6. Work I’m most proud of (and why): When Harry Met Louis. I came up with the idea to write this because I was just trying to think of a rom com that I could make really, really gay. It became a lot more along the way, and I’m proud of the way I was able to incorporate history and different attitudes toward marriage, while keeping it a rom com and rounding out the characterization and story. 

7. Work I’m least proud of (and why): It’s not that I’m not proud of it, but I think I feel the least close to i’m going tonight. That one came about because I wanted to write for the Taylor Swift fest, so I found a song that I could come up with an idea for, as opposed to having an idea that just worked for it. 

8. Share or describe a favorite review you received: Someone commented on When Harry Met Louis that it made them think about lesbian culture, which they didn’t expect, and I just loved that. Writing girl direction has been a journey for me, and that kind of felt like the culmination of it. 

9. A time when writing was really, really hard: I’ve had a really hard time writing in the last month. I’ve been having a hard time with this being the first holiday season without my mom, and then my mother-in-law fell when she was alone in her home and declined really fast after that, and I’ve just kind of given up for the moment.

10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: LISTEN. Everything about I regret you all the time surprised me. I was surprised that I was inspired in the first place, how quickly it came together and how it just worked. #louilliam forever, I guess.

11. A favorite excerpt of your writing: Honestly, all of A Haunting in Doncaster. 

12. How did you grow as a writer this year: I kind of feel like I grew as a person while writing When Harry Met Louis, so maybe that translates into growing as a writer?

13. How do you hope to grow next year: Right now, I just hope to continue writing. I haven’t been around as much this year, everything has just been weird and off, and I kind of feel like I don’t go here anymore. I feel like because I haven’t been putting much into the community, I’m not getting as much out. But I really enjoy writing and the world building in this fandom. 

14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc): I feel like this year it was fest mods for giving me inspiration and a reason to think of an idea and follow through with it. 

15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year: When I was outlining When Harry Met Louis, I knew I wanted Harry’s family to be, like, lightly (or politely) homophonic. I struggled when I got to the point of writing the fic where I had to address it, and I realized that I was kind of working out how I felt about my own parents, who I never got the opportunity to come out to as bi. 

16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers: I’ve probably said this before, but one thing I love about writing is that the more specific it is, somehow the more universal it becomes. Like the most specific detail you can think of will be the thing that the most people relate to. (Is that even wisdom? I don’t know, be specific if you want to relate to people!)

17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year: I would like to be able to write the Harry/Sutton (from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) fic that I tried to start for Harry Rare Pair Fest. Also, I’ve been rereading old Mary Higgins Clark novels and it made me want to write a witness protection program AU.

I saw this post about Louis and Prince William, and I wasn't expecting it to spark anything but then I saw someone reblog it with the tag #louilliam and I just went oh.

This is for the the Louis Rare Pair Fest, and I don't want to give too much away, but there is a situationship and Louis' friends give him a hard time when he leaves to meet William, like "why do you do this to yourself, you hate yourself every time" ... but he does it anyway.

I answered an ask about this WIP here, but I'm going to share a little snip for you!

There’s not much to the text, just the name of a hotel and a time. It always starts this way. Louis reads it over again, mentally mapping out his tube journey, before setting his phone down. His room is an absolute tip as usual, but he spots a white jumper in the corner that he’s reasonably sure is clean. He resolutely puts out of his mind what he’s about to do as he changes clothes and fixes his fringe. It’s not like thinking about it is going to do any good. One ping on his phone and he goes running. Every time.

I have so many THOUGHTS and FEELINGS about this lmao. Watch me proceed to take this WAY TOO SERIOUSLY

On the one had: Louis is prime man material, how could I not be happy? But on the other... I would put so much pressure on myself to reach the perfection I see in him so as not to let him down?

This man knows how to keep a house. He knows how to cook, and clean, and organize and do all the traditional housewifey things. He has no need for a housewife. But he's also fucking M. Like. What would me, and my absolutely human levels of cleanliness (when is the last time I've cleaned the bathrooms?) and culinary expertise (lackluster at best) and my fucking retail job offer someone like Louis James Moriarty?

He'd have to like... actually like me. And this is someone who doesn't let other people in. I can't imagine him actually liking me. I can't imagine a scenario where his initial reaction to me wasn't just like his canon reaction to Sherlock, or Moran, unless I wasn't being myself. And even if he did somehow like me for me... I'm not the kind of person that would easily believe it.

And so I'd keep striving to be some perfect being that doesn't exist and that I've made up in my mind and his presence would just fuel this self-destructive tendency.

That doesn't even mention the fact that he sees his purpose in life as being to serve William. Like even post time skip, when he's sitting with William and Albert reading his own diary in The Remains [spoilers, obviously but also just generally darker stuff below the cut]

Louis is literally just begging William to fucking rely on him. Like, Louis. Baby. 😭

How can I get in the way of that??? If I met him pre-timeskip my first reaction would be to repeatedly tell him that he is worth so much more than his brothers let him do. Than what they make him do.

Louis is not in a place to hear that then. I had this whole conversation with him to my steering wheel as I was reading the manga about this and he just... couldn't see my point of view. He's far far far too enmeshed in William to see anything about that situation as a problem.

And yet, I'd do the exact same thing to myself for him.

The person who crosses me the most is me? Would he cut me out of my head? Because that's the only way I see this ending. It's the only way I would want it to end.

That steering wheel conversation ended with him stabbing me. That is the basis of the "hurt Louis" fic. I tried getting to creative about it, and couldn't come up with the context to make it happen... but that's the hurt Louis fic that I used to think about a lot.

So I ship it. But not like that. I ship it in the most fucked up and horrendous sense, where neither of us come out unscathed.

And this hasn't even touched on the amount of time I spend thinking pornographic thoughts about Louis and his brothers.
