How #crochet helped me to be the person who I am today? How I used it as a therapy, motivational, educational and inspirational tool. Find out more @fieldsinstitute on Oct 20th. so grateful for my friend who shared this with me this morning. beautiful work here and powerful message below by @whimsyhen #Repost @whimsyhen with @get_repost ・・・ 🌞 MENTAL ILLNESS IS NOT A PERSONAL FAILURE 🌞 @craftastherapy and @lovecrochetcom have teamed up for Mental Health Day on October 10 and are asking crafters to share how their craft has helped them using #lovecraftmentalhealth . I don't often open up but I've personally experienced the stigma that mental illness has and I want other people to know that they are not alone and having a mental illness is normal, not scary and not something to be ashamed of. I taught myself to crochet after my son was born, nearly 6 years ago. It has become a major coping method and has seen me through panic attacks, post natal depression, anxiety, PTSD, child loss and OCD, among other things. I crochet nearly every day, and it makes me really happy! I've survived through a lot of traumatic events but the positives I have gained from them are incredible. I have a fiance and son who love and support me unconditionally, a resilience that cannot be stamped out, and an inner voice who is growing kinder, gentler and louder each day. I have plenty of bad moments, but I am getting better at weathering them, and I'm learning to enjoy the good moments too. Crochet is a major part of my lifestyle, it calms me and has helped me connect with other creative people online, which I find really inspiring. To others who are suffering: you are not alone. It gets better. And then it gets worse again. But healing is not linear. There are no rules! Be gentle with yourself, and know that with time and patience, the pain will soften around the edges and your spirit will burn all the brighter for it 🌟

@craftastherapy and @lovecrochetcom are asking crafters to share with them how craft helped them with mental illness using #lovecraftmentalhealth Personally, crochet helped me a lot in decreasing my stress and panic threshold. My life is always busy, graduate studies, kids, responsibilities, house work, deadline/writing, and many other things. I was trying to find an escape in a peaceful hour where i de-stress and recharge again and found nothing but crafts! I learned photography/crochet/ painting and now can't live without them and get stressed when a day pass without doing any LOL!! I started in 2010 and now I'm a professional photographer, crochet workshop instructor and sciart artist. I love how crafting changed my entire life and my perspective for things around me. Anyway forgot to say Happy #Tuesday to all ♡
