It's times like this I like to return to the Oddworld games.

Not just because I'm a silly fan with so much nostalgia for them, but because the narratives of the oppressed rising up and taking back their power is so deeply healing. It gives me a little spark of hope that things will get better, as tough as it is.

#i feel this particularly with stranger's wrath #is true with all the games #but theres something about the stranger's story of embracing a role and life he felt like he had to hide to conform to a society that never #wanted him in the first place that just . . . heals #and of course #the continued resistance of the rest of the naturalist species in the face of overwhelming oppression #idk it gives me hope and comfort #massive thanks to owi and lorne lanning for bringing these games into my life #Oddworld #hang in there guys

Ok so I made a post about the Blues Bar, right? And I know the bar wasn’t open until 1977 and I know it’s called the Blues Bar because of the Blues Brothers and all that, but please just ignore that because honestly who cares.

So imagine Lorne being in the bar having a drink by himself in a corner or something and then there’s this guy who just slides into the booth next to him. This guy starts chatting Lorne up and is putting a hand on his shoulder and then the hand moves to his arm and then his thigh. And this entire time Lorne is like super uncomfortable, like very much not a fan, but Lorne doesn’t do confrontation. Like in his mind, this guy is someone’s friend or something, so he feels like he needs to be polite and he would absolutely hate to make a big deal out of this.

And maybe one of the girls see him and are like “oh hell no” and sick all of the boys on ‘em. Alternatively!!! Maybe Lorne excuses himself to go to the bathroom to try and get away from him, but the guy follows Lorne into the bathroom and pins him to the wall because Lorne isn’t exactly a large guy, you know? But lucky for him one of the boys, maybe one with a crush on him perhaps, sees what’s happening and immediately decks the guy.

Evan drifts to a halt, blinking, and frowns at the field of wildflowers waving quietly in the breeze in front of him.

Something’s… tugging at his mind, something important about the shape, or… the colour of the plants…

It slips away with another light gust of wind that swirls through the field and past Evan’s face, and with the sight of Sheppard joining him up on the low rise they just climbed for a better vantage point.

Sheppard’s sweaty, and breathing a little hard, and Evan stops caring about a bunch of fucking flowers and whatever it is they were doing here because his skin is prickling and too hot under his clothes and he wants. He wants that, wants Sheppard, needs to do something about the heat burning through him from way more than just the alien sun in the sky.

“Sheppard,” Evan barks, because— because that’s what he does, right? He’s in command, he gives orders and people do what he tells them. “Get over here.”

Sheppard stares at him for a second, lips parted and a flush high in his cheeks— and does as he’s told. Something about that doesn’t… quite make sense, tugs awkwardly in the back of Evan’s mind, but he ignores it because all the parts that do matter right now make perfect sense.
