Random Details: "Home Alone"?

In Sylus' "Night of Secrecy" memory, the protaganist goes to a late night movie with him. From their conversation about it, we are given the following details:

It's an "old movie"

The movie's protaganist had a lot of fun at home

The movie's protaganist "tricked those bumbling theives"

The plot relates to "leaving people alone at home"

The movie "has a few sequels"

This is purely speculation.

Buuuut, each of those details aligns suspiciously well with the movie "Home Alone" in the following ways:

The movie was released almost 35 years ago on November 16th, 1990 (damn, I feel old af 😭), easily categorizing it as an "old movie"

Kevin (the movie's protaganist)is mistakenly left at home when his family leaves for the airport

Kevin overhears Harry and Marv (two theives) plotting to break into his house, positing it would be an easy feat to outwit one child. Kevin successfully tricks them and defends him home using various booby traps.

To date, the original 1990 film has five sequels

It is a Christmas movie and this memory story is inferred to occur in winter (there's mention of snowfall and unspecified holidays)

“i won’t cave in anymore the next time you insist on us watching a movie near midnight,” he sighed, knowing damn well that he most definitely will cave in again. you struggled opened your eyes, zayne’s gentle voice sounded like a comforting background noise as you’re hanging to the thinnest thread of awake state. “nooo,” you whined quietly, lying on his lap as you put your arms around his hand, snuggling it closer. zayne just let out another tired sigh, knowing at this point saying anything will be futile since your mind’s all hazy with sleepiness. although there’s a little smile across his lips, the thumb of his free hand stroking the spot above your ear ever-so-softly, “you can’t sleep on the couch, it’s not good for your back,” he whispered, planting a small kiss on your eyelid. “sshhh, naggy zayne.” you frowned slightly while the smile on his lips was an inch wider.

seeing that you’re probably not going to wake up anymore anytime soon he just put a blanket (that he secretly put near the couch on movie nights) over you. once he made sure it had covered you all the way to your toes he leaned back, getting comfortable. another sleep on the couch it is then he thought, a smile still ghosting over his lips.

“roles reversed, it seemed like.” xavier smiled as he stared at you adoringly. you both were currently sharing a rainy cozy evening with a card game before drowsiness hit you. “’m not sleepy,” you mumbled, forcing yourself to be awake as you leaned on his shoulder, your eyes felt terribly heavy. “i didn’t say you are,” the man beside you replied calmly, resting his head on top of yours. “your turn, xavi.” you mumbled the quietest voice. he smiled and shook his head slowly.

“it’s been your turn for the last ten minutes baby, but you keep dozing off.” his finger drawing random patterns on your thigh, and it just felt blissful. “really? lies.” you managed to say, already giving up to stay awake as you closed your eyes. xavier just watched you lovingly, as he kissed the side of your head. “alright, let’s get you to bed. i could use a nap myself.”

“i turned my back for 5 seconds and you’re already off to dreamland,” he said, crossing his arms. you blinked a few times; the urge to sleep still consumed you. “spare me please, i’ve run around fighting so many wanderers today,” you replied, resting your head on the loveseat headrest. “figured, considering you made me wait 800 years for you to come here,” rafayel grumbled, taking your hand in his. you narrowed your eyes at his theatrics, “it’s more like one hour, but you know, details.” you rolled your eyes playfully.

despite all his complaints he brought you close to his chest, “as punishment, you’ll listen to me explaining how to get the perfect sage green color,” he said and he rambled on. you chuckled a little, you knew that he knew you loved listening to him as he spoke so gently, stroking the ends of your hair strands, lulling you into a deeper sleeping state. once he made sure you’re completely out he just smiled, perhaps if what’s on the end of the line was a day he could see you sleep so peacefully in his arms again, he won’t mind waiting for another 800 years.

Been playing Love and Deepspace for the past few days and here's my take on this.....

Content warning though, it's gonna be a long post! And this is just coming from someone who only played the game a few days ago so this is just my first impression!

Let me just say this, algorithm...

It's your fault for making me download the game.

You knew I like hot attractive fictional men. You knew I like bratty boyfailures. You knew I like older, stoic yet kind men. You knew I like mysterious softboys.

YOU KNEW.

So you bombarded me with L&DS content on my socials, my home, my walls, and even my grass!!! I won't forgive you for dragging me into another gacha hole, especially when you knew that I promise myself to never spend a dime on any of these games!!! (I'm an f2p player)

Anyways-- Here's my take on this game as a newbie.

The VAs and character designs?

Amazing. I love the boys (including Caleb) and the MC customisation is really detailed. Though, I wish we could have short hair MC permanently but I'm glad we get to experience it on photoshoots. I do wish we get to explore more of the boys on the main plot cause it feels a bit underwhelming. Then again I just finished chapter 3 so we'll see!

I love the dates and the playtime mode since it gives us time to get closer to the boys and understand more about their past and their characteristics. (I'm convinced the claw machine gacha is so random cause one day Xavier won a lot and the next it was Zayne)

I will say tho for now I feel like Rafayel is more developed and interesting compared to the other two. I like Zayne in terms of how much he really cares about his patients and how he was closer to MC back then, but I wish we get more of him soon. For Xavier he's such a mystique as well and I really like him too! Overall, I wish we get more events dedicated to Zayne and Xavier.

The fluidity of the animation and graphics?

Really good considering that I'm playing it on mobile, I set it to medium and its runs pretty smoothly without any low pixelated quality. I love how detailed the backgrounds and designs are, and I really love some of the cinematic shots the developers added during the date scenes. I can't wait to pull for more dates for the characters!

Combat wise?

It's fine for now ,and I really appreciate the proceed 10x button when farming for materuals considering that I'm more of a casual player rather than a combat one.

Though I'm still frustrated that one of the requirements of getting 3 stars for extra diamonds would be to win the combat within 90 secs and I'm like-- boy if that dragon didn't have that short animation I would've gotten it faster!!! If it had been 120 secs I would have gotten it easier... I know that the whole combat system will get a bit complicated the more you ascend your hunter level so I'll just farm for materials just to prepare the inevitable.

Also I wish there were more ways to gain more exps for your hunter level instead of doing the daily tasks. Imagine you are about to head to the next chapter get some main content and yet you can't bc your hunter level is just two level away so you have to wait for the next day...

The plot?

I would say its okay for now since I'm about to head to chapter 4 and even though I finished chapter 3 it still feels like the beginning. The worldbuilding is really interesting but I'm still a bit confused on some aspects of the story. Overall, I can't wait to finally see Caleb on screen (I already saw him on Youtube and I wish he's playable he's so pretty sksksksks)

Edit: I just finished chapter 4.... what in the sweet metaflux world... CALEEEBBBBBB!!!!!

So yeah this is my impression on the game as someone who only joined after a few days! I hope to see more contents for the boys and I can't wait for more chapters (I spoiled myself at chapter 4 and my god... I want Caleb to be playable plzzzzz)

I'm aware that as a newbie my opinions are probably flawed considering that it's barely even a week since I joined, I would love to hear some advices from you guys just so I can prepare myself in terms of combat and to understand more about the characters if I missed anything about them!

i’m chai, and this is my 18+ writing blog / kpop blog, primarily focused on ateez, but you will also find posts about: seventeen, stray kids, txt, kard, plave, bibi, xg, and plenty of other random gifs/posts/etc. i’m 31, she/her, bi, and from the northeast of the usa. feel free to find links to my other kpop socials in my pinned post, but please don’t be offended if i am slow to interact or follow. i’m an adult with a full time job and kpop and writing are hobbies i can’t always keep up with perfectly.

what do you write? who do you write for?

ateez mostly, but will occasionally write for seventeen and the game love and deepspace. my masterlist is organized by topic and member for easy navigation. i do primarily write fics where yunho features since he’s who i have the most brainrot about, but i have lots of other works for other members too.

do you take fic requests?

no.

why don’t you take fic requests?

i truly do not have the time and to be honest my brain doesn’t work like that. i appreciate that other writers can churn out fics or work based on requests, but i just cannot do it. i never write anything that i’m not 100% behind and wouldn’t want to read myself, and it’s hard for me to get excited about writing something when it’s a request. sometimes people have inspired me with great ideas, but that’s usually because we’re friends and swapping headcanons and that leads to an idea, and that to me is distinctly different from a formal request in my inbox.

do you respond to all messages?

no, i don’t. i wish i could, but i get flooded with messages every time i post and honestly every time yunho does something lol. i typically respond to moots / followers that i recognize as regular readers, my regular emoji anons, and any messages that make me smile or inspire me in some way. please don’t be offended if i miss your message or don’t get to it, if i responded to every single one it would take me ages and my adhd brain gets very overwhelmed. also sometimes i get messages that frankly make me uncomfortable, and instead of starting drama i choose to delete those.

what makes you uncomfortable / what won’t you respond to?

unsolicited criticism of my writing/fics (if rude, not helpful like adding a tag / cw etc.), requests for fics/drabbles, questions about when the next chapter of something is being posted, messages intended to push me into publishing the next chapter of something etc.

in general, i am also uncomfortable with asks from strangers that are uncomfortably sexual. i know i write smut, and i accept hard hours asks, but what i mean is a message that’s kind of crass and weird, kind of a you know it when you see it situation. i’ve gotten messages before that are along the lines of like…. ‘i need so and so to *detailed explicit sexual content* to me’ and while i’m not shaming you for feeling that way, i’m not your audience for that. specifically if you’re talking about what you want done to you/what you fantasize about in relation to yourself. i’m all for talking about how yunho’s hands are the perfect necklace, but i’m not cool with knowing how you (a stranger) need him to choke and rail you….. or if you tell me about your personal time. if you catch my drift. i know i write smut, i know what happens with that smut, but please respect my boundaries as a person and keep details about that to yourself.

how did you start writing?

i’ve been writing since i can remember, and went to school for literature and creative writing. fan fiction has been an outlet for me as a reader and writer for years, particularly because i love the romance genre and always have.

will you ever stop writing for ateez / posting about ateez?

probably someday, but i can’t see it happening for a long time since i’m still very into this fandom, them as a group, and getting fic inspiration all the time. that being said, relationships with fandoms and writing changes and who knows what i’ll be doing in five years.

will you ever delete this blog / your fic?

nope! if tumblr ever goes away and this blog disappears i can’t control that, but i’m confident in ao3 at minimum and all my major works are cross-posted there. if i ever choose to leave writing, i would orphan my works before i ever EVER deleted anything, that always makes me sad when writers do that.

i’m a writer / an aspiring writer, will you beta read my fic?

while i really appreciate that you thought of me, i do not beta read fics.

can i send you a fic i’ve written and published?

absolutely! but please understand that i may not read it right away, and if your fic isn’t my cup of tea (in writing, pairing, genre, tags, etc.), i won’t reblog it as a recommendation. i only ever reblog fics that i’ve read and really enjoyed, and sometimes people will ask me to share a fic for visibility as i have a decent number of followers. i don’t feel comfortable with that, and won’t do it. but if you just wanted to send me something and let the chips fall, please do! i’m always looking for new work but don’t always have the time to see new fics being published.

did you see xyz content? why aren’t you posting about xyz content?

i may or may not have seen something, so please feel free to share something with me if you think i’d like it…… but if you’re upset that i don’t post more about other members, other groups, etc., please understand i’m not an update account and really don’t have a lot of time for kpopping even though i wish i did.

honestly…. writing is fun for me, and all the fics i write are for myself. they’re what i want to be reading, and so here i am. that means most of the time my yunho brainrot goes crazy and there we are. it’s not because i dislike a member / don’t care about a member etc., it’s because for every fic idea i have for that member i have about 50 for yunho and end up writing the thing that gets me inspired or excited. as far as pairings and genres go, i just go wherever the ideas lead me. there’s no hard rules, and it’s not really intentional. i’m just writing what i’m excited to write and then sharing it with everyone.

can i translate your work?

no, please do not translate my work or cross-post it anywhere.

i think someone’s plagiarizing your work, how do you want this handled?

please tell me right away and i’ll take it from there! i’ve been plagiarized many times, and that ranges from someone literally posting my work as their own on wattpad or just writing something wildly similar to my work and posting it as their own fic. i’m pretty practiced at handling this now, and will always let my followers know if i need any extra support, but please if you notice my fic out here let me know.

i only ever post works on this blog or on my ao3 account. i only ever post under the name honeyhotteoks. i NEVER post on wattpad (i dislike the platform) or any other fanfic site, so if you see something there it’s not me, please alert me.

Here's a big pile of assorted random, pointless thoughts on Love & Deepspace now that I've been fiddling with it for a while, brainrot below:

I dunno man. It's silly and dumb but it's been entertaining me. The plot is as thin as paper but I find it entertaining. Makes me smile. What else matters. I didn't realize when this game was recommended to me that it is as popular as it appears to be, my instagram recommends me videos of all these promo events in Asia and it's a bit of a shock.

I only have the time / pocket change to get emotionally invested in one single character so it should be no surprise that I'm ride or die for Sylus. (Zayne is also nice tho, very sad, and usually the type of character I go for in otome games. The characters like Sylus tend to be too cartoonishly mean for my taste and it takes me out, so I was a bit surprised to see that his snark is all surface level and beyond the very first Bad Meeting that did Not Go Well, he is actually very respectful and soft for MC. Xavier and Rafayel are very cute but they are like children to me so I can't, lol)

I'm dying, I need more backstory for Sylus. I need to know what his deal is. Why is his heart rate so fucked up? I caught a weird line at the cafe, where he said something like "the heartless are the most faithful", and (in japanese) he used a word that literally translates to no heart, like, the heart is not there. It gives me Howl vibes. And what exactly is the deal with his eye? I couldn't help but notice that when MC asks about the aether core in his eye, he does not actually confirm that it's an aether core and that it's in his eye - he says it's SOMETHING like that, or in japanese, you can INTERPRET it like that. Infold please give me more details about this messed up guy, I need to knowwwww

So far everyone's backstories have all been so damned sad. I just can't wait to see what's sad about Sylus. I have no idea what they have planned, but I imagine my own ideas. I think a lot about the contrast between his behaviour in his intro chapters, and his behaviour in his cards.

Like, Sylus is not a stupid man. So why did he have to have a third character explain to him, hey, maybe the reason why this girl can't resonate with you is because... you know... she hates you? And this seems like it's actually a bit of a shock to him? Does it make any sense at all that this guy who is very smart, very shrewd, has been set up as a good gambler that's able to read people and manipulate others, would not also understand that kidnapping and frightening a girl would definitely not make a very positive outcome? He seems genuinely confused, and frustrated, and even panicking a bit in the beginning there. His petulant conclusion that all the difficulty must be because something is wrong with MC almost borders on pathetic to me.

In my head, I think the adversarial way he talks and deals with MC at the beginning is how he was used to dealing with MC in the past - I think they were enemies to lovers with a big emphasis on the enemies. The way we see her shoot him, cut him, apparently even stab him in the chest, and he almost seems fond of it, I think this is the treatment that he's used to. (That makes me sad)

I like to think that his softness in his later cards is something very new and vulnerable for him. I see it as him letting his guard down and showing his belly in front of someone who he is used to hurting him. MC is trying to learn to get along with him, and I think Sylus is also trying to learn to allow himself to be soft in front of her. In Captivating Moment, at the end he says that just like the MC has been piecing together a puzzle, he has been as well. At one point in the main story, MC asks for more information about how they know each other and he says he doesn't want to say yet - I think he wants to enjoy this while it lasts. Who knows when she's going to get her memories back and go back to trying to fight him. Maybe it would have been smarter to keep his guard up, because it's going to hurt so much to go back to that when it happens, but he can't help getting hooked on this new feeling.

…is what I imagine, anyway. Makes me sad. Who knows what the writers actually have planned.

I do really like the soft cards, but man I dunno, I hope with future myths we get to see some more adversarial back and forth like what we got in Midnight Stealth - I like that one so much.

Anyway, all I know is, like I saw someone comment a little while ago, Sylus is exactly like that post about characters who are submissive in the way a guard dog is submissive to the sheep it watches, 100%, MC's guard dog / dragon / devil / tame wanderer / whatever the hell he ends up being, tame only for her, the queen and her knight, I am desperate to learn more.

I continue to amuse myself with the differences between the japanese audio and the english translation. It's fun to think of these layered differences. For instance, Sylus does not use pet names in the japanese, but he does speak in a blunt and informal way that is very familiar bordering on rude, so I guess the decision was made to translate that to somewhat condescending pet names. Interesting choice. It's a bit like japanese pronouns as well - how do you choose to translate that? We don't have all these different ways of saying "I" in English, so how do you communicate that information but also keep an accurate translation?

I have heard all about the "translation debacle" btw. I've read the original chinese script. I have to say, as someone who has always been a nerd about translation and comparing things to the original... I am not bothered by the differences. I think it's a weird exaggeration to call it a DEBACLE. Yes there are differences. Yes it slightly changes the context of a few lines. I don't feel like it's a significant change, enough to get aghast about it to the degree some people are. Have...... look I’m just comparing it to the translation differences that happen in the anime I watch, have you guys ever looked into the translation of anime? Because I have, I’m a bit of a nerd for it. This to me is all incredibly standard.

I'm not saying there aren't differences, because there are. And I'm not saying there's no point in looking at the original, because I actually love that shit, I am delighted someone posted the original script and translated it and now I can read that and get a more layered understanding. All I am saying is, this is not an egregious mistake or a purposeful attempt to alter characters, this is pretty standard english translation stuff that you'll find happens with everything, all the time, so try not to be weird and accusatory about it. You know? That's all I'm saying.

Captivating moment: MC jumps off the building with Sylus and says she feels "indescribably safe" dskgdskjgh I was initially quite disappointed that Sylus' only myth pair was some contemporary adventure instead of an ACTUAL myth like the other guys get, but I dunno. I ended up enjoying it so much I guess I don't mind.

I still think endlessly about the ring exchange in Radiant Brilliance, and Sylus' awkward pause before he asks MC to pick the finger she wants him to put the ring on. To me that's their whole dynamic summed up in three seconds. He will tease her back and forth and up and down but when it comes right down to it, he can't do anything until she gives him permission. Love that.

Random Details: Lorem Ipsum

This has to be one of my favorite little "easter egg" I've seen throughout the game. Web development is my personal connection to it, but folks in graphic design or publishing are likely familiar with this, too.

In each of these career fields, "lorem ipsum" is used as a natural-looking piece of dummy text to populate templates or places that don't have content added yet. Typographers have used it for centuries to showcase their unique fonts/scripts. It typically starts with:

"Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua..."

If you look closely in-game, you'll see it pop up in various places! In some cases, it is flipped and written backwards. I've included instances I've personally spotted in game. But let me know if you find more! The last one is super sneaky, but I know some lorem ipsum when I see it! 🤣

Who are we?

We are a co-owned account, consisting of two people. We post about whatever fandoms we're interested and the content we want to see. Requests are open, but it’s not a 100 guarantee we’re going to do them. Generally this account was also created out of spite of seeing characters so badly miss characterized in head cannons but we digress

What type of things will we post/accept requests for?

basically whatever we really are interested in, nsfw, fluff, things like that. We’re veering in the side of not writing or accepting toxic dynamics or romanticizing toxic or abusive behaviors, and we very much are probably going to stick more to canon personality anyway. Au’s are something we would probably be interested in, but that’s to be explored down below.

Do we have a post schedule?

Nope! This is done on our own personal free time, and is done mostly as a hobby/out of spite. We could post twice or thrice a week and then ghost this for like a month, but in short, No, there’s no rhyme or reason to our schedule.
