batphone is my favorite arctic monkeys song. it is simply MWAH
i think alex sounds the best he ever has in that particular song that's just subjective but like. he just sounds great and i love the lyrics
it's romantic.
#i've recognized the glow of your lowbeams numerous times#through fairly opaque blinds in the sitting room.#vehicles will pass by but i know when it's you.#ok but also just the commentary on social media and consumption hits me really hard lmao

while this is cool tech i do want to point out that this has actually been a solved problem ever since high beams were invented. the problem in the US isnt that this isnt allowed its that people are leaving their highbeams on 24/7 instead of only when it's needed
THIS HAS BEEN A SOLVED PROBLEM FOR OVER A DECADE?!???
#like yes this will be great to get here but in the meantime people need to STOP LEAVING THEIR HIGHBEAMS ON#i lowkey suspect out of date drivers ed is to blame because nowadays the lowbeam lights come on automatically but folks are still taught to#turn on their lights in the dark#which. for these cars. means the fucking highbeams are the only light they can turn on

We're gonna replace my car's headlight bulbs tomorrow, for real this time, and after watching a couple videos, it's not nearly as complicated as I thought it would be. Hopefully dad bought the right bulbs lmao
What I didn't know is that lowbeams and highbeams came from different bulbs...... My highbeams are dim, too. But I rarely use them tbh. Lowbeams are more immediately important so I'll focus on that.

I've had modern lowbeams shine brighter than my brights. My retinas will never be the same.
Headlights are just too bright now. We gotta regulate them.
(And before anyone says it’s just an aiming problem - no. Like I apologize to the headlight aficionados clearly lusting after lighthouses, chernobyl, or the death star, but no amount of aiming is gonna fix the fact that the moment your car encounters any kind of hill, curve, or bump, my retinas are vaporized by a shade of blue-white previously known only to god. Just accept your limits and settle for a soft orange like the rest of us)

@talesofnovembria from here:
Of course they would end up in a place like this. Why wouldn’t they?
Fall had come to Tempo just as it had around the Estate, and learning about customs in this world had been something to ready upon. One thing that didn’t change between the two was the significance, or rather connection, to graveyards around this time. Spirits would become more active, though at least this world didn’t have to deal with the Headless Horseman turning up every now and then to cause chaos.
Not that she ever cared that much when there were plenty of other people around to handle the mess.
And considering the company she wound up calling her friends, it wasn’t too far of a stretch she would end up in one, and of course she would have with Arthur.
The man knew little of self preservation, but wanted nothing more than to help those around him. He got into more than his fair share of situations with ghosts, be it among friends or strangers.
Her eyes scanned along the tombstones, her arms crossed while her tail swayed gently behind her. The smell of earth mixed with decay clung to her nose, yet the sense of the undead did nearly just as much around her. She made sure to keep close to her friend, unsure of what may come of the two of them hanging around here for so long. Granted, out of the two of them, she’d have the best skillset to deal with any that may turn hostile...
But always at a cost.
So far, there was nothing to tip either one of them off to anything lingering being a threat. Even so, she turned her head back to Arthur, “Are you doing alright?”
“So far, so good.” Arthur answered, swinging his flashlight over the field of tombstones. The grass was dry and brown, and it crunched beneath his shoes and her paws. It sounded like walking over pine-straw, but at least it was less pokey. For him, anyways.
The beam of his light shone ahead, though he did glance back towards the van where it was idling, the lowbeams illuminating their trek further into the yard. Most of the stones looked older and weathered, often with vegetation growing on them, though the occasional newer and polished stone made an appearance along the rows. Crickets sounded in the treeline past an iron fence painted black. The moon wasn’t out, but the fireflies were, offering dapples of green-yellow light in the darkness where his beam didn’t shine.
He wondered how well Sal could see right now, as he stepped around the grass that had to be a grave. Dogs could see sorta in the dark, right? He was pretty sure they had low-light vision. Like they couldn’t see as well as cats, but they could see with less light than a person needed. Was that the same for wolves? Did Sal even follow animal logic when she was a worgen? And hell, did Azeroth even follow animal logic as it was?
He shook his head to focus. This place didn’t give him bad vibes at least. Not yet, anyways. But it was still creepy. Too bad whatever showed up wasn’t a friendly day spirit that didn’t require going through an semi-abandoned cemetery at like 1 in the morning. But nope. Maybe all ghosts were a little bit dramatic. They always needed that creepy gothic vibe. Maybe it was a prerequisite for being a ghost.
Ugh, today was bad for his focus. “Sorry to drag you into this, Sal,” Arthur cleared his throat, weaving towards the further back aisles. Some of them were weathered to nothing but crumbled stone. How long had this place been here, anyways? Wasn’t it like a hundred years and some change or something? “I just heard there were some sightings here. Thanks for coming and giving me a little back up just in case.”

You can easily tell when someone has never lived in a cold place. It's a dead giveaway that they refer to the rear defroster in a car as a "defogger." What the hell is fog, anyway? When we have the rolling ice-fog storms, the ones where you can hear every individual granule of frozen death bounce off your hood as you drive through it, the rear defroster is the least of your concerns.
I think I've encountered real, legitimate water fog about twice in my life. At the time, I was elated, overjoyed to test out the foglights on my car for once. Reaching down, I pushed the button and was rewarded with a slightly brighter road, all the better to see how I still couldn't see shit with my Federally-mandated lowbeams lighting up the cloud ahead. Real great invention, foglights. No wonder everyone drives around with them turned on all the time when it's bright and sunny; otherwise, you'd never get your money's worth.
As for the front defroster, your windshield isn't fogging up, because you're holding your breath, waiting for the moment that the rear end of the car gets light. If you exhale, your car will begin its beautiful arc into the ditch. Do you remember how old your snow tires are? Got all their studs? No need to worry about what your breath is doing until long after you're over this bridge. Switching that fucking thing on will crack all the rock chips, too, and then you're paying out at least $350 the next summer.
Sometimes I think about moving somewhere warm, where the likelihood of my frozen corpse being eaten by coyotes is not in the back of my mind during even short trips to the grocery store. Then I wonder what I would do with all this hard-fought winter driving knowledge. Within a week, they'd arrest me for breaking into a hockey rink and stealing a Zamboni.

i bought a pair of LED headlights for the lowbeams for my car and just changed them out tonight. took a drive around just to see how they are and if anyone would flash their lights at me, and so far so good!!!
they’ll definitely take awhile for me to get used to just because going from a halogen/yellow-toned color to a LED/crisp white-blue is different. i might need to go ahead and change the highbeams just bc it does look really weird when they shift on, and it’s yellow mixed with blue, lmao.
granted, the fog lights are still halogen as well, but that requires getting underneath the car and unscrewing some stuff to get to the light fixture, and while i’m sure i could do it on my own, i’m also very meh about doing it.
anyway, LEDs, when they’re set properly and not blinding people, look really good and make the overall look of the car much more highbrow. i’m just really excited that they match the daytime running lights!!
