Oh shit. I just looked up the beer, Doom Bar, that Luke orders for him and Alice at the end of ep 15. Fun fact, turns out it's named for a treacherous sandbar that has wrecked hundreds of ships...

Ships that were sailing into Padstow. Where episode 11 was set.

With the repeated emphasis on food and drink in Protocol, there's no way that one's a coincidence. Luke Dyer--whether or not you know it yet, you are in it, lad. You are in it much, much too deep.

I know we all think Luke is going to die, because something something Alice and Tim parallels something cool little brother something tragedy but

But Luke seem’s VERY deep/water aligned at the moment, what with “Penny For the Well” and “Dredgerman” being sort of similar to Draegerman, which is a team for underground rescue (assuming that’s related to “the deep”) The origin of the Doom Bar beer brand is also related to the sea and being lured *under* the sea.

A lot of the cases have had a theme of desire and “be careful what you wish for”. I think Luke is going to become an avatar after looking for means of success. Kinda like Griftors Bone but different.

Not to mention i think Luke going bad would hit Alice so hard - that’s her baby brother!!! she has seen him through everything!!! Supported him always!!! He can’t be gone, he wouldn’t turn on her!!!

Luke is likely in his early to mid 20s being his his “Young And Unsustainable Band Life” kinda time in his life and it's been about a 8-10 years since Sam and Alice were in Uni which means Alice's parents died somewhere in that time likely 3-5 years ago just from the way it's talked abt be it seems like enough time has passed where it has healed a little bit

So it was likely Luke was still a teenager or at the most like 20 when their parents died

Alice was left with a teen or young adult little brother and there isn't any mention of extended family so it's not confirmed if there were any that supported them or not but there's a good chance she was on her own or at least a good amount of the responsibility was on her shoulders with taking care of Luke as well as grieving while only being in her mid to late 20s herself

OF FUCKING COURSE she's going keep a white knuckle grip on anyone close to her especially if she thinks they may be getting themselves into danger

So Luke is in one band named "Dredgerman" and another named "Penny for the Well." One hauling things up from the deep, and another casting down small offerings into the deep in exchange for a wish or good luck. And it sure seems to be working, with packed houses and extra tour stops. Awesome! All the bargains we've heard made on this show have worked out SO WELL.

And then of course, immediately after attending Luke's most recent...offering?... Alice lands something hauled up from some kind of deep. 🤔

Or two somethings, given the tape recorder. Maybe throwing them back will work, Alice. Maybe it'll be fine.

Random magnus protocol headcanons:

- Gwen has a crusty white dog named Lady.

- Gwen is clearly autistic.

- Elias is Gwen’s weed smoking uncle (I wish he were her brother but uncle makes more sense with the time line.)

- Celia is biracial, Asian and black.

- Celia is a cat person and own multiple cats.

- Celia IS tma Celia and she regularly mentions how she was part of a cult but everyone always assumes she’s joking with how light heartedly she brings it up.

- Luke knows and jokes about Grifters Bone but doesn’t know it is ACTUALLY real.

- Colin is a gay man and is married to a really sweet husband. (I truly believe this until it’s proven other wise.)

- Alice has at some point tried to instal minecraft onto a work computer, it shut down the whole system for a week.

- Needles and Ink5oul are best friends (they serve cunt together.)
