I've been thinking abt a poly!tf141 with a fem!reader who like is from the country side AND I'M CRACKING, OH LAWD!!!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9033832cf77aa2b42b94faaacee2e242/3350ab2b44b28bb6-62/s540x810/3cfcf928193b1bda13db16fca583bf671b5a0e4e.jpg)
Task Force 141 had seen you kill a man from 700 meters away. They had seen you tear through enemy lines with the precision of a seasoned warrior, your movements deadly and efficient. But what they hadn't seen—what they couldn’t wrap their heads around—was the life you returned to after every mission.
Because while Ghost, Soap, Price, and Gaz spent their leave in safe houses, military bases, or the occasional urban apartment, you?
You went home.
To the countryside.
To your massive, luxurious farmhouse nestled in the hills of a quiet village, where the air smelled of fresh hay, wildflowers, and the occasional whiff of cow.
And when TF141 finally visited, they were not prepared.
The First Time They Saw the Farm : "What the fuck—" Ghost had been the first to say it when you pulled up to your estate in an old pickup truck, the gravel crunching beneath the tires as you parked in front of a sprawling wooden house with a red-tiled roof.
There were animals everywhere.
A massive black and white cow lazily chewed its cud near the wooden fence. Chickens and roosters strutted about like they owned the place. A gray donkey stared at them with judgmental eyes. Two ducks waddled past as if they were on a mission. Dogs barked excitedly at the sight of you, tails wagging. A cat lounged on the porch, stretching in the warm sun.
And then—a fucking horse trotted up to you, nuzzling into your palm like a puppy.
"Price," Gaz whispered. "She has a fucking farm."
"A fancy one at that," Soap muttered, still stunned.
"You lot gonna stand there all day?" You grinned, tossing your duffel bag over your shoulder. "Come on in. Dinner’s almost ready."
They were bewildered. They had spent years with you, fighting side by side, seeing you covered in blood, sweat, and gunpowder—and now you were leading them up the front porch of your cozy countryside mansion like a perfect little housewife.
And the worst part? They liked it.
You, The Deadly Soldier and The Perfect Housewife
Soap had expected you to relax on your leave. Maybe sleep in, drink some tea, read a book.
But no.
You were up at the crack of dawn, slipping out of bed before any of them could pull you back in, dressed in overalls and a white tank top, heading out to feed the animals like it was just another mission.
"Morning, sweetheart," Price murmured, leaning against the doorway as he watched you toss hay to the horses.
"Morning, Captain," you teased, kissing his scruffy cheek before moving on to collect eggs from the hens.
Ghost watched in silence, arms crossed, as you scolded a particularly feisty rooster. "You peck me one more time, and I swear to God, I’m making soup outta you."
Gaz almost choked on his coffee when you turned around and gave them the sweetest, most innocent smile.
"You boys want breakfast?"
Fifteen minutes later, they were sitting at a massive wooden table in your warm, sunlit kitchen, eating fresh farm eggs, homemade bread, and smoked bacon.
And Soap was ready to propose.
Domesticity With a Side of Chaos
Price: Loves sitting on the porch with a cigar, watching you work. He helps with repairs, fixes fences, and absolutely adores the peacefulness of your home.
Ghost: The animals are terrified of him at first (except the donkey—the donkey hates him). But the barn cats adopt him, curling up in his lap whenever he sits down.
Soap: Thinks farm life is the best thing ever. He learns how to milk a cow, names every single chicken, and gets way too attached to a piglet.
Gaz: "Babe, I love you, but this rooster is evil." (He got chased one too many times.)
And at night?
After a long day of farm work, you slip into something soft and lacy, curl up in their arms, and remind them that you’re not just a soldier, not just a farmer—you’re theirs.
They Never Want to Leave
By the end of their stay, not a single one of them wants to go back.
"You sure we have to leave?" Soap pouts, feeding the ducks.
"Darlin’," Price murmurs against your neck one night, arms wrapped around you in bed, "Ever thought about retirin’ here? With us?"
Ghost doesn’t say it out loud, but when he watches you laugh, your hands covered in flour as you bake bread, he knows he never wants to be anywhere else.
And Gaz?
He just sighs, watching the sunset over the hills. "I never thought I’d say this, but…I think I’m in love with farm life."
They were all in love. With you. With this. With the life they could have, if only they stayed.
Maybe one day.
For now, they’d enjoy every stolen moment in their countsyde paradise. But what if we make thing spicy ? A little bit, at least.
Ghost Was The First To Break
Ghost had held strong. Longer than the others.
While Soap got weak-kneed watching you bend over to pick up hay, and while Gaz couldn’t stop staring at your thighs in those tiny denim shorts, Ghost had kept his cool.
Until that damn sundress.
White. Light. Flowy. Just enough fabric to tempt, but never satisfy—clinging to your curves, slipping off your shoulders as you carried a bucket of water to the horses.
He had been cleaning his rifle on the porch, but his grip tightened the moment he saw the fabric sway with your every step.
And then?
You had the audacity to look over your shoulder and wink at him.
He dropped the rifle.
Soap Lost It In The Barn
Soap had always been shameless about his attraction to you.
But you?
You were even worse.
It was an accident—(was it?)—when you walked into the barn one night, looking for something. The others were inside, drinking whiskey in the house, but Soap had been alone, brushing down one of your horses.
And then he saw you.
Wet.
Covered in rain.
Your thin white blouse clung to you, completely see-through, nipples pebbled against the fabric.
"Lass," he had rasped, watching as you closed the barn door behind you, stepping forward, voice all honeyed and sweet.
"Johnny," you had purred, voice dripping with something that wasn’t innocence, "I’m cold."
He snapped.
The horse had seen things that night.
Price Was The Most Dangerous
Price was a man of control.
A man of restraint.
A man who knew how to bide his time.
But you?
You tested him.
You liked to push. You liked to see how far you could go before he gave in.
And God help you—you found his limit.
It was late. The others were asleep. You were making tea in the kitchen, standing on your tiptoes to reach a mug from the top shelf.
Price had walked in just as your nightgown slipped up your thighs.
It wasn’t fair.
The soft, white cotton. The little lace trim. The way your bare legs looked so smooth, so inviting—and the sleepy way you turned, so unaware of what you were doing to him.
You looked up at him, mug in hand, and smiled. "You want some tea, Cap?"
And then—his hands were on your hips.
Voice rough.
"You know damn well what I want, sweetheart."
Gaz Had It The Worst
Gaz?
Gaz was a goner the first time he saw you in nothing but boots and his shirt.
You had come in from the field soaked in sweat, hair messy, thighs speckled with dirt. You had tossed your muddy clothes into the laundry room, grabbed his green tactical shirt, and walked around the house like it wasn’t driving him insane.
"Babe," he groaned, rubbing a hand down his face, watching you stretch, the hem of his shirt riding up to dangerous levels.
You blinked. All innocent. "What’s wrong?"
Gaz was a patient man. A respectful man. A man who was about to lose his goddamn mind.
"Come here."
You smirked, walking over slowly, pressing your hands to his chest.
"You’re so easy to rile up," you giggled.
His hand wrapped around your throat.
"And you’re about to learn what happens when you push too far."

桜んぼ ܃ happy valentines day everyone 🎀 i hope yoi all received a lot of love today ><

HEESEUNG you wait for him to come home all night. well, not really all night— but he does come back home quite later than usual. you assume it’s because of work, you are used to him coming home to you a little more late than he usually does sometimes. you don’t mind it that much honestly, even if it’s a special day today. “baby! i’m home,” he voice rings from the door. as you always do, you get up to welcome him. but, you find yourself too stunned to speak— the man in front of you smiles widely with a teddy bear that is half of his height in his hands and a red, heart shaped box that, you assume, is filled with chocolate. “for my pretty valentine,” he tells you.
JAY the man knows how much you love valentine’s day and he knows how much you cherish his food. therefore, he decides to cook for you today. “go get ready, princess,” he orders gently while you watch him cook. “are you trying to get rid of me?” you tease, getting off the counter to go shower— he laughs, dragging you back to him by your wrist before planting a kiss on your forehead, “never.” he is already all ready, well dressed with a perfect hairstyle when you open the door to get out of the shower. he compliments before covering your eyes, walking you to the leaving room and when he lets you see again, your breath is taken away. there is a table full of food in the middle of the dark room, only enlightened with candles all over the place.
JAKE flowers always end up perishing, he knows that. he is aware that they don’t last very long, less than any other gifts he could give you. but he also knows that the gesture never does. he loves to see your face brighten when he gives a bouquet to you, he loves to see the smile growing wider on your lips the longer you look at it and he can’t stop thinking about the kisses you give him in lieu of a ‘thank you’. you are used to it, to receiving gorgeous bouquets from your lover— yet, you are always beyond happy it happens. and today, he decides to do something bigger. which is sending a dozen of bouquets, with different flowers arrangements each time, to your apartment while you wait for him to take you on a date.
SUNGHOON he loves you. it has never been a secret to anyone— especially not to himself. he finds something new to love about you everyday, from the way you talk to the way you are, from your beautiful features to your inside beauty and it’s flaws, there is nothing he doesn’t cherish. and he wants to tell you about it, all time. every day, every hour, every minute, every second, his love for you keeps on growing as well as the craving need of putting in words. he chooses to do it, to celebrate the love between you and him— through a long letter, where every single thing he loves about you is written down. “tomorrow, for sure, there will be ten more things that i discover about you and keep close in my heart. until it stops beating, even after.”
SUNOO “what is that supposed to be?” he laughs, rather loudly after taking a look at your hand crafted paper heart. today, as a romantic activity, your boyfriend decided to make you craft little hearts together to put them in the scrapbook of your relationship— however, he finds your hearts ugly and isn’t discreet about it. “okay, i’m not crafting anymore,” you pout slightly, putting your heart down and leaning on the couch behind you. he laughs even louder while taking a piece of red paper on the table with the scissors. “look,” he says, wrapping his arms around you while you cross yours under your chest and lean against his. “this is how you do it,” he tells you, cutting another heart in the red paper. “how is that any different from mine?”
JUNGWON you can feel him stare at you as you put the cream on the cookies you just got out of the oven. you only watch him from your peripheral vision, yet, you know from a glimpse of the look on his face to know that he is going to do something stupid. “you have something on your face,” he warns you with a smile in his voice. “what?” you say, forgetting the cookies and starting to wipe different places on your face— but you are sure there is nothing. “where?” you end up asking him. of course, your boyfriend boops your nose, making a small point of cream sit on your lips. and honestly you can’t really do anything but stay still and stare at him blankly while he says, rather happily, “let me help you.” then he leans in, delicately resting his lips on yours and giving you a dizzying kiss.
RIKI as it is his first valentine day— because, yes, he has only ever dated you and plans on keeping it like this forever— he wants it to he a unforgettable experience. he doesn’t decide to have a date night, he opts for a day full of you and him having little dates then and there. first, he takes you the a cute cafe he looked for and made sure was the most perfect ever, to take breakfast with you. he holds your hand while he takes you shopping, compliments you on your choices and look for pieces of clothing to match yours. he sits next to you in the restaurant while you both eat lunch, lets you take a bite of his dessert and he has a sip of your drink. how he holds your shopping bags during the whole day and especially when you play arcade games is lovely, he is even cuter when he wins plushies for you. it is a fun yet tiring day, which is why it ends in a movie night in matching pajamas.

⌗ valentines day with the sorcerer you love <3
ᯓ starring ─ jjk ensemble cast : gojo, geto, nanami, choso, sukuna, toji, ino, kashimo, hiromi
𝓶𝓾𝓵𝓽𝓲. ㅤ﹑ ( 呪術廻戦 ; x afab!reader ) ─── ❛ cw ⌓. sfw. wc ⌓. 2k. art, sea_Pall
﹙ 五条 悟 : gojo satoru ﹚ ─ probably the type to pretend that he's forgotten valentines day to mess with you, acting clueless all morning. but he's dropping the entire extravagant surprise later for sure, including a red rose bouquet that could pay a month of rent, all your favourite chocolates and fireworks ! pretends not to sniffle and tear up when you give him your own gift, because for all his bravado it means a lot to him that you love him just as much. he just wants to see you happy, and he puts serious effort into making valentines day special, even if he hides it behind jokes and teasing. got a custom-made gift, something like a charm bracelet with small jewels and charms that represent all your favourite things. also the type to do shit like buying you a star in your name, right next to his because he thinks the idea of cosmic soulmates is so romantic. late at night, when it's just the two of you, he drops the jokes and tells you, 'you're the best part of my life, y'know.' and he means that with all his heart.
﹙ 夏油 傑 : geto suguru ﹚ ─ complains about valentines day a bit, because he doesn't see what's so different about feb 14, but he still indulges it. if you're bad at giving gifts, he'll pretend to love whatever you give him, even if it's...awful. he prefers quality time over material gifts honestly, and he plans a quiet date where he can spend as much time as possible with you, over tea or expensive wine. but that's not to say that he doesn't put effort into a gift. it's definitely thoughtful and catered to your taste, and probably more sentimental instead of flashy (like chasing down your favourite author with rainbow dragon just to get an autograph on a copy of your favourite book). clasps your hands with his to kiss you, and tell you that he loves being with you because you give him peace.
﹙ 両面 宿儺 : ryomen sukuna ﹚ ─ "why would i celebrate a human holiday?" but when you woke up, there was a velvet box beside you on your pillow, and he acts like he has no idea how it got there ('oh, it was just uraume, it wasn't me' and then he goes and gets all upset when you go thank uraume instead). he doesn't get the idea of giving flowers either, because well, they all die in the end right? but he knows they make you happy, so he's still chasing after the prettiest bouquet he can find. he'll never admit it, but he's obsessively protective over you, so the fact that he's even acknowledging valentines day means that you're special to him. the type to haul around a box of a hundred doves so you can open it as a surprise, and watch as all these birds fly all over your apartment. late at night, when no-one's around, he traces circles on your wrist and tells you that he doesn't do love, but whatever this is, he doesn't want it to end.
﹙ 七海 建人 : nanami kento ﹚ ─ he tries to be serious about valentine's day, but gojo keeps texting him ridiculous gift ideas that keep fucking with his composure. if you surprise nanami with something romantic, he'll turn slightly pink and peachy, and say that 'this is unnecessary' but he won't stop smiling the rest of the day (#needthat). even though he's not a fan of big celebration, he wants you to feel appreciated. he probably goes down the classic route of a perfectly planned dinner, your favourite flowers, and a handwritten card -> the type of husband material where he attends one of those artsty card making/flower pressing classes just to make something for you with his own hands. when he pulls you close at the end of the night, he whispers to you that he doesn't need a special day to remind him of how much he loves you.
﹙ 伏黒 甚爾 : toji fushiguro ﹚ ─ he asked what you wanted for valentines day and you said that you wanted him oiled up in the dining table. and toji's the type to lowk take that seriously, because that's kinda cost effective for him too. but he does genuinely try to do something nice and heads over to a shopping centre of stores that are way out of his pay grade, and tries to bat his pretty, green eyes into some type of discount. the sales assistants don't argue with a man built like an mma fighter wandering around the jewellery section. even if the two of you don't go out, he wants you to feel safe and secure, and he'll keep an arm around you all day. after everything toji's been through, you're the one thing that makes him feel human again. "i didn't think i'd ever have this," he tells you, holding you against him.
﹙ 脹相 : choso kamo ﹚ ─ doesn't quite the holiday, and choso just wonders if it's some sort of human ritual that he's not quite grasping. tries way too hard to make it perfect, but it's all the more endearing. choso was convinced he could handle a homemade dinner, but he burnt it so bad that gordan ramsey would have a stroke. but he was determined to bullshit his way through it, "what do you mean, babe? this is how it's meant to taste." all said with a straight face, the gall! picks out flowers based on their meanings because he wants them to represent all the real love and feelings in his heart. he's such a pda type of guy, always clinging to you and intertwines your fingers with his as he leads you around. definitely sees you as the most precious thing in the world, and he just cannot believe he has someone as incredible as you <3
﹙ 猪野琢真 : ino takuma ﹚ ─ is determined to figure out valentines day himself, without getting advice from other people (like nanami) but in the end, he finds himself tweaking out and trying to plan the perfect day for you. accidentally bought something that was really cute, little and bejewelled because he thought it would look gorgeous on your neck. didn't realise until afterwards that he picked it up from the pet accessory tub, and desperately hopes you don't realise. he spends the whole day just wanting to make you laugh, because if you're happy, he's happy. even if he does mess something up, it's just endearingly sweet and he makes up for it with pure enthusiasm. he gets all soft and melty when you reciprocate his feelings, and he tells you that he knows he's not perfect, but you make him want to be better.
﹙ 鹿紫雲 : hajime kashimo ﹚ ─ he kind of has a reputation to keep up, and rolls his eyes at the mention of valentines day. but no-one knows that back in the day (aka, the edo period in the 1600s) he was actually into things like poetry and courtly love. unfortunately, he's also an adrenaline junkie and you regret showing him the movie 'twisters' because he truly thinks storm chasing is a fun and romantic activity. he goes out and buys you something that he knows you'll actually use, more practical sort of gifts. he actually tries to go and pick flowers for you himself, instead of buying them. tries to act smug and above it all, but gets all nervous and twitchy when you compliment him and gift him something in return. almost started sweating and getting a headache when you told him that you loved him because he realised that now he actually has to be equally open about his (equal) feelings. of course, you know that hajime does love you but you just think its funny watching him go nauseous and pale at the idea of emotional vulnerability. its good to let the cocky man sweat a bit, good for character building.
﹙日車寛見 : higuruma hiromi ﹚ ─ a classy man (want him) and he treats valentines day with plenty of elegance. he's definitely secured an expensive and well-thought out gifts like a rare book, perfume, or a beautiful fountain pen (or all three). he takes you out to a fancy jazz bar, where he treats you to the prettiest cocktails and kisses your hand softly. he's surprisingly affection behind closed doors, and purrs when you run your fingers through his dark hair. also goes pretty shy when you flirt with him and get ridiculously affection, like he's pulling on his tie and trying to hide the red flush on his neck. your valentines day with hiromi ends with you and him laughing over a glass of pricey wine. he thought he was so clever for writing you a little note like 'roses are red, violets are blue, if you ever get arrested, i'll be there for you :)'

@sleep-needer
Gladly, although are you sure? Cause it’s pretty dark.
TW: SA, incest (obviously)
To put it briefly, lonnie byers should die an agony-filled death and will (and jonathan) should spit on his grave.
There’s a lot going on with Lonnie, I’m just gonna leave you posts here to check out because they explain it better that I ever could.
X / X
@greenfiend has a lot about it on his acc.
Will is also pretty paralleled to Laura Palmer, from Twin Peaks. Laura who was SA by her dad.
And even without mentioning Lonnie there’s also everything going on with Will and SA (like the zombie boy nickname) and everything going on with AIDS (which is commonly “caught” by having sexual relationships). In fact, all of s2 can be seen as a SA metaphor (or a metaphor for what happens after SA)
There’s also casual mentions of incest through the show, like robin and steve watching back to future in s3, where “that mom was trying to bang her son” (quoting Robin). Talking about that, there’s also the theory of Will (with powers) flaying Hopper in s3 (so some scenes where Joyce was talking with him (while having a crush on him) she was actually talking with her son. Uh, yeah). Listen, I’m not super sold on this one, but I do have seen some damning evidence, and I just feel the need to share (you’ll draw your own conclusions).
BUT that’s not all!! We also have to take into account whatever it is that’s going on with Mike and El.
“Mike and El?”, you ask, “what do you mean?“
Oh boy.
Letting aside the “they’re related” theories (theories surrounding the wheelers being creels and henry being el’s “mom” (look into mothergate if you dare), which would make them cousins (“She’s my cousin. Second cousin.”) or smth), there’s also so many things going on with them and family. El is paralleled (and contrasted) to Nancy, Mike’s sister, Mike is paralleled to hopper (el’s dad), Brenner (“papa”), AND Jonathan (talking with Will) (a brother), there’s constant references to them being family like mike pretending she’s his cousin, or before their first kiss.
Before their first kiss Mike talks about El living on his house, his mom cooking her food, and how his parents “will be like your new parents, and Nancy, she’ll be like your new sister”. Oh okay. So she’ll become a member of the family then? Alright… To this, el (reasonably) asks “will you be like my brother?”
Mike also kisses her while she’s wearing Nancy’s old dress, and the first thing he says after the kiss is “Nancy” (because he notices the car lights outside, meaning she arrived). Yeah I’m not, I’m not gonna add anything else.
“Oh but the duffers wouldn’t go there”, except they totally would. They love to make things not be as they seem and reverting tropes, plus Mike loves Star Wars. The duffers love references to other media, specially classics (like lotr, the never ending story, wizard of oz, Alice in wonderland, etc). Star Wars is a classic of sci-fi and fantasy, super popular with 80s nerds. C’mon, you think they aren’t going to reference it? In Star Wars, Luke and leia kiss, on the lips, before they realized they’re biological twins (separated at birth). Then luke ends up single and independent and leia ends up with Han Solo. Huh.
Want to look more into it, search lukeandleiagate on my blog. For example, x / x / x / x
(That’s not even getting into everything surrounding Henry, which is another rabbit hole that tbh I don’t know much about)
Yeah and uh, leaving this here for you to rewatch, after having learnt all that.
youtube
i bring a real "this piece of media has incest subtext that you're ignoring" vibe to the function that nobody really likes

╭₊˚ ๑︰❝ twst dorms with their ever after high counter parts! ❞
pairings all dorms, but seperate! x fem reader, reader is not yuu (mc). can be read as either platonic or romantic
cw none.. as far as i know
a/n — YAYYY happy valentinesssss <3 not exactly counter parts, but characters who i think would fit into their dorms!
HEARTSLABYUL — ( madeline hatter, daughter of the mad hatter! reader )
riddle finds you somewhat charming, in your own way, but that doesn't mean he doesn't get ticked off by you sometimes. that being said, he definitely loves having tea parties with you, it's so much more fun!
definitely a little bit chaotic, oh, but what can one expect from the daughter of the mad hatter? thinks it's a little bit silly that you have a teacup as a hat, but it definitely works for someone like you.
i think he'd get along with your pet dorm mouse, finds it quite cute from how it delightfully serves the both of you tea whilst you pat it's head with your index finger as a token of appreciation <3
trey would also love having you around for tea. for him-- someone like you in heartslabyul is like a refreshing breath of air. a little bit out of hand, but he still adores having you around.
baking with you is the best! trey just smiles sheepishly when you bring out ingredients out from your silly little hat, ingredients you didn't even know you needed-- but stuffed it in just in case.
a little bit ridiculed from how you can say such smart things, but then saying “but mmm, i dunno!” right after, when his mind is practically in shambles from what you just said.
cater!!!!! you'd get along with him so much compared to the other boys, just because he thinks you're so silly and so adorable! you definitely pop up in his magicam posts most of the time <3
maybe he will admit a bit he spends time with you and takes his daily clicks for social media, but he does genuinely enjoy spending time with you! you could yap on for hours on end and he'd just be sitting there happily listening to you.
i fear you'd pick up his speech habits as well.. just out of spite and out of pure fun, and he loovess it. thinks you're the cutest and most favorite thing in the world when you imitate him like that!
ace is definitely something. he'd enjoy getting reactions out of you-- but at the same time, your reactions are so unpredictable that sometimes he'd rather not.. he definitely found you weird the first time you met, but he's slowly warming up!
feels so proud of himself once you start clapping and giggling when he shows you his card tricks, you're the first one he'd show his tricks to right before he decides to play 'em onto deuce <3
makes his heart flutter just a bit (his words, not mine). when he sees you cheer for him the loudest whenever he has his basketball matches, he'll definitely give his 100% in the match now!
deuce looks up to you.. in a way. he just loves how you're so optimistic about everything and he adores you! both romantically and generally.
lots of “how do you do that?” from him whenever you pull out random stuff out of your hat, and you just respond with a giggle while bringing out stuff he's lost for literal ages. stuff he thought ace stole, by the way.
deuce just loves the way you're so different from everyone he's met, the way you happily jump up and down when you find out you passed with flying colors on a test, the way you you get along so well with everyone, basically everything about you.
SAVANACLAW — ( cerise hood, daughter of the big bad wolf! reader )
leona.. to be honest, i don't think your first meeting went that well. but to be fair, he does respect you for being so tough, as you should be. maybe the fault was more on your side, but you were just being cautious.
it's a little bit awkward with him the first time, but i think you both would develop a mutual respect for each other over the time being. i personally think you two would try to out-sass each other from time to time, but that's just me.
you still find him a little bit too cocky and lazy for your liking, but you'll get used to it in some time. but it was nice seeing him defend you from pretty sexist students, and then just brushing it off like it's nothing.
ruggie, it's like a game of cat and mouse with him.. get the joke? sorry.. no pun intended. he'd want to, or at least attempt to charm or out-wit you in some way, immediately realizing you're someone who has a no-nonsense attitude.
you two respect each other to a good enough amount though, once you get closer. yes, another one who's just as competitive as his housewarden when it comes to challenges. you're a lot more alike than one might think.
sarcastic x "i'll kill you", don't let him get under your skin, he's just there to berate you in a loving way, i swear! he's just trying to get you to open up, is all <3
jack is also, another no-nonsense person, just like you! yes, you we're cautious at first, but you warmed up to him faster than the others. he's respectful and well-mannered, what's not to like about the guy?
not that much of a flashy friendship, but you two understand each other just fine. even if it's just a nod, he'll know immediately what you meant by that little gesture. probably bonded by shared determination.
your number 1 defender besides leona himself, he's quick-witted enough to notice even when someone's belittling or even underestimating you in the slightest ways, he'll jump right in to defend you, just like what he does with anyone else.

OCTAVINELLE — ( meeshell mermaid, daughter of the little mermaid! reader. )
azul, it's better to be cautious of him at first. he's a smooth talker and he's smart, and you're more of a dreamer, so that doesn't work out that well. so, naturally, he sees you as a business opportunity. you could see right through him.
to be fair.. you were, in fact a little bit swayed with his smooth talking the first time you met, but then shook your head and snapped back into reality once you realize with a dead-panned look plastered on your face.
but i guess, in some ways, you two both work. especially when azul's being vulnerable, you'd push all the tension between the both of you aside and be right there with him. thus— he swears to hold off all of his schemes. for you, at least.
jade's is a little bit of a slow-burn, i fear you'd be a bit off-put by his calm nature at first, getting a gut feeling that somethings wrong. you would've been able to admit that anyway. at least not to his face.
he just loves teasing you as well, finding all your reactions adorable and from the way you hide yourself when you're embarrassed, but he finds your emotional awareness refreshing for a feeling. i mean.. who won't? just look at his dormmates.
i think he just means well.. overtime, he teaches you to be more aware of the people around you. honorable mention to azul.. who definitely didn't try to just get you into a pyramid scheme upon first meeting you, so you're thankful to jade.
floyd, you better run. you're an easy target. small, cute, gets flustered easily, what else could he want in a new little plaything? i mean that affectionately. whilst the other tries their best to stop him, he's just.. "imma do what i want to her and no one can stop me".
although you're likely on edge whenever the eel is around, you do, sometimes, unfortunately, like his company. it's quite a nice contrast to your calm and collected one, being the literal opposite of your character. you really do appreciate how much fun he brings into your life, and he appreciates you practically for being in his life.
you're naïve and easy to tease, but he soon learns not to push you away too much, since, well, he doesn't want to admit it, but he's starting to like your company and slowly but surely is getting attached to you as a whole.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/80ddbc946d875850882095d45804ee9b/85fbd89d122bd401-d3/s540x810/f0a3891178f2582e78b310faa0b8e9061ef098cf.jpg)
SCARABIA — ( apple white, daughter of snow white! reader. )
kalim, okay, hear me out, daughter of apple white, just please try to understand my vision here. you were a little bit startled when you met him, but he was cute.. you're used to being more of a well-mannered and dignified person, so it was definitely new, but in a good way!
he'd find you admirable, of course. like many others here, he just loves how you're so polite but can set boundaries at the same exact time. you're just.. the definition of perfection to kalim in his eyes. but he does want you to just let go and have some fun sometimes.
you help jamil with helping kalim stay on the ground sometimes when things get out of hand, and they're both grateful for that. he does, still think you should loosen up a little and have some fun with him out of love <3 you just think he's a little sweetheart, in all honesty.
jamil, on the other hand, i think there was a little bit of tension when you two first met. you admire how he's quite reserved yet still respectful to those around him, even though his face literally says otherwise. but in the end, you just learn to laugh it off with your dear kalim.
even though you both may or may not get into small debates sometimes, i'd say you get along well, especially in terms of respect. even tho he does think it's quite cute about how you daydream about little things, he'd pull you right back into the ground out of love.
you two share duties in the dorm, even though he insists that it's fine and he doesn't need help, but you insist even more and saying that two people are better than one when it comes to things like this, and he truly, really appreciates everything you've done for their dorm.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/80ddbc946d875850882095d45804ee9b/85fbd89d122bd401-d3/s540x810/f0a3891178f2582e78b310faa0b8e9061ef098cf.jpg)
POMEFIORE — ( raven queen, daughter of the evil queen! reader. )
vil really does admire your beauty in a little bit of a detached way. while you two can butt heads about your opinions sometimes, he still appreciates you for setting a new point of view into his life. if you let him pamper you in return, for a price!
you're someone who doesn't want to fit into standards, and vil is well, all about the standards. definitely gave each other bit of a dirty look when you first met, but it only goes up from there! at least i could only hope so.
the others think your bickering is quite silly, but it's really all in good fun. you help each other grow in your own ways, and it's actually really cute. he's content enough with how you are, so he would prefer not to change anything about you so far. keep it like that! or not.
rook and his love for your personality is really something. your playful little banters and small signs of flirtation go by quite easily to your surprise! he's a little bit overwhelming for your tastes sometimes, but it'll be all good.
to put it straight, rook was immediately captivated by you. a bit uncomfortable from the way he eyes you up and down, or as some people like to put it— examine you. but you two do bond over the little stuff, like rook with his archery and you with your dragon riding!
the type of person who'd see right through you, someone who'd squish your face with his hands to make you face up at him when he notices your gaze trail off to the side, asking you if you're okay with that soft smile on his face as he pinches your cheek.
epel, is an admirer of you! admire is a stretch, but it's not even close to how much he loves you. he wants to be just like you! strong and intimidating, but in your own sense. and yet still polite enough to teach him and calm him down about topics like this and brush it off saying it's nothing.
whilst he does practically worship you at this point, your relationship with epel is still, really, very playful. your humor's a bit dry, so whenever he teases, or rather attempts to tease you, you'd make fun of him for wanting to be manly, and being not manly enough.
"so.. are 'ya always this serious? can i get a smile outta 'ya?" is something he'd usually ask upon first meeting you, not even bothering to hide his accent because he can already tell you can see right through him. whilst you respond with a small smile, "if you want me to smile, you gotta earn it."
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/80ddbc946d875850882095d45804ee9b/85fbd89d122bd401-d3/s540x810/f0a3891178f2582e78b310faa0b8e9061ef098cf.jpg)
IGNIHYDE — ( blondie lockes, daughter of goldilocks! reader. )
idia would be somewhat overwhelmed by you, you're so.. energetic, pretty, bright, bubbly— anything positive he can think of. you really try your best to interact with him more, even if it means talking to a screen, which isn't really the type of communication of your choice.
you do admit, you never really notice the way you unintentionally tease idia for his habits, he knows you mean well, especially when you nag him affectionately about going out when he'd rather ramble about technology with you in the dorm rooms.
he really finds it cute when you ask him about random stuff with the topic of technology. it's adorable when you ask him to teach you coding since you want to make your own game— wanting to tell you it's not all that fun, but who could resist that face of yours, really?
ortho really finds you fun to be around. you'd find ortho extremely cute when you first meet him, almost immediately approaching him— but not even asking him about his robotic nature even though you are asking tons of questions, and this makes him feel really special <3
he'd help you with anything without even needing you to ask, assisting you with absolutely anything you need with a smile on his face. you're literally another sibling figure to him and he loves it so much! when you ask him if he can feel what you're feeling and he technically says yes, you immediately say "then can you feel my excitement of getting a snack right now?!"
your hobby being vlogging means your camera being broken sometimes, but worry not! ortho is here to help! and he swears it'll be better than before. you're always so positive that it's contagious to him! he gets motivated just because of you :)

DIASOMNIA — ( briar beauty, daughter of aurora! reader. )
malleus? pshh. you weren't even intimidated by him in the slightest bit. not from his status, at least. you weren't overwhelmed and quite literally just approached him respectfully out of curiosity. and he waaaass waiting for you to approach him, so it's a win-win in this case!
"so you're a prince, huh? i don't mind a bit of drama every now and then." he hears you say with a smile on your face, while he asks if you're not afraid of his presence when you just brush it off, saying you don't really have time to be afraid of people like him when he's generally really nice.
it's just so refreshing seeing you skip the formalities saying, "if we're gonna be together all the time, let's just skip them!" with a cheer. you're literally a royal, but you seem so different from your background, it makes him quite happy.. oh, and he's quite protective over you. he insists on coming with you every time you're going somewhere alone.
lilia would find this interesting. you'd often tease him for being a literal century old fae as he just brushes it off with a small chuckle. whilst he claps back with reminding you you'd go to sleep for hundreds of years, making you pout.
you're sharp enough to see through his little pranks, earning him a smack on the head from you, when he says you're no fun at all, you respond with he'll have to try harder next time around. like malleus, he's also, definitely, protective of you.
he says he's not babying you but he is, and it's painfully obvious from the way you can sense his presence around when you're alone out walking. he just wants you to stay safe in his own way, let him do his thing!
silver, woah, you two have a lot in common. especially with the sleeping thing and kinda— coming from the same origins. but he finds your presence comforting, it's a new thing with him! just be careful <3
you often poke him about being too quiet, teasing him about quote unquote "sleeping with his eyes opened", making him laugh softly while he tells you that he isn't sleeping, just observing. observing you, in a subtle way.. but he prefers not to admit it. at least not now?
literally everyone in diasomnia is protective when it comes to you. you're like.. the most protected person in the history of night raven college. silver would hold your hand to prevent you from wandering off into the woods alone, saying it's dangerous for a beauty like you, playfully referencing your last name.
sebek is, well... something! you have a push and pull relationship with him, and it's cute in it's own way. he's intense and he's a no-nonsense type of person! so.. you were probably more intimidated by him than you were with malleus.
you'd often mock his ways of speech, saying stuff like; "i must uphold the honor of the great malleus draconia!” with a hand on your heart, giggling playfully as he scowls at you in a lovingly way, trust me on this. he does find it cute when you imitate him, though..
yes, once again, protective. saying you shouldn't be going messing around so light-heartedly, adding that you shouldn't be so reckless whilst being the princess of briar valley, just like malleus, whilst you whine and say that you don't just want to wait for a prince to save you like that.

Be my valentine!
Summary: It's valentines day! How do the TWST boys celebrate with you?
Characters: Everyone (-Ortho)
A/N: Happy valentines! I love you (platonically)
Riddle Rosehearts:
It’s safe to say that this is uncharted territory for Riddle. He’s never celebrated Valentine’s day for obvious reasons. He never even heard about it until he came to NRC. And he never had a reason to celebrate until he got with you. He instantly does a lot of research about how to celebrate Valentine’s day and also asks for advice from his dormmates. He ends up getting ten boxes of chocolates (everyone suggested different brands), a teddy bear, and a bouquet of roses. He ends up in front of your dorm and asks you to be his valentine. He makes sure to set up a romantic dinner in the rose maze for you both.
Trey Clover:
Trey has heard about valentine’s and has had some experience with it. Mostly from couples ordering from his family’s bakery during valentines. So Trey has some idea of how to celebrate with you. He bakes your favorite dessert and gets the prettiest bouquet of flowers he can find. He shows up in front of your dorm and asks you to be his valentine. He gets permission from the headmage to leave campus and takes you out on a nice dinner date. And then he takes you anywhere else you want to go on Sage’s island and gets anything you want (if he can afford it).
Cater Diamond:
Cater is an expert at Valentine’s. He hasn’t celebrated outside of exchanging Valentine’s in school, but he’s seen a lot of Valentine's posts on social media and knows the perfect way to celebrate. He gets you a box of chocolates, a cute little teddy bear, and a bouquet of flowers. He also writes a love letter to you with little doodled hearts and flowers along the edge of the paper. He asks you to be his valentine and also asks if you want to make chocolate strawberries with him. You two end up making and then eating chocolate strawberries and Cater only makes five posts about it.
Deuce Spade:
Deuce also isn’t that experienced when it comes to Valentine’s (or romance at all). He ends up calling his mom and asking her for advice which she gladly gives. He takes notes about valentine’s. His mom listed a lot of different candies to give your partner on Valentine’s, so he gets a cute, pink basket and fills it with an assortment of candy and a stuffed animal. He goes to your dorm, gives you the basket and asks you to be his valentine. He then gets permission to go off campus and takes you to the beach for a picnic.
Ace Trappola:
Ace has given a couple of valentine’s to cute girls and guys. However, he’s not used to getting them for someone he’s serious about. Can he just go with a classic box of chocolates? His brother gives him advice because he assumes Ace won’t know what to do. And yes, a box of chocolates is fine. He gets the biggest box Sam has along with a stuffed bear holding a heart. He gives them to you and asks you to be his valentine. If you say yes, he does expect to get a valentine gift from you.
Leona Kingscholar:
Leona isn’t experienced in romance or valentines, mainly because he never cared. He gives Ruggie some money and tells him to get a box of chocolates and a stuffed lion. When Ruggie gives him what he ordered him to get, he texts you to come over because he has a surprise. When you show up, he gives you the chocolate and lion and tells you that he chose you as his valentine. And being his valentine means playing a game of chess and then laying in bed for the rest of the day.
Ruggie Bucchi:
He’s always been too busy to think about valentines, and he’s never had the money to buy any valentines. He ends up working extra to get enough money to buy a stuffed hyena. And then he makes you chocolate covered strawberries. He asks you to be his valentine while giving you the two gifts. He cooks a meal for the two of you to share (he takes a couple sneaky bites of your food when you’re not looking).
Jack Howl:
Jack isn’t really experienced with romance unless you count seeing one (1) rom-com so he’s not experienced with valentines. He ends up asking his mom for help and doing what she says. He gets you a stuffed wolf, a box of chocolates and a bouquet of flowers. He shows up at your dorm and offers the wolf, chocolates, flowers and one of his jackets. He says the jacket is so his scent rubs off on you and because he thinks you’ll look cute in it. He then makes dinner for both of you and lays it out in the fanciest way he can.
Azul Ashengrotto:
Azul, while not experienced with valentines, knows just what to do. He, of course, goes with the basic box of chocolates and stuffed animal (an octopus). He also makes sure to set up a reserved seat in the Mostro lounge that’s set-up fancier than the other. He goes to your dorm, gives you the gifts, and then asks you to dinner. He takes you back to the Mostro lounge and leads you to the fancier table. You two order your food and enjoy a nice dinner. The only downside was that Jade insisted he get paid despite Azul owning the restaurant.
Jade Leech:
He knows what to do. He knows exactly how to celebrate. He shows up in front of your dorm… in hiking gear. That’s right, he’s taking you on a hike for valentine’s day. A romantic hike. On the hike, he gathers different mushrooms and asks you what you think of them. He makes sure to remember which ones you like the most. If you get tired, he’ll pick you up and carry you with him and once you finish the hike, he’ll drop you off at your dorm with a kiss to the back of your hand. And the next morning, you find a terrarium in front of your dorm with some of the mushrooms Jade collected on the hike.
Floyd Leech:
Floyd has 0 valentines knowledge because nobody wants to know how he celebrates it. Except for you apparently. Floyd gets you a BIG stuffed eel, almost as tall as him and cakepops that he made. He gives them to you, telling you that you’re his valentine. You don’t get a choice. He then drags you around campus, doing whatever he finds fun. And at the end of the day he takes you back to his dorm room and falls asleep with you in his arms.
Kalim Al-Asim:
While not having any experience with valentine's day, Kalim knows just how to celebrate. He buys the best quality chocolate and the biggest, fluffiest stuffed bear. He takes it to you and wishes you a happy valentines day. He then has Jamil set up dinner for you two. Afterwards, he takes you on a magic carpet ride through the skies (Ends up singing “A whole new world”). Eventually during the flight, he tells you to look down, and when you do you see a huge heart that he drew earlier in the day just for you. And then he asks you to sleepover in his dorm.
Jamil Viper:
Jamil has always been too busy to care about valentines. He does, of course, know that classic gifts. Chocolates, stuffed animals, flowers, the works. And he gets them for you. A nice box of chocolates, a stuffed snake and a bouquet of flowers. He gives them to you and asks you to be his valentine. And then he makes your favorite meal and sets up a nice candle-lit dinner.(And Kalim did his best not to cause trouble so that you could enjoy the dinner.)
Vil Schoenheit:
Vil’s more used to receiving valentines gifts than giving them. You’ll be the first person to get valentines gifts from him (his fans are jealous). He gets you (low-fat) chocolates, flowers, a basket of the finest skin-care products and a love letter. He asks you to be his valentine. He takes you to a spa, then dinner and then invites you back to his dorm so that he can fall asleep with you.
Rook Hunt:
Rook’s experience with valentines was just seeing it in different forms of media and finding it beautiful. He knew the moment valentines came around that he had to get you the perfect gifts. He writes an insane amount of poems about your beauty and recites them to you throughout the day. He also gets a box of chocolates and flowers. He gives you the chocolates, flowers and all the poems. He takes you to dinner and lets you have as much food as you want. He can afford it so he will.
Epel Felmier:
Epel doesn’t have any experience with valentines. Unless you count him beating up one of his classmates in third grade on valentines day. He’s heard his parents and grandparents talking about it and kind of knows how to celebrate. He makes caramel apples and gets a stuffed animal. He gifts them to you and asks you to be his valentine. He sets up a nice candle-lit dinner and makes the food all by himself.
Idia Shroud:
He obviously has no experience with valentines. Any experience comes from Valentine's events in games. He gets really nervous when valentines comes around because he doesn’t know what to do. Ortho starts listing different things that people do for valentines to give Idia ideas. He orders a big box of chocolates and a stuffed animal to your dorm along with a note he wrote for you. In the note, he asks you to come to his room. The two of you play video games and watch anime the rest of the day.
Malleus Draconia:
Malleus didn’t even know about valentines until Lilia told him about it. He does research about it and what to get for you. He gets you the best chocolates, a stuffed dragon, and a big bouquet of roses. He goes to your dorm and asks you to be his valentine while getting on one knee and offering the gifts to you. He takes you around NRC to look at gargoyles and then takes you back to his dorm. He makes dinner for both of you and afterwards, he takes you to his room to go to sleep.
Lilia Vanrouge:
Lilia doesn’t have experience, but he did a lot of research. The moment he heard about valentines day, it became his favorite holiday. He makes sure to get everything the internet tells him to. Chocolates, stuffed bat, and flowers. He also thought about making cake pops but Silver told him that you didn’t like cake pops so you didn’t have to deal with that. Lilia jumpscares you with the gifts and asks you to be his valentine. He takes you to his room to play video games and once night falls, he takes you for a walk around sage’s island (he didn’t get permission. He doesn’t care). And then he takes you back to his room to sleep.
Silver Vanrouge:
Silver only really grew up with Sebek, so it’s safe to say that he has no experience. However, he’s heard some talk around NRC and has the basics down. So he goes to Sam’s shop and gets some chocolates, a stuffed animal and flowers. He goes to your dorm to ask you to be his valentine and you find him passed out in front of your door with the gifts. He wakes up and asks you to be his valentine. He then takes you for a nice stroll through nature and leads you to a picnic. Only a few minutes later, he ends up sleeping in your lap with forest creatures surrounding you.
Sebek Zigvolt:
He’s above human traditions. Not anymore though. Sebek hears a passing conversation about valentines day and thinks it’s some stupid human holiday. And then you bring it up and tell what it’s about. And now, it doesn’t seem that stupid. He ends up at your dorm with chocolates, a stuffed crocodile, and flowers. No, these aren’t for valentines. They’re just gifts. He takes you on a walk around campus and then back to his dorm where he cooks a nice meal. And afterwards, he takes you to his room to sleep.
Chenya:
Chenya knows about it but never felt the need to participate. He never had a reason to, until now. So he buys your favorite candy, a stuffed cat, and flowers. He sneaks into your dorm and puts them on the couch in the common room and then scares the life out of you. He takes you to RSA and shows you all around campus and introduces you to his dormmates. And then he offers to let you stay over so he can keep you warm for the night.
Neige Leblanche:
He’s gotten a lot of valentines from his fans and has given valentines to his friends. But he’s never had a romantic partner to celebrate with, he’s excited. He gets you the best chocolates, the fluffiest stuffed animal, and the biggest bouquet of flowers. He shows up in front of your dorm and starts signing a love song for you. He gives you the gifts and asks you to be his valentine. He then takes you to do whatever you want to do and also shows you around RSA. He takes you to meet his friends and then walks you back to NRC and kisses the back of your hand before making his back to RSA.

Definitely think if you and your best friend broke up (and I mean really break up) Toji Fushiguro is the last person you need to be around to help you though it.
Of course, he’s a good spouse. Comforting you, kissing all over your face, cuddling your whimpering body, reminding you how you were not only such a good friend but an overall good person. And then, when the last tear is shed—
He’s telling you to expeditiously, go beat her ass.
Toji, the man who barely remembers the girl or most of your friends, suddenly has the memory of an elephant.
Describing almost each an every bad or terrible incident like he was there while they took place. She left you to pay a $500 bill alone? He’s bringing it up. How she was constantly late to your ‘catch up’ dinners & lunches? Her getting you a gift she wanted for herself on your birthday? He’s bringing it up. How she ditched you to go fuck some guy who wasn’t even fine and had terrible dick— he’s bringing it up like he’s at a board meeting with a 30 slide presentation.
If you were to ask him not even 2 days ago about your ex best friend, the man would shrugged and said, ‘she’s alright if you like ‘er’. As of right now— the man hated her guts.
Toji loved playing the devil on your shoulder, egging you on because he knew you could fight. Another story for another day. He so desperately wanted to see it again because you always looked so fucking good angry. If worst came to worst, he’ll bail you out of jail or put money on your commissary.
“What do they say doll? ‘You gotta get your lick back.’”
Toji’s even worse if the both of you were drunk.
He’s a snickering mess, arm over your shoulder and whispering in your ear as you both spotted her in the club.
“You gonna let her win without you baby?”
“You look ten times better than her mama.”
“Look at how she keeps lookin over here, she needs to learn a lesson doesn’t she, Doll?”
Question is, did you deck her?
According to the now closed police report, missing video footage, and three paid off witnesses: you weren’t there that night.
But if you were to ask Shiu, who helped you cover the mess up, he very vividly remembered your fist connecting with your ex best friends eye and it bulging out like a cartoon. Toji pulling the other man back so he wouldn’t intervene. Your boyfriend’s green eyes glistening, almost moaning, as he witnessed you in your absolute glory, your foot going right to her chin.
“Thaaaaats my girl!”
That bastard.
At least the night ended with you being praised like a queen, fucking you in the back of the parking lot because you looked so pretty giving your ex best friend a well deserved knuckle sandwich.
a/n: mind you this is canon. Idc.

the bet | sirius black
pairing: sirius black x reader
summary: james bets sirius can't make you fall in love with him and now sirius is all over you.
masterlist
It started, like most ridiculous things in Sirius Black’s life, because of James Potter.
The Gryffindor common room was loud that evening, filled with students playing Wizard’s Chess, finishing last-minute essays, or just causing trouble. Sirius lounged on the couch, legs stretched over the armrest, twirling his wand between his fingers as he half-listened to James and Peter argue about Quidditch formations.
And then you laughed.
Not at him—though that wouldn’t have been surprising—but across the room, sitting with Marlene and Lily, head thrown back, eyes sparkling with mischief. Sirius had heard you laugh plenty of times, but for some reason, this one caught his attention. Maybe it was because of how easily you laughed, how effortlessly you filled the space around you with warmth and energy.
James, ever perceptive (and ever annoying), caught the way Sirius was looking at you and smirked.
“Mate,” he said, nudging Sirius’s boot off the couch. “You’re staring.”
Sirius rolled his eyes and sat up properly. “Please. I don’t stare—people hope I’ll stare.”
Peter snorted. “Yeah, alright.”
James leaned back in his chair, a knowing glint in his eyes. “You know,” he mused, “I don’t think Y/n ever actually fallen for your charms.”
Sirius scoffed, placing a hand on his chest like he’d just been gravely insulted. “Excuse me?”
“I mean, she flirts with you,” James continued, as if this wasn’t a direct attack on Sirius’s entire identity, “but she flirts with everyone. She’s probably the only girl at Hogwarts who hasn’t fallen for your act.”
Sirius narrowed his eyes, turning his attention back to you. You were a flirt—always had been. And you were good at it too, quick-witted and confident, never the type to get flustered. He’d flirted with you plenty of times, and you always matched him, grin for grin, quip for quip. But James was right—you never blushed, never got nervous, never gave him that look most girls did when he turned on the charm.
It was… interesting.
And Sirius Black loved a challenge.
“You’re saying,” Sirius said slowly, “that if I actually tried, she wouldn’t fall for me?”
James grinned. “I’m saying you can’t do it.”
Remus, who had been reading by the fire (and wisely staying out of this nonsense), sighed. “Here we go.”
Peter perked up. “Ooh, is this a bet?”
Sirius smirked. “It is now.”
James sat up straighter, eyes gleaming. “Alright then, Black. Let’s make it official. I bet you—” he paused for effect, “—ten Galleons that you can’t make her fall for you.”
Sirius raised a brow. “Ten? That’s all?”
James laughed. “Alright, big shot, fifteen.”
“Twenty.”
“You want to lose money that badly?”
Sirius leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, expression downright smug. “Oh, I never lose.”
Remus groaned. “This is a terrible idea.”
James ignored him. “Alright, fine. Twenty Galleons says she will never fall for you.”
Sirius held out a hand. James shook it. The deal was made.
Peter clapped his hands together. “Ooooh, this is gonna be fun.”
Remus muttered, “This is going to end in disaster.”
Sirius leaned back, stretching lazily, confidence radiating off him. “Just you lot wait. By the end of the month, she will be smitten.”
“Sure, mate,” James said, shaking his head. “Sure.”
Across the room, you turned slightly, catching Sirius’s gaze. Your eyes met his, and instead of looking away, you held his stare, tilting your head slightly as if daring him to make a move.
And just to be infuriating, you gave him a wink.
Sirius grinned.
This was going to be fun.
The game begins
Sirius Black was a man on a mission.
The very next morning, he strolled into the Great Hall like he owned the place—not an uncommon occurrence. But today, his target wasn’t just looking devastatingly handsome or stealing toast off James’s plate. No, today was about you.
You were sitting with Marlene and Lily, sipping your coffee and looking far too amused for someone who had barely started the day. The moment Sirius approached, Marlene smirked knowingly.
“Uh-oh,” she muttered. “Brace yourself.”
You looked up just as Sirius slid into the seat beside you, his signature smirk firmly in place. “Morning, love,” he drawled, reaching out and plucking a piece of bacon from your plate.
You raised an eyebrow but let him take it. “Flirting before I’ve had my coffee? Bold move, Black.”
Sirius grinned. “I figured I should start early. Give you the whole day to think about how devastatingly charming I am.”
You took a slow sip of coffee, holding eye contact. Then, deadpan: “Who are you again?”
Marlene cackled.
Lily snorted into her pumpkin juice.
But Sirius? He only grinned wider. “Ah, playing hard to get, are we? Don’t worry, love. I love a challenge.”
You tilted your head, smirking. “Do you, now?”
Sirius leaned in ever so slightly. “Mmm. And something tells me you do too.”
You pretended to consider this. “That’s true. But here’s the thing—I’m very good at it.”
Sirius chuckled. Oh, this is going to be interesting.
Since then, it was suspicious how often Sirius Black seemed to run into you that week.
He was always around, flirting, teasing, and honestly just trying to get your attention somehow. It was becoming a very odd habit to be around him that much.
It's been a few days now, and it seemed Sirius wasn't going to back down on whatever the plan he had in his head.
Try harder.
The Hogwarts library was your sanctuary. A place of peace, quiet, and most importantly, a place without distractions. Better saying, a place without Sirius Black.
At least, that was the idea.
Because of course, when you were finally alone, enjoying the rare bliss of uninterrupted reading, a shadow loomed over your book, and with it, his voice.
“Fancy seeing you here.”
You sighed without looking up. “This is a library, Sirius. People come here to study.”
Sirius Black had a very particular way of invading one’s personal space. Instead of just standing in front of your table like a normal person, he leaned forward, resting his elbows against the wood, close enough that you could feel the warmth of him.
“Yes, well,” he mused, “I figured you might be lonely.”
You finally lifted your gaze, unimpressed. “Oh, how thoughtful. And totally not an excuse to bother me.”
Sirius let out a dramatic gasp, clutching his chest like you had physically harmed him. “You wound me.”
You smirked. “Not yet, but if you keep talking, I might.”
His grin widened. “Feisty. I like it.”
“You like everything.”
“No, just you.”
You rolled your eyes, but you were smiling.
Sirius noticed.
He noticed everything.
And like the menace he was, he took that as an invitation.
With a lazy confidence that only he could pull off, he slid into the chair across from you, propping his chin on one hand. “So, what are we reading today?”
We. As if he was included in this activity.
You sighed, snapping your book shut with an audible thud. “Sirius, don’t you have somewhere else to be? Like, I don’t know, bothering James? Tormenting Snape? Staring at yourself in a mirror?”
“Multitasking, love.” He winked. “Besides, I like this game much better.”
You raised an eyebrow. “What game?”
“The one where I try to get you to fall for me.” He smirked. “And you pretend you’re not already madly in love.”
You let out a short laugh. “Oh, that’s what this is?”
Sirius tapped his fingers against the table. “Mmm, seems that way, doesn’t it?”
You leaned forward slightly, resting your arms on the wood between you. “I hate to break it to you, Black, but if this is your grand seduction plan, I’d give it a solid four out of ten.”
Sirius clutched his heart again, even more dramatically than before. “Four?! That’s a crime.”
“Would’ve been a three, but I added an extra point for effort.”
He narrowed his eyes, studying you. “You’re toying with me.”
You smirked. “What gave it away?”
Sirius huffed, but the grin never left his lips. He leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms as he examined you. His eyes flickered between yours, as if searching for a weak spot.
Then, he smiled.
That slow, dangerous, oh no kind of smile.
“Alright, then,” he mused, tilting his head. “I’ll just have to try harder.”
You arched an eyebrow. “That sounds suspiciously like a challenge.”
“Maybe it is.”
Your fingers tapped against your book thoughtfully. “So what happens if you lose?”
Sirius grinned. “I never lose.”
You leaned in slightly, dropping your voice to a whisper. “Sounds like someone’s overconfident.”
Sirius mirrored your movement, his voice dropping to match yours. “Sounds like someone’s tempted.”
You held his gaze for a long, tense moment, a silent battle of wills.
Determined not to let him win this round, you leaned in too, mirroring his movement, until your faces were barely inches apart.
“You know what, Sirius?” you whispered.
His smirk widened. “What, love?”
You reached forward, grabbed your book—and snapped it shut in his face.
Sirius jerked back, startled, blinking rapidly.
“Merlin’s bloody beard, woman!” Sirius exclaimed, rubbing his forehead. “That was uncalled for!”
You leaned back in your chair, casually flipping your book open again. “No, invading my personal space was uncalled for.”
Sirius groaned dramatically, slumping in his chair. “You are absolutely infuriating.”
“You love it,” you said sweetly.
Sirius huffed, but there was no mistaking the way his lips curled up. “One day, sweetheart,” he said, voice low and full of promise. “One day, you’re going to beg me to kiss you.”
You scoffed, flipping a page. “Highly unlikely.”
Sirius just smirked, standing up and giving you a mock salute. “We’ll see.”
And with that, he turned and sauntered out of the library, leaving you staring after him, suddenly very aware of the warmth lingering on your face.
The retaliation.
It's been weeks now.
Weeks.
And Sirius was still all over you.
At this point, it was clear that Sirius Black had declared war.
Your response to that? Oh, he had no idea who he was messing with.
Because if Sirius Black wanted to play this game, you were going to make damn sure he suffered for it.
So, the next time you saw him in the corridor—leaning lazily against the wall, that insufferable grin already in place—you stopped, tilted your head, and gave him a slow, deliberate once-over.
Sirius blinked, caught slightly off guard. But only for a second.
Then, he smirked, straightening up. “See something you like, sweetheart?”
You let the silence drag out, letting his own arrogance build up. Then, just as his smirk widened—
You hummed, tapping your chin. “Hmm. Almost.”
Then, with a slow, infuriatingly confident wink, you turned on your heel and walked away.
Sirius stood frozen in place.
For a solid ten seconds.
You could feel his confusion radiating behind you, the absolute whiplash of thinking he had the upper hand, only to be completely blindsided.
James, who had just walked up behind Sirius, witnessed the entire thing. He clapped Sirius on the back with a grin. “Mate.”
Sirius didn’t even turn.
James smirked. “I think you just got Sirius’d.”
Sirius finally blinked, coming back to himself. He turned to James, looking betrayed. “That—that’s not a thing.”
James snorted. “It definitely is now.”
Sirius turned back toward the hallway you had disappeared down, running a hand through his hair, still processing.
You almost felt bad for him.
Almost.
But then you heard his voice, muttering to himself as you rounded the corner—
“Bloody hell.”
And that?
That was exactly the reaction you wanted.
The shift.
The Gryffindor common room was warm with the crackling fire, but the corridors leading to it were anything but. The stone walls seemed to absorb every bit of warmth, leaving you slightly chilled as you walked back from the Prefect’s meeting. It had run longer than expected—something about Filch catching a group of first-years trying to hex Mrs. Norris (which, honestly, you would have given them extra House points for).
As you turned the last corner, you spotted him.
Sirius Black, leaning against the wall right outside the common room entrance, looking for all the world like he was posing for a magazine cover. His arms were crossed over his chest, one foot propped against the stone, his black hair perfectly tousled in that effortlessly charming way that drove half the school mad.
You raised an eyebrow. “Are you seriously waiting for me?”
Sirius smirked. “What makes you think I wasn’t just casually standing here, looking incredibly handsome?”
You sighed, exasperated but amused. “Because you’re Sirius Black. And Sirius Black doesn’t do casual.”
Sirius pushed off the wall, stepping in front of you, blocking your way into the common room. “Guilty as charged,” he admitted. “Though, in my defense, you do make it very hard to resist waiting around just to see you.”
You tilted your head, smirking. “That was almost sweet.”
He grinned. “Almost?”
“Yes, almost. But then I remembered you say this kind of thing to everyone.”
Sirius gasped dramatically. “Now that’s just slander. I’d never be this dedicated to anyone else.”
“Oh, dedicated now, are we?” you teased.
He stepped closer, closing some of the space between you, his smirk never fading. “You have noticed, haven’t you?”
Your smirk mirrored his, refusing to back down. “Oh, I’ve noticed.” You leaned in just a fraction. “I just don’t think it’s working.”
Sirius let out a soft laugh, but there was something in his expression—something unreadable, something a little too amused, a little too confident. “Oh, love,” he murmured, voice lower now, teasing but laced with something else. “You say that like you’re not enjoying every second of it.”
Your breath caught—just for a moment.
Not because he was right (which he wasn’t, obviously), but because of how close he suddenly was. The playful flirting had been going on for weeks now, but this? This was new.
You weren’t about to let him win, though.
With slow deliberation, you reached up and threaded your fingers through his hair, twirling a loose strand between your fingers. “Lovely hair,” you mused, watching his expression closely. “Shame if someone—oh, I don’t know—hexed it green.”
Sirius stilled.
It was brief, barely a second, but you felt it—the way his breath hitched just slightly, the way his smirk faltered for half a heartbeat before he recovered.
Then, he exhaled a soft laugh. “You wouldn’t dare.”
You grinned. “Try me.”
Sirius blinked, clearly caught off guard.
Then, he laughed. A real, genuine laugh, not his usual smug chuckle. “Merlin, you really are something else.”
You grinned. “Took you this long to realize?”
Sirius shook his head, still grinning. “I should be winning this, you know.”
You smirked. “Oh, you think you’re winning?”
He chuckled. “I know I am.”
“Sure, Black. Keep telling yourself that.”
His grey eyes flickered with something unreadable before he suddenly leaned in, just enough to make your heart stutter—not quite touching, but close enough that you could feel the warmth radiating off him.
His voice dropped to a murmur. “You love this.”
For the first time since this ridiculous game had started, you felt your heart stutter—just for a second. He was so close, his voice quieter than usual, like this moment wasn’t just another round of flirting.
You kept your cool, refusing to step back. “Of course I do,” you whispered. “I love watching you try so hard.”
His smirk widened. “Oh, darling. I’m not even trying yet.”
That was it. That was the moment you felt it.
The shift.
You weren’t sure who moved first. Maybe it was him, leaning in just enough to blur the lines of your usual banter. Maybe it was you, tilting your head slightly, eyes locked with his, breath caught somewhere between another teasing remark and something… else.
Whatever it was, the air between you shifted.
Sirius had been relentless these past few weeks, flirting with you at every opportunity, always pushing, always testing. But you had been just as ruthless—flirting back, laughing at his attempts, making sure he never got the reaction he was aiming for. It was a game, a fun one, a ridiculous one.
But now?
Now, you weren’t entirely sure what it was anymore.
You still had your fingers in his hair, twirling a strand between them as if you weren’t hyper-aware of the way he was looking at you. Sirius wasn’t just smirking now—his usual cocky, easy-going expression had melted into something slower, something almost… amused. Like he was watching you figure something out in real time.
His voice was soft, but there was no missing the amusement in it. “You’re staring, love.”
You scoffed, shaking off whatever that moment was. “So are you.”
“Course I am.” He grinned, tilting his head. “You are stunning.”
You rolled your eyes, letting go of his hair and taking a small step back—just enough to clear your head. “You’re insufferable.”
Sirius grinned. “And yet, here you are, still standing in front of me. Fascinating.”
You huffed a laugh. “I’m only here because you’re blocking the entrance.”
“Oh?” He glanced behind him, at the portrait hole, then back at you. “Say please, and I might move.”
You raised an eyebrow. “I’d rather hex you.”
Sirius gasped dramatically, placing a hand over his chest. “Violence? So soon in our courtship?”
You groaned, shoving his shoulder lightly. “Move, Black.”
He grinned but didn’t budge. Instead, he leaned slightly closer again, grey eyes twinkling with mischief. “Admit it.”
You crossed your arms. “Admit what?”
“That I make your heart race.”
You blinked. Oh, he was getting bold now.
You tilted your head, pretending to consider. “Hmmm… I do get a strange reaction around you.”
Sirius smirked. “Do you now?”
You nodded solemnly. “Yes. It’s called secondhand embarrassment.”
Sirius barked a laugh. “Merlin, you love giving me a hard time, don’t you?”
“Oh, absolutely.”
He studied you for a second, like he was debating his next move, and then—because he was Sirius Black—he smirked again and leaned in just slightly, lowering his voice to something almost dangerous.
“Don’t worry, love,” he murmured, “I like it rough.”
For the first time, you felt your brain short-circuit.
It was barely noticeable—the fraction of a second it took you to process what he had just said—but Sirius caught it. His smirk widened ever so slightly, his eyes flickering with triumph.
Oh, hell no.
You refused to give him the satisfaction.
So you did the only logical thing: you reached out, grabbed his tie (because of course Sirius Black wore his tie loose and messy), and yanked.
Sirius stumbled forward, his hands flying up instinctively to catch himself on either side of you, palms pressing against the wall just behind your shoulders. He was close now—closer than before, his face mere inches from yours.
His smirk faltered.
Your grip on his tie tightened. “Careful, Black,” you whispered, voice dripping with amusement. “You’re playing a dangerous game.”
Sirius exhaled a laugh, but it wasn’t as confident as before. His gaze flickered to your lips—just briefly, just enough for you to notice.
And then, just as quickly, he pulled back, his usual grin snapping back into place. “Well,” he said, voice a little too casual, “this has been fun.”
You let go of his tie, smoothing it down like you hadn’t just pulled him into your trap. “Oh, so much fun.”
Sirius ran a hand through his hair, clearing his throat. “Well then. I suppose I should let you get inside before you freeze to death out here.”
You hummed. “How thoughtful of you.”
He stepped aside, finally moving out of the way, and gestured dramatically to the portrait hole. “After you, my dear.”
You walked past him, but just before stepping inside, you turned back slightly, smirking. “Try harder next time, Black.”
Sirius chuckled, watching as you disappeared into the common room.
And for the first time since this whole thing started, he realized—he was the one who needed to be careful.
Because this?
This wasn’t a game anymore.
The realization.
If someone had told Sirius Black a month ago that he’d be spending every single day trying to fluster a girl and failing miserably, he would’ve laughed in their face.
If they had told him that, in the process, he’d start genuinely enjoying her company instead of just playing around? That he’d actually start looking forward to seeing her, not just for the game but because… he liked being around her?
He would’ve called them a liar.
But here he was.
You had barely stepped into the classroom when you noticed something was off.
Your usual seat, the one you had claimed since the start of the year, was occupied.
And not by just anyone.
Sirius Black sat in your chair, lounging as if he owned the place, a smug smirk firmly in place.
You narrowed your eyes. “You’re in my spot.”
Sirius stretched lazily, arms behind his head. “Oh? Didn’t see your name on it.”
You huffed, placing a hand on your hip. “Move.”
His grin widened. “Make me.”
Oh, he wanted this.
He was practically begging for you to retaliate, thinking he had the upper hand, that he controlled this game.
Well.
He was about to learn exactly why you were a worthy opponent.
You gave him an innocent smile, stepping forward slowly. He watched you, intrigued, likely expecting you to shove him out of the chair or hit him with a sarcastic remark.
Instead, you simply… sat down.
Right in his lap.
His brain, for the first time in his entire existence, short-circuited.
Sirius froze.
James, sitting across from the both of you, choked violently on his own spit.
Peter dropped his quill.
Remus barely glanced up from his book, but there was a very distinct twitch of his lips.
“Comfortable, love?” Sirius finally managed, voice noticeably strained.
You made a show of shifting slightly, settling into place, “Quite.”
Sirius swallowed. Hard.
James rolled his eyes. “You two are actually unbearable.”
You smirked. “What’s wrong, Potter? Can’t handle a little friendly seating arrangement?”
James deadpanned. “That is not a ‘friendly’ anything.”
Sirius, still struggling to recover, cleared his throat. His hands had instinctively settled on your waist when you sat down, and it seemed he just now realized it because they suddenly twitched, as if unsure whether to move away or pull you closer.
You weren’t giving him a single second to recover.
Tilting your head slightly, you turned your head back at him, bringing your lips dangerously close to his ear. “What’s the matter, Black?” you purred. “Speechless?”
Sirius inhaled sharply, gripping your waist just slightly in retaliation. “You wish,” he muttered back, his breath warm against your skin.
James slammed his hands on the desk. “I swear, if you two start shagging right now, I’m dropping out.”
Peter just covered his eyes. “I can’t watch this.”
Remus, without looking up, turned a page in his book. “Oh, please. They’ve been shagging with their eyes for months.”
Sirius barked out a laugh, but you could feel how tense he was under you. You weren’t supposed to be this bold. You were supposed to roll your eyes and huff at him, not actually play along.
You smiled sweetly. “You alright, darling? You seem a bit… tense.”
Sirius swallowed again, eyes locked onto yours, something sharp and dark flickering in them. “Oh, sweetheart, I’m more than alright.”
“Oh, bloody hell,” James groaned, dramatically slumping onto the desk.
Peter still had his hands over his eyes, mumbling something about his innocence being shattered.
Remus just turned another page, unimpressed. “If you lot are done providing the rest of us with free entertainment, I’d like to get through at least one class today without wanting to fling myself into the Black Lake.”
He narrowed his eyes at you, trying to act as if this wasn’t affecting him in the slightest. “I hope you realize you’ve just started something you can’t finish, love.”
You hummed, your face still turned to his, almost touching. “Oh, I always finish what I start, Black.”
Sirius, determined not to be outdone, tightened his grip on your waist ever so slightly, shifting just enough to remind you of where exactly you were sitting. His lips curled into a devilish grin as he leaned in slightly.
Peter peeked through his fingers at you and Sirius, then promptly covered his eyes again. “Nope. Still too much.”
“Careful, love,” he murmured, voice smooth as silk. “You might actually start liking it here.”
And that was when Professor Slughorn walked in.
“Ah, good morning, my dear students!” Slughorn’s voice boomed through the classroom, cheerful and oblivious.
You and Sirius froze.
James’ eyes widened. “Oh, this is better than detention—”
Before he could even finish that sentence, you had launched yourself out of Sirius’s lap so quickly it was like you’d Apparated.
Sirius, whose hands had still been on your waist, was left gripping air, looking momentarily lost before hastily readjusting his posture, trying to appear as if nothing had happened.
You were already in the seat beside him, perfectly composed, as if you hadn’t just been sprawled across his lap like a queen on her throne.
Slughorn, still cheerfully setting down his books, was thankfully none the wiser.
“This isn’t over” Sirius mumbled.
You smirked, pretending to focus on your textbook. “I’d be disappointed if it was.”
Something more?
Sirius Black did not get nervous. He did not overthink. He did not, under any circumstances, lose control of his own game.
And yet—
Ever since that moment in the charms classroom, ever since the way she had looked at him, the way she brought him closer by his tie, her face barely brushed against his—
He was a mess.
He kept telling himself it was nothing. A fluke. Just a moment of bad timing. He had spent weeks flirting with you, teasing you, pushing your buttons, waiting for that one moment where you would crack—where you would get flustered, where you would lose.
But now?
Now he wasn’t even sure what the prize was anymore.
It started at breakfast.
He had taken his usual seat beside James, stretching his arms over his head with a yawn. “Morning, peasants,” he greeted, swiping a piece of toast off James’ plate.
“Morning, git,” James shot back, snatching the toast back.
Sirius ignored him, gaze already drifting down the table—searching, waiting—
And there you were.
You were laughing at something Lily had said, your head thrown back slightly, eyes crinkled with amusement. The way you smiled—the way you always did that little thing where you bit your lip slightly when you were trying to suppress a laugh—
Sirius inhaled sharply and immediately looked away.
James, who had never in his life missed an opportunity to be annoying, noticed.
James narrowed his eyes. “What was that?”
Sirius took a bite of his toast. “What was what?”
“That.” James wiggled his eyebrows. “You looked at her like—like—”
“Like he wants to marry her,” Peter supplied unhelpfully.
Sirius choked on his toast.
James gasped. “Oh my god.”
Remus, who had been listening from across the table, sighed. “Please don’t start.”
James pointed his fork at Sirius. “You like her.”
Sirius, still recovering from his near-death experience, wiped his mouth and glared. “I do not.”
James grinned. “You do.”
“I don’t.”
“You so do.”
“I—” Sirius turned back toward you, ready to prove a point, ready to do something to remind himself that this was just a game—
And, of course, you were already watching him.
You raised an eyebrow, lips twitching with amusement. Busted.
Sirius swallowed hard. “Shut up, Potter.”
James cackled.
The day went on as always. Classes, quidditch practice, pranks.
At night, the castle was quiet, the corridors nearly empty as Sirius found himself walking beside you after curfew.
It had been an accident, really—one of those oh, you’re here too? kind of moments. You would both been sneaking back to the dorms after separate misadventures and had somehow fallen into step beside each other.
You weren’t even teasing anymore. Not really. Just talking.
And Merlin help him, Sirius liked it.
He liked the way your voice softened when you talked about things you loved. He liked the way you sighed dramatically every time he said something mildly ridiculous. He liked the way you walked—confident, effortless, like she owned every damn corridor of this castle.
And he liked—
Oh.
Oh shit.
“Sirius?”
He blinked. “Hmm?”
You studied him for a moment, eyes glinting with curiosity. “You okay? You looked like you were having an existential crisis just now.”
He scoffed. “Please, I don’t do existential crises.”
You smirked. “You sure? Because you definitely looked like you were having a moment.”
Sirius rolled his eyes. “I was just… thinking.”
You gasped dramatically. “Thinking? You?”
He huffed a laugh. “You’re hilarious.”
“I know.”
There was a pause—a comfortable, easy silence.
And then you nudged him lightly with your shoulder. “You never answered.”
Sirius raised an eyebrow. “Answered what?”
“What you were thinking about.”
His stomach flipped.
He could lie. He should lie.
But instead, he just—
He looked at you.
And damn it all, he knew.
He had known for a while.
Sirius cleared his throat, stalling. “Oh, you know. Just deep, profound thoughts about life and the mysteries of the universe.”
You shot him a knowing look. “Uh-huh. And by that, you mean?”
He smirked, hands tucking into his pockets. “Why the bloody hell Filch still uses oil lamps when we have lumos.”
You rolled your eyes but laughed, shaking your head. “Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant, Black. Truly, your intellect knows no bounds.”
“Glad you noticed,” he quipped, nudging you back lightly.
And then it happened again—that lull. That moment of easy silence that should have been awkward but wasn’t. It was almost… nice.
Because you were watching him—really watching him—with those knowing eyes of yours. And maybe he was imagining it, but your usual teasing smirk wasn’t there. Instead, there was something softer, something curious, like you were actually interested in his answer.
Sirius hated it.
Because it meant something had changed.
He wasn’t supposed to enjoy your company like this. He wasn’t supposed to find it fun to just walk and talk with you without trying to one-up each other. He wasn’t supposed to feel his chest tighten slightly when you laughed at something genuine he said, rather than some over-the-top flirtation.
Merlin’s bloody beard, he was in trouble.
And he definitely wasn’t supposed to notice the way the moonlight caught in your hair, or how your eyes sparkled when you were amused, or how—
“You’re doing it again,” you observed, voice teasing but gentle.
Sirius blinked, forcing himself back to reality. “Doing what?”
“Thinking too hard,” you said, nudging him again. “That’s twice in one night. Are you feeling alright?”
“I’m fine,” he insisted, maybe a little too quickly.
Before Sirius could even attempt to come up with something—something witty, something that would push this moment back into the realm of teasing where it was safe—the sharp sound of footsteps echoed down the corridor.
They both froze.
Filch.
Sirius grabbed her wrist without thinking, tugging you into the nearest alcove. You barely had time to press yourselves against the stone wall before Filch’s lamp light flickered against the opposite wall, his grumbling voice growing louder.
Sirius could feel your breath against his neck, warm and too close. You were right there, pressed against him, your body tucked between his and the cold castle wall, and Merlin’s bloody beard, this was not helping his already spiraling thoughts.
You shifted slightly, just enough to glance at him, your lips dangerously close to his jaw. “Well, this is cozy,” you whispered.
Sirius huffed a quiet laugh, though his heart was hammering. “You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”
You smirked, your voice low, teasing. “Maybe.”
Filch’s footsteps paused just outside the alcove.
Sirius didn’t breathe.
Neither did you.
For a moment, it was just the sound of Filch’s muttering, the flicker of the lamp light, the distant creak of the castle settling.
Then, mercifully, the footsteps started moving again, fading into the distance.
You exhaled slowly. “That was close.”
Sirius turned his head slightly, the movement bringing his lips just a fraction closer to yours. “Too close,” he murmured.
You were looking at him now, your eyes catching the faint glow of the lantern light. There was something different in them—something Sirius couldn’t quite place, but felt deep in his chest.
You weren't smirking anymore.
And neither was he.
The air between you shifted.
Your gaze flickered to his lips—so fast he might have imagined it, but Merlin, he hoped he didn’t.
His grip on your waist tightened slightly, just for a second. He could lean in. He could close the space. He could—
Footsteps again.
You jumped apart.
This time, it was Peeves, floating lazily through the corridor, humming some dreadful little tune to himself.
Sirius exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair, trying to gather himself. When he turned back to you, you were watching him with an unreadable expression.
Then, because you were you, you smirked.
“Almost had a moment there, Black.”
Sirius, still feeling the ghost of her warmth against him, forced a grin. “You wish.”
But his heart was still pounding.
Not a game anymore.
It had been building.
For weeks, maybe even months. The teasing, the flirting, the lingering glances, the casual touches that weren’t so casual anymore. Every moment had been leading up to this—an inevitable collision of something they both had tried (and failed) to ignore.
And, as it turned out, there was only so much tension two people could handle before something snapped.
You were alone in the Gryffindor common room—again. It had become your place, their quiet retreat when everyone else had gone to bed. Sirius lounged on the couch, legs stretched out, hands behind his head, exuding obnoxious levels of confidence.
You sat beside him, one knee tucked under you, arms crossed, watching him with amusement.
Sirius smirked. “You stare at me an awful lot, love. Starting to think you actually fancy me.”
You scoffed. “Please. I stare at you the same way someone stares at a particularly dumb puppy.”
Sirius gasped, hand flying to his chest. “You wound me.”
You smirked. “You deserve it.”
“Oh, come on,” he drawled, shifting so he was closer to you. “Admit it. You think I’m irresistible.”
You rolled your eyes. “You wish.”
“I know,” he shot back, winking.
And that—that damn wink—was the final straw.
Because Sirius Black was—
Infuriating.
Cocky.
Too smug for his own good.
And yet, for some stupid, ridiculous, absolutely insane reason—
You wanted him.
And you wanted him to shut up.
So, without thinking, without hesitating, without any of your usual control—
You grabbed the collar of his stupid perfectly rumpled shirt—
And kissed him.
Sirius made a muffled sound of surprise—because, to be fair, he had not expected that.
But then—
Oh.
Oh, he liked this.
Your hands were tangled in his shirt, holding him in place like you were daring him to move away (as if he ever would ). His mind short-circuited, all thoughts completely gone except for you.
And Merlin, you kissed like you meant it.
Like you had been holding back just as much as he had.
Like you knew this had been coming all along.
Sirius reacted instinctively—one hand moving to the back of your neck, the other gripping your waist, pulling you impossibly closer. He tilted his head, deepening the kiss, savoring the way you melted into him—
And, bloody hell, he was gone.
He stared at you, breathing heavily, lips tingling, brain struggling to catch up.
When you finally pulled back (too soon, far too soon), Sirius was dazed.
You smirked. “Finally shut you up.”
Sirius blinked.
And then—
He grinned.
“Oh, love,” he murmured, voice lower than before, hands still on her waist, “if that’s how you plan to shut me up, I’m never stopping.”
You laughed—breathless, amused, maybe even a little shaken—but you didn’t move away.
Sirius tilted his head. “You liked that.”
You raised an eyebrow. “So did you.”
Sirius smirked. “Obviously.”
A pause.
A shift.
The air between you still charged, still crackling with something you could no longer ignore.
And then—
“Are we going to talk about this?” you asked, voice softer now.
Sirius exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. “Honestly?” He met your gaze, something real in his expression. “I have no idea what to say.”
You hummed. “Good. Me neither.”
Another pause.
Another glance at your lips.
And then—
Sirius smirked. “Wanna do it again?”
You rolled your eyes—but then you grabbed his tie and pulled him in for another kiss.
And this time, neither of you were pretending.
You both didn’t stop at just one kiss.
Or two.
Or three.
It was impossible to stop when every touch, every kiss, every breath made you want more.
Sirius wasn’t sure how much time had passed—minutes? Hours? A lifetime?—before you finally broke apart, still tangled up in each other on the Gryffindor common room couch.
You were curled into his side, head resting against his shoulder, your fingers lazily tracing patterns over the fabric of his shirt. Sirius had one arm slung around your waist, holding you way too close for someone who was definitely not in love.
(Except he absolutely was).
The fire crackled in the silence, casting flickering shadows around the room.
Neither of you spoke for a long time.
And that was the problem.
Because now—now, you both actually had to deal with this.
Sirius was screwed.
Absolutely, entirely, undeniably screwed.
Because less than twelve hours after the greatest (and most terrifying) kiss of his life, the Marauders found out.
And they did not take it well.
“YOU DID WHAT?!”
Sirius winced as James’ very loud, very dramatic voice echoed through the dormitory.
Peter, wide-eyed, turned to Remus. “I knew something was up!”
Remus smirked knowingly. “Oh, we all knew.”
James, meanwhile, was pacing the room like a madman. “Okay, okay, hold on—” He spun on Sirius. “You kissed her?”
Sirius sighed. “Yes.”
James pointed aggressively. “And you liked it?”
Sirius scowled. “Obviously.”
Peter gasped. “Oh, no.”
Remus snorted. “Oh, yes.”
James took a deep breath, eyes gleaming with mischief. “Pads…” He grinned. “You like her.”
Sirius froze.
And that—that tiny moment of hesitation—was all they needed.
James screamed.
Peter looked shocked.
Remus looked entirely too smug.
Sirius groaned. “For Merlin’s sake, I don’t—”
James tackled him onto the bed. “YOU’RE IN LOVE.”
Sirius nearly threw his pillow at him. “I am not in love.”
Remus, sitting across from them, raised an eyebrow. “You do realize you’ve spent every waking moment with her lately, right?”
Peter nodded. “And you don’t even flirt with other girls anymore.”
James smirked. “And you look at her like she hung the bloody moon.”
Sirius scowled. “I do not.”
James leaned back, arms behind his head. “You know what? I think we should all start placing new bets.”
“Oh, do tell,” Remus said dryly.
James grinned. “I bet he admits he loves her by the end of the month.”
Sirius choked. “I don’t—”
“Oh, come on, Pads,” James interrupted. “It’s so obvious.”
Peter nodded. “You’re, like, way too soft around her now.”
Sirius scowled. “I am not—”
“You literally tucked her hair behind her ear yesterday,” Remus said flatly.
Sirius froze.
James and Peter howled with laughter.
“HE KNOWS!” James cackled. “HE KNOWS HE’S SCREWED!”
Sirius groaned, running a hand down his face. “I hate all of you.”
James smirked. “No, you hate yourself for falling so hard.”
The truth.
Sirius had never been nervous before.
Not really.
Not in a way that mattered.
But now? Now, as he stood in the dimly lit common room, watching you sit cross-legged on the couch, waiting for him to say something, his heart was pounding.
Because this was it. This was the moment he decided to stop being a bloody coward and actually talk to you.
No more hiding. No more pretending.
Just… the truth.
Sirius exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. "So, um… I need to tell you something."
You raised an eyebrow, amused. "That sentence is never a good sign."
Sirius smirked. "Depends on your definition of ‘good,’ love."
You rolled your eyes. "Alright, Black. Out with it."
Sirius hesitated. He could still back out, still pretend nothing had changed between you—
But he didn’t want to.
He took a breath. “The whole flirting thing… the game we were playing.” He met your gaze. “It started because of a bet.”
You didn’t even blink. “I know.”
Sirius frowned. “Wait—what?”
You smirked. “I know about your little bet with James.”
Sirius groaned, rubbing his temples. “Of course you do.”
You eyes sparkled with mischief. “Did you really think James Potter could keep his mouth shut about something that entertaining?”
“Merlin,” Sirius muttered. “I should have.”
You laughed, then tilted your head. “Why are you telling me this now?”
Sirius hesitated again—but only for a second. “Because it’s not a game to me anymore.” He met your gaze, something real in his expression. “I like you. And I didn’t want this to be built on a stupid bet.”
You didn't speak immediately. Just studied him, like she were assessing him.
Sirius forced himself to keep his usual bravado at bay, to let you see him instead of the version of himself he usually put on for the world.
And then—
You smiled.
A real, genuine smile.
“Well,” you said lightly, “that’s interesting.”
Sirius narrowed his eyes. “Why?”
You bit your lip, amusement dancing in your expression. “Because, Black… I had a bet too.”
Sirius blinked. “What?”
You grinned. “James bet me that I couldn’t make you fall for me.”
Sirius froze.
His brain short-circuited.
And then—
“I’m going to kill him.”
You cackled, clapping your hands. “Oh, this is perfect.”
Sirius groaned, sinking onto the couch beside you. “James bloody Potter.” He looked at you, half-amused, half-furious. “You knew?”
You nodded, smug. “Of course.”
Sirius threw his hands in the air. “James set us up.”
You shrugged. “And it worked.”
Sirius opened his mouth—then paused.
Because—
Oh, Merlin.
It did work.
He turned to look at you. “You actually like me?”
You rolled your eyes. “Why do you sound so surprised?”
Sirius scoffed. “Because you were supposed to be the one hopelessly falling for me.”
You smirked. “Guess James was right, then.”
Sirius groaned. “I hate him.”
You nudged him playfully. “No, you don’t.”
He sighed dramatically. “Fine. I love him. But I also hate him.”
You laughed, then reached out, twining your fingers through his. “For what it’s worth,” you said softly, “I was never playing a game with you. Not really.”
Sirius’ heart stuttered.
Because this—this was real.
And it was terrifying.
And he loved it.
He turned your hand over in his, brushing his thumb over your knuckles. “Yeah?”
You smiled. “Yeah.”
Sirius swallowed, something tight in his throat. “So what do we do now?”
You grinned. “Well, first—” you leaned in, voice dropping to a whisper. “—you kiss me again.”
Sirius smirked. “Oh, darling, I thought you’d never ask.”
And this time, when he kissed you, there was no bet, no game—
Just the both of you.
The aftermath.
It quickly became common knowledge that Sirius and his girlfriend (which still sounded insane to him) were the most ridiculous couple to ever exist.
Because while other couples held hands and whispered sweet nothings, Sirius and you—
Well.
You teased each other, you flirted relentlessly, annoyed each other and at the same time also had your soft moments.
James Potter deeply regretted his life choices.
Because here’s the thing—when he first made the bets, it was supposed to be hilarious. Watching Sirius try (and fail) to seduce someone who actually gave him a challenge? Comedy gold.
Watching you break Sirius Black’s unshakable confidence? Even better.
And then, somehow, those two idiots actually fell for each other.
Now, every single day, James had to deal with this.
James sat at the Gryffindor table, glaring across the Great Hall.
At you both.
Sirius had an arm slung lazily around your waist, smirking as you stole food from his plate like it belonged to you.
You weren't even subtle about it. You would just reach over, pluck a piece of toast from his hand, and take a bite without breaking eye contact.
Sirius, instead of protesting like a normal person, grinned and leaned in. “Careful, darling,” he murmured, voice low. “If you keep stealing from me, I might have to take something from you.”
You smirked. “Oh? And what exactly would you take, Black?”
Sirius’ smirk widened. “Guess you’ll have to find out.”
You just shook your head and smiled, he reached out to take a sip of tea from your cup. It was strange how comfortable you were around each other.
You yawned, resting your head in his shoulder, the moment quickly shifting from teasing to softness. This was the kind of thing that always happened between you, you could just go from full on annoying each other to the cutest moment ever.
"Tired, baby?" Sirius whispered, his fingers caressing your hip softly. His voice soft.
You had a small smile in your lips. "It's all your fault and that horrible Muggle game"
"You were the one that kept asking for a rematch" Sirius grinned, letting a soft kiss in your hair.
James slammed his fork onto the table. “I hate this.”
You and Sirius came out of your love bubble, looking at James while trying to hold back the laughter. James was definitely regretting his life decisions.
Remus, barely looking up from his plate, hummed. “No, you don’t.”
James gestured wildly. “They’re so annoying.”
Peter snorted. “They’re exactly the same as before. Just… more obnoxious.”
Sirius turned to James, absolutely radiating smugness. “Something wrong, Prongs?”
James scowled. “Yeah. You two.”
You raised an eyebrow, feigning innocence. “Why, James, I thought you wanted us to be together.”
“I take it back.”
Sirius chuckled, pressing a ridiculously over-the-top kiss to the top of you head just to piss James off more. “Too late.”
James groaned, flopping onto the table dramatically. “This is hell.”
Remus patted his back. “You did bring this upon yourself.”
James let out a miserable sigh. “Worst idea ever.”

Paint It Black
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/8193ef7a4ad56121d5a2c532e74713f2/70068410d7457a8e-88/s540x810/b868f8361454cefc3103f2276f8b0bd56ae45c7d.jpg)
She’s so cute. She never did like Valentine’s Day. But this may be her most adorable protest yet.
“Awww, not in the Valentine’s Day spirit, cupcake?”
“Nuh uh, Daddy! It’s a stupid holiday! Dumb and stupid!”
“It’s a celebration of love, sweet pea! What’s to hate about that?”
“Not love, Daddy! It’s just to sell chocolates and flowers to desperate men who think it’ll save their relationship!”
“Oh yeah? Well, then what am I gonna do with my reservation today? Guess you don’t wanna go on a date with Daddy.”
Like I’d bring a diaper girl on a Valentine’s date.
Nothing says romance like a diaper bag, baby powder, and wiping the end result of that fancy meal off her bum.
“Wait, wait! Daddddyyyyy! Can we please? Please, Daddy?”
“I thought Valentine’s Day was stupid, pumpkin?”
Her little pitter patter of excitement is adorable, but I have other plans tonight.
And so does she.
“But Daddyyyyy! I wanna! I can wear a pretty dress and and, maybe a pully!”
“My silly little nutter butter, I’m not risking a blowout at a five star restaurant with you in a pully!”
“But! I won’t poopoo I promise! Won’t! Won’t! Won’t!”
There’s something about the mix of her all black outfit and the comically infantile behavior that just is…ugh.
Perfect.
“Peanut, don’t write checks your tushie can’t cash. Besides, you have your own date to worry about tonight.”
“I-I do?”
“You’re gonna love it, jellybean! Daddy set everything up for you! A romantic, candlelight dinner!”
Well, as romantic as a pamper packer like her could ask for.
“W-with you, Daddy?”
“Daddy has a date already, sugar pie. I need a break from diapers and Bluey. Plus, the reservation is after your bedtime. But your date is so excited!”
“B-but…Daddy!”
“You said you wanted a date, honey bun. And you got it! Remember Jake? The boy you dumped before you met me? The one you said would never make it in life?”
It’s safe to say she remembers.
“I met him at a conference last month. Turns out he has his own business now. And he was just so interested to hear about you and your…well, he was more than happy to babysit you tonight!”
Ugh, I wish she was wearing a white diaper. It would’ve been adorable watching her tinkles yellow her diaper.
“Not Jake, Daddy! I don’t want him to see me like this!”
“Muffin, this is who you are! You may think your edgy in your black diaper, but you’ll always be Daddy’s precious poopy pamper princess! And it’s time to show Jake you did him a favor!”
“B-but what if I…I…Daddy! What if he sees me poopoo?”
“I told him all about your diapers and boom booms, marshmallow. He won’t be surprised.”
But that’s not the best part.
“You should have seen how excited he was when I told him about your highchair! Especially when I told him about how messy you are when you eat! He’s bringing spaghetti! Isn’t that romantic?”
“But…but Daddy!”
“Don’t worry, kumquat. His wife is coming too. They’re trying for a baby and she said she could use some practice changing a baby’s diaper. So no worrying about poopoos.”
The doorbell rings.
“That must be them, sugarplum! Perfect timing, I gotta get ready for my date. C’mon, let go say hi. You and Jake have a lot of catching up to do!”
What a perfect Valentine’s Day.

Sonic And Amy Are A Unique Couple
This is a quick Sonamy rant /ramble session. With a few added clarifications too. Enjoy!
This couple is more unique than you’d think. It’s cool if anyone disagrees. I'm all for a polite debate and respect your opinion. But if you're willing to hear me out, I'll be willing to explain myself as clearly as possible. Great? Awesome! Let’s get started!
Amy doesn't want to change Sonic. I will scream this until I'm not able to speak any more that Amy loves Sonic for who he is. She always has but it wasn't until IDW that she expressed it out loud. Still one of my favorite moments between them.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/434c9cdf45601b767f1eb01ad1cd123a/c1b111d5204e656a-14/s540x810/dd6d0da16c9d8c8488831eee61f3daf9ef44beb5.jpg)
Does that make their relationship unique? Not really. What makes their relationship unique is what Amy loves about Sonic is kind of the reason they're not a couple yet. Sonic is an ongoing force that can’t be stopped or changed. Of course, he’ll allow someone to join him on a race, but he still keeps going. Not to say Sonic won’t stop to smell the roses (pun not intended) but he’ll do it on his own time. Amy always likes to take advantage of those moments and best of all, Sonic doesn’t mind. Even during their old chases, he’d slow down for her. Says a lot about the connection they have but there’s more
Their chemistry is…something for lack of a better term. Their back and forth is so interesting to me. Sonic does like Amy back. Notable examples here but to put it shortly, Sonic doesn’t know what he’s doing when it comes to romance. Sometimes he’s not into it and other times he’s chill. Sometimes Amy is ecstatic and other times she's bashful. I'm looking at you Sonic X.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a4694f2710a81ed5239c84d1ee4acbc0/c1b111d5204e656a-40/s540x810/cf30e414dd1e1723718aedd0a0c0a3f5c621c62c.jpg)
Every time Amy’s occupied, is when Sonic wants her the most. Amy on the other hand wants Sonic to enjoy his freedom. Neither of them stops to think about how maybe they can have it both ways.
I'll also mention romance isn’t about “being tied down.” That paints romance as if it’s some kind of chain being rapt around your neck or being forced to be with the person. That is not romance. It’s keeping someone hostage. Something Amy would not do. Every time she’d joke around about marrying him Sonic didn’t take it seriously. Heroes included.
Sonic’s line in Heros: “Amy, knock it off. There's no time to play!” Dude knows Amy was messing with him. She was written to be girly, childish, adventurous, and cartoony. No, it wasn’t always executed well. Hello, Sonic Freeriders Amy! But I think this scene summons it up the best.
Important thing to mention as well is Sonic is an outspoken and honest character who rarely lies. It’s either you get the truth or you get nothing. He’s not the type to spare people’s feelings either, so if he had a problem with Amy in the past, he’d tell her directly. I do think she'd also stop if he genuinely told her to. The last thing Amy would want is to tarnish their friendship because of her actions. This loyal girl is so sweet.
Not to mention this is a popular trope in Japan too. The trope was what their relationship was based on.
Back to my original point Sonic and Amy aren’t a traditional couple. That’s a good thing. If they became canon their relationship wouldn’t change if they got together, but also they don’t need labels either. Romance isn’t or shouldn’t be a burden on you. That’s not how love works and that’s not what Sonic believes Amy to be. If that’s the case he wouldn’t be friends with her. Whether you ship Sonic with Amy, someone else, or no one, there should be no doubt Sonic values her friendship.
I’ll also add that Amy is just as up for an adventure as Sonic is. It’s why she loves him so much. They’re a power couple and love going out to travel, so there’s no staying in one place for these two.
In Sonic Adventure 2 you can tell Amy’s intuition when it comes to Sonic. Close to the end, she saw him looking a bit down and noticed his mood shifting a bit. “What’s the matter, Sonic?” “Oh, it’s nothing.” She knows him so well. I don't know what connection they run on but it’s inspiring.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c8ce37c9160aaf384cbefca32403c41b/c1b111d5204e656a-0f/s540x810/8838f02444b9d096c6f97e29ae3116aa20e45a0f.jpg)
These two don’t have a typical girl/boy relationship. I know some people say, “Well, why can't Sonic and Amy stay friends? Not every male and female relationship needs to be romantic.” You're 100% correct. Here are some examples.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7ec661c3b7ba1e4d55f3f70d844e43d8/c1b111d5204e656a-13/s540x810/3c23a8cf04543795578dbf6553283f90f7d0971e.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4bfb6a1ecd0e47745e617cc286928a11/c1b111d5204e656a-f0/s540x810/e0f54aee286bbf9dba6518a86d839a93950aa0f5.jpg)
The difference between other relationships is that Amy was created to be a Minnie to Sonic’s Mickey. Which is why these two are treated differently compared to others. Including in merch. There are more examples but I digress. The point is this specific pair is always going to have nuance even if they’re only friends. It doesn’t stop until Amy doesn’t love Sonic and even if it shouldn’t define her, it should still be a part of her. She might work without romance, but we already have other amazing female characters for that.
No one’s obligated to ship them because of this of course. Again, your opinion is still valid, and I will always stick to that point.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/68b7b296ab53d2c333feb5cbdfe0a493/c1b111d5204e656a-b0/s540x810/70dccc667a9e00d882b99cc914b5aebffd47946b.jpg)
Last but not least is their friendship (or situationship) as a whole.
The funny thing is their friendship is what makes their romance the most compelling. The appeal to Sonic and Amy’s dynamic is how much platonic energy they have. Romance doesn’t always mean you need to be lovey-dovey. With Sonamy it’s their powerful friendship that makes the (somewhat not platonic) interactions memorable. You don’t have to choose romantic or platonic. It can be both. I wouldn't be a Sonamy fan if I didn't think their relationship was plain. I'm here because of how different they are.
And I love them to bits. Look at this panel and tell me it isn't running with situationship fuel.

Another fun detail is in recent years despite knowing Amy still loves him, Sonic hugs her back. Even the moments in Sonic X he carries her are moments he offers to. Even when it wasn't necessary.
Can’t forget about the recent asking Amy out to a dinner panel in IDW. He's never done that before. There's a familiarity between the two of them however you look at it. I LOVE them for it.
His moments of genuinely being excited to see her are not due to some development but because Sonic’s passion for Amy has noticeably increased. Why am I bringing these up? It’s because one thing that hasn’t been talked about when it comes to romance is actions. Sure, Sonic doesn't fully confess his feelings to her outwardly. But why do you have to be obvious and in people’s face when it comes to loving someone? In Japan, love is mostly shown through what you do more than what you say. That stuff can happen there but it doesn't always have to. The “Sharing an Umbrella, Amy,” line in Frontiers carries a lot more weight when you think about the implications.
Please read this post by @egalitarian-tomboy if you're interested in the implications of Sonamy in Frontiers.

The up-to-interpretation view of whatever they have together is the main reason I and so many people ship them. It’s not the fact that they are close, but the progression of their closeness. To make a long story short, the appeal of Sonamy is the fact that they don’t have to be traditionally romantic to be an interesting couple. Amy represents expressive love and Sonic represents emotional love.
Stay creative! 💜

July
Packing everything up and moving to France with no idea where you'd live or how you were going to make money, to study under some of the most well known pastry giants in the world was...crazy. But somehow, opening up your own bake shop in Cincinnati felt even more like you were losing the last hold on your sanity. You didn't know anyone here, no friends or family nearby, but Velvet Clementine was your dream. And today, the dream smelled like vanilla, caramelized sugar, and the bright zest of fresh clementines, located in the middle of the Queen City. You had your own staff, granted it was four people but still, you were the owner, the boss, of your very own place.
Cincinnati had been your home for six weeks when the bell chimed, and two men—tall enough to make your display case look like a dollhouse—ducked into the shop. They moved with effortless confidence, their voices a low rumble of laughter as they scanned the display case with the focus of someone choosing their last meal. You watched them pile on various pastries, looking through the rows of mini pain au chocolat, almond croissants and pastel de nata. The mini fruit tarts featuring clementines and red velvet cakes were the items that made you fall in love with baking, hence the name of the place. The shorter man reached for a tart, its glossy colorful slices glistening under the bakery lights, nestled in a bed of creamy white chocolate mousse. You watched as the other one picked up a croissant, giving it a slight squeeze—a soft crackle of delicate layers breaking beneath his fingers. They seemed satisfied with their various selections, happily walking over to the register, the tall one flashing his almost sinfully perfect smile as he paid for everything. You thanked them for coming in and sent them on their way.
"You can't be serious, how did you not say anything?" Your sous chef Quinn let out a breath she had probably been holding since the two guys walked through the door.
"What are you talking about?"
She scoffed, remembering the fact that you’d lived in Europe the last few years so their presence didn’t hold much weight. She tossed a dish towel over her shoulder as she turned to face you, “they’re Bengals, babe. Like, literal football gods. Also, it helps that they’re stupidly attractive."
You hummed, processing everything she just threw at you. "Well, that part I did notice. And they’re freakishly...big. Good thing we made extras of everything, because I think they just wiped out half the front shelf."
Quinn laughed, stepping around you to check for herself. "I have a shelf they can—sorry."
"Okay easy tiger,” you let out a laugh, “they're gone. Are we still on for drinks tonight?"
"Oh absolutely, I definitely need a martini or three after seeing the best receiving duo in the game, in person. My boyfriend is actually going to lose his mind when I tell him."
You shake your head with a smile on your face, walking back to the kitchen to restock, the scent of butter and cocoa bean filling the air as you slip behind the counter to arrange the freshly baked tarts.
Much to your surprise, they were back three days later. The door sounded again, and the tall one walked up to you, his broad shoulders barely fitting in the doorway. "I'm Tee."
"Hi Tee," you smile, surprised. "Didn't expect to see you back so soon. Or your friend over there." Tee turns around to find Ja'Marr loading up on cheesecakes this time, not paying attention to anything else. The sight of him, mouth half-full of a pastry, causes you to chuckle.
"I didn't either but...damn. You the owner?"
You nod, hesitant but flattered.
"Excuse my language, but yo, this shit fire—like man. We had to come get some more. Everything’s made fresh, from... scratch?"
"Yeah, every morning I get here at like 5:30 and we bake everything. From scratch."
Ja'marr appears next to him, holding a mini crème brulee. "You are VERY good at your job. You'll be seeing a lot of us now that we're back for the season. Swear you weren't here when I left Cincy, how long you been here?"
"Stop, it's not that great.” You wave him off as he continues to nod profusely, holding up his latest find with wild eyes as you laugh again. “And I've been here a little over a month, just moved to Cincinnati actually."
"From?" Ja'Marr pipes up, curiosity dancing in his eyes.
"France, lived there for a few years to perfect my pastry skills and really focus on my craft."
"That's crazy, I just got back from Paris for Fashion Week. The food was amazing and looks like the classes worked cause you definitely know what you're doing."
"Thank you guys. And spread the word will you? I heard you two are kind of a big deal around here."
"Something like that, we appreciate you for these," Tee flashes a wide grin, holding up the bag as he thanks you one more time, "you'll see us back here soon."
The next day they returned the favor and since you'd been feeding them, they wanted to take you to a special spot downtown to really introduce you to the city. Of course you brought Quinn with you. Her boyfriend didn't believe this was actually happening until he Facetimed her and saw the guys for himself. It was nice to finally feel like you'd met people you got along with without having to try to be anyone but yourself. Over the next few weeks while exploring the Cincinnati food scene, you found out that Tee and Ja'marr were funny, sweet and kind, just two guys enjoying the last few weeks of the offseason before training camp ramped up. Both of them were in the midst of contract negotiations, having to explain to you the ins and outs of NFL life. They appreciated that you didn't care about their status and never asked unless they started the conversation and you loved having people around that made this city feel so much less like a foreign country.
Ja'Marr strolled in one morning with a grin, practically bouncing on his feet as he leaned across the counter. "Hey, so listen...you gotta make those mini cakes for my housewarming on Saturday. I mean, you have to be there, since we’re your best friends now and all. It’s only right."
Quinn, who had been wiping down the counter, stopped mid-motion and squinted at him. "Excuse me? So now I’m invisible? You’re just gonna act like I wasn’t the one keeping her entertained before you waltzed in with your designer sweatpants and phenomenal taste in bakeries? Some people." She shakes her head in mock disbelief.
Ja'Marr smirked, completely unbothered. "Anyway, Imma ignore that. Jealous isn't a good look on you Quinn." He quickly turns his attention back to you, "so...you'll be there Saturday right? I'll text you the address."
"Yes, I'll be there."
"And so will I, since we wanna exclude people from the conversation." Quinn adds in from behind you.
Ja'Marr, clearly pleased with his victory, flashed a grin as he turned to leave. "Speaking in third person? You know what I'll just see y'all Saturday." Before heading out, he shot you one more look over his shoulder. "Don’t forget, mini cakes."
As he walked out, Quinn glanced at you, a teasing glint in her eyes. "Looks like you’ve got some serious new friends now, huh?"
"We," you correct her, "we have some serious friends new friends now."
As a business owner, you prided yourself in being a professional. Even at your friend's party, you wanted to be more than on time and make the cakes look as pretty as possible. Quinn had joined you in the last-minute preparations, both of you arriving an hour before the gathering started to get things in order. The large living room was already buzzing—caterers setting up a lavish buffet, trays full of appetizers being placed on side tables. Some of Ja'Marr’s friends, who you assumed were visiting from Louisiana, lounged in the corner, their laughs echoing over the low hum of video game sound effects.
You and Quinn worked in tandem, setting the delicate mini cakes on a table near the center, the soft scent of the various flavors filled the room as you arranged the treats just so. You hadn’t even noticed Ja'Marr and Tee walking towards you until Ja'Marr's voice cut through the conversation.
"You brought my favorite ones, that’s so sweet. I am gonna tear. These. Up." His grin was wide as he took in the display of your pastries while wiggling his fingers.
"Be classy, please," you teased, glancing at him, "we don’t want your neighbors thinking a wild animal moved in next door."
"Nah, it’s cool," Ja'Marr shrugged nonchalantly, glancing down to check his phone. "I think one of the neighbors just got here."
The door clicked open, and in walked a tall figure. Your breath caught slightly in your chest as your gaze followed the man’s movement. His striking blue eyes swept across the room, a faraway intensity to his expression that made it seem like he was seeing more than just the people around him. There was a quiet confidence to his posture, the kind of calm authority that made him impossible to miss. His light brown hair, a little tousled in that effortless, perfect way, gave him the air of someone who had just stepped out of a high-end catalog.
"Burrow!" Ja'Marr exclaimed, his voice shifting into an easy familiarity. "Damn...I’m really surprised you here. Didn’t think you were leaving the house for a year after your little world tour."
"We went to the same country," Joe replied, his voice steady and slightly dry. "And it was just one." He gave Ja'Marr a side hug, but the moment was strange—a quick pinky shake that made you tilt your head, wondering what it meant. Something about it felt oddly intimate.
Ja’Marr turned his attention to you. "You remember that bakery we been tellin' you about? This is Y/N, the owner. We kinda best friends now so you need to get used to seeing her around. And that's Quinn, they're a package deal."
"Nice to meet you both." Joe’s voice was smooth, but there was a slight tension in the air as he extended his hand.
You reached for it, but Quinn—who had been standing beside you—was frozen. Her eyes were wide, staring at Joe like he was some kind of myth brought to life. The words she'd been about to say caught in her throat, her mouth opening and closing as she tried to process the moment. The seconds stretched on, but she didn't seem able to move, her usual confidence wiped away by her starstruck shock.
You nudged her lightly with your elbow, snapping her back to reality. She blinked, her expression changing in an instant. “Sorry,” she said quickly, her voice higher-pitched than usual as she shook Joe’s hand. “It’s just—um—I'm, like, a huge fan. My boyfriend, too. He’s gonna lose his shit when I tell him I met Joe Burrow.”
Joe’s eyebrow raised slightly, a small, amused smile pulling at his lips as he noticed her flustered reaction. He let out a soft chuckle. "Well, nice to meet you, Quinn."
You laughed softly, shaking your head at Quinn, trying to play it off while feeling your own pulse steadily increasing. Quinn, still flushed from her sudden nervousness, was no longer frozen but her eyes were still glued to Joe, unable to hide the awe on her face.
"Okay, now that we've got that out of the way," Ja'Marr said, clearly enjoying the shift in energy. "I know you don't play about your diet but when I tell you these cakes are the best thing I've ever put in my body? I'm being serious."
Before you can roll your eyes or downplay it, the homeowner stops you. "Don't even think about it, I don't wanna hear none of that. We just need to get him to try one."
Joe grabs one with a Biscoff cookie on top and takes a bite, completely unfazed by the fact that everyone is watching. "Wow, this is. This is incredible. I get why they won't shut up about your place. This is really good."
"Thank you," you laugh softly, trying to push down the weird sense of nervousness pooling in your chest. "And thanks for breaking your strict diet to try it, that means a lot."
He nods and more people start to show up so Ja'Marr leaves to greet them and Tee grabs a few tiny cakes for himself, Quinn asking him if he wants a plate. Everyone moved on from the previous conversation but as you made eye contact with Joe, something unexpected happened—a flicker of recognition, of something unspoken, passing between the two of you. His gaze held yours for just a heartbeat longer than usual, and for a moment, it felt like the rest of the room had melted away. Although you didn’t really want to, you ignored that feeling and focused on enjoying the night.
You and Quinn moved around the party, getting to know different groups of people, mingling with different players on the team, their significant others and she had to explain to you who all these people were. Of course you'd heard the names before, the buzz around the city the closer the players got to training camp and to the season actually starting. But if years in Europe had taught you anything, it was that sports fans are obsessively dedicated and somehow now you had also become an honorary Bengals fan because of Ja'Marr and Tee. And you couldn't wait to cheer them on. But right now? You couldn't wait to be home and in bed.
The exhaustion of the being up since 4:30 in the morning was continuously creeping up on you. The noise and the laughter mixing with the smells of rich food and the clinking of glasses was all becoming a bit too much after a long week of work. Your mind was constantly racing, your body tired and your spirit longed for some peace and quiet.
You slipped outside into the cool evening air, the chill of the night sky a welcome relief from the heat of the crowded room you'd successfully slipped out of. The city buzzed faintly in the distance, but it felt like a different world out here, away from the chatter and the constant movement.
You leaned against the porch railing, closing your eyes for a moment to just breathe.
The door clicked open behind you, and for some reason you knew exactly who it was. His presence was unmistakable.
“Didn’t expect you to be out here,” Joe’s voice was low, a little gruff but soft in the quiet of the night.
You didn’t answer right away, too focused on the quiet of the moment to form any words. You’d seen Joe around the party—he’d been laughing and chatting, looking perfectly at ease, but now he seemed... different. There was something in the way he stood, in the way he gazed at the horizon, that told you his social battery had run out just like yours had.
“You all good?” Joe asked after a beat, his voice a little more concerned than you expected.
You nodded, finally turning to face him. “Yeah. Just needed a minute. It’s...a lot, sometimes, you know? New city, new life, always on the go.”
Joe looked at you for a long moment, as though weighing something in his mind. “I get it,” he said quietly. “I’ve had days where I just need to...step away for a second. Guess we both needed some air, huh?”
You couldn’t help but chuckle at the irony. Two people who seemed like they could handle anything, both seeking a quiet moment to themselves, at the same time. You glanced at him, noting the way his hands were shoved deep in his pockets, his jaw slightly tense. He wasn’t trying to fill the silence with empty words or forced jokes, and for that, you appreciated it.
Neither of you spoke for a while, just standing there in the cool night air, the sounds of the party muffled behind the door. For the first time, you felt the world slow down a little.
Joe shifted, and you glanced over, catching the faintest flicker of a smile playing at the corner of his lips. "Tee and Ja’Marr won’t shut up about you. Guess it’s my turn to see what all the hype is about."
You smiled back, the moment stretching on, neither of you in a rush to move. "Hope I don’t disappoint."
Ja'Marr had you over a few nights later to go over some film with you to get you ready for "the most important season of your life." Tee walked into the living room holding an iPad full of notes, including the presumed depth chart for week 1. Joe sat on the opposite couch, a water bottle on the table in front of him. They gave you a rundown on what everybody's role is on the team starting with Joe.
"He's QB1, you know. Heart of the team, he's our leader." The more he talked, the more it sounded like he was reciting wedding vows to his quarterback, who looked like he was bored out of his mind. You glanced over at him, but he didn’t react, just sipped his water and let Ja’Marr ramble on. You had barely spoken to him all day—just small glances here and there without taking it any further.
The same thing happened the next day. And the day after that.
Finally, you spoke up. "You're not a man of many words, are you?"
Joe barely looked up as he responded, "Depends on who it is and what they're asking." His tone was casual, but there was a weight to it, like he didn’t give away words freely. Like almost every human interaction he had was a secret interview prying into his personal life.
"Okay, well, you've attended three sessions of my exclusive Bengals 101 class, and you've barely said a word," you pointed out, shifting on the couch to face him. "But yet, every day, you're here."
"I love football," he said simply, taking another sip of water. Then he set the bottle down, finally looking at you. "And I would hate for the newest football fan of the crew to be confused in the middle of the Jungle."
"Is that what they call it? The Jungle?" you asked, raising an eyebrow at the fact that he may have just cracked a joke.
Joe gave you a half-smirk and nodded. "It gets pretty wild, Y/N," he said, standing up and patting you lightly on the back as he walked past. "You better be ready."
He always kept interactions short, never going out of his way to talk to you in group settings, refusing to join the group chat that Tee had created with you, Ja'Marr, and Quinn. Instead of treating him like an onion who needed to be peeled, you just went with it and tried to lean in and embrace his dry sense of humor.
One night, you plopped down next to him on the couch. "Hey," you said casually, tilting your head to study him. "I was just wondering—do you ever smile? Like, unprompted? Or do you just reserve happy Joe for the comfort of your gigantic house when you're alone watching SpongeBob reruns?"
Joe turned his head slightly, his lips twitching into a smirk before he quickly looked away, trying to hide it.
Too bad for him—you caught every second of it.
A few hours later, as you cleaned up after another “film session”, you caught Joe watching you from across the room. Not in an obvious way—more like he was trying to figure something out, like you were a broken play he was seeing on his tablet.
He left without saying much, as always. You figured he preferred sticking to his usual routine—keeping his world small, guarded and unbelievably predictable.
So, when you saw him on the other side of Quinn's door after days of radio silence holding several bags of food, you almost dropped the bottle of wine in your hand.
"You know, you probably shouldn't have tipped that delivery guy. He just handed me these bags when I told him I was coming up here. I could've just been some horrible person stealing a perfectly good breakup recovery meal."
"I think because you're...you know—you? He probably would've handed you anything. I’m surprised he didn't ask for a selfie."
“Oh, he did,” Joe deadpanned, shifting the bags in his arms. “I signed the receipt instead. How's Quinn?"
"Honestly? She said she saw it coming, but it still sucks. You can come in."
Before long, everyone had found a spot, the coffee table now covered in takeout containers, the aroma of fried rice and lo-mein filling the air. The soft glow of the TV flickered across the dimly lit living room as Quinn sat curled up in the corner of the couch, picking at her food while Tee animatedly recounted his worst breakup story.
“At least your ex didn’t break up with you via emoji,” Tee said, waving his fork.
Ja’Marr nearly choked on his drink. “You lyin’.”
“Bro, she deadass sent me a salute emoji and just—gone.”
Quinn let out a weak laugh, shaking her head. “Okay, that’s tragic.”
“Exactly. So if I survived that, you’ll survive this.” Tee nudged her with his elbow.
The weight in the room had started to ease, the heaviness of Quinn’s breakup quickly turned into a lighter and softer energy. You sat on the couch sharing a blanket with her, almost having to force yourself into finishing your food because it was unfortunately your first real meal of the day. Joe sat beside you, close enough that you could feel the heat of him, his knee brushing against yours every time one of you shifted. You told yourself it was nothing.
Every once in a while, your eyes met—quick glances during a particularly funny scene, a knowing look when Ja’Marr started yelling at the TV. He was more relaxed tonight, his usual quiet guardedness giving way to something looser, something easy.
For the first time since moving to Cincinnati, you felt it. That feeling of belonging. Of finding your people.
Quinn let out an exaggerated sigh, leaning her head against your shoulder. “I guess I’ll survive.”
“You definitely will,” you reassured her, placing your hand on hers, giving it a squeeze.
Joe shifted beside you, his voice low. “You picked a hell of a crew to stick with.”
You turned your head, meeting his gaze, something unreadable in his expression.
“Could be worse,” you teased, nudging his leg slightly.
He huffed a quiet laugh, shaking his head. For a second, it seemed like he might say something else—but instead, he just reached for an egg roll.
After that night, things started to shift more toward football. The usual late-night hangs became less frequent, the group chat more active with reminders about packing lists and schedules. Training camp was looming, and you could feel the weight of it, even though you weren’t the one suiting up.
One night at Ja’Marr’s, Tee stretched out on the couch, scrolling through his phone. "This is our last free weekend before camp. Y’all better soak it in.”
Quinn groaned. “Ugh. That means my social life is about to take a massive hit.”
Ja’Marr snorted. “Don’t act like we don’t have days off. We just gon be tired as hell.”
Joe wasn’t there that night—he’d taken off for a few days on his annual lake trip, something about needing to “reset.” Not that you were keeping tabs on his whereabouts or anything, but the house felt quieter without him.
Then, two nights before camp started, he walked into Ja’Marr’s house like nothing was different.
Except, everything was different.
Tee was mid-sentence when he noticed, his words dying in his throat as he squinted at Joe. “Boy, what the hell?”
Ja’Marr turned, eyes widening. "Nah. No way."
You blinked. “Did you—did you shave your head?”
Joe barely reacted, setting his keys down like this was any other day. “Yeah.”
“And bleach it?” Quinn added in, looking intrigued...and a little scared.
“Yep.”
Tee leaned forward, inspecting him like he was some rare species. “You look like a villain in a Fast & Furious movie.”
Joe smirked, rubbing a hand over his buzzed, bleach-blond head. “Perfect.”
Ja’Marr was still in shock. “Bro, what possessed you?”
Joe shrugged, completely unbothered. “Felt like it.”
You tried to stifle a laugh, shaking your head. Of course. The most dramatic change of the offseason, and he acted like it was nothing.
Quinn tilted her head, appraising him. “You know what? I don’t hate it.”
Ja’Marr ran a hand down his face, groaning. “Man, now we gotta deal with this version of Joe all season.”
Joe just grinned, casually grabbing a side salad off the counter like he hadn’t just broken everyone’s brains. Training camp hadn’t even started yet, and he was already causing chaos.
Quinn, Tee, and Ja’Marr burst out laughing, looking at each other with wide grins. "Hold up—do y'all realize what this means?" Tee pointed between them. "We all got buzzcuts now."
Ja’Marr gasped, nodding. "Oh, it’s a sign. We're about to be in sync this season. Chemistry off the charts."
Quinn snorted. "What, like you're the bald-headed Avengers?"
Tee clapped his hands. "Nah, we’re like…an Olympic relay team. Faster, stronger, better communication."
Joe shook his head, amused. "You guys are ridiculous."
"You say that now, but just wait," Ja’Marr said, stroking his chin like he was cooking up a master plan. "I'm over here manifesting greatness."
Joe just rolled his eyes, taking a bite of his food, but then he caught your expression. You were dying to say something. "Go ahead, tell me what you really think. I've heard a few. Cody Rhodes, Eminem..."
"I was gonna say a more attractive version of Jonah Hill in the 21 Jump Street flashback scenes."
Tee and Ja’Marr lost it. Ja’Marr literally had to grab the counter for support, and Tee was staggering away, gasping between wheezes. "Bro, I can see it!"
Joe stared at you, lips pressing together like he was physically restraining himself from laughing. "That’s just hurtful."
"You asked." You bit back a grin.
The chaos continued around you, but somehow, it ended up just the two of you standing there as the others got distracted by something else.
You hesitated. You shouldn’t ask. But you did.
"Why did you do it?" You tried to sound casual. "Your hair looked fine—I mean, more than fine—but… why?"
Joe leaned against the counter, arms crossing over his chest. His lips twitched like he was about to say something stupid. Then—
"I want frosted tips."
You blinked. "Excuse me?"
"And I’ve never seen anyone actually look good when they just go get them, so I’m doing it the natural way."
You just stared at him. "Joe. This is the most insane way to get blond highlights, and you know it."
"Sorry you feel that way," he said, totally unbothered. "But I don’t do things halfway. Go big or go home."
He said it so casually, but the way he was looking at you? That was dangerous. The kind of look that made the room feel a little too warm, made your stomach do an annoying little flip. His icy blue eyes held yours just a second too long—long enough for you to realize that you should run for your life.
Because if you stayed here any longer, you might have to admit that you were developing a teeny, tiny, completely inconvenient crush on Joe Burrow.
August
Having a crush as an adult kind of feels like you're having a heart attack. You could be completely fine one second and then suddenly your entire being was consumed with thoughts of him so vivid it made your chest hurt.
The first preseason game was finally here, giving you the perfect excuse to focus on literally anything else. Your first tailgate was an experience, that morning of the game was by far the busiest day you'd ever experienced. Pre-orders were being picked up left and right, mini pies and cheesecakes were snatched off the shelves before 11am and the only thing that remained by the time all of you left the shop at 2pm was a lone batch of cupcakes that you ended up giving away for free at the stadium. It was easy promo.
Paycor Stadium felt like magic. A chaotic, slightly unhinged kind of magic. Fans were everywhere—some already drunk, all of them decked out in orange, fully prepared to dedicate their mental health to a 53-man roster for the next several months. You just wanted to see your friends do what they loved—well, at least two of them, since Ja’Marr was in the middle of a holdout. Or, technically, a hold-in, since he was still around the building but not practicing. You were still trying to grasp the nuances of contract negotiations, and honestly, you needed a few more Bengals 101 cramming sessions to feel more confident in your abilities to explain the situation, if anyone were to ask.
Time slowed when Joe stepped onto the field. And the stadium erupted when he threw a touchdown to none other than Tee. You swore you saw a couple of fans crying, which was kind of heartwarming but also a little funny, considering they didn’t know him personally.
Joe hadn’t talked much about his wrist injury or the recovery process after surgery, and you never wanted to pry. You figured he’d open up when he was ready. But as you watched him out there, commanding the field like nothing had ever been wrong, you couldn’t help but wonder if it had been as easy as he made it look.
He commanded the field like he commanded every room he entered. You met up with him, Ja'Marr, Tee, Quinn and a bunch of his friends from Athens along with his family to gather at his house, not only because it was the beginning of the season, but it was also a new beginning for him post surgery. The celebration was on, laughter and quiet music filling every corner of the house. You couldn't really hear it, but it had to be from Joe's never ending playlist filled with Gunna and Kid Cudi songs. People drifted in and out of conversations, drinks in hand, taking in the importance of indulging in the calm before the storm of the regular season.
At some point, you found yourself in the kitchen, away from the noise, refilling your drink. You weren’t alone for long.
Joe lingered in the doorway for a second before stepping into the kitchen, leaning against the counter beside you. His presence was quiet but steady, like he was still deciding if he wanted to speak.
For a moment, the two of you stood next to each other silently. You were perfectly happy listening to the muffled sounds of the party happening in the next room. Then, finally, he exhaled, his voice low enough that it almost got lost in the noise.
“I um—I cried last night.”
You turned to him, startled by the sudden confession. His gaze stayed on the counter, fingers idly tracing the grain of the wood.
“There were nights when I thought I wouldn’t make it back here,” he admitted. “Like, really about thought it. More than I ever have before.” He swallowed hard, jaw tightening for a second before he let out a humorless laugh. “I’ve never been afraid of failure. Not really. But this time… it was different.”
You could only imagine what that felt like—to have the thing you built your whole life around suddenly feel uncertain. To sit in the unknown and not be able to do anything but wait.
“I don’t know what to say,” you admitted softly, shifting so you were fully facing him. “I can’t even imagine what that must’ve been like for you.” You hesitated, searching for the right words. “But I do know I’m glad you’re here. That you made it through. And that I get to see you come out on the other side of it.”
Joe finally looked at you then, really looked at you, and for the first time that night, the tension in his shoulders seemed to ease.
Before you could stop yourself, you sighed, "I think about failure all the time."
His brows furrowed slightly. “What do you mean?”
You glanced down, running your thumb over the rim of your glass. “Every single day at the bakery feels like a risk. Like one wrong move, one slow month, and it all comes crashing down. I try not to let it eat me alive, but it’s always there in the back of my mind.” You huffed out a quiet laugh. “Every day is either a risk or a victory. Some days, it’s both.”
Joe was quiet for a moment before he nodded. “Yeah,” he said, almost to himself. “I get that.”
And you knew he did. Probably more than anyone else. Maybe that was the thing about him—he understood the weight of expectations, the pressure of something you love being both the best and hardest thing in your life.
The party carried on around you, but the two of you stayed there, in the quiet.
Joe wasn’t sure when it started, but sometime after the day he met you, he’d found himself wanting to be near you. To talk to you. To hear what you had to say.
Now, standing here, watching the way your eyes softened when you spoke, he realized something that both excited and terrified him.
He liked you. He really liked you.
And when you smiled at him—soft, understanding, like you really saw him—something in his chest tightened. He was absolutely fucked. And he knew it.
The day after his ill-timed epiphany, he had to figure out a way to see you, without making it completely obvious that he wanted to see you. So he did the one thing he could think of.
"THE Joe Burrow, gracing my humble bakery with his presence?" You place a hand over your heart in mock surprise. "Did hell actually freeze over? Or did you finally crack under the pressure of living a sugar-free life?"
The quarterback looks around and shrugs, "told my parents about this place and I wanted to grab them something before they head out. What should I get? What's good here?" He laughs and you glare at him.
"Everything," Quinn interrupts before disappearing in the kitchen to go over their fall menu, "you know this."
"Well…surprise me." Joe says, when it's just you again. "You're the professional here. And I trust your opinion."
You pick out a few things, putting them in a box and handing them over to him after he tapped his phone on the tap to pay. His fingers brushed against yours on the box, just for a second. Just long enough for his slightly calloused touch to settle into your skin. He didn’t pull away immediately. Neither did you. And then, just like that, the moment passed.
Joe thanked you, turning on his heel and walking out without another glance. He told himself not to think about it. About the way your hand felt against his. About how his skin still felt warm where you’d touched him.
He spent a considerably long time staring at his palm in the car before shaking his head, gripping the wheel, and driving himself home.
September
The month came with the promise of real football. Instead, it delivered losses. Three straight. By the end of the month, they were 1-4, and the frustration was suffocating.
Losing wasn’t new to Joe—football was a game of highs and lows. But this? This felt different. This felt like clawing for air and only inhaling more water. He’d been playing pretty well but that hadn’t translated to team success so needless to say, he was frustrated.
And when Joe was frustrated, when the weight of the season pressed down on him, he did what he always did: he shut people out.
His routine became even more rigid. Early mornings. Earlier nights. Film. Practice. Ice baths. Rehab. Study. Sleep. Repeat. No distractions. No detours. Just football.
No one took it personally. Not really. This was how he was wired. How he dealt with things. But that didn’t mean you didn’t notice the way his texts became shorter, the way he started disappearing from the group chat, the way even Ja’Marr and Tee could barely get more than a few words out of him after a loss.
You weren’t even sure if stopping by was the right move. Still, you showed up at his house the day after their first win, peanut butter oat cups in hand and a ton of nerves in your stomach. You just…wanted—no needed to see him. To lay eyes on him and know he was okay.
Joe opened the door a few moments later, looking like a guy carrying a losing record on his shoulders. His hoodie was slightly wrinkled, his hair, which had already grown out tremendously, was still damp from a shower, and there was something unshakably tired about the way he stood.
But when he saw you, his posture relaxed just a little.
“Hey,” he said, voice low.
“Hey.” You offered a small smile, holding out the box. “Figured you’d be on lockdown mode, so I won’t keep you. Just wanted to drop these off.”
His lips twitched like he was debating whether or not to smile. “You didn’t have to do that.”
“I know.” You shrugged. “But I did.”
Joe exhaled, running a hand over his face before glancing down at the box in his hand with a small smile. You were definitely going to consider this a win.
You let the silence settle between you for a moment before finally saying, “I know this is my first season actually paying attention to all this, but…I do know one thing.”
He looked at you then, a softer expression on his face as he shifted his weight from one foot to another.
“This season isn’t over,” you said firmly. “Not even close. I know you well enough to know you won't just give up without a fight.”
Joe swallowed hard, slowly nodding his head. He didn’t respond right away, but you didn’t need him to. Instead, you reached out, placing a hand on his shoulder—just for a second, just to ground him.
“I’ll let you do your thing,” you murmured. “I just needed to see you for myself.”
Something flickered in his expression, something almost vulnerable, but before you could place it, he sighed, releasing a significant amount of tension in his muscles.
“Come on,” he said, closing the door behind him. “I’ll walk you out.”
The morning air was cool as the two of you walked in quiet steps toward your car. When you reached the door, you turned to say goodbye, but before you could, Joe pulled you into a hug.
It caught you off guard at first, the warmth of him, the way he held onto you like he needed this moment more than he was willing to say.
And then you felt it.
The steady, rapid beat of his heart against your chest.
You weren’t sure what it meant. If he even realized how much he was giving away just by standing here, holding you like this. And as much as you wanted to say something—to push—you got in your car holding back a smile.
October
The guys were riding on a high after beating the Giants, allowing themselves to celebrate for a total of...four hours.
By the time Joe made his way to Ja’Marr’s place, the energy in the house was still buzzing. Most of the guests had gone home and it was just the core four cleaning up in the kitchen, while others made their way in and out of the house. For once, nobody was sulking over film breakdowns or injury reports. It was rare for Joe to show up to things like this—especially in-season—but a win after weeks of frustration made it easier to step outside his routine, even if only for a little while.
He kept to himself for the most part, sitting back and listening while his receivers talked over each other about plays, what went right and what they could’ve done better. But the conversation took a sharp turn when Quinn, comfortably stretched out on the couch with a glass of wine in hand, looked up and announced, “Oh, by the way, I got her on dating apps.”
Silence.
Then all hell broke loose.
“Wait, what?” Tee sat up so fast he almost knocked over his drink. “Are you serious?”
“Like, for real?” Ja’Marr leaned forward, grinning. “Ain’t no way.”
“Oh, I’m very serious,” Quinn smirked, pulling out her phone. “Took some convincing, but she finally caved. And now I get to be the supportive best friend who helps her swipe.”
Ja’Marr rubbed his hands together. “Hand it over. We gotta see this. Make sure ain’t no weirdos on there. Last thing I need is for you to end up on some true crime Netflix special.”
Joe stayed quiet, gripping the neck of his water bottle a little too tightly as you handed them Quinn your phone and she pulled up the profile. Tee and Ja’Marr crowded around, making dramatic noises every time they scrolled past a new guy.
“Absolutely not,” Tee muttered, swiping left.
“Oh, hell no.” Ja’Marr swiped even faster. “Why he posing like that?”
“This one’s kinda decent, though,” Quinn argued, nudging the phone toward them. “Look at him.”
Joe didn’t look. He didn’t join in on the commentary, didn’t make a joke, didn’t do anything except sit there, staring at the condensation rolling down his water bottle, wondering why there was a weird feeling sitting heavy in his chest.
It wasn’t like he had a right to feel any type of way about this. And he knew what it meant.
But that didn’t stop him from feeling it anyway no matter how hard he tried to ignore it.
Between the temperature fluctuations and the sudden boom in business, your head was spinning. The bakery had never been more popular. What had started as a hidden gem over the summer had officially become one of Cincinnati’s go-to spots. Lines stretched out the door on weekends, with customers raving about the new fall menu: cinnamon swirl snickerdoodle blondies, apple cider donuts, maple pecan scones. You barely had time to catch your breath between managing the chaos and perfecting each batch, but you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Meanwhile, the Bengals’ season remained a rollercoaster. A solid win against the Browns gave everyone a glimmer of hope, but that optimism came crashing down when the Eagles steamrolled them by twenty. After that game, no one heard from Joe. His silent rage wasn’t unusual after a loss, but it was nevertheless, felt from miles away.
The next week, they bounced back in a big way, blowing out the Raiders at home. The scoreboard said it was a dominant win, but Joe was still visibly pissed, seen on the sidelines venting to Zac Taylor about missed offensive opportunities and a shit ton of penalties that should've been avoided. The moment went viral—clips of his animated rant flooded social media, with analysts debating whether his frustration was a sign of his competitive fire or a deeper issue brewing in Cincinnati.
That night, everyone met at Jeff Ruby’s for dinner, but Joe didn’t show. To the surprise of absolutely...nobody.
Toward the end of the night, the restaurant manager approached your table with a takeout bag in hand. “This is Joe’s order,” he explained. “He called it in, but something came up. He asked me to give it to you, is that okay?"
You hesitated for a second before nodding. “Yeah, I got it.”
It wasn’t long before you were standing outside his house, takeout bag in hand, knocking on his door. When he opened it, he looked exhausted. Not physically—no visible bruises or signs of injury—but mentally. His eyes were dull, his usual composed demeanor carrying an edge of frustration.
You gave him the bag. “Figured you should still eat.”
Joe took it with a small nod. “Thanks.”
For a second, you considered just leaving, letting him sit with whatever was weighing on him. But instead, you crossed your arms and leaned against the doorframe. “You wanna talk about it?”
He let out a slow breath, rubbing his jaw before stepping back to let you in. You followed him to the kitchen, watching as he set the bag down on the counter but didn’t open it.
“I don’t know,” he admitted, finally breaking the silence. “I just—” He sighed. “I’m playing well, but I don’t know if we as a collective have what it takes to close out games when it actually matters. We can beat shit teams, but the moment we go up against a real contender, it’s like everything falls apart. And I hate feeling like we’re right there but just not good enough.”
You nodded, understanding the weight of what he was saying. Joe wasn’t the type to be satisfied with mediocrity. He needed to win, and not just in ways that looked good on paper. At this point, to get back on track they needed to look dominant— unstoppable. Not like kids throwing together a project at the last minute because they forgot the due date.
“I get it,” you said softly. “This is your job, your career. You don’t half-ass anything, and you don’t want to settle for middle of the pack.”
Joe’s lips pressed together, his gaze flickering to yours. “Exactly.”
He ran a hand through his hair before exhaling sharply. “I’m sorry for missing dinner. Just…had a lot on my mind.”
You tilted your head, a flash of curiosity taking over. “Anything besides football?”
For a second, he was quiet, debating whether or not to answer. You could see the internal battle written all over his face, his jaw tensing and flexing as he pondered the risks of honesty.
Then, he muttered, “Fuck it.”
Your brows lifted, but before you could ask, he looked at you—really looked at you—and said, “I’ve been...thinking about you.” His voice was low, steady, but you could hear the weight behind it. “More than I want to. More than I should.”
The words knocked the air from your lungs.
You should’ve said something, but for once, you had no idea what to say. Instead, you took a step forward. Joe’s eyes tracked your movement, and when you didn’t pull away, he closed the distance. His hand brushed against your waist, his gaze flickering to your lips, leaning in ever so slightly—
“Yo, have you seen my phone charger?”
Ja’Marr’s voice shattered the moment like glass.
Joe immediately stepped back, cursing again under his breath as Ja’Marr walked into the kitchen, completely oblivious to what he had just interrupted.
Your entire face was on fire and you were sure your heart was seconds away from bursting out of your chest.
Joe looked like he wanted to murder his best friend.
November
Neither of you brought up what almost happened. Maybe because neither of you were sure it should have happened. Or maybe, deep down, you were both afraid of what it would mean if you admitted that it did.
So, instead, things carried on like normal—except they weren’t normal at all.
Joe still came by the bakery, though now he had a habit of showing up under the guise of casual excuses. Like when he walked in one morning, a familiar water bottle in hand, and placed it on the counter in front of you.
“You left this at my house,” he said, completely straight-faced. “Wanted to make sure you’re staying hydrated.”
You blinked at him, then down at the bottle—one of many you’d undoubtedly left behind at places far more inconvenient. “You drove all the way here for…this?”
Joe shrugged. “Seemed important.”
Quinn made a noise that sounded suspiciously like a laugh. You didn’t have to turn to know she was giving Joe a look—one that said she saw right through him.
Still, nothing was said.
The two of you danced around the elephant in the room for 17 days. Then came the bye week, and as fate would have it, or your own personal hell, you ended up at Joe’s house, standing side by side in his kitchen as you baked a pumpkin pie together. The whole thing came randomly, he mentioned in passing that it was his favorite and he was spending his entire bye week on the couch so naturally you came up with a solution. Nobody else was free so it just ended up being you and him. Of course.
The kitchen smelled of cinnamon, nutmeg, and warm sugar, the scent pulling you into your natural element. This was your Paycor Stadium, your stage. R&B played in the background, filling the comfortable silence as Joe rolled out the pie dough with slow, concentrated movements. The counter was dusted with flour, the remnants of your work scattered across the surface.
"You’re pressing too hard," you murmured, stepping in behind him. You placed your hands gently over his, guiding his movements. "You want it even, but not overworked."
Joe huffed out a breath, the warmth of his chuckle brushing against your cheek. "So what you’re saying is, I’d be terrible on a baking show?"
You grinned, your fingers brushing against his as you both worked the dough. "I’m saying, there's some room for improvement for sure."
Joe turned his head slightly, just enough for his blue eyes to catch yours, his expression hard to read but there was a certain glimmer in his gaze. You didn’t move away. Neither did he. This was how it had been for months now—a quiet understanding, an unspoken closeness that had slowly built between you. It was in the way he showed up to your bakery with your favorite coffee, the way you memorized his weekly schedule, the way he looked for you after every home game, his gaze scanning the crowd in the player guest section postgame until he found you.
The pie crust was ready now, but neither of you were ready to move to finish it.
Joe’s hands lingered under yours, his thumbs lightly grazing your knuckles. "I like this," he admitted after a moment, his voice low. "Us. Doing this."
Your breath caught in your throat. "Me too."
It wasn’t just about the pie, and you both knew it.
You helped him move the dough into the pan, your fingers brushing again, sending little shivers up your spine. The pumpkin filling sat ready in a glass bowl, waiting to be poured, but Joe seemed far more interested in you. His eyes traced over your features, cataloging every detail as if he was afraid he’d forget them.
"What?" you asked, suddenly self-conscious under his gaze.
Joe shook his head, a small smile tugging at his lips. "Nothing. Just thinking."
"About?"
He exhaled slowly, rolling his lips together as if debating what to say. Then, instead of answering, he reached out to touch you, his fingers trailing down to your jawline, resting there a smidge too long. His movements were gentle, almost hesitant, as if he was giving you the chance to pull away.
You didn’t. You couldn't.
The space between you evaporated, his lips brushing against yours in a kiss so delicate, so achingly tender, that it stole the breath from your lungs. It was slow, unhurried, as if he was trying to memorize the feel of you against him. His hands found your waist, pulling you closer, and you let yourself sink into him, fingers curling into the fabric of his hoodie. The warmth of his body, the faint scent of his cologne mixed with vanilla extract—it was intoxicating.
Joe deepened the kiss, a quiet desperation laced within it, months of lingering glances and fleeting touches culminating in this moment. You felt his hesitation fade, replaced by something raw and real, something neither of you could ignore any longer.
But then he pulled away.
And you saw it—regret, creeping into his expression before he even said the words.
“We shouldn’t have done that,” he muttered, running a hand over his face. “This was a mistake.”
A sharp, bitter laugh escaped you before you could stop it. “Are you serious?”
Joe exhaled, looking anywhere but at you. He was still standing somewhat close but his hands weren’t on you anymore, making the temperature in the room instantly feel like it had dropped 20 degrees. Even the expression on his face was a little colder than before. “I don’t want to ruin what we have.”
Your heart was pounding, anger curling hot in your chest. It was the only thing fueling you and keeping you warm. “I think it's a little too late for that. Joe, things have already changed. These past few weeks—hell, these past few months—we’ve been dancing around this. We’re not in fucking high school. Just tell me the truth.”
You took a step closer, forcing him to face you. To look at you. “Do you honestly have no feelings for me?”
Silence.
Then, finally—too quiet— “I don’t.”
You flinched like he’d slapped you.
Joe must have seen it because he let out a heavy breath and ran a hand through his hair. “I’m just—overwhelmed. The team is losing, and I’m playing the best football of my life, and I just—I can’t add another thing to my plate right now.”
You studied him for a long moment, jaw tight, hands clenched at your sides. Then, finally, you nodded.
You stared at him, waiting for him to take it back, to say something—but he didn’t. He just stood there, shoulders tense, eyes locked on the floor like he was hoping if he didn’t look at you, this would all just go away.
“You’re such a coward.”
Joe’s head snapped up, but you were already shaking your head, anger and frustration crashing into you all at once.
“You are so stuck in your own head,” you continued, voice sharp, unrelenting. “You keep everyone at arm’s length so you don’t get hurt. So you don’t have to admit that you actually feel things like a normal human being. You’re not some heartless football machine, Joe. You don’t have to live, breathe, and die this sport 24/7 to be fulfilled.”
You took a step forward, forcing him to face you, forcing him to hear you. “And you can stand there and act like this isn’t real, like there’s nothing between us, but I know there is. And you do too. Maybe it’s new, maybe it’s always been there, but I’m not stupid. At least I didn’t think I was.”
Joe’s jaw tightened, but he still said nothing.
And that? That pissed you off even more.
You scoffed, blinking away the sting in your eyes as you turned on your heel, grabbing your things off the counter. “If you want to pretend none of this is real, then fine. I won’t fight you on it.”
Joe didn’t move. He didn’t stop you.
You lingered for half a second, hoping—praying—that he’d snap out of it. That he’d reach for you, say your name, give you anything.
But all he did was stand there, motionless, watching you go.
You exhaled sharply, shaking your head one last time before you reached for the door.
“Don’t burn my pie,” you muttered, then stepped outside, slamming the door shut behind you.
December
Joe told himself, over and over, that he’d made the right decision.
That pulling away had been necessary. That it was better this way.
But as the weeks passed, the reality of it settled in like a dull, persistent ache in his chest. The group dynamic wasn’t the same anymore. Quinn was firmly on your side, and Tee and Ja’Marr were caught in the middle, trying their best to act like everything was normal when it clearly wasn’t.
You only hung out with them if Joe wasn’t going to be there, and eventually, he stopped showing up altogether. Left the group chat, too, because what was the point?
So, yeah. He told himself this was what he wanted. That it was for the best.
Then one day, the night before his birthday while the Bengals were in Dallas, his house was broken into.
It was everywhere. The footage of the smashed window. The grainy security cam stills of showing the inside of his house. The headlines dissecting every detail—what was stolen, how much damage was done.
For a second—just a fleeting, stupid second—he thought maybe you’d reach out.
But you didn’t.
And why would you? It wasn’t your place anymore.
You were moving on. Meeting new people.
Like Cory.
Sweet, mature, honest-about-his-feelings Cory.
More than Joe could say for himself.
Joe wasn’t trying to eavesdrop.
At all, really.
But when he overheard Tee and Ja’Marr talking about you, about how you’d been going on several dates with some guy named Cory, he couldn’t help but listen.
“Seems like a good dude,” Tee said, scrolling through his phone. “Takes her out, treats her right.”
“She actually looks happy, too,” Ja’Marr added. “Not whatever the fuck that was with Joe.”
Joe rolled his eyes, slamming his locker shut. “The hell is that supposed to mean?”
Ja’Marr turned to him, unimpressed. “It means you fumbled, bro.”
Tee nodded. “Big time.”
Joe exhaled sharply, rubbing a hand over his jaw. He wasn’t in the mood for this. But they weren’t letting it go, so he told them. Everything. The kiss, the fight, the way he let you walk away because he was too caught up in his own head to admit how he really felt.
By the time he finished, Tee and Ja’Marr were looking at him like he was the dumbest man alive.
“You fumbled twice,” Tee corrected.
“She’s moving on,” Ja’Marr added. “And from the sound of it, dude’s actually putting in effort. You had your chance.”
Joe didn’t respond, just sat there, feeling more irritated by the second. He told himself he didn’t care.
The restaurant was dimly lit, the soft hum of jazz playing in the background as you swirled the last bit of your wine in the glass. Across from you, Cory was smiling, eyes warm and excited in a way that made you feel a little guilty. He was sweet, thoughtful, and easy to be around. The kind of man that you bring home to your parents and settle down with. But that was the problem, wasn’t it? He was easy. There was no tension, no unsaid words, no history thick enough to make the world stand completely still for a minute.
You were on your fifth date now, and even though you liked him, you knew deep down you weren’t feeling it the way you were supposed to.
“I, uh—I actually got something for you,” Cory said, reaching into his jacket pocket. “Well, it’s more of a surprise, really.”
You set your glass down, watching as he pulled out a sleek envelope and slid it across the table toward you. “Go on, open it.”
You hesitated before peeling it open, your heart practically stopping when you saw what was inside. Two tickets to the game—Bengals vs. Broncos. A must-win. And VIP passes for the postgame meet-and-greet.
You felt like the wind had been knocked out of you.
“I wasn't snooping in your house or anything but I did see a Bengals cup in your cabinet the other day. But you never really said anything about being a fan?” Cory said, clearly proud of himself. “i don't know, I figured you might like it. And hey, you can finally meet some of the players.”
Your stomach twisted painfully. You swallowed down the instinct to refuse, to make up an excuse, to say absolutely the fuck not. But what reason did you have? To Cory, there was nothing complicated about this—just a thoughtful gift for someone he was getting to know.
You forced a smile, hoping it didn’t look as fake as it felt. “Wow, Cory. This is...really sweet of you.”
“So, you’ll come?” he asked, his grin widening.
You nodded, the weight of your own decision pressing against your chest. “Yeah,” you said, voice quieter than you meant it to be. “I’ll go.”
And just like that, you sealed your fate.
Admittedly, it was their best game of the season. A win in OT, a Tee touchdown to keep their playoff hopes alive, and all the players riding on a high of a multiple game win streak. A month ago, you would've been celebrating right along with them. But tonight you really needed to get through this meet and greet without throwing up. And without blowing your cover. If nothing else, this was Cory's opportunity to have a once in a lifetime experience and the last thing you wanted to do is ruin that.
And then you saw him.
And Joe saw you with...him.
He saw how the guy next to you couldn’t wait to shake his hand—Joe thought it was a joke. Thought maybe this was some kind of sick cosmic punishment for all the terrible decisions he’d made in the last few months.
You looked good, unfairly good in your jacket and Bengals beanie, one that Tee had given you and Joe felt his irritation morph into something else entirely.
You weren’t even looking at him.
Cory, meanwhile, was beaming. “Man, it’s so cool to meet you. You played great tonight.”
Joe barely managed a nod, jaw tight.
Cory didn’t seem to notice the tension thickening the air, but you did.
And when your eyes finally met Joe’s, there was something there—something that made his pulse jump—before you quickly looked away.
Yeah. Joe was pissed.
The moment Cory got distracted meeting some of the other players, shaking hands and taking pictures, Joe saw his chance. He stepped toward you, lowering his voice.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
You scoffed, folding your arms over your chest. “Attending a football game, in the city I live in. Apparently that's a crime now.”
“That’s not what I mean.”
“Then be more specific," you bite out.
Joe exhaled sharply, running a hand through his damp hair. “Him? This?” He gestured vaguely in Cory’s direction. “Really?”
Your expression hardened. “Yes, really. He’s kind, honest, actually says what he feels instead of hiding behind excuses and—” You stopped yourself, shaking your head. “You know what? No. I don’t owe you an explanation. I don't owe you shit.”
Joe clenched his jaw. “So that’s it? You’re just—what? Moving on like none of it mattered?”
“Oh, now you want to talk about it?” You whisper yell. “You didn't have anything for me when I asked you, remember? All you could do was look at the floor like a freaking idiot. It was crickets and now you have the nerve to ask me what this is? You don’t get to do this, Joe. You don’t get to push me away, call me a mistake, then act like you suddenly care when you see me with someone else.”
He stepped closer, voice low and tense. “You know damn well I care.”
You swallowed, blinking up at him, and for a second—just a second—Joe thought you might let your guard down. That you might admit there was still something there.
But then you shook your head. “If you actually cared, we wouldn’t be having this conversation here. We actually wouldn't be having this conversation at all. I would've been here, with you. Not looking for pieces of you in another guy, a perfectly nice guy who just wanted to meet the freaking Bengals today. So if you don't mind, I'm gonna go meet Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase...for the first time.”
Joe didn’t know what to say to that.
So you left him standing there, walking back toward Cory with a smile, pulling him in for a hug like Joe wasn’t just barely holding himself together.
January
Exactly seven days later, while Cory was over watching the game with you, Joe took a hit and stayed down. This time you were hanging on by a thread, on the inside. On the outside, you shoved some popcorn in your mouth and sipped on ginger ale, hoping the bubbles would bring your heart back to its rightful place instead of where it currently resided...in your stomach. You didn't know if he had a concussion but he definitely looked out of it, missing throws he usually made and the Bengals escaped Pittsburg by the skin of their teeth, securing a two point win on the road, their destiny up to chance. Ja'Marr called you in the locker room after the game to tell you he needed you at the watch party for good luck in praying on the Dolphins and the Broncos downfall. You told him you'd think about it, part of you didn't mind being in the same room as Joe, especially after you caved and watched his postgame press conference to make sure he wasn't lying about being concussed. Maybe the two of you could be cordial with each other and leave the past behind.
You woke up on the couch with NFL Network still on tv. Something about it felt embarrassing, because it felt right. Months ago you were watching an introduction to football PowerPoint and now you'd regularly catch yourself having football withdrawals. Just as you were ready to call it a night, turning off the tv and mentally preparing yourself to head to your room, you heard a knock at the door. Who could possibly be coming over at 2 in the morning?
You stood frozen in the doorway, gripping the edge of the door like it was the only thing keeping you upright. Your stomach dropped—hard and fast—like missing a step in the dark. Joe was standing there, still in the clothes you had seen him wearing during in his postgame press conference. His hair was a mess, the shadows under his eyes deeper than usual. He looked exhausted. But that wasn’t what made your breath hitch. It was him. Here. Now. After all this time.
“Joe.” Your voice was barely above a whisper. “What are you doing?”
He exhaled heavily, a far away look in his eyes. “I don’t know.”
You crossed your arms, trying to steel yourself, ignoring the way your pulse was racing. “You don’t know? What do you mean you don't know? You just drove around after you landed and magically ended up here?”
“I don't know, I just—I couldn’t go home. Not without seeing you.” He swallowed hard, eyes flickering over your face like he was searching for something, anything that might give him an answer. “I know I shouldn’t be here, but when I got on the plane, all I could think about was you.”
Your heart clenched painfully. Damn him.
“You scared the hell out of me tonight,” you admitted before you could stop yourself. “Watching you go down like that—” You shook your head, gripping the fabric of your hoodie. “I hated it.”
His eyes softened, a flicker of something unspoken passing between you. “I know. Can we just—can I come in?”
You stared at each other, the weight of everything unsaid pressing in around you.
“Joe.” You sighed, your resolve crumbling at the sight of him standing there like that, like he wasn’t sure you’d let him in.
“Please,” he said, voice barely above a whisper. “Just for a minute.”
And against your better judgment, you stepped aside.
Joe ran a hand over his face and took a shaky breath. “I don’t even know what the fuck I was thinking on that play, the pocket collapsed so fast I didn't even have time to throw the ball away. And when I hit the ground, all I could think about was you.” He let out a dry laugh, shaking his head. “Not football, not the game, not the playoffs. You. And how I’d fucked everything up so badly that you wouldn’t even reach out. That I wouldn’t get a chance to apologize.”
Your throat tightened, but you forced yourself to keep your expression unreadable.
“I’m so, so sorry. I was a coward,” Joe admitted, his voice breaking. “I am a coward. I’ve spent my whole life trying to be in control—of my game, my career, my emotions. It's kind of my thing. And you…” He exhaled sharply, shaking his head. “You fuck all of that up for me. The way I feel about you scares the living shit out of me.”
You blinked, stunned into silence.
“I’m not some heartless football robot,” he continued, his voice raw with emotion. “I’m a man who’s been terrified to feel anything real because it means I can’t control it. And when I’m with you, it’s real. It’s been real for months, and you were right. About everything. I was too much of a fucking idiot to admit it.”
Your heart was pounding, your breath shallow. You wanted to believe him—God, you did—but you couldn’t just let him walk back into your life like he hadn’t wrecked you before.
“I need you to give me a chance to fix this,” Joe pleaded, his voice barely above a whisper now. “Please.”
You swallowed hard. “Joe…”
“I swear to you,” he interrupted, stepping closer, his hands almost reaching for you before he forced himself to stop. “I promise, I will prove to you that I’m not that coward anymore. Just… just say you’ll let me try.”
You studied him carefully, searching for any sign of doubt, any hesitation. But there was none. Only raw, unfiltered desperation and a kind of vulnerability you had never seen from him before.
Your walls were still up, but something inside you cracked. Just a little.
“You have to earn me this time,” you whispered.
Joe nodded instantly. “I will.”
After a hard conversation with Cory in the morning, you decided to attend the watch party the next day to test the waters. And to see your friends all in one place again. The atmosphere in Joe's house had shifted from tense to comfortable, a soft kind of warmth that had been missing for a while. The room was still, save for the quiet hum of the television, which was showing the Broncos slowly dismantling the Chiefs, much to the frustration of everyone else in the room. Joe had been quiet for the most part, lost in his thoughts, but you could tell he had already come to terms with the inevitable.
You weren’t sure if you should be relieved or sad about the Bengals missing the playoffs, but you did know one thing: it didn’t feel like the end for you and Joe. Not anymore.
The room had cleared out, the others heading to their respective homes after the game, leaving you and Joe alone. The snow outside had started to fall heavier now, creating a peaceful stillness that you couldn’t help but love. Joe seemed to notice the shift in the air as well, his eyes softening as he glanced over at you.
“You okay?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. His concern was still there like that first night he found you outside the housewarming party, that need to take care of you even now.
You nodded, even though there was a part of you that was more uncertain than you wanted to admit. “Yeah. Just…just thinking.”
He leaned back against the couch, eyes flicking to the window as the snowflakes danced in the cold air. “You want me to drive you home? It’s getting pretty bad out there. Or, you could stay? Only if you want to."
You hesitated for a second, a small part of you wanting to avoid the drive, to stay with him just a little longer. Maybe it was the way he looked at you—like he was sure this time. Like there was no more running. “I think…I think I want to stay,” you said quietly, meeting his gaze.
Joe didn’t need any more convincing. He pulled you in close to him on the couch, his arm wrapping around your shoulders as he let out a slow sigh. “I’m really gonna miss football," he murmured. “But I’ve got a lot of work to do with you, so I guess I’ve got some time now. I messed up before. I’m not messing this up again.”
You smiled, the weight of the past few weeks lifting off your shoulders just by being close to him. “I can’t wait to put you to work, 6am at the bakery tomorrow morning. And the next few mornings. For a while.” you teased, your voice barely audible.
Joe’s eyes darkened for a moment, a quiet promise in his gaze. He cupped your face gently, leaning in with a tenderness that took you by surprise. When his lips met yours, it was slow, deliberate, as if he was savoring the moment. A kiss full of unspoken apologies, solidifying what was to come, and the quiet declaration that he was willing to do whatever it took to make things right between the two of you. Even if some of that ended up with him getting covered in flour for the foreseeable future.
You didn’t pull away. In fact, you melted into the kiss, your heart swelling in your chest as his hands slid to the back of your neck, holding you in place like you were exactly where you belonged.
He pressed one more slow kiss to your lips before his eyes flicked to yours, searching. “So… does this mean our friendship over?” His voice was low, careful, but there was something else there—hope, maybe.
You didn’t even have to think about it. You let out a small, breathy laugh, shaking your head and running your fingers through his hair. “Absolutely. It’s dead and gone.”
Joe exhaled a soft chuckle, shaking his head before reaching for you, fingers curling gently around your wrist. “Good,” he murmured, tugging you closer. “Because I really didn’t want to be your friend anyway. Got much bigger plans in mind.”

Your anatomy scan was in two weeks and the little baby bean was doing well at 18 weeks.
This sugar drink from Hell was just nasty though, oh the things you do for love. You laid a hand over your bump, now a sizable little thing.
It was so cute, even though the bean inside it had caused you so much sickness.
You sipped more of the nasty glucose drink, grimacing the whole time. Finishing this horrible thing in 15 minutes seemed like such a chore.
Screw it, you threw it back like a shot and chugged it.
Ugh, you nearly puked from the taste and the texture but managed to hold it down as you wiped your mouth.
Tossing that bottle into the trash felt like victory.
You couldn’t even drink some water after all that.
What were you going to do for 30 minutes?
Well, you had lots of practice in just staring into space these days.
A memory swallowed you, bringing you back to happier days.
**
“Caleb?”
“Yes sweet girl?”
“Do you think we could play a game?”
“Sure what do you want to play?”
You scrunch your nose before clapping with glee.
“Oh! Can we play truth or dare?”
Caleb laughs before settling down on the couch next to you, pulling on the end of your nose.
“What, you didn’t play that enough in high school pipsqueak?”
“No! I mean I did but you never let us play it together when we were young. You always found some way to deflect.” You pouted a bit but fascination overcame you as you watched the tips of his ears turn pink.
“Well,” he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, “I couldn’t exactly play it and risk my feelings for you coming out. My friends weren’t exactly kind enough to not dare me to kiss you or some shit like that.”
“Ha! So the truth comes to light!”
He digs his fingers into your waist, making you squeak because it was ticklish.
“And what about it?”
“Can we play now though?”
“Sure squeaks.”
You tap your chin before holding your finger up as if an important thought came to mind.
“I dare you to kiss me!”
“Really? That’s what you use your dare on? I would’ve done that without a dare.” He scoffs and kisses you, holding your chin as he bites your bottom lip a bit before pulling away.
“I’m going to ease you into it!”
“Well I’m not! I dare you to go to the other room and take a naughty photo then send it to my phone, I need a new wallpaper.”
“What?!” You squeak.
He uses his evol to push you up off the couch
“Hop to it squeaks!”
“You’re going to regret that!” You say this as you stomp to the bedroom, you’re going to make his dick so hard that he’ll beg you for release.
**
30 minutes passed as you escaped to your memories. Tears leaking out a bit as the image of Caleb was seared into your mind.
“Hey.”
This jolts you out of your daydream, you sit up jerkily as your legs had fallen asleep. Rubbing your eyes and face to get rid of the evidence, you look towards the speaker.
It’s Zayne, he looks at you with concern.
“Is something wrong? Why are you waiting here?”
“Oh,” you laugh a bit, “I’m fine, just waiting on my glucose test.”
“Oh, have you gotten your blood drawn yet?”
“No, I need to go do that now. Thank you for checking on me.”
Getting up to leave, he stops you before glancing away, not wanting to meet your eyes as he asks
“Can I take you to dinner?”
This instantly brings back the memory of him asking you to marry him almost two weeks ago. You didn’t think it was a good idea, way too soon to think about marriage and not fair to Zayne at all.
“Zayne, maybe that’s not a-“
“I just want to take you to dinner. If it happens to show you that I could be a good choice, that’s great. But I really just want to make sure you’re okay. You’re my friend after all.”
Oh, well that deflates your argument. He’s right, he’s your friend first and you had shut everyone else out.
Maybe going out for once could be good. Get some actual food for the baby instead of a protein bar and a banana.
“Ok, I’ll go to dinner with you. I just have to go get my blood drawn and we can go.” You glance down at your outfit, right. “I’m not really dressed for anything fancy.”
“Don’t worry about that.” He waves his hand “Go finish the test.”
Right, you walk to the lab and finish the test without issue.
Walking back, he’s already clocked out and waiting for you.
“Where are we going?”
“Somewhere we can get you a nutritious meal, I have my doubts on how well you are eating at home.”
“Hey! I have a basket right by my bed full of things that I made sure are acceptable foods for the baby.”
“By the bed…”
Oh, you had just given away a small piece of what life had been like for you lately. Too late to take it back now.
Getting into his car and sitting in silence was so awkward. But finding something to talk about to fill the silence was like trying to scale a mountain in the snow.
You didn’t have the energy to waste on small talk these days.
He pulled up in front of a small restaurant surrounded by ivy, kept warm by glass barriers from the winter weather.
He held your door open for you and offered a hand.
You took it, thankful, getting out by yourself even at this early stage of pregnancy was awkward. Getting out of your deep and comfy chair at home was like competing in a triathlon. Zayne didn’t need to know that though.
You and he were seated relatively quickly with menus at a small table in the corner. Which gave you an immediate distraction from his intense gaze.
“Have you seen a therapist?”
“Why are you asking me that all of a sudden?” You glance at his serious face over the menu.
“I should think that the reason would be obvious.” Now holding his hands out with all his fingertips spread out and touching, he leans against them, only his eyes visible.
“No I haven’t.”
“I think you should, it would be beneficial for you and for your baby.”
“I know, my OB gave me some information on therapists and social workers that I could reach out to if I choose to.”
“But you haven’t.” He states this as if it affects him and not you.
“No, now stopping bugging me about it.”
He sighs before laying a hand on yours, the warmth of another’s touch leaving you a bit breathless after not touching anyone in almost a month.
“I’m worried for you, I care about you. Doesn’t that mean anything to you?”
“Zayne, I… I really can’t think about you in that way right now.”
“That’s not my intention right now. My objective is purely to make sure you are alright, as a friend. If I could help you by marrying you, if that’s what you needed, I would. But it’s not my focus.”
Now you felt really bad, you kept boiling him down to thinking he only wants you as his wife.
He was your friend first and foremost.
“I’m sorry Zayne. I-I will try to reach out to somebody soon ok?”
“Thank you.” He releases your hand and looks at his own menu.
You order a light meal, just some protein and a side. But it was your first real meal in weeks.
Having it next to such a good friend who cared made your heart feel a little warm.
Your baby now able to kick you a bit, leaves you feeling not quite so alone.
You end your dinner with Zayne on a higher note than you would’ve expected it to be. Holding a small box of what you couldn’t finish, you smile at him. It was small but a real genuine smile was on your face.
It lightening your countenance and a bit of that pregnancy glow finally came through.
Snowflakes started falling lightly from the sky.
Landing in your hair and eyelashes, making you look like you truly belonged in the snow.
Zayne looked at you eyes a bit wide before he raised your hand, held it to his lips, brushing against your skin as he whispered
“Goodnight.”
You pulled your hand away, it wasn’t time for that.
“Goodnight Zayne.” You drew your line in the sand.
Turning around, you headed towards that transit center, hoping you could get home before the snow got bad.
Coming home to Caleb’s empty house made you feel guilty. You hadn’t even done anything, you’d set the boundary but you still felt a bit dirty.
Zayne was wonderful but he wasn’t for you. He deserved a girl who loved him with all her heart. Who wouldn’t forever look to the stars for a love that wasn’t ever coming home.
Whose belly wasn’t swollen with the evidence of another man’s love.
But the guilt rose in your throat, choking you. You felt gasping for breath, you sat heavily on the floor next to the bed. You gulped your water bottle but the room still spun.
Caleb, Caleb grounded you.
You fumbled as you pulled your phone out, turning on the camera. Talking to him like this, it made you feel like he was still listening and here with you somehow.
So you gasped and sobbed into the camera.
“Caleb! I can’t breathe! You aren’t here with me and I feel like I’m drowning!”
Getting this out, you managed to suck a few Dee breaths in. Calming down as you imagined him on the other side.
“I went to dinner with Zayne tonight. You know he asked me to marry him? He said he wanted to help somehow….”
You laugh as the absurdity of it hits you.
“Who’d want to marry me? You didn’t, I wasn’t even your girlfriend.”
You glare at your clenched hand.
“Why do I feel so guilty? I love you so much but you’re gone so why is it eating me up?”
You look at your lap but something strange captures your eye. Your dress had ridden up and you thought you saw a flash of red.
“What in the world?”
You set the phone down, forgetting to stop recording.
“Is that blood?”
Lifting your dress, you found your suspicions to be correct, blood in between your thighs. Panic sets in as the world collapses around you.

valentines day special! <3
how you celebrate valentines day with you jjk college boyfr!
ft: k. nanami, s. gojo, t. fushiguro, s. geto, c. kamo, s. kong
cw: none; not proofread
wc: 1.3k words
a/n: happy valentines day!! i hope you spend it with your special someone or those that you love!!
k. nanami
kento is such a romantic
the whole day is curated to you and you favorite things while also tying in part of your relationship from beginning to where the two of you are now
he brings you to a nearby cafe letting you pick out whatever you like, indulging in all of the sweets of your choice
after, the two of you head to a musuem letting the day pass you by as you wander inside
your time there is spent with lots of sweet couples pictures, long gazes at the paintings (or so you think, kento can really only ever stare at you), and hand holding as you pass through the gallery
when you leave, kento brings you to the bookstore where you guys met and lets you pick out any work you want
when you get back to his apartment, he tells you just relax, put on music of your choice while he starts to cook dinner for the two of you
you offer to help but he declines so you just sit on the counter and look pretty
while eating dinner, he tells you he has one last surprise for you: a gift
a letter to you that he wrote when you first started dating and a necklace with three gems on it: your birthstone, his, and the stone of the month in which the two of you got together
his thoughtfulness never fails to bring you to tears
c. kamo
it's a bit of a learning curve with choso because you're his first girlfriend ever!
he isn't quite sure where to start so he goes to the best place he can think of to get some advice: his younger brother yuuji
yuuji advice doesn’t help him too much; all he really says is that whatever he does he should do it from the heart!
choso is stuck and doesn’t want to ruin the day for you!
you are his first-ever relationship and he doesn't want to disappoint you or make you upset
he decides to use the skill that he knows best: his artsiness and creativity
ends up making you a vase at his ceramics studio to put some flowers for you in
he specially picked the floral arrangement himself so that it would be something you would like
also makes a beautiful painting of the two of you for you to put up in your room
vakentine's day with choso is full of heartful homemade gifts that really unleash and show his creative side
the night is spent with the two of you in his dorm room admiring the gifts that he got for you and lots and lots of cuddling
he opens up to you about his worries and how nervous he was to try and find you something that you would love
you calm his worries with a kiss assuring him that anything he could have gotten you would have been perfect
s. gojo
the most annoying charming man on the planet of course has to be the most obnoxious person on the day of true love
he's so cheesy and cliche but that's why you love him
he invites you over to his frat and when you get there he makes all the pledges serenade you by singing pony by ginuwine
it makes you cringe so hard watching fraternity men try to hit the right notes but you can only imagine how hard satoru made them practice so that it would sound just right for you
after their silly performance, he takes you out to a fancy restaurant and brings out all the stops: huge steaks, champagne bottles, chocolate cakes with sparklers coming out of them
the sauce on the side of the cake is heart shaped and there's a little ring placed in the middle
you see it and shocked you look back at gojo
he reassures you that it's only a promise ring but he can't wait for the day that he can give you the real thing
after dinner he leads you to his room, the floor leading up to the bed is covered with rose petals and on the bed they spell out "i love you" in the middle of a heart
you turn back to satoru and jump in his arms to embrace him for all the stops he pulled
s. kong
valentines day with shiu is a little bit expected, but not in a bad way!
the two of you go on a drive (because of course you do)
but the place he takes you to is a little bit different this time
you end up at a barren field in his hometown, far enough away from the city that the skies are so clear that you can see the stars out
you get there right at sunset so you can watch the beautiful view
of course, shiu will always think that the sight of you is much more stunning
he can't help but stare at you the whole time as you gaze off into the distance
once the sun goes down, he opens up the trunk of his convertible and reaches in to bring a basket of food for the two of you to share
a picnic under the stars with his favorite girl, what could be better than this
at the bottom of the basket, shiu pulls out a little red velvet box
a promise ring just for you that has your favorite colored stone on it
it's beautiful and makes you tear up just a little thinking about the future of your relationship
the two of you talk for hours, reflecting on your relationship and how far the two of you have come
eventually, he brings out a blanket too for you guys to sit on the field and cuddle
the night ends with his warm embrace and a kiss to your forehead as you guys cozy up in the fields looking at the stars above
t. fushiguro
before you, he never was a big fan of the holiday
he slept around campus a lot before you, having a long string of flings but nothing ever too long-term
but being with you gives him a new outlook on the holiday
when you sleepover in his room, usually he'll bring you home a bagel after his morning run
but on valentines day it's a little different
he comes home from his run with your favorite drink to start your day and a few donuts frosted with red and pink creams shaped like hearts
"happy valentines day ma" he tells you as he presses a kiss to your lips setting the donuts to the side on your desk
the kiss deepens starting to get more and more passionate (as things usually do with toji)
but before things can go any further you hear a knock at the dorm door and toji encourages you to answer it
you walk over to open it only to be presented with a pledge holding roses and a card
the inside reads "lovely flowers for the girl i love most. happy v day"
though it isn't with verbal words, this is the first time toji says he loves you (and he says it first)
closing the door behind you, you practically pounce on that man
no need for the gym on valentines day when you have toji and his dorm bed
s. geto
on valentines day, you and geto keep it very lowkey
he's not one for huge grand gestures but it's fine you really don't mind
that doesn't mean he doesn't make an effort at all for you
he calls you to tell you that he has a surprise for you and that he'll come grab you after your class ends
when your class does end you exit and find him waiting outside for you with a bouquet of your favorite flowers
Immediately you thank him, sealing your gratitude with a kiss
he's quite sentimental so when the two of you make it back to his apartment away from campus, there are pictures of the two of you from throughout your relationship hanging all throughout the living room
standing in shock, he leads you to the kitchen counter where cake and letter sit waiting for you
he baked it of course (because he's literally perfect at making sure that it was your favorite flavor with the frosting dyed your favorite color to match
the letter is a long exclamation of his love for you explaining how he felt when you first met all the way to how you guys are now
he knows he doesn't express himself too much out loud so he wrote it to show just how much he really does love you

"I'm sorry I don't seem to be the person you're looking for." "No yeah I.. I'll keep looking. Thank you."
i have a lot of things to say about realms pangi tonight (as usual) but i'll try to keep it concise. on his grief, on his coping mechanisms, and on his healing.
pangi has already grieved pili. he's disguised it under layers of vengeful plans and cartoon-villain monologues, but he's already arrived at the final stage of grief, and all he needed was the confirmation that this pili isn't his. isn't theirs. he's come to terms with the fact that he's gone.
i want to say that he's healing, but that's not entirely true yet. there will be a period where pangi denies in that way of his--not by believing that New Pili is Old Pili, but by immediately trying to move forward. quite literally by erasing the physical remanents of their friendship, and getting ros to fill-in the book in his place. he's trying to cover the open wound by painting it before it can get the chance to close. that isn't healthy! it's going to fall apart one way or another, and he's going to have to approach it again, but more gently. he has to come to terms with the fact that pili can be a memory, even if another version of him is living and breathing. pangi has to accept that no matter how angry he is at how it all ended, how shitty pili was to him, he can still miss him. he can hold onto the memories he has of him and let ros in at the same time.
pangi, as a character, is unable to linger. he feels the need to jump from thing to thing, never giving himself the proper time to sit and process. when his worst fear is proven, when he is shown that he isn't wanted or needed somewhere--he shuts down the part of himself that was trying to be wanted and needed. his way of 'staying on top of it all' is just adding another layer. he buries it under something new, and tries to forget about it and barrel onto the next thing. it never works.
as he said, he'll keep looking. instead of accepting that the spot he's carved out for pili has gone empty, he immediately tries to find someone to fill it. he hasn't entirely accepted that nobody fits that shape, and that ros cannot fill that spot. he does not believe in coexistence. i don't think this means he's stuck in an endless cycle of trying to find something to latch onto, though. i think pangi has people who will help pull him out of this loop, and i think today he took the first steps to slow it all down.
by letting go of that residual anger surrounding his death, by accepting ros' friendship and letting himself be honest with her, by teaming up with aimsey, by getting closer with hannah and bad, by letting himself admit that pili is truly gone-- he's healing. slowly and messily, as a griever does. he's getting there. he'll never be how he once was, or look at a cornflower the same way, but he's taking the initiative to be happy again. a stranger will continue to walk the realm with the body of someone he gave everything to, someone he loved, and it will hurt. but he has people who love him just as much as he aches, and eventually that will dilute the hurt. i think it already has.
#and to conclude i’m really normal about tr pangi#i want him to heal and be loved and also i hope he's not afraid to be seen anymore and also and also and#let me know if this is obnoxious and ill add a cut. its not letting me rn#pangi#the realm smp#trsmp#cooper talks

valentines with patrick pls but it ends with patrick being miserable 🙏
Perfect
𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆: Patrick Bateman x Fem!Reader
𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘: Can love truly conquer inner demons, or does walking away become the bravest Valentine’s gift of all?
𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒: Implied smut and a lot of angst.
𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐊𝐒: [MASTERLIST]; [MY IMAGINES AND SHORT REQUESTS].
𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐑𝐄𝐂: My Darkest Days—Perfect💌
𝐀/𝐍: I want to wish everyone a happy Valentine's Day! Never stop believing in love! And thank you so much for this request because it fits my current mood a lot!💔
The more Patrick got to know you, the more he realized how pure-hearted and kind you were, literally perfect. And at some point he couldn't stand it anymore, because how could you be so perfect? Even the way you laughed was perfect and your smile was as bright as a summer day in New York. The very day the two of you met. And somehow, Bateman knew from the beginning that your presence in his life would change everything, including himself, and he was not ready or happy for that.
But the moment you opened the window in the dark room, you couldn't blame the light coming in and eliminating everything around you, because that's how things work in our world. Simple physical laws against which we are all helpless. And every single second that Patrick was thinking about why he couldn't hurt you physically or mentally, he was suffering from the stabbing pain in his chest, as if his heart was locked in the chains of molten iron.
The man was trying to find an answer that simply didn't exist.
Finally, in desperation, Bateman even considered asking you this question—what was so special about you? Besides the fact that you were just perfect for him? And maybe for the world? But every time he tried to question you, the two of you ended up lost in the fire of passion that you couldn't control, not that you really wanted to control it. Those raw, vivid emotions soon became his most addictive drug because he could finally feel himself alive. The intimacy he despised became a need he couldn't live without, and he was so damn grateful to you that you didn't see it as his weakness. You were just being yourself, accepting him as he was.
But when the woman loved a man and the man loved a woman, but in his twisted way, it couldn't be easy, even though Patrick really tried to make it work. He just knew that one day his own rage would take over and he'd kill you—never in his life did he feel so disgusted than when he imagined your blood on his hands. And it was weird as hell.
"...and we are going to have a little kitten," you murmured, sitting next to Patrick on the warm carpet by the fireplace. "Oh God, I never asked if you even like cats..."
Trapped in his thoughts, Patrick didn't seem to notice your small talk, but when you put your head on his shoulder, he flinched a little, but didn't push you away. "I, uh, never really thought about it," he replied, looking at you. "Tell me something, darling. Are you happy here?"
With a broad smile, you giggled and hugged his arm. "Of course I am happy! Spending Valentine's Day not anywhere but in Aspen seems like a dream!"
"Dream?"
"Yes, very much like a dream," you added, glancing back at him with your doe eyes, where the fire sparks were glimmering. "I know it doesn't seem like much to you. But to me it's like a winter fairytale come true."
Bateman hummed and instinctively pecked your forehead, then your temple, until his warm lips found yours; you didn't hesitate and kissed him back, hugging his strong neck and brushing his slicked-back hair a little. There was something desperate about the way the man held you in his embrace, but you overlooked it, unable to think of anything but the heat radiating from his sturdy body.
"I must say, you always have the best way with words," he whispered into your neck before nipping at your sensitive skin, sending little shivers through your slightly trembling form. "And I like it."
You couldn't stop yourself from laughing when Patrick rubbed his nose against your neck and unintentionally tickled you. "Uh, Patrick!" You snickered and turned away from him. "Too many compliments from you today. Did something happen?"
Silence fell over the spacious room, only the faint ticking of the fireplace could be heard for a while before Bateman pulled you onto his lap and pressed you against his chest so you could hear his steady heartbeat—the soft material of his sweater felt so comforting you thought you were going to burst into tears from how much you loved this man.
"No, nothing happened," he finally replied, stroking the top of your head. "Just a little nervous about the main surprise I prepared for you."
"Huh?"
"After we're done with our planned events, I'd like to present it to you," Bateman cupped your face, his lips curled into that classic boy-next-door smile that always had the most charming effect on you. "So, have you ever been to the hot springs?"
Before heading out to the best springs in Colorado, not far from Aspen, the two of you made snowmen and played snowball before you decided to compete with Patrick in strength, trying to knock him down only to end up being pushed into the big pile of snow. After laughing for a while, Bateman noticed your slightly offended look, and the next thing you knew, the man turned around and fell on his back next to you, leaving you both giggling at how silly you both looked. But you didn't care because you were lying together in the snow, holding hands and looking up at the sky, which was so clean and white, as if it was covered with snow as well.
Was this even real?
Later, in Glenwood Springs, you found out that there were almost only two of you, and that privacy helped a lot when you were swimming naked in the hot springs, exhaling the white steam because the temperature around you was quite low.
Skin against skin, his eager lips on yours, drowning out all the little moans that tried to escape your trembling throat as he rubbed your swollen folds while you were both still submerged in the water. You wanted to claw at his skin, leaning on his shoulders and throwing your head back to give him more space as he kissed you here and there.
Patrick, mmhm, please, don’t stop.
The man longed to etch those words into his mind, along with the intoxicating sensation of owning you in every possible way. And if your soul could be touched, he could swear he would touch it with a tenderness he had never known before. Because finding someone with a pure soul was something so rare these days. Something almost surreal. Something Bateman secretly thirsted for, but realized too late.
When you came back to Aspen to the luxurious winter house he rented, you spent a dear hour reading The Great Gatsby and even though Patrick kept commenting on how stupid and pathetic it was of Gatsby to try to impress an arrogant bitch like Daisy, you both enjoyed the evening anyway because you could listen to him read the passages forever—his voice was the most beautiful sound you had ever heard. Still, you never really confessed it to him, thinking he would call you silly and... too romantic? Too emotional?
Emotions, emotions, emotions.
Having sex with someone doesn't mean you have feelings for them. Loving someone doesn't always mean it will last forever. Only losing someone feels like something permanent. And Patrick couldn't let that happen.
When you were busy cooking something for dinner, Bateman literally came out of nowhere, hugged you from behind, and inhaled your scent with his eyes closed. Every little detail of you mattered, every little thing—the way you exhaled in surprise, almost jumping up, and the way you were embarrassed when he slipped his hands under your top to tease your nipples, making them hard and sensitive. And as the pot slowly simmered on the small fire, you both worshipped each other, giving everything you had, until Patrick reached his limit and lifted you up only to place you on the kitchen counter, wiping everything from its surface. Almost immediately, without wasting a second, the man began to undo your pants, kneading your breasts and leaving wet trails of kisses along your belly, and when he reached your mound, he nuzzled against it and you could swear you saw his eyes shimmer, but not from fire or anything.
Were those tears?
…
You kept asking yourself the same question a month later.
How many times did you read the notebook he gave you as his "main suprise" for Valentine's Day? The gift that unintentionally broke your heart and made you doubt if you could ever fall in love again. Holding a small notebook in your hands, you opened it and traced a finger along his somewhat chaotic handwriting, then the little doodles he made, until you turned several pages and stopped on the last one, where a beautiful doodle of your little figure was drawn. And that short phrase written in the top right corner that said 'I love you', that always made you cry, but after reading it so many times now, all you felt was a void. As if everything that made you feel alive had been erased from you in the most brutal way.
Why did he leave you like this? Why couldn't he just tell you that he had met someone else? Probably someone more beautiful by today's standards. Someone he would be proud to show off in public. Why did he choose to use the fear of hurting you as an excuse? Why?
You would never believe it. It was just impossible to believe that the man who treated you like his treasure could leave you because he was afraid of hurting you, because he thought you would find someone "better", because he thought he didn't deserve you at all. Covering your face in your hands, you closed your eyes and cried, the notebook falling to your feet. But the words written inside had already left deep scars on your mind.
"...all those days when I thought about losing you, I realized that I was so selfish, thinking only of myself and never of you. So now I'm finally thinking about you, my love. Please don't cry, I hate to see you cry. And please forgive me for everything I've done. There won't be a single day that I don't think about the time we spent together. I just want you to be happy and ALIVE. With me...that wouldn't be possible. I love you...I'm sorry. I really am."
The rain fell in a steady rhythm, tapping against the windowpane like a melancholy melody. Patrick stood in the shadows, just beyond the glow of the streetlamp, his coat damp and clinging to his shoulders. From here he could see you through the frosted glass of the café, sitting alone at a corner table, a book in your hands. You looked the same, but different.
Concentrating on reading, you laughed at something in the book, and the sound carried through the glass, piercing his chest like a blade. Bateman wanted to go inside, to sit across from you and tell you everything—how he had never stopped loving you, how he had watched you from afar, how he had spent every day since he left you trying to become someone worthy of you. But he didn't move. He couldn't.
Because he knew that even now, after all this time, he still wasn't enough.

Re: Maiar having been born into slavery. I was thinking about it a lot when trying to decipher Mairon's reasons for defecting, and I offer two excerpts from a story that served me to channel those thoughts:
He thought it unfair to be thusly chained. Even the Children could choose their own destiny. Why was it only his kind that was doomed to servitude?
"Tell me, Eönwë, has it never troubled you to be naught but a glorified thrall? Forbidden to weave your dreams into a tapestry of your own vision? Forever bound to blind obeisance or else be deemed unworthy?”
Even if Diarmid is not Eönwë (and I love that theory), but just an old man who has thought of these questions a lot - maybe because he struggled with them in the past - saying "choose good every day" is no help. It's a start. But Mairon would need guidance, a very LONG guidance, because he cannot even grasp what "being good" is at that point. The sea monster put an end to any hope in that department. Whether it was the Valar, or Ossë, or just a coincidence, is something we will never know.
Anyway. If somebody is as brilliant as he probably was, and he is, for eternity, limited to doing what he's told, then the system is broken. To be *created* as a servant is wrong.
I don't excuse what he did, but I can understand how he ended up where he did.
But there's no way he could ever find the right path on his own, let alone quickly. Would any judgment in Valinor have helped? I suspect not ideally. Even if, one day, he could walk free, he would never be truly free. Because he was born to be a servant.
If anybody can think of a solution for this, it sure is not me.
ETA: On the raft, before Galadriel is sighted, he stares at the pouch. I think he thinks back on what Diarmid said, in a way. Is he sorry he didn't save him? That would stretch it too far. But there is something in that stare.
Also: not being able to find the right path alone = it's still his responsibility, not anybody else's, but he NEEDS help.
