Gladly! Three hours. He had three hours to set up the surprise and get the cake decorated. He had spent all morning baking just the best most delicious vanilla cake (taking note of their dietary preferences, of course) and tirelessly mixing frostings into just the right shade. Now all that's left was to put it all together.

After hours of labor, he finally had a beautiful cake, the frosting resembling the ocean, decorated with little chocolate pearls and seashells. It was the best thing his hands ever created. Packing the cake into a little container, he quickly put on his best suit and took the familiar road to their workplace. They had come out later than he anticipated, and Rafayel immediately noticed something was wrong. Their shoulders were hunched down, their brows furrowed in a way Rafayel knew all too well. This was a sign of a really, really rough day. "Bodyguard, are you okay? Talk to me," he immediately asked as soon as they spotted him. But Raf would not let it go. Taking their hand, he dragged them across the city, situating them in their favorite restuarant, on a table overlooking the sea. The moon was high above them now, reflecting in the waves like little flashes of silver. Raf watched them eat, ordering only their favorite treats as he listened to them vent. Finally, they seemed to get over their slump and began to smile. Perfect. "Hey bodyguard, are you forgetting something today?" he asked teasingly, poking their cheek. They sat in silence, chewing their strawberry in contemplation. "No? Is it someone's birthday?" Raf nodded, his smile so wide it was starting to hurt his cheeks. "Seriously, it's not everyday people get to celebrate their special days, you should treat yourself better," He rolled his eyes as he brought out the little container, along with a tiny candle. However, as soon as he popped the container open, his face fell. Hours of his work having melted and knocked over, taking on a mishapen and hideous form. The icing had disappeared in some spots, leaving behind unsightly peeks at the naked cake underneath. "What is it?" they asked, their eyes curious as they turned the container to face them. They couldn't help but stiffle a laugh at the melted dolphin candy that looked like it was bleeding out mascara, and the mishaped chocolate whale that looked like it was begging for mercy. "It was better looking before, you just took a long time, is all!" he retorted, arms crossed. "i'm sorry, let me order you a nicer looking cake" He raised his hand to call wait staff, but they lowered his hand and fed him melted icing from their fingers. "You don't have to," they said firmly, taking a finger of icing for themselves. "It's the thought that counts, and as you said," They playfully smeared a little bit on icing on his cheek as they smiled. "It's not every day people get to celebrate their special days. And to have a very special person make this for me," they held up the ugly looking cake against the moonlight. "Just makes this birthday all the more special,"

Rafayel smiled and took a clean knife from the table, cutting the cake into slices before serving. "Happy birthday, my special person" he said, holding up his own slice.
