I was watching the original 'If I Never Knew You' music video yesterday, and then in one of the scenes I said:

"Wow, John Smith is one of the hottest Disney characters, there's no way, man. LOOK AT HIM!!"

Then my mom said "Calm down, Amanda, he's just a cartoon, doesn't exist." Geez mom... So, it's better that you never know the dozens of non-existent 2D crushes I've had...

zeus might have had half a mind to be humiliated, if only he could catch his breath.

it had been the quietest of confessions. as he sat by the fire next to his mother, discussing how he might succeed at such a daunting task, the words had left his mouth in a whisper. what if i fail?

the sensation in his chest that followed was foreign and all-consuming. he felt like ice had entered his veins and rendered him immobile. he felt like someone had sucked all the air from his lungs and would not put it back no matter how hard he fought. he felt like he was being crushed under the weight of the sky.

zeus gasped and sobbed into his mother's shoulder, icy panic an unshakable force. somewhere in the mess, zeus had managed to cry out a simple phrase. do not leave me, mother.

her words washed over him like a warm blanket. she was here, and she would not abandon him, and all would be well. slowly, painfully slowly, he felt the panic subside enough to catch his breath and dry his eyes, though he was far slower to let go of his mother.

"i will not fail." he rasped, accenting the declaration with an ill-timed hiccup. "i cannot fail."
