you know what i think kids/teen books do 'fantasy romance/fantasy books' way better than any of the adult fantasy books booktok raves about. i try and read some of them and 90 percent of the time its just smut and abusive relationships disguised as 'dark romance'. then i read books like Keeper Of The Lost Cities, The School for Good and Evil, Percy Jackson, Land of Stories, the Nevermoor series, that kind of thing, and they are all actually so amazing because they have fleshed out characters with flaws and an engaging plotline instead of just badly written romance. and when they do have romance it's well written and about the people rather than the tropes.

Been seeing a lot of descrying is fake stuff on my timeline and I just think it’s so funny bc imagine faking an ability and accidentally ending up on the council. Like young Terik realizing oh shit I don’t have a talent I’ll be scorned—wait a minute. And he just comes up with a new ability on the spot. Then ppl start coming to him to sense potential and he’s just saying whatever he wants (you better hope you were nice to him in high school because if you weren’t your potential is 0). Then ppl realize his readings aren’t coming true so he covers his ass by being all like “well potential is nothing if it’s not lived up to” and everyone else is just oh yeah that makes sense.
