💙 Prometheus Fics I Adore 💙

Just here to share some Prometheus (Alien) fics I love to re-read. 😌

Forbidden Gifts by Ardath_Rekha On Ao3 (Has not been finished) - This fic actually has the Last Engineer x Elizabeth Shaw ship! It's such an extreme rare-pair, and it's very well done! I love this ship with my whole heart, istg. - The bridging done between the prequels & the main film is interesting, and the whole story takes you on such a journey. The only thing I remember of reading this the first time was that it was a perfect vibe for mid-winter. - I won't spoil anything, but it does something really interesting with David's character, so for any David sympathizers (*cough cough* @elecctromechanika ) this one's pretty fun! - Is super internal-dialogue centered, and I love it for that! - Just as a note: there is a sex scene in here, but the author warns you thoroughly, and you can skip it if you please.

Those Whom Fortune Favors + Intrepid by JShale on Ao3 (Intrepid isn't finished, but the first one is!) - Those Whom Fortune Favors doesn't need much artistic liberty when going in, as it keeps the same isolated feeling & story as the movie. - Elizabeth's characterization is so fucking on-point. It's always the little things that make each character so distinct from one another, and makes them layered. - Intrepid is basically TWFF, but from the Last Engineer's P.O.V. & adds really interesting perspective I think I needed to recognize how severely a language barrier can warp your perception of a character.

Alone by @wingedmidnight on Ao3 (My apologies if you don't want to be tagged! I'll get rid of whatever upon request. :3) - This fic is OC & David centered, but I love it a lot because of that. It's a very interesting take, seeing the world through a different human's eyes while exploring the weird world of Alien. - David also doesn't turn out to be a creepy little murder machine! No war crimes here. Love that for him. - If you don't like shipping, romance, or sexual tension (the latter of which happens in the both of the above listed, seemingly only on Shaw's side in TWFF-) this one's better suited! - The world building is so creative! Not just in environment, but in the personalities and culture of the Engineers. - Not finished, but I don't mind. I love re-reading it either way.

Curiosity is a Virtue by MewMidnight fanfiction.net (Is also not finished) - There's definitely Elizabeth x Engineer stuff in here, but I'm a little less focused on that. There's also like... one chapter of smut, but it can be easily avoided, if that's not to your taste. - Shaw is as curious as she always is here, constantly seeking answers. - I enjoy the little chunks of world-building in here, but it's mostly funny to watch the other Engineers gawk over Shaw and David the whole time. - CiaV is a far lighter read by comparison, for multiple reasons. It's just such a nice ride.

Figured I'd make this list to give a bit of love (and life) back into this niche corner of the Alien fandom! I hope you give at least one of these a try, and happy reading! 💙

Chemical A0-3959X.91 – 15 (aka "Prometheus Fire" or "black goo"), developed by the Engineers and first introduced in Prometheus, was both a lethal pathogen and a powerful mutating agent. As Alien: The Roleplaying Game puts it: "any living thing that comes into direct contact with the black goo will either die horribly, give birth to monsters, or become a monster themselves." The prevailing theory is that black goo's purpose is for use by Engineers to cleanse planets of unwanted biological life forms. Earth was the target for cleansing in Prometheus before the plan was stopped by human visitors to LV-223. Don't goof around with THIS goo… on Sci-Fi Saturday!!

I find in very intriguing how the last Engineer of LV-223 actually decides to hear Weyland out before committing any violence. He genuinely gave him a chance, even if there's probably a good reason as to why he's a military man, and not a diplomat. 😅

I also love how fanfic authors interpret that scene, especially if it's from the Engineer's POV.

Speaking of which, I need to share some good Prometheus fics! I've gotten back into my fav niche fanfic space, and I plan on sharing the few things I find. 👀

Hé lộ bất ngờ về BMS - Công ty thổi giá thiết bị ở Bệnh viện Bạch Mai

Doanh thu hàng trăm tỷ đóng thuế hơn 100 triệu đồng

BMS đăng ký kinh doanh 26 ngành nghề, với đủ các thể loại như: Bán buôn máy móc, sửa chữa thiết bị điện tử, sản xuất thiết bị y tế, bán lẻ thuốc, đại lý đấu giá hàng hóa, bán lẻ ô tô, sản xuất điện,….

Ban đầu, Chủ tịch kiêm đại diện pháp luật tại đây là Phạm Đức Tuấn (sinh năm 1979). Sau khi Tuấn bị khởi tố, bắt giam, vào ngày 3/9/2020, công ty này có quyết định bổ nhiệm bà Phạm Thị Thanh Thủy (chị ruột Phạm Đức Tuấn) giữ chức vụ Giám đốc kiêm người đại diện pháp luật. Người ký quyết định này là bà Cao Thị Chuyên (mẹ của Phạm Đức Tuấn và Phạm Thị Thanh Thủy).

Theo dữ liệu của phóng viên, doanh thu của công ty tăng liên tục từ năm 2016 đến nay: cụ thể năm 2016 đạt 505 tỷ, sang năm 2017 tăng lên 685 tỷ và 2 năm gần nhất đạt 733 tỷ và 752 tỷ đồng. Tuy vậy, BMS lại báo cáo mức lợi nhuận thấp đến mức khó tin, chỉ hơn 100 triệu đồng mỗi năm: năm 2016 và 2017 đạt 100 triệu đồng, năm 2018 đạt 130 triệu và 2019 đạt 180 triệu đồng.

Tại thời điểm cuối năm 2019, tổng tài sản và vốn chủ sở hữu của BMS đạt lần lượt là 419 tỷ và 92 tỷ đồng (vốn điều lệ 80 tỷ).

Trên sàn chứng khoán hiện có 2 doanh nghiệp kinh doanh thiết bị y tế, liên kết đầu tư với bệnh viện tương tự BMS là CTCP Thiết bị Y tế Việt Nhật (JVC) và CTCP Sản xuất kinh doanh dược và Trang thiết bị Y tế Việt Mỹ (AMV).

JVC từng có kết quả kinh doanh rất tốt cho đến khi xảy ra biến cố với cựu chủ tịch HĐQT Lê Văn Hướng. Trong khi đó, AMV sau khi được tái cấu trúc hướng vào hoạt động kinh doanh thiết bị y tế 2 năm gần đây đã ghi nhận kết quả rất ấn tượng.

Năm 2018, AMV ghi nhận 461 tỷ doanh thu và 219 tỷ lợi nhuận; con số tương ứng của năm 2019 là 518 tỷ và 223 tỷ - tức tỷ suất lợi nhuận ròng lên đến 40-50%.

Công ty gia đình bao sân thiết bị y tế

Ngoài BMS, doanh nhân sinh năm 1979 Phạm Đức Tuấn còn sở hữu ba công ty khác là Công ty TNHH Enegry and Life Value (viết tắt E&LV), CTCP Đầu tư Tuấn Ngọc Minh (viết tắt Tuan Ngoc Minh JSC) và CTCP Khoa học Công nghệ mới BMS (viết tắt BMS New). E&LV được thành lập vào tháng 3 vừa qua, đăng ký hoạt động chính trong lĩnh vực sản xuất vật tư y tế với vốn điều lệ 20 tỷ đồng, giám đốc là ông Phạm Đức Tuấn.

Còn BMS New chỉ mới được thành lập vào ngày 15/7/2020 hoạt động chủ yếu trong mảng bán buôn máy móc. Công ty này có số vốn 80 tỷ đồng, cổ đông sáng lập gồm: Cao Thị Chuyên (nắm 36,8% VĐL), Phạm Đức Tuấn (nắm 62,5% VĐL) và Phạm Hồng Nghĩa (0,625%). Trong đó ông Phạm Hồng Nghĩa chính là bố ruột của Phạm Đức Tuấn và ngoài BMS New, ông Nghĩa còn là Giám đốc của CTCP Y tế Thành Ân (vốn điều lệ 11 tỷ đồng).

Riêng đối với Tuan Ngoc Minh JSC, công ty này ra đời vào cuối năm 2008, trụ sở đặt tại quận Tây Hồ, Hà Nội. Vốn điều lệ ban đầu của công ty này đạt 1,5 tỷ đồng, cổ đông sáng lập gồm: Cao Thị Chuyên (mẹ Phạm Đức Tuấn, nắm giữ 16,67% vốn điều lệ), Phạm Đức Tuấn (66,67%) và Phạm Hồng Nghĩa (16,67%).

Tại ngày 26/11/2018, vốn điều lệ công ty này đã ở mức 50 tỷ đồng, Giám đốc kiêm đại diện pháp luật là ông Phạm Đức Tuấn.

Liên quan đến hệ sinh thái của nhóm doanh nghiệp này còn có Công ty TNHH Trang thiết bị Y tế BMS. Công ty này có trụ sở đặt tại quận 10, TP.HCM. Chủ tịch HĐQT kiêm đại diện pháp luật tại đây là bà Phạm Thị Thanh Thủy.

Thổi giá thiết bị từ 7,4 tỷ lên 39 tỷ

Trước đó, ngày, 1/9, C03 đã khởi tố vụ án "Lừa đảo chiếm đoạt tài sản" xảy ra tại Bệnh viện Bạch Mai, Công ty BMS và các đơn vị có liên quan.

Đồng thời, C03 ra các quyết định khởi tố bị can, lệnh khám xét, lệnh bắt bị can để tạm giam đối với Phạm Đức Tuấn (SN 1979), Chủ tịch HĐQT, Giám đốc Công ty BMS và Ngô Thị Thu Huyền (SN 1983), Phó Giám đốc Công ty BMS; quyết định khởi tố bị can, lệnh khám xét, lệnh cấm đi khỏi nơi cư trú đối với Trần Lê Hoàng (SN 1978), Thẩm định viên Công ty VFS.

Các bị can nêu trên đều bị khởi tố về tội "Lừa đảo chiếm đoạt tài sản" quy định tại Điều 174 Bộ luật Hình sự năm 2015, sửa đổi, bổ sung năm 2017.

Tối 4/9, trả lời báo chí tại cuộc họp chí thường kỳ Chính phủ, Thiếu tướng Tô Ân Xô, Chánh Văn phòng - Người phát ngôn của cho hay kết quả điều tra bước đầu C03 xác định một số cá nhân ở Công ty BMS và Công ty VFS có hành vi câu kết nâng khống giá trị hệ thống thiết bị y tế, chiếm đoạt tiền của người bệnh tại Bệnh viện Bạch Mai (Hà Nội).

Cụ thể, trong quá trình lắp đặt hệ thống robot hỗ trợ thần kinh, theo tờ khai hải quan ghi nhận nhập khẩu hệ thống robot hỗ trợ thần kinh có giá trị khoảng 7,4 tỷ đồng, bao gồm cả VAT.

Tuy nhiên, các đối tượng này đã câu kết với nhau nâng giá của hệ thống lên 39 tỷ đồng, được hợp thức bằng chứng thư thẩm định giá không có giá trị pháp lý, đưa vào hợp đồng liên doanh, liên kết với Bệnh viện Bạch Mai.

"Giá của hệ thống robot là 7,4 tỷ đồng, chi phí khấu hao máy 1 ca bệnh là hơn 4 triệu đồng. Với giá họ khai là 39 tỷ đồng thì người bệnh phải chi trả chi phí khấu hao máy là 23 triệu đồng/ca", Thiếu tướng Xô nhấn mạnh.

Cũng theo ông Tô Ân Xô, trong các năm từ 2017-2019, Bệnh viện Bạch Mai đã thanh toán 550 ca, số tiền chênh lệch được các đối tượng hưởng lợi là trên 10 tỷ đồng. Hiện nay, C03, đang tập trung điều tra, làm rõ các hành vi vi phạm của các bị can, mở rộng điều tra tìm ra sai phạm của các tổ chức, cá nhân liên quan để xử lý nghiêm theo quy định của pháp luật.

Reflections on Ancient Astronauts in Prometheus

Ridley Scott's highly anticipated Alien prequel Prometheus promised to answer the questions Alien fans had been asking about the origins of the famous Xenomorphs since the release of Alien in 1979. Unfortunately, cinema goers will have to wait for the sequel as the film asks more questions than it answers. Audiences might have gotten some tentative answers about the evolution of the Alien, but they were left wondering about mankind's own origin. We can, however, look to other films that have explored the ancient astronaut theory to find some possible answers.

In a viral video released to promote Scott's return to the universe of space jockeys and chest-bursters, a young Peter Wayland, the founder and CEO of Weyland Corp, gives a presentation at the TED conference in the year 2023. During his talk the corporate chief lists mankind's greatest discoveries and inventions, culminating with the creation of "cybernetic individuals" who we're told in just a few short years will be indistinguishable from us. "We are the Gods now", Weyland boasts at the end.

The TED 2023 video sets up audiences for the events of Prometheus, in which in 2090 a human crew are sent to LV-223 to investigate the theory that humans were created by an unknown extraterrestrial species thousands of years ago.

Oddly paralleling the UFO research, after the opening credits two archaeologists discover a cave painting in Scotland of a star map that resembles the one drawn in real life by Betty Hill after recalling her alien abduction experience from 1961. This might just be a coincidence, however, Marjorie Fish has interrupted the Betty Hill star map as showing the double star system of Zeta Reticuli, which is the same star system where the Prometheus crew journey to in search of mankind's creators. Although, the name of the solar system is never stated in Prometheus, it is mentioned by the character Lambert in the original Alien.

The biggest problem with Prometheus is that the purpose the alien "engineers" had for creating humans is never revealed, although we are told they intended to wipe out all life on Earth before they either changed their minds or were interrupted at the last minuet. The closest we get to an answer as to why the "Gods" created mankind is when Mr Weyland's android son David asks one of the crewmen why did humans create artificial humans like himself. The answer "because we could" is as disappointing as it is scary.

The ancient astronaut theory, of course, is nothing new, especially in science fiction. Before Eric Von Daniken's 1968 best-seller Chariots of the Gods? popularised the theory that Earth had been visited by extraterrestrials back in pre-history, science fiction writers like Arthur C. Clarke and Nigel Kneale were exploring this idea in fiction.

In 2001: A Space Odyssey, the film begins with a tribe of apemen being visited by a mysterious black monolith. After touching the alien object the apeman tribe begins to develop new skills and intelligence. This is shown by the apeman leader Moon-Watcher picking up a bone and using it as a club. In a documentary about the making of 2001 to mark the film's 30th anniversary, Arthur C. Clarke explained that he and the director Stanley Kubrick had intended the strange artifact to be a kind of teaching machine: "The Monolith was essentially a teaching machine. In fact our original idea was to have something with a transparent screen on which images would appear, which would teach the apes how to fight each other, how to maybe even make fire. But that was much too naive an idea. So eventually we just bypassed it with a device which we didn't explain ... but they just touched it, and things happened to their brains, and they were transformed."

Clarke also explains in the same documentary the meaning of the famous scene when Moon-Watcher throws the bone weapon he invents into the air and the scene shifts to a satellite orbiting Earth in the year 2001. According to the inventor of the communications satellite, the spacecraft orbiting Earth is a nuclear weapon. The message being that the same intelligence that gave humans the ability to go into space can also be used to destroy ourselves before we journey into outer space.

Apemen were also the target of ancient alien manipulation in Nigel Kneale's third Quatermass story, Quatermass and The Pit. Originally a six part story broadcast live on the BBC between December 1959 and January 1958, the story centres around the discovery of a mysterious "unexploded bomb" at an archaeological dig in London. Found near the remains of apemen with unusually large skulls, the object is in fact a Martian spaceship that had been sent to Earth to return several apemen to the planet after they had been augmented. Going one step beyond 2001, the reason the aliens had for altering the apemen is given in Quatermass and The Pit. With their own race doomed by an environmental cataclysm on Mars, the aliens intended the apemen to be their successors. In the words of Quatermass: "It would be a way of possessing the Earth. Only a colony by proxy, but better than leaving nothing at all behind."

Another interesting parallel between Clarke's 2001 and Nigel Kneale's Quatermass and The Pit is that that the increased intelligence of the apemen has potentially catastrophic results. In 2001 the very first tool Moon-Watcher creates is used as a weapon to club another apeman to death, and millions of years later mankind uses its intelligence to put nuclear weapons in orbit. Paralleling this, Quatermass and The Pit begins with Professor Quatermass condemning a government plan to put similar weapons in space. Might this have been the reason for the "engineers" in Prometheus wanting to wipe us out, were they afraid of what humans might do once they began to develop more sophisticated weapons than bone clubs? In Ufology the explosion of the first atomic bomb in 1945 is often suggested as a reason why aliens might be visiting Earth, but if Scott's "engineers" had similar concerns about the course human technology was taking towards destruction, then why then didn't they go ahead with their planned annihilation of all life on Earth?

Again a possible explanation might be found in Kneale's Quatemass and The Pit. In that film the reason the aliens are unable to finish their colonisation of Earth is because the Martians, obsessed with a hatred for nonconformity and anything different, wipe themselves out in a race war first.

Prometheus ends with the archaeologist Elizabeth Shaw and the decapitated head of the android David setting course for the home world of the "engineers". Will they find a dead planet with only hints of the civilisation that once existed there in the proposed sequel to the prequel? We will have to wait for Scott to finish his long awaited Blade Runner sequel, another film that asks questions about the nature of God, to find out.

Whether any of these films are some form of UFO disclosure or disinformation effort, or simply the product of imaginative minds... I'll leave that for another column, though.
