@pleinsdemuses said -> "did you two have a nice chat?"
When Chiara approaches him and askes her question, Luka curves a curious brow, like a question mark to match her inquisition. He looks behind him at the woman with whom he had only just been speaking, the implication going right over his head. "We only discussed business. I suppose it was as good a chat as any. Why? You are friends?"

Read the full article

I know Luca/Beatrice is a crackship but maybe them for the sleep asks? If not then maybe Luca/Penny?
(For this, I’m going to use Luca’s Ravenclaw AU, Luka Fawley.)
Beatrice x Luka
Who is a night owl:
Probably Beatrice. I’d imagine they both have nightmares to cope with - Luka dreaming about Rowan, Rakepick, and well, everything else. Beatrice dreaming about the Portrait and probably the Black Lake too. But in general, I think Beatrice is the sort of person who would stay up later, either to burn the midnight oil or just because she doesn’t feel like going to bed. Luka, rather than going to bed without her, would simply camp out wherever she currently is, because they’re a loyal bean.
Who is a morning person:
Oh, neither of them. This is a pairing that I see constantly oversleeping and being late for whatever functions they needed to be present for. It would actually be a very hilarious disaster. They would set an alarm clock, and then each of them would keep hitting the snooze button in turns, without planning to do so. They’d wake up, mutually agree to five more minutes, and go back to sleep. Only to wake up an hour later, acknowledge that they really needed to get up...and then cuddle up and doze off again. Neither of them have any willpower in the mornings and it would be a problem.
Are they cuddlers:
Sometimes. Beatrice doesn’t strike me as being very big on affection, and while Luka can be, they don’t exactly push it on people. I think they’d give Beatrice hugs and cuddles when they feel like she needed them, but if she shrugged them off (and knowing her, she totally might) they would understand. But the opposite doesn’t hold true. Any time Beatrice reaches for Luka or needs to be held, you better believe they hold her tight and don’t let go.
Who is the big spoon and who is the little spoon:
See, it’s easy enough to figure that Beatrice would be the little spoon, but I have no idea if that would be true or not. For context, Luka is tiny compared to other people in their year, and I tend to head-canon the Haywoods as being tall. So it wouldn’t surprise me if these two were relatively close to the same size and/or body type. and thus many cuddling positions are optimal. I actually figure that Luka would be the little spoon more often than not, but I also don’t really see either of these two favoring the spoon position necessarily.
What is their favourite sleeping position:
I think this would depend, and change a lot from whether they’re alone or together. Like, I definitely feel like Beatrice has the energy of someone who would prefer sleeping on her side. So does Luka. So they could simply sleep side by side, facing each other and being cute. But I also really like the idea of Luka laying on their back, with Beatrice just kinda curling up against them and sleeping with her head on their chest. Bonus points is there is hair stroking because that’s cute as all hell.
Who steals all the blankets:
In this case, it might actually be Luka who does. The “gets warm easily” vs “gets cold easily” headcanons are something I flip-flop on a lot concerning who would lean what way, but I can see Luka being the kind of person who is much more likely to get a chill on the winter nights. Cuddling can help with that, but it’s not foolproof, and I can sorta see Beatrice being the opposite way and being the one who is more bothered by excess heat than cold, so she probably wouldn’t be bothered if Luka was getting more of the blankets.
What they wear to bed:
I kind of envision Beatrice wearing a big jacket, similar to what she wears on a daily basis, just a different version for sleeping. Possibly some Hufflepuff styled pajamas, but with emphasis on the black rather than the yellow. When it’s too hot for a jacket she’d skip it and just have a top, and I can picture it having a kickass looking badger embroidered on the front. Luka would have one of their many jumpers, probably one given to them by the Weasleys. They would both wear pajama pants, the only difference is Luka’s would be stupid and cute and have like, unicorn patterns and such. Don’t forget their sleeping hat.
Who likes seeing the other wearing their t-shirt:
While I feel like they both do this, I think it would be the kind of thing Beatrice might be embarrassed about in a public setting. She’d wear Luka’s shirts at home but never out and about. Luka, on the other hand? Look, Bea’s outfit is boss and you can actually get it in the game. (And someday, I will, dagnabbit.) so how can that not translate over? No, Luka definitely likes wearing her jackets and/or her ties, and this just makes her face-palm but even if she doesn’t admit it, also makes her happy.
Who falls asleep mid-conversation:
Honestly, they could both do this, but I also feel as though it wouldn’t happen much to either of them. I think both Beatrice and Luka would learn to recognize when the other person is truly exhausted and would promptly end the conversation so their partner could sleep. I kinda see a lot of nonverbal communucation between these two - say Beatrice, for example, knows that she’s falling asleep and won’t admit to it, but if Luka ends the conversation, then she would know that was why and would quietly accept it.
Who wakes up in the middle of the night with nightmares:
Could happen to either of them, but more likely Beatrice. At this point it’s canon that she has nightmares, and Luka would too, but having her around might quell their nightmares and make them easier to deal with. If Luka wakes up in the middle of the night after a bad dream, they’d probably be able to calm down, cuddle Beatrice closer without waking her, and doze off again. But if Beatrice had a nightmare? Assuming her scream didn’t wake Luka, her attempt to get out of bed and go for a walk probably would. They’d want to walk with her and talk, but would also respect it if she wanted to be alone.
Who accidentally punched the other in their sleep:
Haha, definitely Beatrice. At least, between the two of them. Luka just isn’t a violent person in real life or in their dreams. But Beatrice is more likely to dream about battling dragons and dueling dark wizards. I can just imagine her twitching in her sleep, suddenly shouting, “Flipendo!” and unknowingly right-hooking Luka in the face, before rolling over and continuing to snore. (She definitely snores by the way.) Cut to a sleepy Luka, rubbing their chin and just kinda sighing in fond exasperation.
Who can’t keep their hands to themself:
Assuming of course, that they’re both seventeen or close enough to it...I mean, I’d still say neither of them. Luka’s an ace and Beatrice strikes me as being either being demisexual or just overall not that interested in hooking up. Not saying it would never happen, just that I don’t see either of them being that needy for it.
Penny x Luka (Obviously a different timeline...if Luka had previously dated one of these two, they would never date the other, they’re better than that.)
Who is a night owl:
Probably more Luka than Penny, though I don’t know that either of them would be inclined to stay up that late unless there were specific circumstances going on. That being said, they’ve totally pulled all-nighters before for this or that reason. I feel like Penny is the kind of person who’d get hyper at around midnight, but most people don’t ever see this side of her because she’s invariably asleep by eleven.
Who is a morning person:
Penny has total morning person energy. Not that I think she’d naturally lean that way, but it would have been a routine she settled into years ago and just never had any reason to question or change. There will definitely still be mornings where she sleeps in, but most of the time it’s going to be Luka who wakes up second, to go and find her making coffee or something. Alternatively, if they oversleep, I can see Penny doing a sweet thing and waking them up with kisses. Come on, you know she would.
Are they cuddlers:
Very much. Mainly because Penny is such an affectionate person, and Luka tends to be a mirror with this sort of thing. They don’t necessarily lean toward being cuddly on their own, but with Penny, it would bring out that side of them. When they get into bed, the first thing she would do would be to reach out and pull Luka close for snuggles, and there’s no way they’re complaining.
Who is the big spoon and who is the little spoon:
Penny definitely has little spoon energy, but so does Luka. I can see them both initiating a cuddle, but Penny would be the one to do so habitually, so she might be the big spoon. But I also think there would be times she’d want to be held the same way, and would settle herself against Luka to make that happen. So really, I think if a spoon was going to happen, it would be down to the mood of whoever started it, usually Penny.
What is their favourite sleeping position:
This may just be down to similarities between these characters, down to Penny having shared tendencies with Beatrice, or Luka likewise having some things in common with her, but I think this would be relatively similar. Luka does like to sleep on their side, and Penny would mirror that, possibly having Luka sleep against her neck or shoulder. But I could also see them having a similar situation to Luka and Beatrice, except reverse it so that it’s Luka curled up against Penny’s chest. (Again, not really a sexual thing, just an expression of closeness.)
Who steals all the blankets:
Going to be boring and say probably neither of them. Well, more so Luka than Penny, if we’re following the idea that Luka gets cold easily. But out of all the characters I’ve considered these Asks for, I feel like Penny (and Chiara) would be the most naturally warm? Like, body temperature wise? Like, Merula definitely has cold hands. Bless her heart, but she does. But Penny seems like a person who’d be warmer? Maybe that doesn’t make sense, maybe it’s all in Luka’s imagination, but they probably don’t feel as cold even on the most frigid nights. I mean they still do, because they’re a total wimp, but less so.
What they wear to bed:
Is it just me or is Penny a flowy-nightgown sort of gal? I feel like she is, though that might just be me. I mean, witches and wizards favor robes, so I feel like it would make sense for someone who grew up in a magical family. Plus, we already know she likes flowy and twirly things. Luka, again, totally favors jumpers because they’re warm and soft and cozy - but so it Penny, so there’s that.
Who likes seeing the other wearing their t-shirt:
At this point it’s just a well-established thing that anyone who dates Luka will wear their jumpers and shirts. They often wear clothes that are at least a size too big for them, at least when it comes to sleeping. You better believe Penny jumps at the chance to to wear them and feel like she’s wrapped up in one of Luka’s hugs. Likewise, I could see Luka putting on one of Penny’s shirts without even noticing until they’re fifteen minutes from the house and realizing they can still smell her perfume. They show up to whatever event they needed to be present for and everyone just kinda shrugs it off and takes it as normal.
Who falls asleep mid-conversation:
At this point I’m really toying with the idea that Luka could have narcolepsy, and I might want to explore that further. Plus, like I said, I feel like Penny would be able to stick to a routine pretty easily. If it got very late and she’d been up for more hours than she could handle, she’d tell Luka as much and they would totally get it. But Luka is the type to fall asleep without noticing, perhaps in the middle of something else. Especially if they’re sleep deprived and blocking that out with caffeine, which has been known to happen.
Who wakes up in the middle of the night with nightmares:
I’m not sure that either of them would. Nightmares would definitely still happen to both of them, but there’s something about this duo that makes me think they wouldn’t necessarily wake up from them, if that makes sense? They’d sleep through to the morning, maybe unconsciously clutch each other a bit more tightly. Then in the morning, they’d talk about the bad dreams. But I sort of get the sense that the nightmares wouldn’t get quite bad enough to rouse them, if they were by each others’ side.
Who accidentally punched the other in their sleep:
Y’know, this is such a weird one. I admit, I never really know what to say, because it’s pretty much asking the question, “Who is the more violent one in this ship” because really, how often does this happen in real life? The point I’m getting at is - neither of them. I don’t see this happening to either of these characters. But you can bet they would feel horribly guilty if it did, despite the other person not actually being that hurt.
Who can’t keep their hands to themself:
Hmm. Well like always, it’s probably not going to be Luka. I suppose being in a long term relationship with someone they love might lead them to enjoy it or desire it a little more, but it’s just not something they think about. I also don’t necessarily know if Penny would be the type to want it on a regular basis, but she’s more likely to initiate something than Luka is.

Luka didn't often like being looked at, inevitable as it was. His large stature and tattoos made him an easy target for curious eyes. It usually unsettled him, made him feel uncomfortable in his own skin, but he didn't seem to mind when Chiara was looking at him. He sat a little taller in his seat instead of shying away, like he normally might.
He felt affectionately for her, she being one of a select few individuals to be slotted into that category for him. He could count the number of people he cared for on one hand, and he revered them, would do anything for them. Chiara had held his loyalty for some time now and it wasn't faltering.
At her question, the Russian's brows rose, so, too, did his shoulders which then fell, sort of heavy, as he wracked his brain for an answer that would be sufficient for her. "Maybe never." He confessed after a beat. He'd never really been afforded the luxury of 'letting go'.
Chiara leaned back in her chair, her glass cradled loosely in her hand, the amber liquid catching the low light as she tilted it lazily. She studied Luka in silence for a moment, her sharp eyes softening just slightly as she caught the faint smile on his lips, the way he allowed himself to relax in her presence. It was a rare thing, and she didn’t take it for granted.
She tilted her head slightly, watching Luka as he spoke, careful to keep her expression neutral. She had always been good at masking her feelings—it was a skill honed by years of self-preservation and subtle maneuvering. Still, as he sat across from her, his quiet strength filling the room like a tangible presence, she could feel the familiar flicker of warmth deep in her chest, the one she stubbornly refused to acknowledge.
She took another sip of her whiskey, letting the burn of the alcohol ground her. It gave her something to do, something to focus on other than the way his accent curled softly around his words or the way his faint smile, fleeting as it was, seemed to light up the space between them.
She couldn’t let that show, though. Not now, not ever. That wasn’t who she was. There was a playful glint in her eyes now, a teasing edge to her voice.
“When was the last time you actually let go?” she asked again, but this time, there was no mistaking the mischievous tone. She set her glass down with a soft clink, her posture relaxed but her eyes sharp. “I mean, really let go—you know, not just sipping on whiskey and acting like it’s some kind of serious business, but actually drinking, having fun, enjoying it. Laughing a little too loud, maybe even making a fool of yourself.”

It was nice to be perceived the way that Chiara perceived him, and it made him stand a little taller. His eyes followed her as she moved across the room, like a trained dog ready to attack if the need arise or come if he were beckoned. He watched as she pulled out the whiskey, thinking of the time when he wouldn’t dare touch a drop of alcohol for fear of turning into his father. Of course, over the years, he had learned how to enjoy certain vices he had long denied himself, albeit in moderation.
“Thank you.” He said, his accent thick but his voice soft as ever. He took a small sip from the glass, let the liquid burn on his tongue for a moment, then swallowed it down, felt its warmth in his belly, the warmth of her affirmation in his cheeks. It was his turn to give her the most minute smile – a man of microexpressions, he didn’t often use grand gestures or facial expressions to convey his emotions. He’d long been closed off; historically difficult to read. “Yes, you have.” He agreed, holding his glass up like to cheer her as he sunk down into one of the seats across from her.
Luka took a moment to look around the room and drink in the familiar sights as he slowly nursed his whisky. He enjoyed the burn and the way that even just one made him relax just a bit, just enough. His eyes fell to her again, and he nodded, “It has been a long year.” He confessed.
Chiara offered him a smile at his words. He was sincere, true and his confidence gave her all the answers she needed. Luka would be a great asset in this meeting, she knew it She moved across the room with a measured grace, her heels clicking faintly against the polished wood floors. From the shelf tucked discreetly behind her desk, she retrieved a bottle of whiskey—amber liquid glowing faintly in the dim light. It was an old vintage, one from her private collection, reserved for rare occasions or moments when she needed something stronger than her usual armor.
Handing Luka one of the glasses, she settled into her seat across from him. Her fingers brushed the rim of her own glass before lifting it to her lips. “You’ve earned this,” she said, her tone lighter than usual but still carrying that air of authority she never seemed to lose. “And frankly, so have I.”
She took a slow sip, the burn of the whiskey spreading warmth through her chest. For a moment, her expression softened, the edges of her carefully maintained mask slipping ever so slightly. “It’s been a long week... ” she admitted, swirling the glass in her hand.

The more she kept her gaze focused on him, the more convinced he became that there was more to this than he had initially anticipated. Without question, Luka followed Chiara as she gestured for him to do so. He was nothing if not obedient to those he served, and he was currently under her employ. He nodded his head listening to her, he knew of the club she spoke and of places like it, even if he hadn’t spent much time inside of them, the business he was a part of meant the men and women he was contracted to kill often did.
Luka’s gaze jerked over to meet hers when he heard the word Russians. The Bratva had employed him for a great many years, he still worked for them under contract though was, for all intents and purposes, free contact and could work for whomever he pleased, he was the best of the best at what he did, and he was largely respected within the community. Still, he did not interrupt, he would save that cherry for when it was his turn to speak.
The Russian was well aware of the rivalry that Chiara spoke of, it was as old as either organization itself, it seemed, and neither one could outrun it, no matter how hard the ones in charge tried, there was always opposition, always something. Luka found the whole thing to be silly and juvenile and paid it no mind. He worked for all sorts of organizations, the Italians included, and they had treated him just as well as the Russians had. He had no reason to mistrust them or treat them any less than he would any other client. On top of that, he had made friends – or as close to it as possible – with an important figure. Chiara meant something to him, he wasn’t going to just forget that.
“I believe you can pull this off. If you are inviting me to come with you, I think that this is also a good idea. I have good standing with the Bratva, it will look good for you, and I will speak good words of you and your father.” He assured her, nodding his head slowly to get the point across. “I do not think you should worry so much. These are my people, I know them. A good deal can be carved out, I know this.” He knew how they worked, could brief her on how to approach the situation. “You are a respectable woman with a formidable reputation. They will enter this meeting with respect, even if it is carefully guarded. Let me help you, I promise you will not regret it.”
Chiara’s gaze lingered on Luka for a moment longer than she intended, a flicker of something softer crossing her features before she steeled herself again. He had been with her through more storms than she could count, his loyalty unwavering. She respected him more than she allowed herself to admit, and if she trusted anyone to be by her side in the days ahead, it was him.
She moved past him, her heels clicking against the marble floor as she gestured for him to follow. "In two days, my father is sending me to one of his flagship clubs... Aurora Noir. It’s one of the most exclusive venues in the city... The kind of place where fortunes are made and enemies are unmade. You know the kind."
She stopped, turning back to him, her expression serious. "The Russians will be there. Specifically, a representative of the Volkov family, Sergei Volkov himself. Our families don’t exactly exchange holiday cards, but my father believes this meeting is crucial for both sides. He wants me to convince them to collaborate on a weapons deal."
The Volkov family. She nearly scoffed at the thought. The Russians weren’t just rivals; they were a constant thorn in the Italians’ side. Years of territorial disputes, bloody battles, and failed alliances had left both families deeply mistrustful of each other. Her father, however, saw an opportunity, a chance to secure a deal that could change the landscape of their business.
Chiara sighed, the tension in her shoulders visible as she explained further. "The Russians control key routes through Eastern Europe. If we want to move our shipments efficiently and without interference... we need their cooperation. They’ve been hesitant, citing ‘trust issues’ and territorial disputes. But my father sees an opportunity to bridge the gap. If we can pull this off, it will secure a foothold in markets we’ve been struggling to access for years."
Her lips pressed into a thin line, her gaze hardening. "But this isn’t just about business. The Russians aren’t exactly known for playing fair. If they see even a shred of weakness, they’ll use it against us. They’ll test me, Luka, in every way imaginable. That’s why I need you there."
Luka was Russian. It was both an advantage and a potential powder keg, depending on how the Bratva men at the nightclub interpreted his role.
Chiara didn't want him as a weapon or a shield. She knew what attachment could cost. If anyone found out how much she valued him, it would paint a target on his back larger than the one he already carried. Her enemies would see it as a weakness to exploit, her father as a distraction she couldn’t afford. She couldn’t let herself care too much, couldn’t let him see how much his presence meant.

Luka studied Chiara, waiting for her response. He wished he was better at reading people, but her softening features did nothing but confuse him. One moment, she was hard with him, the next soft. It was a reminder of his mother, which was perhaps why he kept coming back for more. He missed that woman like one would miss a limb, and he chased the way she made him feel from the moment she was gone from him. No one in this world had ever shown him an iota of tenderness except for Chiara, even if it was just a gentle brushing of the arm and words that he needed to hear.
He nodded his head to let her know that he understood what she was saying, the smallest of smiles tugging at the left corner of his mouth to show his own approval and appreciation for the fact that she had expressed herself in such a manner. He knew that it took a lot out of these hardened individuals, but the people who were working for them deserved more than just a wad of cash thrown in their direction or directives barked down the phone.
“I will always have your back, Chiara.” He said firmly, looking at her intently. As long as he was around to have any say in the matter, nothing bad would happen to her that he was capable of preventing. Still, he was slightly dissatisfied with her wording because the implication remained that they weren’t friends, but they could be if that reality were a possibility. It seemed he need to come to the same understanding that Chiara had; their life didn’t afford for friendships.
He should have known better anyway, the friendships he had forged had led in heartbreak and regret.
Luka watched her step back, like she had realized she had stepped over a line, though he didn’t believe that to be true. He should have been considered more than a soldier for all he had done, all the loyalty he had shown without a moment’s hesitation or a question pursed on his lips. “Thank you.” He said, bowing his head just slightly. “I can more than keep up with you, do not worry. You just tell me what to do, when to do it, where. I will do the rest, you know this.”
Chiara’s gaze softened, the edges of her usual sharpness dulling as she studied Luka. He looked so unsure, so desperate for even the smallest sign that he wasn’t simply another piece on the board to her. And the truth was, he wasn’t. Not to her.
She let out a quiet sigh, the weight of her internal struggle clear in the way her shoulders relaxed just slightly. “Luka,” she began, her voice steady but carrying a warmth she rarely allowed anyone to hear. “You don’t have to ask for my approval. You’ve earned it a hundred times over. If there’s anyone I trust to have my back, it’s you.”
Her words hung in the air for a moment, heavy with meaning, and she took a hesitant step closer to him. “I know I don’t make it easy,” she admitted, her tone softer now, almost apologetic. “But you… you’re different. You’ve proven yourself, not just to me, but to everyone who’s ever doubted you. And if anyone could be my friend in this world, it’s you.”
Her lips curved into the faintest smile, and for once, it didn’t feel like a mask. “You’ve done more than a good job, Luka. You’ve been loyal, reliable, and…” She hesitated, as if debating whether to say what she truly felt, before finally adding, “important.”
Chiara reached out, her hand brushing his arm briefly—an uncharacteristic gesture of reassurance. “You’re not just another soldier to me, Luka. I need you to know that.”
Then, as if realizing she’d said too much, she stepped back again, her usual guarded expression creeping back in. “But don’t let it go to your head,” she added, the hint of a teasing smile returning to her lips. “I still expect you to keep up with me.”

As long as Luka had been doing this, he had been seeking validation. He’d been a child when he’d been first wrapped up in the Bratva, after all, and it was all he has ever known. The men and women he worked for knew how to make him feel everything he did… be it a cold look that felt like a slap in the face or a warm smile that felt like a congressional medal of honor. Either way, he strove to be the best of the best. Of course, he wanted to make her happy. How was that not a part of it? He was confused.
The Russian cocked his head to the side, trying to understand. He looked down at her from his brilliant height of almost six and a half feet, trying to read her expression, but it was inscrutable, and he’d neverr been good at figuring people out anyway, at least not by studying them. The only way he ever got to know anything about a person, he felt, was by torturing them, and Chiara wasn’t on his list of victims. He hoped she’d never be.
“You have my loyalty, and I do not think I am toeing the line between it and devotion. This is a strong word, da?” He asked, scrunching his face slightly. “I am only human, it is nice to hear that I have done a good job every once in a while, builds good morale.” Already, he was speaking more than he normally would and it made him uncomfortable, the words clunky and wrong as they fell out of his mouth.
He did nothing as she stepped back, putting some distance between them, but he couldn’t pretend to not be shocked when she leveled a cold gaze at him. “I thought we were friends, is this not true?” He asked, his tone soft. If she needed to put distance between them for work, then he would understand, he just thought he deserved an explanation first.
Chiara stood tall despite her short height, her eyes narrowed as she regarded Luka. She had always kept her emotions in check, the cold mask of a mob boss’s daughter a carefully constructed shield. She wasn’t about to let it slip now, not even in the face of Luka’s vulnerable confusion.
Her lips pressed together in a tight line before she spoke, her voice cool and measured. “You don’t understand because you’re trying to. You’re trying to please me, Luka, and that’s where you’re wrong.” She stepped closer to him, her heels clicking against the floor, the tension between them palpable. "This isn’t about pleasing me. It never was."
She glanced at him briefly, her eyes lingering for just a moment longer than necessary, before looking away, almost as if trying to escape the connection that was creeping up on her.
“I don’t need your devotion,” she continued, her tone steely. “I need loyalty. That’s what matters. And that’s what you should focus on.”
There was a flicker in her gaze, a subtle shift, but she quickly masked it, her expression returning to its usual unreadable calm. Her heart clenched for a fraction of a second, but she dismissed it just as quickly, pushing those feelings deeper where they couldn’t hurt her.
Chiara crossed her arms, deliberately keeping her distance, yet her gaze softened, just for a moment, before the coldness returned.
“Don’t make this harder than it has to be, Luka. You know the rules.” She gave him a sharp look, her voice quiet but firm.
Rules that were getting harder to follow...

Luka wasn't the best at reading people and still couldn't decipher the multitude of things that were expressed on Chiara's face. He could tell she was displeased, but that was about the extent of the matter. If he had stepped out of line, he would apologize, otherwise, he had no idea what the issue was.
He cocked an eyebrow when she repeated the word back to him, spitting it like it was venomous. Evidently, they were not friends. So, maybe that was the issue? Luka had been discussing business with someone whom Chiara did not trust. Well, he hadn't been given the memo. The two of them had crossed paths more than once, whatever beef she had with Chiara didn't slide down the line to Zalachenko.
"She was discussing a case we worked on together in '11." He replied easily, his shoulders coming up and falling as if it were that simple. "A dirty job, to be certain, but something worth remembering."
Chiara took a slow sip from her glass of whiskey, the dark amber liquid swirling as she stared at Luka with a mixture of irritation and something deeper—jealousy.
Chiara’s jaw tightened at his words, the bitterness in her tone betraying her jealousy. "Friends?" she scoffed, letting the word drip with disdain. "Hardly."
Her dark eyes flicked over to the woman, her grip on the whiskey glass tightening ever so slightly. She recognized her—a daughter of some wealthy businessman, always floating in circles of power and privilege. What she was doing here, she had no idea.
Chiara didn’t care. All she knew was that seeing him speaking with another woman—especially here, in her father’s club, where everything felt like it belonged to her—set something burning deep within her.
"What did she want from you anyway?" she asked, her voice colder now, her whiskey forgotten as her focus narrowed entirely on him.
