“It is no longer simply the merchant prince, or the aristocratic monopoly, or even the employing class, that is exploiting the world: it is the nation; a new democratic nation composed of united capital and labor. The laborers are not yet getting, to be sure, as large a share as they want or will get, and there are still at the bottom large and restless excluded classes. But the laborer’s equity is recognized, and his just share is a matter of time, intelligence, and skillful negotiation.
Such nations it is that rule the modern world. Their national bond is no mere sentimental patriotism, loyalty, or ancestor-worship. It is increased wealth, power, and luxury for all classes on a scale the world never saw before. Never before was the average citizen of England, France, and Germany so rich, with such splendid prospects of greater riches.
Whence comes this new wealth and on what does its accumulation depend? It comes primarily from the darker nations of the world—Asia and Africa, South and Central America, the West Indies and the islands of the South Seas. ... The difficulties of this imperial movement are internal as well as external. Successful aggression in economic expansion calls for a close union between capital and labor at home. Now the rising demands of the white laborer, not simply for wages but for conditions of work and a voice in the conduct of industry, make industrial peace difficult. The workingmen have been appeased by all sorts of essays in state socialism, on the one hand, and on the other hand by public threats of competition by colored labor. By threatening to send English capital to China and Mexico, by threatening to hire Negro laborers in America, as well as by old-age pensions and accident insurance, we gain industrial peace at home at the mightier cost of war abroad.
In addition to all these national war-engendering jealousies there is a more subtle movement arising from the attempt to unite labor and capital in world-wide freebooting. Democracy in economic organization, while an acknowledged ideal, is to-day working itself out by admitting to a share in the spoils of capital only the aristocracy of labor—the more intelligent and shrewder and cannier workingmen. The ignorant, unskilled, and restless still form a large, threatening, and, to a growing extent, revolutionary group in advanced countries.
The resultant jealousies and bitter hatreds tend continually to fester along the color line. We must fight the Chinese, the laborer argues, or the Chinese will take our bread and butter. We must keep Negroes in their places, or Negroes will take our jobs. All over the world there leaps to articulate speech and ready action that singular assumption that if white men do not throttle colored men, then China, India, and Africa will do to Europe what Europe has done and seeks to do to them.
On the other hand, in the minds of yellow, brown, and black men the brutal truth is clearing: a white man is privileged to go to any land where advantage beckons and behave as he pleases; the black or colored man is being more and more confined to those parts of the world where life for climatic, historical, economic, and political reasons is most difficult to live and most easily dominated by Europe for Europe’s gain."

Kill the crown: Heng the baboon intro post.
Beware, long infodump cuz I cannot help myself-
The very first celestial primate, Heng is old. No one knows how old the baboon is, not even himself.
He can remember the first human village he wandered to, the years he spent watching the humans farm and sew and pray and so many other things. He can remember the night the village was raided, burned to the ground. He can remember killing the raiders’ leader, turning him to dust with his bare hands by draining his qi— healing the gaping wound in his chest from the spear.
A fruitless effort trying to kill a stone monkey with mortal weapons.
The few survivors of that small village were terrified of him, rightfully so. He was cast out from the only home he knew, and left to wander.
He went all over, gaining knowledge of different cultures, human speech, clothes, all sorts of things as he enjoyed his explorations. Soon enough he could tell exactly how any human society would work; from India to Tibet he saw it all, and knew it all. But he was far from omniscient, and he wanted to know more about this world. The chaos and wonder all around him, how it constantly changed and how it could possibly be filled with suffering.
During his travels, he had found a demon only kingdom in the east of China dubbed “ The Eastern Kingdom of the Sun”. Ruled by the newly crowned emperor Huang Bojing and his wife… a gibbon.
During his stay, he asked about the two rulers and got the story of how they became betrothed.
How with only the palm of her hand, the gibbon Min-Yáng had beaten the former emperor in hand to hand combat— launching him out of the ring with one hit.
Heng knew the whispers of a third monkey had to be true! He had met the second monkey only once, when they crossed paths a continent over.
The strange macaque claimed to be “ the handsome monkey king”, wearing palm leaves with flowers woven into a shoddy crown, and barely modest clothing made of more woven plants.
He… just nodded along, saying he’d wish the king luck before walking away. He didn’t even know where to find immortality like the strange king asked… especially when he didn’t need such things with how he could reverse his own age.
But this, this could be different! He could cultivate a relationship with this stone ape, perhaps— even becoming her friend.
And that’s what he did.
Meeting her in person was breathtaking, both of them knowing deep down— they were the same.
They weren’t born of flesh and blood, instead of stone and spirit. They weren’t blood siblings or anything close, but that didn’t stop them from bonding like such.
Heng became a part of the royal family only months later, finally settling down within the demonic kingdom.
He had traded in days of walking for learning to read and write, slim meals after hard work for feasts every night with his new sworn-sister and her husband, and rags for silks and cotton soft to the touch.
He was home. He had a family.
He didn’t stay in the palace. Despite the luxury his sister and brother-in-law offered, he couldn’t stay in one place for long. So he went into the city, buying a home there. He didn’t stick with one job either, happy to pick up work from the butcher, or the textile shop, even the farmers.
When he became an uncle, Heng wept. Tears of joy flooded from his eyes the moment he held that little baby; looking down at a little face with a yellow face marking just like her mother’s.
Her eyes were red like Bojing’s, irises blue like her mother’s. Zhi, the first born.
Then four years later, a second child. A second girl, a copy of her mother. Ming-Yue.
Another four years later, Heng couldn’t stop his laughter when a third girl was born. Just like her father, Jiayi was brought into the world.
And finally, three years later- the last child was born. A boy, Li. Orange skin with black hair much like the patch his mother and two sisters had.
It was a wonderful life, even if the Veiled emperor threatened the kingdom from afar- like a storm brewing on the horizon. How could the celestial realm ever hurt his family? They weren’t normal demons or mortals.
Those clouds grew closer, darker, thunderous.
Kingdoms around fell to the tirade, but others stayed strong. Heng made sure the children knew to not disturb their parents when the war-room doors were closed, guiding them away to do other activities. The four children grew up with war always on the horizon, and yet it was a far from thought.
At least until Zhi reached the age to be brought into the war room to learn strategies, to learn how serious a celestial platoon could be against a demonic army.
It was up to Heng to keep the other three busy, occupied with other tasks such as learning to cook, reading, or exploring the capital city.
He kept calm, always keeping a good attitude so no one would worry.
But when the Great Sage’s weapon was discovered in a newly claimed territory… Heng took the task of retrieving it. It had been fifty years since the great journey of the Tang monk, and fifty years since any of them were heard from. The staff reappearing, it had to mean something.
They had to get to it before the Veiled Emperor did.
So a caravan was assembled; wagons loaded, horses saddled, and soldiers armed just in case. Heng bid his family a farewell, just for a few days. After all these were only retrieving a staff, it shouldn’t take long.
He didn’t think to double check the wagons for stowaways.
He didn’t think Yue would ever sneak into one, knowing she shouldn’t have ever been so far from the safety of home. He never thought he’d have to watch as she pulled the staff from the ground, as the clouds above them rumbled like a hurricane about to form.
———
Whew! A lot of text there huh? Now for pictures! The one down below will be his main outfit and hairstyle!

Hello!!! I was reading this post of yours (for my research) and i'm truly wondering how did Byzantine princesses wanted to take a bath?? Do you have a post for that?
I don't but I managed to find a few pieces of information about the general habits of Byzantine bathing and grooming, and particularly that of the empresses and the princesses.
"The wealthy and noble women of the empire were concerned with their looks and Christianity cast no pall on the baths nor the sale of cosmetics and perfumes. (...) Byzantine gardens, therefore, had areas set aside for aromatic flowers from which could be distilled some of the more fragrant oils. (...) Mirrors, tweezers and similar hygiene equipment would have been commonplace in a Byzantine home. (...) Michael Psellos wrote that (Empress) Zoe turned her chambers into cosmetics laboratory in which she created cosmetics and ointments to preserve her beauty well into old age. (...) Byzantine women did not use as heavy cosmetics as their earlier Roman counterparts. (...) For eye liner and darkening eye brows and lashes, kohl was very popular."
Source: http://gretchenbrownauthor.com/2018/04/08/cleanliness-and-hygiene-among-the-byzantines/
"Women washed their hair in special fragranced solutions that naturally lightened it, including saffron, turmeric, fern roots and citrin-colored sandalwood and rhubarb.  The cloths they wrapped their hair in were usually brushed with perfume. People made their own scents at home.  Lotions and creams were made fresh from natural sources and had to be used in a few days. (...) There were many public baths;  the Byzantines - even monks and nuns - bathed frequently. One was expected to bathe twice a week. (...) The Byzantines had a wide variety of cleaning products for bodies and clothes."
Source: https://www.pallasweb.com/deesis/daily-life-in-constantinople.html
"Byzantines in the capital city of Constantinople developed public baths similar to those found in Rome, and public bathing was a daily ritual for many. (...)  Unlike the Romans, who used a lot of makeup and cosmetics, the Byzantines avoided heavy preparations for their skin. Instead, they developed rich perfumes using ingredients obtained in trade from China, India, and Persia, modern-day Iran. Perfume making was developed as an esteemed trade."

Cosgrave, Bronwyn. The Complete History of Costume and Fashion: From Ancient Egypt to the Present Day. New York: Checkmark Books, 2000.
"Let us now place ourselves in the second half of the 11th century, when a Byzantine princess arrives in Italy again; not in Rome but in Venice, although with the same nuptial purpose. This time she is Theodora Doukaina, daughter of Emperor Constantine X Doukas and Eudokia Makrembolitissa (the niece of Patriarch Michael I Cerularius) who is to marry Doge Domenico Selvo. (...) The Byzantine stravaganza of Theodora was reflected not only in the colossal retinue she led or the impressive tiara she wore at the ceremony (the one worn by her brother Michael VII, who had just inherited the imperial throne) but also in her own daily behaviour, which included such whims as bathing in the dew that his servants collected or – and here is what interests us – the refusal to touch food with her hands, so that she made use of a golden fork to prick the bites that her eunuchs had previously cut off."
Source: https://www.labrujulaverde.com/en/2020/06/how-two-byzantine-princesses-scandalized-europe-by-using-a-fork/
"While the Germans like Theophano, many of them thought her odd. The Byzantine empire was known for its luxurious, decadent ways, and Theophano was a product of that 'decadence'. She talked too much, she bathed every day, and, strangest of all, she used a two pronged utensil to bring food to her mouth (aka a fork), instead of eating with her hands like everyone else."

Check here for a great link with detailed description of Byzantine public baths, how they worked and how they were taken
Peter Damian, the Cardinal Bishop of Ostia, wrote a chapter entitled "De Veneti ducis uxore quae prius nimium delicata, demum toto corpore computruit" ("Of the Venetian Doge's wife, whose body, after her excessive delicacy, entirely rotted away.") about an unnamed Byzantine princess whose manners he considered scandalously lavish and which brought to her a horrible death as a divine punishment. This woman has been mistakenly (since Damian died 1072) identified with Domenico Selvo's wife by later Venetian chroniclers (incl. Andrea Dandolo and Marino Sanuto the Younger) followed afterwards by various modern authors; however since the work in which Damianus' chapter is contained is dated ca 1059 it refers probably to Maria Argyropoulaina who had died a half century before.
From Wikipedia. Irrelevant but Maria Argyropoulaina might be the most modern Greek name I have seen in a medieval woman ever.
When, three days after the wedding, the new empress left her rooms to take her bath in the Palace of Magnaura, the court and the commonwealth gathered in queues behind her in the gardens. And when the empress passed with the servants who showed off the robes, the boxes with the perfumes, walking first, accompanied by three ladies of waiting who held apples decorated with pearls, as a symbol of erotic love, the commonwealth would cheer, the jesters of the court would make inappropriate jokes and the most important officers of the empire would escort the empress all the way to the entrance of the bath, where they waited for her to finish, and escorted her back to her bridal chambers.
Source: From The History of the Byzantine Empire by Charles Diehl, translated by me here.
They don't go into great detail as you see but I guess they are enough to give you an idea. Reminder to check the link I added above about the detailed description of the public baths - it is very interesting!

The Art of Handmade Oriental Rugs
Oriental rugs are traditionally crafted in regions such as Persia (Iran), Turkey, India, Pakistan, and China. Skilled artisans use age-old techniques to weave high-quality wool, silk, or cotton into intricate patterns that tell stories of their heritage. Each rug can take months or even years to complete, making them unique and highly valuable.

Silk Rugs – Luxurious and intricate but require more care.
Cotton Rugs – Lightweight and easy to maintain.
 Examine the Knot Count
A higher knot count often indicates better quality and more intricate designs.
Pick the Right Design and Color
Choose a rug that complements your existing décor, whether you prefer bold, vibrant hues or subtle, muted tones.
Caring for Your Handmade Oriental Rug
Vacuum regularly to remove dust and dirt.
Rotate the rug periodically to ensure even wear.
