this is absolutely cringe as fuck but i need to get this out of my system i really dont wanna forget about it. at the start of the show morty is like this soft source of light that’s nice and warm and illuminated everything for everyone, everybody he knows and meets is better off for it, and rick is like an old rusty air lamp that’s been snuffed out. he used to be just like morty but through quite literally nobody’s fault but his own, he’s become more of a parasite than anything that sucks the light from anything he loves and gets too close to. and without meaning to, it’s his fault that morty slowly over time goes from this gentle beacon of comfort and hope to something ugly and eye-searing that’ll burn you if you touch it. his light becomes uncontainable, all his previous joy and effortless uplifting warmth becomes something dangerous that hurts to even look at to everyone except rick
