Everyone's always going on about Crowley/David Tennant being the slutty one with his slutty little walk and his slutty and unusual little relationship with furniture but no one talks about slutty Aziraphale/Michael Sheen and his slutty little expressions every time he looks at Crowley, the harlot
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Michael Sheen is a master of micro-expressions and knew what he was doing.

sexy himbo jock interpretations of James Tiberius Kirk are silly and do a disservice to the character for a lot of reasons, not least of which is that it fundamentally ignores all the times in canon when Kirk is faced with a scientific discovery or oddity and you can see the effort it takes for him not to clap and skip with excitement. like in ā€˜the devil in the darkā€™ when Spock posits that they might be dealing with a silicon based life form and McCoyā€™s like ā€œbut thatā€™s impossible!ā€ and Kirk literally crosses the room to flirt talk excitedly with Spock about the prospect and how it could work! and what it would mean!
What Iā€™m saying is, Kirkā€™s gotta be smart and a huge dork because how else could he pull a bad autistic bitch like Spock?
#see also:#in arena when the aliens let the enterprise watch Kirkā€™s fight with the Gorn on that fuckass asteroid#and Spock is like listing the elements present that Kirk could use to build a weapon or make an explosion or whatever#but Kirk canā€™t hear him! because heā€™s on a fuckass asteroid#but he still turns around and does exactly what Spock was describing because heā€™s ALSO SMART AND CAPABLE AND GOOD AT SCIENCE#and like! you just know Spock was likeā€¦.barely containing his lust in that moment#like your bestie your life partner your other half is out there showing why youā€™re soooo drift compatible#while also being good at science (your favorite thing)???#I wouldnā€™t be normal about it either#(Iā€™m very clearly not normal about it anyway)#like you know theyā€™re excitedly sharing science journal articles in their free time because theyā€™re dweebs!! theyā€™re dorks!!#the greatest trick this show pulls off is making you think Kirk and Spock are opposites#when in fact their whole thing is ā€˜how differently can two people be raised and move through life and still be the epitome of#whatever souls are made of his and mine are the sameā€™#Iā€™m sorry I had a smarter more coherent Star Trek post I was trying to write but Iā€™m not feeling coherent at all#so you get this instead#Star Trek#star trek tos#tos#Iā€™m still in season one so no one correct me if they swerve super hard and never let Kirk be smart ever again after that#let me have this

i cackled before the season came out and everyone was freaking out about the brothel scenes because they wanted demi!Colin and now the possibility was lost forever, when it was precisely the brothel scenes (+ the diary bit) which cemented demi!Colin to canon prosperity!

Lady Echo: A Character Analysis
Before we dive in, there's something about me you should know. I'm a TV Tropes truther. That site is my Bible. If a piece of media interests me, then you'd better believe I have visited its TV Tropes page.
And because of that, Echo in particular is a character I've been meaning to talk about for a while now, because I get the feeling people tend to overlook what I feel is the true core of her character at the end of season 3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see, while other tropes go more into detail about her true motivations behind betraying Oropo, that part of her character ends up being reduced to being a Woman Scorned, and while that certainly applies here, I really don't think that's the trope that best encapsulates her character and her decisions at the end of the season.
A Woman Scorned is essentially any woman who has been wronged by the person she loves and seeks revenge or has at least expressed great anger. And it can go from being cheated on by a partner, or simply being rejected by their love interest and not taking it well. And both heroic and villainous characters can be the ones to break her heart. In fact, Arpagone too would be an example of this trope, as even if her feelings for Ruel are still there, most of her actions are motivated by the pain she feels for his decision to choose money over her.
Tumblr media
As you can see, this all fits with Echo's actions and feelings at the end of season 3, but it's very general overall. Which is why, in my humble opinion, Echo is a better example of Love Forgives All but Lust.
This trope is essentially a deconstruction of tropes centred around the appeal bad boys have for women. The thing about women falling for bad boys is that those women tend to know they're bad news, and beyond a desire to be the ones to change them, the real reason that interest is born is because they're attracted to the idea of the bad boy being a jerk to everyone, but them. Love Forgives All but Lust is what happens when the woman is rudely awakened from that delusion.
In other words, when they realise not even they are safe from their partner's worst actions. And what is the best way to have a woman feel betrayed to the point of seeking revenge? Unfaithfulness.
Sure, they will forgive their partner if it turns out he's a serial killer, but if he cheats? Then he's the one who's dead.
An example of Love Forgives All but Lust is when the police is trying to get a mafioso's wife/girlfriend to testify against her lover, but she refuses to cooperate... until she discovers her husband/boyfriend has a lover, then she'll do everything to bring him down.
If you think about it, this is essentially what happened between Echo and Oropo after he revealed he only ever "loved" Amalia. Even if Echo is a much more active player in Oropo's machinations than simply being aware of them, having helped him carry over his plans for centuries as his second-in-command.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After he kissed Amalia and claimed Echo never meant anything to him compared to her, that's when Echo totally lost it. And her subsequent actions are a direct result of his betrayal. It never had anything to do with Echo seeing the error of her ways, as we all know.
Think about it, it wasn't until Oropo chose Amalia over her, after everything they had ever been through, that Echo truly struck. Once it became apparent her lover didn't care for her nearly as much as she cared for him, that's when Echo revealed his true plans: to destroy the gods, he must destroy the World of Twelve and deprive them of followers. In other words, he was willing to commit mass genocide for the sake of his dream.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moreoever, the fact that she got to reveal the true extent of his plans at all already highlights that only she knew about them. All along, Echo knew what Oropo was planning, the consequences of his dreams, and she never once stopped believing in his cause. Their conversation in episode 6 even going as far as explaining Echo already believed in him and supported his dreams before ever falling for him, meaning she can't even excuse her actions by saying her feelings blinded her. Because she was perfectly aware of Oropo's plans all along.
And yet, that didn't stop her from loving him. If anything, it was only another reason she fell in love with him.
No, it wasn't until Oropo broke her heart that she ever went against him.
If you ask me, this all reads as Echo not minding Oropo's most questionable tendencies because she was convinced she was exempt from ever being at the receiving end of his worst actions. After all, she had been by his side the longest, witnessing how he got rid of demigods that failed to meet his standards or were no longer useful (going with what the show claims, I haven't read Ogrest's manga). It wasn't until he kissed Amalia and shoved her aside that Echo realised not even she was safe from him.
And it was because Oropo had had no qualms to screw her over that Echo decided it was her turn to screw him over. And hence, she revealed his plans to the Brotherhood of the Forgotten, not because she'd seen the error of her ways, but because Oropo had hurt her and she wanted to make him bleed in turn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the end, Echo's actions weren't fuelled solely by revenge or even jealousy, they were fuelled by the bitter realisation that she never meant as much to Oropo as he meant to her. It was about realising he had no qualms hurting her, not about how he had no qualms hurting anyone else.
It was about Echo not being enough for Oropo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And for me, that's why Echo is a better example of Love Forgives All but Lust.

every year around this time I rewatch Julie and the Phantoms, and every year I am reminded how much heart this little tween show about grief and hope has
#more thoughts in the tags#it is at times what the kids call 'cringe' - or it would be - if it wasn't so earnest#sometimes you don't need a perfect budget or 20-somethings pretending to be teenagers#or a large following or sequel appeal#sometimes you don't need big complicated anythings to make a story that ought to be told or a show that ought to be seen#sometimes you need to cast children as child characters#and come up with a theme that everyone can feel on some level [death] [hope] [love]#and choose loud colorful costumes and big cheesy music numbers and silly gags and over-the-top bully characters for the FUN of it#and pour every ounce of heart you've got into it and if netflix cancels it after one season? you gave that one season your all#jatp#there's a difference between big-budget stories written to profit from lust or shock or violence--#--and stories that are written for younger people and dealing with something people of all ages will eventually encounter#stories that are written about characters who lean on loved ones and focus on what they can do with what they've got#characters who are determined not to waste their lives or the gifts they've been given and instead to push on with excellence#specifically in order to benefit others#and what a bonus if the young lead actress is an incredibly-talented darling who is not sexualized by any part of the show in any way#what a bonus-bonus if the other protagonists are three good-looking dead dudes from the 90's (just because the writers COULD)#who are so openly affectionate and brotherly and huggable that you genuinely watch and think 'I hate that they died'. and you're SUPPOSED t#that it perfectly portrays what a real healthy best-friendship looks like - both for girls AND boys#that it perfectly portrays what TEENAGERS can be like#(not the high school. the high school is insane. it is cartoonish. I am 98% sure current high schools aren't blue and furry like that.)#and the main ship? luke and julie? that is seven-layer bean dip romance right there#like an onion. LAYERS to unpack#they did not have to make the ghost boy who seems most unbothered by death go back to his parents' home and weep#where he thought no one could see him. weep over lost time and past mistakes he can never take back. because he was loved#and loved unconditionally even if things were hard sometimes. kids need to see that in shows#they need to see that good parents are not perfect AND good parents love you. and that YOU are not always right#and that life is too short to let the sun go down on your freaking anger. open up your mouth and talk to the people you love and try.#the nuance of the bully character? that Carrie is a hard worker and talented JUST LIKE JULIE#and using it for ALL the wrong reasons in all the wrong ways

Why is my dash continuously discussing hypocrisy as a sin that needs to be atoned for and punished by the narrative and not in an interesting way re: what causes someoneā€™s POV to be such that they consider themselves weak when others consider them strong, that they view themselves as having had no choice in their actions, that they will plan one thing and execute another, that they will go against their team or their leader. Why are we focused on narrative punishment for sin again, endlessly, as though we are in hell, and not interesting aspects of what causes a person to think like this or act like this and what will they do next and what is the logic there? Why the moral rightness again always? Why are we looking for a sermon in the block men in a death game?

The gorgeous Nerdy Prudes proshoot is available for download and going public in less than two weeks. At which point the bonus digital download features will also drop. The Nerdy Prudes and Ghosts of Antikythera albums have both just released and are so phenomenal. VHSCC is coming back bigger and better in November as a full two-act show. Workin' Boys is dropping during a surprise Hatchetfield Halloween event in less than two weeks (!!!!!!!!!). Shipwrecked just released an all-time BANGER episode of Greater Gatsby and apparently just filmed "How To Be A Ghost". This fall is amazing.
In related news, I'm sitting here wondering how people navigate the torture of life without fandom/hyperfixations to pull them through.

As an anime-only viewer (for now), I think they really did a good job at establishing Regulus as a fucking creep with just one scene. Not that he didn't already give off those vibes previously, but Emilia waking up undressed in an unknown location and then dropping that line was so icky it was perfect.

word of advice never trust a sonic fan who insists that the characters have aged and are vaguely "older". 99% of the time they're saying that to cover their ass so they can thirstpost about teenagers

I'm back to my season 2 rewatch. Tonight we're on 2x02 Lavender. All i can say is that two second Lust Conquers All opening clip goes hard and I want to know everything that went down on that island immediately. The Jamie & Danthony island rivalry? A woman who is presumably Amy fake crying in the background? That other guy blatantly laughing? "I was just playing a game. Find the fittest girl there. Have sex with her in the toilet. Ask her to marry me. It's strategy." J A M I E???

The thing abt reading dungeon meshi from my library as the actual volumes means its getting marked down in my "2024 books read" list as 14 books for the entire series but then reading manga online means even tho theyre only a couple less chapters and are published into multiple volumes, are only getting listed as one book on my list

what you all don't know is im writing my hit YA novel, 'A season of lust and parsnips' where the main character is inexplicably referred to as 'my beautiful parsnip princess' in what is intended to be a romantic and completely unironic gesture
