Horizon Rock Bands AU: Rock Breakers

The second (and maybe last?) band of the AU that’s been leaving no place for any other thoughts in my mind. Jem and the Holograms inspired. Ereloy implied 🧡✨

The band

The original leader of the group was Ersa, who started forming Rock Breakers with her brother Erend. However, after a tragedy left her unable to continue being part of the band, the Vanguard siblings decided that Erend should carry on with the group's formation. After what had happened, their mission was more critical than ever: to bring down Nemesis, its members, and their unfair musical dominance.

Avad, a wealthy representative with whom Ersa had a very close relationship, helped Erend in the search for other members who shared their common goal. That's how Varl, Kotallo, Drakka, and Nil joined the band, shaping the unique and diverse style that Rock Breakers is known for. Their blend of romantic and heavy sound has earned them a loyal fanbase, though, thanks to Nemesis' schemes, they've never managed to win The Proving. During the competition, they met Alpha Prime and came to the conclusion that both bands needed to support each other to defeat the evil group. Ersa became Alpha Prime's manager, ensuring that no one—not even they—would get in her little brother's way.

With Avad as their manager, Rock Breakers dominates their tour, which also serves as training for the competition. They don't have the help of any magical computers to make their shows unforgettable, but they pull it off with their creative use of fire and fireworks.

Erend

A deep voice and deep feelings—no wonder Erend is the lead singer and main songwriter of Rock Breakers. He always performs accompanied by his guitar ‘Hammer’, though it’s rarely the same one at each show, as he gets so excited in playing ‘Weird Space Ball’ that he ends up smashing it against the stage. He started competing in music contests for the love of music, but a tragedy changed his purpose: his sister Ersa, with whom he was originally going to form the band, went deaf because of their former boss, Dervahl, who is now a member of the antagonist band Nemesis. Since then, he has devoted himself entirely to destroying that band, just as he smashes his guitars.

With this common goal, it’s no surprise that he’s gotten along well with Alpha Prime since meeting them, though that encounter didn’t just gain him allies—it also changed his heart forever, as he fell head over heels for Aloy the moment he saw her. Since then, nearly all his lyrics have been about her, though Aloy seems to be the only one who hasn’t noticed. He doesn’t hold out much hope that someone as capable and beautiful as her would be interested in him, even though the two minutes she promised him keep becoming longer and longer.

Varl

Varl met Erend at a comic con, and they instantly became friends. Coming from a strict upbringing where music had no place, he learned to play his bass, ‘Seeker,‘ in just a week, solely to join the band and experience the freedom of performing on stage. He’s always ready to carry out any plan that helps defeat Nemesis, even those that require sacrificing his own interests and beliefs. He fell for Zo, a member of Alpha Prime, the moment he met her, and unlike his friend, he did something about it—they´ve been together since, and they´re not subtle about it.

Kotallo

The unstoppable rhythm of his drum set, ‘Bulwark,‘ is unmistakable. Kotallo has been playing it his entire life, and not even the sudden loss of an arm has slowed him down—he continues to captivate the crowd with every beat. He was once a member of the band "The Ten," where he played alongside Regalla, until she defected to join Nemesis after getting Kotallo involved in a street fight that ultimately cost him his arm. Kotallo joined Rock Breakers to get a shot at revenge against his former bandmate and to prove that no matter how she tries to weaken him, he’ll always be a better musician and more honorable than her.

Drakka

He comes from barren lands, though that doesn’t reflect his character at all. Playful and cheeky, his personality shines through in his backing vocals and in the way he plays his ‘Yarra.‘ Every key he presses makes the crowd roar louder, and it ensures he’s never alone after a concert. But his purpose is more serious than it seems: to destroy the reputation of the companies owned by Nemesis members so they stop diverting water from his town for their own gain. Who says you can’t have fun while pursuing the greater good?

Nil

Little is known about his past, but it’s rumored that Nil is searching for redemption. His background is so enigmatic that even the other band members don’t quite remember how or when he became part of the group. Always mysterious, he used to cover his face during performances until he revealed it at the last concert, flashing that intense, mischievous gaze that drove the crowd wild. He found the perfect "Partner" in his guitar, which makes him stand out on stage with its unmistakable sound and with which he always puts on a good show.

Organizing my thoughts/feelings towards Naruto ships and my thoughts/feelings on it (also disclaimer I can’t outright hate any ship, I can always get why people ship it so no bashing in this!)

Let’s start with Canon(if one’s not here then I have zero opinion on it):

ShikaTema: They’re widely liked among the fandom. I don’t hate them. They’re cute and had good development. I would never read a fic for them though so. Take that as you will.

NaruHina: Oh boy. Let’s get into this. So, the thing with them is I love that they could give each other the loving family that that never had growing up. I enjoy them as they are in canon. They’re just..not my favorite romance wise, ya know? I wouldn’t read a fic for them.

SasuSaku: Now these guys, I like these guys. I used to not like them so much but they’ve grown on me a lot. Their dynamic is good and does have development despite what others might say. I would read a fic for them.

NejiTen (they’re canon to me): They could’ve been so much more😭 The one ship with the obvious romantic tension(early on). Probably wouldn’t read a fic for them though.

Non-Canon Straight Ships:

ShikaIno: I think they could’ve grown together as people. Him getting over the sexism. Her getting over the obsession with her looks. Though, honestly, I don’t mind their canon interests it would’ve been interesting to see them together. Would read a fic if it fit specific standards.

LeeSaku: I can see why people ship them, but personally don’t like them romantically. Would not read a fic for them.

KibaHina: I like them. Misunderstanding trope would go crazy with these two. Wouldn’t read a fic but i sure as hell could write one.

NaruSaku: My loves. They could’ve been so much more😔 Though, with them, I love their dynamic in anyway shape or form so I don’t mind that they didn’t end up canon as long as they stay friends. Would read a fic for them.

Non-canon queer ships:

ObiKaka: I love them in a way that nobody else loves them. I like the idea of their og team being a love triangle in the actual way. Obito likes Rin, Rin likes Kakashi, Kakashi likes Obito. But of course, Kakashi couldn’t handle emotions bc of course. Would read a fic for them.

KakaIru: I love them in a married couple and their adopted child way. Not too crazy about them though. Would read a fic where they main pairing but would enjoy their romantic side-plot.

SakuHina: I have very complicated feelings towards this ship. So, the thing with them is I know most people only shipped them so that sasunaru’s wives were out of the way. I don’t like that. But if someone likes them for different reasons then ily. Wouldn’t read a fic for them.

SakuIno: FAV WLW SHIP😍 So much potential. Another pairing that could grow together + the comphet thing they got going on. I would read a fic for them.

ShikaNaru: Holy biscuits guys, I love them. Naruto’s first friend. The Hokage and his advisor?! I also love the idea of Chill Guy Shikamaru with the most unchill person in existence. Would read a fic for them.

SasuNaru: Very first queer ship I ever shipped (that’s crazy) back in the day. Of course I love them!! The bond they share is like no other in the show. They’re like, literally soulmates. Sun and Moon. As Sasuke said, his “ONE AND ONLY…friend!” Would read a fic for them.

MadaTobi: Oh my lord. I love them. Was very confused when i first discovered this ship. I definitely understand now. They’re so divorced in the war arc lmao. Would read a fic for them.

Team 7: As in, Sasuke, Sakura, and Naruto. This is a no brainer since I love all of these ships individually. It’s very “I’m bisexual and my girl and guy crushes started dating😕” They figure it out eventually. Would read a fic for them.

Boruto ships:

InoHima: They’re cute. Love a ship where the girl is stronger than the guy. The implied future canon ships in Boruto have a lot more development earlier on than the Naruto canon ones do so i’m really enjoying it. Though, I wouldn’t read a fic for them just yet (this may change).

BoruSara: By far my favorite straight ship in all Naruto media. Way up there in all time favs. Love an Uchiha x Uzumaki ship, but honestly, I don’t ship them this crazily because they’re the next best thing behind sasunaru. They have a completely different dynamic that i love. Would read a fic for.

So what are your thoughts on TreyKei?

They're besties, they're worsties. They're married and have two cats (then again, Trey seems to be more of a dog-person. Maybe a dog and a cat?), they'll never be a couple. They love each other, they'll never be able to love each other.

I'm so physically ill about them and their unlimited possibilities.

There are so many thoughts in my head and knowing that you always liked my rambles, I won't try to hold back and let it all out for once haha. I can't promise that I'm being able to express it all because you can imagine my thoughts as followed: Idia, Malleus and Jade infodumping about their special interests while Kalim screams for funsies in the distance and Cater runs around as if he's on a sugar rush - All of it happening at the same time, of course.

Anyways.

You can have Friends to Lovers if you want to, you can have a slow burn, you can have a fall in love on first sight, Friends with benefits, one sided affection, Angst in every shape and Form, a million different AUs that still fits them.

I personally see them both being bisexual. I'm not sure how to explain it but if I had to give an example of a bisexual, it would be them. But here's the thing: I genuinely can't imagine Cater being able to 'love' in the classic, romantic way - I'm not sure if it's projecting onto him or a deep understanding of his personality but I just can't see him being in love as your average romance novel describes. He shows his love in other ways and I swear by hell itself, Trey is one of the main targets of that affection (in my opinion, at least).

If you ask me, he has a lot of commitment issues due to his past and the lack of stable friendships. There are also some nuances of trust issues mixed in that, due to the learned mindset of "It won't last forever" that he had acquired throughout his life. He keeps people at an arms length, possibly to protect others and himself for the, eventually coming, parting. "If I don't get attached too close, it won't hurt as bad."

We can, in fact, see Cater do this in canon - Especially with Trey because he sees through his act. I do love to point out the Wish Upon a Star event where we have a, in my opinion, very important scene and I do have to admit that I honestly got emotional at the end of it: Trey asks Cater what his wish is - Having more success on Magicam (which is one hell of a predictable answer if you ask me). Trey points out he did wish for that the past year, remembering it from the time they shared a room. Cater then wishes for his life to be "chill", and they part ways. Standing in the Heartslabyul staircase, Trey talks to himself on how one 'would think that Cater would open up a bit more by now.' Following with a (in my opinion it sounded sad/upset) 'But maybe he does already. Just not with me.' (I do recommend to watch the scene on your own to get your own impression on it. You can easily find it on YouTube).

Yet, despite the seemingly distance, they're still considered a duo that is unsurprising to any student (Lilia calls Trey Caters Partner and Rook refers to Cater as Treys "Boon Companion").

I had the HC for a long time that Cater may try to escape his issues at home by going with Trey instead and only later I found out that it's not too far from canon. Trey most likely also knows about Caters' situation at home, which is seen in multiple different situations - which, if you ask me, is already a deep trust coming from Caters side.

Overall, they know each other's strengths AND weaknesses and know how to match each other well. Whether it is Cater boosting Treys confidence about his looks or Trey pointing out Caters skills in Astrology (and many other things but I ain't gonna point every single of them out rn).

Speaking of weaknesses and strengths: Remember how Trey called Cater out after Riddles OB?

A while ago, I've read through Caters Birthday Boy Voicelines and you know what? This guy has been gifted a "diamond-shaped quiche" from "a student". While no names dropped, we all know who made this one - Especially because Cater does seem to be quite fond of Treys general cooking and baking, if it's not sweet, of course. Not that I can blame him, spicy dishes aren't easy to make. You can fuck them up easily and if your man can cook 'em well, you better marry him.

But enough of Cater, there is too much to unpack about him to show it all. Let's move on to Trey, which is not as easy as it first sounds like. Why, you ask? Well, because he's showing even less than Cater! Both of them are chronic actors, both hiding their true, their damaged, their 'weird' faces - acting to be 'normal', to not freak people out, to not make them worry. Trey is a really good example of the 'oldest child' syndrome, which is, in return, quite bad for him - But that turns his friendship with Cater into a positive thing. Ahem, one step at a time.

Why is Trey a perfect example of the 'oldest child' syndrome? Well, he's "oh so normal", yes? Or so they say, after all. If you're the oldest child, you need to be a certain way - not only for your parents or your siblings but for your own safety. As the oldest child, you're bound to be a "test subject". No matter how good your childhood may have been, your siblings will have a seemingly, easier path - Things you weren't allowed are suddenly okay for them to do. Your siblings have an older sibling to rely on while you, as the oldest, had to fight alone. You need to protect the younger ones because it's expected but you need to keep yourself running too because no one does it for you. By being born first, you're practically forced to be in a position of a role model, a teacher and a friend.

Especially if you're having odd interests, such as oral hygiene, mustard, hats and what-not - You are forced to act normal because you will be looked at weird otherwise (I mean, he's friends with the perfect example on what happens if you express your "weirdness" out loud: Rook Hunt). I really like to put Trey on a scale when it comes to "Acts normal, is weird" because if you're weird, there are three types:

1. Rook Hunt - Expresses weirdness out loud with no shame

2. Jade Leech - Suppresses weirdness but the suppression has become weird on his own because he's weird in quiet

3. Trey Clover - Swears to be normal and is successful for the most of it, does show weirdness in little moments

All three of them have different reasons, and valid ones once you realize why they're that way, to be the way they are but in the end, they're three weird people who have learned how to "express" their oddness.

[Disclaimer: I am not using weird as an insult. This term is used to refer to socially not as accepted behavior or actions that are frowned upon. In other words: I am using society's definition of "weird" and not my own.]

Anyways, despite being the oldest child he is, Trey still shows Cater a bit of the truth: Instead of awkwardly smiling when he's uncomfortable, Trey stops smiling if he's with Cater. And in the Vignette of Treys Dorm Uniform, we can see that Cater knows a few more faces of Trey that are rarely seen otherwise - In the given example: It was Treys pettiness, deserved but it was still a rare emotion. If I recall correctly, this Vignette was the only time where we had seen Treys' pettiness, which was quite satisfying to see but that's just my two cents.

It's just so genuinely fascinating to see how similar yet so different they are, it makes both of them a tragic lovestory (if wanted) that drags me across the entire planet and I'd thank them for that.

And what I personally find almost mesmerizing is Caters actions: On one side, he seems to keep Trey not too close, yet he seems to have a lot of trust in him and I think it's unintentionally mentally messing with him because it may not be intentional. I could see that Trey might have this specific vibe that makes Cater feel comfortable and chatty about topics he wouldn't often talk about (specifically when they're both alone). Another guess of mine is that Cater might make too many jokes about certain parts of his trauma/issues and instead of his other pals, Trey actually looks behind the "jokes" because as much coping with humor may help, it's still a way to vocalize pain. But Trey doesn't strike me to be the type of actually calling Caters jokes out the moment he does them (example that I just made up: "Man, my phone died. Wish that was me lol" "Cater, those jokes aren't funny" etc etc). I think he'd have a more subtle way of showing Cater that he saw through that laughing, such as speaking up when it feels appropriate (Book 1) or just acts of service and/or quality time - Simply showing him that Cater does have someone who listens.

I've lost track at least five times and I forgot half of what I wanted to add.. Man, I hate my brain sometimes. I also often try to express my thoughts about these in my memes - In fact, the Memes with/about Cater, Trey or both of them together are possibly the posts where I'm carefully inspecting if it fits the canon and my own pov of them. I do it for all my memes, of course but I want people to deeply understand how much of a disaster those two (both, on their own and together) are because it's extremely overlooked, in my opinion (especially Trey).

Anyways, have this very neat HC of mine that I have about those two because it has been rotting away in my brain (I had intended to add more HCs but it somehow doesn't fit in the text):

Whenever Cater uses his UM 'Split Card', Trey knows which Cater is the original one. They may be identical but Trey can still tell the difference. How? He isn't really sure himself, it might be just his instinct. Cater has made it a game at some point where he wants Trey to guess and has tried many ways to lead his instinct astray but he has yet to succeed.

like, I could even picture reader finding out about this and then understanding why he doesn't reciprocate your feelings as much as you'd like (even though the two of you have great chemistry and he clearly has feeling for you as well) and so, the reader proceeds to distance themselves little by little, mainly out of guilt bcs like "damn, I am trying to get with a man who's married and has a daughter" and out of insecurity that you would never be like his wife in any way, shape or form for him to love you back (even though he already does but they don't know that).

I feel like Viktor would notice their sudden change of behavior but I don't think he would do much about it because he'd think they found someone better for them than him, or they fell out of love with him after he opened up a little to them (these are the insecurities that he has and now he thinks it's actually coming true).

and so, the two of them would be silently yearning/longing for each other but now with an invisible barrier between them and if he ever confessed to reader they'd be like:

(this has been my roman empire ever since I found out about his estranged family 😭 even though I am a pessimist by nature I still want a happy ending to this)

it would take Ivy and Mitzi to help them guys out because out of everyone they were the ones rooting a lot for them to end up together and for their ship to sink lol (in this scenario Viktor hasn't confessed and reader didn't reject him)

Mitzi (pretending that she doesn't know that you and Viktor are getting distant with each other) "casually" talks to you about how much happier Viktor has been ever since they've entered his life and how much he needed for a good thing to happen in his life, how she never saw him smile as much as he did with them, and so on.

Ivy, on the other hand would be berating the shit out of Viktor like "what the hell is going on?? you guys were so cute together and now I barely see you two even talk!" he'd reluctantly and begrudgingly say what he thinks is going on, that you found someone better, that you are better off without him but Ivy would say that that's nonsense, she knows you'd never do that without even saying something about it and that's what brings her to ask "did you even talk to them?" and he'd stay silent. after talking with the two of you, lvy and Mitzi would have to get the two of you alone to talk and sort things out. Mitzi would place a letter on your nightstand telling you to meet her at the garage (where Viktor would be) when you get there and your eyes lock the air is filled with an awkward silence, you quickly find out that Mitzi and lvy set the two of you up for this after Viktor asks where's Ivy bcs she told him to meet him there.

after you explain to him that they planned this you say that it's unnecessary and you don't

even know why they'd do this (obvious lie) you start walking out but Viktor stops you by gently holding your wrist, and then you see it in his face, his furrowed brows (they were almost always furrowed but never like this), the longing in his gaze (you don't remember seeing him look at you with so much emotion before), the bags under his eyes (he hasn't been sleeping properly), the silent plea for you to stay (who are you to deny him when he looks at you so lovingly like this?)

you two spend hours talking and explaining how you feel in the verge of tears, leading to a confession of both parties. the two of you end up holding each other in a long and warm embrace, whispering sweet nothings in each other's ear.

Uh, so in the original novel version of Duplicity, Taipan's name was actually EdgyTaipan, and it was just a name I came up with HAHA it's been shortened to make it easier for me to format in Ren'Py. Lore wise? probably just cause it sounds cool LMAO and they've never met because MC was focused on their writing for a long time and didn't make time for anything else other than occasional online gaming and chatting. Plus my HC is that MC lived too far, but that's a thing that's up to players as well uvu/

lover boy - wip (re)intro

How do you navigate love after losing the person you loved the most?

I realised I don't like writing WIP intros where I just list everything super neatly + have a nice official summary so I am just going to infodump!! Lover Boy is an Adult Literary/Historical novel set in the late 1980s that follows a gay man's navigation of love, sexuality, community and grief after losing his best friend to AIDS. It's inspired by my own experiences of grief + caretaking and the dissertation I did on grief in queer AIDS narratives. It follows Beau, my beautiful special boy, and is like patchwork quilt of all of his avenues of love -- romantic, sexual, platonic, familial, communal, self -- that is stitched together with the grief from this one major loss. This is paralleled with chronological flashbacks telling the story of Bobby's illness, and how Beau took care of him.

Beau and Bobby are best friends who were platonically in love with each other, who had to adapt their relationship as Bobby got sicker and Beau became his caretaker, and in the midst of this adversity became closer than ever. Beau is a lover of love in all ways, who thinks the best holidays Halloween and Valentines Day, who loves sex but is bad at not falling in love afterwards, who has a soft heart, who also has a massive crush on George Michael. Bobby loved his life, his friends and going to the club with them, scenic hikes and swimming, his pet snake named Judas, leather and heavy metal and activism and also the Muppets (his fave was Gonzo btw). He was obsessed with volcanoes and wanted to be a volcanologist. And Beau misses him so much!!! He is trying to understand what his life is now after losing such a big part of it. He is trying to understand what kind of love he wants. He also is trying really hard not to fall back in love with his ex boyfriend who is back in the picture. And he is not really doing any of this well!!

Other features of this novel:

Gay + Autistic protagonist who doesn't know he is autistic but his special interest is horror movies and it shows (favourites are anything monstrous + full of bloodsoaked practical effects. Favourite of all time is The Lost Boys). Beau literally looks towards horror movies to try and understand grief and loss

Protagonist is a guy who actively wants to be haunted and is looking for any signs of ghosts

Lesbian + Gay + Bi + Trans + everything solidarity. An honouring of that history. Exploration on how the AIDS crisis shaped and reshaped community and identity because well, I did an entire dissertation on it and I am not putting that to waste!!! It is interesting and important!!

A narrative that is brutally honest about grief and death, and all the ways it is messy and complicated. A narrative that also doesn't always take itself seriously because sadness and joy are always holding hands

Narrative that plays around with form (video transcripts, letters, journal entries, descriptions of art) and POV (past + present tense blended together, third person present that often dips into second)

Exploration of caretaking on a community level and an intimate, one to one level. Look into how love is often all the little ways we help each other hold on.

Exploration of disability and sickness and how it shapes your identity, your relationship with yourself and others, especially when you're young (I also have a novella planned actually exploring this from Bobby's POV, but you didn't hear that from me!!!!)

The idea that grief never gets smaller, just your life grows around it

The idea that you can love your friends!!! You can be in love with them!! And that love is no "lesser" than romantic love, and it is just as beautiful and big and bright. Even when Beau navigates romantic relationships, these aren't put on a pedestal above any other type of love

I've been playing around with it in its current form for about a year now and am finally making a dent in an actual first draft. I've been thinking about this the whole day and I can't stop coming to the conclusion that Lestat has no idea what a family is. Like his main goal is to find a companion not form a traditional family, but Louis specifically mentions wanting kids and is devastated by the fact that he would not have what he considers 'family'. Of course he actually has a childhood that those expectations are based on, while Lestat has only Gabrielle (and in my opinion their whole relationship is a testament to how disfigured his view of a familial bond is). He was always running from home into freedom and in contrast, for Louis, his family home was probably the only place he could feel peacefu and in control to some extent.

I totally agree, anon. I talked about it a bit in the post I wrote about Lestat being - in my reading - steeped in the Milton's Satan gothic archetype, but the sense of being God's favourite angel kicked out of heaven and building a perverted, often incestuous family unit in response to that exile, really feels vital in terms of both the families Lestat creates in these early chapters of his life - the first being with Gabrielle and Nicki, the second with Louis and Claudia. Where he differs I think is that his inherent understanding of what a family unit is is two-fold, right? With Gabrielle in the Marquis' house, it's finding the one other person who'll offer you any sort of love and companionship, even a neglectful, and ultimately abusive one, and it's masculine violence felt through both father and brothers.

This is a slight diversion, but one of the things the rewatch has made me really percolate on is Lestat in part choosing Louis because he sees him both physically fight and then pull a knife on his brother, when from the books we know Lestat's brothers beat him regularly. I've mentioned a few times on here, but the show does flirt with the idea of there being a brotherly-incest between Lestat and Louis sometimes despite them obviously not being related - it's baked into Louis being Daddy Lou to Claudia and Lestat being Uncle Les, the titled implication there is that they would be brothers-in-law, if not brothers - doubled down on with Claudia insisting she becomes both their sister, something that again makes them brothers, and I think there's a further interesting note to that with Louis killing Lestat with the knife he threatened his brother with - the very thing that attracted Lestat to Louis in the first place. Louis' obviously not an abusive man, but he does have a capacity for violence and there's a seeking out of familial violence in Lestat that I think is deeply rooted in his experiences of love.

Perversion of the family unit is a tenet of gothic literature - and I promise I will one day finish my essay about Lestat seeing Claudia as romantic competition and what that tells us about Gabrielle, haha - and it really is about blurring the lines between who's what to each other. Louis and Lestat and Claudia are two fathers and a daughter, two brothers and a sister, a father, a son and a daughter - their relationships are constantly shifting, and while I agree that Louis had a more traditional understanding of the family unit, he's not immune to those shifting roles. Even in his mortal life, he's both brother and father to Paul and Grace by nature of being the patriarch following the death of their father, which makes him by proxy both son and husband to Florence. The incest there is far less physical than it is for Lestat and Gabrielle, but there are emotional mm, I guess I'd say implications to it that I think Louis probably feels the weight of.

But yeah, I do think Lestat feels his family as something he had to escape from in a way that Louis never did, which definitely shapes both their understandings of what the home they make together is and should be.

I have seen zk shippers saying the writers want zutara and Bryke forced them make Kataang canon, John O’Bryan (one of writers of the show) say was fight and they lost

Ah, so you have seen them lying. Welcome to the club. These people have been making that kind of shit up for YEARS, and every single time they change which writer is "confirming" that Kataang was something they had no idea was supposed to be canon (usually because said writer goes "This is false" and thus becomes an enemy to them).

Their favorite thing to use as "proof" is an "interview with Aaron Ehasz" in which he "confirmed" Zutara was the original plan, and that HE was the real writer behind the show all along until evil Bryke stole it from him - and he has already said a billion times that said interview never happned and every "information" in it is completely made up. In fact, he wrote plenty of Kataang and Maiko episodes, and has said one of his favorite things about working on the show was getting a letter from a fan that was glad Mai got her happy ending with Zuko.

Here are a few episodes John O'Brien wrote, to make that point even clearer:

The Fortuneteller (co-written with Ehasz, to the surprise of no one) - The episode in which we see Katara first start to consider Aang as a potential future boyfriend.

The Earth King - We have Aang almost confessing to Katara that he loves her.

The Headband - One of the most Kataang heavy episodes of the show, which has a romantic dance AND Katara being jealous when she sees Aang paying attention to another girl.

Nightmares And Daydreams - Has the infamous "Baby, you're my forever girl" moment, and half the episode is just Zuko and Mai cuddling and making out on her couch.

The Ember Island Players - Has a Kataang falling out, yes, but it also activelly mocks Zutara, and when Aang asks Katara if it's true that she only thinks of him as her little brother, she says "I didn't say that, an actor said that." And let's not forget, Katara said she was confused, not that she had zero interest in Aang. Compare that to her and Zuko awkwardly moving away from each other because the very thought that people think they are couple makes the uncomfortable and you see which ship was being shown as a bad idea that no one wanted.

Now, many original ideas for the show were scrapped or changed, yes. The writers, producers and showrunners have mentioned them many times: Iroh was originally going to be a twist-villain, Suki had been intended to be just a one-off character, Azula was originally going to be a boy and older than Zuko, etc.

And there was a cut love triangle. Between Aang, Katara... and Toph. Who was going to be male and a totally buff dude, like we see in Ember Island Players.

The show joked about Zutara later on, and God knows Nickelodeon used the fact that the ship was popular to make people keep talking about the show (even having some "fun facts" that were often incorrect or fully made up, including one about Zuko having originally been meant to be Katara's love interest - which like I just explained, was actually Toph's original role in the story) but the writers have ALWAYS made it clear that the plan for "main pairing" was KATAANG, and that Zutara was something the fandom thought of and latched onto.

Zutara was NEVER meant be a thing. Fans can like it, of course, but to claim that it was ever canon in any way, shape or form is just a lie.

5. What did they do to explore their queerness? Have they tried to explore it at all?

Jao (from TGDW) has really not thought about it. She's been busy being a healer for her village, and then literally the queen's father, and then staying on as the queen's right hand. She's been grinding too hard to worry about gay stuff.

However, spending so much time around Xinya and attending all her formal events and helping her dress has. Y'know. Opened her mind to the possibility.

9. Did it take them a long time to figure out which labels they prefer? Are they still searching for the right fit?

Priscilla (from Henry & Priscilla) is very ignorant of labels, because it's the 1930s, so the few labels she's aware of are insults, plus she runs the mob and has to make sure she's a leader respectable (read=powerful) enough to follow. She hasn't spent enough time around other queer people to know what they would call her whole gender situation. For now, she just "feels like a man sometimes" and that's that. She'd like to find a label, but you don't know what you don't know. Part of her is convinced she's the only one like this.

Romantic Orientation

2. Do they enjoy dating or prefer being single?

Asim (from my Unnamed Dream WIP) has never had the luxury of dating. Before he became the Speaker for his village, his parents were thinking about arranging a marriage for them, but they died before it could pan out and Asim ascended to his role as a wiseman/healer/problem solver for everyone in his general radius, and thus taking on any of them as a spouse would look like special treatment.

When they think about it, they might like the idea of being in a relationship or starting a family with someone, but it's not something he needs to be happy.

8. Are they polyamorous? Do they consider it an orientation or a preference?

Justice (of Pride & Justice) would definitely 100% be polyamorous, he loves love, he would be thrilled at the opportunity to have multiple romantic partners, or even to just have different types of relationships that span the gap between platonic and romantic... if Pride didn't have so many fucking problems that would immediately implode any polycule he ever tried to form or join.

For Justice, it's something he can choose. Being poly would be nice, but the way his life currently stands, he's more than happy being monogamous too.

11. How has their romantic orientation shaped their interactions with peers and family?

Yvonne (from my Horny Urban Fantasy Anthology) was so so so shy in her herd, and continued to be so so so shy once she left it. If anything, being biromantic/bisexual just made her more nervous around literally everyone she ever interacted with that she found even a little bit cute. Centaur herds are a mix of family and peer, as not all of them are all related to each other but they all live together as if they were, so she was very close to everyone she knew. This eased her shyness a little bit around people she considered closer to "family" than "romantic prospect." But as soon as she got out into the Big City, and all she had was peers, she's playing Extreme Wallflower at every social gathering.

Gender Identity

4. How do they prefer to present?

Hayden (from Dragon Raising) has long since given up trying to present to what society expects a Black man to present like. He's often on crutches, and when he's not, his MS means he wants to be wearing comfortable clothes that are easy to move in at all times. Adaptive clothes are pretty expensive, so he takes what he can get when it comes to fashion.

On a meta-level, I'd call him.... soft masc? He's not concerned with being macho, but he's not really feminine either.

7. If they’re trans, do they plan on socially transitioning? In which ways? If not, why not?

Pride (of Pride & Justice) has basically socially transitioned in all the ways he wants, and doesn't really bother trying to "pass". He uses the pronouns he likes, he uses the name he likes, he wears—well he wears whatever the fuck he wants, but in a distinctly transgender way.

Intersexuality

15. How does their intersexuality interact with their other identities?

At time of writing, my only intersex OC is a side character from Pride & Justice. One of the members of the book club Justice attends, Chris (it/its), is intersex. I don't have a whole lot about it on my blog rn, I mention it in Justice's powerpoint that I made, and I do plan on making a whole slideshow just for the book club because there's a lot of characters to cover, but for now I will drop the picrew i made for it

I am still in the early days of my research about intersex variations and stuff, but I do know that Chris has Late Onset Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (LOCAH). Signs of puberty appeared in childhood, way earlier than every other kid it knew, and a lot of people in its life were not kind. After basically an entire childhood of being called "it" and a "thing", Chris has embraced it instead of giving in to dehumanization. It takes a lot of joy in being immune to categorization, and "my gender is Thing" is their way of reflecting those attempted insults back at the world.

Additionally, it was very hard to connect with other straight peers in its youth, much less get romantic with them, and trying to conform to cis beauty norms made everything worse. It gave up after high school, at first out of futility, but over time learned to embrace its masculine qualities and started curating them on purpose. It had always known it was attracted to men, but in embracing its own masculinity, it found it was able to appreciate the masculine no matter what gender it was attached to. Achillean really was the perfect word for it, and to this day it appreciates the masculine from butches to bears.

Also it has frogs. It has three White's Tree Frogs named Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Gonzo. This has nothing to do with sexuality but it is very important that you know this.

Of course Armand would keep getting all the stuff mortal Daniel would've needed, and would keep it in his bathroom unused for years, despite the fact that Daniel was neither mortal or actively involved with him at the time. And of course Daniel would find it there during his first night back in Armand’s bedroom in over twenty years. I’m fine this is f i n e 🥹

Also, whenever I finish reading a chapter I usually read through the comments and nod my head in agreement all the way through and this time I noticed you mentioned Fareed's drugs in one of your replies and I was like 👀 I know it’s a popular trope in the fandom these days (and with good reason too lmao, Anne really did that huh) and I would LOVE to read your take on it some day if you're feeling up to it. It’s specially interesting when it comes to these two because there are definitely some vampires who’ve never explicitly expressed sexual desire for another or even the need to have a sexually intimate connection with their partners. It’s sensual/romantic without being overtly sexual and Anne was particularly great at writing that. But I don’t think it's the case with Daniel and Armand who were very explicitly erotic with each other and whose intimacy was one of the main driving forces of their relationship (and their relationship most likely suffered a great deal when they lost that element). And lbr neither of them would pass on the opportunity to smash like god intended them to. Even if only for old times’ sake like Daniel said. Armand would probably get sanctimonious about it for like two seconds and then would jump right into it. They're not NOT taking turns in fucking each other is what I'm trying to say lmao but I'll stop before I'm horny on main again!

Astrid would ask it purely as a joke and, as much as Andromeda does have fun playing into Astrid’s bits sometimes, she’d respond with a completely genuine “Of course, always”. As much as it might be a silly question, she’s very serious about making sure her changeling wife knows that she loves her no matter what form she’s in or what she looks like. This would of course immediately be followed by Astrid repeatedly wild-shaping into a worm for hours on end for like a week just to mess with her. 

1. Who fell first? Who fell harder? [Blitzling]

I don’t know if the traditional idea of romantic love exactly fits what they have going on, but in terms of the feelings they do have, Aisling fell first and Blitz fell harder. Aisling might’ve taken an interest in Blitz early on as just a source of amusement but they definitely grew to have a genuine fondness for her, especially after realizing the two have very similar tendencies towards extreme and unprompted violence. Blitz mostly thought of Aisling as an interesting companion and fun bedmate until she realized that she was actually able to talk to them about some of the more fucked up parts of her history. And when Aisling manages to track down the people who made Blitz’s early life hell and burns them to death in front of her? Blitz falls real hard and real fast for this unhinged jester freak.

73. Who knows the other better? Why is this? [Kell-shali]

They both know each other extremely well of course, but I think Mata-shali probably beats Kell-ehir on that just slightly? Although actually, it might be more that they know each other better in different ways. Mata-shali tends to be more naturally in tune with others than her fiance in general and can instantly recognize any of Kell-ehir’s emotions– she’s more aware of his little tics and the subtle way his thoughts show even when he’s not saying them and doesn’t even really have to try to know what’s going on in his head. On the other hand, Kell-ehir is more actively observational. He might not be able to understand shifts in Shali’s facial expressions or body language as well, but he notices and remembers things like her favorite teas, her dancing quirks, what type of noise is harshest for her, etc better than she tends to for him.

48. If they ever had less than 5 mins to tell their S/O something before never seeing them again, what would they say? [Apari]

First off, absolutely fucked up question to ask for these three, my guys who canonically do get all the time they need to say everything important to each other before two of them die. But at least it means I’ve already thought about this in depth.

Opal - To Ace (assuming they’re not in the middle of one of their fights, which is a real possibility given how much these two love their drama) he’d want to thank them for dragging his ass out of Goldcrest even though he was a complete basket case, an addict who was so unwilling to change or believe anything could get better and fought Ace every step of the way. He’d tell them that as much as they piss him the fuck off sometimes, he sees exactly where their anger comes from and has never ever been afraid of it. He’d also probably toss in that he’s literally never had better sex with anyone else and Ace should charge more for their services. To Jabari I think he’d keep it short since the way that Jabari is so genuine and kind will never cease to freak him out just a little bit when things get sentimental. That being said, he’d thank him for keeping an eye on Ace during the years that Opal left them to their own devices. He’d also tell him that, even though he thinks Jabari is way too nice and it’s going to come back and fuck him at some point, he appreciates that Jabari’s grace and patience extended to him to the extent that it did.

Ace - To Opal he would have to make it so goddamn clear that he loves him and that even though they fight so so often that he never regretted their relationship or the fact that he had to take on a worse contract to buy Opal’s passage topside as well as his own. He would tell him how proud he is of all the progress Opal has made and how much he’s changed since they were both in Goldcrest. If he had time he’d absolutely tell him how grateful he is that Opal never permanently abandoned him despite the way that he’s seen (and been the target of) Ace’s angriest, nastiest, and most petty side very frequently. To Jabari I think they would say something with regard to how good and kind of a person he is and how it always amazed Ace, how it inspired them to keep doing good and keep softening the more destructive part of themself even during the times when they were doing very poorly and might otherwise have become extremely cynical towards the world.

Jabari - First, he’s by far the most sentimental and openly loving out of the three and I think that would really come out in a scenario like this. To Opal he’d admit that he had a difficult time getting along with him at first but that he’s so extremely glad that they were forced to continue spending time around each other (thank you, Ace) because Opal is deeply special to him. Similar to Ace, he’d mention how proud he is of Opal’s progress and that it brings him so much joy to have gotten to see and be a part of Opal eventually finding a genuine love of the life around him. To Ace he would thank for the way that they constantly pulled him into new experiences and adventures and opened his eyes to an entirely new aspect of the world. He’d apologize for all of the things they’ve had to go through in their lifetime and ask them to keep nurturing the part of themself that is kind and wants to fight for others.

Fun story about this romper below the cut!

I’ve had it since I was a man (pictured above) and it became a staple of my wardrobe for many social events. I wore it the night of my 21st birthday to a gay bar in Seattle with my friend Monty. He’d later become my best friend, but at this point we’d only met once before. The night of my birthday we parked and did a shot of vodka in his car before going inside (to save on drinks). Monty had been seeing this guy AJ for a while and I thought they were both very cute so I said “before I get inebriated, I just want you to know that if this night ends with a three-way between you, me and AJ I’m totally fine with that” he agreed, we toasted with another shot, and entered the club.

My first night as an out and proud adult in a gay bar was formative for me. I saw some incredibly fierce drag queens perform, I made out with lots of men (and one woman) on the dance floor, and I got absolutely wasted for the first time in public. It was magnificent. It’s a shame that bar isn’t there any more.

After we’d danced the night away, we went back to AJ’s apartment and started getting frisky in the boudoir. We’re all going hot and heavy, making out when Monty falls asleep. AJ and I looked at each other and rolled him over and carried on right next to his unconscious body.

Fast forward a few years.

That story has become a defining moment of our friendship since we reconnected a few years later. While we were reminiscing about it the other day I found some pictures from that night and said “oh my god! I still have that romper too!” Monty was thrilled, he said I had to wear it to his birthday party. The theme was “The Eras Party” dress as yourself from your fiercest era— past, present, or future. I’d been thinking of a suitable outfit for weeks with no ideas. Yeah, I had this romper in my back pocket, but I no longer felt like it represented my fiercest era. It felt like one so far gone I hardly recognized.

I tend to get very insecure about how I’m perceived in my own community. It all seemed so much easier when I “was” a “gay man.” The more feminine my presence becomes, the more it feels like the gay men I’ve loved for so long are losing interest. And can I blame them? Their whole lives they’ve been fighting for right to love the *men* they’re attracted to, and at what point does that no longer include me? I could never imagine myself pursuing a straight man, nor could I imagine one pursuing me. I constantly feel too feminine for the gay boys and too masculine for the straight ones. It’s an alienating feeling. At what point do I cross the threshold from gay man to trans woman? Short answer: the threshold doesn’t exist. Or maybe it could if I wanted it too. If I asked for a feminine name and pronouns tomorrow, I think people would have a much easier time understanding that! But that’s not what I want. I want to be feminine, sure, but it isn’t so clean cut as “gay man” OR “trans woman.” This must be why I prefer “queer” and “faggot” over any other identity labels. My white-whale romantic partner is someone who’s not only okay with, but actively celebrates my queerness in all its shapes.

Then it hit me. The party. I could add a new twist to a classic Miles outfit! Keep the romper, but add the orange crop that shows off my small but growing tits!! Drop the shoulder, and add feminine accessories!!! Style my hair in a fun side-pony!!!! Now we have a flirty look that takes the best qualities of my past and points them toward the future. It’s a little cheesy, and a lot of fuss to make over an outfit for a single party, but this is a meaningful moment for me as my ever-fluid gender expression continues to change.

I sometimes grieve the loss of the handsome man in that picture. I wonder if I should have tried harder to find happiness as I was instead of changing. Moments like this remind me I am not losing any part of myself to pursue happiness. I don’t have to give up the things that made me happy before. I can still be the gay man I’ve always been, and then some.

I wish I had a better point to end with so I’ll happily say that this night, too, ended with me removing the romper for passionate sex with a man who likes me. Just as I am.

Boss and Noeul rant

First off I want to say is that their relationship is a sight to see. I would have to describe as a more than friends less than lovers relationship because of how they interact with each other on and off screen.

With that being said let the rant begin.

Divine timing, soulmates, maybe twin flames, and magnetic attraction.

These are the words I would describe their origin story to the present (in terms of their current partnership).

So first, I would say Noeul came back to Thailand from S. Korea after graduation and after the Pandemic ( the Pandemic could be seen as a reason to begin, prolong, or delay certain events in people's lives).

Second, the day they met at casting, Noeul approached Boss first, out of every other guy at casting, he decided to approach him and not only chat with Boss to pass the time, but they exchanged contact information with the possibility that they would connect and meet each other regardless of the outcome from casting. So not only did they speak, exchange contact info, but they also get casted for LITA as a couple.

So here we are, these two guys that have been casted as each other's love interest, and as you know with most BL shows/couples, workshops can only do so much and it is encouraged that you build chemistry outside of work. And we can see they definitely did that.

That now brings me to the topic of soulmates, maybe twin flames. Soulmates or even twin flames doesn't necessarily mean romantic (Twin flames are much more complex than soul mates and I do believe that people are over using the word without truly understanding the meaning, but that's for another day).

From the a lot of their interviews ( Thank God for fandom translators, you have a special place in my heart), they speak very often of their relationship (friendship or otherwise) outside of work, where it is mainly the two of them. Overall, they have a deep connection built on trust, safety, and unconditional love (however you want to look at it).

Their soulmate or twin flame relationship is something that we may truly never understand, in it's entirety. And you know, we don't really need to.

Now as any true BL shipper, we love watching them together and they have this attraction to each other that I would describe at magnetic.

As far as we know, they talk to each other everyday and they hangout with each other just as much, but what I will say is that when they are in each other's presence, physically, they are either touching in one way, shape or form, or they are in each others orbits. I believe that Boss likes being hugged by Noeul, he enjoys his warmth (giving small spoon vibes) and Noeul is often seen falling into Boss' embrace.

You can say where there is one, the other is not far behind.

When LITA started and they had their events, and from their social media content, I really thought that they took fanservice a little too seriously, but I truly believe that they have deep affection for each other and they can't help but show it.

I have written before that while Boss and Noeul may not be in a romantic relationship, I do believe that they like each other and they both have different ways of showing it. I believe that Boss' affection towards Noeul is very direct, while Noeul's is subtle.

Boss likes to stare at Noeul, blatantly, not caring that they're in front of an audience and it is being caught on camera. But also let's not forget Boss will find some way to touch Noeul and he definitely tries to be less obvious (but the fandom always catches it). With Noeul, he catches himself much quicker, I feel like when he looks at Boss, sometimes it's in awe and I don't think he realizes it.

In addition to their height difference, they somehow fit really well with each other like a puzzle. You'll sometime see one or the other put their head in the crook of the other's neck and it fits like a puzzle. One last thing, when they hug each other ( from what I have seen on the show and irl), they look so safe in each others arms. I am not sure if I am describing it correctly, but that's how I feel.

He's always been focused on his craft, not caring for romantic relationships not only because of the potential trouble it could bring to his career, but because he has never experienced them and therefore sees them as unnecessary.

Those who know him on a personal level know, though, that he's not a heartless machine as many people like to think. He's very much a human being with his own feelings, aspirations and frustrations.

So, just because he had never experienced love before, that didn't mean he couldn't feel it at all.

In fact, he realized he loved very, very deeply once he realized he had fallen for you.

For context, 5WIRL, his group, and (y/g/n), were having a collab stage for a very important award ceremony at the end of the year, and the two of you got a special duet song and stage as part of that collaboration.

Through the time the two of you worked together, he found himself starting to enjoy your presence by his side.

From composing, writing lyrics, recording or practicing your performance to having lunch together or texting each other at the end of the day- every little moment made him get attached to you.

He thought it was only because you had become friends through the time you were together.

But once he shared the stage with you, it all suddenly clicked. The way your steps, voices and heartbeats synchronized and harmonized together, the way you seemed to shine more than anyone else under the spotlights in the venue and how he found himself glancing at you during the entire event far more than necessary--

"...Oh..." he realized, practically out of the blue. "...I... like her."

He... didn't know that liking someone- falling in love with someone was that... easy.

Did he try to pursue you immediately?

Absolutely no.

He thought about all the possible consequences- about how he didn't know if your contract forbid you from keeping a relationship, about how much hate would fall down on you if he dared try to approach you...

He didn't want you to get hurt in any shape or form. That's why, he didn't nurture his feelings consciously.

But... that didn't stop them from blooming.

You could (and probably have) send him a stamp of a dog sitting down or a cat with deadpan eyes and just seeing your name in his notifications would set his heart on fire.

This new, strange feelings of his, reflected on his composition, lyrics and performance.

Suddenly there was a different softness to the edge and bluntness that usually characterized his rap, a different air of bittersweetness that laced his singing parts and a different form of longing reflected in his eyes when he stared at the cameras.

His fans did wonder if he had met someone special, or if he was just very inspired out of nowhere.

All the while, he made sure not to let his interest in you be known by anyone, but his group members knew better.

They knew better, and it became painfully obvious, at least for them, when the news broke out for a scandal.

Xiao did not cry that night.

He forces himself to stop opening your chat window every time he checks his phone.

Forces himself to stop watching content related to you because seeing your smile only reminds him that he's not the one that smile is meant for.

It hurts too much, but the thought of even trying to forget about you hurts even more.

So he... can't, do anything much.

And one day, he started to get replies from you.

"I had to deal with some things." You said, "I still can't really talk about it though... Can you please wait? Just a little more. I promise."

...He'd believe your words.

And one day, another headline dropped:

Maybe he should've been angry that you didn't reply much to his texts for so long, maybe he should've told you that. But his heart did a flip the moment his eyes laid on you, sitting in all your beautiful glory in front of him.

You explained to him that the whole dating 'scandal' had been staged by your agency to push the Drama views, and because of your contract, you couldn't say anything to anyone until now.

"I'm really sorry, Xiao! I didn't mean to ignore your questions, I swear! I was so busy, I couldn't..." You'd sigh, looking down at your glass of water. " I know you were worried, so I'm sorry. I should've said something... I'm a terrible friend... aren't I."

Okay, frustration from both this situation and from his advances not being noticed by you mixed together in his heart.
