Newcastle City Centre is bursting at the seams with culture, heritage and the beautiful River Tyne with its abundance of bridges. With entertainment for all ages, cultural attractions, picturesque parks and the coast only a short drive or tube journey away – Newcastle is the perfect destination for a weekend away.

You’ll be spoilt for choice for hotels in Newcastle City Centre but if you’re after something a little bit different, that’s where Honeypot House comes in. Honeypot House is far more than just an accommodation choice; it’s an experience you’ll never forget. Located in the heart of Newcastle’s famous Bigg Market, nestled above Newcastle’s iconic Beehive pub, Honeypot House is home to 5 themed apartments.

You can choose between the Wild West-themed Toon Saloon (with it’s own self service bar) and Butch Cassidy’s Bunkhouse, the effortlessly photogenic Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter’s Tea Room and Through The Looking Glass apartment and the ultimate in luxury, the Loft penthouse apartment.

We we’re kindly gifted the “Through The Looking Glass” apartment for a weekend star (Friday – Sunday)and what an impression it left. If you know me, you’ll know Alice in Wonderland is one of my all time favourite books so upon entering this apartment, I was completely blown away. The attention to detail was out of this world; which I have never seen before. You really do feel as if you’ve fallen head first down the rabbit hole and have entered Wonderland. The breath-taking backdrop of the apartment is extremely aesthetically pleasing and is perfect for those Insta-worthy pics.

  The apartment sleeps 8 and comes with 4 double beds, which are all made up for you upon arrival. There is a spacious living room with dining area and a fully equipped kitchen which even comes with a handy travel sized washing up liquid and sponge set… yes I know it’s not the most exciting thing but I thought it was quite a nice touch. In the kitchen, there was a welcome box; which was filled with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, biscuits, sweets and crisps. The little touches didn’t stop there, in the huge main bathroom which was equipped with two sinks, two showers and a sectioned off toilet, there was a dressing area that was stocked with Q-tips, cotton wool pads, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and vanity kits. The apartment came with free wifi, a widescreen TV with freeview (and the option to watch Netflix) and a wifi speaker to play your music.

The apartments are catered towards a weekend away with the girls or guys, however I brought my husband and son along and we had the best time. At first I was a bit dubious about taking my son to an apartment in the Bigg market, however this wasn’t an issue in the slightest. The location of these apartments is ideal, you’re only a short distance walk to anything and everything within Newcastle City Centre and I’d most definitely take my son there again. There was a bit of noise on an evening but this didn’t spoil our visit but, being from Newcastle and knowing the area, we anticipated the noise and didn’t faze us… my son fell straight a sleep whilst my husband and I ordered sushi to be delivered to our apartment with a few beers… oh how I miss living in the City Centre, it did make me quite nostalgic staying in the City Centre.

  I cannot recommend Honeypot House enough; its enviable location will ensure you get the most from your stay in Newcastle’s bustling City Centre. For anyone in need of a spot of retail therapy, you have Intu Eldon Square and Northumberland Street right on your doorstep, and for football fans, NUFC’s home ground, St James’ Park is just a 10 minute walk. If you’re heading to a concert at the Utilita Area, it will take you 15 minutes to walk there and only a short walk to Newcastle’s famous Quayside, with it’s famous bridges, art galleries and wealth of bars and restaurants. For any guests travelling to Newcastle by plane, it’ll take you 15 minutes in a taxi to reach Honeypot House from Newcastle International Airport or a 20 minute tube journey to Newcastle Central Station where the apartment is an additional 5 minute walk from there costing just a few pounds.

Our apartment costs around £400 per night but if you divide that between 8 guests, it really isn’t a lot and to find an apartment for £50 per person per night you’ll be lucky, especially given the quality and attention to detail of the apartment. You’ll certainly have an experience to remember at Honeypot House, so much so, you won’t want to leave your apartment. I’ll certainly be visiting again, maybe next time a weekend away with the girls…
