I’ve really enjoyed living in Phoenix. The city retains its history and the old signs and buildings are what I love. The Wagon Yard on Bell has been around since the 1960’s and maybe earlier. On the bottom is how it looked in the 1960’s and in top is how it is today. Thanks to the wonders of my defective gallbladder last year, these wonderful photos never got posted! After I had surgery, I wasn't well enough to really edit these and get them put together in a presentable way but now that I am mostly normal again (because your body stays pretty out of whack for what seems like the rest of your life), I finally can present them to you all!

These were done the same day as Harpy Eagle's yoga shoot I posted back in August. Harpy Eagle and Phoenix have been friends for half of their lives. Both of them being twelve-years-old at the time, they've experienced a lot of things together. Calling them besties is somehow not a strong enough word for them. I loved doing shoots of them both separately, but it was a lot of fun to get them together for one. They bring out the best in each other and it's really fun to get to watch their personalities explode when they're next to one another.

We did manage to get to do a little bit of yoga, but mostly we wandered around taking the most random and silly photos that I am not allowed to share with the public! I love the bright colors on Phoenix and the calmer floral pattern on Harpy. My personal experience with them has always had Phoenix being loud and center stage with Harpy being the calmer, sensible historian that pops up from the shadows to educate the masses.

All three of us have been to Costa Rica, so it's no surprise that Harpy has jewelry from there. Both her wooden bracelet and necklace come from Central America while the earrings themselves were picked up from a yard sale. The dress was a gift from a relative, but we aren't sure of the brand name. As I stated before, the rings are engagement and wedding ring, so I didn't ask about their origins (the same goes for Phoenix).

Phoenix's skirt came from a Goodwill, but it was really a wonderful treasure to stumble across as it's a dyed Israeli skirt. Her top is from Old Navy and all of her jewelry (except for the Goody's bracelets) hails from Bealls Outlet which is a treasure trove of beautiful things. I think my favorite part of the skirt during this particular time frame was that it matched the coloring she'd put in her hair so they looked really nice together.

From moments where the girls are laughing together to moments where one is locking the other into a trunk to ship away to Timbuktu, they're always happiest when together. I love watching them interact and hearing the in-depth conversations they'll engage in. They're both amazing, beautiful women that I'm thankful are a part of my life. I'm hoping now that my body is beginning to cooperate again that I can do another shoot with this ladies, but I think I need to expand to the rest of my flock so that you can meet the other feathered friends I keep close to my heart.

I invite you to meet my friend the Phoenix. I was graced enough to be able to take photos of her today and, my gosh, she is lovely. I took her to the nature trail of the same Recreation Center I’ve been doing my photos at recently and managed to get some cute (and some silly and still others questionable) photos of her. I am sharing her beauty with you all, so you better appreciate it!

The dress is from a brand called No Boundaries that I have loved pretty much my whole life. I’ve never seen the brand outside of Wal*Mart, but did not double-check with her to see where she actually has purchased it. The dress is super comfortable and soft to the touch and, obviously, very sexy so you can wear it to something more fancy and get away with it even though it’s on the cheaper/comfortable side. (No one has to know! Mwahaha.)

The shoes she said came from Payless Shoe Source. The necklace she’s wearing she commented she’s had for ages, but has no idea where it came from. She wears it whenever she feels like she’s dressing particularly sexy.

The set of rings are obviously her wedding and engagement ring, while the singular ring was a gift from her mother when she was thirteen-years-old. The jewel fell out a while back and she continues to wear it, intending to replace the stone in time. The silver charm bracelet was a gift from her husband while they were dating and the leather one is for their married life. He regularly buys charms for her to add to it that are significant to big things that have happened in their life together. 

Phoenix and I have been friends for roughly five years now. She’s been an incredible source of strength for me over the years and a safe place to go when things go sour in my life. Phoenix is one of strongest women I know and her bird name suits her -- I’ve seen this woman rise out of the ashes time and time again and each time she is more glorious than before. I am so blessed to know her and so proud of watching her grow. 

We had a lot of fun and probably scared a few joggers in the process. Despite the heat, the day was beautiful and I’m proud of the shots I managed to get. (: If you’d like to follow Phoenix (real name Abigail) on Tumblr, her page can be found here.
