Putting the Gravity Falls characters into the Trolls universe just because I can

when logan joins a circus troupe to replace the previous lion tamer, wade immediately catches his attention. his costumes are bright and symbol-clashingly loud, and his presence on stage not only matches that energy, but it's unbelievably graceful. he hand-sews all his costumes, and oftentimes wears short sleeves and skirts with gloves and stockings. on rare days, though, he wears the jumpsuits.

it's different when the curtains are down and the stage lights are off. wade is friendly enough, but he never talks. some of the troupe don't even know if he can. they tell logan that he walks so quietly that he often scares them without meaning to, so they've taken to making him wear bells everywhere. (they kept having to increase the number of bells, because he's somehow insanely stealthy even with them on.)

he's just as strange as his clown persona, but in a subdued way. logan catches him sleeping in the most impossible places, mask and makeup off, toy unicorn always attached to him somehow. the first time logan sees wade without his mask is when he finds him sleeping, curled up like a cat, on the aerial hoop. it's how logan finds out that the scars he sees not covered by his stockings and gloves cover his whole body.

some of them tell logan in whispers that his house burned down as a kid, hence the burn scars. some speculate that he was the one who did it (logan finds out much, much, much later that this is true--he'd burned down the house of his abusive parents, fully intending to get burned down with them, before the firemen raached the scene and pulled him out. logan also finds out just how deep wade's self-loathing runs. it's during the very bad days that he wears the jumpsuits to cover himself up.)

logan initially planned to maintain a cordial distance from him. everyone else seems to be quietly fond of wade, but also slightly scared, and he can't say he blames them. but soon he can't escape wade.

he finds out that wade really loves his lions. he sits next to their cages and pets them, and plays with them on the training ground when logan isn't looking. he doesn't know how wade keeps getting them out of their cages, but he's seen wade asleep draped over them once. the lions seem to love him too.

logan eventually lets wade hang around whole he trains, and he talks to wade and can tell he listens. he can tell wade trusts him.

and one day wade opens up.

King Saul’s evil spirit, also known as the Ruach Ra’ah

I want to show some of the characters from my Saul retelling, The Book of Saul, and one of the major ones that take part of Saul’s life is Ze’ev, who is King Saul’s evil spirit but personified as a spirit always taking the form of a wolf in Saul’s visions.

I have yet to properly introduce him, but I will now lol.

I draw him frequently with Saul and I have a lot planned for him. He’s his own character instead of simply being the vaguely mentioned evil spirit that attacks Saul in the Bible lol. In the story, there’s some heavy lore that Ze’ev carries, and when he first actively interacts with Saul (right after being rejected as king), he becomes Saul’s conscience, and a guide, as he twists truths for his own benefit and amusement.

To summarize Ze’ev’s character, Ze’ev can be interpreted in many ways. He is basically the essence of Saul’s subconscious containing his deepest fears and regrets. Saul’s mentality will be reflected on Ze’ev who guides Saul, seeking truths he desperately yearns for, through 7 seven visions. No matter how hard Saul tries, he cannot escape the spirit always appearing before him. And also, those 7 visions are basically Saul’s hell with different truths revealed to him. Ze’ev finds so much joy in watching him suffer, yet he is able to have Saul always running back to him for help. Ze’ev knows very well that Saul has absolutely no one to turn to as he takes advantage of his helplessness.

As for Ze’ev’s appearance, he is usually a wolf, and there are two reasons why Ze’ev appears as a wolf. One being the tribe symbol for Benjamin, the tribe Saul’s from, which is represented with a wolf, and in the past I had called Ze’ev the “Wolf of Benjamin”, but I ended up changing his name lol. But the second reason resonates with Saul more deeply, where in the story, Saul is terrified of wolves due to traumatic experiences with them, and it comes off basically as a phobia Saul has (I believe the phobia for wolves is called “lupophobia”, that’s what Saul would have oof). But ironically, Saul is from Benjamin, and he’d be surrounded by wolf symbols as a benjaminite king ruling the place. And plus, Ze’ev is almost always a wolf, and if you recall what I’ve said, Ze’ev is the essence of Saul’s mind made up of his darkest fears and regrets while appearing in Saul’s visions.

I could literally go on and on about the evil spirit Ze’ev, but I would be crossing spoiler territory if I do loll.

But some small things about him: Ze’ev shapeshifts a lot, and his form is always moving in place. And he has a HUGE tail that constantly flows.

But lastly, this one means a lot to me lmaoo, but hear me out on this. When it comes to Ze’ev’s voice, I usually either have him speak with both a male and a female voice that intermingles at the same time (for reference, it’s just like Satan’s voice from that creepy Mark Twain clay animation movie. Look it up if you’re curious lol). Or, Ze’ev speaks as a distorted version of Saul’s voice.

Butttt, I can’t help but headcanon his voice as Will Wood when it comes to visualizing him in my head. Ze’ev sings as well (he sometimes sings to lure Saul), and whenever he sings, all I can hear is Will Wood. Ack, Will Wood!!! 🔥 And I know I’m being biased because I LOVE Will Wood (pls if you’re a Will Wood fan you gotta let me know 😭). But outside of the book, I imagine Ze’ev’s voice as Will Wood’s lolllll.

I already have a bunch of Saul and Ze’ev animatics planned, but if I do make an animatic/animation with Ze’ev, it’s going to be a Will Wood song.

i don’t have super deep canon lore for either of them.

classic is a scientist, their studies depend solely on what the universe calls for. they do dream of being a marine biologist some day when they reach the surface.

swap (nickname: Bluebird [Beebs for short..]) is a royal guard, they helped train blue. when they reach the surface, and royal guards are no longer needed they retire. if they end up with blue, they will be a stay at home baba.

Sure, he has a plan. It is, um… elegant in its simplicity, shall we say.

Listen, Theo is an intelligent guy if we measure by fact recall and ability to learn new skills, but he’s not much of a planner, more of a single-minded, self-destructive, do-or-die-er.

Thankfully for him, he’s not so poor he’s about to starve. Before his mother died, they were getting by. They were poor for the circles they traveled in - political players and dignitaries, where poverty is defined by the inability to maintain a large household staff instead of not knowing where your next meal is going to come from.

Theo has enough money stashed away to maintain his current hermit’s lifestyle, wherein his only real splurge is eating something other than canned food once every few months. So you don’t need to worry about him (for a while, anyway).

In theory, he could shore up his finances by doing what he is supposed to as Northcrest’s resident mage instead of going crazy alone in his house. Collecting fees or tax proceeds in exchange for using magic to help the public is how his family historically earned their keep, but he hasn’t exactly been holding up his end of the bargain. Many townspeople think he died at some point, so they’ve stopped bothering to set aside funds for work he’s not doing for reasons of apparent laziness, madness or decomposition. That's a little bit of money he could get his hands on, but he's too busy chasing his pipe-dream/nightmare instead.

Even if he did end up running out of money completely, he wouldn’t end up a corpse in a gutter anyway. He’d sooner die than let anyone take his manor from him. So he’s end up a corpse in a decaying old mansion instead! Much more dignified.
