Reyal At A Glance - Therikine

Therikine - Where Land Meets Sea
Therikine is one of the latest settled regions of Southern Reyal during their early history, but it was the most important prior to the discovery of the Yuniv-Semat Trail.
As a temperate island, deep in Alkanite territory, it was exploited for its remoteness and abundance of natural resources at first. As those who fled from South-Eastern Reyal during the Exodus didn't have many resources or much of value in terms of trade goods, Therikine was essentially a holy grail for them.
Following the first religious wars, The Alkanites had a very hard time regaining trust of the rest of the world. Those in Tyrateol and other cities refused to do business with them for almost thirty years, before one day a ship set sail from Therikine to Heryeg-Ta, a major Tenavite shipping center. There, they unloaded several tons of gifts, ranging from dried ajjen mix from Therikine, to a few major works of art from Gallak. This marked one of the first attempts of intercontinental unity and goodwill, even if it didn't last.
In the following centuries, Therikine became a massive hub for traders and civilians alike, drawing in traders all across Reyal. As things cooled down thanks to communication and treaties, Therikine became a symbol of unity; a place where anybody, regardless of their religion, could feel safe together.
Nowadays, Therikine's use in terms of ajjen production has fallen; it's still produced and exported, but in much smaller amounts. Most familial communes, no matter where they're located, have their own greenhouse dedicated to growing the plants needed for it. Instead, Therikine focuses more on its mineral wealth, and has built a few small factories with the GRC's aid to help produce and distribute household robotics.
LV-72
LV-72, or “Laren Vuuhet”, which stands for “Mining Site 72” in the local tongue, was one of the Global Resource Committee’s many prospecting regions in the area. Located in a canyon, the area was originally marked for exploitation due to its high levels of yttrium and iron. However, many were shocked to find the presence of some very well preserved fossils in the canyon walls, coming from just before the Second Reset.
The entire mining operation switched gears, focusing on locating more. As time passed, two junior specialists (Sav and Uutarb, who grew to be very respected in their fields) proposed using ground penetrating radar to see if there was anything else in the area.
They were proven right, and on one fateful cave dive, Uutarb and one of her compatriots discovered two incredibly well preserved fossils. Not from before the Second Reset, but the First. Due to the nature of the extinction events & Reyal’s resurfacing in the periods that followed, they only had a hazy idea of what life was like before these catastrophic events. These caves helped to change their understanding of not only their world, but of themselves.
As this discovery took place well over two hundred years ago, LV-72 has more or less become a tourist attraction. Most of the fossils in the area have already been uncovered, being sent to museums and universities across the globe.
Yuurat
Yuurat is the capital of the United Therikine Communes. Originally, Yuurat had just been a small farming community, forming shortly after the third Exodus wave. Settlers were those who disagreed with mainstream Alkanite beliefs back in Gallak, and set out to find a new land that had been untouched by anyone. After scouring the seas, they found Therikine; a beautiful green gem among the dark blue seas.
Initially, growth was slow. The only things they knew how to work with were the super abundant algae and seaweed that grew in the area, which they used to supplement their diet. After a little more exploration of the region, they discovered a few new fruit species, as well as some miscellaneous vegetables and herbs.
On one fateful day, a local doctor began experimenting with some of the herbs, and discovered that quite a few had some very stimulating properties. After drying some and blending them together, he made Reyal’s very first cup of ajjen; a beverage that would change the world.
Word quickly spread, and ajjen became a very important trade good for Therikine. It began to command trade deals with Gallak and other Alkanite cities, with ajjen being almost as expensive as gold as word of its properties and taste spread. However, as dry ajjen is nowhere near as potent as fresh, things began to die down as some got their hands on seeds to grow their own.
Yuurat’s population slowly declined for a few hundred years, before it had a second wave of exponential growth, thanks to the discovery of rare earth minerals.
Today, however, most mining and production has been moved off world, and Yuurat has become more of a general food producer and vacation town. With a population only a fraction of what it used to be, Yuurat barely holds the power it once did, but is still a bustling and thriving town.
GRC Therikine Outpost
The Global Resource Committee (GRC) can be very closely tied to Therikine, in more ways than one. Therikine has always been a major producer of rare and important minerals, and the GRC was a big player in the development of Therikine’s mining industry.
The GRC’s Therikine outpost was established a little over 250 years ago, initially to help scout for new deposits on one of the relatively uninhabited sections of the island. Mining was already a very important sector for Therikine, but with the aid of the GRC, production tripled. Before the push of mining into space, Therikine would be one of the GRC’s top donors of resources, and played an important role in helping to fund new projects, such as the Rev-Legaken Launch Facility.
The outpost also was a major training facility for the GRC; new recruits of various physical sciences would typically be sent here to get their bearings, before being sent out to other locations across Reyal. Calculating environmental impacts from mining and finding new deposits were fairly easy, so it was a very simple and easy first post for greenhorns.
With the discovery of numerous fossils in the region, mining was slowly toned down in the area, with its new focus becoming paleontology. This marked the slow end of the outpost, as new discoveries are eventually dried up. Choosing for the area to become a center of learning, it was converted to a museum and hotel just a few decades ago.

Another Week of Football
The XFL chugs along in week 2, 2 more games were played. 1 Game today and 1 Thursday, I was so happy to see Thursday night football again. The Stl. Battlehawks had another comeback victory against a good Seadragons team that is somehow an 0-2 team, and the DC Defenders took a second victory over the LV Vipers in the rain. They were down 6-0 then 6-3 in the third and rallied in the 4th quarter to win 18-6 when they switched gears and started running all over the Vipers defense.
These games have been competitive and exciting to watch, it's not "good" like just having football while the NFL is off line good. No this is just good solid football, I complained that there were some theatrical things I didn't like that made the results one of the games unbelievable. However I recently learned that what might have been staged could have just been a happy coincidence that lead to a more entertaining match up.
This has honestly been a dream for me, I'm honestly a guy who only ever watched football so when the NFL season ended and the NBA finals were over (the NBA plays 82 fucking games so I only ever watch the playoffs) I wouldn't have anything to watch. However I've recently picked up on F1 as well ( since about 2018, when netflix dropped the show drive to survive ) which means I now have football and racing in the spring and summer while I wait for football to comeback in the fall.
So I'm praying these spring leagues catch on and make enough money to stay afloat and maybe even merge one day. That would be something, the USFL and XFL coming together to make another league that can keep us all entertained until the NFL comes back. Or maybe this can just be another place for people to chase their dreams instead of just being a stepping stone. Maybe these hopes are a bit pie in the sky knowing how Americans love their brand and more established names over newer players in the market but damn it a man can dream.

(Stara takes her time to land, and channel her DETERMINATION into her gear, as she can't focus to do this midair, causing her signature gear to become what would be the genocide variants. The Ink Locket, with the inky strings covering the locket in ink, and the Conch Destroyer, becoming red like the Real Knife.)
(In the meantime, Starfish's gear automatically switches to the True Knife and Broken Locket. She also equips the Temmie Armor, on her temporary 2nd armor slot.)

The world seemed empty, yet it was unusual, and still beautiful in it's own way.
As the Duo looked around, there was nothing but blue dunes, each of different sizes, the sand was a bizarre blue which ever so slightly seemed to sparkle under the faint light from the cloudy dark sky.
They stood on top of a dusty hill, which was right next to a long highway. There was also an old and rusty sign on two, slightly bent poles, standing twenty meters away. Judging by it's wide rectangular shape, it could be those that said the name of a place, but it was clearly turned away from the two.
There seemed to be nothing else in sight.
Oh boy… This was definitely not a small world, a method of travel would likely be needed quite soon.

Edge knew that he wouldn’t be able to carry Stretch for long. They were barely down the hallway to the stairs when warning twinges started up in his leg, and he could only ignore it for so long before he setback his own recovery. He resented that lingering weakness, hated that someone had stolen, albeit temporarily, his ability to physically take his willing husband to wherever he wished to put him. Hated that Stretch no longer flung himself at Edge from their front porch, trusting that he would be caught.
A return to that would come, he reminded himself. For now, he simply had to get Stretch to the car. He wasn’t about to let him walk downstairs with the delicate bones of his feet exposed to the floor of that filthy, junk-strewn warehouse anymore than they already had and perhaps Stretch realized that as well. His protests were brief and faded quickly.
“babe, no, your leg!” Stretch made a weak attempt at squirming loose, “i can walk!”
“You are in your bare feet,” Edge said shortly, “there is angel knows what foulness on this floor, and I am not letting you go.”
“guess i can’t argue that," Stretch sighed. "okay, captain. make it quick.”
“You’ve never said that before,” Edge murmured and Stretch let out a startled laugh that was always lovely to hear, but especially tonight. He really was all right if he could laugh like that, deep and sweet and loud.
So, Edge carried on down the stairs, past the melting remains of some kind of chemical foam, and Stretch didn’t struggle, a wise choice considering it would probably have sent them both tumbling down. He simply sighed and wrapped his slim arms around Edge’s neck, his skull resting lightly against his shoulder.
He was exhausted, Edge realized belatedly, already mentally berating himself. Of course he was, it was past the point of being late and going more into early, and the only sleep Stretch had had tonight was deliberately induced unconsciousness.
Better not to think about that. Seeing Stretch awake and hearing his laughter already relieved some of the raw, achy heat in his soul, there was no point in agitating it again. Surreptitiously, Edge ducked his head enough to breathed in the sweet scent of his husband’s magic, letting it further ease the dimming clamor of his LV demanding retribution. Much as he hated admitting when his brother was right, it would be best to let the Embassy security teams handle the kidnappers. Not that Edge wouldn’t be intently watching the results, but Edge knew himself well enough that he couldn’t promise not to react with violence if he saw any of them in person.
They’d stolen from him. Not a possession, no, love was not something to be owned, but it could be given, along with his soul, and Edge had given his to the very person they’d tried to use as a mere tool to be bartered with and after, they would have surely discarded him as nothing more than a useless object, a means to an end.
There was only one punishment suitable for that and Edge did not trust himself not to mete it out.
Outside, the night air was cool, refreshing after the dusty warehouse, and there was a new vehicle amidst the Embassy cars. An ambulance, the lights swirling silently atop, and the back doors were open with a stretcher already on the pavement. When the attendants saw them, they started forward, and in his arms, Stretch tensed, shifting as if to crawl up and over him in a wild attempt at escape.
“no,” Stretch said shortly. “no, no, no, don’t let the damsel in distress pose fool you, i am fine. all i need is a stiff drink and some zzz’s, this is me not consenting to any medical treatment.”
“Love—” Edge began. Stretch swung around to look at him, the pale glare of his eye lights accusing, and he backtracked, choosing his words carefully, “You were drugged. Perhaps it would be best if you were checked out.”
That suggestion was met with fierce scorn as Stretch scoffed, "yeah, i was drugged and now i am wide awake. i can tell you my name, my address, and my shoe size, and whoever tries to get me into the back of that wah-wah-mobile is gonna know it, too, when i shove my foot up their ass.”
“kinky.” Edge whirled to see his brother’s smirking face as he strolled towards them. “wellie, well, well, went fishin’ and got a hellava catch, eh, boss?”
In his arms, Stretch stiffened so briefly, he might have imagined it. He blinked rapidly, once, twice, as if to clear his vision, then relaxed again, settling on a wheedle in Red’s direction, “fishing jokes are so cliché, cooking is better. i’m the best cupcake in the bakery, so let him wrap me up and take me home. come on, tell them i’m fine.”
Red scratched the back of his skull lazily, “dunno, honeybun, might need a tune-up and an oil change—”
“quit switching the metaphors!” Stretch let go of Edge long enough to flip a middle finger at him.
Red snorted, amused, “yeah, yeah, he can take you home. if,” Red stressed, “you take a mo’ to strip off the new gear those assholes gave you.”
“aw, gee, red,” Stretch batted a pair of imaginary eyelashes, “you’ve never asked me to strip before. i’m not even wearing a g-string, where will you stuff the dollars?”
“cute,” Red’s grin widened in a way that made Edge want to carry his husband far away. The way he bared his teeth venturing into the realm of amused cruelty, and the flick of his tongue absurdly lascivious, “it’s evidence and we need it. if you’d rather change up at the bone factory, bet the docs could take a chance to check you out—”
“no!” Stretch yelped, “no, no, fine. you have something for me to change into?”
“yep.” And Red pointed to the back of the ambulance. “in there.”
Stretch rolled his eye lights. “wow,” he said dryly, “that trap isn’t even subtle. you want i should strap myself into the stretcher, too? check my vitals, start an iv?”
“it’s the only place to change, so either trust that we’ll do a catch and release, or…” Red trailed off meaningfully.
Stretch heaved a sigh and started squirming in Edge’s arms, wincing at the gravel as he was carefully set on the pavement. “back to fishing, huh? fine, fine. but if it drives off in the hospital way when i climb in the back, I’m shortcutting at the first stoplight and then we can play tag across town.”
“I won’t let them take you anywhere you don’t want to go, love.” Edge signed a little ‘x’ over his chest. Stretch’s scrutinizing look shifted to a soft smile and even though he would have preferred a doctor checking him over, Edge wouldn’t do anything to break the trust shining in his eye lights, not for anything in the world.
“okay, babe,” Stretch said, “give me five.”
He climbed into the ambulance, pulling the rear doors shut behind him. After a few minutes of the vehicle shaking and muffled swearing coming through the door, Stretch remerged. The clothes weren’t his own, but they fit, soft pants and a neon-bright sweatshirt that Stretch could have chosen himself, a far contrast to the cheap, bland clothes their kidnappers forced on them. Edge suspected his brother’s hand in it and wondered with some resignation if Red sent someone to purchase them tonight or if he simply kept spare clothes for them all in the dingy hole in the Embassy basement that passed as his office, for just such an occasion.
Probably the latter, Red was never one who minded delegating, but some things required a personal touch.
With visible distaste, Stretch handed over a large brown paper sack to Red. “take ‘em,” he said flatly. “burn them, whatever. i never want to see them again.”
“fair enough,” Red handed the bag off to one of the Embassy security who was standing close by with a muttered order. “all right, newly engaged goes next.”
Their Human friends were standing close by, both silently watching the entertainment, which was fair after the recent show upstairs. With the spotlight turned his way, Jeff hastily nodded and Antwan carefully set him on his feet, his hands lingering and reluctant to let him go.
“You two can head on home,” Antwan said, “We’re taking one of the Embassy cars.”
“yeah, okay, sounds good.” But Stretch didn’t return to Edge. He went to Jeff, leaning down to pull him into a tight hug that was fiercely returned. “hey, we made it, and you even got a special prize to top it off. congrats, bro,” Stretch told him.
It was charming the way Jeff’s cheeks went visibly pink even in the harsh overhead lights of the parking lot, but if this horrible night could end for him on a smile, Edge thought it fitting. No one said a word until the friends ended their embrace, Jeff heading into the ambulance to change and Stretch returning to Edge’s side, if not his arms.
“hey, honey bun.” Stretch paused, giving Red a questioning look, “i’ll have your cell phone back to you tomorrow.”
His face twitched but Stretch only nodded. He turned in a circle, his gaze searching, until it landed on Edge’s car parked on the far side of the lot. He started towards it and as slippers were included with his new wardrobe, Edge reluctantly allowed Stretch to walk on his own towards it.
Before he’d taken two steps, a small voice came from behind them. “Can I ride back with you two?”
Alone on the crumbling pavement, Blue stood there, his hands twisting together and his starry eye lights hesitant and hopeful. For the second time that night Edge cringed inwardly at not thinking of him.
“sure, bro,” Stretch said immediately. His eye lights flicked briefly to Edge to confirm, surprising him.
Of course he could come with them, why wouldn’t he…they needed to invite Blue over more often, Edge decided abruptly. They saw him often on movie nights and group events, and he knew that the Swap brothers had lunch together once a week, but he should spend more time with his brother, and with Edge.
Once, they’d been decently good friends, before his relationship with Stretch subtly cooled things between them. They could be friends again, better friends, if only one of them took the first step. Interesting how traumatic events could be a hell of an incentive.
“Of course,” Edge told him, and tried not to notice the sudden gratitude that filled Stretch’s face. He dug into his pocket for his keys and tossed them to Blue, who caught them with a jangle. “In fact, I’d prefer if you’d drive.”
Blue brightened visibly at the show of trust, darting over to the car. He held open the door as Stretch crawled into the back and didn’t so much as raise an eyebrow when Edge followed him.
“home, jeeves,” Stretch said. The last word broke on a deep yawn and he shifted to sprawl across the backseat, his skull in Edge’s lap.
“Seatbelt,” Edge chided.
“you put it on me,” Stretch grumbled. He didn’t move as Edge did, only settled in more comfortably once the belt was across him. He was asleep before they’d even left the parking lot, without so much as an ounce of deception in his long, slow breaths.
Cautiously, Edge settled his bare hands on him, choosing where to settle them with some care, one hand on his clothed side and the other on his skull with more palm than fingers. He wished for a pair of his gloves to keep the sharpened tips safely concealed. Earlier, he’d wanted his hands exposed and ready to be used, and now in the aftermath, he wanted them tucked away again, the same as he’d learned to conceal his other, more Underfell-ian tendencies. Only bringing them out when they were useful, like a set of heirloom dishes, then hiding them at the back of the hutch again to gather dust.
(don’t think of it that way, do not)
He resisted the urge to clench his hands, closed his sockets and tried to concentrate on the feel of warm bone under his bare hand. Stretch often carried spare gloves for him in his bag, never questioning Edge’s preference, never mocked or teased; he didn’t just accept that quirk, he embraced it and tried to help. If he were awake, he would have been pleased at the bare-handed touch, he would understand the significance of it and Edge focused on that.
It helped soothe some of his agitation and when Edge opened his sockets again, he was surprised to see the Embassy gates already looming ahead. “Drop us off, you can take my car home tonight.”
Blue nodded silently, his gaze focused intently on the road. There wasn’t even a teasing, if pointed, joke about Edge letting his car out of his sight. The car didn’t matter, all that was important was in his arms right now.
He pulled into their driveway and Blue held the door again as Edge carefully lifted Stretch into his arms. He paused long enough for Blue to press a gentle kiss to his brother’s skull, murmuring something Edge did not hear, then carried him inside as the car pulled out of the drive behind him. He hoped Papyrus was home, surely he was, and that he would know that Blue could use some friendly companionship after this night.
He would know, Edge decided firmly. This was Papyrus he was thinking of and it was likely he already had a pot of strong tea and some very interesting cookies ready to share, along with a blanket and some Mettaton reruns. Blue would be fine for tonight and tomorrow he could come over again, after they’d all had some necessary sleep.
He carried Stretch inside and settled him on the sofa. Upstairs would have been better, but he needed a moment for his leg to recover before taking him any further. Not that Stretch noticed, he only slept on, sleepily burrowing into the blanket Edge draped carefully over him.
Indecision seized Edge then. There were things that needed to be done, but leaving Stretch here alone made uneasiness stir in his soul. In the end, he checked the door and window locks to make sure they were secured and that their alarm system was on before he reluctantly went upstairs to run a bath and lay out pajamas. It would be testing Stretch’s ability to sleep through anything, but those Humans had touched him, laid their filthy hands on him. A quick wash would go a long way for both of them to get some decent rest.
He waited for the tub to fill with foamy bubbles, the unsubtle floral scent of lavender filling the room, before heading back downstairs. He halted on the landing, his soul seizing in his chest, to see that the sofa was empty, the blanket thrown carelessly back.
Edge closed his sockets and took a long, deep breath, settling his rattled nerves. Yes, Stretch was missing again, but this time, he suspected he knew exactly where he’d gone.
The sliding glass door was now unlocked, and Edge opened it to step out into the backyard. Dewy grass clung to his shoes as he walked and the horizon was overflowing with purples and pinks and deep orange, heralding the arrival of the sun.
The fence was standing open, confirming his suspicions, and Edge opened the coop door to find Stretch sitting on the floor, heedless of its less than sterile state. Nugget was in his lap, magnanimous surrendering her a scritches to her small, adopted duckling that was curled up on Stretch’s knee, mumbling out sleepy little quacks as it was gently stroked.
Stretch didn’t look up. “hey, babe,” he mumbled.
Edge sank down to sit next to them, pressing their sides together from shoulder to hip. “You could have warned me,” Edge said.
It was lightly said, but Stretch flinched, shifting to rest his head on Edge’s shoulder. “sorry, wasn’t thinking.”
“I’d say you’re still not,” Edge agreed. “are you even awake?”
“prolly not.”
They sat together in the dimly lit coop, the silence broken only by the faint sleeping rumbles from the chickens. Neither of them were prepared for Cheese to stir, going from sleeping to wide awake in an instant the moment they noticed the open door. With a riot of happy peeps, they hopped from Stretch’s knee, dodging Edge’s grab as they ran outside to plunge into the new pond, swimming circles in the clear water.
They followed them out, “No, not right now,” Edge began, preparing to wade in if necessary to secure their tiniest poultry companion.
“eh, let ‘em play," Stretch yawned. He sank down on the walkway they’d finished only the day before. “let them have some fun. may as well, i'm really tired, but i dunno if i can sleep yet."
Edge nodded and settled next to him again. The brickwork was hard beneath his tailbone and he made a mental note to have a bench of some sort installed. He should have thought of it before, Stretch enjoyed watching his pets, and both the patio and the porch swing were too far away for proper observation. Rather than allow Stretch to sit on the stones, he pulled his love into his lap, holding him close without impeding his view. "We can wait until you're ready."
"gonna have nightmares,” Stretch said abruptly. His voice was smaller and knowingly weary. "i was scared, you know, but andy was there, and he was scareder. his face was," Stretch gestured at his own face and shook his head. "i couldn't let him get hurt. i couldn’t."
It ached to hear that soft confession, though he’d known Stretch must have been frightened. He pushed the image of Stretch waking up terrified and surrounded by enemies out of his mind, saying firmly, "You didn't, you protected him."
"he wouldn't need protecting if he'd stayed in his seat on that bus all those months back,” Stretch said sourly and that was a notion that couldn’t wait for his therapist to address.
"Don't,” Edge told him softly, “Don't take on blame that isn't yours, you don’t deserve to carry their guilt."
"heh, yeah. you're one to talk."
“I know. So you can believe I know what I’m talking about.”
“don’t worry, babe, i know something about carrying guilt that ain’t yours, too.” Before Edge could question that, Stretch sighed heavily, confessing, "i knew one of the guys."
That was a chilling admission. "You did."
"yeah, he used to work at classic books,” Stretch said. He shifted in Edge’s arms, unconsciously pushing in closer. “had an issue with monsters, but i didn't think anything of it. lots of humans do. he never said anything out loud that i ever heard. last i knew, thomas said he quit. thomas was happier for it, he was about to fire the guy, anyway, him quitting made his life easier."
“Does my brother know this?”
“if he didn’t before, pretty sure he already does now, but i’ll tell him during my little interview tomorrow.” In his arms, Stretch shivered, bones briefly rattling. “when i saw him, saw into his—” Stretch stopped abruptly, “anyway. he’s not a nice guy, babe. not at all.”
“I see,” Edge said, slowly. There were depths in that obvious diverting should be explored, questions to ask, but that could wait for tomorrow. “Let’s go inside and get cleaned up, all right?”
“yeah, okay.” Stretch crawled out of his arms to the side of the pond and rather than fruitlessly chasing Cheese, he held out a hand. It took hardly more than a touch of blue magic to pull the little duckling close, their pitiful quacks as they were once more robbed of their watery freedom filling the air. “yeah, i know,” Stretch soothed, “tomorrow, okay? i’ll let you swim ‘till you’re sick of it, kiddo.”
He returned the duckling to Nugget, who unsympathetically tucked the peeping duckling beneath her, and when Stretch turned back to Edge, his gaze sharpened suddenly as he watched Edge climb to his feet. “where’s your cane?”
“I was getting it as we speak.”
“uh huh, from inside the house, it’s so useful in there. you,” Stretch jabbed a slender finger at him, “you’re going to use it all day tomorrow, right? no bitching, either.”
Edge didn’t bother pointing out that it was highly likely he wouldn’t be doing much walking at all tomorrow, certainly not out of their home. Tomorrow would be full of questioning and paperwork, so many things that would need to be done. But first, they needed to finish off the night before dawn took it.
“Of course,” he agreed. He allowed Stretch to pull an arm over his shoulders, ostensibly to help him inside, but it wasn’t his leg that needed Stretch’s assistance.
His soul pulsed in his chest softly, settling at the feel of Stretch close to him, leading them both into their house, and when they finally slept that night, it was on the sofa rather than their bed, both of them freshly washed and with a cooking show playing softly in the background.
Lying together, Edge was acting the part of smaller spoon to Stretch’s larger one, and if Stretch guessed the position was one that put Edge closer to the door, he didn’t say. His face was buried into the back of Edge’s neck, his breath damp and even. Edge drifted on the borders of sleep, listening more to that quiet breathing than whatever the chef on the screen was saying.
“I can’t lose you.” The words escaped him, said to no one at all, less a statement and more a vow, a promise offered in the early morning light. I can’t, he thought to himself as he drifted, barely hearing the sleepy murmur in return.
“you won’t, babe. ’m not goin’ anywhere.”
Soothed, Edge let sleep claim him, trusting that he was safely caught up in the embrace of both slumber and his love.

Random thoughts.
So i replayed BOTW a while ago for the first time and decided to write down some of the random thoughts that i get while exploring Hyrule, here they are.
… A lot of these things gave me some fanfic ideas and I hope that they will do the same for someone more competent.
It's realty in character that the response to being asked why you took the man's torch is either to bludgeon things to death with it or to be a pyromaniac.
When the tower pedestal shines, Link instinctively leans back for a second before diving right back in because curiosity kills the cat.
The message from the slate/tower is to watch out for falling rocks which either means that
1: zelda is writing them (and has a fair bit of free reign still).
2: the ancient Sheikah could see the future.
3: Ai to the likes of Fi.
Ganon kinda reawakens when the towers are up so maybe he was resting and building a body until he was interrupted here, which could be why his form later is such a hodgepodge of the Blights?.
Link is not too naive since he kinda clamps up in his answers to the totally unimportant old man.
Did Link briefly make eye-contact with the camera when he got the spirit orb!?
Link is a bit freaked out in his "How did you know!?" Response cas now he knows something major is up when the old man directly mentions the spirit orb.
Again, in character that you can choose to be an impatient brat with the "paraglider please?" Or inquisitive when Roam points out the slate.
Either run out of temper with the "that wasn't the deal!" Or be resigned with "so I need more now?" When the old fart sends you off to the other three shrines.
Ohh, another adrenaline junkie option with the "got it!" Over climbing the tower for a good view or a Deadpan "are you joking?".
"Or so i heard quite some time ago.. I do not know if it actually works as such" so they did not get teleporting to work before? or he just didn't learn how it was done.
So the monks, according to how the Triforce signs they held, apparently associate Power with Magnesis, Wisdom with bombs, Stability with stasis and Courage with cryonis?
The monks dissipate into green specks like Ganon’s soul does under the castle!
I'm not into men but damn if Link doesn't look good in the Warm Doublet.
Oh. My. God, he was King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule!!!!!
Link is such a dumbass, you get to ask Kass "are you a ...bird?" As if the man isn't standing right in front of you. No shit Sherlock! What next, is that a recorder?.
OhhohoHO! You either say "no(, i have not heard of them)" or "Ancient songs?" As if you do not initially realize why they are thought to be ancient which either is old memories warring with the now world or Link not realizing what impact The Calamity had on culture.

When Manny mentions that his job is checking for beauties/sus people you can either be a dumb dunce and ask about the said beauties or a little menace with "sounds though".
Manny is an Incel, talks a big game and puts himself on top of a pedestal alongside being demanding and a creep.
Does Hateno not have a goddess shrine? Just the ~Evil~ one?
There is a pair of rusty knights sword and shield by the leftmost part of the walkway of Fort Hateno. Some knight probably died laying there, watching out over the field of guardians having been/being purged by Zelda.
A traveler (Chelessa) is interested in history and wants to question Impa about it, and is on her way to do so in fact. . Describes her personality as very pleasant, that must be wrong.
The Yiga know exactly how Links first waking moments played out so either they have extensive knowledge about his character and the setup of the Shrine Of Resurrection or Ganon was watching in on Zelda's call and relayed it to a minion in the clan.
"Hero boy" - derogatory.
Arrow in the eye of the bridge at the entrance of Kakariko, the Yiga are petty and I love it.
Piano's (the painter) hair bun thing that is styled like a pencil has paint on the tip... this man painted with his hair.
So the great fairy Cotera makes it sound like she will enchant your gear because you rejuvenated her, not because you bring the materials to do the enchanting.
The levels of enchantment seemingly depends on physical closeness to the Fairy (blow< indirect kiss< kiss < sex)
She can not enchant beyond Lv 1 without her sister's help, so they share power?
Paya specifies that they have watched over the Orb since the grandmother of the grandmother of Impa, that's 9 whole generations of long lived Sheikah! roughly 1000 years of recorded history!
Again with Link being a dense Shonen protagonist with "where is it?" Or a sly bastard with "really, though?"... maybe so that she would want to prove it ;)
…”I'll answer you some day, just not today!”
Either Paya is just not ready for that or she is so nervous that she did not think about the fact that her own grandmother was in the room when she said it!
“Served the royal family in secret” so it's not common knowledge that the royals have a village of Magic ninjas!? No wonder it took a damn demon to topple it instead of rebellion or infighting... probably has been like this since the old old king banished 'em.
"The royal family was destroyed, and the members of our tribe scattered."- okay so it was probably some Sheikah that either thought the royal family was completely extinct and either fled or, according to this next bit- "Sadly, there were some who swore allegiance to Ganon at that time. They joined together as the Yiga Clan, seeking out all who opposed Ganon... cutting them down, one after another."
So from that we get to know that not all Sheikah deserters became enemies (unless the Sheikah dislike defectors enough to hunt them down) and others who either joined an existing opposing group or simply up and created the Yiga clan that then aligned itself with Ganon... probably under either the belief that Hylia's line was extinct and that it was join or die or because they wished to spite the goddess and her followers.
I actually like this way more because it makes no sense that the Yiga could survive before the Calamity when the Royals would have an entire damn country and anbu black-ops to hunt them down with.
"Master link, now that you are awake, you are surely the most formidable opponent standing against them!" Either hero worship or the Sheikah are freshly out on capable warriors with Ninja magic tricks, probably the latter which would explain why the world isn't infested with Lynels or why hynoxes haven't just trampled every settlement.
"No doubt they will come for you, employing whatever underhanded methods they can device"
oh come on! Do not tell me that i'm stuck with the goodie two shoe ninja clan!? Underhandedness is your bread and butter! No wonder you served the royals in secret because you and them by proxy would have been a laughingstock otherwise!!!
"The great fairy Cotera... few remain who know that this village was built under her watchful eye." So the village is fairy new and the Yiga came about before Kakariko or it is old and so well protected that they can't get in... at least not easily.
"The mysterious power of Cotera is that of sacred protection..." so the Great fairies are linked to either Hylia or the gods, good to know.
So it’s not that Cotera “-would be happy to help” but, instead “i can't think of any reason why she wouldn't be happy to help you”. so either she only directly helps men or the earlier "you can put your trust in the great fairy" means that she judges more favorably for the chosen hero.
"I heard that the weather is going to be beautifully tomorrow... to bad you won't be alive to enjoy it"
So they have weather accurate~ich prediction? through magic or old time methods?
Again: Hero boy - derogatory... It's a common nickname for Link within the Yiga.
The lush green shrine could tell that a buck was on it, so the platforms are most definitely scanners.
A travelers sword by a campfire at the foot of mount Lanayru, so someone either took a swim and died to the Lizardfo, dramatically quit or got killed in their sleep.
Love the effect when you have metal weapons on the ground and swing a ThunderBlade!

There is one usable room in the citadel.
There is no compendium slot for the malice eyes that litter Naydra, Hyrule Castle and the Divine Beasts.
You can change the element of already elemental slime, not just the neutral kind.
Those head-spitting fuckers inside the divine beasts! They are partially reanimating mobs! So it's not that the Blood Moon is the time where Ganon is at his strongest, it's just where he chooses to revive everything.
The edge of duality can also be found in the shrine at the top of the dueling peaks.

The European Space Agency (ESA) and Kerbal Space Program have come together to bring you brand new content, including the ESA space-suit texture, new parts and variants, and two of their most iconic and groundbreaking missions into the game. Gear up, fuel up and prepare to share horizons with ESA and KSP!
Kerbal Space Program 1.10: Shared Horizons is the game’s latest major update aimed to continue with our efforts to enrich the KSP experience. Build a kerbalized version of the renowned and powerful Ariane 5 heavy launch vehicle, visit comets and push the limits of space exploration with a host of new additions to the game that not only will give you more things to do, but also make the game look and perform better with a bunch of bug fixes and quality of life improvements.

ESA Missions
Thanks to our collaboration with ESA, put yourself to the test and carry out KSP versions of the historic BepiColombo and Rosetta missions! Drop a lander module on the surface of a comet and visit the innermost planet of the solar system to study its magnetosphere and surface characteristics, all in the name of science. Best of all, the Making History and Breaking Ground expansions are not required to play these missions!
Comets
In order to make the Rosetta mission possible, comets now roam the Kerbal Solar System. With beautiful tails and larger dimensions than regular asteroids, comets appear in all game modes and you can take on new career mode contracts to detect and visit them. Be vigilant, because you might even see one that is passing through from interstellar space!
New Parts and Variants
Kerbal Space Program 1.10: Shared Horizons includes several new parts and variants to match ESA’s style! Decorate your vehicles with a variety of flag parts that can be attached to your liking, take the brand new Magnetometer Boom along with the MTO and MPO to carry out scientific experiments on Moho or beyond, or capture asteroids and comets with the Advanced Grabbing Unit Jr., a smaller and versatile version of the “Klaw”. Additionally, there are also new variants of some tanks, SRBs, the “Poodle” Liquid Fuel Engine, and decouplers; plus, fairings have not only new variants, but some updated functionality as well.

God Plays Dice with the Universe
Day Two (October 8th - Tuesday): Crossovers and Fusions
Would you like to see Klaroline in the universe of your favorite movie, TV show or book? This is the day for the traditional Harry Potter AUs or for you to really go out there and surprise us. Be either having canon(ish) TVD universe coexisting with another or Klaus and Caroline as belonging only to this completely different universe (Westeros? Middle Earth? The Upper East Side?)… It’s all up for you to decide!
Author’s Note: I decided to play with the concept of The Gamer from a Korean Manhwa/Web Comic. And it’s a bit of crack on a cracker at the beginning.

When Caroline turned 10 something rather odd happened to her. It had been a completely average morning like any other before it, except for one little thing. Upon opening her eyes she had been greeted by a floating panel declaring in boldfaced type:
WELCOME TO THE GAME, CAROLINE FORBES!
There had been much confusion to say the least. The young Caroline had gone on to read the additional text explaining she was something known as “The Gamer,” the title of a power granted to her by Gaia.
Frankly, this had only served to make her more confused. Perhaps the logistics of it all would have been more clear had she been the type to play tabletop games, but all she knew of those was the popular one people sometimes spoke of. A Caves & Critters?
Anyway, she was thankful it came with a tutorial and a help menu. Her power also seemed far less strange when it revealed to her some other secrets in the world around her. For instance, the first time she used the ‘Observe’ skill she learned the following:

Title: The Sheriff
Description: Elizabeth Forbes is the Sheriff of Mystic Falls and a member of one of the Founding Families by marriage. She is aware of the Founder’s Council secret purpose to protect the town from ???.
Needless to say Caroline hadn’t let those question marks stay questions for long. Which was how she came to learn the Bennetts were witches, the Lockwoods werewolves, and the weird hermit Zach Salvatore was maybe not so crazy with his vampire relatives. Vampires that the Council apparently hunted.
...Seriously?!
But after some pointed questions and careful cover stories. Yeah, the Gilberts have some wild stories in their ancestor’s journals, crazy right? Caroline went on with her life as normal - erm more or less - taking ruthless advantage of her actually quite useful power.
Needed blackmail? Easy, with some judicial use of ‘Observe.’ Head cheerleader? Work her butt off to get those two more points in Dexterity and one more in Strength and Constitution. Aiming for Valedictorian? Her Intelligence stat was 17 (out of 20, excuse you!).
It also did wonders for her teenaged self-esteem to learn the great Elena was a doppelgänger i.e. a copy. Ha! Take that, Caroline was an original, thank you very much!
Now, things became a bit more turbulent when those vampire Salvatores strolled back into town. They were Trouble, with a capital ‘T,’ and Caroline was staying out of that mess. She gave her mom a head’s up and kept an eye on her, but minded her own goddamn business. She did not need that in her life.
Just watching Elena run around with them was exhausting. Adding in Bonnie’s witch heritage revelation, secret tomb vampires, and the vampire doppelgänger to the mix really didn’t help.

Then, of course her teacher had to end up possessed, and there went her smooth sailing...

Caroline fiddled with her pen, spinning it with her fingers as her mind raced, finalizing the setup for the Decade Dance. Each decoration had its place and she was running through the schematic she would be handing to each volunteer one last time. It had to be perfect, after all!
Detect Danger Activated
Warning max level character in vicinity. Threat Level: High.
Her pen spun a little faster as she processed that information, thoughts immediately switching gears. What the hell? She lazily glanced around the classroom, feigning disinterest as everyone’s names and levels came up normal.
And then Alaric walked in and she nearly dropped her pen.

Caroline spent the rest of the class uncharacteristically quiet as she pondered what to do. She had only overhead bits and pieces about someone named Klaus. Presumably Klaus being this guy, Niklaus.
She was a bit chagrined to realize she had gotten cocky, and that it was now biting her in the ass. She needed more information and she needed it yesterday.

Thanks to her powers, Caroline had a shockingly high number of resources available to her. And after spending a cringe worthy amount of hard earned money in the Abyss Auction to purchase Supernatural: The Origin of Species, she was cursing herself for not doing so sooner.
Obscenely powerful. Cunning. A predilection for violence.
Not things she wanted within the same state as her mom let alone the same town.
She bit her lip, contemplating a potentially very stupid decision.

Knock Knock Knock
Klaus straightened from where he had been looming over Katerina, having been taking sadistic delight in giving her “orders.” It was all the sweeter that she willingly obeyed, believing he was unaware of the vervain on her breath.
He cocked his head, listening to the very human heartbeat on the other side of the door, one he was fully prepared to ignore until a voice accompanied the next series of knocks.
“Klaus, I wish to speak with you.”

Caroline took a bracing breath as the door swung open. A tiny piece of her mind goggled at his looks, but that voice was shoved down in favor of analysis and planning.

Her ‘Observe’ skill was already active, as she categorized and tried extremely hard to remain unfazed by his utterly obscene stat levels. Simultaneously, the world around them appeared to crack as she pulled them to an empty dimensional plane, her own body in yet another dimension.
And just in time as Klaus lunged for her throat only to phase through her.
In an incomprehensible blur, Klaus flashed back around to face her, his expression disturbingly calm considering his eyes seethed.
“Sweetheart, this is supremely unwise.” His voice near hissed on the last word.
“I can break your curse!” She blurted out before he could become anymore agitated.
Thankfully, he calmed. Unfortunately, he looked condescendingly amused instead.
“You are a bit late if you wished to win my favor, love.”
This time it was Caroline’s turn to scowl.
“I don’t want your favor, I want you to not massacre my town!”
“Apologies, love, but I’m afraid that’s not on the agenda. I have my werewolf, my vampire, and at long last my doppelgänger and I am ready to break this curse.”
“And if I told you I could do it without all the death?”
His lips quirked even as his eyes darkened. “That’s quite impossible.”
Caroline scoffed. “Yeah, just like vampire-werewolf hybrids are supposed to be impossible.” She hurried her speech before he could react to her flippancy. “And just like your ability to make more hybrids if you kill, Elena.”
Any trace of mockery vanished from his face, replaced once more by menace. “Now, whyever would you believe such a thing as that?”
“Because it’s the truth! There’s a failsafe that the witches added to your curse so even if you did break it eventually, you would be incapable of creating more of your kind.”
He stalked closer, succeeding in slightly unnerving her even when he still couldn’t touch her. “I suppose I should just take you at your word, hm?”
Caroline swallowed and daringly extended her now corporeal hand. “With your permission, I can break your curse here and now, as I said I could. Then, you can judge for yourself.”
His eyes glanced from her face to her hand, narrowed and nearly black. And then he reached his own hand out to tuck a curl behind her ear, the heat of him startling as he lingered.
“I remember you now, Caroline Forbes. Let me assure you that should this be a trick of any kind the lovely sheriff will be my first stop.”
With sheer will, Caroline prevented all but a twitch of her hand in reaction. Her face like stone as she said, “You’ve made yourself quite clear. Now, your permission?”
“So granted.”
Alaric’s apartment blurred in her vision. The Instant Dungeon shattering with the last of her energy
HP: 1 SP: 0 MP: 0
Status Condition: Extreme Exhaustion
The last thing Caroline saw as she collapsed was Klaus’ golden eyes and dual fangs.

Power surged through Klaus’ body and he could feel the difference in his fangs, in his eyes. Heard the howl of his Wolf in his blood for the first time in a millennium.
It took negligible effort for him to catch the blonde as she fell, cradling her body to his chest with one arm.
He peered down at her and reached for her with his other hand. But instead of a threat, shocking gentleness and a bit of awe infused his gesture as he once more brushed a loose lock from her cheek.
Silently, the renewed Hybrid turned on his heel, moving to set the blonde on his borrowed bed. Absently snapping Katerina’s neck as he passed. As he settled into a chair, Klaus faced the bed and contemplated his newfound golden fascination.
“It seems we will a lot to discuss, sweetheart.”

PS I didn’t mention it, but Caroline helped Sheila so she didn’t die. It would be OOC for her to have not helped if lives were on the line, but it didn’t really fit into the text.

Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara
Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara was released by Capcom in 1996 as a sequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom.
Fusing a side-scrolling beat 'em up with RPG elements: D&D allows you to find and equip gear plus new spells as you gain experience. Each character has a large variety of weapons and armor, and there is an extensive assortment of magical and hidden items in the game, many of which are completely unknown to exist to the typical video gamer.
This, along with the addition of multiple endings and forking paths, gives the game much re-playability and has led to a cult following among fans of the genre.
It was one of the last 2-D arcade side-scrollers created by Capcom; only Battle Circuit (1997) came after Shadow over Mystara.
The controls use four buttons: Attack, Jump, Select (brings up a small inventory ring around the character allowing the player to choose what item is set in the Use slot) and Use. The Cleric, Elf and Magic-User also have two extra rings for their spells, with the jump button used to switch from ring to ring.
Special moves are executed by moving the joystick and tapping the buttons in certain combinations, in a way similar to the Street Fighter series. The characters (except for the Magic-User) have a Dashing Attack as well as a Rising Attack which can be used to combo monsters or even juggle them in the air.
In between stages players find themselves inside small town stores. Treasure is used to buy items in shops, including weapons and equipment.

Shadow over Mystara contains a system which allows the players to name their characters. Abusing this system involves typing a space as the first character of the name, followed by a long string of repeated letters which causes the game to become incredibly glitched, giving players powerful items from the start. This exploit also has a nasty side effect of an incredible amount of visual bugs (flickering + missing sprites, mistakes in the text) and often causes the game to reboot, or worse, totally freeze up. Arcade owners, unaware that the players themselves were the cause of the problem, would often shut down the machine for repair or simply remove the game completely. Gamers on the internet (who even had internet in 1996??) aware of these consequences, would often refuse to post instructions on how to activate the glitch. Revision 2 of the game prevented the use of this bug.

This title has been very well received. In 2011, GameSpy ranked it #50 on their list of the top arcade games, calling it "one of the most purely entertaining titles ever released for any platform."
In 2013, it was ranked as the 18th top beat 'em up video game of all time byHeavy.com, and included among the best looking beat 'em up games from the 16-bit era by Kotaku. Retro Gamer ranked it as the 16th top retro arcade game. IGN ranked Shadow Over Mystara No. 9 on their list of "The Top 11 Dungeons & Dragons Games of All Time" in 2014.
