turning 25 is so strange. i feel like i’ve lived so much yet everything seems to have just started. i remember being five and frolicking through my dada’s khet, climbing trees and playing lukka chuppi. my dadi would apply surma on my waterline & mehendi on my palms while humming folk tunes. 10 was even more fun as we moved away from my ancestral home into a bigger house of our own. i would spend my days watching senseless television with my sisters getting to know them even more closely. out on our terrace we wish upon shooting stars like kajol from some movie. i’m glad i didn’t know this then, that after 12 a girl is no longer a girl but an entity. as an incomplete being, she travels towards a different reality. but it’s not until a decade passes that she becomes whole and gains that kind of agency. by 15 things had changed drastically. the world became very bleak and constantly changing. my girlhood was slipping from my fingers and everyone was teaching me to be more careful. a rage had started to brew in the pit of my stomach. with that kind of fury, i could’ve burnt villages and cities. 20 was tormenting. i was almost a woman but still a girl. love and hatred claimed me equally as i swayed from one side to the other constantly. a lot of lessons and choices were thrown in my face until i dealt with them diligently. but 25 has arrived in all its glory. liberation permeates through every part of my being. finally, the colors have returned, bringing along an array of fragrances and melodies. i realize now that everything that happened was just to bring me to this moment. oh, how glad I am that it did!

Inside the Mind of a Genius: The Musical Techniques of AR Rahman
AR Rahman is more than a name in the music industry; he's a phenomenon, a pioneer whose work has continuously pushed the boundaries of what music can achieve. His approach to composition, production, and sound engineering set him apart as an innovator and creative genius. Often described as a "Mozart of Madras," Rahman has not only transformed the Indian music industry but has also introduced the world to an entirely new sound that bridges various musical traditions. This article explores the distinctive techniques and unique approach that Rahman employs to craft his mesmerizing compositions.
Blending of Genres and Cultural Sounds
One of AR Rahman’s hallmarks is his seamless blend of genres and sounds from across the globe. His compositions often incorporate elements of Indian classical music, jazz, electronic, rock, and Western classical music, creating a fusion that is unmistakably his. This diversity in sound is not just a matter of adding different instruments or tones; Rahman’s technique lies in blending these elements in a way that feels organic and cohesive.
For example, his famous song “Chaiyya Chaiyya” from the movie Dil Se includes Sufi-inspired vocals and percussive beats layered with orchestral strings. By pairing these distinct elements, he crafts a piece that feels both ancient and contemporary, bridging traditional and modern sounds. His music reflects India’s diversity, but its universal appeal transcends geographical boundaries.
Use of Layering and Complex Arrangements
Another essential technique in Rahman’s music is his intricate layering of sounds. He doesn’t merely rely on one melody or a repetitive rhythm; instead, he carefully arranges layers upon layers of sound, creating a rich, immersive auditory experience. In many of his tracks, listeners can hear different instruments and harmonies emerging with each listen, revealing hidden textures and subtleties.
In his song “Taal Se Taal Mila” from Taal, he uses a combination of tabla, electric guitar, and flute, interwoven with choral harmonies and vocals, all arranged with precise attention to detail. Each layer complements the other, resulting in a composition that is almost orchestral in its complexity. The layering is done in such a way that it doesn’t overwhelm but enhances the listening experience, allowing listeners to immerse themselves fully in the world he creates.
Experimentation with Unconventional Instruments
One of Rahman’s distinguishing factors is his willingness to experiment with unconventional instruments and sounds, creating novel auditory experiences. From using electronic sounds to African djembe drums, Rahman doesn’t limit himself to traditional Indian or Western instruments. His song “Jai Ho,” which won an Academy Award for Slumdog Millionaire, features a mix of orchestral elements, electronic sounds, and Indian percussions, creating an uplifting anthem that resonated worldwide.
In Lagaan, for instance, Rahman incorporates instruments like the tambourine and tabla but also uses synthesized beats and sounds to elevate the film’s period feel. He often experiments with obscure or ethnic instruments, making them accessible to a global audience and proving that music, at its core, is a universal language.
Creating Emotionally Resonant Melodies
Rahman’s genius also lies in his ability to create emotionally resonant melodies that connect deeply with listeners. His compositions are often designed to evoke specific emotions, blending technical expertise with an intuitive understanding of human emotions. Whether it’s the haunting sadness in “Lukka Chuppi” from Rang De Basanti or the joyous energy in “Mukkala Mukkabala” from Kadhalan, Rahman’s music has an unmatched emotional depth.
In “Kun Faya Kun” from Rockstar, Rahman employs Sufi-inspired melodies that invoke a sense of devotion and surrender. The repetition of lines and subtle crescendos creates a trance-like effect, immersing the listener in a spiritual journey. Rahman’s ability to convey emotions through melodies alone shows his remarkable talent for connecting music with the soul.
Digital Innovation and Sound Engineering
Rahman has consistently embraced technology, positioning himself as a leader in digital music production in India. He is known for his state-of-the-art recording techniques, and he was one of the first in India to adopt computer-based recording setups. His work with digital audio workstations allows him to layer tracks with pinpoint accuracy and blend electronic sounds with acoustic ones, producing a polished, cinematic quality.
Rahman’s use of electronic tools also allows him to manipulate sounds in ways that create a unique auditory landscape. For instance, his album Connections incorporates electronic beats and digital reverb, adding a futuristic quality to his music. His technical skill, combined with his musical expertise, allows him to produce tracks that sound fresh, even after repeated listening.
Working with Vocal Layers and Harmonies
Rahman’s approach to vocal arrangements is another aspect of his musical technique that deserves attention. He often uses multi-layered harmonies to enhance the emotional impact of his songs. By layering different voices, each with its tone and texture, Rahman adds a depth that amplifies the song’s overall effect. He is known for creating complex harmonies, especially in songs where he works with choirs or multiple vocalists.
In songs like “Vande Mataram,” Rahman combines voices from different ranges, blending them seamlessly to produce a powerful anthem. This layering technique can also be heard in his work with playback singers; he knows precisely when to add backing vocals and harmonies to enhance the lead singer’s voice without overpowering it.
Conclusion
AR Rahman’s musical techniques are as diverse as they are masterful. His approach—combining genres, layering sounds, experimenting with instruments, and using innovative recording methods—has redefined music for generations. Rahman’s work transcends traditional music-making; it is a deep, immersive experience that appeals to listeners worldwide, irrespective of language or culture. His compositions are not only groundbreaking for their technical excellence but also for their emotional impact, making Rahman one of the most influential composers in modern music.

Rashmi gets distraught and advises everybody to quit hollering at Guddu and that it wasn't his deficiency and that she needed to be in a live-in relationship. Guddu discloses to Trivedi that the motivation behind why Trivedi continues losing the races is on the grounds that the new age needs numerous things, for example, live seeing someone and will offer votes to individuals who really need to help them. Trivedi concurs and everybody gets Guddu and Rashmi at long last wedded. Luka Chuppi Review (No Spoilers): The Rare Romance Where the Hero and Heroine Never Fight
Luka Chuppi Review (No Spoilers): The Rare Romance Where the Hero and Heroine Never Fight
Tumblr media
What a nice little romance! Not totally awesome and stunning, but decent. And with an unfortunately slightly dated political message that I will be ignoring because it doesn’t really work at this exact moment. But the romance part is definitely decent, especially how it handles the whole “live-in” topic.

Hii it's @bishh-kanya
How are you doing 🤍
1. what’s your aesthetic?
8. describe your taste in music?
9. who do you love the most in this world?
16. are you religious or spiritual?
17. your favourite book(s)?
For the asks 🤍
hey bunny boo, thanks for the ask!!!
i'm hanging in there, i wrote like 5k words in one day and was gonna complete it the next day but came down with fever symptoms (writer's block doesn't distinguish between physical and mental lol)
anyway how are YOU??
- 1 -
my aesthetic is currently Madhuravani from the movie Mahanati. She's a journalist just unsure of herself but confident in her writing abilities (lol remind you of anyone?) my aesthetic irl is sort of... messy? like i still live with my parents and have to wear my mom's hawaii-like chudidaars so i dont really have space for my own taste(??) but if i had the mental patience and physical space for an aesthetic, i'd say i'd be the baby pink/lavender hued, always in pjs with jhumkas and payal, hair up and stray wisps doing a desi Daphne Bridgerton on my forehead... yeah, also don't forget surrounded by food and always dancing to music
- 8 -
my taste in music... hmm... *pretending this is a celeb interview* i'll say it's erratic and cynical to the new. in the sense, i listen to anything and my brain, without my permission, goes this is the copy of that one song you listened to, it came out in 2005 and you were practically a baby then but you get it. and it turns out to be true. i'm more on the desi (and south) side of the spectrum. i always get into music trends late (like arijit singh was the rave and i liked him.... 5 years after that) but i haven't seen almost any person dissect music the way i tend to do (annoyingly so sometimes). my taste goes like this: - Lata di (duh) - Only some Illayaraja - some arr like lukka chuppi and chaiyya chaiyya - op naiyyar - Camila Cabello - old mani sharma - early shreya - early arijit
- 9 -
i love two people the most in this world.
the person i could be if this wasn't it. maybe some alternate universe where instead of "hamari beti kaise kar sakegi" they'd say "hamari beti kuch bhi kar sakegi".
and the person i will be because this is it. this universe, where they say "hamari beti kaise kar sakegi" and i show them exactly kaise kar sakegi. the person whose means are not that royal but imagination always was.
- 16 -
religious or spiritual?
i think these days my parents and grandparents have confused the both. call me naive, but i consider them both to deal with faith. i'm currently figuring it out like some other things in life. for now i'm leaning towards spiritual.
- 17 -
fav books:
Little Women (Marmie my beloved) by LM Alcott
The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
Malgudi Days by RK Narayan
Triple Dare by CM Owens (yeah sometimes i have crappy taste)
thanks for the asks again hon💌💌

1, 11, 21, 24, 28, 36, 45, 54, 70, 84, 89 for the asks :)
Hi, Rippy akka!
I’ll start from the beginning.
1. 6 of the songs you listen to most?
1. Unkoodave Porakkanum (both versions) from Namma Veetu Pillai
2. Teri Mitti (all three versions) from Kesari
3. Kal Ki Hi Baat Hai from Chichhore
4. Lukka Chuppi from Rang De Basanti
5. Remember from Troy
6. Satham Illatha Thanimai from Amarkalam
11. Do you have any strange phobias?
I...don’t think so? I had a phobia of smallpox as a kid, I have a phobia of marriages, but I don’t think that’s strange.
21. Who is your celebrity crush?
Well, I don’t have the ‘holy hell, he’s hot’ variant of crushes most of the time, I fall for actors who play characters I love. (Most of whom are hot, too, but I’m not the sort who goes all ‘thirsty’) Anyway, for now, I have a crush on Dev Dixit from Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi, aka Shaheer Sheikh.
24. Do you have a collection of anything?
I do! I have a collection of books. I’ve collected books for over 14 years. But I’m not...sure it actually counts?
28. What’s your biggest “what if”?
What if I fail? What if I do not meet my parents’ expectations? What if I can’t make a difference?
This is my worst nightmare of a what-if.
36. Define Art.
Art, for me, is one word. Creation.
45. What’s the worst injury you’ve ever had?
The worst artificial injury I’ve ever had are my surgical injuries. The worst natural one I got was when I was pushed off a climbing contraption for kids. Ended up with a split forehead and a limp for nearly a week.
54. What’s the last thing you purchased?
A packet of sugar, a sharpener and an eraser. #quarantineshopping.
70. Are you the kind of friend you would want to have as a friend?
For the most part, yeah. I think twice before talking to people, because I usually get scared of hurting them. I try to be there for friends whenever I can.
But, there’s an issue with me. There are some topics I am VERY passionate on. Prick one of them, and I’ll hold a grudge for a LONG time if you keep pricking in spite of one warning. One warning is the most you get.
84. What is a saying you say a lot?
Some sayings I use are ‘As you sow, so shall you reap’ and ‘No pain, no gain’ but I don’t think I use them a lot. @medhasree and @ambitiousandcunning would know more about my speech patterns than I myself do, to be honest.
89. What would be a question you’d be afraid to tell the truth on?
I...don’t know, honestly? I’m usually an open book. But ‘stuck between a rock and a hard place’ type questions, probably.
Thank you for such a sweet and thoughtful ask, @rippys-chai!
