Eva's trafficker was from her community and offered her a job in a nearby city, Lilongwe. Due to Eva’s economic status, she eagerly accepted. ⠀ ⠀ Upon arrival, Eva was told she would start work the next day. When Eva arrived at the trafficker’s home, she was told that instead of working as a salesgirl at a shop she would be working as a bar girl at the trafficker’s bar where she would be expected to also be a sex worker. ⠀ ⠀ Eva was horrified and told the trafficker she wanted to go home because she did not want to be a sex worker. The trafficker insulted Eva, told her she wouldn’t be rich, and refused to help send her back home. ⠀ ⠀ What was Eva to do? She didn’t have any money to return home and the man who helped her reach Lilongwe wasn’t going to give her any money. This immediately put Eva at risk of debt bondage and sex slavery. Eva began to cry and ended up staying at the bar for a few days. A couple days after arriving, Eva told the trafficker she was going to meet someone. ⠀ ⠀ Instead, Eva ran away to the bus depot to ask for help. At the depot, Eva ran into police who then sent her to the Love Justice Staff at the Lilongwe bus station. Eva shared her story with the staff who immediately intercepted her before any further exploitation could take place. ⠀ ⠀ Additionally, Eva was able to share intelligence about the location of the bar and gave the staff information about her friend who was also being held there and expected to work as a sex worker. Eva was thankful for the help of Love Justice Malawi staff and was returned home safely.⠀ . . . . . . . . .⠀ Stories like this are a reality in our world. Sometimes you need watering from above Hey there folks! I’m back. Got some much needed rest...yet I still want some more. You know how it be’s sometimes. Anyway, as I was jumping my soul back into the flow of what is my life, I sat on my front porch, on a Microsoft Teams meeting call this morning. Gotta love those work video calls. Anyone else singing Soul 2 Soul’s “Back to life, back to reality”? I am. While sitting there I’m staring at this succulent plant that I’ve had for about 3 years. Most of its life, it’s been indoors. Sitting on my desk in a yellow pot. It made my desk pretty. But, today I noticed that it’s leaves were the plumpest that I have ever seen them. They had colour around the edges that wasn’t there before. A red purple hue encircles quite a few of the leaves. It stands more erect than before. Frankly, it just looks all around healthier and better. I only put it out on my front step 6 days ago. And, this has already happened to it. Then I remembered something I read a bit ago while trying to obtain horticulture specialist knowledge: kidding, I just liked how all of that sounded. Legit. Too legit to quit. I’m actually just trying to learn how to keep my plants from dying. They kinda always die. Anyway, in this article it said that while it’s important that you water your plant’s roots, it’s equally important that they get water from above. That water falls on its leaves. Runs down its stalk. Sits on its branches and limbs. I think we are just like plants. We do need our roots watered and fed. But, we need the water from above. We need it to rain on our head. I just came from being with people who did just that. They watered me greatly from above. They baptized me with goodness and love. My leaves feel plumper. They have more colour. I’m standing more erect. I’m...better. I’m healthier. I needed the rain. They gave it to me without question or measure. Now that I’ve been baptized from above, I had to tell you to do the same. I had to tell you to get that water that comes from above. For me, it comes from God & friends. It comes from that space where time stands still and I am wholly loved upon. This kind of love brings with it great rest. Great remembrance of my glory. Of your glory. Of the glory we can still be in concert. Lift up your head my friend. Be watered from above. It. Feels. The current social climate tells us that we are special snowflakes, and should be treated accordingly. That's not what God intended for. Yes, we are fearfully & wonderfully made in His image, but we are to be humble before Him. It's hard to be around someone who's stuck on themselves or who thinks they are the center of the universe. Instead of lifting others up and caring, they're in it for themselves. That doesn't promote community building. That promotes building walls & pedestals. My goal every day is to do one thing to promote the kingdom of God, which means I walk a fine line between doing it for me-getting recognition, praise, whatnot-and doing it for Him.
