On the Nature of Fal’Cie
Full disclosure: I started this post some years ago. (Whoops.) Back then, this post was prompted by a rather poor explanation on the FF wiki about fal’Cie and l’Cie, and what their respective purposes were. That has since changed to a much more accurate summarization of the lore.
That said, I’ve still seen plenty of confusion concerning the lore since there are so many moving pieces and it can take a lot of digging to understand it. So I’m going to go ahead and just post this as is—with the outdated FF wiki excerpt—just so that I can finally get this out there.
Outdated FF wiki excerpt:
Fal'Cie were created by the gods for a specific purpose, which can be thought of as a "Focus." L'Cie exist as a "loophole" to this pseudo-Focus, and allow fal'Cie to complete objectives for which they weren't originally created.
Fal’Cie have Focuses. Orphan explicitly says this himself. It isn’t the potential consequences that make for a Focus; Focuses are simply tasks bestowed upon beings by the Gods. Fal’Cie and l’Cie both possess Focuses.
L’Cie do not exist as “loopholes.” Loopholes implies that fal’Cie are exploiting a flaw in the system. They aren’t. The utilization of l’Cie is the system functioning exactly as intended.
Fal’Cie exist in part as the medium in which the Gods can bestow humans with both their Focus and their brand. Fal’Cie choose who become l’Cie and the nature of their Focus—but it’s the Gods that do the actual branding. The Gods themselves are very much part and parcel of the whole process. It’s the God Pulse we see branding the party at the end of chapter two, featured below.
This is what you need to understand: every entity here, every l’Cie, fal’Cie, and even the Gods themselves except Etro are cogs in a machine. They all have a role to play. And some of them have dualistic roles—namely humanity, which was set up to be knocked down by their own hands in the form of Ragnarok.
So here’s how it all shakes down, per analect I. the Vanished Gods:
Luminous is Bhunivelze. He created Pulse, Lindzei, and Etro.
Stout is Pulse, who then created Gran Pulse.
Sage is Lindzei, who realized how to find their way to the Door.
Fool is Etro, who tore herself apart after being abandoned by Bhunivelze.
Maker (both Pulse and Lindzei) created fal’Cie from components of themselves.
Maker (Lindzei) then created humanity from “traces once Divine.” This was the blood of Etro.
Afterward, the Gods departed the mortal realm. The reason for their departure isn’t explicitly stated, but it isn’t impossible to deduce why. In fact, another analect gives us a pretty good idea for it.
I propose a different explanation: the fal'Cie are hunting. Whether they seek a way to recall the gods or to journey to their side I cannot say, but I do believe the fal'Cie seek their lost deities. They search the earth, the skies, the waters, and even the deep places, seeking a gateway to the Divine.
—XI. Hypothesis of the Hunt
In the absence of their makers, the fal’Cie of both Pulse and Lindzei sought to find the Door. They believed this would pave the path to reuniting with their Gods. But similar to how l’Cie were manipulated into fulfilling their own Focuses, the Gods designed the fal’Cie to do their bidding through ignorance and deceit in order to find this gateway to the Divine.
For most of Pulse’s fa’Cie, such as Atomos, Bismarck, and Dahaka, this would mean searching Gran Pulse’s depths and heights for the deities that had seemingly abandoned them. But Lindzei would have other ideas...
And lo, the viper Lindzei bore fangs into the pristine soil of our Gran Pulse; despoiled the land and from it crafted a cocoon both ghastly and unclean.
Lies spilled forth from the serpent's tongue: 'Within this shell lies paradise.' Men heard these lies and were seduced and led away.
—II. Lindzei’s Nest
Lindzei would engineer the conflict between Gran Pulse and Cocoon in order to facilitate Ragnarok. While Lindzei created Cocoon and its resident fal’Cie, Pulse would craft Anima, the patron fal’Cie of Oerba and the one that would ultimately dole out the Ragnarok Focus.
Two l'Cie are they, the Chosen, and from the North they hail. Endowed are they with fal'Cie Focus, to bear the burden of the Beast.
My brothers and sisters of Gran Pulse: Honor the Chosen in your prayers! Let the blade forged of their will be tempered by your faith, that it might sunder that devilish cocoon's façade!
—III. The Chosen
Etro’s divine intervention during the War of Transgression, however, would save Cocoon’s inhabitants and ultimately thwart the other Gods’ plans. Afterward, Barthandelus would move the fal’Cie Anima to Bodhum, where it would sit undiscovered for six centuries until Fang and Vanille awoke from crystal stasis.

just a littleeee late. Busy with school irl TwT but I'm done with all of that for now!!
All of the quotes I can find for every character is below the cut, along with the scrapbook entries that have been added! So. there's a ton of text below the cut and it's very long, like usual.
Btw!! Currently for the beta there's a decent amount of scrapbook entries and some quotes that are just. missing from the code. like they just say "TODO", --[[TODO]]. I haven't included any of these, so if you notice a character is missing quotes, that's probably why.
I'll check each update (hotfix?) to the beta + the final update release to see if these have been added yet and put any new (or missed!) quotes in a reblog. probably. I hope I remember Also I'm not sure if

Man of science
“I find that before the terrible event occurred several people had seen a creature upon the moor which corresponds with this Baskerville demon, and which could not possibly be any animal known to science. They all agreed that it was a huge creature, luminous, ghastly, and spectral. Being "a man of science" doesn't mean that you don't believe in supernatural stuff or that you are atheistic. I know a lot of scientist who belongs to different religions even one that tried to convert me into his church so leaving a space for things that can't be explained with science is compatible with the scientific life.

Red Bones
In my vision I flew as I fell and rode a great gray wolf through a vortex of smoldering antlers. My beast steered my thoughts until, like water in milk, we merged and became a singular ghost rushing like wind through the dreaming wilds. I was drawn to a sullen sound and at once saw a young boy’s skull hanging from ghastly strings. There was a mournful chanting nearby, a soft feminine voice that sang wordlessly in the night. I found its source: a young girl who was rinsing her ruddy hands in a starlit pool. She was bare, save for a wooden mask, its brow carved with a pale moon. Nearby, amid the vines and briarwood, a black bear lurked, but the girl showed no signs of concern. I saw then eight arrows of yew, each with a glinting green obsidian point, arranged like the spokes of a wheel on the ground. I looked again at the boy’s skull and saw that it hung amidst his red, excarnated bones. A gentle breeze rocked his remains in the gnarled tree, each bloody bit bound there by his own sinews to its misshapen branches. It seemed to me that he sprouted like macabre fruits from the sleeping, twisted limbs. His luminous flesh caught the light of the full moon and glowed dully in the darkness as the masked girl began toiling to stretch it tightly over a simple wooden rack. With her hands, she caressed his lovely ruin, and smeared the taught flesh with the boy’s own brains. This she did to tan and preserve his hide, but also to work his memories into the skin. “I will wear you in the Spring,” she lamented, “and you will rise again as the Sun.” I think that she wept beneath her mask, though its rough wooden visage was unchanging and stern. When she resumed her singing, I heard the rough sound of ursine breath behind me. As snow began to fall, I opened my eyes. © JM Tiffany 1.2.2024

Painted Hearts
Part 5
This is part four of a Jinx x female reader series, in which the reader ends up in the Arcane universe and winds up getting involved with the plot. Starting just around where series main plot begins
It often feels like a person cheats time in the hours between closing one’s eyes and opening them come morning. This void of space can be filled with dreams, some of which you may or may not recall, some of which may have been reoccurring since you were young enough to recall them. Dreams can be joyfully lucid, crushingly depressing, often times they exist as a vault of unexpressed, unpredictable, and unprecedented emotions.
Today your dream was foggy, vision distorted as you’re stumbling down a seemingly endless tunnel. There’s a figure ahead, you can’t imagine their identity, but you cannot help but chase after them.
Luminous, vivid blue was a colour that you saw only at night, hidden under the lids of your eyes. A stark, bare colour that seemingly filled you with only the most overwhelming emotions. You always remember these dreams - whether your entire dream was stained monochrome blue or even if you catch but a mere flicker of the captivating colour. You’d always awaken, heart racing, gripped with frustration as you fail, continuously, to envision that unmistakeable forget-me-not blue.
Perhaps it was for this reason that you chase the figure so desperately, the familiar braids flowing behind her, dancing almost tauntingly at the very tips of your outstretched fingers.
Only when your hands clasp empty air does she finally still. You could have sworn she spoke, her voice indistinguishable, smothered and muffled by the fog.
Your mind wanders aimlessly as your gaze settles fixedly upon the intricate designs mapping her back, pondering why this person was running from you, lightly tracing the swirling clouds. Her skin was icy to the touch, yet you felt an indescribable, content warmth settle around you both.
Twin braids swing rhythmically as she turns, ghosting her own fingers over your bare skin, before gazing unflinchingly into your eyes.
Oh.
Oh.
Eyes of an unmistakable, addictive colour mirrored your bewildered stare. Immediately, you were enraptured by the bliss of her presence - immensely, overwhelming smitten with this intoxicating stranger. Her touch littered your arms, collarbone, neck, every brush somehow hitting you like static. Yet gradually the air around you felt smothering, suffocating. As if those sparks of static had set your body alight.
You take an unsteady step backwards; her hands fall to her sides; her caress has left you smouldering. The fog surrounding you now felt like thick, painful smoke, swallowing your breath in a ghastly cloud.
Her expression was one of desperation as she reaches out towards your retreating figure, now acidic pink eyes pleading for your return. But you don’t want to burn with her, you don’t want to go up in flames, melding together into twisted effigy.
You wrench yourself away, staggering into a sprint.
Yet it was as if you were running through quicksand, limbs moving in slow-motion, never gaining so much as an inch of ground.
Airy laughter grazed your ears as you felt lithe limbs embrace you, torso pressing flush against your back, warm breath ghosting your neck as she purred sweet, possessive nothings into your skin.
It was almost comforting, that groggy, sinking feeling her clasp now had upon you – like a warm cup of chamomile laced with a lethal dose of nightshade.
A slow, soothing way to die.
Awaking to the familiar bite of cold air, you cringe into the warmth of whatever material is covering you. Even worse, everything ached, you expected that this was how someone would feel after ascending a mountain - whilst carrying a sack of bricks in tow. You didn’t want to open your eyes and acknowledge this fucked up situation you’ve found yourself caught in, however you force yourself into consciousness.
Immediately you’re fully awake.
It only takes a couple of seconds for you to register that you’re suspended in mid-air, having been sleeping far too comfortably upon a make-shift hammock. Rope netting, of which you recall being hung around the fan blades, has been hastily wrapped in thick swathes of dark fabric, the same slightly rough material you’re covered in. There’s at least a thirty metre drop beneath you, of which you are not going to risk, leaving you unable to so much as attempt to escape.
Of course, she’d have made sure you had no means of escape - it’s not like she’s going to trust you, even after your embarrassingly desperate pleads to survive.
You call out awkwardly, to which there is no response. Assuming you’re alone, you exhale and fall back into the swinging bed. Whilst it might be a way of keeping you from running off, it was strangely accommodating. Although, the sheets most definitely weren’t actual bed covers, maybe curtains or merely raw fabric, and smelt slightly floral. Below you could see a few lights illuminating the workspace, the occasional splashes of neon colour reflecting off the florescent glare. It was just as you had seen in Arcane, eerily exact.
Letting yourself relax, your mind wanders for some time until you hear the distinct sound of a door opening and wet boots trekking across the fan beneath you.
Peeking over the edge of the hammock, you find the figure of a forlorn looking pyromaniac. Her arms are wrapped around herself, clothes positively drenched. You can assume that the scene in which Silco evil-baptises her has just occurred. As if feeling your gaze on her, she glances upwards, eyes immediately finding yours. A manic grin twists her previously solemn features as she waves her arms around excitedly.
“Mornin’ toots- missed me much?”
You were about to reply, negatively, however she didn’t stop to hear your response.
“Y’know how cold underground water is? It’s freaking freezing! How was I supposed to know to bring a warm change of clothes - if all I got was some foreboding message to meet Silco at the lake??”
She was pacing back and forth, a visible trail of water puddling across her path. Stopping occasionally, she’d throw her hands in the air or harshly whisper into the air beside her.
“Oh yeah- don’t worry about the specifics of how I know Silco. He’s sort of like my adoptive old man, also still a very dangerous drug lord – but I haven’t told him about you yet… So, make sure not to get us caught glowstick, cuz he might actually kill you ahaha…” She’d trail off, leaving you debating your own safety.
You still can’t seem to get a word of response in, as she continues to chatter mindlessly to (presumably) you as she walks around the fan blades. At some point she’d begun to strip off her wet clothes, talking nonchalantly in the process. You turn your gaze away from the near nude woman in embarrassment as she walks in and out of sight, twisting various levers as she goes. Hearing a metallic squeak alongside the sound of a tap running, you faintly recall seeing a bathtub in the series setting. How Jinx manages to get hot water up here, you cannot imagine - although she’s certainly smart enough to have fixed that up for herself.
Laying back, your hands cover your face as you groan in frustration, listening to the idle chatter for what seems like hours before you hear her leave the water.
“Y’know that lake water was dirty too- l swear Silco forgets I’m a girl sometimes. Like, I might be a slightlymanic, gun-wielding terrorist- but I’m still a woman who likes to stay outta dirty water and smell clean!”
You feel faint amusement at this, listening to her rant to you as a frustrated daughter of a single parent. It was so strangely mundane, enough to feel at ease with.
“I’m surprised he doesn’t understand, seeing how much hair you have.” You exclaim genuinely.
“Precisely!” She cries out, “I feel like I’m talking to a brick wall when I bring up anything- anything… feminine with him!”
A smile plays at the corner of your lips.
“Anyhow- Let’s get ya down from there.”
Your stomach momentarily drops as you feel the hammock jerk downwards; your knuckles turning white as you immediately grip the netting.
“Whoops! Sorry ‘bout that toots, may or may not have over-oiled this lever last night.”
You bite back a catty remark, choosing not to snap at the woman lowering you from a fatal drop.
The netting stops descending after a short time, suspended a few metres from the blade, in alignment with the faded green sofa. Taking this as an invitation, you clumsily clamber off the make-shift-bed and onto the sofa below, sitting awkwardly as the blue-haired captor waltzes back from wherever she’d been. A stained, somewhat wet towel is then dropped on the cushioned surface beside you, to which you wrinkle your nose at in slight disgust.
Jinx now stands over you dressed in her usual attire, bar her shoes, hair roughly styled into wet braids. You note that her usual fringe is absent, imagining that it appears when her hair dries, and braids loosen. You can smell something faintly floral and sweet in the air near her.
“That” she points at the abandoned towel, “is for you.”
Halting your observations, you raise an eyebrow in question.
“Look- ya kinda smell toots, like you’ve been rendezvousing in sewers kind of smell. There’s a tub over there, so use it before you stink up my workshop.”
You can feel your cheeks heat up in angry embarrassment at the blunt comment, now feeling incredibly self-conscious under her gaze.
“Fine.” You huff, snatching the towel up as you tread briskly towards the forementioned tub.
You’re met with a faint surprise, now seeing that Jinx had stacked a flimsy wall of wooden crates around the bath to allow you for some form of privacy. For at least this you are grateful, shimmying past the wall and into the small enclosure.
The bath itself is hideously stained; splashes of vibrant colours overlap into off-putting, dirty greys that disappear under the sheen of soapy bubbles. You dread to know what colour the water is beneath the foam, nevertheless, you strip and hesitantly slide into the warm bathwater. Beside the tub is a small, wooden table, on which sits an array of seemingly random bottles, jars, and flasks filled with hell knows what. You can only eye the label-less jars with the necessary suspicion they deserve.
“I forgot to tell ya-“ You startle as a blue head peers over the wall, hurriedly ducking under the colourful bubbles. “don’t go using any of those greyish greenish liquids - they’re definitely not for cleaning.” Jinx proceeds to then throw her arms in the air, mimicking an explosion sound to accompany it. This is then followed by a muffled, amused snicker.
What’s the point of putting together a privacy wall if she was just going to evade it anyway?
You furrow your brows, exhaling shakily in attempt to keep your wits about you. “Right, cheers for that - Can you please leave me to bathe alone now?”
She pauses, shadowed eyes briefly narrowing before shrugging dismissively, disappearing behind the crates. You sigh in relief, sitting upright to separate the green and grey liquids from the huddle of glassware. For further safety you discard all yellow and blue liquids too. Ultimately, they result in green too - right?
Finally, you take a hesitant sniff of a pinkish bottle, a clear liquid that smelt refreshingly non-toxic. Honey and begonia, a scent you now recognise Jinx having smelt of earlier. At this you deem it safest to use, going through plenty of the soapy liquid to scrub through the layers of grime you’d accumulated over the last twenty-four hours or so. You certainly smell far better, even if of begonias. These particular plants bloom into awfully pretty flowers; however, in the past a bouquet of begonias was sent as a warning to beware of bad omens. How eerily fitting.
Quick to leave the lukewarm water, you eye the somewhat cold, damp towel hesitantly before roughly drying yourself off with it. Beside it lays a neat pile of heavy-duty, practical clothes, seemingly a mix-and-match of your choice. The colours consisted of surprisingly neutral earth tones, material decidedly layered and of an almost military or dystopian style. Yet the beneath, the inner linings were decorated with familiar, neon drawings. It would almost seem sweet, yet you sense that there is most definitely an underlying meaning – perhaps in how these signature doodles can be seen to mark a certain ownership over what Jinx would deem as her property. A constant reminder that you’re not here to live as her roomie, but as her personal project.
But at the same time…
Trailing your hands over the material, you can’t help it as your lips tilt into a gleeful smirk.
These clothes are fucking cool, apocalypse-core type of hot.
Strangely satisfied, you push a few crates to the side, sliding through the make-shift room and into open space, immediately coming face-to-face with consequence of your bad karma.
Had she been standing there this whole time? You’re tempted to ask her; the feeling of discomfort having been growing in your gut since the moment she’d opened her mouth. But perhaps accusing the manic, schizophrenic pyromaniac of flaunting her disturbing behaviour isn’t a bright idea.
Meanwhile, the said pyromaniac merely looks you up and down, nods and then proceeds to scamper off towards her central workshop, to which you slowly trail after her.
Perhaps it’s because she’s never really hung out with anyone her own age?
It hits you – this might just be the first time she’s ever allowed anyone in her sanctum besides Silco, yet alone having someone living here with her.
So not only are you a living project, but going through some sort of deadly social experiment on the side?
Mothertrucker dude.
If the current situation wasn’t so decidedly inhumane it would almost be attractive, the whole being pinned down and then non-consensually having your blood drained to keep yourself alive thing. You hiss as a deceivingly delicate hand holds your arms down, not too gently inserting a needle into your wrist.
“Blimey toots, you sure writhe around for someone who volunteered for this.”
You shoot her a scathing glare, to which she grins snidely, pinching your cheeks with an eerie fondness of a sort.
“Ouch, that look could do with some ice.”
“Well perhaps if you hadn’t pounced on me out of nowhere then the whole experience would have been a whole lot less like I was being mugged.”
She rolls her eyes, chuckling as she releases your limbs, climbing off of you.
“Look, I thought that ya wouldn’t be up for it unless I made it more fun!”
“…Fun?”
“Mhm.”
You groan frustratedly at the sheer inability to communicate that this woman possessed. You hadn’t even been given time to dry your hair before she’d jumped you. And now here you are, left wired up to some sort of make-shift trima machine, slowly filling sandwich bags up with your bioluminescent blood. Just to further help the situation, you can clearly see a few test tubes of your blood already sitting at Jinx’s workstation. Paired with the scattering of bruising pinpricks left in your alternate wrist, it’s pretty clear that she isn’t so much as trying to hide the fact that she’d already been draining you.
This must be what it feels like to wake up in a motel submerged in an ice bath with one of your kidneys missing.
Not to mention how utterly boring the task that had been forced upon you is, all you can do is glare at the woman slouched over a table, clearly completely fixated on perfecting the Hextech crystal. Music blares from the vinyl beside her, deafening any of your attempts to catch her attention.
And then it felt like you were watching through a screen again, blue sparks erupting from the workstation. You simply can’t take your eyes off of Jinx, braids dancing around her rhythmically, an expression of prideful extasy cast over her features. Shimmering specks drifting mesmerizingly from every direction.
The piercing sound of glass shattering snaps you out of your trance, almost as if reality was slapping you around the face as a reminder that you too are present in this situation. Surprised, Jinx skids to an imminent stop, leaping from her chair instinctively as broken viles of your blood seep over her desk and dissolve into the spiralling crystal. The result was immediate, as another wave of raw, galvanised magic bursts from the device, a pulse powerful enough to send the flimsy device attached to you flying into your chair. With a strangled yelp from you, the needle is haphazardly torn from your arm, and almost like a swarm of bees, the sparks descend upon you.
Static, all you can seem to disconcert are sharp, electrical pinches. Neither painful nor discomforting, they felt strangely natural. Warily cracking open your eyes, you’re met with a surge of light, of which you can barely squint through. Lifting your bare arm up, you’re quick to observe the sparks seemingly multiplying at the touch of your bare skin. A figure soon enters your field of vision, hands clasping her own face in giddy excitement.
“Oh toots, you’re blue- like literally glowing iridescent!” She swoons, gushing over your newfound condition in fascination. You feel the all-too-familiar bite of nails digging into your skin, already kneeling besides you to trace the map of glowing veins exposed across your arm.
“Wow, I didn’t even notice.” You drawl sarcastically, already feeling the threat of an approaching migraine. It would be so hideously cliché of you to faint twice. Must be these god-awful lights, and the god-awful company.
Snickering, Jinx glances up, gappy front teeth biting over her lower lip.
“You’re practically a power up… An enhancer- D’ya know what this means?”
“…That I’m lucky to not suffer from epilepsy?”
She giggles, gripping your chin tightly as she leans in, eyes never once leaving your own.
“It means you’re one hell of a valuable asset Glowstick.”
Ughgffg sorry for how long this took, I had writers block and a gazillion hugeass assignment deadlines to meet this last term. Made a longer chapter to make up for the wait tho so hope you guys enjoyed aha
The style of clothes I was portraying are seen in Hamcus clothing. The designer of the brand Tuff Leung shows absolute individuality in his designs, the concept of which focuses not so much on clothes as on characters from sci-fi movies and video games. Each collection is dedicated and presented as a separate race, which is already unique.

yappers part 1/? (abt abyss aether)
im working on my p.o.v of abyss twin aether and i see him kinda like... well, he is the same species as lumine of course, so he can withstand quite a few things like she can. but basically i think he inject the abyss energy into himself to be more connected with it.
the way he looks is also altered from how lumine looks, but even moreso with direct abyssal energy within his veins, looking at him you'd think he looks deeply ill. ghastly pale, purplish black bruising in parts of his face, arms, showing skin. but even more, that they're moving.
ik he's an angry guy for what happened , but also i like to think he's simply just doing all he can to lend his strength to the abyss for revenge...

Devlin's Mother
Agni Devi, Dev's mother, was a woman of rare grace and talent. In her youth, she traveled far and wide as an entertainer, captivating audiences with her performances that seemed to draw light from the very stars. However, when she discovered she was pregnant with Dev, she chose to settle in Chanderi, embracing a quieter life for the sake of her unborn child.
As Dev grew, so did the demonic entities that lingered at the edges of Chanderi. Agni Devi, once a beacon of light herself, began to succumb to a darkness that seemed to seep from the very soil of the town. Ghastly whispers haunted her nights, and visions clouded her days, driving her towards the brink of madness.
The weight of the unseen world bore down heavily on Agni Devi, her mind unable to shield itself from the malevolent forces that sought to intrude upon her thoughts. The knowledge of these unseen terrors, coupled with the burden of raising a child destined to face them, took a toll on her spirit, fracturing her once luminous soul and bringing her to the state she currently is in.

Creation and destruction. The man that he was now, was made of both. Fragments haplessly forged together with the strongest of heat, forever imprinting onto his very soul.
Never again, would he be the same ambitious, arrogant, yet skilled craftsman. Sparking spite fueling every expertly-made creation, wielded by only the best of the High Cloud Quintet. Only serving to fan the flames of his ambition, like a wildfire, smugly burning those who dared to even try to compete with his abilities. How else would he have snatched the title of Furnace Master from right under the Artisanship Commission's nose?
Prove them wrong, prove the wrong, prove them wrong- Oh, he'd laughed in their faces back then, upon hearing of his rejection. What, did they expect him to grow disheartened and give up?! Fools, all of them! If they didn't want him, his skills were wasted there. They didn't need nor deserve someone of his high caliber. All because of him being short-life. Did they seriously underestimate him that much!? Did any of them have "crating weapons for the great heroes of the High Cloud Quintet" as an accomplishment? They'd regret not accepting him, as would the rest of the Xianzhou, for that matter.
His name and his exploits would carry on through the ages, scorching a path that would never cease.
He'd do so much more than those long-lived.
So, so much more.
But... pride comes before the fall. And the fall hit like a gargantuan cold wave of water, pulling him under and submerging him in its dark depths. Viciously extinguishing his flames of arrogance. Forever.
Hopes of a legacy, of avenging, were no more.
But.
Never again would he be the abomination whose only driving force was destruction. Whose name was more of a title than a given name, displaying the extent of his dehumanization in eerie perfection. Whose cold amber eyes only glowed with exhilaration when fighting, instead of a completed weapon.
An utter monster, from what Yingxing could recall. A hurricane of chaos and danger, tearing Teyvat apart.
There was a widening of his azure eyes at the revelation. Blade, the cruel being he was then, having done any scarp of good? That "kindness" having been directed at them?! Advocated for her to put herself first, that she didn't always have to cave to what others wanted of her. That... that he could faintly remember. Channeling his hideous swordsmanship towards protection instead of outright destruction, as well. Yet also struggling to hold down the urges to instantly decimate those he deemed a threat or a mere annoyance to them. It was no Spirit Whisper from Kafka, but a command from Lumine seemed to be enough to dull those vile desires for the time being.
"I wouldn't call it 'selfishness'..." Voice low, gaze merely peeking over to her before returning to look downward. "But I felt like... everyone was asking too much of you, impeding you in your true goal. I... despised that. Maybe because I knew, somewhere in my fragmented mind, how that felt?" All those long-lived, talking down to him, underestimating him. Different from Lumine's situation, yes, but... achingly similar to him.
The winds guiding him back, sword plunging into Abyssal beings one after another, spider lilies sprouting all around him and ensnaring any and all threats, sapping them of their life-force. Mara burning in him, agony coursing through at even the slightest movement, yet he still fought. Relentless in his protection, yet trying not to lose himself to the frenzied desire to eliminate everything in sight, regardless of alliance. Body pushed to its farthest limits, littered with ghastly wounds, barely able to stand when Lumine found him. It was only when he saw she was alive that he allowed himself to fall.
If he were to meet his end... this would be satisfactory. Went out in a blaze, just like he'd intended so long ago-
He stayed quiet, merely nodding. There would likely be parts of him that would always carry Blade with him. At least, his body displayed that quite clearly. Hideous scars that tore across his body, hands near-mangled after merciless justified torture. The occasional disregard for his well-being, the fierce protectiveness, as well memories embedded in him far deeper than he'd like.
However, he did find himself laughing a little, eyes closing briefly. "Heavier than I'd care to admit." Voice fully lacked its typical smug tone, a... resigned tone replacing it. "I'll never be the same Yingxing everyone knew again, and I'll never allow myself to be Blade again either. I'm a completely different man, like crafting a sword with a pair of hands other than my own. It's... a lot to think about, with both my and his memories mixing together."
Finally, he sighed and opened his eyes, directing his gaze towards her.
"But I hope that isn't a not a deterrent to you. Coming here, meeting you again. It's done more for me than any of my time on the Xianzhou ever did. After all that time spent wandering planet after planet, you could say I have a home again." Thus, he finally managed a smile. "If anything, I have a new goal, instead of avenging those lost... Replacing Wagner as Mondstadt's blacksmith."
Ah, yes, there it was, the classic arrogant smirk.

"Bloody hell," Zaid gasped (someone over-dramatically), when he actually saw Selin up close. Sleepless dark halfmoons under her once luminous eyes, her pretty hair now dull and limp. An artist's oil painting of miserable. "You don't look well. Did someone you know here die?" Zaid clucked his tongue in sympathy and leaned in a bit closer, voice a bot quieter.
"Was it that whole...pit the hornets dug up? Ghastly thing, that. Monstrous." But this didn't just look like fear in Selin, it looked like hopelessness. "Honestly I think you absolutely need a drink. If you've got some fizzy water, we can make it a spritz, yeah? The wine is chilled and sweet, perfect for drinking. We can hide inside your home, away from everyone. And we don't even have to chat. Yeah?"
A little uncomfortable to say this out loud, but Zaid mustered the courage to say it: "I'm just..not sure you should be alone right now." Even Zaid winced saying it. So assumptive, such an invasive a thing to say.
He straightened from Selin's door, ready to divert before facing her likely wrath. "You know love - here, keep the wine. I can gooo...?" Because after telling the woman she looked on the verge of a mental breakdown, the kindest thing to do would be to abandon her with a bottle of alcohol, right? You so bad at kind, Zaid. Wise words once, from Tej.
Selin's movements along the beach were simply her going through the motions it seemed. There wasn't any effort made to greet anyone, to make small talk, it was simply in and out. Get what she needed and return home without anyone talking to her or noticing her. She hoped that she had made herself small enough (figuratively that is, since she could literally do that now) that nobody would pay her any mind as she grabbed a few things from The Hub and brought it back to her bungalow.
She didn't even really get to settle back down for long before someone came knocking on her door though, proving that her efforts were wasted. Maybe next time she will actually use her abilities to shrink down to get around. Maybe she'll get stepped on, but that was the risk she'll take to go about her business without people trying to fix her up. There was a brief moment of hope that maybe it was Lokni coming around finally to see how she was, at least she was comfortable enough to tell him what she was feeling and trusted him to have some soothing, comforting words.
But it turned out to be Zaid. It felt rude to think that, to feel disappointed that he was at her door, but Zaid was always a bit difficult for her to pin down. Like the moment she felt like that were getting along, he'd suddenly lash out or make it clear whatever they were, it wasn't friends. Yet now he was initiating contact, instead of her floating around and picking him up along the way, the least she could do was give him an out.
"Whatever you need help with Zaid, I don't think I'm really up to it right now-" She started saying through the door as she made her way to open it, pausing when he held up the bottle of wine and went straight into talking about it. Her eyes were tired, dull, glancing between the bottle and then back at him. It was a curious situation but she was sure that he could easily have a drink with anyone else if he wanted to. "I'll keep that in mind. But I don't really want a drink right now. Thanks anyway." she told him as if he was some door to door salesman or Jehovah's Witness interrupting her daily life.

The biggest games coming out in 2023
Hogwarts Legacy. This action/role-playing game is due to release on the 10th of February, created by avalanche software and published by warner bros. Set in the infamous wizarding world universe fans will be able to become a student at Hogwarts, be sorted into a house and much more.
Fire Emblem Engage. This Nintendo Switch exclusive releases on January 20th, the tactical role-playing game is led by protagonist Divine Dragon Alear who awakens with no recollection of their past.
Forspoken. Coming from the final fantasy XV creator Luminous Productions, the Japanese role-playing game promises lots of challenging and diverse exploration in this universe.
Dead Space. Returning on the 27th January fans of this series will see a visual makeover done on the game, it also modernizes this horror classic with a redesigned map, more gruesome moments and dynamic horror events.
Wild Hearts. This monster-hunting game is due to be released on February 17th, coming from Omega-force creators of the iconic game Toukiden, with its stunning visuals, ghastly beasts and blend of combat and crafting fans have much to look forward to.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Coming March 17th. The trailer sets the tone for more of a dark adventure, set 5 years after the events of Jedi: fallen order, the galaxy is set further into darkness will Cal be able to protect the legacy of the fallen order?
The Legend of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom. One of the most anticipated games coming to the Switch on May 12th 2023, Breath of the wild 2 will take us back to Hyrule as the desiccated corpse of Ganon has arisen, only now we will be able to explore islands in the sky and have even more abilities and weapons.

The Ghost in the Parlor (Sfw and anonymous protagonist!)
It was one in the morning when you rose from bed, sliding on a pair of slippers and feeling your way through the dark to exit your room. The sound was faint, barely audible, but you knew. . .
He was playing tonight.
As you weave your way towards the stairs, you could hear the chords beneath you, the stirring voice of a piano pulling you through dark corridors. As you stop and peer over the banister. You can see from up above, candles alight with a ghastly blue fire. Their light casting eerie wisps of shadows to dance upon the floor. In the middle of this spectral scene was a luminous form sitting at the old grand piano. His spindly fingers like spiders upon the keys, procuring the tune that wafted up the stairs. The sound is sweet and melancholic, mourning things that have been lost, and the ever present march of time. Always moving, never relenting.
You knew all this because you had asked him, it was his favorite tune to play. He played it often and there were times where you could almost feel his deep rooted bittersweet sadness. Tears would spring to your eyes and you would have to mop your face with your sleeve. Tonight the song felt especially lonely and with careful footing you crept down the stairs, your shadow timidly trailing after.
"Have I disturbed you?" His melodic voice intones as you sit down beside him. "No, I came to hear you play, if you would have me as company mister Sterling." "Sleep is for the living" he sighs wistfully, "You should be asleep, dreaming sweet dreams of tomorrow."
He talks to you but his hands, ah his quick and nimble hands keep playing. You watch them sweeping across the keys, mesmerized until he stops. You blink and look up at him. His face is turned towards yours, an eyebrow quirked inquisitively. "A little distracted, were we?" You smile sheepishly, "Ah, yes, I'm sorry, but your hands do work magic. What had you been saying?"
He gives an embarrassed huff, "It's late is it not?" They pale eyes staring at you unblinkingly from beneath round vintage glasses. "Well yes," you reluctantly agree, "But I have missed your nightly performances. And I was hoping you could give me another lesson tonight." You say softly as he flexes his long spindly fingers. "Ooh. . . perhaps. You have always been kind to me. Letting me keep you up at odd hours of night with my prattling."
"You know I would stay even if you didn't give me a lesson. Your music is beautiful." He turns his head away from you, but you can see a hazy pink color introduce itself onto his countenance. When he turns back the color has all but bled out, except for some swirling traces. "I have had nothing but time to perfect it. Though as despairing as it may be, to watch seasons pass without being able to participate in the world, I still have my music. I wonder, is it what holds me here? Is my comfort my cage? Alas-- Dear, aren't you going to put your hands to the piano? You did ask for a lesson you know."
You look up at him before doing as he asks. Aligning your fingers to the keys, "I thought you were still deciding. . ." "Oh," they respond absentmindedly, "Don't mind me, I'm particularly lost in my thoughts tonight, death, life, it's all just one big mess. . ." Sterling rambles on talking about music as you sit together playing chords and sections of songs. As you are still learning the basics he keeps things simple, most of the time you are echoing his voice on the piano or remembering notes and chords. But he has seems to have become happier with having someone he can talk to, rather than to stew lost in his own thoughts.
"You are doing quite well," A pleased smile tugging on his lips, his crinkled eyes twinkling. "Have you been practicing?" "A little. . . Not as much as I would like though." You slid your hands onto your lap and smile. "Thank you for the lesson, I appreciate you taking the time to sit with me and do that. I hope I'm not inconveniencing you."
"Of course not," he sniffs, "I. . . am very fond of your company." There was something with the way he said it, that stirred your heart. You can feel your own face grow a little warm, "I'm glad. . . haha." He glances at you, his hands poised to begin playing again. You swallow hard and press on, "Though I h-have to admit, I am more than a little fond of you."
--BADOOM His hands slip hitting the keys too hard and causes a loud blunder of noise. Practically falling off his chair, Sterling’s hands shielding his face in embarrassment. "I-I. . .WHAT?" He stammers, your eyes widen that he reacted so dramatically. "I just meant that, I c-care about you a lot--" The candles snuff out around and you are suddenly plunged in darkness. The ghost has left the building.
Your head flops into the piano, a few keys playing as your face presses into them. You give a groan of defeat Dammit! Way to go, you probably just killed him. . . AGAIN. Despite his usual stuffy demeanor he can get easily flustered. He tries to hide it under a punctual and proper air, but was a much shier person than he let on. You liked that about him though, there were little things that he did that just enchanted you. He was a deep thinker, and he always took the time to explain things and be patient with you. So of course, you had to go and fall in love with a ghost. You had been trying to gather the courage to tell him your feelings for about a week now. Slowly working your way towards the right words you say. But like music, timing was just as important as the notes. To be honest you had gotten so nervous you are sure you had fumbled in both regards. You sigh heavily, best head to bed, perhaps you can try and talk to him tomorrow.
You slink away in defeat, retiring to your chamber until sunlight streams through your window. Leaving a dappled trail of light and warmth inside your room. You grumpily turn over in bed, refusing to move until you have properly sulked for just a little while longer. Trying to wrack your brain how you were going to approach the ghostly pianist now. With Sterling being so shy, you weren’t sure if his reaction was bad or good. Only time will tell, but in the meantime you're up and making breakfast. Then busying yourself with doing chores around the house and trying not to let your mind settle too much into last night. You go about whiling away the hours until sunset. That's when Sterling becomes active inside the house. You don’t exactly know where he goes during the daytime. You have attempted in the past to nonchalantly snoop around in the basement but to no avail.
Before you know it, the sun is setting in the sky. Golden light filtering across the floor, flooding the rooms with dying light. You peer into the parlor, and step inside. Running your hands over the black and white keys. You can feel a faint prick on the back of your neck, you turn around and You startle, coming face to face with the musically inclined ghoul. You put a hand on your heart. "Oh my goodness!-- Sterling!" you sigh weakly, feeling your heart pounding in your chest. “Hello,” He murmurs faintly, you look up at him, feeling suddenly shy. All this time you had been waiting to talk to him, and now only an awkward silence fills the room. Both of you starting to speak at the same time.
“I’m sorry, what were you going to say?”
“N-no that’s alright, please, continue”
“Aaah-- why don’t you go first, I was the person who upset you last night”
A hand flutters anxiously to the glasses upon his crooked nose. "You didn’t upset me. You, w-well surprised me. I was flattered, but I don’t think you truely want anything to do with this old goat." "H-huh? What do yo--" He cuts you off with a flourish of his hand. "I'm an old man dear, not just old, decrepit. I died in 1839, my bones are buried outside, wouldn't that bother you?" His face flushes an eerie pink and he splutters in embarrassment. "I mean, it should bother you. . . " A light bulb blinks on in your head and you stare at him with new found insight. "Y-you, like me too, don't you. . ." "I beg your pa--" "It was you, wasn’t it?" With a rush of feeling, you practically jump a foot off the ground from excitement. "I was always wondering about those poems left on the door step-" your mouth goes agape. "And those flowers!" His eyes dart back and forth in a panic, his mouth wobbling. "W-what??? Me? I don't know anything about that!" You can tell he's wanting to bolt and you make a grab at one of his translucent hands. Surprisingly your fingers successfully curl around it and his shoulders jerk up. Trying to calm yourself down before trying to talk to him. You were spooking him, a novel thought, but not what you had been intending to do. So you take a different approach, "Why. . . didn't you ever tell me?" The specter is sweating bullets now, he mops his brow with a wispy handkerchief. "I-I” he groans in defeat, “A ghost cannot do romance! A ghost cannot do much of-- of anything! No matter how I felt, I couldn't keep you here, you deserve to be free, to experience life to the fullest. Not to be shackled to me and this house." You flush, truly surprised by his answer. "But, I don't want anyone else, I like you. . ." Tentatively you take his hands and hold them gently in your own. His expression quivers, looking down before he gently pulls away. His fingers wisping through your skin before reconstructing themselves back together. He puts a hand into his breast pocket before he pulls out an envelope with a flowery wax seal. He looks away from you but hands you the letter, his expression flushing as that same red color is introduced into his normal pale blue complexation. You look up at him searchingly before you gently take the letter. The smooth paper has a fragrance like all the rest of the notes you recieved, like roses and vanilla. You carefully peel back the floral seal, opening the envelope.
You watch Sterling lights the candles at the table in the parlor. It has been a week since the two of you had become a couple, and you cannot remember a happier time, then the hours you have spent together. “Didn't you say, a ghost cannot do romance?” You tease him with a smile, your eyes crinkling as you watch him with a loving gaze. He huffs softly, "That I did, and I wish more than anything I could take you to a fine dinner out of this house. . . " He pinches the wick of one last candle, and when he removes his hand, an enchanting blue fire flickers to life. “I think a candlelit dinner at home is just as lovely.” He looks at you for a moment, before he gives a little smile, “If you say so darling.” “I do.” He bends down to give you a chilly peck on the forehead before he sits down at his piano, flexing his fingers before he begins to play. The blue lights of the candles flickering to the sound of his haunting melody. But the tone has changed, no longer lachrymose. You can hear something happy stirring in the song that projects itself out of the house, and into the starlit sky.

‘Y’know, you say that a lot’ N and Nori shifted their gaze to the ruined doors as the crimson king stepped forward into the lumins light. He raised his right hand and made snap that echoed wall to cavern wall. ‘Now, I believe you said you were leaving?’ At those words the raptors and zombie drones bore fangs and claws, making ready to pounce. ‘Bye’
Without a word, N scrambled back to the caves, wings unfurled. Any amount of distance never felt like enough down here after that display. By the time he reached to spiral staircase was when he and Nori noticed what their immediate environment was truly made of. Walls of rigid bone coated in stone like cartalidge. Veins running like thick cables along the floor, capillaries occasionally splitting off from them. And the stairs were solid slabs of pure appetite held to the wall in place with pink gums.
There wasn’t much time for either to gawk as the ghastly sound of a raptor missing a few pieces of its throat and replaced with ill fitting organic came the deeper caves. Followed by the sound of hundreds of arms crawling from the same direction.
‘Nowi!, ow I ark, trow ah null’ N said as he readied a rocket with one arm and bracing with the other.

A peaceful night on Copper-9 was nothing to scoff at. Clear driven snow in flows of calming white fluff. Perfect night to go scavenging for body parts with your girlfriend’s mother to build her a new body! Though the closer they got to the Cabin Fever Labs, the more N wanted to break the silence. Until…
‘Sooo… uh, any particular reason you wanted to walk there instead of just… flying?’
N said with the nervousness of walking on proverbial eggshells. He had a feeling he knew why but he didn’t want sour the trust Mrs.Doorman and had only recently built.
Nori looks at him and sighs
Maybe because I don't have wings like you?
