The best birthday present.

Since becoming independent, every year, my birthday goes by like any other ordinary day. Last year, I remember the blood nurse questioning my decision to donate blood on my birthday.

This year however, was different, all thanks to my fiancé. It would really be an understatement to say that I am so 'kinikilig' by how he chose to stay up til midnight to sing me happy birthday despite him being 'tur og' and tired from work.

Love, I know you will read this because you are my top 1 stalker. Thank you for choosing me, and choosing to love me the way you do. Our love story definitely isn't a perfect romantic drama on Netflix but our 'palpak' and silly memories are going to put smiles on everyone's faces during story times.

Thank you for loving me when things are good and bad. For taking in every aspect and part of me, accepting my flaws, forgiving my mistakes, and helping me become the best possible version of myself. I love you ♥️

I remember our early ligaw days. After endless hours of talking and laughing over phone calls, saying our goodnights and goodbyes, you'd send through a follow up text message to tell me how much you appreciated, that I chose to spend my time with you. You may think from time to time that you might have treated me poorly at the beginning but I remember all the goodness that was there too. After 15 months of ups and downs while in ldr. Finally with my love for our 16th 💍

He changed my perspective surrounding love. Before I met him I had unrealistic expectations. I was always setting myself up for failure because I was a perfectionist.

It isn't about saying sweet words, physical appearances, or how much money you have in your bank account. It's not about material things.

I now know that ..

Love is sending multiple chats, emoji's, and reactions when I don't want to reply. Driving me around and waiting for hours during my appointments or while running errands for my mumma. Grabbing my hand from the passenger seat. Cooking then putting food on my plate to make sure that I eat meat 🙄

Love is saying things you don't want to hear but need to know and realise (the truth hurts nga diba). It's about saying "I got you" when things get tough. It's not always 'I love you' or 'I miss you'.

It's showing appreciation and never making regrets for choosing each other.

I’m not mad at you. Just sad. You’re all locked up in your own world, and when I try to knock on the door, you just look up for a second, but never really get up to answer the door and let me in.

Is it wrong that the more time that passes, the more I become distant?

Is it unfair that I don't want to talk cause once you disappear again I reset and have to start over again from zero?

Is it selfish that I envy those that get to see and talk to you, when all I have is a recording of your voice from five months ago?

Sometimes I wish we had some kind of telepathic connection, so that you’d know every time I’m thinking of you.

Communicating in a long distance relationship is so damn difficult. No facial expression, voice tone, or body language as reference. It’s up to your imagination to interpret how you perceive a message, and in my experience this is where fights begin.

My boyfriend isn’t showy or good at sweet talking but he does put in a lot of effort to keep me. He tells me that he isn’t a sweet person but I think he is, in his own ways. After all, we are all unique.

We came to a point where he told me that he wasn’t capable of giving me everything and that it’s unfair to me. So I asked if he wanted to end things. He said “no, but the question is if you still want to stay. If you can accept my personality; that I’m not a sweet person”.

I stayed. Just because someone doesn’t love you the way you love them, doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all that they are capable of.

After that day, I noticed a change. He doubled the effort to keep me. I love him for who he is and I have watched him transform into his greatest and truest self. Something he believed he wasn’t capable of.

If you love someone, take their love for what it is. And if they love you, they will strive to change — themselves.

First and foremost I would like to express how thankful I am today. Thank you for taking the courage to move one step closer to me. Thank you for choosing to pursue me than to dream from afar. Thank you for waiting for me, patiently.

Thank you for being faithful above all else. Thank you for taking care of yourself, for taking your time preparing, molding and bettering yourself. Thank you for not rushing and for trusting the slow process required of us. Thank you for all your efforts I have seen and of those I haven't.

Thank you for always saying the right things at the right times. Thank you for making me feel that you are always there. Thank you for valuing the things and people I value too. And thank you for letting me feel that I am worth all of the hassle.

I dreamt of you today…

I was mentally and physically exhausted from being on call, so I took the opportunity to catch up on some rest.

I didn’t want to wake up. Kahit sa panaginip, tawa parin ako ng tawa sa mga kalokohan natin.
