Re-watching my favourite episode of Fantasy High Sophomore Year (Fearful Symmetry) and the vibes of this episode are just completely unmatched. (spoilers, obviously)

Ally is away and not only is there the stress of their character being missing, but all of the chaos energy they would normally channel for the group is just swirling around randomly hitting all of the other players.

"In case you haven't heard, we're in the midst of a global pandemic!" (it was the last episode livestreamed, a couple of days before lockdown.)

It starts with the characters experiencing stuff that directly contradicts what the players saw out of character last episode; good and off-putting.

It's the literal nightmare episode. 

And the characters did some drugs too. 

And they fully split the party. 

Everyone is on their drug addled nightmare adventures alone.

The absolute razor precision of Brennan's RP to fuck everyone up as much as possible emotionally.

Everyone being so visibly anxious when it is their turn.

The whole thing oscillates wildly between the most heart-wrenching and the funniest shit you have ever seen.

"I admit there might be something wrong with me." "I didn't want this I didn't want this one bit!" "Lets go down the line what's everyone afraid of?" "I'm not telling you secrets!"

"She can worry about herself later". "Give me a wisdom saving throw." "Well... the dice... wanna tell your story I got a six." "I'm getting roasted out here tonight." "We're scared Brennan!" "This is literally... I'm so tense right now."

"It's Gorgug keep going."

"Babian..." "The ship people didn't know they needed!" "I'm in the corner making out with Baby" "My true... greatest... fear!"

"But she has to fight as much as she can, because that's... it's scarier to keep fighting than it is to give up."

"I take comfort in seeing my friends there... making out... not in a weird way."

"Is my greatest fear... sleeping on the job? I'm so lame!" "Riz BRAVELY walks towards the bed and BRAVELY takes a nap."

The return of Baron, Hilda Hilda, the Sexy Rat and Chungledown Bim.

Lou's chair breaking and him stealing Ally's chair. "Don't tell them, nobody tell them and when they fall off we'll have a big laugh"

The only way for the characters to progress is to let their greatest fears happen.

Fig's whole nightmare/vision of Ayda, possibly the most raw D&D ever streamed. (For extra intensity, watch Emily the first time, then watch it a second time but just watch Murph watch Emily. It's good shit.)

It's the most "lets get weird" self-indulgent fanfiction tropes episode coupled with multiple out-of-game changed circumstances that give the whole thing such a different energy and I love it so so much. Go watch Fantasy High. It’s so good.
