okay so actually everyone is voltron twinkified this show is visually eerily similar to voltron and idk if it's because they hired the same production team or because this is just what all western 2d animation looks like now

OK, I have 14 requests pending and a lot to do for myself, but you HAVE to listen to this crossover AU idea I made out of pure resentment and willpower.

You all know of my dislike of both the Voltron ending and the Shera series, so I decided to make this self-indulgent AU with my favorite characters from each series. Lotor and Adora. Here goes.

WHAT IF: GALRA! GENERAL! ADORA AU

Imagine that somehow, when Lotor and his generals are looking for a way to travel to other realities in search of Quintessence, they end up intercepting Hordak's portal, which creates a wormhole that instead of bringing Adora to Hordak, brings Adora to the Galra.

I like to think that Lotor is sincerely not in favor of indoctrinating this baby (who can't even return to her world) in the style of the Garla, so at the insistence of the generals he ends up pseudo adopting the baby.

And Adora grows up with 4 violent but affectionate mothers, and a more subtle father who would definitely burn all the Galra for her.

This Adora really doesn't start training until she's like 14-15 years old? Precisely because she wants to help her "family", and even though Lotor protests... he really can't say no to Adora.

This Adora not only has less Traumas, but she's more determined, more mischievous, more sassy. Living with the generals and Lotor, she learned how to handle situations so that they turn out the way she wants. That and about 4 different types of fighting styles.

Something my sister added is that this Adora always has her head held high, as it is something that both Lotor and the generals taught her to do, to be proud of who she is, to never be ashamed and not to bow down to anyone :,) my bb

I also think that Adora's influence on Lotor/the generals not only toughened her up, but softened them in return, they are more empathetic than the original series (so the Alteans thing is a big NO NO here).

Tell me what you think about this! I could go into more depth about this Adora's relationship with the other characters or how I imagine the story would be.

imagínate que de alguna manera, cuando Lotor y sus generales estan buscando la manera de viajar a otras realidades en busca de Quintaescencia, terminan interceptando el portal de Hordak, lo que genera un agujero de gusano que en vez de traer a Adora ante Hordak, trae a Adora con los Galra.

me gusta pensar que Lotor sinceramente no esta a favor de indocrinar a esta bebe (a la cual nisiquiera puede regresar a su mundo) al estilo de los Garla, por lo que por insistencia de las generales termina pseudo adoptando a la bebe.

y Adora crece con 4 mamas violentas pero afectivas, y un papá mas sutil pero que definitivamente quemaria a todos los Galra por ella.

esta Adora realmente no empieza a entrenar hasta que tiene como unos 14-15 años? justamente por querer ayudar a su "familia", y si bien Lotor protesta... realmente el no puede que decirle que no a Adora.

esta Adora no solo tiene menos Traumas, sino que es mas decidida, mas travieza, mas sassy. viviendo con las generales y Lotor, aprendio como manejar las situaciones para que salgan a su antojo. eso y unos 4 tipos diferentes de estilos de lucha.

algo que mi hermana agrego es que esta Adora siempre esta con la cabeza en alto, ya que es algo que le enseñaron a hacer tanto Lotor como las generales, a ser orgullosa de quien es, a nunca tener vergüenza y no doblegarse ante nadie :,) mi bb

tambien creo que la influencia de Adora en Lotor/las generales no solo la endurecieron, sino que los ablando a ellos en retorno, son mas empaticos que la serie original (por lo que lo de los alteanos es un gran NO NO aqui).

digame que opinan de esto! podria profundizar en la relación de esta Adora con los otros personajes o como me imagino que seria la historia.

This is in response to an ancient ask from around 2018 so feel free to ignore it. I found that post about fandom discourse on your account and found out the sh/eith asks on your blog. So here's some clarification about it.

The majority of the bullying and harassment in the fandom was done by kl shippers, specifically the antis and the normal kl fans got caught in the crossfire. I dont know what hunty did but a major reason why they were on the kl hit list was because they were actively compiling all the harassment and vile behaviour of the fandom (regardless of the ship of choice). This doesn't absolve any harm done by sk shippers definitely but there is a big gap between the severity of bad behaviour on both sides.

The kl fans told a gay man (David Gaider) that he was a pedophile for liking sk and tried to get him fired. Harassed a non binary lesbian who worked on the show and painting her as predator and threatening to hurt her till she stopped wanting to appear at panels, threatening a voice actor's children to the point that he had to start reporting people, and the continued and absolutely vile treatment of Lauren Montgomery for 2 whole years at every perceived slight to their golden by.

The reason kl fans were called delusional by some was because they made several really bad reaches like writing entire manifestos about why kl would be canon and calling it a bible and a testament despite the show runners repeatedly saying it was never on the table and it boiling down to head canons. Insisting that every a/llurance interaction was secretly about kl and insisting every sk interaction was platonic but then redrawing those exact same scenes as kl. Insisting that Kihyun's Keith groping Shiro's tiddy art is brotherly. Telling gay men that that using words like brother or family for your crush when you don't fully understand your feelings means they have psychosexual problems and have an incest fetish then turning around and insisting that C/atradora, another ship popular with kls was actually just the lesbian experience since they were actually raised as sisters. Outside of that there was sending sk shippers gore and cp and telling one they should have died from their cancer.

As for the ages and the sk age discourse, the backstory was revealed in season 7, in season 1 the characters were introduced as 5 teenagers in space meeting aliens, which included Shiro. Now considering Shiro has always looked like an older guy even when he was a teen in the original series people went with it, even those who didnt usually read him as an older teen. Later Keith came back about 2 years older while Lance was still 17 so they started insisting that Keith was mentally stunted and therefore still a "baby adult" at about 20. This was because back when people said Shiro could be 18-19-20 that Keith being 17 is still weird. But kl fans started insisting that all ptsd sufferers were inherently abusive in relationships and that he had "scrambled eggs for brains". They also insisted that he could only be shipped with Allura who was an adult according to them. in season 2 a non canon book was released that said Keith was 18 at the start of the series and Shiro was 25. Unless people were obsessively looking at this stuff you wouldn't know that. Later Allura's va made a reference to Allura dealing with trauma like an average teen which instantly had kls throwing shiro/allura fans under the bus. Also note that they were very against lotor/lance and harassed the shippers within a week of the ship becoming a thing. Basically every ship outside of kl involving these two became problematic in one way or another, sk and a/llurance taking the worst hits. By the end of season 6 kls had their chats leaked discussing their fears of sk becoming canon and needing to cope by rereading the kl manifestos and doubling down on harassing the sk and a/llurance shippers. By this point Lauren Montomery had already liked fanart of shiro and keith making out (s2), Barlee had liked art of them snuggled up (s3), the famous "Shiro loves you baby, he's looking at keith" art had already been posted by Chirs palmer (s1), Josh Keaten had already coined the ship name (s1), Kihyun Ryu was drawing Keith groping Shiro (s6) and Bex had already made several jokes about Shiro and Keith being a couple (s1-7). At this point kl fans started harassing the staff directly and calling them predatory, after their infamous attempt at blackmailing them to make kl canon didn't work. They would change their approved non ship questions during panels to put the staff on the spot, they recorded Jeremy Shada without his consent for a scrap of kl evidence, they posted videos of children forcing them to watch vld, they posted uncensored pics of two classmates (minors) for wearing blue and red, as well as of their very very small students because they were kl coded, they spammed Jeremy Shada's posts with his gf insisting its uncomfortable cuz they look like siblings and how he should date Keith's va instead (a married man btw), they then proceeded to harass Shada when he lost his cool and ranted about the behavior of kl fans in a panel calling him awful things. They told csa survivors that they should be ashamed of liking a ship.

In a later panel for season 6 Josh Hamilton flat out said that sk were in no way related and JDS said that people would come out of the show either thinking they were together or thinking they are just bros hinting at some degree of ambiguity. It was only in season 7 after much of the thing was over that we saw their backstory, the pics that are used to harass shippers. By this point most sk shippers had a completely different backstory for them and those who shipped them from before didn't ship them in this variation of canon. He was also dating someone else during this period anyway.

As for why people ever started shipping sk in the first place, its because Bex made two snapchat posts about the very first episode refering to Shiro being Keith's true love and Shiro bringing the kids (the other three paladins) to his and Keith's date night. Mind you, both Josh Keaten and Bex were actively harassed for saying that sheith was a perfectly normal and healthy ship.

TLDR: The vld show had no show bible and the ages were never elaborated on, people didn't know shit about how sk met and a lot of the narrative is made up head canons being pushed as facts. Majority of the claims against sk shippers is revisionism that was done by antis and these things can be proven with all the records and screenshots maintained by hunty and several other blogs. That being said there were assholes in all ships, even the ones that insist they were unproblematic and innocent.

Let's Rewind! Toast watches Voltron: Defender of The Universe (1984)

I now have access to pretty much every animated version of Voltron and now after around 7 years of being a Voltron fan and amateur archivist, I'm finally sitting down to watch (or rewatch) every Voltron show to see how it's grown over its legacy, starting with Dotu!

Season 1, Episode 1 - Space Explorers Captured

Starting off strong, the intro is pretty cool in my eyes, no wonder this was burned into so many kids heads when it was airing It also reminds me of Danny Phantom and how the backstory was in the opening, same thing here to get into the action lol

It's Hunk and Keith! NOT, the first shots we "see" of them aren't actually them! It's reused footage from Vehicle Voltron of the characters Jeff and Rocky, you can tell by the uniforms (and y'know faces)! This feeds my hc that the boys originally were part of the explorer though >:D

I love the way this art style, or like any 80s-90s anime, draws space, it's so pretty like CMON Also, I never realized that the boys got to Arus WHILE it was being taken over, I swear I remembered that Arus was already a wasteland so-to-speak by the time they got there

Oh what a lovely day to awaken to these tags! Thank you for them. It warms my heart to know this post and all the hard work we did is still reaching people who care about this show. It's a rare day that I do not think about this show, and wish we could see the original versions. In retrospect, this post has a lot of issues with it, but many I think are forgivable, given that the main thrust of the post is still true: Season 8 of Voltron Legendary Defender was severely edited post production and one of the main casualties of these edits was Lotor and his associated story.

Do you know, friends, that today, December 7th 2024, is the first day that there is no legal way to experience Seasons 7 and 8 of VLD? it's true. It came down off of Netflix last night, and since it was never released on DVD or available for digital download all copies currently available are those that were illegally downloaded. The only way you can watch VLD S7&8 today is piracy.

You may ask, well, why is that? It should be a simple and relatively inexpensive task to release those seasons for digital download. Why, in the years since their original airing has this never happened?

Well shit, I wish I could tell you, but I don't have any official answers. At this point, all I can do is speculate.

Fortunately, speculation is my forte!

It should come as no surprise that I believe the lack of official copies of S7 and S8 of VLD are a direct result of the edits to both seasons. Yes. Both. When I originally wrote this post, we hadn't connected the dots and realized that Season 7 was edited as well (I covered some of this in my followup post "Seek Truth in Darkness", since a portion of the content cut from Season 7 makes an appearance in Season 8). Whether it's a legal mess behind the scenes holding it up, or a matter of principle (ha!) of DreamWorks not wanting to publish something they were forced to butcher...

Hmm. I don't think I ever came out and publicly said what I believed happened and who was responsible, did I? We alluded to it in a few articles, but never directly stated it. The man in question is notably litigious after all.

*Ahem* Seasons 7 and 8 of Voltron Legendary Defender were edited, post production, on the orders of Bob Koplar, the CEO of WEP (formerly World Events Productions) the company who owns Voltron, the brand, and who leased the adaptation rights to DreamWorks in order for them to make VLD.

Presumably, what happened was that Bob was screened the final cut of the seasons for his stamp of approval (he was not heavily involved in the production despite being named a "Producer" of the show in the credits) whereupon he threw a tantrum and demanded they be changed. His being the CEO of WEP (who, remember, still held the Voltron trademarks) meant that DreamWorks was forced to capitulate to his demands and make the changes. Season 7 was sent back to Mir for the changes to be done professionally, and they're very difficult to pinpoint by animation analysis alone. Season 8, however, was up against a tight deadline and there wasn't time or budget left for proper changes to be made. So they were done with the skeleton team that remained at DreamWorks, and it shows very clearly in both the story and animation. Which is why I could see it, and why the original post could exist at all.

I don't think it's debatable that Season 8 was edited. It's blatantly obvious for anyone who bothers to look and is not under an NDA. The main questions are going to be, what was removed, and why this happened at all.

The answers to these questions are heavily intertwined, as the content removed reveals what was objectionable. As far as I can tell, the two apparently verboten topics were anything involving Lotor's redemption and anything that would potentially cast Voltron-the-robot in a negative light. These topics themselves are intertwined, because it is Lotor's redemption that proves that Team Voltron made a mistake in "defeating" him. As Lotor's VA himself said, "Lotor was framed." Revealing the truth of this would mean that Team Voltron has the potential to be NOT a unilateral force for good, and introduce a grey morality to a previously black and white situation.

In essence: redeeming Lotor would tarnish Voltron's "brand". And this was what was so offensive to Bob Koplar, who is on record saying his favourite character is "the robot".

Bob Koplar does not want it known what he did. Especially as, at this very moment, he is involved with the casting and filming of his long-awaited live-action Voltron adaptation. For sure, he did nothing illegal. In fact it's the very legality of what he did that made it possible - he owned the trademarks, and no one could do something with his property that he did not approve of. But he did something disgusting. He used and abused the creative team of VLD, forced them to butcher their own work, that they had poured their hearts and souls into. He forced them, through non-disclosure agreements, to take the fall for his terrible decisions, and is still refusing to tell the truth about it; he'd rather bury VLD and forget it exists at all.

So thank you, for remembering. For still caring about this show and these characters so many years after we saw it's "end". Maybe some day we'll see the real one.

Chasing the Ghosts of Season 8

Let’s skip the flowery intros and get to the point, because this is important.

Lotor’s vindication and reunion with Allura were originally part of VLD s8 and I can prove it. Most animation relating to this plot was excised, while other clips were re-purposed to make it look like he was dead all along: but some are still in there.

The removal of this plot line was one of the major factors in completely messing up season 8, and it was a change that was made very recently; no earlier than August in fact. There is a significant, non-zero chance that an unedited version of Season 8 exists in its entirety; completely finished.

Hola hermana! La respuesta en español está abajo! Yep, she's still She-Ra, but in her own... peculiar way.

We all know that Lotor and his generals, while they conquered planets, left them independent, Adora grew up with that in this AU, so it wouldn't be crazy if, at some point when Adora is older, they arrive to Etheria.

Many aspects of Etheria remain the same, the war with the Horde, Hordak, Shadow Weaver, etc. but without Adora as we know her, some aspects change.

For example, Catra becomes dependent on Ronnie, Rogelio and Kyle instead of Adora, to cover up her disasters. She is more favored than in the original universe and that made her an even worse person. A backstaber in a nutshell.

When Lotor and Company arrive, they make a deal with the revolution/Angela that in exchange for partial control of their planet, they would get rid of Hordak. Here Adora meets Bow and Glimmer just like in the original, but with her new personality it will take a long time for them to trust her.

Anyway, when they have to make a coordinated attack with the rebellion, Adora goes with Ezor and Zethrid to wait for their signal, and while she's bored, Adora wanders around the forest a bit and BOOM, she sees the sword.

This Adora probably didn't even think about the possibility of the sword being magic, she just saw an ancient relic and wanted it for herself.

Adora took the sword with her into battle and fought very well! However, when they returned to the Bright Moon base, Angela noticed that something about the sword was... unusual. So she called Bow's parents to examine it.

And, indeed, it was She-ra's sword.

I like to think that Adora only figured out how to Transform into She-ra when one of the generals was in danger (most specifically; Narti) and that instead of screaming "for the honor of Grayskull" she screams "victory or death"

Her She-ra outfit looks more like the one from season 5 than the one from the first seasons. And she has her sword in physical form because she likes to fight even without transforming.

Lotor will probably decide to study the heart of Etheria and LightHope on his own (finding some way to dismantle it) and you can bet that Adora is ready to kick some Horde ass.

And nope, Adora from this Au is not with Catra. In fact I think she would kill her but that's a topic for another post.

todos sabemos que Lotor y sus generales si bien conquistaban planetas les dejaban su independencia, Adora crecio con eso en este AU, por lo que no seria loco que, en algun momento cuando Adora ya es mayor, llegan a Etheria.

muchos aspectos de Etheria siguen igual, la guerra con la horda, Hordak, Shadow Weaver, etc. pero sin Adora como la conocemos cambian algunos aspectos.

Por ejemplo, Catra se hace dependiente de Ronnie, Rogelio y Kyle en vez de Adora, para cubrir sus desastres. ella es mas favorecida que en el universo original y eso la hizo aun peor persona. una backstaber en pocas palabras.

está Adora probablemente nisiquiera penso en la posibilidad de que la espada fuera magica, simplemente vio una reliquia antigua y la quiso para si misma.

Adora llevo la espada consigo a la batalla y peleo muy bien! sin embargo cuando volvieron a la base de luna brillante, Angela noto que algo en la espada era...inusual. asi que llamo a los padres de Bow para que la examinaran.

y, en efecto, era la espada de She-ra.

me gusta pensar que Adora solo descubrio como Transformarse en She-ra cuando alguna de las generales estaba en peligro (mas concertamente; Narti) y que en vez de gritar "por el honor de Grayskull" ella grita "victoria o muerte"

su atuendo de She-ra se parece mas al de la temporada 5 que el de las primeras temporadas. y tiene su espada en fisico porque a ella le gusta pelear incluso sin transformarse.

probablemente Lotor decida estudiar por su cuenta el corazon de Etheria y LitghHope (encontrando alguna manera de desmantelarla) y puedes apostar que Adora esta lista para patear traseros de la Horda.

y nop, Adora de este Au no esta con Catra. de hecho creo que la mataria pero eso es un tema para otro Post.

Okay, this was the highlight of my convention. I met AJ Locascio!!! The voice actor for Lotor from Voltron!! If you are familiar with my blog you may be aware that Lotor is my favorite character (aside from Lance). Jeremy Shada wasn’t at SacAnime, and I could only afford one autograph session, so I knew hands down it had to be AJ (although I would have loved to meet Josh too). He was super nice and funny, and he even seemed a bit awkward and nerdy which made him very approachable. This sounds dumb but I almost cried in line to meet him because I love Lotor so much, and I can tell that AJ really loved his role in voicing the character and has a huge soft spot in his heart for Lotor. I really enjoyed the few moments I spent talking with him and I really hope to meet him again. I will post the autographs at some point as well! Thank you AJ for making my weekend great and for being amazing both at the panel and person-to-person. You rock!!!

another new concept: a group of galra numbering ~3 million that is also defined by their direct descent from lotor, and are oppressed by zarkon for their “impurity.”

I can see 100% where you are coming from. BTW stuff I dont comment on, I just agree with. I just want to elaborate a bit on my statements, not to change your mind.

For Kallura, I don't actually mean in canon. Their relationship is obviously more of a headcanon/fanon thing for me. They obviously don't have that much chemistry....

Oddly, I think Zarkon is written perfectly for his role as a monster-of-the-week type of enemy. Personally because I don't see him as a character outside that dynamic, I just don't know what the show would do with him other than expand on him and Lotors relationship. (Which was the only good thing abt him)

I believe Keith recieved the least lines out of most of the paladins. His arc was cut out (rushed, whatever) due to his VA being unavailable. Multiple arcs? Meh, more like ideas tossed up in the air and left up to interpretation. As for Acxa, she could've been interesting (like Zarkoooooon) but some characters are just meant to be concepts.

No doubt. Black Paladins is a beautiful episode. I just mean there is no build up or aftermath to the episode. Even filler episodes have better continuity than TBP.

When you say they're boring, that's what I mean. For a relationship said to have been getting stronger, we don't exactly see what that would look like.

I find this funny because I don't like the first half. I didn't like the filler episode, when the generals attacked them, or when they went crazy in space (well I did but it's complicated) everything else, I couldn't explain to you why I enjoy it so much. There's something wrong with me is all.

Vld rewatch was a wild trip honestly. My general opinions are as follows:

Generic ass show. I'm not entirely sure why it took off as much as it did but it was generic af.

I still stand by that the Alteans spout some serious "white man's burden" type of shit. Very reminiscent of all the shit I spent slogging over in my postcol lectures.

I'm still shook that people never pointed out Alfor literally nuked Daibazaal and basically forced the Galrans into exile.

Haggar's character died when she remembered she's a mom.

I may not be huge on Allura given some of the really weird choices made with the Alteans but damn you really murked the victim of a genocide for the greater good, huh?

Kl fans really thought their ship was gonna be canon cause a couple people on the show drew art for it. I guess Revy and Roberta have been screwing behind the scenes.

Shiro is my son and the only good thing second to my best friend acquisition to come out of vld. I would have added Zarkon but we literally had only 2 seasons of him before his daddy ass was nuked.

I originally went in expecting ka1lura because that's how it always went and started actually liking a1lurance by the end. Yes it was developed pretty well all things considered. Only one other duo was developed more than them and it wasn't the two twinks.

I like the MFE pilots more than the paladins given that the latter's bond was non existent by the end.

Hunk and Shay were not a good couple in terms of development. Sorry it's cute but it's boring as fuck. No build up, they meet, the fat guy liked the fat girl and they immediately start dating. That's the way of the fat peeps in media. Lord forbid we give people who aren't skinny actual developed love stories.

My use of the word daddy is reserved for two fictional men. He's one of them.

Keith, Matt, Ezor and Allura were the prettiest characters. I can see why everyone wanted a piece of Keith in particular for their ships.

Keith x Axca would have been the lamest endgame. My boy is running around in space, is a part alien and with so many unique looking characters around him only to end up with the alien with the most uninteresting character design is just ridiculous. Had she looked buff like Zethrid or unusual like Ezor I'd have been down for it.

Krolia had bad character design. She's a generic fem galra Keith au fan art.

You couldn't get me to take [Man]'s existence seriously. If you put a loaded gun to my head and demanded I do I'd squeeze your trigger finger and off myself instead.

Shiro's new arm is UGLY.

The castle of lions looks like a giant fancy dildo.

Lotor's arc was dumb. Loved the racism of Lotor's Altean side being praised when he's faking goodness but a Galran when he's evil? As if it's not his Altean mother's obsessive ambition that led to his downfall while Zarkon literally went mad because of his love and devotion for Honerva? Oh right, Alteans good Galra bad. My mistake.

LM and JDS don't deserve a fraction of the slander they still keep getting. The show was bad in the way a generic idea tends to be when you have a bunch of different writers.

S8 is objectively awful but the quality declined after s2.

I hate their chins. Shiro was the only one with a chin I could get behind.

I really want to go back to that time when we used to slap "Disclaimer: I do not own *insert show name*. The show and all the characters are the property of *insert company/creator's name*". It will definitely reduce the obscene entitlement amongst modern audiences.
