WIP Wednesday (5/8) | Mer Roadtrip AU (Part 13)

Nathaniel looks over his shoulder at the sound of footfalls and finds Romero charging after him like a bull in Pamplona. Shit, shit, shit. He hadn’t considered that since there were two of them, one could chase him down and the other could meet them with the car. He’s gotten stupid without his mother’s guidance.

He might be stupid, but he can run. So he does, weaving in and out of lanes, clambering over car hoods, and racing towards freedom. Only… When he gets to the end of the bridge, he finds that traffic has dwindled. There are only six cars left waiting to cross and after that there’s nothing but an empty road and that damned, dried-up grass on either side of it. 

Nathaniel’s fist hits his forehead because once again he’s fucked! 

His original plan had been to run for it, to cut through that grass to get back to civilization. (Or… At least that shopping center filled with tourists that he knows is across the way.) But, with no witnesses and only open air between them, Nathaniel knows Romero won’t hesitate to put a bullet in his leg and drag him back to that horrible car, kicking and screaming and bleeding out.

Alright. He needs witnesses again. Great.

Nathaniel turns to find Romero has almost caught up to him. He doesn’t give the bastard the chance though, because he picks a lane without a murderous goon in it and bolts. He’s not even sure what his plan is now, if he even has a goal besides playing keep away with his own body.

All he knows is that he is not getting in that car. He is not getting on a plane. And he is not going to Baltimore. No matter what. He'd rather have Romero shoot him. At least he wouldn't have to see his father again.
