Lorne Michaels and Chevy Chase met while at the Los Angeles Film Festival in the spring of 1974 while they were waiting in line for a movie. Chevy was “making wisecracks and doing spot-on impressions” to entertain others in line, including Lorne Michaels and Dick Ebersol.

The three men went out for dinner and were walking in the rain together, moving from awning to awning to stay as dry as they could when Chevy ran ahead.

Dick Ebersol: A couple hundred feet away, he goes into a pothole, does a complete ass over teakettle into this immense pothole, and comes out of this thing just soaked. And he walks back and he and Lorne look at me and say, “Now how could you say no to somebody who was crazy enough to do that?" So Chevy became a cast member.

Now I don’t know about you, but feels like a weird sort of Hallmark movie. ​

Like I’m picturing Chevy not having any idea who Lorne is because he’s just some admittedly cute guy wearing nothing more than a shirt and jeans, but there’s this essence about him like there’s something about this guy that makes Chevy try really hard to make him laugh. Because while everyone is laughing, this guy is leaning against this building all relaxed like with his hands in his pockets and a small smile on his face as he rolls his eyes at some of Chevy’s better jokes.

Of course Lorne recognizes immediately that this guy is good, and maybe finds him a bit attractive, but Lorne doesn’t want to give him the satisfaction of seeing him laugh. Lorne can tell this guy is a bit egotistical so he’s going to make him work for it.

And Chevy’s like “how about we make a deal. You go out to dinner with me and if I make you laugh before the movie then you pay. If I don’t, I’ll pay.” And Lorne just shrugs like “okay” because he was planning on making Dick cover dinner anyway.

So for the next however long, Chevy is trying to nail down what Lorne’s humor is. And he’s sort of baffled because he can tell Lorne finds a lot of his content funny because there’s this amused glint in his eyes. If something’s especially funny he’ll stick out his tongue a little bit. Adorable.

Chevy’s got one more truck up his sleeve and that’s a perfectly executed prat fall amidst one of his bits that startles a laugh of Lorne, ringing through the theater like music to Chevy’s ears.

And so of course, Lorne’s a man of his word. The three of them go out to dinner and Chevy’s a little disappointed because he was hoping that they’d be alone. But the two definitely still have this flirty banter going on and Dick is just sitting there hardcore third-wheeling. Lorne still makes Dick pay because whoops he left his wallet in the hotel.

Chevy is pleasantly surprised but also not at all surprised when he learns Lorne is a producer, but he’s more shocked when he finds out he’s putting together this show. And Lorne immediately knows he wants this guy on his show, but Dick is a bit weary. On the walk back to Dick and Lorne’s hotel Chevy does another pratfall because he just needs to hear Lorne laugh one more time—just in case they go their separate ways and Chevy never sees or hears from him again.

When you like a character that is so unknown, there are barely any fanfics about him. And when that character is so vile and has absolutely no nice qualities other than being handsome, so the very few fanfics available are written about the most gruesome and haunting things he’s done. I cannot keep living like this.

In-universe or IRL. - i wouldn't say misunderstood, but i would say that ze confuses people. ze isn't always clear on why he's doing something-- i think generally he's just not the most communicative. things usually make sense After ze's done them. if that makes sense 🍑 How do they show their kindness? How kind are they truly? - genuinely very kind!! i will say that this doesn't mean he's physically soft or weak. teuthis could hurt a lot more than a fly, and he has, but he would also never go out of hir way to do that. and this will make sense later when i can get into more world ( + creature) building but ze comes from a family of ranchers, and has some fairly particular views stemming from that background. 🌱 What new passions/hates is your OC discovering? - he's finding himself hating some human foods, unfortunately. he can't digest a good amount of it properly!! he eats what's on his planet (this is a pescatarian-leaning diet, although they have something dairy-adjacent that doesn't come from anything that can walk on land, as well as fruits and veggies) and adapted food when off-planet. 🥐 Where is your OC from? How do they feel about their homeland? Where are they now? - he lives on a waterworld!! it has a code name for ID which other species with spacefaring capabilities use, but of course that's not what they call it on-planet. (i've yet to come up with a good name D:). but he loves it!! there's nothing not to love about it. it's home <:) currently ze's still there. . . but he might not be forever . . .
