Cake By The Ocean
A/N: so idk if y'all know, but there's this show called Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, and I'm lowkey obsessed with it. The jist of it is the main character, Zoey, can hear people's inner thoughts through song. So, I thought, what if that happened with Sanders Sides?
Pairing: Logince, Moxieceit if you really squint
Warnings: singing, Remus being Remus, sunburn mention, swearing, sex mention
P.S. this is an AU btw! I might write more of this if y'all like it!
I also don't really know how to write ✨action scenes✨ lmao
Logan blinked quickly, waiting until Roman was in the ocean to speak to Patton.
“Roman just sang a heart song. To me.” He leaned back in his chair, only for it to buckle and hit the sand, scaring Logan out of his skin.
“Thats awesome! What song?” Patton inquired. “I know I’m not as in-tune- hah!- with music as Roman is, but I can give it a shot.”
“Um, something about oceans and cake-” Logan reached for the bag of grapes.
“I think I know what song you’re talking about. Does it go like this?” He hummed a higher-pitch version of the melody to Cake By the Ocean. Logan nodded quickly.
“That’s it, that’s the song he sang” Logan replied.
“The one about having oral sex on a beach?” Remus flopped onto the blanket in the center of their little area, promptly getting hit in the face with a towel by Patton
“What? It’s true! Why are we talking about that song anyway?” He grabbed the bag of grapes from beside Logan, chomping on them. “There's a reason it’s called cake by the ocean…” he mumbled.
“Roman sang that song to him!!” Patton blurted out.
Remus’ eyes blew as wide as plates.
    “REALLY?! OH MY GOD MY BROTHER WANTS TO FUCK YOU!!” He grinned. “This is the greatest and worst day of my life!!” Logan groaned and Patton made a wounded noise
    “Well, we don’t necessarily know that- maybe he just wants to eat cake with you!” Patton supplied, looking for another option.
    “If by cake you mean ass,” Remus waggled his eyebrows and Logan buried his face in his hands, a heat creeping up his neck. Patton shook his head quickly
    “Roman would never!”
    “Well clearly he did if he just sang that song to Logan!-”
    “Stop! Please? I’ll just ask him”
“ASK HIM?!” Patton and Remus blurted out.
“Well you can’t just say ‘hey I heard you sing a song about wanting to fuck me, how about we go upstairs and talk about it” Remus continued. “I mean, it’s just common sense! I thought even you would know that, brainiac”
“I mean- kiddo, I wouldn’t- you shouldn't-” Patton stammered.
“See, even daddy agrees with me!” Remus flung his hands up and Logan groaned.
“I really wish you would stop calling him that...” Logan mumbled.
“Nope!” Remus grinned, popping the p.
“Anyway, as I was-” Logan looked up as he heard a scream, drawing a lot of other eyes. They saw Roman pulling Virgil into the ocean and Virgil flapping around like a beached whale, despite the fact that both of them had been lifeguards at one point or another.
“As I was saying, I don’t see the harm in… probing him about his feelings” Logan stated. Patton chewed on his lip. “Something rubs me the wrong way about this but--” He shrugged. “I can’t see anything wrong with it?” Remus moved back to eating the grapes and digging through the cooler for a drink.
“Alright then. It’s settled.” He leaned back in his chair when he heard music hum behind him. He sighed, standing up to move closer to the sound.
“On my way, feeling fine. I can see my reflection in my surfboard shine. I can hardly wait to cause a commotion! Come on everyone, jump into the ocean!”
There Roman was, holding his boogie board, wading in the shallow section.
“Flying high, just out of reach. No ands ifs, but’s, we’re nuts for the beach!” He was already soaked, and Logan felt his heart leap in his chest.
“Surf, surf; surf, surf, crazy!” Virgil, having just rode a wave in, joined him. “Ride the perfect wave, say hi to the sky!” He held his surfboard behind him, motioning to the sky
“Surf, sun, sand; it’s a bikini wonderland!” Roman nudged him and Virgil grinned. “Summer’s on, and we’ve gone surf surf crazy!”
“The radio blasts, and here’s the plan-” His head whipped around, turning to the direction of Remus and Patton, who were now also singing “Soak up the sun and get the ultimate tan!” Remus tossed Patton the sunscreen bottle and he caught it, spreading some on his hand. “We can hardly wait to show our devotion, come on everyone! Jump into the ocean!” They got up as well, making a sprint for the sea; Patton tagging behind Remus.
“Now’s the time so here’s speech, go, lose it all, have a ball at the beach!” Remus tackled Roman in a hug and Roman pivoted back to support his weight. Logan slowly inched closer to them.
 “Surf, surf; surf, surf, crazy! Ride the perfect wave, say hi to the sky!” Roman spun around, landing in Virgil’s arms in a sort of trust-fall, who pushed him back up with practiced ease.
“Sun is hot, the water's warm, a cool sea-side blast!” Remus said, voice slightly raspier than the others’ “Catch a wave, turn it up! Make a splash!” Roman joined in, adding energy to what they were saying “Make a splash, make a splash!” The four of them chanted and suddenly, he was hit in the face with seawater. The song continued, but Logan was still stunned that he didn’t hear it. He pulled his glasses off, wiping them on his shorts. The song ended and he looked up, just to see Roman and Virgil standing a few feet in front of him, teasing each other on who-knows-what.
“Oh! Hey Lo!” He seemed stiffer than normal, and slightly off. Virgil nudged him and whispered something and Roman flushed, grumbling. Or maybe that was just a sunburn.
“Salutations.” He locked eyes with Roman, who tried to discreetly look him up and down. Logan felt his face heat up and noticed Roman’s took on a pinker shade. Virgil looked between the two of them and snickered.
“Oh, hush, Virgil” Roman rolled his eyes and Virgil threw his hands up
“I’m just saying,” Virgil started.
Logan raised an eyebrow. “You’re ‘just saying’ what?”
Virgil grinned. “You know,  Roman told me he wanted to show you some things in private later” Roman turned a bright red and hit Virgil hard in the side. Virgil winced, rubbing where Roman hit him.
“Well, if Roman wishes to show me something, I’m sure we can make some arrangements” Logan stated plainly. Roman hid his face in his hands, shaking his head.
“You’re welcome!” Virgil smiled to himself. He ran off before Roman could change his mind and tackle him.
“I’m sorry, he’s weird,” Roman sighed, crossing his arms.
“Well, what is it you wanted to show me?”
~~~~~
“Feeling any better, Jan?” Patton opened the door to their condo and Janus groaned, sprawled out on the couch with a pair of pajama shorts. “Oh kiddo, that sunburn doesn’t look any better”
“And it feels so much better” He hissed sarcastically.
“Is the human lobster still being a bitch?” Remus snickered as he kicked off his flip flops.
Next came in Virgil. He flopped down on the couch the instant he got inside, sighing dramatically. “Too many people, not enough music” He grumbled and reached for his headphones, which Patton didn’t let him bring to the beach
“That is oddly the most out-of-character yet in-character thing I have heard you say,” Roman remarked, plopping down on the floor with his back to the back of the couch.
~~~~~~
Roman pulled a bag of rocks from his suitcase
“Yep. there they are. All four of them.” He put on a fake smile, putting the rocks on the bureau top. “Yeah, there’s not much, um-” He half-heartedly motioned to the rocks. Soft piano music started playing and Logan sighed. “What? Is something wrong?” He tilted his head to the side and Logan shook his head.
“No, no, it’s fine. It’s not y-”
“I just want you close, when you can stay forever” Roman started singing, taking both of Logan’s hands in his. “You can be sure that it will be better” He took a step back, pulling Logan with him around the room. “You and me together, through the days and nights” He stepped closer, close enough that their noses were almost brushing as he continued singing quietly. “I don’t worry because I know everything’s gonna be alright” He smiled, a smile that Logan swore lit up the room. “People are talking, they can say what they like” He shrugged, Logan’s hands slipping away to fall by his sides. “No one, no one, no one can get in the way of what I’m feeling. No one, no one, no one can get in the way of what I feel for you.” Logan never noticed just how beautiful Roman’s eyes were. Roman  stepped closer again and he could feel Roman’s breath hot on his lips. He got quieter again, just above a whisper. “Can get in the way of what I feel for you” He stepped away and the song ended, Logan struggling to remember how to breathe.
“Roman?” His voice came out hoarsely.
“Yeah, what’s up?” He smiled and tilted his head.
“Excuse me” He stepped closer, taking Roman’s face in between his hands and pressing their lips together. Roman stiffened in surprise and made a ‘mph!’ noise before pulling Logan closer. Logan pulled away when he heard a wolf whistle from the other room. Roman turned to find the doorway agape and the four in the living room fixated on them. Slowly, Virgil started applauding. Roman buried his face in hands and Logan cleared his throat before kicking the door closed. Roman did a double-take, making sure the door was actually shut this time, before pulling Logan into another kiss.
