dark fantasy verse rundown: lourdes is a vampire still, of course, and lives in a remote castle. he uses the title "marquess", but has no actual claim to nobility. he just took the title for the sake of asserting his importance and superiority, and "king" is far too butch.

there are towns and villages close enough to the castle (which is surrounded by woods. spooky woods. there's probably a ghost in there or something), and anyone who has seen it has only done so at a distance. almost everyone who goes looking for it and finds it doesn't come back. the woods themselves are dangerous.

opportunities for interaction are probably even easier than his main verses. your muse could stumble on the castle, either by mistake or intentionally. they could also come to work there; he employs several servants at a time who are responsible for cleaning and collecting blood. travel is difficult and hazardous, so it's rare that he leaves home.

what do you see today? better yet, what don’t you see today? probably the same as yesterday, right? everything at once and nothing at all. you know the face looking back at you enough to know that it is not your own, whatever that means. you’ve learned by now that your face is irrelevant, one that takes a backseat to the ones that come to you every day, asking you to show them lies. you don’t, of course, you are an amalgamation of all the faces looking back at you, a reflection of themselves. there is nothing but truth in that. don’t take it too personally, then, when they scream in your face and take off running. you show them what they show you: who they are. it’s something you can relate to, isn’t it? not being able to confront yourself face-to-face.

As soon as Madonna finishes her first cheese stick,  she's reaching for another one with enthusiasm.  Her eating is neat and voracious  —hungry swans,  koi fish in the springtime.  Her manners are not so apparent.  She licks her fingers free of bread crumbs and oil where she can,  tossing her hair behind her shoulders with a swish of her head to keep dark strands from getting in the food. 

At Selah's words,  Madonna hums.  Somewhere along the line in their conversation,  she certainly anticipated this.  Selah carries herself with the timid,  sweet nature of a young girl.  Could she really be so naive,  or was she simply sheltered and aware of life's other dealings?  Beyond booze,  substance abuse  —sex.

     ❛   That's  okay.   ❛   The woman affirms,  reaching for her third stick and dragging it through the depleting container of ranch.   ❛   You  don't  have  to  imbibe,   or  anything.   But  you  are  sitting  alone  at  a  bar,   so...   ❛    She drags the cheese stick through the ranch contemplatively before withdrawing,  allowing the white goop to drip down.   ❛   Either  you  really  like  these  sticks,  or  you  want  to  try  something  new.  Or  both.  It  could  totally  be  both.   ❛

She anticipates disapproval over the greasy snack. She keeps her eyes locked on the woman to gauge her reaction while folding one of the paper napkins from the dispenser on the table to keep her hands busy. A grin spreads on her face at the noise of approval and bigger bite.

"Good. I'm glad you like it," she says through a giggle, putting the napkin on her lap. She pushes the basket a little closer to the other as an invitation to take as many as she'd like. It's such a relief to have someone to share anything with, and Selah is eager to give the woman all of her attention now that she's got her company.

Madonna. It's a pretty name too, also sounds old. "It's nice to meet you." She looks down to the cheese sticks and grabs another one, eating it as neatly as she can. She's not about to mess up her newly forged friendship with bad manners.

But the question makes her pause. "Oh, uh—" She sits up straighter, eyes shooting down to the glass of coke she already got a weird look for ordering. A drink means one from the bar, something alcoholic and with a weird name that she's unfamiliar with but not against.

They're becoming friends, sharing food, learning fortune stuff with cards... It's what normal people do, and a drink would add to that normalcy.

the pomegranate is most famously attributed to the greek goddess, persephone. though versions of the story differ: with some saying persephone was tricked into eating pomegranate seeds to be trapped in the underworld, && some saying she willingly chose to eat the seeds. pomegranate's have a hard exterior that is tough to crack. your hard shell is a natural protectant && keeps you safe from those that only wish to use you. internally you are rich with bounties. you believe in living your life passionately and vibrantly. the idea of surrendering to a fate of being confined to anything, whether it be a relationship, a job, or family dynamic where you are not happy && lack agency is a terrifying prospect. it is fears like this which also prevent you from opening up and showing vulnerability to those around you. however, like the pomegranate whose seeds sparkle like gemstones, you hide inside your incredible beauty that only the most worthy deserve to see.
