Janelle looked up from the T.V when she heard the front door open and close. Her smile dropped from her face when Josh walked into the living room. 

“What happened?” Josh sighed and sat down on the couch next to her. 

“She has rights to Xavi. She’s his mother and there’s nothing I can do about it.” Janelle gasped. 

“But she abandoned him!” 

“I know that. My lawyer said that the courts won’t  care.” He groaned. “No matter what she always comes back and ruins shit. It’s like she knows when I’m happy.” He said as he stood up and started to pace. Janelle just sat there and watched him not knowing what to do or say.  She looked over at her dad when he walked into the living room. He walked over to Josh and placed a hand on his shoulder, stopping his pacing. 

“Josh, you know I’ve been through the same thing with Nelle and her brothers. And my one regret is not fighting hard enough. You said she left him at your mother's house right?” 

Josh nodded. “Yeah, on the porch didn’t even knock, just left him there.” Janelle’s dad nodded. 

“Okay, did y’all take him to the hospital or anything? Call the police?” Josh nodded. “Okay. get all the paperwork. Since she is his mom you have to prove that she is unfit.” 

“I don’t know why I didn’t think of that.” Josh said as he got his phone out of his pocket. 

“That’s how I got Nelle and her brothers back. It took some time, but no matter what. Do not stop fighting for your boy.”

“I’m bout to head to to get Xavi from school.” Janelle said a couple of hours later as she walked into the nursery for their son. “Probably stop by the market too.” 

“Janelle, you need to relax. You’re 8-” 

“8 months pregnant. Yeah I know.” She said with a chuckle. “But, you need to finish this crib.” She said looking at all the pieces scattered all over the floor. 

“Fine, just be careful.” She blew him a kiss as she left the room. 

Janelle let out a groan as she stepped out of the car and stretched. Her back was killing her. She couldn’t wait until she gave birth. She smiled at the secretary as she entered Xavi’s school. 

“Good Afternoon. Beth.” Beth gave Janelle a quizzical look. 

“Hey Janelle. Um, Xavier’s mom already came and picked him up.”  Janelle actually felt her heart stop beating. 

“Excuse me?” She said, as she started to panic. She pulled her phone out of her purse and called Josh.  How did she find out where Xavi went to school?! Beth gulped and handed Janelle the photo copy of Ximena’s ID. 

“She came here with the birth certificate. She said Josh said it was okay for her to come get him.” Janelle narrowed her eyes and pointed a manicured finger at Beth. 

“We had a list of people who can pick him up and she was not on the list Bethany!” Beth jumped and the volume of Janelle’s voice. 

“Nelle, why are you yelling.?!” Josh asked once he answered the phone. 

“They let Ximena talk Xavi, Josh.”

“Call the cops.” was all Josh said before he hung up the phone and rushed over to the school. Janelle groaned and put her phone back in her bag. 

“Why wouldn’t yall call me or Josh first!” She said as she rubbed her hand on her belly. She was starting to get cramps. 

“I called the cops for you.” Beth whispered, feeling awful. “I’m sorry we didn’t know.” 

Janelle sighed and winced as the cramps got intense.  “I thought the pick-up slips were for a reason.” Beth nodded, but before she could say anything Josh stormed through the door. 

“What they fuck is wrong with yall!” He yelled. “Why would yall let my fuckin’ son go with someone not on his fucking pick up list.” 

“Mr. Fatu, we are - “ 

“Man, fuck all that. Where the cops?” He said, turning to look at Janelle. 

“We called them.” The principal said. Finally coming out of his office. He walked over and tried to shake Josh’s hand. He quickly put his hand down when Josh gritted his teeth at him. 

“Mr. Fatu. Let me be the first to say how sorry we are. But she had his birth certificate.” Janelle zoned out of the conversation because her cramps were getting worse. Josh stopped yelling at the principal when he saw Janelle walk over to a chair and sit down. He rushed over to her when she let out a groan and pinched her eyes shut in pain. 

“Nelle, what's wrong?” He asked, placing his hands over hers. 

“Braxton-Hicks.” She said and waved him off. “I’m fine.” They both looked over towards the door when the cops walked in. “Go talk to them.” Janelle tried to do the breathing exercises her OB told her about but they were not working. Josh noticed the distress on his fiance’s face and excused himself from the police officers. 

“Nell, go home and rest. I got this.” She opened her eyes and shook her head. 

“No, what if-” 

“Janelle. Please.” 

“Fine.” She said and held out her hand so he could help her up. “Call me, when you find out something,” She said and he nodded. 

Janelle sighed as she stopped at a red light. This whole situation was beyond fucked and Ximena’s karma was come back and bite her in the ass. She just hoped that wherever Xavi was he was safe.

Janelle pulled up to their house and stared at the car in her driveway. She had never seen it before and it had a Florida license plate. She shrugged as she made her way into the house. 

Janelle dropped her bag in shock when she saw who was in the living room. “Xavi?!” She ran over to him and wrapped him in a tight hug. “You okay?” She asked as she pulled away from him and started to check him for marks. 

Janelle’s dad walked into the living room when he heard her voice. “I tried to call you and Josh. y’all didn’t pick up.” She went to reply but the look on her dad’s face stopped her. 

“Dad. What’s wrong?” 

“Call Josh and come in the kitchen. Now” He said and walked back into the kitchen. She looked back down at Xavi who was already back to watching cartoons and pulled out her phone to call Josh as she walked into the kitchen. 

“So you must be the fiance.” Janelle looked up and made eye contact with the man from Josh’s mom party, then her eyes slid over to the woman next to him. She looked just like Xavier. The woman got out of her chair and sauntered over to Janelle, looking her up and down. “I’m Ximena. Xavi’s mom.”

Julie hooks her fingers into her newest bracelet, the one Reggie made for her, running her thumb over the intricate woven pattern. It’s beautiful, a deep purple offset by a bright shade of red, like the abstract painting she couldn’t stop staring at on that class trip to the Getty Center. 

She’s trying not to stare at him, chest tight with anticipation. He shifts on the bed, and their knees brush. She sucks in a breath. 

If she’d been smart about it, she would’ve planned something for them to do while they listened to what’s possibly her most vulnerable playlist. Her pulse pounds in her ears, nearly drowning out the music.

She should have turned it up more. It’s practically crooning. She was so focused on keeping it quiet enough that it wouldn’t filter through her door and out into the hall. 

She’s about to suggest that they paint each other’s nails or something when he says—

“I never imagined that someone’s heartbeat could sound so amazing.” 

Her breath catches. She flings around to face him, curls flying.

“What?” 

Reggie gives her a lopsided smile, eyes dancing with mirth, which does nothing to help her heart.

How much of a giveaway would it be if she swooned? Could she blame the heat?

“The song. You said she recorded her heartbeat for this one, right? It sounds really cool.” 

“Oh.” Duh, Julie. Get a grip. “Yeah, it makes for a really interesting beat. You like it?” 

He shrugs as his smile widens. “It’s not as good as ‘Love Story,’ but I guess it’s okay.” 

“Liar!” She smacks him with the nearest throw pillow. “And you’re biased over the banjo!” 

He plucks the pillow out of her grasp, and she lunges for it, which quickly devolves into a bout of thrashing and giggling and wrestling. Eventually, his grip goes slack, and it’s only after she pries the pillow out of his hands that she realizes she’s pinned him to the bed. 

Julie squeaks. She collapses against his chest, burying her face there. “Sorry!” 

His heart thunders under her cheek, booming in a way that belies his little, “It’s—cool.” 

She hears it, and she has to know. 

“You were right, though.” She lifts her head, and he swallows. He must feel it, the way her heartbeat echoes his, a symphony of all the things they’ve never said. “It’s pretty amazing.” 

“It could be,” he murmurs. His blush nearly matches her bracelet. He glides his fingers over it when she gropes for his hand, gently circling her wrist, and she quivers. His gaze lands on her lips.

“It could be my favorite song.” 

“Ours,” she breathes. His free hand tucks some hair behind her ear, lingering there as she guides her face to his, and he kisses her tenderly, thoroughly, stealing her breath.

She has to huff a laugh when her playlist switches to "Sparks Fly," lacing her fingers through his properly. She steals another kiss, a quick one, before someone can come up the stairs.

“This is ours.”

1. Ah, the Everybody Lives AU. I wish I'd given it a prettier name now because I never really expected it to get any attention, lol. It was one of the first things I wrote for JatP! I've actually been toying with the idea of re-writing it a little since I've improved so much since then.

2. Home Is Where The Heart Is! My first attempt at established Juke, and at focusing on the domesticity of their relationship with Reggie. It means so much that that one's your favorite, as domestic fluff is very much a specialty of yours! ❤️❤️❤️

3. Aha, I really enjoyed writing that bit of prose. Admittedly, there's a lot of prose at the start of that one because it's the first smut fic I ever attempted, and I wrote that half before I ever posted any smut. The second half came once I'd gotten a bit more comfortable writing it (and stopped beating around the bush so much with prose). I really do think I'll re-write that one a bit to weld both halves together better, but it's really cool that that bit of prose stuck with you!

4. I have so many more fluffy things planned for them, it's not even funny! Like, I'm thinking about taking Let Your Colors Blind Their Eyes and making it part of a little series that'll eventually be Peterpatterlina (plus a Ray piece because I have to explore that mixtape conversation between him and Julie). But I also have about 7 more smut prompts that I do plan on filling eventually! Most of them are for Rulie because you all know me so well, lol. 🥰

My favorite fic of yours

Gosh, there are so many. I loves the spicy Everyone Lives Au, because I think that was the first thing of yours I read. But if I have to pick just ONE fic, it's gonna be Home Is Where The Heart Is. Just the pining, the domestic fluff, the sheer peak characterization of them getting together through song! It is like a warm hug with a mug full of cocoa to go with it, super sweet and comforting.

6. Something I remember vividly from reading one of your fics

Ohh, from I Wanna See and Stop Thinking, the description of Reggie with his eyes like antique glass and his blush like tissue paper, that little bit of description lives in my brain rent free! Also the line about peacocks, because it made me giggle.

11. Something I wish/hope you write

All the fluffy Rulie/Rukebox fics! Gosh babe your fluff is just unparalleled and the way you write descriptions is immaculate. Like, I would love a part 4 of the Everybody Lives AU, because I think you write amazing smut. But I also just want some smoopy cuddly fic, doesn't even matter if it's shippy or not, because your QPR fics are also just the softest things as well.

My Top TV Show Female Characters

I made a male version of this that some people actually read (thanks!!) So I thought it's time to make my female version! I'm sure there's more that I adore, but these are the ones that immediately came to mind. *In no particular order*

Haley James Scott (One Tree Hill)

Bethany Joy Lenz was one of the best actors on this show, and she brought so much to this character that I'm sure was only initially supposed to be your typical best friend to the main character. Haley James Scott was more than that. She is a wonderful wife (Naley forever, my #1 otp and simply iconic) and mother. Not only that, but she's talented and funny af. Her humor is so underrated, especially during her pregnancies, lol. Not only that but never mess with her family cause she will quite literally fuck you up (*cough* see Rachel Gatina) 💀

Blair Waldorf (Gossip Girl)

1/2 the reason why I even bothered with Gossip Girl to begin with. Takeaway that God awful relationship with the wannabe Batman voiced man, she is a literal queen that deserved better!! Leighton Meester's acting so underrated it annoys me that her career didn't skyrocket after this (there's still time though 🙏). Blair had her flaws, but was shown to be quite the good person despite everything. She is not only intelligent, but she's witty af and I love every bit of her sass. If only she had ended up with someone on her level mentally and spiritually.

Manny Santos (Degrassi TNG)

A whole ass trendsetting queen!!! Manuela Santos walked so that so many other bad ass tv women could run. The very first time I watched this show I instantly fell in love with her. She was honestly a good ass friend that dealt with so much shit that she didn't deserve. The abortion storyline was simply great because I'm almost positive girls watching the show felt safe knowing they had options when it comes to unplanned pregnancies. Her style? Immaculate. Her ability to change a once bad boy to an actual good guy? Iconic. Love her forever.

Stephanie Tanner (Full House)

This show was the very first sitcom I fell in love with as a little girl. I remember loving Stephanie. To the point where I wanted to join dance classes to be like her lol. I always was more invested in her storylines and I thought she was extremely relatable. Her catchphrases >>>> and the episode where she drove the car into the kitchen? Forever iconic. I haven't seen enough of Fuller House to give an opinion, but I'm sure she was just as iconic on there.

Jen Lindley (Dawsons Creek)

My sweet precious muffin. My cinnamon apple. Jen brought so much to this show. An iconic friendship (her and Jack 😭😍), amazing character development, and a lovable personality. I truly love her so much and I cannot believe the way her story ended. She deserved so much more. She was a beautiful person inside and out and Michelle Williams did such an amazing job. Especially when she was the youngest amongst the cast.

Lydia Martin (Teen Wolf)

My favorite banshee ❤ I seem to love characters with amazing character developments because here's yet another character that had amazing development. Lydia literally went from typical mean girl to an actual badass superhero. She was so real and so complicated (in a good way). I loved the depth to her character and forever happy they didn't keep her as the mean girl with no personality. Lydia Martin is a powerful woman. Also, her and Stiles forever have my heart.

Lois Lane (Smallville)

I love this show and the minute she came on I personally believe the show got better. Lois and Clark are legendary especially on Smallville. I know a lot of people preferred Lana and at first I was all Lana/Clark. But once Lois came on, I was like Lana who? Lois was more interesting and had better chemistry with Clark imo. I think my love for this character stems mainly from Erica Durance. She brought such a light and lovable vibe to this Lois.

April Kepner (Grey's Anatomy)

A strong ass woman. She faced so much hardship, but never ever gave up. Like the amount of shit this woman had to deal with?? It's always the characters that I love that have to deal with a lot and quite often never get the happiness they deserve. I'm so happy they brought her back and gave her a better and more proper ending with Jackson aka who she deserved to be endgame with. April could be quite neurotic to the point where it got annoying. But I still loved her and her flaws. She was extremely relatable. Also let's take a second to recognize how amazing Sarah Drew is.....the shooting episode and scene with the shooter??? ICONIC.

Tia and Tamera (Sister Sister)

Another sitcom I absolutely adore. Tia and Tamera are forever iconic queens in the show and in real life. I'll admit, Tia was favorite as a kid. I resonated with her more, but during my last rewatch as an adult I enjoyed the two of them and now I can't really choose a favorite. These two are my childhood ❤

Today was my first gig as Emerald, not ad Echo... I was quite nervous given I didn't know if others would just accept my new and own Style but... Tarak stopping by and giving me some assurance did help out... as well as the boxing session after to calm my nerves... I am glad he is there for me... he is quite a sweetheart and I even would feel that without my career he wouldn't even abandon me.... I... don't know how I can ever thank him. But I can try at least. At least the gig went well and I can be a bit more calm about this.

Usually I would only rely on myself but... working together with Lucas I feel like... someone understands my mindset. I am impressed by what he can pick up on and help me improve... I don't trust many with this... I think compared to my progress reports today I felt like giving praise to someone who does work hard for my Sake... at least I think so... I can't express my feelings right.

God damnit... I hate sometimes how much power this Man has over me... its like he always leads me to do more of the things he likes... I hate and love him and its just conflicting... it pisses me off inside... sometimes I just wanna throw a chair at him and other times I just want to kiss him... Urgh... why do I always fall for the worst of the worst... I do hope... eventually I am more determined about what to do. I hope Bethany never finds out about this... that is why I hide this diary very well... cause if this ever goes out I can't keep up my reputation

My heart is in unrest currently.... since all those flirts Damián left at me my head is spiralling and he doesn't want to go out... its been that bad that often dream of him... and those dreams are... wild let's say it. It makes me barely even able to look at him cause I feel ashamed of being weird to him... but seeing him smile so happily... how endearing he plays with those cats... how he often teases me... my heart can't calm down.

Maybe eventually I will figure out what to do. Till then I will just stay as usual... be kind and try to stay focused...

There was this one book Sable recommended to me that was pretty sweet but... it got me thinking a little... he is often I the monster and human fall in love but... he doesn't have to see himself as one... I often noticed him bringing it up but... to me he is far from it... to me... He is someone fun to spend time with... someone I grew fond off... and I never felt fear once... I wanted to gather my thoughts.... maybe I feel just worried about him...

I hardly got any sleep after what happened... she came out again and if Sin didn't snap me out of it I.... would have hurt him... I know he says it's fine... but seeing his face in worry... I feel horrible... why sister... why must you still be in my mind after all those years... I wish I could have saved you... I wish you were still alive but... you don't have to torture me like this... I... just dont know what to do anymore

I'm gonna go with the US Open here. Last year was so cool and strange at the same time. I was in the country at the time but couldn't really watch anything since we were out and about all day and in a different time zone. But I constantly followed the scores. My favorite fic of yours

You probably guessed this, but it's You Bring A Little Bit Of Colour To The Picture! It's such a sweet story (and you know I'm a sucker for the sweet stuff, it's like all I write), and I love how intimate it feels with the focus on Julie and Reggie and their art. Plus "You're my guy" is A Moment that still makes me foam at the mouth

E: What character do you identify with most?  Is there a certain fic of yours that captures these qualities particularly well?

Reggie. It's Reggie. I don't know why I try to lie to myself, lol. Sweet, optimistic, a bit of a dork, always giving the love he deeply longs to receive, ADHD brain all the time, more talented than he gives himself credit for, sometimes swallows his feelings, bi, lacks common sense every now and then but makes up for it with great ideas...yeah (a lot of that is also me giving him a bit more depth by projecting so oops).

The best example of this might actually be The Hogwarts AU (you can't tell me that he wouldn't be a Hufflepuff even if it wasn't also my house though), where he's determined to befriend Luke even though he feels out of his depth (and insecure about his braces).

L:  Which of your fanfics was the most emotionally challenging to write?

The Hallmark AU has been the most emotionally challenging so far, since I wanted Julie's grappling with her grief to feel sincere, and something she worked through on her own. Reggie may have encouraged her here and there, but she really did manage to embrace her pain and come to sing again on her own (although he did help a lot with the whole 'relearning to enjoy Christmas' bit).

W: What is your favorite pairing to write?  Favorite pairing to read?

To be honest, I'll read just about any pairing as long as it's written well. This method has gotten me invested in several rare-pairs, lol. My favorite pairing to write for is definitely Peterpatterlina (with Rulie as a close second). I do enjoy writing for other ships, but I always come back to Peterpatterlina. I'm obsessed with the layers it could add to canon (and also just with them in general).
