36 Dead In Heavy Rains Landslides In 4 Northeast States
At Least 27 people were killed in Mizoram, including 21 in a quarry collapse in Aizawl district. Guwahati: At least 36 people were killed in heavy rains and landslides in four northeastern states on Tuesday under the impact of Cyclone Remal while normal life came to a grinding halt in all the eight states of the region with road and rail links affected, officials said. While 27 people were killed in Mizoram, including 21 in a quarry collapse in Aizawl district, four deaths were reported in Nagaland, three in Assam, and two in Meghalaya. The rains, accompanied by gusty winds, triggered landslides, uprooted trees and electric poles, and disrupted power and internet services. In view of waterlogging between the New Haflong-Jatinga Lampur section and Ditokcherra yard under the Lumding division of Northeast Frontier Railway, many trains were either cancelled or partially cancelled and rescheduled. In Mizoram, at least 27 people, including 21 in a collapsed stone quarry, were killed and 10 others were missing in multiple landslides in Aizawl district. Disaster management and police officials said that 21 bodies had been recovered so far from the quarry site between Melthum and Hlimen in the Aizawl while several others were still trapped under the debris following the collapse in the morning. Six died and many others were missing following incidents of landslides at Salem, Aibawk, Lungsei, Kelsih, and Falkawn in the district. In Nagaland, at least four people died in different incidents while more than 40 houses have been damaged in various parts of the state. A minor boy drowned at a river near Laruri village under the Meluri subdivision of Phek district, while two other incidents of drowning were reported from Doyang Dam in the Wokha district, an official said. An elderly man was crushed to death after a wall collapsed in Phek. In Assam, three persons were killed while 17 others were injured in Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), and Morigaon districts. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a tree branch fell on a school bus in Dhekiajuli of Sonitpur district, injuring 12 students. Five others were injured in different incidents in Morigaon. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed grief over the loss of lives. ASDMA officials said that heavy storms occurred in the Bongaigaon, Chirang, Darrang, Dhubri, Hojai, Kamrup, Kamrup Metro, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sonitpur, South Salmara and West Karbi Anglong districts. In Meghalaya, two persons died and over 100 others were injured as heavy rain lashed the state, officials said on Tuesday. Officials said one death was reported from East Jaintia Hills and another in a car accident in East Khasi Hills district. The relentless downpour damaged a large number of houses in 17 villages. Landslides were reported on the Shillong-Mawlai Bypass and at Bivar Road in Oakland, while flashfloods took place in Langkyrding, Pynthorbah, Polo, Sawfurlong, and Demseiniong areas. In Tripura, heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds of 50 to 60 km per hour lashed most parts of the state during the past 24 hours, damaging 470 houses and forcing 750 people to take shelter in 15 relief camps in different districts. Briefing media in Agartala, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushant Chowdhury said that during the past 24 hours, the state recorded an average of 215.5 mm rainfall with Unakoti district recording the highest, at 252.4 mm. In Arunachal Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a high alert with a forecast of extremely heavy rainfall. Chief Minister Pema Khandu requested the people to take all precautionary measures and avoid vulnerable and isolated locations. At the Lumding Learning Centre in Assam, tribal children engage in daily activities like reading and listening to village elders' stories. The center also provides meals and shelter for mothers affected by domestic violence. Led by Ananya Paul Dodmani, founder of Tribal Connect, this center is one of 160 across Northeast India, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Goa, empowering indigenous communities.
Ananya's journey began in school, noticing disparities between her and her tribal friends' lifestyles. In 8th grade, she became more aware of her privileges when many friends didn't return after summer break due to malaria. An incident involving a tribal woman being deceived by a shopkeeper inspired Ananya to teach basic skills like recognizing money and reading bus numbers.
She started by teaching local kids in an empty school space, soon joined by classmates. They traveled across Northeast India, raising funds through cultural events and sports. In college, Ananya encouraged professors to include these children in exchange programs.
A life-changing incident solidified her commitment to tribal upliftment. Recognizing the need for greater impact, she established her first learning center in the village where her father had been kidnapped. With limited resources, she shared her vision with the village headman. Despite skepticism, she began teaching five children under a banyan tree in 2003.
Today, over 160 learning centers across India follow this approach, with the organization formally established in 2019. Ananya's story embodies courage and determination as she works tirelessly to uplift and empower marginalized indigenous communities. Today, her impact is felt in the lives of countless children who now have access to education and a brighter future.

PM Modi launches railway projects, methanol plant in Assam
The new railway projects rolled out by him are Digaru-Lumding and Gauripur-Abhayapuri sections, while doubling of tracks between New Bongaigaon and Dhup Dhara was also inaugurated.
Tumblr media
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday rolled out a series of railway projects across the Northeast, besides commissioning a methanol plant and laying the foundation stone for a bridge over the Brahmaputra river.
Modi virtually inaugurated the five railway works along with other projects from the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, where he is on a day-long tour.
Electrification of the Raninagar-Jalpaiguri-Guwahati, Senchoa-Silghat and Senchoa-Mairabari sections was also launched by Modi. The total cost of these projects is Rs 7,300 crore.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Palasbari-Sualkuchi bridge over the Brahmaputra river. It will be constructed at an expenditure of Rs 3,200 crore over the next 3-4 years.
The state government has already received environmental and other clearances from various agencies for starting the construction work.
Modi also virtually commissioned a methanol plant at Namrup in Dibrugarh by Assam Petrochemicals Ltd (APL) with 500 tonnes per day (TPD) capacity, constructed at an investment of Rs 1,709 crore.
In this plant, the Assam government has a 51 per cent stake and 49 per cent is held by Oil India. After commissioning, APL will be able to sell methanol to other states as well as export to neighbouring countries.
The fourth project launched by Modi is the Rs 124-crore beautification work of the ‘Rang Ghar’, an amphitheatre built by Ahom King Pramatta Singha in the 18th century. This two-storied oval-shaped pavilion in Sivasagar is one of the largest of its kind in Asia.
The Prime Minister also witnessed a mega Bihu dance, organised to globally showcase the folk dance form as a mascot of cultural identity and life of the Assamese people.
This event featured more than 11,000 dancers and drummers in a single venue. After a performance on Thursday, the Bihu recital made two Guinness World Records — the largest Bihu dance performance in a single venue and the largest ‘dhol’ recital in a single venue.

How can we save wildlife from roadkills?
Piercing through precious wildlife habitats, linear infrastructure like roads, railway lines, electricity transmission lines, canals and pipelines are altering habitat structure. They even threaten the survival of many species. India being a developing country, a delicate balance needs to maintained between development and protecting the natural environment. Studies estimate that globally more than 3,00,000 km of new railway tracks and 25 million km of roads will be built by 2050 (1). In India, about 50,000 km of road projects have been identified. These are to be completed in the next 5-6 years, with about 20,000 km passing through forests (4). Species like elephants, tigers and leopards are killed along roads and railway lines. Roads have a plethora of other indirect ecological consequences. Moreover, roadkill is one of the biggest threat to wildlife conservation.
The ‘critically endangered’ Great Indian Bustard (GIB) is facing extinction due to collision with electric power lines over its grassland habitat. Surveys conducted in the Thar area for by the Wildlife Institute of India, found 289 carcasses of 30 species including that of the GIB (2). Furthermore, powerlines are catalyzing the destruction of grasslands, through the spread of invasive species. With an annual growth rate of 5% (1), power transmission line network is expanding at an unprecedented rate.
With the linear infrastructure expansion mitigation measures is crucial maintaining habitat connectivity. This t will ensure gene flow; reduce wildlife mortality and human- wildlife conflict.
Structural Mitigation
Structural solutions like overpasses, underpasses and flyovers (the entire road/ railway line is elevated on pillars to allow safe passage of animals) can be constructed along the roads and/or railway lines (3). This has prevented scores of roadkill around the world.
The Famous NH44 Wildlife Underpass – A Hope for Roadkill
One of the most successful wildlife mitigation structures constructed in India is that on the NH-44 section that passes through the Pench Tiger Reserve. The stretch of underpass is 750km- the longest wildlife mitigation structure in India (6). The work on this section by NHAI began in 2010, but it was only after opposition by animal activists and legal intervention, did in 2015, the mitigation structure construction began. (6). A study by the Wildlife Institute of India (4) found 18 different wild species using the underpass(5). This includes 11 tigers. Even reptiles like monitor lizards were observed using these underpasses (5). Camera Traps along with continuous monitoring was done along various Minor Bridges and Animal Underpasses. (4).
Other examples include- upgrading NH-72 passing through Rajaji National Park with flyover for vehicles (3). The underpasses here are used by elephants, leopards etc. Also, fences are being constructed to channel wildlife towards the underpasses (3). Along the NH- 37 passing along the boundary of Kaziranga National Park, four major wildlife corridors are constructed, which are regularly used by wildlife, especially elephants (3). Also, along NH- 54E passing through Lumding Reserve Forest, Assam, flyover underpasses, minor underpasses and culverts for reptiles and other wildlife has been constructed (3). 1.5 m high opaque fencing has also been constructed to reduce light and sound pollution (3).https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-5018714880587597&output=html&h=280&adk=1806198667&adf=2132998929&pi=t.aa~a.4248256546~i.21~rp.4&w=1200&fwrn=4&fwrnh=100&lmt=1666877023&num_ads=1&rafmt=1&armr=3&sem=mc&pwprc=8184356145&ad_type=text_image&format=1200x280&url=https%3A%2F%2Fthinkwildlifefoundation.com%2Fwhat-are-some-solutions-to-roadkill%2F&host=ca-host-pub-2644536267352236&fwr=0&pra=3&rh=200&rw=1200&rpe=1&resp_fmts=3&wgl=1&fa=27&uach=WyJXaW5kb3dzIiwiMTQuMC4wIiwieDg2IiwiIiwiMTA2LjAuNTI0OS4xMTkiLFtdLGZhbHNlLG51bGwsIjY0IixbWyJDaHJvbWl1bSIsIjEwNi4wLjUyNDkuMTE5Il0sWyJHb29nbGUgQ2hyb21lIiwiMTA2LjAuNTI0OS4xMTkiXSxbIk5vdDtBPUJyYW5kIiwiOTkuMC4wLjAiXV0sZmFsc2Vd&dt=1666877020469&bpp=1&bdt=1659&idt=1&shv=r20221025&mjsv=m202210180101&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3Dc16dd66c7ea556ff-22c0187311d400d6%3AT%3D1656407321%3ART%3D1656407321%3AS%3DALNI_MbZV_Ilx23V3ARXkjuv_LfmtBv7fQ&gpic=UID%3D000009d34f468bb2%3AT%3D1663776528%3ART%3D1666876938%3AS%3DALNI_MYD1CUvxhTz9abJ62JCr45zfR8V7w&prev_fmts=0x0%2C1200x280&nras=3&correlator=3773319560610&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=1606887417.1631528949&ga_sid=1666877020&ga_hid=31042352&ga_fc=1&u_tz=60&u_his=1&u_h=864&u_w=1536&u_ah=816&u_aw=1536&u_cd=24&u_sd=1&dmc=8&adx=350&ady=2404&biw=1899&bih=932&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&eid=44759876%2C44759927%2C44759842%2C44767668%2C42531706%2C44775017&oid=2&pvsid=912460671715233&tmod=608832439&uas=0&nvt=1&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fthinkwildlifefoundation.com%2Fblog%2Fpage%2F6%2F&eae=0&fc=1408&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C1536%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C1920%2C932&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7Cs%7C&abl=NS&fu=128&bc=31&ifi=3&uci=a!3&btvi=1&fsb=1&xpc=YUN7zB3lEY&p=https%3A//thinkwildlifefoundation.com&dtd=3450
An example of structural mitigation measure for railway lines is the Chittagong- Cox’s bazaar railway in Bangladesh (3). Along three different PAs, overpasses along with fences have been constructed for safe crossing of wild animals (3).
Other Examples of Structural Mitigation
In case of electric power lines passing through wildlife habitat, the structural solution is making them underground. Avoiding construction of power lines in crucial wildlife habitat will be the best solution, however, retrofitting of existing overhead power lines with bird diverters depending upon the voltage (2), will help in reducing bird mortality.
Other structural measures like natural canopy connectivity and crossing nets for arboreal species and culverts for small animal species like reptiles, small mammals etc. ensures habitat connectivity for all taxa.
Non Structural Mitigation
Non- Structural mitigation measures are early warning systems that help in determining the presence of any species along roads, railways etc. (1). Animal detection system using lidar, radar or microwaves can be used to alert trains in the vicinity to avoid collision (1). Also, the animal can be alerted of an incoming train by using flash systems depending upon the target species (1).
A company in Bhutan developed a passive sensor that detects animal movement and triggers sound and light system to deter elephants (3). Seismic sensors are developed along the railway tracks of Rajaji National Park to detect elephants and alert train drivers (3). In the Lumding Reserve Forest of Assam, warning signs and speed bumps in critical movement areas of elephants have been established. (3) Along with construction of underpasses; their maintenance is equally important. Some of the ways include- By levelling/merging them the surroundings, plantation of shrubs/grasses and daily patrolling by forest guards, close approach to the main highway for common people by plantation of thorny bushes (eg. Zizyphus), weekly cleaning of the underpasses etc. (5).https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-5018714880587597&output=html&h=280&adk=1806198667&adf=3736376298&pi=t.aa~a.4248256546~i.35~rp.4&w=1200&fwrn=4&fwrnh=100&lmt=1666877023&num_ads=1&rafmt=1&armr=3&sem=mc&pwprc=8184356145&ad_type=text_image&format=1200x280&url=https%3A%2F%2Fthinkwildlifefoundation.com%2Fwhat-are-some-solutions-to-roadkill%2F&host=ca-host-pub-2644536267352236&fwr=0&pra=3&rh=200&rw=1200&rpe=1&resp_fmts=3&wgl=1&fa=27&uach=WyJXaW5kb3dzIiwiMTQuMC4wIiwieDg2IiwiIiwiMTA2LjAuNTI0OS4xMTkiLFtdLGZhbHNlLG51bGwsIjY0IixbWyJDaHJvbWl1bSIsIjEwNi4wLjUyNDkuMTE5Il0sWyJHb29nbGUgQ2hyb21lIiwiMTA2LjAuNTI0OS4xMTkiXSxbIk5vdDtBPUJyYW5kIiwiOTkuMC4wLjAiXV0sZmFsc2Vd&dt=1666877020472&bpp=1&bdt=1661&idt=0&shv=r20221025&mjsv=m202210180101&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3Dc16dd66c7ea556ff-22c0187311d400d6%3AT%3D1656407321%3ART%3D1656407321%3AS%3DALNI_MbZV_Ilx23V3ARXkjuv_LfmtBv7fQ&gpic=UID%3D000009d34f468bb2%3AT%3D1663776528%3ART%3D1666876938%3AS%3DALNI_MYD1CUvxhTz9abJ62JCr45zfR8V7w&prev_fmts=0x0%2C1200x280%2C1200x280&nras=4&correlator=3773319560610&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=1606887417.1631528949&ga_sid=1666877020&ga_hid=31042352&ga_fc=1&u_tz=60&u_his=1&u_h=864&u_w=1536&u_ah=816&u_aw=1536&u_cd=24&u_sd=1&dmc=8&adx=350&ady=3439&biw=1899&bih=932&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&eid=44759876%2C44759927%2C44759842%2C44767668%2C42531706%2C44775017&oid=2&pvsid=912460671715233&tmod=608832439&uas=0&nvt=1&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fthinkwildlifefoundation.com%2Fblog%2Fpage%2F6%2F&eae=0&fc=1408&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C1536%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C1920%2C932&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7Cs%7C&abl=NS&fu=128&bc=31&ifi=4&uci=a!4&btvi=2&fsb=1&xpc=RPPNm3Txsl&p=https%3A//thinkwildlifefoundation.com&dtd=3473
Also, signboards indicating the presence of wild animals need to be erected for people to know about the presence of wild species so that they can act accordingly.  A maximum of 2-3 colors (preferably only green and black), with silhouettes of representative animals and minimal text can be used on these boards to increase its visibility. Reflective material (radium) may be used (3).
Extensive Research required before adding Mitigation Structures
Sign Surveys (7): To identify specific animal crossing zones; sign surveys include determining animal signs like pellets, scats, pug/ hoof marks or even direct animal sighting (7). This is then mapped using GIS to determine areas frequented by wild animals.
Identification of hotspots of animal deaths (7): This includes determining the number of roadkill along with evaluation of road visibility and animal detection ability of the driver (7).
Vehicular speed (7): Determining vehicular speed along with traffic heterogeneity and volume is important for understanding the barrier effect (reduction of animal movements across roads due to traffic, noise, pollution, human activities and physical barriers like fences.) (7)
Designing of wildlife crossings suitable for the animal species in the landscape (7): Based on roadkill data, GIS based movement model, capture- mark- recapture, genetic sampling, adjacent land- use etc. best locations for wildlife crossing structures is determined (7).
Camera trapping: One of the most efficient methods for monitoring of wildlife passes and data collection.
Linear infrastructure like canals and pipelines act as source of pollution and favors the spread of invasive species. They also reduce connectivity between populations of wild species. Hence, proper mitigation measures are needed during their establishment.
Biodiversity loss is now globally recognized to be a major threat to the world. With the current rate of linear infrastructure buildup, we need to ensure that this doesn’t gets exacerbated. It is the collaboration wildlife scientists, engineers, architects, politicians and the citizens that we can ensure that mitigation measures are developed and most importantly maintained for all of us- humans and the wild species to survive in the long run. We have to ensure that we limit how much habitat fragmentation linear infrastructure causes. This is critical as habitat fragmentation catalyses the spread of invasive species.

[rated G below] [WIP ZONE]
It goes like this: Already close friends, they grow even closer, start "living in each other's pockets", a human world phrase that Lilith picks up and teasingly bestows upon them. Lucifer's never sure who, but someone starts calling them Simeon-and-Lucifer, as though it's all one name, as though the two of them are one entity, and it spreads until all of the seraphs and quite a few of the lesser angels and even Michael himself are calling them that in lighthearted jest. "I think it's cute," Simeon says when Lucifer complains to him about it.
Lucifer sighs and shakes his head. "Of course you do." "Why don't you?" Simeon asks curiously, putting his hand over Lucifer's where it's tucked into Simeon's elbow. Lucifer thinks about it. "It's…" A pair of angels comes by on the garden path, so Simeon smiles and greets them, like he always does. "Simeon-and-Lucifer, greetings!" they say. "Hello, Edith-and-Anais!" Simeon says back, gently teasing, making the other two laugh. "Out for an evening constitutional? Oh, by the way --" he stops on the path, forcing Lucifer to stop with him. "Anais, how fares your sister?" "Much better, thank you, Simeon," Anais says warmly. "After you came to speak with her last week, she took your advice to heart and is feeling better and better with every day that passes." "That's wonderful!" Simeon says, radiant in his sincerity. "And Edith, you may need to remind me to finish that book -- I confess I keep getting distracted by other texts lately." "You mean you've been distracted by that new human world play that's been making the rounds," Edith teases, and Simeon laughs a little, rubbing the back of his neck bashfully. "I'll certainly remind you to finish that book, though," she says easily, "as I'd quite like to hear your opinion on it. However, hold onto it as long as you like." "Much appreciated, Edith," Simeon says warmly. "Have a good evening, you two." And he turns away to keep going down the path, towing Lucifer willingly along, like it's just that easy to engage and then disengage from a conversation, like the boundaries of it are just that obvious. Lucifer just nods at the other angels as they pass; they nod back, perfectly cordial but not warm. He really doesn't know how Simeon does it. "You were saying, Lucifer?" Simeon asks, a moment later. This is why Lucifer can never quite manage to be upset at Simeon interrupting their conversation to briefly socialize with others. He always, always picks back up where they left off, never losing the thread of their conversation. Sometimes the pause is even helpful, giving Lucifer time to think something over. "You and I are very different angels," Lucifer says, finally. "You're radiant and charming and charismatic. You know everyone --" "Not everyone," Simeon protests. "-- and everyone is always so pleased to speak with you." Lucifer shakes his head again. "We're very different, and yet they call us Simeon-and-Lucifer as though we're one and the same." "Hmm." Simeon looks at him thoughtfully. "You're right, we are quite different, though not in the ways that you imply," he says. "For you are also radiant, and charming, and you are thoughtful and industrious." "I see you don't think I'm charismatic," Lucifer notes dryly. "I wouldn't lie to you like that, Lucifer," Simeon says, holding a straight face for all of a second and a half before he laughs at his own joke, and Lucifer chuckles too in spite of himself. "In all seriousness, though," Simeon says, still smiling merrily, "everyone I know would love to converse with you as well. They just find you intimidating." Lucifer frowns. "I'm not intimidating." Simeon points his finger right in Lucifer's face. Lucifer blinks and tries to lean back out of range, but Simeon follows him with that accusatory finger until he can poke Lucifer right in the forehead. "Hey!" "That," Simeon says. "That frown right there, that's exactly why angels think you're intimidating." Lucifer starts to frown again, feels it happening, tries to stop it and smooth out his brow again, but it doesn't really work. Simeon laughs at him. "Oh, heavens, I wish you could see how ridiculous you look right now," he says, chortling. Lucifer gives up and scowls at him, which instantly feels more natural. Simeon smiles back, and Lucifer suddenly realizes that it's always been this way: him frowning, in frustration or consternation or just thoughtfulness, and Simeon smiling back.
"Okay, listen to me now, Lucy," Simeon says. "Simeon," Lucifer hisses, looking around the walled garden. Fortunately, there's no one around to overhear that ridiculous nickname. "Listen," Simeon insists, putting his hand on Lucifer's shoulder. "You and I are very different, Lucy, and that's why I love you. You're quiet and focused and proud, and I'm --" "A social butterfly, and easily distracted, and also proud," Lucifer puts in, to make Simeon roll his eyes. "-- so we complement each other," Simeon finishes. "Simeon-and-Lucifer. It's not that they think we're one and the same. No. We're two halves of a pair. Complementary." "Complementary," Lucifer repeats, thoughtfully. He keeps thinking about it, even after they walk on. Complementary, half of a whole, with Simeon being the matching other part. It sounds right. "Hey," he says, when they arrive at the bridge with the best evening view over the lake. Simeon turns and leans back against the railing while Lucifer rests his forearms on it beside him. "What is it?" Simeon asks, concern creasing his brow a little. It's Lucifer's turn to smile back at him. "I love you too, Sim." And the radiance of Simeon's beaming smile nearly blinds him.
---
It goes like this: “Can we be friends again?” Simeon asks bluntly, one day after a lecture on Rowa-period Devildom law. Lucifer has always appreciated directness; becoming a demon clearly hasn’t changed that. Lucifer pauses in the middle of holding the door for him. They’re the last two people in the classroom. “I -- yes,” Lucifer replies, blinking in surprise, then frowning. And that -- finally, that’s a look that Simeon knows how to read. “Did you think I wouldn’t want to?” Simeon asks, eyebrows going up. Lucifer pushes the door closed. He gives Simeon a long look. “Yes,” he says frankly. “We didn’t exactly part on good terms, if you recall.” Simeon laughs nervously, putting a hand to the side of his neck. In truth, he had almost forgotten, in a way. In the intervening eons, he had made a habit of boxing up the memory of that final altercation and hiding it away, to dwell on the fond memories instead. To wield them like shining shields against the intrusive thoughts that always tried to insist it’s your fault and you should have chosen differently and you’ve lost him forever. “I -- I recall,” he says weakly. Lucifer just keeps looking at him. So Simeon takes a deep breath, calls up his courage, and starts talking. He tells Lucifer everything, every thought of regret or sorrow or longing that he’s had since that last conversation in the Celestial Realm. He tells Lucifer everything he’s wanted to say to him in all those empty eons of being apart, everything he’s wanted to say to him in all these aching days of being near. He says I’m sorry (I don’t regret the part I played, but I’m sorry anyway). He says I missed you (I love you, I missed you). And then he says nothing when Lucifer raises a hand to stop him, his other hand over his mouth and his cheeks tingeing pink and his eyes bright and wet with something that could be joy or sorrow or both. And then Lucifer embraces him, and he says nothing at all because his breath is caught in his throat and his temple is pressed against Lucifer’s jaw and his nose is touching the high collar of Lucifer’s uniform shirt, and Lucifer is saying, “I missed you, too.”
