80 with klance of course 😘😘
80. “How can you think I’m anything but hopelessly in love with you?”
thank you for sending this in! / 1.2k
People leave, wish Keith well, and go on out the door.
In their wake, they leave napkins and bottles, ones that glow in the orangey light out back. He takes a good look at the soon to be empty yard, and kicks off his shoes. He wanders out onto the grass, feeling the cool on his feet. He stands there, inhales.
One last good one, on his own-
“Keith.”
It’s almost too soft, and he almost misses it. He spins around- a dizzying sort of feeling floods his body as his eyes land on Lance, who’s still here for some reason. “You’re back.”
Lance puts a hand on the sliding glass door. “I forgot something.” He holds up his jacket as proof.
“Oh- wouldn’t want you to forget that.” Keith smiles, and turns to face Lance, fully.
“It’s my favorite,” Lance weighs it in his hand, and with a flick, he tosses off to the side. “It can wait a little longer.” He smiles an easy smile, and steps outside. “Are we starting out here?”
“Starting-” Keith freezes a little as Lance comes closer, kind of circles him. He turns his head to try and keep sight of him. “Starting what?”
Lance stops off to his side, and gestures. “You know, cleaning.”
Keith turns, and smiles. “Oh, so the guy who makes most of the mess is cleaning it up.”
Lance ignores that as he puts his hands on his hips, looking about. “Well, we can’t leave this place this way- would be bad of you to leave the state like this.” He looks over, grins. “After all, what’s a best friend for?”
The sun glows behind him, as it sits on the border of the fence.
Keith takes it all in- he drinks it, really. The way this is all- all here. “Is that so?” He finally says, and looks away. Of course, friends. The best, but still. He rolls his eyes a little, a mask. “You can start outside and I’ll go back in.”
“Cool. Cool, cool, cool.”
Keith turns, and makes it a few feet to the slider before he registers the footsteps right behind him. He stops, and feels how close Lance is once he stops.
“Whoa, almost ran into you there.”
Run into me, Keith wants to say. Instead, he steps up into the house and turns around. “I thought I told you to start out there.”
“I need a trash bag, Keith.”
“Ah, right.” Keith turns, and fishes two out from under the sink. He passes one off to Lance, and he watches as Lance goes outside.
The sun is setting, nothing new about the world. But, tomorrow, Keith will be gone and he won’t see Lance like this. His best friend of six years, his crush of two.
Quiet, Keith thinks, and flaps open the trash bag, the sound like thunder in the empty house. He ignores it all, and stoops here and there to pick up. He finds his focus after a while, and while picking, it gets darker outside.
He doesn’t realize until he ties his bag, and sets it down. He turns toward the door, to check on Lance, to find Lance right there, bag tied.
There’s only a few feet between them.
“Done!” Lance sets the bag down, and looks around the house. He low-whistles. “Can’t believe it’s this empty.”
Keith follows Lance’s gaze. “Yeah- crazy.”
“You gonna miss this place?”
“Oh, yeah.” Keith smiles, memories popping up as he stands there. The layout of it all comes back, as though it’s not sitting in a moving truck out in the front. “Yeah.”
“Are you gonna miss us?”
“I’m gonna miss us.” Keith speaks fondly, not realizing. He turns to look at Lance, and then realizes. “I don’t-”
It’s then that Lance lowers his shoulders, just a little. “Ah, got it.”
It’s nothing, Keith thinks. “I’m gonna miss all my friends.” He puts on a smile. “Make sure to keep in touch.”
“You, too. Don’t go all lone wolf on us.” Lance cracks a smile, then looks at his feet for a hot second. He just stands there, and the only that can be heard is the whirring kitchen fan overhead.
Keith, concern settling in, takes a step closer. “Are you okay?”
Lance stands up, a smile on his face. “Just gonna miss you- like, more than you realize.”
Keith feels his pulse quicken as he stands there. “More?”
“Yeah, just knowing I can’t see you, hear you-” Lance’s voice cracks a little. “Oh, god. Ok. Keith, I.” He takes a deep breath. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.” Keith assures, and he’s dancing, he knows-
“No, as in I’m in love with you.” Lance stands there, in the kitchen. “I’m in love with you and I know this is shit timing and this is just me but-”
Keith’s eyes widen, and he watches as Lance watches him. “You think what?”
“It’s just me, clearly, and-”
“Lance.” Keith can feel sparks on his skin. “Lance.”
“-I’ve been in love with you for like three years and-”
“Lance!”
Lance stops, and looks right at Keith.
Three years. Keith isn’t sure what to do with his face. “I- I always thought our roles were reversed?”
“Our roles- wait, you- you-”
“Two years.” Keith hums, smiles a little. “I’ve been in love with you for two years.” He falters. “I just- you never seemed-”
“How can you think I’m anything but hopelessly in love with you?” cuts through the air, and Keith feels a little weak in the knees.
“How?” Lance repeats, and reaches out, stopping close to Keith’s face. “I just-”
“I mean,” Keith reaches up, and presses Lance’s hand to his face, so tenderly he has to take a second. “You thought the same thing, about me.” He smiled, a little. “Guess that’s something to work on then.”
Lance just looks at him. “Oh my god- oh my god you’re leaving tomorrow-”
“Did you forget?” Keith laughs a little. “Seems like something that’s hard to…forget.” He’s leaving for a new job. Leaving.
“Did you mean it? When you said it was something work on?”
Keith is brought back to the moment, and this is where he belongs. “I mean, you are caressing my face rather tenderly in the kitchen and- oh.” He feels as Lance strokes his cheek with his thumb. “And that, too.”
“And that, too,” Lance repeats, a smile on his face. He keeps stroking, and slowly, he edges his hand lower, his thumb getting so close to Keith’s lower lip-
“Lance, I have been yearning for two years- you can move quicker.”
“Yeah, and I’ve been for three years. So, really-”
Keith feels Lance’s thumb stroke once, twice, thrice- “This isn’t a competition you know.”
Lance moves his hand against Keith’s neck. “I know.” He smiles a cheesy lil smile, and Keith knows his pulse quickens at that.
“Kiss me,” he manages, as he watches Lance.
Wordlessly, Lance complies. His lips are soft and warm, and his breath is alcoholish, fruity from the mixed drinks.
And Keith drinks it in.
Lance puts his other hand on Keith’s neck.
Keith puts both his hands on Lance’s face, and he forgets he’s leaving.
It’s when they separate, that’s when it hits him and there’s only one thing to do next.
“Will you be my boyfriend?”
“Are you going to visit me every chance you get?” Lance brushes some of Keith’s hair behind his ears.
“As long as you do the same for me.”
“Ok, sounds good.” Lance smiles, and presses a kiss to Keith’s forehead.
Sounds good, Keith thinks, and drinks the night to its very last drop.

1, 26 and 28!! 💙❤️
thank you!!! 💖🦋
1. Which book would you consider the best book you’ve ever read and why?
- gone girl. when i first read it, it was the first book i had devoured in a while. like, the voice and the pace and the plot and the differing povs and like...really, truly thrilling and iconic!
26. A book you studied in school and ended up loving?
- oh fuck dude! for my literary theory class, i took a class on post-colonial lit and my prof had us read this book called “the god of small things”. and just. supremely vivid and important and attentive to every detail. lots of symbolism and deals with the colonial effect on an indian family and it was something truly unforgettable (there were definitely hard moments though- there was a sexual assault scene and that’s just a heads up).
28. Thoughts on adults reading YA?
- as a technical adult, i think so! there’s no shame and i truly love YA- it’s so fascinating to see how it grows and understand what it means to give young people more representation
