KUUMBA Happy Kwanzaa🖤💚❤️On the 6 day of Kwanzaa, we light the candle of Kuumba (Creativity). The principle of Kuumba encourages us to do as much as we can, at the highest quality in attempts to leave our community/world better and more beautiful than how we first encountered it. That timeless style by Ida B Wells! Just sold a similar piece and thought oooh let's celebrate our meat by celebrating Black History month and her being herself. Ida Bell Wells-Barnett (July 16, 1862 – March 25, 1931), more commonly known as Ida B. Wells, was an African-American journalist, newspaper editor, suffragist, sociologist, feminist,[1] Georgist,[2] and an early leader in the Civil Rights Movement. She was one of the founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1909. Born in Holly Springs, Mississippi, Wells lost her parents and a sibling in the 1878 yellow fever epidemic at a young age. She went to work and, with her grandmother, kept the rest of the family intact. She moved with some of her siblings to Memphis, Tennessee, finding pay better for teachers. Later as an activist, Wells documented lynching in the United States in the 1890s, showing that it was often used in the South as a way to control or punish Black people who competed with whites, rather than being based on criminal acts by black people, as was usually claimed by whites.[3] She was active in women's rights and the women's suffrage movement, establishing several notable women's organizations. Wells was a skilled and persuasive rhetorician and traveled internationally on lecture tours.[4] #naacp #idabwells #ilovemeatmarket #loveblackpeople #journalist #mother #wife #socialworker #womensrights (at The Meat Market)

This is disgusting how white supremacy has infiltrated damn near every society on this planet. You got to eat at a restaurant and you want to be assured you will be treated with respect. And instead you find your check identifying you as “black and ugly.” You couldn’t wrap your head to think this would be normal and ok and when you confront the people who did this, why? Their simple answer was as an identifier. Like that’s ok. Like your bias and prejudice is ok to stamp all over me. Like you are so privileged your boss will co-sign on this. This is our everyday experience and no it doesn’t matter what language you speak Black people are disrespected. It is a hard lesson we have learned all of our lives. And now it’s time to tear the systems down that have created world wide systematic racism and oppression. Addendum: With any person black, the same ethnicity as myself, regardless of gender or anything else that may separate us. (Even light skins). Real ish. #blackmanoath #problack #loveblackpeople #strongblackman #musttakecareofourown (at East Chicago Library)
