idk if you’d be comfortable writing this but I was wondering if you could whip up an Aphrodite!reader who’s fed up with her beauty. She stops attending school and stays the full term at camp which makes Luke confused. So she tells him about how random dudes would hit on her and be creepy at her school or something. She’d prolly join him with Kronos bc she wants to feel respected for once. Would be such an angsty but filled with femme rage although totally cool if you choose not to write this~ Just wanted to share it with someone 💛
Pairing: Luke Castellan x Aphrodite!Reader
Summary: Maybe you didn't want to be beautiful anymore.
Content: pretty angsty, brief mentions of male harassment but nothing explicit or triggering, again sorry for the wait i had w block pls forgive me. also not proofread sorry yall its been a rough week.
You were only faintly aware of the noise around you.
The chatter of the city was a mere buzz in the back of your head as you marched down the street. It amazed you, really, just how unbelievably dickish mortal boys could be. This one in particular; Mike Schwartz, a five foot something jock who sat on the bench at every game. He’d been a bother in your life since you started high school. Back then, you took the endless prospects as a compliment – you truly were your mother’s daughter. It was a boost to your weak teenage confidence.
But as the years went by, the constant asking for your hand became an irritant. Especially when they couldn’t get the hint – at fourteen, turning down guys felt amazing, but when those same guys kept coming back for more, it made your eye twitch. Couldn’t they take the first no, tuck their tail between their legs and fuck off?
Apparently not.
After four years of putting up with it, you were done. Storming out of the cafeteria, grabbing all your things, hailing a cab and getting the hell outta dodge. Maybe you should’ve stopped to think — called your dad, taken a few deep breaths. But the harder you thought about it, after trying not to for so many years, you came to the conclusion that you would’ve ended up here anyway.
Here being the peak of HalfBlood Hill in the middle of September. It was only slightly unusual, because when you usually arrive at the start of summer you get to watch the crowds of arrivals setting up shop at camp. Now, however, it was fairly desolate. Less people, you knew.
It was also a split second shock when you stepped across the border and felt the drastic change in weather. From the cool breeze of the autumn air to the warm summery spring that camp was in year-round. A shift that made you pause, but you kept on down the hill anyway.
Chiron was waiting for you on the porch of the Big House, and without so much as a word, gestured for you to follow him inside. He was fairly understanding of your situation, but made you Iris Message your dad and tell him of your decision. He, too, was more glad you were safe than angry you ran off.
“We can talk about this when you feel like talking.” He’d said.
So you’d done it. Finally, you’d gotten yourself away from the hey hot stuffs and the you seeing anyone baby?s. You were back at camp, you were where you were most happy.
But you weren’t happy.
Being a year-rounder, you’d discovered, was a lot less busy than being a summer camper. You got more days off, longer breaks between activities. You found yourself spending more time in your own company; something you never really got to do before. Most of the time you were with your siblings, or your mortal friends, or you were being hounded by some frat boy and their friends.
It took a minute to get used to the loneliness, but you did. You explored camp, found places you hadn’t seen before. A cute clearing near a stream on the east side of the forest, or a Satyr sanctuary on the far end of the beach. You read more books, you trained a little harder, you perfected six new hairstyles on your little sister Elena and Annabeth from the Athena Cabin.
And yet, you were still pissed off.
“Why?”
Luke Castellan was a name everyone knew in this little corner of Long Island. One of the oldest campers, head counsellor of the rowdiest cabin, token tour guide for the new kids. Oh, and the best swordsman camp had seen in, like, three centuries. He was cute, that much you’d heard all around your cabin. But you’d never really held a solid conversation with him until you became a year-rounder. The fewer people around, the more you run into him.
You’d been practising a few neat tricks with a dagger when he spotted you. Said he was there to train himself for once and that you wouldn’t even notice he was there. You did, though. Especially when he took his shirt off twenty minutes in.
You shared a water break, he asked you why you’d transferred to being a year rounder, and you indulge him in the story. He was super nice about it too, which made you angry. Was Luke the only nice guy on the planet?
“But at least you’re happier now, right?” He’d said. You weren’t, you told him that much. He gave you this knowing look you’d never seen on him before, and asked Why?
You shrugged, “I don’t know. I love it here, I do. But I shouldn’t have to uproot my entire life and bring it here just to get some semblance of peace. I shouldn’t have to give up my education, my friends, my dad, just so I don’t have to get harassed every day. It’s not even like my mom gave me anything to help combat it, either. She just made me beautiful and told me to deal with the consequences! I mean,” You let out a weak chuckle, holding up the dagger you’d been toying with, “This was a birthday present from a friend in Cabin Six. Not even my mother, who is a warrior herself, could bother sending me a weapon. They really don’t give two shits about us, do they?”
He’d parted his lips, eyes shining with something, and looked at you through his bottom lashes, “No. They don’t.”
You and Luke grew closer after that. A lot closer. By the time summer rolled around and the rest of the campers returned, you were inseparable. Many rumours spread but you two ignored them in favour of sneaking into that clearing you’d found and talking in whispers about your hatred for the gods. Who cared if they could hear you? Let them.
It was Luke who had come up with the idea to steal the bolt. A quick job, in and out, and maybe then they’d listen to what you’d have to say. But they didn’t — they did exactly what they always did and risked the lives of two young demigods and a satyr just because they couldn’t be bothered doing it themselves. Selfish — that’s what they were. They didn’t care about anyone —
“ — but themselves!” You glared at Thalia, who stood before you atop Mount Tamalpais with her spear in your direction. “I mean, look at your dad. He didn’t care enough to stop the monsters from killing you, oh, but it’s okay because he turned you into a damn tree!”
“This isn’t the way!” Annabeth yelled from afar. Her hair was twisted in a style you’d taught her how to do that first year as a year-rounder. It broke your heart that she couldn’t see how right you and Luke were.
“Curse them, Thalia.” You said plainly, holding up your dagger. Half mortal metal, half celestial bronze. A gift from Luke. “Curse your father and his children. His brothers. Curse them all like they deserve to be cursed! They deserve to be toppled.”
You tilted your head, looking at them all. Luke and your army were heading steadily up the mountain. If you could convince them now, there wouldn’t need to be a battle.
“Where are they now, huh?” You raised both your arms, “You’re fighting for your life against a titan on a mountain and the only god who came to help out was Artemis? And that’s just because she was here already.” You scoffed out a laugh, “You should thank us, really, for taking her. Had we not, you’d be dead already.”
Annabeth watched. You were unrecognisable in that moment — your face streaked with dirt and blood, curled into a dark sneer that any of your siblings would berate you for because of the wrinkles you’d get. You didn’t seem to care all that much, though. Not when Thalia was lunging for you and attempting to pull you out of the rage you were in. Not when her spear and shield were no match for your measly dagger and you went toppling down the mountain.
The next time any of them saw you was in Manhattan — after believing you to be dead for a year and a half, it came as a shock when you emerged from the crowd of monsters. Your hair was hacked short, and one of your legs had been replaced with a bronze prosthetic. You fought with a ruthlessness none of them had seen in you before, whether it be because you were on the losing side or because Luke had given his body to the Lord of Time before you had the chance to tell him you loved him. You were still angry, and even if you hated Kronos, you didn’t hate him nearly as much as you hated the gods.
When Luke died, you were kneeled beside him. Your face was dirty, your hair was knotty, and there was a dent in your bronze leg. He lifted a hand to your face, “I’m sorry to have to say this, but…you’re sorta beautiful.”
“Sorta?”
He grinned, and then he died, and you were filled with such unbridled rage that you pushed yourself down to the ground of Manhattan and tore through Kronos’ army with fire in your eyes, not stopping until Apollo got rid of your sight and forced you to calm down. You didn’t know if you’d ever be calm, since the only person who ever understood you just died in your arms, but you dropped your dagger and stomped your way back up to Olympus like a bratty child anyway.
Zeus didn’t punish you for what you did, but he did say he’d be keeping a firm eye on you. You joined the hunters, much to your mothers disdain, and didn’t ever allow yourself to look back.

#premise up for adoption bc Im too busy to do anything more with this #in my head: they go back and live at jackie's house #it's bigger + Jackie's family has the $$ to keep reporters off their property so the girls are safer there #when it’s discovered that jeff is the father. jeff--who was raised right--starts going to school part time #while working full time at the furniture store #soon becoming assistant manager #jackie's parents BEG her to go to rutgers. not to give up her future for a baby that's not even hers #that belongs to the bf and bff who BETRAYED her no less #(jackie stops talking to them for a month. not for bringing up the cheating thing)#(for daring to say that LD isnt hers' too) #jackie does eventually go to Rutgers though #but not bc her mom promises to stop giving shauna a hard time #she decides to go when Shauna finally tells her about applying to Brown and getting her acceptance letter days before they left #they never would've been roommates at Rutgers. she isn't leaving Shauna behind. she never has #shauna makes a joke about having a hot meal ready every day when jackie comes home #jeff saves up enough money for a dowm payment for a nice house with a lawn and a yard #for him shauna&jackie and the baby--BECAUSE HE WAS RAISED RIGHT #he and jackie build a backyard playset for Luke (Dylan's his middle name now. It's also Jeffs mothers maiden name it all worked out) #yes sometimes they have threesomes #no Randy. Jeff's NOT going to talk about it w you #(he was raised right!!!!!) #a few years down the line Shauna gets pregnant again #all 3 sets of parents' heads tilt to the side #but they keep it amongs themselves so they can keep seeing Luke and baby Callie
so a Yellowjackets AU where mari says something to get herself kicked out of the cabin, and she dies of exposure and gets eaten at the bachanalian banquet instead of Jackie, who LIVES, who's there at Shauna's side when she goes into labor, stroking her hair and letting Shauna squeeze her hand hard enough to sprain her fingers, who keeps Shauna calm enough she has a (comparatively!!!!!!) easier delivery, who is the reason the(ir) baby lives.
who finally, after months of feeling adrift and useless because she’s not a hunter or a butcher or a prophet or a captain (anymore) finds her purpose in the wilderness. who painstaking sews patchwork baby onesies and cloth diapers from the girls' spare clothes (Offerings, not donations). who makes a baby sling from animal pelts and backpack straps. who makes a rattle from sticks and pinecones and some light blue pebbles Jackie found by the lake one day and saved. who makes sure the cabin stays warm and clean for Luke Dylan (from 90210--they couldn't decide whether to go with the actor or the character).
who builds them another shelter from blankets and animal hides after the cabin burns down. who keeps shauna and their baby warm through that first terrible winter and the one that followed.
and one day in 1998, Canadian forest rangers happen upon that American high school soccer team that went missing 2 years back. they find a group of starving teens and a baby, a little over a year old, two of the girls wrapped around him--and each other
and when the rescue team tries to separate them the one with tangled, golden brown hair bears her teeth and Growls
#some more things:#misty sends a birthday card every year on Luke's birthday#lotte sends really expensive gifts from FAO Schwartz#and whenever Luke hits a growth spurt they get a package of designer brand kids' clothes and a gift card from TJ Maxx#HOW does lotte know Luke's outgrown all his shirts and went up 2 shoes sizes?? jeff asks every time#she's Lottie. Shuana&Jackie answer#every year on the day Luke was born--#Not his Birthday. the day he was born#the specialists at the hospital had to estimate bc Shauna wouldn't let ANYONE near her journals#only the actual date is a secret between Them and the wilderness--#anyway: every year on the day Luke was born everyone (who can)#gathers at Lotte's secluded wilderness retreat#where they have a bonfire and remember (but don't speak about what)#Shauna&Jackie pass out Luke (and Callie)'s school pictures. pictures from Halloween. Christmas. Mother's Day. the school play#and science fair#the others bring gifts (offerings) for the baby who took his first steps on the cold damp floor of the wilderness#Jeff takes the kids to Six Flags while this is happening#sobriety sticks for Nat and Travis after the 3rd try (5th for Nat)#they get an apartment in the city and watch the kids twice a month to give Jeff and Shauna&Jackie a night off#Luke gets OBSESSED with Legos when he's about 9 (Javi was too)#around the time Shauna gets pregnant with Callie#Travis and Nat help him put them together once his parents get too busy with the baby#NO ONE has the gall to ask Shauna how she feels about this pregnancy compared to her first#Jackie however quips that her hand is grateful for the epidural this time around#in another life: the trauma of labor. of holding her her son in her arms#FEELING him nurse. hearing his cries of life#only to walk on her friends eating him#only to wake up to an even worse truth#ruined motherhood for shauna before callie even came into the world#in this life: shauna's firstborn is the wilderness's benediction

Books That Interpret USAmerica
I'm trying to put together a list of books that interpret the USAmerican life at the individual and community levels. Please add to this list, including only books you have read and finished. I particularly need more books on this list by and about Black and indigenous peoples, but any book about the experience of life as a person living in the US will do. I look forward to expanding my to-read list!
Here is what I have so far:
Evicted, by Matthew Desmond- RE the housing crisis
Temp, by Louis Hyman- RE the staffing crisis
How the Other Half Eats, by Priya Fielding-Singh- RE how food, mother/daughter dynamics, and socioeconomics fit together
Shorting the Grid, by Meredith Angwin- RE the energy crisis and how grid electricity works in the USA
This is Your Mind on Plants, by Michael Pollan- RE the regulation of psychoactive plants
The Omnivore's Dilemma, by Michael Pollan- RE where food comes from
Savage Inequalities, by Jonathan Kozol- RE the severe inequality in the education system
Hyper Education, by Pawan Dhingra- RE pressures placed on children in and beyond the education system
Vaccines Did Not Cause Rachel's Autism, by Peter J Hotez- RE: the fight over vaccines
$2.00 Per Day, by Katheryn J Edin, H Luke Shaefer- RE the lives of people below the international poverty line living in the USA
The Worst Hard Time, by Timothy Egan- RE the great depression
The Velvet Rope Economy, by Nelson D Schwartz- RE how different services and systems serve different levels of socioeconomic status
Janesville, by Amy Goldstein- RE a small town's struggle after losing it's main employer
Indebted, by Caitlin Zaloom- RE the student debt crisis
McMindfulness, by Ronald E Purser- RE how the lack of happiness was pushed on the individual instead of the system
Fat Talk, by Virginia Sole-Smith- RE questioning the source and outcomes of the obesity epidemic
Dopesick, by Beth Macy- RE the opioid crisis

3. The O.C.
4 years later and I'm back. It's safe to say that I'm somewhat of an expert at this show. I rewatch it at least twice a year. Let me just say CINEMATIC ART. Josh Schwartz actually ate down with this one. Okay here's my little spoiler warning -> SPOILERS AHEAD
The first episode is probably one of the best pilot episodes I've ever seen. From the beginning we get angst, we get drama, we get humor. Ugh it's just SO SO GOOD. Like are you joking? I can't even comprehend my thoughts I love this show. "Who are you?" "Whoever you want me to be." LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING. The soundtrack was iconic. The fashion, iconic. Some of the most quotable things. It was the perfect amount of drama for a teen show without going over the top (sorry Riverdale) and it was just so funny.
Character Review:
Marissa Cooper wasn't the worst person in the world, she was just hella misunderstood with a wacky mom and family. She is the human embodiment of a cry for help. Her mother is as they say - Julie Cooper. Although she loves her daughter, she loves status more. Some of her ideas were great, they just lacked in execution. And I know Marissa could be a pain, but she just needed help and love. She should've gotten that psychiatric help. But alas, she stays to add fuel to the fire. What is a teen drama without drama. She is such a nuanced character and I will not stand for the slander (maybe some but like SHE'S NOT ALL BAD CMOONN) She definitely did not deserve to leave the way she did. #rip
Ryan Atwood, the ultimate broody bad boy who's really a softie at heart. Literally could not catch a break. Went to jail (bc his brother wanted to steal a car) His girlfriend shot his brother (and we got a hilarious SNL skit out of it), burned down a staging home (luke's fault but still), got a girl pregnant (allegedly) and then she miscarried (lies), fell in love with Marissa (#rip) always felt like he had to fix everything for everyone (his downfall) became a cage fighter (cuz Marissa #rip) got kicked out of school senior year (cuz of Marissa #rip) came back to school (yay!) (my timeline if fked). I know his need to fix everything for everyone came from having to lock in throughout his childhood, but alas (again) where would the show be without it. Marissa was his real true love, no matter how toxic it was. They were literally written for each other. And super unpopular opinion but his relationship with Taylor near the end was cute! It might've been just what he needed. He was funny unintendedly and I loved the ongoing lore that he couldn't lie to save his life. and he was hot. NEXT
Seth mfking Cohen. I think the thing that got me was that he was just hella charming. He was a little shit, but his charm and humor got him through the show without being absolutely insufferable. Like all characters, he has his flaws but his character was there to make sure we weren't dark and gloomy all the time. I truly hope that after the time jump, he actually became a real person and not just a funny spoiled brat who is now an adult and married the love of his life. Now that I think about it, he didn't ever really have a true character arc, but at least he was goofy and funny. He's a perfectly imperfect character who has a purpose and executes it flawlessly.
Summer Roberts, loml. My favorite character of the series. From season 1, she has an EXPONENTIAL character arc. She turns from certified mean girl to a certified baddie with a heart as big as the sun. She always ate down with her outfits, had insane one liners, and was the one girl to always LOCK INNN when they needed her. When she actually ended up being a genius, I was OBSESSED. I liked how they approached this storyline as opposed to how Glee did it with Brittany. NO NOTES!
My favorite episode of the whole show was the one where they got locked in the mall after sorting clothes for the clothing drive. I love love love when shows do something fun to balance out the dread and drama. Them rolling around with the hockey masks looking like Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th was funny asf.
Rating: 9/10
minus 1 because (shockingly) i did not enjoy season 3. I didn't hate season 4 as much as everyone else, but the most insufferableness occurred during season 3 for me. Like Marissa's public school arc. Like Volchek (UGH) Like Johnny. #rip johnny but like BRUH CHILL OUT> However all the other points because of my favorite tv dad Sandy Cohen for saving the day (except when he cheated on his wife, that was so not cool sandy).

Put together a graphic of how the third and final year of the Pokemon Best Wishes! anime should have gone had there been no disruption.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Important notes about what alterations I’d prefer to see:
- BW100 should end a little differently, as the ending we got felt super rushed and it’d have been better to let the comedy of the whole “wow, literally none of this needed to happen” outcome really sink in.
- Trip would recieve stronger development and better treatment at the Unova League, including the reveal of who his older sister is.
- In BW106, Bianca doesn’t lose to Cameron in the prelim round. She and Cameron have their battle in the same round where Ash and Stephan have theirs. Cameron wins when his Riolu evolves into Lucario and he advances on to face Ash, but this time it only lasts a single episode because he’s rightly disqualified for bringing 5 Pokemon to a 6-on-6 match. Ash advances to face Virgil in the semi-finals but loses to him. Whether or not Virgil then wins the whole Unova League with his Eeveelution team or not, I don’t really care.
- In BW111, Team Rocket is kept away from the twerps when we see they’re back in Unova and we see them catch Frilish and Amoongus. We’d also get a Giovanni and Matori scene alluding to their desire to crush Ash and Pikachu and the recently re-activated Team Plasma.
- BW112 would be the reveal of TR’s new balloon and their first time using their newly caught Pokemon against Ash and friends. When defeated, they fall out of the balloon and into the water below.
- The Aspertia City Gym plot is divided into two episodes, and Cheren actually has a purpose to serve later on down the road.
- Clair would guest star in BW115 and set up Iris’ post-series special. Team Rocket is also featured, battling the twerps and this time fleeing the scene using their jet packs.
- In BW116, Team Rocket fly out of the balloon’s explosion on their jet packs rather than fly into the sky screaming their old catchphrase.
- In BW117, Team Rocket retreats on ther jet packs after their plan has been thwarted rather than make another failed theft attempt.
- The Flower Garden Troupe returns in BW118, it’s Mrs. Chandler’s jewelry that gets stolen by Teaque, and Looker makes a cameo in a call with Tedesco.
- BW119 is Team Plasma’s next appearance and now where we meet Brad/Barret and the grunt squad that’s searching for N. This would be the second appearance of Ghetsis as well.
- BW120 has a Shiny Druddigon caught by Georgia in order to do battle against Iris’ Pokemon, Dragons VS Dragons.
- BW121 now features the finally B-Class Burgundy helping the Striaton triplets protect their Gym.
- BW122 now features a brief cameo from Colress, who Schwartz and Weiss make a call to early on because they’re charged with delivering Pokemon to him for experiments with the Control Device.
- Stephan is now part of BW124 - he was introduced in an episode about Oshawott and its scalchop, so this brings him full circle. Luke is also here filming the tournament since it’s now set at around Poke’ Star Studios in Virbank City. Team Rocket is not included in this version of the story, but N is included.
- Team Rocket is not included in BW125′s version of the story, but N is included. Some illusion N sees makes him flash back to his past.
- In BW126, the Poke’ Pirates are revealed to be Pokemon who were “liberated” from their trainers by Team Plasma, which strikes a chord with N. Team Rocket once again retreats on their jet packs.
- Virgil replaces Alexa in BW128′s version of the story, and N is here. Team Rocket is more capable here and have to be beaten in a true battle, which ends with them getting a “human rockets” style blast-off.
- Colress and Team Plasma return in BW129, and it’s the next time they and Team Rocket clash. We’re also given information about a “Project F” that Ghetsis is having carried out in the east.
- BW130′s version of the story includes N, and Team Rocket once again blasts off using their jet packs.
- Again, N and Team Rocket’s jetpacks are now in the BW131 story.
- N gets lost from the others in BW132, which now explicitly takes place in Mistralton City, and when Pikachu zaps Team Rocket, we’re once again given the “human rockets” style blast-off for them.
- The city featured in BW133 is now (still) Mistralton City.
- The placement of BW135 would put it at July 4, the week before a certain movie featuring a certain Pokemon that’s seen in this very episode would hit theaters. That’s how it was supposed to go.
- BW136 is set in Iccirus City and has Cheren’s earlier presence pay off when he’s visiting and meets Bianca in her final appearance. After helping Bianca decide where she wants to take her life, Cheren reveals old glasses he used to wear and gives them to Bianca, a cute shout out to B2W2. We also get scenes of Team Plasma plotting.
- The White Ruins three-parter gets its ending changed so that in addition to the Charizard VS Reshiram battle we were promised in the opening, Reshiram’s fury after the Control Device is destroyed is not talked down and it flies towards Dragonspiral Tower. This initiates a new two-parter where Team Plasma boards their newly completed flying frigate to try and freeze Reshiram solid in order to re-capture it, Cedric Juniper brings out the Golden Dark Stone that Ash uses to summon Zekrom, Zekrom and Reshiram + Team Plasma and the good guys (w/ Team Rocket) have a big clash the goes from Dragonspiral Tower over the Moor of Iccirus and all the way to near Entralink, and at one point we even get to see Champion Alder as he’s currently apprenticing Trip. It all ends the same, but it would make for a grander and more suitable finale to the Unova Myth Arc.
- Genesect & The Legend Awakened takes place between BW141 and BW142, it’s set in Castelia City, and Mewtwo is the Mewtwo.
- BW142 would have the “leaving Unova” story play out slightly different and would be the last time for Team Rocket’s “human rockets” style blast-off rather than the first time.
- BW143 is now the only time in the entirety of BW where the phrase “Ya na kanji!” or “blasting off again!” is said by Team Rocket. Alexa’s presence is also obviously omitted, and Dr. Zager gets his final appearance giving TR the tools for their big shipjacking scheme.
- BW144 plays out much more like this, with Ash, Pikachu, and Team Rocket not departing for the Kalos region at the end of it.
Oh sweet Arceus, this would’ve been so much fucking better!
Trainwreck nature of the third and final year aside, Best Wishes is overall a good series. The Myth Arc was fairly good. The White Ruins arc was really good, as was the iterations of N and Team Plasma that were included. The major character arcs and their end points were mostly good. But...it’s all just good. Greatness was tragically denied.

A couple of weeks ago I asked about people’s favorite book or books they read this year. Between Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and discord, I have a list of 123 books in no particular order that my friends and family loved this year. If it was a series then I listed the first book. Each star is an additional recommendation. I haven’t read all of these, they may or may not reflect my personal opinions, though my favorite books are on the list too. The most recommended books were How Far The Light Reaches by Sabrina Imbler, one or all of the Murderbot books by Martha Wells, and Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki, because if there’s one thing my friends have in common across platforms, it’s that you’re all nerds (affectionate). Enjoy, and I hope you find your new favorite book!
