Surviving The Walking Dead - Meeting Place (Chapter 23)

Summary: After being unable to reach Maggie and Will on the radio after their turn on watch, you and Daryl set out to meet them at a previous agreed upon safe place-a farm house. Tensions rise and danger arrives.

Note: As always mentioned, some of the ideas behind this chapter are strung from AMC’s The Walking Dead. Very little amount of dialogue in this chapter was taken from or is similar to ones that took place in the show. I do not take credit for those that were.

Yes, the farm house cellar idea was taken from later episodes in the show. This is my version.

Chapter Twenty-Three - Chapter Twenty-Four

You and Daryl made your way to the building across the street from the old hotel you’d been seeking refuge in. Evan, Aaron and Ezekiel were still on watch there. They wore genuine looks of concern on their faces as they continued to try and make contact with Will and Maggie.

Part of the roof was caved in with large metal beams fallen over the majority of the remaining space but there was one corner that was sturdy enough for them to sit and discretely survey the area. Daryl grabbed your hand and helped you climb the broken concrete and brick, pulling you to what was left of the roof along with him. 

“How long has it been since you heard from them?” You asked, approaching the men standing around nervously. Evan and Aaron looked at eachother in thought while Daryl reached for the radio in Ezekiel’s hand.

“A little over six hours.” The King confirmed, handing it over to Daryl immediately. You watched as he brought the walkie to his mouth and pushed the button, listening for any sign of possible interference. It was in fact very staticky. “They might just be having trouble getting through.” Ezekiel added. With the way things were, being on the run from the Skins, no one liked when a group member was out of reach. 

“Maggie?” Daryl spoke into the radio. “If you can hear this, I’ll meet you. You know where.” He finished. You scrunched your eyebrows in question. Daryl slid the radio in his coat pocket under his poncho. “Either way something is up. I’ll find them.”

You crossed your arms, trying to block the cold wind that suddenly picked up and you thought a moment. “If they were seen they won’t risk coming back here too soon and being followed.” You pieced together. Daryl quickly nodded in agreement. “I wanna go with you.” You told him.

“Nah.” Daryl immediately huffed. 

“I’m going with you. Safer together remember?” You reminded him of the last time he left you behind while Evan quickly stepped forward. 

“I mean, I’ll go.” He offered. Your growing frustration became apparent as you sighed and glared, wondering how many times you would have to prove yourself. 

Daryl stared at you, debating. “Things are different now.”

“I’m not going to spend the next nine months hiding away, that doesn’t work for anyone.” You spoke firmly, revealing your secret to the others. 

Evan’s eyes grew just a little. “Wait…” He trailed off, deciding to mind his own business in that moment. “Congratulations.” He mumbled, bringing his pair of binoculars back to his face.

Daryl uncomfortably bit at his bottom lip. “Okay, you’re right.” He nodded gently and placed his hand on the small of your back to guide you along with him.
