Thinking about what my ideal version of the Legion would be and Jacques is definitely a part of it but I don't know which origin story I'd choose. Cause Reboot Lyle is my favorite Lyle and Jacques is an important part of his backstory, but I don't think that backstory works as well for Jacques. And boy did he get the short end of the stick in that one.
His Preboot origin story fits his character much better, plus that way Danielle can be a Legionnaire too (and Danielle is a whole other post tbh), but then Lyle's backstory would need to be rewritten so that it can still work and I can't write. I am keeping the difference in how their invisibility works from the Reboot though.
#legion of super heroes#jacques foccart#invisible kid II#lyle norg#invisible kid#just thinking out loud#secret third option is giving both of them a different backstory...but i don't want to <3#having both invisible kids in the team is easier said than done when you care too much about them lmao

raaaaant time
so, I am very upset over the new Menéndez brothers series that came out. If you’ve seen it, you probably know why. Before I go into this, if you don’t know about this case, the menendez brothers had murdered their mom and dad in 1989 as self defense, fearing of them soon murdering them themselves, after suffering years of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse by their parents hands.
for context I am a long time supporter of these men. I’ve known about this case since I was around 12 (unsupervised internet access, lmao) and I supported them then and I support them now.
This series is fucking disgusting. And not just because of the atrocious, disrespectful, and weirdly comedic relief portrayals of these traumatized men, no no no, it also of course just had to include sexualization and Incestuous fetishization of them. I was SO EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE watching these scenes. I’m sure it’s all supposed to show how their father had fucked up the brothers relationship and how he blurred the lines for them of what’s appropriate and not appropriate to do with your family, but this crosses a god damn line. It’s possible I’m also giving this dumb fuck director too much credit. Idk if it’s just me, but this feels like a writers barely disguised fetish moment. So many scenes felt like the start of a porno, and at times DID BECOME A PORNO!!!!!
I remember so many times of me yelling out loud in shock “WHAT IS THIS SHOW????”
the dialogue is trash, the pacing is trash, the portrayal is trash, etc. The only part I personally think was great was when they recreated the footage of Lyle and Erik walking into court. When I was watching it I felt they really looked and acted like the brothers at that moment. And the fact it’s surrounded by such garbage is sad. It really felt disconnected from the other episodes and scenes because of how much I enjoyed that little moment. And they weren’t even talking or anything.
There’s only like one word I could use to describe a lot of the scenes, especially the sexualization scenes, which is: unnecessary.
Gotta be honest, I really wanted to like this show! Thought it could bring back attention on this case again. Show empathy towards them. But no, I had to watch two actors portraying real life traumatized brothers kiss each other.
I am seriously wondering now if Ryan Murphy wanted two actors with romantic/sexual chemistry casted on purpose for what seems to be some sort of fantasy of his.
I started this show YESTERDAY, I am halfway through episode 7 right now. I wanted to see if it’d get better, and it just never did. But honestly? It’s my fault. What did I fucking expect from a Netflix series that’s directed by the guy who made GLEE? I’m still mad now, but I can’t even describe how even more upset I was yesterday watching it.
I legit could probably go on for days about how disrespectful this show is, and good on Erik for not being afraid to call it and the directors out.
It’s in vain to say this, because obviously they’ll never see it, but: Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan you two are pieces of utter dogshit. What about any of this was a good idea? You guys deserve to be sued for thinking this was okay. You deserve it for making Dahmer, and you deserve it for making this. I don’t even wanna SAY all the horrible things I think about you guys. All i hope is nobody ever hands you two a god damn camera again. Sincerely go fuck yourselves.
I know I’m being a dramatic little bitch again for the 100th time but this is truly horrendous. This isn’t just a story you can add shit to and get creative with, guys, this is their LIVES. These are real human people with dignities and families that care about them. They’ve been disrespected enough, the fact that they were sentenced to life in general just shows how little people empathized with them.
This audacity of this being made. This very serious story of trauma being turned into this weird comedy show.
what is this RPF, Ryan Murphy? ARE YOU BORED??? How about you go make a actual fucking difference? Cause you know what, Erik and Lyle are, and they’re the ones who’re incarcerated!
that’ll be all.
#menendez brothers#erik menendez#lyle menendez#This’ll be the only time I ever talk about true crime fr#I’m mad that they wasted genuine good talent in this#The acting is actually really amazing and I hope the actors do something better than this#Poor lyles actor probably lost his voice after all that hooting and hollering#the menendez brothers

Why are the actors who played lyle and erik menendez so fine a little bit too fine. omg bruh, I wanna talk about a few things about the show. If u don't know who lyle and erik menendez are, they basically killed their parents. They live in a very rich lifestyle and home the dad Jose menendez mol*ested the boys at a very young age to teens he would touch them very inappropriately the mom knew about it and she didn't approach or care and she also was apart of the abuse too, so the brothers killed there parents, honestly the case is so sad and the fact that they'll never be free when there's so much evidence makes it even sadder. #justice for the menendez brothers!!!
Ryan Murphy is so incredibly selfish that he exploited not one but two cases he did that show dahmer, and it caused a lot of backlash for the victims families the fact that Netflix allowed it to happen. He didn't do anything but made money off there trauma and exploited them for money, I watch a few episodes of dahmer and stopped because it made it seem like dahmer was the victim, and it was so trifling to the victims and families.
I'm watching the lyle and erik menendez show, and it's so disrespectful asf to the brothers it spread so many lies and false information. In the end, it made it seem like the parents were victims and the brothers as monsters. Also, wtf is wrong with Ryan Murphy? He made it seem like the brothers had something going on romantically, like really incest? Also made erik gay which he was not by the way and the way he made lyle's character in the show, he made lyle this snobby, typical Rich guy, who's loud, angry, aggressive when in reality he was not.
It's so sad that the brothers and other families are being exploited through their trauma and pain. Fuck Ryan Murphy🖕 but I will say the actors did an amazing job and acted there asses of I will give them that and they put on and amazing performance 👏

Not sure if you do the recoms but if you do can you do a short story with the recoms being softies for thier medic reader?
Avatar Masterlist
Ahhh just imagine that Y/N would walk into the room where the whole recoms team meets. You would walk in with a gentle smile. Humming your favorite song. This would automatically get the attention of the recoms.
Their tails would start wagging sideways in excitement. Of course, they would try to hide how excited they were with your presence. I think Zdog and Lopez wouldn't mind coming up to you and showing you how excited they are by your presence.
It was quaricth's turn to be attended to by you. You would notice how his little ears would flop back as you were checking his vitals. And his pupils would dilate, and he would become more anxious."Everything okay?" you would ask. As you watch as his gaze doesn't leave you. "No…just… Did I tell you how pretty you look today?" quaritch would speak, tucking a piece of your hair behind your ear. "Y-yes…" you speak, blushing.
After tending to them all, you used to spend time with them. Lyle would sit next to you, wrapping his arm around your shoulder. Moving you more on his body, so he could stroke your hair. Leaning in from time to time so he could smell your scent.
This behavior was not only when you were alone with them, but they had begun to make it public. At mealtimes, they would insist that you sit with them. Saving your space, sometimes even your food.
If you met one of them in the corridors of the base, they would smile at you and as you passed them. Their tail would tap you on the back, in a playful way. Or when General Ardmore was talking to you, discussing the new protocol.
You would feel a hand on your upper back. Mask would caress his hand on your back, leaving some massages. You look up, meeting Mask's gaze. He would give you a smile and look forward again. You move closer to him. You felt protected by his side, and that was a good thing. Because General Ardmore was somewhat intimidating.
The other doctors would see this behavior as strange. It was well known that the recoms were not very friendly with the team of doctors and scientists. But only with you, they would turn from lions to adorable kittens around you.
They would literally ask you to be the only person to attend to them. Becoming playful around you, smiling out loud. This would leave the other doctors with their mouths agape, as they stood still in a corner somewhere. If any of them tried to say anything, they knew it would go badly.

Title: Come Alive (part two) Pairing: Jackson Wang x f reader Summary: Having not heard from Jackson since he pretended to be your boyfriend to ward off unwanted attention, you try to push him out of your mind, that is until you run into him when you least expect it. Genre: Fake dating au / strangers to lovers au / heartbreak / angst / fluff / smut Rating: 15 (Nsfw-smut in future chapters) Warnings: some brief mild "friendly" threatening behaviour / foul language W/C: 2.2k Banner: @nixiecreates creating pure perfection. Beta: @seokgyuu thank you so much for you kind and encouraging words Tag list: @foofarny @kzokssb @galadrielthepsycho @sumzysworld @vminjackbaddie Notes: just a short chapter as I'm easing into the story that will unfold. I'm so excited. Please like, comment, reblog as it really helps!
"Can I get a medium latte and a slice of the lemon sponge, please?” You ask the barista, at the coffee shop around the corner from your apartment.
“Uh, sure, to have in or takeaway?” He responds with a bright smile, seeming slightly over the top.
“Have in, please.”
He nods enthusiastically, “coming right up, tap when you're ready.” He points to the contactless card machine and rushes off to make your drink. “Swap with me.” He whispers to the other worker at the coffee machine, practically shoving him out of the way. Frowning, bewildered by his behaviour you shrug it off and make your payment before heading to the other end of the counter to wait for your order.
Taking a quick glance at the seating, you are pleased to see there are a few tables you can choose from, much to your relief. You need to get some work done and with your upstairs neighbours having renovations in their apartment, the noise there is almost impossible. So you came to your sanctuary, your favourite coffee shop with not only the best coffee, but most importantly, the best cakes.
“Here you are.” The barista says with that same wide, slightly manic looking grin, as he hands you the tray. “Call me, anytime.” He whispers, but still loud enough for the people in the queue to hear, resulting in their quiet sniggers. You glance down at your order and see the scrawl of some numbers on your napkin and your face heats, only made worse by the fact you can feel so many eyes on you. Smiling awkwardly, you blurt out, “Sorry, I have a boyfriend,” before taking the tray and making a quick escape to your table by the window.
Once seated you spin the cup to take a proper look at it.
The name ‘Lyle’ stares at you in bold, messy italics. Groaning to yourself, you turn the cup back back around and set your bag on the seat next to you, pulling out your laptop and hoping that the eyes you could still feel on you were only your imagination.
You most definitely did not want to call him. Especially since you still haven't forgotten about Jackson. It has been a month since you met him at the club and you've had no text or call from him whatsoever and yet, he has crossed your mind more regularly than you would care to admit.
You shrug the thought away as you load up your work and dig into your cake, relishing the sharp lemon flavour of the sponge combined perfectly with the sweetness of the drizzled icing on top.
“Does this boyfriend have a name?” a voice beside your table startles you, your fork freezing in mid air while your mind races to come up with an answer for the persistent barista.
Glancing up at him, determined to continue your lie, you start, “l-” but stop when you see a familiar face smiling down at you. “Jackson?” you drop your fork and stand up to greet him. He wraps an arm around your shoulders and kisses you lightly on the cheek, lingering a little too long for just a casual greeting. “It’s great to see you, y/n.”
You can’t help smiling up at him, your bodies almost pressed against each other and radiating intense heat between the tiny gap.
“y/n?” Another voice sounds and a smiling face appears from behind him.
“Do I know you?” you wonder.
“No, no, sorry, I’m Mark, Jackson’s friend, but boy, have I heard a lot about you.” he grins.
Arching a brow you peer up at Jackson and note the faint flush of pink dusting across his cheeks and have to fight the amusement that tugs at your mouth. “Good things, I hope?”
“Oh, yes, very,” is all Mark responds, snapping his mouth shut when Jackson throws him a deathly glare. Biting your lip in an attempt to keep your excitement and amusement at bay and watch as Jackson turns your coffee cup towards him, looking at the numbers written there, “so, is this boyfriend real or did you need a fake one again?”
The smirk that plays on his lips has your heart pounding against your ribcage, creating a tune just to serenade him with.
“I guess I could have really used your assistance again.”
He laughs and then his eyes fall serious, seeming unsure of what he wanted to say.
“So still no boyfriend, huh?” Mark interrupts the silence, as he stares very obviously at Jackson.
You shrug, “nope, I seem to have this problem…” tapping your chin thoughtfully, “where guys don't call me.”
Jackson groans and dips his head into his hands, “I know, I know, I was going to call, but then…” he hesitates, searching for the right words.
“He was being a little bitch about his ex,” Mark interrupts, “but, he's over that now, aren't you?” he scolds and you have to fight the urge to laugh.
“Yes, definitely.” Jackson responds staring intently at you, eyes burning through you and starting a surprisingly intense heat inside you. “I'm sorry, I should have at least sent a text.”
“Hey, if you're not ready, you're not ready, can't help meeting at shitty timing.” you smile graciously, trying to hide your disappointment and hoping you're succeeding.
“I'm ready, now,” he insists, stepping closer to you. “If I haven't blown my chance?”
Your heart hammers so loud in your chest, you can barely hear his words, but the resounding scream inside your head tells you what you've decided. “Why don't you message me and find out?”
He beams at you and nods, “yes, for sure.”
Your cheeks warm slightly and you have to break eye contact, if you want your brain to ever work normally again. Getting lost in his eyes is dangerously easy.
“Miss, are these guys bothering you?” A voice sounds next to you and your eyes drift slowly over following the sound. Who should it be? None other than Lyle, the barista. Thinking he's being a knight in shining armour, when in reality he's disturbing a moment you have hoped for since the night you met Jackson.
You bite your lip, as the awkwardness only continues to grow as you watch Lyle sneer at the two of them, it would almost be laughable if you weren't so disappointed by the interruption.
Jackson glances slyly at you, a devilish smirk playing across his mouth and as if you can read his mind, you give him a sly wink.
Jackson steps towards him, glancing at the barista's badge, “Lyle, is it?”
He nods in response, suddenly seeming unsure of himself for butting in.
“I really appreciate the concern for my girlfriend, thank you for checking in on her and her well-being,” Jackson's hand lands on Lyle's shoulder, meant as a friendly gesture but you can tell it's also a warning by the firm grips he holds. He picks up your coffee cup and turns it towards Lyle, “and as you can gather, she won't be calling you. No hard feelings, right?”
Lyle shakes his head quickly, cheeks slightly pink and spins on his heels, making his way back behind the counter.
“Thank you.” You fight back a laugh. “you come to my rescue once again.”
“Always happy to be your fake boyfriend.” he beams at you.
“Or,” Mark chimes in again, “you could just date each other, then you could be her real boyfriend.” He mimes bashing your head's together which would have made you laugh ordinarily but you're hyper focused on Jackson's reaction to that.
He fixes Mark with a hard stare before turning back to you. “I'm sorry, I'm really out of practice with dating.” He rubs the back of his neck awkwardly. “I'll call you later today and we can arrange a date? I mean, if you'd like to, that is? I don't mean to assume.” His face flushes pink and you can't help but bite your lip from the sight.
“I would love to, but,” you pause just to torture him a little more, “why don't you give me your number this time, in case you chicken out again.”
He gives you a bashful grin before pulling out his phone, typing away and then returning it to his pocket. “Done.”
You feel your cell vibrate in the back pocket of your jeans. “Ok, then.”
Both smiling at eachother like idiots, you're interrupted by Mark once again, “ok, lovebirds, we better get going so we're not late for the game.”
“Game?” You wonder.
“Basketball, a group of us play every week.” Jackson glances down at his watch. “Shit, you're right.” He takes a step towards you, “sorry, I've got to go but I promise I'll call you tonight.”
You nod, excitement blooming like roses in your stomach but a small whisper in the back of your mind does not want to get your hopes up again.
His fingers gently clasp your hand, and pull it up to his mouth, he presses his lips to the back of your knuckles, an action that almost has you swooning but you manage to stay upright.
“Really great to meet you!” Mark calls, as he heads towards the exit, drawing people's eyes in your direction.
Jackson backs away without another word, glancing back at you until he's out the door and out of sight.
You sit down, feeling dazed, your hand feels cold where his lips touched your skin, burning them with the memory of the tender kiss. Opening up your laptop and attempting to focus on today's tasks proves difficult when all you can think about is the hopeful impending conversation you would have with him later.
Pulling out your phone, remembering that he'd messaged you, so you could save his number and you see the text. Your mouth stretches in Cheshire grin before you can stop it seeing his message:
Unknown: can't wait to speak later
Just that simple sentence had you giddy and feeling like a love sick idiot. You also couldn't wait till later.
*
Signing out at 5pm on the dot, you pack away your work things now you are back home. The renovations were still ongoing, the noise reverberating through your apartment like wildfire, making plans in your head to go out for dinner, until your phone rings, halting all other thoughts.
You see Jackson's name on your screen, scrambling to answer it and taking a deep breath to quell the excitement before you speak.
“Well, this is a nice surprise.” you start, sounding a lot cooler than you feel.
His deep laughter vibrates your ear, sending delicious shivers down your spine. “There's no chickens here today, ma’am.”
You can't help but laugh at his reference to your earlier comment. “I can see that. Nice to hear from you. How was the game?”
Settling on your sofa, pulling you legs up to get cosy, you listen in.
“Yea, good, my team won, of course.”
How can his voice sound even more devastating over the phone? Every word drips with velvet.
“There's nothing wrong with your ego, is there?” you tease.
“Not when it comes to things I know I'm good at.”
“And I bet you're good at many things.” the words leave your mouth before you can stop them, hanging in the air thick and heavy, until he speaks.
“I guess you'll just have to stick around and find out.”
You hold in the squeal that's bursting to escape, as more loud bangs and drilling sound around you.
“What on earth is that sound?” He asks.
Letting out a frustrated sigh you explain about your neighbours and your plans to stay out this evening, hoping when you return the noise would have dissipated somewhat.
“If you're free tonight, why don't we have dinner?” He asks, sounding nervous for the first time today.
Biting your lip and grinning you nod frantically, “oh sorry,” you laugh, realising he can't see you, “I was nodding. I would love that.”
“Ok, great, I'll pick you up in half an hour?”
“Perfect.” Holy fuck, you need to get ready fast.
You text him your address and raid your wardrobe, opting for a black dress with flat shoes, something simple but classic so you would fit whatever type of restaurant you go to. Your hair is beyond saving, so you pull it up in a rough bun, which for once turns out great. You neaten the very minimal makeup you have on when your doorbell goes. Your heart hammers wildly in your chest, galloping like a horse that carries you to your front door. Pulling it open, your mind goes blank seeing him standing there all in black. A fitted black t-shirt, with black trousers and shoes, he looked devastating in such a simple ensemble.
“You look…” swallowing and trying to appear calm, “amazing.”
His answering smile almost floors you. “I was thinking the same thing, you look beautiful. And we match.”
Looking down at your outfit you can't help but laugh at the coincidence.
“Are you ready to go?” He asks.
Nodding, you grab your bag and keys and lock up. His fingers entwine through yours and he searches your eyes for permission, smiling as you give his hand a reassuring squeeze. It feels nice, the simple action of your hands clasped together, natural and comfortable. Your usual first date nerves have evaporated, maybe it's because you've spent time with him already, maybe it's because you know what it's like to kiss him, or maybe he's just a good match for you. Only time will tell.

Top Shelf pt. 5
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 6, Part 7
Masterlist
Summary: being the kid of a well-known book store owner was easy, so was running into famous people. But being book smart doesn’t make everyone people smart.
A/N: the location set for where they eat isn’t a place in New York I think but it is where I’m from so I’m using it🥲
You guys would be astonished if you knew who the characters I created represented
I had a hard time writing for the character I put in here because I’m still not sure how to write people like her🥲
Warning: my writing, language,
Jenna Ortega x fem!reader
“I changed my mind,” Lyle says suddenly as you dry your hair off glancing toward him. Hair dye setting in hair that is now dyed half pink and half black as he smiles down at his phone.
The boy had an unhealthy obsession with dying his hair lately and you had to be the one to dye it.
“About what?” You ask tightening the towel around your body as you walk out of the bathroom and toward you closet. “This is my favorite.”
He holds up a picture of you and Jenna walking down the street from the last few days making you roll your eyes.
The two of you had hung out a quite a few times after the first time and you were starting to get used to the both her and the paparazzi’s presence in your life.
You were actually enjoying it. The scandal online of people thinking the two of you are dating with how much you two are together, not to mention the Instagram follow.
The photos that were taken of you both were decent.
It’s funny really. The pictures, the edits, being stopped suddenly in the street so Jenna could take a picture with a fan or sign something. You were enjoying seeing her interact with them and how different she acted with you.
The only downsides were the amount of threats and questions you were getting on Instagram. It got to the point where you had to turn off you messages.
Another being that when they took pictures of you it was always you looking at Jenna some type of way and it irked your nerves at how obvious your love struck state was.
“You just said that about the last one you saw.” You reply as you pull an outfit off the hangers.
“Yeah but this one is the one.” He says, rolling onto his back on your bed. “You two look so cute in it, plus your making lovey dovey eyes at her, as usual.”
You huff out before letting the towel drop and start to get dressed. “What’s you guys relationship, anyway?” He asks without looking up knowing you were changing.
What was it really? Truth be told, you didn’t know yourself.
“We’re friends, what else?” You say pulling your shirt over your head. He lets out a loud groan, plopping his phone down before rolling around on your bed.
“You cannot be serious right now.” He says now laying on his stomach and looking up at you.
You let out a huff pulling your pants up. You were just friends, friends who text and go out a lot. He was just jealous your time was being taken away from him surely.
You’d have to admit, spending time with Jenna was way better than spending time with Lyle. Not that you didn’t enjoy Lyle’s company it was just that Jenna gave you other feelings than Lyle ever could.
While Lyle made you feel disgust, happiness and frustration Jenna made you feel nervous, excitement and attraction.
The feelings were definitely different.
“You cannot be serious right now.” You repeat his words in a high pitch mocking tone before tossing your towel in the basket and making your way toward your desk.
“At what point will you take me seriously?” He asks as Achilles jumps on his back before settling into his new found seat.
“At what point will you be serious?” You ask. “Right now.” He replies, tossing his phone on the bed and looking toward you.
“You two are literally so cute together but very oblivious.” He says making you press your lips together and roll your eyes.
“I’m so serious, like,” he says sitting up and Achilles falls off before being picked up and put into his lap.
“I’ve seen the videos and pictures, one looking away while the others stares or the way you smile at each other.” He rambles as you let out a sigh.
It was true that you couldn’t deny your feelings for Jenna, Lyle knew that. The way she makes your heart beat faster at her unrelenting stare, the way her laugh makes you want to smile.
But you couldn’t assume her feelings for you, of course she wouldn’t have any other than friend ship.
“Just because you see something doesn’t make it real.” You reply, interrupting his list making him roll his eyes.
“I know what I see and I can see the attraction coming from both of you and onto the other.” He says menacingly stroking Achilles who purrs out closing his eyes.
“I never said I wasn’t attracted to her,” you argue shaking your head and he raises an eyebrow. “I just think she doesn’t feel the same thing.”
The man lets out a hum of slight disapproval. “Obliviousness is truly a torture.” He says clicking his tongue and shaking his head.
“You have to show your attraction, not that you already have with those looks but you also have to say and show it.” He finishes and you knit your eye brows together.
Did he straight up want you to confess without knowing if she returned the feeling?
“How exactly?” You raise an eyebrow at him and lean back into your desk chair.
“Allow me to demonstrate.” Oh god.
The man stands and grabs your arms to pull you onto the bed to sit next to him. He sits closer to you and makes sure to get into your personal space. “This is weird.” You mumble scooting away from him slightly.
He only responds by scooting closer to you and looking into your eyes. You look around for a moment, unsure of what he was doing.
He continues to stare and you continue to look away, avoiding his eyes. “There,”
“What?” You ask, now confused with the man who was supposedly trying to help you.
“You have this issue of not being able to hold eye contact, it’s a form of attraction through body language.” He says, smirking down at you as you roll your eyes.
“It makes you seem sexy and mysterious.” He wiggles his eyebrows at you before leaning in with a kissy face and you stop immediately with your palm. “You’re not sexy nor mysterious at all.”
“Yeah, but I try.” He shrugs leaning back slightly. “But it really should work if someone finds any attraction toward you.”
“Okay, cupid,” you snort before scooting away from him once again. “Only problem is is that I’m not attracted to you.” You finish as the boy scoots closer to you.
He once again ignores you as he yanks your legs to face him. “Pay attention, demonstration number two.”
He puts his legs in the same position as yours, along with his posture.
“What is this?” You ask, once again confused as the man copies your movements. “It’s a big sign mostly, copying the movement of the person you like or mirroring the position. you used to do it a lot in high school when you dated that senior chick.” He replies and you send him a glare.
“I did not date her.” You reply, crossing your legs. “Yeah,” he says copying your movements. “But you had sex with her it’s the same thing.”
“You and I have very different perspectives on dating— stop that!” You raise your voice slightly as the man uncrosses his legs along with yours.
“Demonstration number three!” He claps before leaning his shoulder toward yours, body very close to yours as you try to lean away from him.
“Let me guess,” you huff out pushing his shoulders away from your own.
The man never had any form of personal space, even in your early years or when you first met. He was always in someone’s bubble.
“They lean toward you while your talking to them, focusing only on you.” You say as the man leans closer with a cheeky smile.
“Ding ding ding.” The mimicked sound of a bell makes you roll your eyes. “And tonight I will be on the look out for those signs.” He says smiling to himself in thought.
“Speaking of,” you say standing up and grabbing a towel from a pile. “Let’s get your hair done so we can get ready to go.”
“Insta story!” He grabs his phone before rushing past you and into the bathroom. You shake your head and let out a quiet chuckle at his obsession with pictures.
You all had that obsession though. Posting pictures and moments you like to have for later and to look at when you got older or grew apart. Not that he’d ever allow that to happened.
But it got to the point where you were scared of the pictures he had, you knew he had bad ones but you didn’t know how many. The scary part was that he had the power to post it whenever he wanted.
He should be afraid of the ones you had too.
“Hurry, I need to get a good angle before you wash it all out.” He rushes as he holds in the camera to the mirror as you grab gloves and begin putting them on ignoring the clicking sounds.
“Don’t worry, I’ll only post the good ones of you so your boo doesn’t see your bad angle.” He says while scrolling through the pictures making you roll your eyes.
“She’s not my boo.” You mumble and he snorts. “Whatever you say.”
————
“Remember,” the man walking next to you says after pulling your head phones off. “Look for my three attraction signs.”
You huff out and nod while scooting closer toward him as more people entered the train.
“And if she doesn’t show any signs?” You ask, chest against his as someone bumps into you. You both send a subtle glare before looking back toward each other.
“Then you show them,” he smirks down at you, hair tied up in a half up half down style but still having some strands cover his face. “I’m sure she’s not as dense as you are.”
You now send him the glare as you glance down at your phone before smiling at the sight of Jenna’s double text before texting back.
Jenna -
We’re on the way now:)
My friend can’t wait to meet you!
You -
Lyle is just as enthusiastic about meeting you
We’re on the train about be there
Jenna -
Cant wait to meet him
“‘Love struck’ is definitely the word to describe you.” Lyle states and your smile falls looking up at him.
“Don’t hide it now, I’ve already seen you smiling at your phone like she’s there for real.” He rolls his eyes before checking his own phone.
“Whose her friend anyway?” He asks and you shrug. “She won’t say, says it’s a surprise.”
“Great, yet another sexy and mysterious individual in our lives.” He shakes his head and you hit his chest with the back of your hand.
The train comes to a slow stop before the doors open allowing you both to make your way out and toward the exit.
It’s a struggle though as you move past the many people in the train station trying to find a way out without pushing.
“Jeez, the tourist this time of year are always so annoying.” The man mumbles, grabbing your hand. He was right, people wanting to spend Christmas in New York was a hassle but it was worse after Christmas was over.
“Watch it!” A man calls pushing past your shoulder. “Sorry..” You mumble getting closer to Lyle as the man glares down at you before moving through the crowd once more.
“Asshole.” Lyle mumbles, wrapping his arm through yours to keep you close as you both finally make it out of the crowded staircase.
“Come on, before we’re late meeting your boo and her friend.” The man pulls you through the street as you groan.
“She’s not my boo! Stop saying that it’s so weird.” You say as he drags you through the crowd. “But you want her to be.” He calls out in a sing song voice that makes you gag.
He slows down after a moment, deep in thought as you stare up at him.
Another moment goes by before he lets out a hum.
“You never really confirmed it,” he says glancing down toward you. “If you actually want her or not. Yeah, you said you were attracted to her but not if you actually liked her.”
The statement causes your entire face to heat up as you look away from the boy.
You never really thought about it, mostly thinking about how stunning she looked or when she would text and ask to hang out next. Never once did you think about if you could actually be in a real relationship with her.
“In a sense..” you mumble scratching the back of your head. He raises his eyebrow at you and waits patiently for you to finish.
You both take notice to people glancing in your direction, whispers suddenly surround you. Something you were still getting used to.
“I mean, I do like her.” You start your ramble and the boy smiles. “She’s amazing, perfect even. Her personality is even better than it is on TV, she’s funny, way more considerate of where I want to go with her, she talks just enough to where I can also talk, she’s absolutely gorgeous,” you continue your list and Lyle nods, smile growing as you speak.
He had never seen you so passionate about something other than the music you listen too or something you’ve hyper fixated on. So listening to you speak of something — or rather someone — else was definitely a sight for him to see.
He knew the brunette had you wrapped around her finger just by your long list, even if you didn’t know it yourself.
“And did I mention she has a great sense of style?” You suddenly come to a stop of your rambling. “I’ve seen it plenty to know.” He laughs and you groan out.
“Okay, so why don’t you make a move exactly?“ he asks and your smile falls.
“Why would she say yes to me?” You ask lowly as the boys smile falls to.
She had many other options with people who could treat her to a life of luxury or even just treat her better. So why would she pick the weird library kid who stays inside playing video games all day?
“You’re all those things too, minus to the style of course.” Lyle tries to comfort you only for you to elbow him in his gut.
“I’m being serious,” he laughs grabbing your arm and pushing it away lightly. “You’re just as amazing as anyone else. You don’t give yourself enough credit.” He finishes with a small smile.
You nod slowly before looking back forward and grabbing for his hand.
“Don’t be gross now.” You mumble and the boy chuckles to himself.
You both continue to walk through down the street before arriving at the location sent to you by Jenna making Lyle let out a loud gasp.
“Sushi?” He asks, arms spread out as he gestures to the red sign ‘Kenko’s habachi’ as if he was trying to hug it. “How’d she know?! What’d you tell her?” He questions are more of demands as he turns to you.
“Nothing, as I said.” You say, stuffing your hands in your pockets. “She has taste.”
A grimace is set on his face at your comment. “Please don’t tell me your referring to yourself.” Your face falls and you point to it, clearly annoyed at his comment after your last conversation.
“Kidding,” he says turning back toward the building like a child in a toy factory. “So how does this work? Do we go inside and wait?”
“We just wait, I usually do.” You say, taking a seat on a nearby bench as the man continues to stare up.
“What a good dog.” He replies only giving you a glance. “But what about seats?” He asks mc ignoring your loud huff.
“Usually taken care of.” You say before slipping your head phones back on and turning up the sound to drown out what ever he says.
You close your eyes and begin to think of the various ways this night could go. Lyle embarrassing you to death, the so called signs he wants you to use and look for, Jenna’s friend, how Jenna looks. Anything to pass the time before you come to a realization.
How long was she staying in New York?
She had been here for about a month and half now, at least since you’ve known her. She was bound to leave for LA again to be with her family and home again.
The thought made you feel some sort of dread. The relationship you both built could go crumbling down once she left and you couldn’t do anything about while all the way across the United States.
Then again what could you do? Ask her not to return to her home and stay with you? Not possible. You weren’t in any position to ask such a question but that wouldn’t stop you from begging if you had a choice to.
Who wouldn’t want to be on the knees in front of such a woman after all?
You’re pulled from your thoughts as your head phones are yanked off. Your eyes snap open to see Lyle glaring down toward, Jenna trying to hold in her laugh and a girl who’d you recognized after watching Jenna’s most recent show.
You didn’t know her name but you knew not to call her by the name you knew her by, that would end horrible on your end by Lyle.
“Hey,” Jenna says as you stand up and snatch your head phones back from Lyle. “Hey.” You reply and Lyle makes a face.
“‘Hey’? That’s it?” He whispers to himself as if he were expecting more and you send him a glare.
“We’ve gotta stop meeting like this.” Jenna says gesturing to your head phones as you put them back in their case.
“Are you suggesting that I have a head phone problem?” You ask, smirk in your face as you shove the container into your pocket.
She considers the question for a moment before nodding. “Maybe a little?” She says and your face falls as it does whenever Lyle tries to say something funny.
“I’m only saying you have them in all the time right before I see you.” She defends putting her hands up.
“What else am I meant to do? Just sit there or walk? No, I gotta have some sort of background noise that’s not yelling or cars honking.” You huff out and shake your head.
Jenna’s smile grows as she looks up at you.
You glance to Lyle who puts up a single finger mouthing ‘number one’ making you internally roll your eyes.
Your eyes travel back to Jenna who continues to smile and stare and you can’t help but agree with. The eye contact was insanely attractive when it came to her as you try your hardest not to look away from hers.
You both continue to stare unbeknownst to the pair beside you. It was starting to become unbearable for the two, is this all what you two did?
Sure, it was only a few moments that and passed but it was still awkward.
Lyles eyes travel to the girl Jenna brought as he presses his lips with a suggestive look on his face that makes the girl smile and nod in agreement to his silent statement.
“Well then!” Lyle calls out clapping his hands together. “Re-introductory time,” he smiles and holds out his hand to Jenna.
“Great to meet you again on less awkward time, I’m Lyle.” He says as she takes his hand and shakes it. “Nice to meet you, i’ve heard a lot about you.” She says and Lyle smirks.
“As have I about you.” Your cheeks rise in heat as you clear your throat and look away from the two.
“Oh! And this is Emma.” Jenna introduces and the girl steps forward with a adorable smile you can’t help but notice.
“Hi, I’ve also heard a lot about you.” She laughs as she shakes your hand. Jenna’s cheeks also get warm as she she sends a small kick to her friends foot you don’t seem to notice.
“It’s nice to meet you, Emma.” You say before Lyle begins rushing the three of you.
“Sushi time, let’s go. Let’s go!” The man states as you all make your way inside.
“I’m beginning to see what you meant by him being a bit much.” Jenna says watching Lyle make his way toward the fish tank like a child.
You huff out before going after him. “Dude,” you mumble as you watch him watch the fish. “You’ll get to eat some in a bit, stop slobbering on the glass.”
“You two really are bad at reading signs.” He replies, head turning side ways but eyes never leaving the tank. “You’re trying too hard to act natural, just relax.”
You scoff before pulling him back toward the duo only to see Emma whispering something to Jenna whose face had only become more red.
The waitress grabs four menus and makes her way toward the back of the restaurant.
“I love your hair, by the way.” Emma says, falling back to walk with Lyle who gives her a toothy smile. “Why thank you, I just got it done.” He says as if he had paid to get it done, you should have made him pay.
You watch as the waitress places the menus down in a booth before making your way to one side and taking a seat. Jenna not too far behind you as she subconsciously decides to sit with you.
Lyle looks back at Emma with the same suggestive look on his face as he allows her to enter first before following after.
He takes notice to how close you both sit and allows a small smirk to set into his face before opening his menu and slamming it shut immediately.
You send him a questioning look as you opening your own. You places his hand on the table and drums two fingers on the table, looking around trying to be discreet.
You let out a quiet huff before looking back down to your menu, unable to resist the urge to look through your peripheral view to see he was in fact right.
Jenna seemed to be doing what Lyle was doing earlier. Your legs were slightly tilted toward hers and so were hers, hands holding the menu as you did.
But then again she was very focused on said menu, not enough to be able to copy anything you were doing. You were glad he was sort of wrong but also disappointed.
“You’d definitely like the shrimp tempura, it’s actually cooked but also really good for sushi.” Lyle states as he points to Emma’s menu, elbows on the table as he leans over to look over her menu. You watch Emma’s eyebrows raise as he continues to recommend different things, clearly listening carefully as she nods along.
A small smile forms on your face, his lack of personal space was indeed always there. Even for strangers. But then again that was his specialty, finding friends by just simply being himself rather than acting awkward.
But then there was his humor that threw most people off, very dark. You were used to it though, him mentioning things that would put him in an insane asylum before laughing to himself making the people who get it laugh as well.
“What are you getting?” Jenna’s voice breaks you out of your thoughts as your eyes snap from Lyle and Emma to Jenna who seemed to be sitting much closer than before.
You lean over to look at her menu forgetting about your own in your hand as you point to the thing you get the most.
She scrunches her nose — the action absolutely adorable — slightly as she read the description, clearly displeased with you answer. “Really?”
You shrug before closing your own menu and sliding it forward. “It’s what I’ve eaten for the past few times, i think it’s good.” You lean against your hand on the table, body turned to her more.
She nods to herself for a moment before looking back down to her menu, once again you find yourself jealous of a menu.
Lyle takes notice to your longing stares and Jenna obliviousness take scowls in distaste at the sight.
With how much you talked about her he would think you would be flirting at this point with how much you’ve hung out. But no, you clearly are too much of an idiot not to see both you and Jenna’s body language toward each other.
“But what is the best platter?” Emma asks suddenly and your attention is suddenly drawn toward her as you lean over the table to talk.
He gapes at you for a moment, wondering why you would take your attention off your ‘date’ to recommended things to his before he got the chance.
You had a goddess next to you and you decided to talk about platters? He decides then and there it was time to take matters into his own hands.
His eyes travel to Jenna who no longer looks at her menu, instead toward you and Emma with a look in her eyes Lyle knows inside and out.
He stares at her and waits for a moment, clearly intent on getting her to look back at him and she does.
He narrows his eyes her before tilting his head which makes her in return knit her eye brows. He glances toward you then back to her before raising an eyebrow.
Jenna too glances at you before biting her lip nervously before looking back to him. He widens eyes while keeping his eyebrow raised and tilting his head to the side to gesture toward you.
Jenna hesitates for a moment, looking between Lyle and you before nodding along with Lyle who lets out a silent breath.
At least someone took his hints.
She sends him one last glance as you sit back into your seat, all four of you now waiting on the waitress, Lyle and Emma taking up a new conversation topic.
“I meant to tell you before,” Jenna says suddenly catching both you and Lyles attention. “Your outfit looks really nice.” The compliment is subtle yet noticeable.
You look down to look at your outfit you had actually tried on. Ever since you met Jenna you had actually been trying on looking good instead of wearing simple jeans and a sweat shirt. Not that you’d ever tell her that.
“Thank you, my mom actually bought this for me.” You say and Lyle froze before his eyes travel to you in horror.
Who responds to a compliment like that?
“Well, she knows what colors look good on you.” Retorts, saving her own compliment. It works as your face heats up and you smile before chuckling nervously as the waitress walks up you table.
Lyle felt his eye twitch as you order, the sudden urge to strangely you was set into his mind as his finger start to flex.
The audacity of you not complimenting her back was an atrocity.
His eyes travel to Jenna who seemed well satisfied with her compliment and your reaction, far more confident than before. It did not satisfy Lyle.
As the waiter walks away, Lyle felt the need to punish you for your crimes. He quickly kicks his foot out attempting to kick you but instantly regrets it.
“Ow!” Jenna calls out and his eyes go wide. “What’s wrong?” You ask as soon as the word leaves Jenna’s lips.
“Did you just kick me?” Jenna asks, looking up to Lyle whose face sets into panic before looking to you. The worried look on your features evident as you place a hand on Jenna’s arm. He decides this was a far better punishment.
“Yeah,” he nods and looks to you. “Did you just kick her?” The attitude in his accusation bewilders you as your mouth hangs open.
“What?” You ask, glaring at the boy who glares back. “Why would you kick her?” He asks, gesturing his hands toward you and you let out a laugh.
“That’s funny,” you say shaking your head at the boy who crosses his arms. “I’m sitting right next to her how would that be possibly?” You ask and the man shrugs in exaggeration.
“I don’t know, you tell me!” He says and you huff out. Jenna, the pain now forgotten, finds the petty argument amusing as Emma just sits there sipping her drink enjoying the drama completely oblivious to what’s going on.
————
Lyle watches as the two of you speak while walking ahead, well more so Jenna talks and you stare shamelessly. You two walk closely, closer than the distance He and Emma walked together or just regular friends. Further proving his third demonstration to be correct.
His eyes travel to the paparazzi who also shamelessly stared and took pictures then back to you.
You two were to busy in your own little world to really notice. Now he sees why there were so many pictures, you two were just out there rather than hiding away in the safety of privacy.
The privacy you used to enjoy before Jenna, the privacy you needed for your family but just didn’t care anymore.
“Those two are so annoying,” he mumbles, catching Emma’s attention. “I mean, they’re clearly interesting in each other but Y/N doesn’t want to admit it!”
Emma’s eyes light up at his statement. “Exactly, thank you!” Emma says and the man’s eyes snap to hers. “All she talks about is Y/N.” Emma comes back to a sudden quietness the two had and his interest is now piqued.
“Go on,” he says, nudging her with his elbow and raising his eyebrows.
“I mean, she doesn’t only talk about Y/N but whenever she gets tracked up in her phone it always ‘Y/N texted’ or ‘I’m texting Y/N, hold on’. It’s ridiculous but what’s really annoying is when we try to get her to ask her out and she says that that’s a stupid thing to do and doesn’t think she likes her back or something.”
Lyle’s head snaps to her, eyes wide. “She thinks that?” He asks making them slow down so you two didn’t hear their conversation.
Emma hesitates for a moment, clearly debating if Jenna would like this or not but ultimately decides to nod.
“But why?” He asks and the girl tilts her head slightly in question. “I can understand Y/N because of many different reasons but Jenna? She can have castle full of people to choose from and they’d all want her.”
“Maybe that’s why,” Emma says. “Because of how many people she could possibly have, she doesn’t think that any want her for her.”
Lyle takes a moment to think that through and she was in fact right.
She met you by chance and you didn’t know who she was which most likely made the situation feel real. She could tell you about herself without you knowing information from online — true or not true— and you could tell her about yourself without lying to make her more interested in you.
It was all authentic and she could play it out her own way, especially with you already barely knowing her.
“You’re right,” he mumbles in response as he watches Jenna laugh and you smile at her. The smile was one he didn’t recognize, it was far warmer and soft than what he was used to.
Yes, she truly did have you wrapped around her finger.
“We should totally help each other out,” he says suddenly making the girls smile raise. “I could give you little pointers of what Y/N says and you give me one’s Jenna says, you know to keep things up to date for them.”
Emma’s eyes travel to the two of you as you both talk, still ignoring the paparazzi who try to get the best shots in strange positions.
“Plus, I do like to give Y/N little heart attacks so having information on Jenna would help with that.”
The girls smiles once again, clearly interesting on doing the same to Jenna as she pulls her phone out.
————
Lyle once again watches as you hug Jenna before she waves and gets into her car in absolute disgust and disappointment at how short a time you held her. You could have let it linger for a moment, he wouldn’t have minded waiting another moment.
She gets into the tented window car, Emma following suit as she taps her phone to Lyle who nods and throws her a thumbs up.
Her smirk doesn’t go unnoticed by Lyle as you shut the door behind and watch the cat drive off.
Once it’s completely out of view, he hits the back of your head with the back of his hand. And he does so very hard.
“Ow! What the hell!” You hiss out as your hand comes up to hold it. “I’m starting to see why you’re so worried,” he states angrily before turning on his heels and walking.
“You’re absolutely useless to my game of entertainment. You could have at least done a little bit of flirting.”
He continues to walk, now blocking out your yelling and argument as he sets in his plan to do something about this himself since you can’t do a single thing on your own anymore.

Platonic Yandere Recoms X Navi Child Reader Part 2
~A/N: Sorry that this has taken so damn long! It was mostly done and I was stuck, but motivation hit me like a brick recently. So, I hope you enjoy the long awaited part 2! Unedited for now
Masterlist , Part 1
CW: character death (somewhat detailed), discussion of death
~
-During their few undisturbed months with you, the recom team had gotten into a routine with the daily activities all of you did.
-The day started with you and Z getting up, showering and getting dressed together, though they still weren’t able to get you into socks or shoes, followed by having breakfast with everyone. Then you all did group language lessons until lunchtime.
-After lunch, whoever was holding you at the time held you while you took an afternoon nap. Then you played around with them until dinner. And between dinner and bedtime, everyone wound down, with you cuddling into one of them.
-And you were content with that routine, especially on the days where they took you outside, though they made sure to keep a very close eye on you while you were outside.
-They knew that they were technically behind schedule for their mission, but they couldn’t bring themselves to care as they had a new personal mission, that being raising and taking care of you.
-Though they wouldn’t stay undisturbed for long.
…
-It had been a normal day in their base with you, before the door opened and a surprise guest entered the building.
-Everyone in the room flinched, especially you, and whipped their heads in the direction of the door to see who was coming into their base.
All of their ears collectively went down when they saw their boss, General Ardmoire, come in looking like she meant business. She had her hands locked behind her back, back straight, and her head up with all of the authority she had dripping off of her. They had all stood up, with Mansk pushing you to stand behind his legs. And you clung to one of his legs while peaking around at the human woman who had them all on alert. Everyone had lined up in front of her, somewhat covering you from view, but she was still staring you down with precision. She addressed Quaritch to ask what the hell they’ve been doing, and why they have a native child with them. Mansk covered your ears while they went through the rundown of how they had taken you in, and how they’ve been taking care of you since then. You were just looking up at Mansk with wide, clueless eyes, wondering why he didn’t want you to hear what was being said.
General Ardmoire just said that having and basically raising a child ripped from their culture was not going to help contribute to their mission. All of the adults around you were immediately pissed off and in disagreement with that idea. All of the recoms made eye contact and were immediately in agreement with what they needed to do to keep you.
Mansk just picked you up and took you to another room while the rest of the team was left with the general. You just kept looking up at him with innocent confusion while being carried to another room in their base. You were sitting on his lap while practicing more of your english. Your ears briefly flicked towards the main room when a loud crack sound floated in from where the others were, but you were too focused on the foreign words to pay too much attention to it. Though you turned your whole head in that direction when you heard the door to the base open again.
-Once you finished your mini lesson, you were brought back into the other room, the human woman was no longer there, and the rest of the adults were sitting on the stools around the table.
-You looked around for the woman until someone distracted you with a cut up fruit, which you picked out of the bowl with your hands. You just received fond head shakes as your hand and lower face got covered in fruit juice.
-Lyle just wiped off your face and hands before they continued with their daily routine with you.
…
-And unbeknownst to you, the general’s body was laying on the floor of the forest, getting picked at by the wild animals of Pandora’s forests. Gone to the world as soon as Lyle got his hands on her neck.
-And once you were asleep against Z, the men went over to the main base with all of the human agents, barricaded the exits, then broke all of the windows as quietly as they could.
-They observed to make sure that everyone inside stopped moving, then made their way back to their own base.
-They each kissed your forehead and nodded to Z once they made it back, before going to sleep themselves.
…
-Though they didn’t stay in their base for very long because they knew that they wouldn’t have any resources left in a little bit.
They had moved away from both of the RDA bases until they spotted a clan, then moved a bit away from it before building themselves a shelter. And took the pointers from the stories you told about your old clan to provide for themselves and you. Though they weren’t sure how to make the navi clothes, and just kept manually washing their human style clothes, though they were getting threadbare since they had been on their own for a couple months.
Though the clan had begun to notice the new activity near them, and recognized the sky people features in the adults, and recognized that you were a native like them. And that didn’t make them feel good, so they notified the only man they thought would know what to do about it. Jake Sully.
-And once Jake asked some questions about the appearance of the avatars, he was scared for you. Wondering why they have a toddler with them in the first place.
-But he figured he needed to get to that clan and figure it out for himself.
…
-Jake made the quick trip to the clan that had reported the human-like navi seen with a child in the forest.
-When he got there, the olo’eyktan greeted him, then brought him to the edge of their territory to discreetly observe the group together.
-A veritable chill went down Jake’s spine when seeing the exact features of the group of navi. Being that he had once worked with, and fought a war against them.
He confirmed the suspicions of the clan’s leader and said that he could handle this, but to have them stay close just in case things went south. He moved closer to the group along the branches of the trees until he was only a little bit away, then dropped down and walked around the tree to be in front of them. He put his hands up before getting their attention and watching all of them whip their heads around to look at him. The little kid with them shouted his name before having Z push them behind her. He just narrowed his eyes at that before asking what they were doing and why they were here.
Jake watched as they all looked at each other before Quaritch stepped forward to talk to him. He put a hand up to keep Jake from walking backwards and told him that they had abandoned that mission, and gained a new perspective. Jake just furrowed his eyebrows to prompt him to continue with his explanation. Quearitch nodded and brought a hand to Jake’s shoulder to guide him to come sit with the rest of the group.
As he sat with the group, the child, toddler really, came up to him and sat on his lap. He smiled and put a hand behind their back to keep them from falling before looking up at the group of, apparently, ex-RDA soldiers. They went into the story of how they had met the child, and what they had done to get them. They all looked down while explaining the death they caused, but perked up when saying that they had gained their little darling from the unfortunate event. They explained that they’d been building a routine with taking care of them and teaching them English and had completely forgotten about the missions they were given because you had become their priority. Then the general had shown up and tried to take you from them because she thought you were a ‘distraction’, and they had dealt with her accordingly, and that she was left for the forest creatures. Then they had busted the windows of the main RDA base in the forest in the night, so it was unlikely that any other humans that had come back would turn up.
-Jake was surprised to say the least. He couldn’t say that any of these events were expected of these people, in his opinion.
-He also hadn’t even noticed that he had been covering your ears basically since the retelling had started. He only realized when you had put your hands over his.
-He just raised his eyebrows and playfully flipped you over and put your legs over one shoulder and tickled your tummy. You just scream and laugh before slapping at his hand. He just chuckled before setting you on your feet in front of him, pointedly ignoring the stares from the group around him.
-After that he just sighed before asking what they intended to do now.
-They had all made eye contact before saying they were ready to embrace the way of the ‘people’, as you had called it. Though they weren’t exactly sure how that would work, as they’ve been just doing their own thing in this place for a couple weeks.
-Jake had a look of deep thought on his face before talking to you in navi, asking how you would feel about joining his clan and continuing to learn as you had before being with your current caretakers.
-You had enthusiastically nodded before going up to Lyle and hopping in his lap. You heard him suggest moving them to be just outside of the Omatikaya clan and to have you learn from the clan teachers, along with teaching the adults the ways of the people like he learned.
-They all came to an agreement before asking how soon they would be moving.
-They had all said that they wouldn’t mind moving over there right then. So, Lyle stood up with you in his arms while everyone else grabbed all of the stuff they had with them and began to follow Jake through the forest towards his clan.
-It had taken them a few hours of constant walking to make it to the Omatikaya clan, and as soon as they had entered the heart of it, there were stares from everyone settled on the group.
-Jake just pointedly ignored them as he continued walking with the group towards his home, in the hopes of privately discussing the matters to come. Though he did notice the whispers and his own family attempting to stealthily follow them through the crowd.
-Meanwhile, you were looking at everything in the clan with wonder and excitement because of the semi-familiar surroundings.
-They had only just made it into Jake’s home to discuss the details of their future arrangement when the rest of Jake’s family stormed in behind them.
Neytiri was the first to speak, immediately shrieking, “Ma Jake! What are these people doing here?!” She shouted this while angrily gesturing to the extra people in her home.
Jake just put his hands up in front of them before saying that they will all explain the situation to them. Neytiri started to argue with him, stepping closer to him as she shouted more. You were just observing this with concern and confusion. You understood every word, and that made you very conflicted. You turned to ask Lyle why she was so mad at them, making him remember that you knew their language and gently covering your ears from the, no doubt, expletive filled tirade from Jake's wife.
This, ultimately, just drew her attention to you. She scrunched her face and yelled harder at her husband to ask why a child was with them. Jake just kept telling her that they would explain everything to her. This only made her more mad, and you more upset. Your ears were pinned to the sides of your head, and your eyes, focused solely on Neytiri, were tearing up. All of the adults surrounding you were seeing the impending meltdown. You interrupted everybody in the vicinity by letting out a loud whimper. And as everyone looked at you, an atokirina gently rested on top of your head, staying long enough for everyone to see it before floating away.
The whole group was staring at you in awe before processing the state you were currently in. Lyle and Z, who were closest, started comforting you, and Neytiri had finally started calming down while she touched Jake’s arm and shamefully lowered her ears.
-Jake decided to defuse the situation by prompting the group with the offering of changes of clothes, in the Omatikayan style.
-That made you perk up a bit, asking if they would really have clothes for you.
-Jake smiled at you and assured you that they would get some clothes that you like for you.
-You had calmed down and were now excited to get a change of clothes, a lot more familiar to what you were still used to.
-Everyone present had calmed down, and Jake asked if you wanted to go with his children so they could get you new clothing. Which you accepted before being set down and leaving with the four other youngest people present.
Neteyam had picked you up when you had fallen back to look at everything as they were going to where all of the spare clothing was. You were talking, in navi, about how you were going to pick out nice clothes for all of ‘your adults’, and how you had imagined them learning your ways. They all thought that it was endearing, but overall sad. They all shared a look before finally getting to the storage tent with the extra clothing for the clan.
You were set down in front of the clothes that would fit you, and you immediately started looking through them. You had quickly picked out a very basic looking purple tewng, and were looking for a top that matched it. You ended up picking a top that had a mix of beading and knots to form a design. And after you changed you went to the adult sized clothing to pick out outfits for your adults. Just something basic before they learn to make their own. And you ignored the eyes on you as you were debating the choices you had.
And once you had made your final selections for everyone, and had them sorted in your hands, you had gone back to the group of Jake’s children. Letting them know that you were ready to be brought back to the adults.
-They didn’t say anything, just led you out of the tent with small smiles on their faces.
-You started talking to the youngest girl, Tuk, while walking back to the family’s kelku. Occasionally one of the older siblings chimed in too.
-You two had become fast friends in the time it took to get there.
-You all had shown up just as they were finishing another argument, though they had come to a conclusion.
-Z had immediately come up to you and lifted you by the armpits to move you into the middle of the group. And all of their attention went to the bundles of clothing in your arms.
-You excitedly told them that you had picked out clothing for all of them, then eagerly passed out the clothes to them.
-They all looked at them in confusion, and you laughed before saying you could help them. Though it sounded adorable coming from you because a couple months is not long enough to be fluent in english.
-It was truly toddler speak, combined with a limited vocabulary. And they found your eagerness and, almost, babble to be the cutest thing ever.
-Though they had to come to a compromise of you explaining the tewng to the guys, and waiting for them to change, before staying to help Z into the clothes.
The Sullys were just observing this scene with apt attention. With harsh focus on the ex-soldiers. But they were intrigued with your offer to help them yourself, though they had assumed you had forgotten that they were there, and could also help.
Jake decided to step in at the end, and offered to help the guys change himself to save time for the group. And though the men were cautious about changing in front of what used to be their enemy, they knew that they would do it for you. Along with knowing the attitudes of the navi people with exposure. So, they waited until most of the others present left before unfurling the clothes and wincing at the minimal coverage. Jake just laughed before telling them that he had the same reaction his first night with the clan.
They listened to the explanation from Jake before hesitantly taking off their previous clothes and putting on the loincloths, along with the other small accessories you picked for them. They were done quickly and swapped places with the others that needed to change.
You went back in with Z and waited until she had taken off her other clothes before showing her how the loincloth went on and helping her with tying it. Then assisted with the top and helped position it in a nice way. They told her to sit still while you put a necklace and anklet on her. Once you were done you beamed at her with all the pride your little body could produce. You clutched onto her around her hips, and she walked out of the tent while holding onto you and swinging you around, you giggling all the way. The sight of it brought smiles to the entire group outside, with Tuk beginning to beg her father to do that with her too. Jake just shook his head before grabbing her, swinging her around in front of him as he waddled in a circle.
Which was enough for her in the end.
-Once everyone calmed down, and stopped picking at their clothes, they were told to follow Jake so they could pick out a spot to build their own kelku.
-This had you very happy, pulling on Z’s hand as you guys began to walk into the forest behind the Sully’s home.
-Your eyes had turned calculated as you looked up into the trees, assessing each one of them. Thinking about the possibilities for each of them and their limbs.
-Your adults were a little surprised at how serious you got about picking a spot to build a home. Though they suspected that you would know which place would be best.
-You had been walking around for a few minutes, looking back and forth up into the trees, eyes narrowed. And out of the corner of your eye, you saw a promising one.
-You immediately turned in a different direction, quickly walking up to the thick tree you spotted. You looked up at its limbs, nodding as you walked around the base of the tree.
-Though they got a bit panicked as you suddenly jumped up and started scurrying up the tree. You made it to the major limbs of the tree, poking and crawling around on them in your inspection.
-You must have been happy with what you saw, because you started coming back down to the ground, and happily announced that that was the one. Asking how long it would take for the kelku to be built.
-Jake just said it could take a while depending on how big it would be, and how much involvement you wanted in it.
-You just beamed at him before prancing over to Mansk and reaching to be picked up, which he did quickly and swiftly.
You guys made it back to the middle of the clan, and you pranced off with Jake, Neytiri, and Neteyam to grab food for everyone. It was a simple meal of some fruits and teylu, and you happily carried a couple portions with you back to your people. Neytiri was eyeing you from behind, wondering how you still act like a carefree child after what you’ve been through. She smiles a little bit as you start skipping to the ex-soldiers once they come into your view. Observing as you hopped up into the lap of the woman with no hair on the sides of her head.
Their whole family watched as they had conversation with each other while doting on you, each one of them periodically giving you their full attention. And you were just basking in the familiar food and surroundings while being taken care of. They couldn’t help but smile at the situation while still being wary of the adults that you were with. And you occasionally helped Z adjust the top to her liking. Laughing when they huffed at the clothing.
You started talking in your broken english about how you wanted the kelku to be built and set up. Slightly different from how the Omatikaya ones were, more like your home clan, and bigger to be able to fit everyone. All of them nodding along to what you were saying. They didn’t exactly see your vision, but would help as much as they could to achieve it for you. They wanted you to be happy and fulfilled.
-And the next couple months were filled with you directing the adults helping to build the home how you saw it, when you weren’t in lessons with the other children.
-You had made fast friends with Tuktirey, hanging out with her daily, and by extension her siblings.
-You hadn’t been in lessons yet in your clan, and were the youngest attending. This meant that you weren’t expected to pick everything up as easily as the bigger kids, and had more free time to oversee the kelku being built.
-You had really taken to weaving, and crafting. Making many clothing pieces, accessories, and baskets during the period of time the kelku was being built.
-And you immediately claimed a space once it was done, toddling around to look at everything that’s now finished.
-You watched as all of the adults explored the spaces and nooks in their new home, taking their time to explore everything. Each claiming a space as theirs eventually.
-They had been training daily, and learning how to build and weave the home on the side. Though it was all worth it to see you so happy. They felt fulfilled providing joy for you.
-They couldn’t help but smile as Lyle lifted you into his arms to help you hang up all of the clothing and other items you had made for everyone during your lessons.
-Each of them gave you a kiss on your cheek after you dragged them back down the tree so you could all bathe after the excitement of the day.
They had been taught how to make or acquire the items needed for bathing, and used that as one of the moments to be calm and dote on you to the highest degree. And even though they still weren’t used to how exposed the navi were, it was no longer as weird to bathe as a group and help each other. It was one of their most treasured moments when you allowed yourself to act more your age, as you tended to act more mature than a three year old should. You took it upon yourself to step up for them as they were plunged into a new life, and they really appreciated that. Though it was nice to see you allow yourself to be immature. To allow them to really baby you like they wanted, take the time to coddle you. You usually made no attempt to wash yourself, melting into their arms and allowing them to do it for you.
They never realized that they were usually being observed during that time, their senses not as attuned to constantly observing around them. But it was usually Neytiri that perched herself in a tree by them and observed how they were with their guards down completely. Though they have been defying her expectations since they arrived back in her life. It has become a nice ritual for her, allowing her to relax in their presence and convince herself to stop being so distrustful of them. Seeing them caring for a child really made her feel for them. She knew the feeling herself, as a mother, even though all of her kids are mostly independent at this point.
Originally, she was observing them like a hunter watching prey move through the trees, body tensed in her observation. But now she watches while relaxing on the branches above them. Laying on the branches, flicking her tail in content, while focused on the group. She appreciated your friendship with her children, approving of you and them influencing each other. And she was fond of your presence. Though she had never gotten to see you truly act your age like that. And that worried her, which she brought up to Jake from time to time. His words alone hadn’t calmed her, but these moments did. She saw you healing. So, she was content to see you relax and let yourself be a toddler, and be cared for.
-Her attention snapped to the side as someone stopped next to her on the tree, though she relaxed again as she saw Jake settle beside her.
-She figured it made sense that he would catch on eventually, as he had also been a little bit worried about the child.
-He started silently watching the group with his wife. Having a small smile on his face as he saw what she had been going off to do recently. Feeling fond of seeing you act your age and enthusiastically accept the care offered to you.
-He saw Neytiri’s attitude towards the former soldiers change and had been wondering what brought it on. And now he saw it for himself.
-Children change people, bring out their true colors in a sense. And he was happy to see the effect it had on the group of people in front of him.
…
-It had been some time since your home had been built, and all of you had been adjusting quickly. You to the new culture, and them to the navi life.
-Though they were still learning the language and ways of life, they were making a major effort for your sake.
-They saw how happy you were to speak the navi language with them, and do the things you were used to doing before.
-They were acting as a family unit, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.

UNDER THE MASK pt 1 - collecting samples. recoms (avatar)
IN WHICH… the marine recoms find out the scientist they’ve been teasing for about a month now has more to offer than they thought.
Notes: scientist! recom! reader, a little suggestive, indecent jokes from the recoms (just a bunch of flirtatious, inappropriate jokes from the recoms tbh)
( includes fike, mansk, quaritch, brown, and lyle )
series list
—
You didn’t asked to be revived in the form of a Na’vi body. You thought the RDA was only taking a precaution when they asked you to consent to the program. You didn’t expect to actually wake up after your death in an entirely new body.
You were one of the only scientists brought back from the dead; there were seven of you in total. The rest were military soldiers.
You didn’t remember much about your old life. Though, it wasn’t really yours to begin with. You just had the memories of a woman.
Your sole purpose on Pandora remained largely the same after your revival. You continued to dedicate your life to science and medicine as the faint memories of your old life swirled around in your mind.
You were the first recombinant to be brought back. The RDA thought it was best to revive the scientists before the soldiers. They were right. You were much calmer than they expected, fascinated by your new blue skin and swishing tail. A year later, the soldiers were revived.
You were expecting to remain uninteresting to them. After all, they never paid you much attention when you were human. But you had Grace to blame for that. She always swiftly hid you when Colonel Miles Quaritch and his team walked by, knowing the Marines had a taste for women who looked and acted like you.
Unfortunately, as one of the only females in the operation, the soldiers noticed you a lot more. Ja and Prager only sent you lazy smiles as you passed, fully intent on letting you do your thing, but five other military recoms were a nuisance to your daily life.
The annoying military Recombinants—Quaritch, Lyle, Mansk, Fike, and Brown—were a rough bunch, the kind of men who thrived in the presence of violence. You were the complete opposite of them, preferring the quiet lab and rarely ever talking back. The difference between you and them couldn’t have been more obvious, and boy, did they love to remind you.
You were no stranger to wandering glances. You noticed them back when you were human. Yet, you still felt uncomfortable when the Marine recoms stared at you.
Every time you passed by their little group, they turned silently, their gazes watching your every move. Today was no different from that. You clutched the data pad in your left hand as you strolled through the base, on your way to the science lab once again. You noticed the dreaded group almost immediately; they were laughing pretty loud after all.
They were all leaning against the wall, exchanging teasing remarks. Mansk was the first to spot you. He whispered to his teammates and the mood suddenly shifted. Your ears pinned against your head in annoyance as you passed them, feeling their eyes burning into you.
They said nothing for the first second before Lyle opened his mouth. “Hey, Doc!” He loudly called out. You paused, glancing over your shoulder. You knew if you ignored them, they’d just follow you and you’d get no work done. “Looking good in that body. How about you come check on me later? I might need a… personal examination.” You didn’t have to look to know he had a snarky grin on his lips.
Quaritch deeply chuckled, a sound that sent shivers down your spine. Not necessarily good ones, though. “Careful, Wainfleet. She might take you up on that offer if she didn’t have her hands full.” His eyes roamed your body, not even trying to hide it. You felt your face heat up.
Your tail swished from side to side in frustration, which only encouraged them. You began walking again, merely rolling your eyes at the remarks. However, Mansk didn’t let you go so easily.
“Don’t be coy, Doc. You’re practically part of the team now. Why don’t you join us for some drinks?” He pushed himself off the wall and stepped in front of you, blocking your way.
“You’ve got us all wondering what you’re hiding under that lab coat.” Brown chimed in with a smirk. You lightly huffed, casually stepping around Mansk.
You wouldn’t usually reply to their biting comments but you were on your last nerve today. “I’m here to do a job.” You said, “And so are you. If you don’t mind, I’d appreciate if you stopped annoying me.”
You tried to walk off but a firm tug held you back from important work. “Feisty today, aren’t we?” It was Quaritch. You pulled your arm back, lips curving into an unimpressed frown.
“I am not here for your blatant entertainment, Colonel. I’m here to get my research done.”
Despite your sharp tone, Fike still muttered something to Mansk that had them both snickering. You clenched your jaw.
Quaritch’s grin widened at your words. “You definitely find a way to keep things interesting, Doc. If you ever need a break from all that chatter in your brain, we’ll be happy to relieve some stress.” His voice dipped into a suggestive tone, and you knew what he was implying.
You took a deep breath, barely holding onto the last of your calmness. “I have work to do, Colonel.” You briskly walked away, the sound of your boots growing fainter as you shoved past the laboratory doors.
You sat at your desk for a minute, calming yourself from the annoyance bubbling up. No matter how hard you tried to stay focused on this godforsaken planet, the weight of the soldiers’ gazes and their various taunts still drew a reaction.
You knew you’d be seeing them much sooner than you liked. You were due to collect some samples and you needed someone to keep guard. Though, the RDA gave you five idiots to keep watch instead.
An hour after your run-in with the particular group of soldiers, you were forced to see them again. You trudged through the base, trying to delay the process. You saw them waiting outside, tapping their boots against the floor impatiently. They were expecting to see another scientist, a less amusing one, but when you swung the door open, they grinned.
“Let’s get this over and done with.” You muttered, pushing past them.
You hated Pandora but you could never hate the beauty of it. Sometimes you wished you had been born Na’vi so you could appreciate everything the dangerous world had to offer.
The jungle was alive with sounds and the chittering of animals as you moved carefully through the vegetation, ducking occasionally to avoid a tree branch. You stopped every five minutes to take a sample, labelling it and storing it away before continuing on your way.
You knew you weren’t alone, you had five military recoms trailing after you, and that made everything less beautiful. Their forms moved heavily through the foliage, not really caring where they stepped. The group was meant to keep you safe but they only felt like a distraction.
You were observing a particularly interesting plant before you heard the rather obnoxious voice of the Colonel. “What’s the matter, Doc? We got you all hot and bothered?”
Your ears flicked at the unnecessary remark. “Only doing my job, Colonel.” You muttered, careful not to show any emotion Quaritch would use against you.
“That all you’re doing?” Lyle piped up, the grin evident in his voice. “You should be focusing on something else. Like us.”
Oh, how you wished to throw a rock at him or shove a handful of dirt into his mouth.
You heard Mansk snicker as you straightened up, walking further into the forest without another world. You had no intent of taking part in their banter.
“Don’t be so cold, Doc.” Fike called after you as they followed close behind. “We’re just tryna keep you company, can’t have you lonely out here.”
You wished you were alone. Perhaps you should have specifically requested for Z-dog and Walker to accompany you instead.
You slowed down and that was enough for Quaritch to take long strides to stand behind you. His tall frame casted a shadow over you as he fell into unified steps. “Loosen up, Doc. This’d be a lot more fun if you did.” Again, he didn’t try to hide the way his gaze flickered to your chest. He was never subtle in the slightest.
Your grip tightened on your tool kit as your tail flicked him. “For the last time, I’m here to collect data.” You coolly said, “That’s all.”
Quaritch chuckled, “Can’t blame a guy for trying. You’re the only interesting thing out here.”
“Yeah.” Brown, who wasn’t too far behind, voiced. “Watching you work is a nice change from the military crap.” You would have preferred if they were actually doing their jobs instead of focusing on you.
You ignored them to the best of your ability but it was difficult with the group almost circling around you, their remarks growing bolder by the second.
You were scanning a tree when Lyle broke your trance of concentration. He leaned in, "You know, if you ever need a different kind of data… We’re more than happy to volunteer."
You quickly recoiled, a little disgusted at his words. Quaritch placed a hand on your lower back before you could step away. “Easy, Doc.” He uttered, “Wouldn’t want you to trip and fall.”
You held back a scoff. “Can you all just stop?” You said, the frustration seeping into your voice. “I’m trying to collect data here, and you’re all acting like animals.”
They clearly enjoyed your reaction. Mansk steeped forward, “You don’t like our attention, baby?”
You almost succumbed to the urge of throwing a pair of scissors in his face. “I’m collecting samples. If you have nothing scientific to say then leave me alone.”
Quaritch raised his hands in mock surrender yet the smug smirk on his face never faltered. “Alright, we’ll back off.” You doubted that.
The uneasy feeling of their eyes never truly disappeared. You could hear their muffled laughter and murmured comments following you, a reminder that you still weren’t alone.
Barely an hour had passed before the sky darkened. You didn’t think much of it before the first raindrop hit your nose. You tilted your head up, eyes scanning the sky. It only took a second for a heavy downpour to drench you. The droplets of water crashed against the ground with such intensity that it made it hard to see, and it almost hurt.
“Shit.” Quaritch muttered over the booming thunder. “Everyone, under the trees!”
Mansk, the closest recom to you, grabbed you by the shoulder and dragged you under the nearby tree. The canopy offered some form of shelter but still not a lot. It did little to keep you dry.
Your clothes were already soaked, specifically your thin shirt. It uncomfortably clung to your skin. Your straight hair was curling in the humidity, sticking to your face.
Lyle shook his head like a wet dog, his braid sending water flying everywhere. You covered your face to block the droplets. “This rain is something else.” He said, “Never seen such a heavy downpour.”
Mansk was the first to check up on you since the rain. A grin tugged at the corner of his mouth. “Doc, you look a little… soaked.” His eyes lingered on your drenched form while you glared at him.
You tugged at your shirt, a fruitless attempt to keep it from sticking to your skin. The fabric was nearly transparent, leaving nothing to the imagination. Mansk’s words had brought you the undivided attention of his teammates.
“This weather is really doing a number on you, Doc.” Quaritch drawled as he leaned against the thick tree trunk.
“It’s only rain, Colonel.” Your response came out sharper than you intended it to. But you knew even if you screamed at him, he wouldn’t leave you alone.
“Yeah, but it’s kind of hard not to look.” He chuckled.
Fike, who was standing on your left, smirked as you tried to wring out your shirt. “That’s one way to distract us. Keep it up and we might forget why we’re out here.”
Lyle was the next to comment. “Loving the view, Doc.”
You shot Lyle a look before forming your arms over your chest. “Let’s just focus on staying dry.” You grumbled.
“Don’t worry, Doc. We’re just appreciating the scenery, right boys?” Quarditch’s gaze shamelessly traced every curve that was now exposed by your wet clothes.
You opened your mouth to snap back but the words never rolled off your tongue. Quarditch had reached out to brush a strand of wet hair away from your face. His warm touch lingered for longer than necessary before pulling away.
You impatiently waited for the rain to stop but as the long minutes dragged by, you lost hope. It had been half an hour of a continuous downpour and you were still soaked, forced to shiver as you paced back and forth.
Quaritch and his team had settled at the base of the tree, sitting in a circle and trading jokes. They seemed unconcerned about the delay while you were basically gnawing at your fingertips.
Your tail flicked back and forth as you paced, flicking droplets of water with every step and narrowly avoiding whacking Mansk. The longer you waited, the less time you had to gather data. You were already on a tight schedule.
Quaritch noticed your unease and he parted his lips to speak up. “What’s wrong, Doc? Can’t stay still for two seconds?” He teased. You glowered at him.
“I don’t have time for this, Colonel. I have limited time and this damn rain is wasting it.”
“Relax, sweetheart. You’ll get your samples eventually.” Lyle butted in. You gritted your teeth, the tip of your tail swaying in annoyance.
“That isn’t good enough.” You seethed.
“Pacing isn’t gonna make it any better.” Fike called out.
Quaritch looked up at you, sending you his signature smirk. You despised what he was going to say next. “I’m sure we can find a way to occupy you, Doc. Just to pass the time.” There was nothing innocent about his words.
“I don’t have time for distractions, Colonel.” Every time you tried to push him and his team away, they tried to reel you back in.
Quaritch was clearly amused by you. You turned to watch the rain again, your patience wearing thin.
You waited for another ten minutes. You tried to sit still for as long as you could before you couldn’t take it anymore. “Fuck it.” You cussed, grabbing your tool kit. The recoms watched as you stepped out from under the tree without a word, letting the hard rain hit you again.
“Hey, where you going, Doc?” Lyle exclaimed, though his tone sounded more amused than concerned as the soldiers watched you.
You didn’t reply as you stalked forward, determined to collect as much data as you could, even if it meant catching a cold later.
“Guess she’s serious about that data,” Mansk commented with a chuckle.
The recoms watched as you disappeared into the jungle. None of them stopped your stubborn pursuit as you marched through the rain despite the miserable conditions.
“Do you think maybe she’s just crazy?” Fike voiced.
It took you twenty minutes to trudge back to the group. You were drenched and shivering and overall not in very good condition. But at least the last sample rested safely in your kit.
Your shirt was completely see-through by this point. It offered you no protection against the frigid rain. You maintained some of your calm composure despite the chills racking your body.
The soldiers were still lounging under the tree, only raising their heads when they heard the sound of a twig snapping. They all stared at you in amusement as you finally reached them.
Quaritch immediately locked eyes with you. “Look who’s back. You look like you’ve been through hell, Doc.” His eyes scanned the small tears in your shirt.
It surely felt like you had. You were glad the soldiers weren’t there to witness you tripping.
“Shut your trap.” You sneered, dropping the sampling kit before sitting down and slumping against the tree. “I fucking fell down a hill and into a river. Hit a few trees too. Hurt like a bitch.” They had never heard such strong language from you but then again, they didn’t know you had the willpower to walk through the heavy rain.
Lyle whistled lowly, “Damn, Doc, you’re practically giving us a free show over here.”
You didn’t reply. Your ears were pinned back against your head in annoyance as you watched the rain. “Let’s just get out of here.” You grumbled, going to collect your supplies before Quarditch grasped your arm.
“No can do, Doc. The rain ain’t letting up and we can barely see a meter in front of us. We’ll get lost or some of us might fall down a hill. Again.” He grinned, showing off his fangs as he searched your face for a reaction.
“We can’t stay out here for the night.” You fired back. “We’ll get eaten alive.”
“Nah. This area is relatively safe. Good thing we didn’t go too deep into the forest.” Quaritch’s tail lightly flicked, showing he was in no hurry to get back to the base.
You tilted your head back, almost hissing in frustration. You didn’t want to be stuck out in the forest with these military imbeciles. You didn't want to admit it, but Quaritch had a point; you could barely see the next tree over.
Agonising hours dragged by as the rain poured down. The soldiers aimed to entertain themselves, sometimes throwing a few teasing remarks your way. You merely rolled your eyes at their jeers.
"Alright, Lyle, time to pull out the tent. Looks like we're stuck here for the night." You heard Quaritch mutter. To your surprise, you watch as Lyle pulls a tent from his bag. You let the soldiers set it up, knowing you wouldn't be of much help anyway.
"Ladies first, Doc." Quaritch grinned, stepping aside for you to enter. Your tail flicked him in annoyance as you brushed past him. The interior of the tent was large, tall enough to fit your avatar bodies, but it was still a tight squeeze. Your Na'vi body was well-built, your arms toned from the harsh terrain, but the soldiers were almost huge. They were tall with large muscles, taking up almost all the space.
Military gear and supplies were strewn all over the floor of the tent, making it impossible to walk without stepping on something. The heavy droplets of rainwater hammered down onto the tent's fabric, creating a sort of ambience.
Your shirt, which had taken most of the rain, clung to your skin uncomfortably. The cold was beginning to seep through, making it hard to focus. You shifted around, lightly groaning.
With a sigh of exasperation, you had reached a breaking point. You lifted your wet shirt over your head, peeling the thin fabric off. You weren't particularly concerned with how the soldiers' eyes flickered to stare at your bra. You were just glad that awful shirt was off.
As you began to wring the water out of the shirt, Quaritch spoke up. He let out a low whistle before speaking. "Didn't expect this kind of show, Doc." Oh, how insufferable he was.
The tent felt even smaller now with how their gazes lingered on you. You settled into a dry corner of the tent, wrapped in a towel. Your eyes were drooping before Lyle made a biting remark. You quickly grabbed your shirt, throwing it at him. It hit Lyle in the face with a loud slap.
The soldier yelped in surprise and stumbled back. "Watch it!" he exclaimed. His teammates burst into laughter, their amusement evident.
"That's one way to shut him up," Quaritch said through a small laugh.
You eventually dosed off, exhausted and sick of the icy cold. The soldiers stayed awake, their guns at the ready. They lowly murmured amongst themselves, continuing their playful banter.
Lyle nudged Quaritch, a grin spreading across his face. "Look at that, Colonel. The Doc's out like a light." Your tail was lazily draped over your body as you curled up into a ball to retain warmth.
Mansk leaned in, lowering his voice. He didn't want to accidentally wake you and end up being slapped in the face with a shirt like Lyle. "You think she'll be annoyed if we keep making these jokes?"
"Nah, she's out cold." Fike softly chuckled under his breath.
Brown glanced over his shoulder, grinning. "Think she's dreaming 'bout us?" He lightly snorted.
Quaritch raised an eyebrow, his gaze still focused on your still body. "Careful now. If Doc wakes up and hears you say that, she won't be so friendly."
Lyle quietly laughed, "Yeah, you don't wanna get hit in the face with that shirt, trust me."
The quiet atmosphere was interrupted by a shrill cry. It was unsettling, making the soldiers jump in surprise. The sound cut through the night enough to jolt you awake. You blinked dazedly, squinting in the dim light.
"What is that noise?" You groaned, pushing yourself to your feet. Your annoyance was apparent as you moved the tent flaps aside. You stumbled out, the rain hitting you like a sturdy wall. You shielded your face from the heavy downpour, your gaze searching through the storm. You found the culprit—a large bird the size of your long torso rummaging through the scattered gear you had dropped.
"Get out of here!" You yelled, throwing a rock at the strange creature. The bird squawked again before scrambling off, leaving your seething form in the rain.
You re-entered the tent in worse condition than before. The soldiers tried to suppress their amusement as you shook off the water.
Lyle didn't even try to hide his laughs. "You're back at square one, Doc. Might need to take your pants off this time." You ignored him, returning to your previous spot.
"We’ll have to put a bell on you so you don't end up in the rain," Quaritch added, only humiliating you more.
You slumped against the side of the tent, stuck between a state of sleep and awareness. You jumped again when the same screech erupted from outside, testing your patience.
You slowly pushed yourself up once more. The gazes of the soldiers burned into you, clearly amused. The bird had not learned its lesson from the first time, plucking up the courage to scour through your gear once more. You saw how its beady eyes glanced at you, glinting with mischief.
"I've had enough of you!" You exclaimed, "You keep interrupting my sleep! And get away from my stuff!" You launched yourself at the bird, tackling it. Its screams escalated in volume as you swatted at the animal. It tried to avoid your advances, darting and hissing at you.
The soldiers poked their heads out of the tent, wanting to watch the chaos unfold. "Never thought I'd see a scientist take on a wild animal."
"Yeah, get some, Doc!" Lyle shouted, "Beat that thing!"
Fike turned to Quaritch, lightly nudging him. "You think she'll give up any time soon?" He muttered.
The Colonel shook his head, huffing in amusement. "Not a chance."
The bird scampered off, and you turned around, drenched but victorious. You ignored the soldiers' encouraging shouts as they clapped you on the back. You were desperate for rest, even if it meant fighting an animal. Everything began to settle down again, finally, until that bird returned.
"Oh, that is it!" You screamed. Your rage boiled over. "I'm going to cook that thing!" Lyle quickly grasped your shoulder, holding you back.
"Hey, calm down, Doc!" He shouted.
"I've had enough of that bird! I'm hungry! I'm gonna cook it if it doesn't shut up!" You tried to wriggle out of Lyle's grip, ears pinned back in anger and fangs bared.
"Might wanna rethink that, Doc. We ain't in the middle of a kitchen." Quaritch spoke up.
Eventually, you calmed down. You reluctantly sat down beside Mansk in the circle, arms folded over your chest in frustration. "You look cold, angel," Mansk commented, earning a glare from you.
"No, I'm perfectly warm. I might be sweating a little." You sarcastically replied, mockingly fanning your face. Mansk handed you his jacket, but you hesitated before taking it. Slowly, you slipped it on, wrinkling up your nose at the smell of his strong cologne rubbing off on you.
As handy as ever, Lyle pulled out a portable battery heater after noticing your intense shivering. "Forgot I had this." He laughed while Fike and Brown rolled their eyes. The heater softly hummed, and you almost closed your eyes at the much-needed warmth.
The soldiers fell back into their usual conversation, keeping their voices low so as to not disturb you.
"You finally warming up, Doc?" Quaritch glanced at you with a small smile, though it was more of a smirk.
You silently lifted your hand, showing him the middle finger. He chuckled, not offended in the slightest. After an endless night of rain and exhaustion, you finally drifted off. Your head lolled to the side, falling onto Mansk's shoulder while your tail was draped over Lyle's lap.
Mansk glanced down at you with a grin, his eyes trailing over the curve of your tail. He lowly chuckled, "I could get used to this. Not every day you get a warm spot and a cozy tail.”
The other soldiers exchanged glances as they caught the meaning behind Mansk's joke. You slept soundly while the Marines kept watch, their guns nearby. They continued to banter amongst themselves while allowing you to gain the rest you desperately needed.

Never Hold Back Your Step... Part 8
Hello! It does look like there is only one more chapter to write on Paper Hearts so yay!!! I'm not sure how much longer Sweet Home Indiana is but it's nearing it's end too.
Steve is never going to go to another party after this, Eddie gets book two of the Boy with a Bat, and they have a frank discussion about how Eddie gets paid for his less than legal side gig.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7
trigger warning: homophobic language by an OC.
****
At least the swim team knew to how to throw a party. Lyle was hosting and even though his family wasn’t well off, not like Steve’s parents, there was still enough room for the whole team and a few of their friends to have a good time.
Granted there wasn’t any booze, not openly anyway, but there were ice chest after ice chest of canned sodas. And all kinds, too. Steve was on his third Coke and had already sussed out the dude with the beer and was working his way over.
Going right up to the guy was asking for trouble that neither of them wanted.
The music wasn’t too loud, but you could dance to it in the main part of the house. People were actually laughing and having fun.
Which really should have been Steve’s cue. The universe was out to get him and wouldn’t let him have a moment’s peace.
He had almost reached the guy with the beer when Ezra blocked his path.
“Hey, Steve,” he greeted syrupy sweet. “I’m so glad you made it out. I wasn’t sure if you would come without Eddie Munson.”
Steve frowned and tried to move around his co-captain. “I go lots of places without Eddie. I went to nationals without him, didn’t I?”
Ezra put his hand on Steve’s chest to stop him. “Sure you did, but we didn’t win nationals now, did we?”
Steve looked down at the hand on his chest. “We swam our hearts man, the other teams were just better. Hell, that team from Georgia was on fire.”
Ezra snorted and rolled his eyes. “They only got where they were because they were black. They didn’t have any real talent. Not like us. Not like you and me, Steve.”
“Are you saying Lyle and Nick held us back?” he asked with his brow furrowing deeper in his confusion.
“We’ve always known that Lyle is a strong swimmer and not a fast one,” Ezra moaned waving the drink in his other hand around. “But he’s all this shit town has on offer.”
Steve gently pushed Ezra off of him. “Hey, how about not talking shit about the actual host, man.”
Ezra rolled his eyes. “Whatever,” he huffed. “That’s not even why I’m over here. I’m here to warn you about Munson.”
And there it was. Everyone in his life had felt the need at some point in the last six months to warn him off the super senior.
The other boy leaned in close, his lips a snarl. “He’s a queer, a little faggot boy,” he hissed, the spit landing on Steve’s face. “It’s the town’s worst kept secret.”
Ice slid down Steve’s spine. Oh shit. Of all the places he thought the other co-captain was going to go, that was not it. Drugs. DND. The ranting on table tops. All that slid away to sheer terror.
“And you better not bend over in the showers,” Ezra continued, “a pretty thing like you would just be his type.”
Steve’s eyes went wide. “Wha–what do you mean?”
“Everyone knows that if you can’t pay for your weed,” Ezra sneered, “that he’s willing to take a blowjob as payment instead.” He leaned further into Steve’s space, so that they were almost touching, the stench of weed radiating off the other boy in waves. “I saw Harry Masters sucking him off for a gram of the good stuff.”
Steve stomach lurched and swooped, bile rising up in his throat. Harry Masters was on the baseball team. He was tall, good looking, with that devil may care charm of Rob Lowe. Looked like him, too.
“What he does or doesn’t do doesn’t effect me, man,” he said, trying to aim for nonchalant and missing by a mile.
Ezra laughed in his face.
“Dude,” he cackled, “if you didn’t want people to think you’re down bad for ‘the Freak’ maybe rein in the eye fucking. I’ve seen the way you look at him and it makes me sick.”
That was when Steve got it. He had been wondering what the hell this conversation was.
“Oh my god!” he laughed. “Fuck, man, you were scaring me for a second there. You’re just jealous I don’t have the hots for you.”
Ezra pushed him. “The fuck I do, Harrington!”
“No, no!” Steve crowed. “I’ve got it all figured it out. All the times I caught you staring at me, all the times I felt someone watching me, all the times you’d try to keep me late after practice. You wanted me all to yourself.”
His co-captain turned purple with rage and swung at Steve, but before he could even flinch, there was someone at his side, holding Ezra’s wrist to keep the hit from even going anywhere near Steve’s face.
“Eddie!” Steve breathed. “What are you doing here?”
Eddie smiled at him with that soft dimpled grin Steve loved. “Hey ya, Stevie. I was just plying my wares when I heard the commotion and came over to make sure you were all right.”
“So you are my good luck charm,” Steve said brightly.
Ezra wrenched his arm out of Eddie’s hand. “This doesn’t concern you, Freak!”
Eddie leaned in close and cocked his head to the side. “It does, because you were talking shit about me and Stevie, here. And as Stevie’s good friend, I’mma gonna come to his rescue. Now, you’re going to skedaddle on home and sleep all this off.”
Ezra spat in his face. “Or what?”
The older teen just smiled menacingly. “Or else that gram you smoked will be the last you ever smoke, because I’ll report to you for doping for matches.”
Ezra paled and he gulped. “You can’t do that! I’ve never done anything but weed.”
“That’s true,” Eddie admitted. “But they’d have to do this big investigation and your name would be dragged through the mud. Or you could toddle off and go to college and leave this town in your rearview mirror.”
Ezra turned on his heel and ran out of the house as if the hounds of hell were on his tail.
Steve shook his head. “You do know this is where all the allegations about you being a devil worshiping cult leader come from, right?”
Eddie threw back his head and laughed. “They can think all they want.”
*
Eddie and Steve talked about what Ezra had said about how people make payments for their weed.
“I won’t deny that people have offer to blow me or even have sex with me in exchange for drugs,” Eddie said as they lay curled up on his bed. “But I’ve never taken anybody up on that.”
Steve twisted his head to look up at his boyfriend. “I can’t say I’m not pleased to hear that, but is there a reason why?”
“Several,” he admitted pulling Steve in closer. “One is that there is an actual fucking pandemic going on regarding gay men, and I wouldn’t trust those assholes even with a condoms. Another is that if I say yes to one, then I’ve got to say yes to next guy. And as my supplier wants actual cash for his product, blow jobs aren’t currency in any country I know of. And despite what Ezra said, most of the people offering aren’t men.”
Steve hummed as he snuggled under Eddie’s chin. “I can see that. Any other reasons why you won’t?”
“Does having a super hot boyfriend count?” he chuckled.
Steve kissed the underside of his jaw. “That’s a very good reason.” His hand slipped down his boyfriend’s side and to his belt. “A super hot boyfriend who is very grateful for the rescue.”
Eddie moaned as Steve’s fingers ghosted over his zipper. “Yeah and how are you going to show that gratitude?”
Steve slid down Eddie body and undid his belt. “I was thinking it was such a shame you didn’t get those blow jobs when your cock is so delectable.”
Eddie gasped and threw back his head as his super hot boyfriend’s breath felt hot on the front of his boxers. “God, baby. Show me what you’ve got.”
And Steve spent their evening doing just that.
*
Steve fidgeted nervously at Eddie’s locker after school. He had finished the most recent comic with only a week of school to spare. He had made sure that Jonathan and Nancy weren’t staying after school for any reason so they didn’t see him make the hand off. He knew he should have just done it at the trailer, but with him cutting it so fine before the end of the year, he didn’t want to make Jeff and the others wait for it.
Eddie loped over to his boyfriend and looked around. “Hey, sweetheart. You okay?”
He thrust the comic at Eddie, his eyes downcast. “It’s the most recent comic. There’s an explanation like before. But please don’t let people see that part.”
Eddie cradled the comic to his chest. “I’ll be careful, I promise. I’m guessing this means you aren’t coming over tonight?”
Steve shook his head. “Lucas wants to go see the latest Bond film, but his friends don’t want to go with him...”
“So you offered to take him,” Eddie finished. “That’s sweet of you.”
Steve snorted and shook his head. “His parents think I’m taking him to ‘Meet the Littles’ or some shit like that.”
Eddie threw back his head and laughed. “Yeah, that’s more like the Steve Harrington I know and love.”
“I’ll call when I get home, though...” he muttered, running his fingers through his hair.
“Okay,” Eddie murmured. “Well talk then.”
*
This time Eddie went straight to the back page to read the explanation first.
“Hey, Eds,
Again there are parts in between this, parts that don’t include me, that I’ll some day tell you all about. But I’m focusing on the parts I was part of. This time it all started with what the kids thought was a new species of lizard and turned out to be the beginning stages of an Upside Down monster. One they they dubbed the demodog.
I can just picture you frowning as you try to remember where you heard that from and the answer is you heard it from me. You asked me what it was and I told you it from one of their game thingies, but that’s only part of it. These demodogs have flower faces and run on four legs. They are part of a hive mind that allows them to communicate with each other.
Dustin had taken one of these things home and it ate his cat. His cat. You can be disgusted, I know I was. He had originally gone to Nancy’s for help but she had gone off with Jonathan about something related to Barb Holland. This was right after our fight at the Halloween party.
I was on my way with roses to apologize to her, when he intercepted me. And the rest is as they say is history. I would do anything for that kid now.
The other players are Lucas Sinclair and Max Mayfield. I don’t know if you need to know that, but I feel like you have to understand that for the rest of it to make sense.
I have so many tales to tell you but I can’t because it could get you hurt and that is the last thing I want to do.
Also, (blurred words) show you all the times I was brave, that I did the (more blurred words) when it came (blurred words) because I love you so much and (blurred words again) less of me.
Love,
Your Stevie”
Eddie hated how easy Steve had pegged him for frowning at the name like he said he would or how he knew he would be disgusted at the poor cat. He stared at the blurred words for a moment before his own eyes welled up.
Steve had tried writing over the parts with what were clearly tear drops but all it had done was make it worse. Why he didn’t just write again, Eddie didn’t know.
But Eddie could now make out the words, “Also, I wanted to show you all the times I was brave, that I did the right thing when it came to it, because I love you so much and I didn’t want you thinking less of me.”
He flipped back to the beginning and started reading. It was thrilling and exciting. That was if you didn’t know it really happened. And happened to the sweetest boy he had the privilege of knowing.
He wiped away his tears and made a promise to whatever it took to protect this boy with every fiber of his being. Because by god, someone had to.
