It was a little embarrassing for the Guardian to admit aloud, although he was honest to himself in this regard – he’d always admired the girl known as Tohsaka Rin. She made everything look easy, shining brighter than any of her peers, never regretting her actions – one could say she was his first crush. Once they became closer and she became his mentor he learned how much of a hot mess she truly was…And, weirdly enough, his admiration grew. Rin believed that she had no catalyst to summon a Heroic Spirit, but she was wrong: her heirloom and herself were the catalyst, the light in the darkness that reached out to him in his Hell. Her very presence saved him. He’d carry that smile that saved him through all eternity.

There was something he couldn’t put into words about the sensation about his Master trusting him completely to have him catch her up and break her fall.

There was something he couldn’t put into words about the sensation when she used a Command Seal on him. …Sure, he was overtaken by self-hatred and acted behind her back but it still hurt.

Still, he looked back at it fondly. He would only wear his garbs in the presence of a worthy Master – and as long she was around, Rin would always be the one. ❝ You are the one who I pledge my loyalty. Now and always. ❞

Rufus was shocked at her statement: he certainly never did anything to warrant such trust. In fact, Tifa should hate him and everything he represents: some rich kid who in her eyes never faced hardship in his life or endured any personal tragedy – he was on the side of who caused her grief. Her anger should be directed to him, not her love. Still, the young president despised her allies for being so blind to her suffering. To allow her to bottle up her feelings and cry in silence while they are too occupied with their own grievances and doesn’t have a single thing to spare most of the time unless she breaks down. The heir didn’t see himself as a good person, not by a long shot. But Cloud and that Avalanche “leader”? Rufus had seen other cells with more unity and Tifa was the glue that kept them together… Yet even the one keeping things together needs support.

❝ You will always have my support. ❞ He had put his life on the line to save the TURKs and would do it again. And he would certainly do it for Tifa, even if she never asks. ❝ I will make sure to live up to your expectations and I always keep my part of the promises. ❞ Making promises that they are unable to keep is a bad habit of most people, but barring anything outside his control Rufus had always kept his.

Recollections of his previous summoning were hazy at best, he was able to recognize a few things and believed that, with time, more would come to him. Even so, a melancholic feeling lingered. ❝ My sword shall open the path for your fate, I shall shield you from harm. You are my Master and I shall honour you.  ❞ Arthur’s oath rang proudly, yet devoid of any vanity.

❝ My my, you are certainly an interesting one. ❞ The bowman remarked, she certainly made him think of a certain livewire…But something about her demeanor was clear that they are completely different. ❝ You are the Master, I’m the Servant. I can’t say yet if you are worthy of my loyalty but we shall see. At least I’ll give you my word that I’ll keep you safe.❞

Noctis hadn’t been down under the plate in a while, busy keeping up with Mr. Tuesti’s paperwork and other things, while also maintaining his own health. Midgar was so hard to live in, the constant pollution and Mako production, but living on the Plate was so much better for him than living underneath it, despite making him closer to the planet.

So his trips were less frequent of late, but finally he’d had a chance to wander underneath and follow the planet’s directions to where he was needed most. Today it happened to be closer to the disk wall surrounding the city, as close as he could get to the Wastelands without stepping foot outside the city. He’d not been trained to fight, his only lessons outside what normal children would get were how to blend in and help keep the planet alive.

He did as much as he could while going unnoticed, occasionally having to stop and hide if a patrol or passerby took too much interest in him. Initially Noctis thought that he was doing well, breathing some life back into the soil beneath him. That was until he tried to stand to return to his home, no strength in his legs to support him sending him crashing back down to unyielding earth.

It was embarrassing to be sure, but it meant he could stay and listen to the pleased voice from the planet, small thanks and regrets that the task would fall to her children to help her survive until the Promised Day.

“ It is no trouble, mother. I am just sorry that I could not do more. “ Noctis keeps his voice quiet, best to seem like a crazed man talking to himself than a Cetra speaking to the planet. He would continue with his conversation, quiet as he could, hoping that at the very least, someone would just walk by and not help.

Perhaps today was the day not to wear nice clothing… though he hadn’t exactly planned on sitting in the dirt until he could walk again.

" i am. “ no need to hide, that he wasn’t yet asleep. not exactly easy when the same nightmares came to hunt him almost every day. dreams he didn’t truly understand, but the fact that he had seen men with numbers on their arms, as well as the guy tifa was keeping next to her with such a number on his arm, couldn’t be mere coincidence. something was happening. something probably linked to sephiroth. something he couldn’t probably imagine, but something he’d need to find out and would find out the deeper they got themselves involved with the fate of the planet.

“ can’t sleep? “ he simply asked her, head tilted to look at her next to him with some sort of smile. “ sleeping in the wild is surely vastly different from your apartment, i guess. “ the starts were much closer though. he could count them. he could truly see everything. the planet seemed much nicer without the upper platform obstructing the view. still, the endless sea of a sky could be terrifying, too. freedom always came at a cost.

“Don’t worry about i-” Cloud of course was against this considering he could had done it himself but the ever stubborn Tifa had found her way into his room anyway and began to care for the ex-SOLDIER’s wounds that he had suffered on another one of his missions as a mercenary. Granted it was his fault for taking the situation as lightly as he did, being a proud first class SOLDIER had blinded him from the real terrors of the world, however, luckily through rigorous training with Angeal he’s managed to prevail time and time again. The cuts upon his wrist and forearm were treated with liquid medication planted by Tifa herself. 

Then soon enough she began to wrap his appendage under a few medical bandages that should keep his cuts hidden from outside bacteria and should promote his healing, granted the mako in his body would help accelerate this even further. Though, the thought in itself was..nice enough that he himself could not avoid being courteous. “Thanks.” Cloud spoke, his tone stoic but in his heart he was grateful for her aid. “You’re better than me, I would’ve charged you 100 gil for this.” If anything, he might as well throw a line to tease her with his new mercenary occupation.

   Zen   would   always   keep   his   word,   clearing   his   schedule   to   help   a   friend   move.   Despite   the   tongue   lashing   he'd   get   from   his   managers.   None   of   that   bothered   him   now   that   he   had   a   stack   of   brown   boxes   and   sweat   on   his   brow.  

   From   another   room,   a   tune   carried   through.   A   gentle   hum   that   he   thought   nothing   of--   until   lips   of   his   own   carried   the   tune,   a   combination   of   lyrics   and   sound   to   finish   the   song.

Their relationship is a mess. He is already dead, so there isn’t much that she can do to “save” him and it is costly (mana-wise) to keep him. Meanwhile, he also don’t want to drag her down for a short time of indulging something the don’t feel he should have. Archer wants her to be happy, but appreciates the gesture... It is a messy situation.

Rufus is going to try to be a better person for Tifa, but he knows that he was raised twisted: he isn’t a good man, and knows that in his father’s shoes he would have done a similar thing to cover the incident -- albeit he likes to think he would never have the Jenova Project started in the first place.  If the remake is going to follow an ‘endgame’ closer to the original, Rufus is going to dedicate much of his life atoning for his father’s sins and helping the inhabitants of Edge to the best of his abilities, but might be reluctant at first to let Tifa be associated with him -- he is hated after all.

His eyes followed where she seems to be transfixed, spotting a tear and a small blood stain in his shoulder – it had been something that went unnoticed after fending off the attack.

A tense situation between Tifa’s group and Rufus’ security detail arose – she and her friends were part of an AVALANCHE cell accused of murdering the previous president and other terrorist attacks, along with traveling with two of Hojo’s tests subjects. Both the TURKs and the guards were determined to capture the criminals when an explosion caused the already frail structure to collapse, with the young president and the barmaid separated from the rest. Worst still, they hardly had any time to ascertain their surroundings before the realization it was a monsters’ nest and having to fight for their lives. Past encounters in secrecy had already contributed for a deep bound between the two of them, soon put to the test – her quick punches and kicks, his flawless aim and precision, synchronized allies in a deadly dance tearing down the violent monsters that soon realized how outmatched they were and started to retreat. No, they were more than allies at this point, but none of them dared to say anything. It would be highly inappropriate and perhaps dangerous to think that way. Who knows who might be listening or what sort of chain reaction it would unfold. Glances and coveted smiles in private, other words exchanged but never the ones they wanted to say. Situation seemed to have calmed down enough for them to try to figure what was going on. Yet, without warning, Rufus’ survival instincts kicked on as a shade shifted too quickly and he reacted by shoving the girl out of the way, firing his shotgun before even fully identifying it – it appears one of the monsters decided to hide in one of the dark crevices and bid its time for a surprise attack. The still pumping adrenaline meant that he didn’t even notice the wound until she brought it to his attention.

❝ Think nothing of it, I merely acted on my own accord.  Are you alright? ❞ the casual dismissal was also for himself – it was uncharacteristic of him to risk himself for others. No… He actually have done this before, but not in such manner. Rufus was unconcerned about the wound, or the suit or anything, merely glad that she was unharmed. ❝ We should get back before more monsters show up, or before our groups do something too drastic.❞
