And it's just so beautiful to me how insistent Nirei is in making him realize that the first things that come to everyone's minds when they know him is how much of a good and kind soul he is. All this refusing to leave Sakura alone and fighting to protect him too, instead, demanding Sakura to share his burden with them because they care. I want to say FUCK all these Sakura haters. Y’all are so fucking annoying.. like okay she was annoying at first but to those who say she’s useless and doesn’t care about Naruto.. please open your eyes a little wider. I swear y’all only pick out parts where she was scolds him or bullies him but completely ignore all the other parts that she shows genuine care for him. And sure she may have been weak in the beginning but she shows so much development further in the series.

On Friday, when Sasuke receives a frigid phone call from Hatake Kakashi to set up a quick meeting, he’s a little more than stunned. He doesn’t make excuses that he’s busy. He doesn’t ask why.

He just courteously agrees because a small amount of his time is the least of what he can offer to the man who raised his daughter. In the end, he takes time from his lunch break to drive downtown. When he arrives at the coffee place, Kakashi is already waiting for him. This makes Sasuke squirm, because usually, he’s the one who always arrives before time during such affairs. He’s even more disturbed that Kakashi has taken the single, most un-discreet table located smack in the middle of the shop. But what really nails the ominous vibe is when he takes off his face-mask and appraises Sasuke with a frighteningly neutral expression as he takes a seat in front of him.

He finds it hard to reconcile this man with the smiling one he and Sakura had encountered at Obito’s birthday party just a few weeks ago.

Sasuke isn’t one for pleasantries, and he honestly doesn’t know how to greet normal people, least of all Sarada’s adoptive father, so he’s even more stumped about what to do. So he keeps his poker face on as well and waits, only to be startled when Kakashi throws a brown envelop on the table between them. There’s a restrained kind of aggresiveness in the gesture, and Sasuke immediately understands why his neutral expression looks so grim. There’s now an undercurrent of silent anger in Kakashi’s face as he observes Sasuke, who recognizes the envelop to be the one that contains pictures that his mother had commissioned a professional stalker to take.

He takes several unsteady breaths, fisting his hands at his sides, simultaneously feeling grateful that Sakura isn’t here and craving her steady presence at his side. He feels mortified, challenged, and charged as he shamefully peeks at Kakashi from underneath his lashes, not quite able to meet his eye. In the end, he doesn’t know what to say, and he honestly doesn’t want to defend his family (or himself) either way. He just feels a simmering sort of panic that he (and in turn Sakura) would be forbidden from meeting Sarada if today goes wrong.

Apparently, Kakashi doesn’t need his words. He takes a grim appraisal of Sasuke’s wilted countenance and says, “She’s my daughter and she’s already cried once because of you. If something like this happens again, I will have no choice but to take legal action.”

Sasuke fully understands and so he nods. He’d expect nothing else.

“You should thank Obito,” Kakashi advises him. “He’s the one who convinced me to give you another chance.” He delivers this line with a congenial tone, but it’s laced with an undercurrent of hard warning and Sasuke, instead of feeling threatened, just feels infinitely grateful that Sarada has such an amazing dad.

“This is your first and last chance, Sasuke,” says Kakashi, boring his uncannily steady gaze into Sasuke’s rigid form. Then he turns weirdly friendly and asks, “Would you like a coffee? It’s on me.”

And there’s nothing Sasuke can do but agree, sit through the 15 most awkwardly silent minutes of his life, and return to the office.
