it's impressive to me that jaime is simultaneously one of the most loved and one of the most hated characters in fandom

ehhh tbh I think it's quite typical that the most popular characters in fandom are also the most polarising, and to an extent Jaime is designed to get a mixed reaction. as ever though, there's always a difference between those who just don't care for Jaime and those who go out of their way to write bad faith analyses of his character. and i mean whatever lol, there are more egregious things than Jaime antis in the world but my god they are so boring. writing the worst meta on the Riverrun chapters that you've ever seen in your life whilst praising themselves for seeing through Jaime's redemption arc and only liking some good, upstanding child character or w/e

same ppl who say 'i LOVE brienne she's my FOURTH favourite character i NEED to PROTECT her! she deserves better than BRAIME stans!' and then they never post about her again except to say that a second, third, fourth and fifth time

some tlt genre preference conclusions

given the obvious biases inherent in tumblr polling as a method for data collection, the conclusions we can draw from even the most well formed and thorough polls (ahem ahem) are quite limited. however, if we take the reasonable assumption that the respondents of the aforementioned well-formed and thorough polls are roughly the same (that is, the respondents to poll #1 are the same as or similar to the respondents to poll #3, etc.), we can observe the following:

the outright majority (50.1%) of respondents are primarily fantasy readers

respondents' preference for fantasy (60%) over science fiction (40%) is much closer to even

(suggesting that either preference for fantasy vs science fiction is a toss-up, even for those that primarily read fantasy, or that pretty much everyone who doesn't primarily read fantasy prefers sci-fi...?)

there's an overall consensus among respondents that tlt is more science fiction (62%) than it is fantasy (38%)

but, fantasy preferring respondents were much more evenly split, with 55% indicating that tlt is sci-fi and 45% indicating that tlt is fantasy

whereas 68% of sci-fi preferring respondents indicated that tlt is sci-fi, with only 32% indicating that tlt is fantasy

(suggesting that, while people tend to think tlt is more fantasy than sci-fi regardless of what genre they personally prefer, there's also a tendency to think tlt more resembles the respondents' preferred genre)

...all of which is absolutely baffling to me as a primary sci-fi reader (& prefer-er) who feels very strongly that tlt is absolutely and unambiguously fantasy

Yes there's things I wish I could've included or that I drew different, but overall I am very happy with the product especially since I JUST learned how to properly do tweening.

I could go on a rant behind my reasoning for the art and placement of things but I am way too tired rn enjoy the video

I've been checking out the OC tags for a little while, and I can say the state of OC sharing on tumblr is in absolute misery.

We've all discussed how bad the ratio of reblogs has become, how the amount of them have been dwindling those last couple of years, but I think an extra important emphasis has to be made on original creation. Though everything is hit by the lack of sharing, fanarts at least have a tag people will look for, improving their visibility - fandom OCs are sadly shared less than fanarts, in general, but they still enjoy that same visibility.

But what of the purely original? People who have OCs belonging solely to their own world, with a tag nobody will look for? I've been seeing awesome OC art that has been sitting for days and weeks with 0 or 1 notes, sometimes 5 or 6 with luck (though most of the time only likes)... And though there are exceptions, overall, it's a frankly saddening sight.

The way for someone to get attention on their OCs is to already be a well established blog or to produce fanart on the side to build a following. Blogs solely creating original content sit at the bottom of the note pool with no escape in sight.

As much as we praise tumblr for its tagging system and the fact it doesn't kill old posts the way other social media does, it still does fail in the way of uplifting creation that isn't fandom-based.

I don't have a solution to this. It is merely a sad observation. It's only natural that people would look for what they already know and love. But in a world where all of our interactions are linked to consumerism, in a world where automation replaces human imagination, I'd love to see a community of people willing to actively search for, and uplift, the creatives that are trying to peek out of the water.

One reblog may lead to another may lead to a follow, may lead to a creator feeling like their work matters.

So I'm doing it, one reblog at a time.
