New FEH Character!

Since this was datamined, the character is underneath ‘read more’. I’ve really been interesting with the story so far, although Book III really did raise the bar from what we got in Book II, I’m just a sucker for Nordic Mythology and Book IV so far is definetly using that to its advantage!

According to the datamine she is called Lupine and that’s pretty much what we know until the new story update happens! I really like her design, I just hope IS gives us more male fairy’s please, the designs are too good for us not to get more boys other than Freyr!

Why is Drar*y so popular among HP fans but not Hinny? Besides Drar*y, i think second most popular in fandom is Harmion* ship, not Hinny or Romione. So I wonder why canon ship in HP not that popular. As Hinny & Romione shipper, it's really hurt me whenever I read a hurtful comments regarding my ships in facebook, tumblr and ig.

Harmione used to be popular- but they faded into relative obscurity compared to Drarry over the last 10 years. 

So time for some SHIPPING HISTORY:

Before the 5th book:

Hinny’s popularity has never been high- back before book 6 Harmione was the popular ship- Ship wars were mostly Harmione vs Romione- with a side of Hinny, and a tiny bit of Lunarry. 

Then the sixth book came out:

The second Hinny became a thing , Harmoanians were suddenly on the attack. Fandom in general had a MELTdown. 

Romance was the most important thing to fandom- there were tons of people shocked by Hinny happening (they shouldn’t have been. It was very obvious.) But with romance being ‘TEH MOST IMPORTANT THING EVAH! SQUEE’ they were really mad that the all important romance wasn’t given a lot of screen time.

They wanted the books to switch genres in order to build up the romance ‘properly,’ basically. Fandom is STILL that way. We indulge in fanfiction where romance can be the center of attention- but the books didn’t do that. How dare they. :P 

Anyways- people have always disliked the Weasleys for some reason (classism), and Ginny got a TON of hatred. 

There are lots of reasons Ginny was hated:

she broke a ton of ships

she is pretty athletic and sassy- many of the readers prefer Hermione because they identify with a nerdy smart unpopular selfrighteous girl over a ‘jock’ character

she’s not the ‘main girl’ of the book- so has had less screen time

by this point Ginny was also barely in the films- Hermione was being powered up and beautiful- while they made Ginny a shell of a human and did little to vamp up Bonnie’s looks

People wrote her off as a fangirl/stalker character

no one was paying attention to Ginny and so saw her character development as ‘sudden’ (it wasn’t.)

Then the movies caught up to the books-

Kloves was a huge Harmione shipper, so that got a TON of attention in the scripts and films. 

Daniel Radcliffe was a Lunarry shipper and put a ton of his acting into that. 

On film Hinny got NOTHING at ALL except like 2 ‘sad looks’ by Ginny? Until book 6- and then they didn’t even interact? It was awful.

So movie-based fans hated Hinny (and movie Hinny DESERVES the hate. It’s AWFUL.)

Romione gets established in both universes (book and movie) very firmly. (Even though it was not handled the best in the films.)

So with Hinny being hated by movie fans, and disliked by many of the book fans- and movies influencing book readers as well- Hinny was firmly established as a disliked ships.

Then there’s the Draco thing:

Meanwhile- Draco has always been popular in fandom- but the girl he was always involved with in the books (Pansy) was not well developed compared to other characters.

Dramione used to be VERY popular. People LOVE the idea of ‘redeeming draco’- but with Romione being written into the plot so firmly, Dramione lost a ton of shippers over the years because it was messy and upset all the character interactions a lot- and so many of them turned to Drarry. Keeping Romione is easier than Dramione.

Drarry became more and more popular- Hinny was hated, and getting rid of it in lieu of another ship was easy- it didn’t upset Harry’s relationship with the Weasleys, Got in that hothot m/m goodness fandom (again mostly women) crave, has the ‘forbidden love’ people crave, and then they also get that ‘smarmy bastard sex machine in leather pants paired with an uptight ‘good guy’’

That’s the same reason Wolfstar is so popular. It has that trope- troubled ‘bad boy’ and ‘uptight haunted good guy’ that people cream themselves over. It can be a super cute ship- and there are great fics /art out there for it, but the main appeal is the tropes, imo. 

At the end of the day, certain tropes have more appeal to people. It has little to do with the books much of the time- and given everything- Hinny and Romione are simply ‘boring’ to many people, unsexy to others, and ‘poorly done’ to a lot of people.

I disagree- I think they’re awesome! :) But feh- the biggest bummer is not getting as much fan content with my ships, and having to come across SO much hate for Ron and Ginny everywhere. 

 I got the ships I wanted in the books :). I have a lot of cool artists and writers to follow, and enjoy writing and drawing them myself- and you can’t help what’s popular at large.

Analysis

Players have been crying wolf for years, inquiring when beast units such as Keaton would eventually make their way into Heroes. After two years and the introduction of beast units in January Keaton makes his way into the game debuting as a red infantry unit with inflated stats to boot. Keaton marks the beginning of a trend for upcoming Infantry units, boasting a higher overall BST along with a base kit wielding powerful skills such as Special Spiral 3 as his B skill. 

Keaton’s stats and base kit mark him as a physical bruiser able to handle brutal hits and dish them back out to his opponents to boot. His weapon of choice, Wolfskin Fang, grants him not only a small attack boost when transformed but carries a Wo Dao+ effect, adding +10 to overall damage to his special when it activates. On top of everything Keaton’s fangs allow him to effectively double his opponents on both phases ignoring the need for speed checks and giving him the equivalent of a brave weapon that works on both player and enemy phase. This is incredible for Keaton as it leaves him with a unique level of flexibility for the player to build him for whatever purpose required. His special, Draconic Aura, compliments his high attack boosting it by 30% once it activates. Finally we come to his default B skill, Special Spiral 3, which grants Keaton the ability to effectively reduce his special cooldown by -2 once it’s first activated. Therefore, if Keaton activates Draconic Aura while in combat and defeats his opponent on the first strike he will reduce the 3 turn cooldown of Draconic Aura to 1, allowing him to activate it again on the second hit on a turn of combat. In combination each of his skills making him a nasty foe to square up against if unprepared.

His C skill, Beast Valor, will likely never see usage outside of training maps as it serves no purpose outside such territory. When equipped, Keaton and all other beast units on the team will receive twice the SP gain allowing them to learn skills faster. This is fantastic while grinding out SP to help Keaton and other learn their respected skills faster but serves no other purpose and is recommended to be swapped out for events such as Arena, Aether Raids and Arena Assault.

Keaton will prefer boons in Atk and Def and banes in Spd and Res in that order. While not too high, it’s better to preserve Keaton’s HP.

Note: As a generation 3 infantry unit Keaton carries higher BST than current infantry units in the game without the use of dragon flowers.

Build Suggestions

Budget/Low Investment:

Keaton’s high attack is an asset that can be be easily capitalized on without heavy investment. The following builds will detail Keaton’s core strength as a bruiser while requiring as little investment as possible. Keaton’s C skill is quite flexible and will ultimately depend on his team’s composition.

Both builds focus on Keaton’s best aspect: his sky high attack and his fang’s built in effect. Wolfskin Fang alongside granting Keaton +2 to his attack when alone also grants him the ability to hit his opponents twice before they can make a followup attack in both player and enemy phase. Many foes will find themselves hard pressed to survive his onslaught therefore for low investment we’ll simply capitalize on his high attack with skills such as Attack+3 and Fury 3 as his A skill of choice. Attack+3 is a common budget option and helps push Keaton’s attack to a high 58 at neutral without a penalty to his HP after combat or being locked to any phase. Quickened Pulse is taken as his seal of choice to reduce the cooldown of Draconic Aura from 3 turns to 2, encouraging him to activate it faster while in combat and trigger Special Spiral’s special cooldown. 

On right build we take fury to not only increase his massive attack but to also provide Keaton with some bulk, making him quite formidable against melee units. To better improve his defenses (especially in enemy phase) we use Close Def 3 as his seal of choice granting him +6 to his Def and Res while in combat allowing him to shrug off a hit or two. It will be important to be wary of his HP as he will take a penalty of -6 HP after each round of combat with Fury 3. 

Keaton’s Sacred Seal options include but aren’t limited to: Attack+3, Defense+3, Atk/Def 2, Brazen Atk/Def 3, Fierce Stance 3, Atk Smoke 3, Quick Riposte 3 and Heavy Blade 3. 

Player Phase:

Keaton’s built in brave weapon and high attack can lean him towards player phase setups with a heavy potency.

The first build utilizes Death Blow 3 and Chill Def 3 together to further weaken his opponents and allow him to KO his foes before they get the chance to reply back. Death Blow 3 will grant Keaton +6 to his attack if he initiates combat, giving him a max attack of 67 if transformed. We add Chill Def 3 as his B skill of choice to effectively reduce the defense of his bulkiest opponent by -7 potentially providing Keaton the ability to defeat said opponent even if against the weapon triangle. Atk Smoke 3 is taken as the seal to reduce his opponent’s attacks providing him some protection from melee units who would otherwise make a dent on our wolf boy.

The second build focuses moreso on activating his special consistently while in combat while using his given B skill at the same time. Special Spiral 3 will reduce the cooldown of a special by -2 if the special is activated while in combat. Heavy Blade will effectively give Keaton a +1 to his cooldown allowing him to activate longer cooldown specials such as Galeforce or Aether. It should be noted however that Special Spiral works best with 4 turn cooldown specials such as Dragon Fang and AOEs such as Blazing Wind. Keaton will take a turn charging his special, activate it on his second round of combat and then lower its cooldown by -2 afterwards. Therefore in this build’s instance of using Dragon Fang Keaton will charge it in his first round of combat, activate it in his second and have it ready for his third round making him a formidable team sweeper. Atk Smoke is taken to better ensure he activates Heavy Blade’s higher attack requirement.

Physical Wall:

Keaton’s physical bulk and high attack can leave him open to defensively geared setups. Being an infantry unit Keaton has several options at his disposal so each build will be given a brief explanation rather than a detailed analysis.

Keaton’s first build presents itself more as a budget option, utilizing Fortress Def 3 and Guard 3 to boost his bulk to its highest while at the same time protecting himself from his opponents uncharged specials. With the existence of skills such as Flashing Blade 3 and Bold Fighter, a special activating in combat can change the outcome of a fight. It’s for this reason we take Guard 3, protecting him from said specials while giving him a leg up to charge his own and have it read. Atk Smoke 3 is taken to push his bulk further but can be swapped out for a different seal if desired.

The second build uses the uncommon combination of Steady Breath and Special Spiral 3 to consistently activate specials in enemy phase. Steady breath will reduce the cooldown of a special by -1 if a unit is attacked. In combination with Special Spiral should Keaton activate his special in combat it will be reduced by -2 outside of combat allowing him to proc his special against his next opponent immediately. The following combination works best on 4 turn specials such as Ignis and Dragon Fang.

The third uses the infamous Distant Counter Vantage setup, guaranteeing a foe have to take 2 thrashings from Keaton once he falls below an HP threshold. Here we abuse Keaton’s fangs to their max seeing as how they allow Keaton a guaranteed double on his opponent in both phases. He can effectively make the choice to attack on his turn or simply wait for his foes to fall one by one against him. His special is fairly flexible with the following setup and can be swapped off Draconic Aura if desired.

High Investment:

The following builds are best intended for players who plan on building Keaton to his best and merging him to +10. Keaton has some interesting options and whether he leans towards brutal beatdowns or mixed phase bulk is ultimately up to the player.

The build on the left plays on aspects of builds explored in the player phase section of this review and pushes them to their maximum. With Death Blow 4 and a +Atk IV Keaton will reach a massive 72 attack unbuffed. This will easily allow him to charge his special thanks to Heavy Blade as the seal and let him use AOE specials such as Blazing Wind nearly every turn once activated with Special Spiral’s cooldown reduction.

The build on the right serves to provide him with a dangerously high amount of bulk both in the aspect of physical as well as magical. With the addition of Fortress Def/Res 3 players were given the option of fully bulking up their units with a lower cost of attack only taking off -2 attack from their unit. With Keaton’s already massive attack this reduction in attack is negligible and can easily be reacquired from his team’s support. Special Spiral 3 is kept to reduce Aether’s cooldown to 3 once it’s activated in combat but can be swapped out for another special if desired.

Analysis

Legendary Leif presents a new long-ranged threat to the meta of FEH, equipped with his own unique weapon Meisterbogen and plenty of Atk to make good use of it, as well as access to a Galeforce effect, setting him apart from any other cavalry archer, let alone any ranged unit.

L!Leif’s BST is concentrated mostly on his Atk at 38 neutral, with poor Spd and mediocre defenses. This works well with his niche with Meisterbogen being a 9 Mt Brave Bow as L!Leif really doesn’t need much else besides Atk, and its ability to deny enemy follow-ups allows L!Leif to take on fights without worrying as much about being taken out by counterattacks. However, what really lets L!Leif shine is his unique Special, Njörun's Zeal, which is essentially Galeforce on a cooldown of 3. This is a huge deal for L!Leif as no other ranged unit is capable of using such an effect and heavily increases his presence in the player phase. Although it does restrict his movement on his second action, L!Leif would be incredibly difficult to deal with as enemy AI otherwise, and it can even be circumvented with a skill like Restore+ or Harsh Command+. L!Leif’s default S Drink puts Njörun's Zeal on a cooldown of 2 for its first activation, meaning L!Leif can activate it with only two hits.

Meisterbogen also has the benefit of being usable in the enemy phase as well, although with L!Leif’s range and Njörun's Zeal, he thrives far more in the player phase, and pre-existing units like Keaton or WoT!Reinhardt can essentially fulfill the same role but better. Though, being in effect in both phases will of course make L!Leif quite difficult to deal with safely as an enemy.

L!Leif prefers a boon/asset in Atk (superboon). His preferred banes/flaws are Spd, Res, and HP (superbane).

Builds

Budget/Low Investment:

Atk/Res Push 4 is a fine A Skill for Leif as it provides him significant Atk in either phase, and while the Res isn’t especially needed it serves as a nice bonus. Def Smoke has nice synergy with Njörun's Zeal, softening enemies after his first attack to secure extra kills in the same turn. The first build is more player phase-oriented, adding the Sturdy Blow seal to increase his damage on initiation. The second is more flexible, simply using Atk+3 to increase his damage overall and with Vantage to keep opponents at bay in the enemy phase when he’s vulnerable.

Meisterbogen:

The first build maximizes Leif’s damage output in the player phase to make him as difficult to avoid as possible. Death Blow 4 and Lull Atk/Def provide him with an effective +11 Atk and will also negate enemy Def buffs. Heavy Blade allows him to charge and activate Njörun's Zeal in two hits without S Drink and thus significantly increases its consistency. Njörun's Zeal can be replaced with a 2 CD damaging Special to secure more kills, though Leif will of course miss out on Njörun's Zeal’s unique refresh potential.

Leif can also take Close Counter to become an even greater enemy/mixed phase threat. Once within Vantage’s and Brazen’s HP threshold, Leif’s aggressors will have to be able to tank two 58 Atk hits and potentially Ruptured Sky before getting the chance to hit him.

Guard Bow Enemy Phase:

While not hardly as optimal as L!Leif’s normal kit, his mixed defenses are decent enough to stack Distant Def effects to become a ranged tank, similar to how Roy: Youthful Gifts is often used either as a Brave Bow nuke or a Guard Bow tank.

With Guard Bow+ and Distant Def 4/3, Leif gains +20 Def/Res in the enemy phase against ranged enemies for 52 and 51 total on top of a Dull Ranged effect. This makes it quite difficult for ranged enemies to ORKO him, and with Quick Riposte, Leif can double and retaliate with Bonfire for 26 burst damage.

Arena Core:

While Leif lacks the supporting capabilities of many other high-scoring units, if already investing in Leif, he may be able push your maximum score up quite a bit thanks to his legendary Duel effect. The skills used in this example are all used for their high SP costs and are flexible.
