I'm so tired but at the same time I just wanted to write that... TK8 may truly be one of the worst stories in all the games lol. Not as bad as TK6 (solely because I'm biased and TK6 ruined my favorite character) but like... with each game, it feels like they're just making more and more of a mess with the lore, and TK8 just felt like they stopped caring completely about consistency. And really? It is actually getting harder to care about the story because of that.

But why exactly? You see, it's just hard to care about anything at all. It's hard to even know what's going to happen next, and not in a good way either. Not, "they're so clever, they're good at surprising and subverting expectations!" But in a "they will literally just do anything even if it contradicts previously established lore." Like there are zero stakes. If a character dies, it means nothing. That character is very likely alive, and we'll even probably see them soon.

It's hard to even really like characters when they can be completely altered on a whim.

Like Claudio, who was clearly being set up to be a bad guy in next game.

Only for... that to not happen lmao. In fact, he's very good now. Which also just takes away stakes of Xiaoyu being placed in a situation where she could be harmed, and Kin having another adversary that isn't just Kaz. which yes, a lot of ppl prefer Claudio being a good guy after all. But again, it's a thing they completely disregarded.

Devil Jin is another example of a character just being completely changed for no good reason. How he went from a murderous, cannibalistic, highly violent and sadistic person, to... being a force of good, someone that was always trying to protect Jin but Jin was just denying it? Like yes, those two examples I show from Tekken 6 are technically "non canon", but it's clearly what Devil's character was supposed to be. He wasn't supposed to like Jin, he was ashamed of Jin, he saw Jin as a weakling. He was never meant to be his protector - he wanted Jin out of the picture so he can be free to do whatever he wants, which usually involves killing, maiming, and gaining power.

But see? A character can go from a parasitic force that corrupts the host, to being a guardian devil just because the writers decided they wanted to do that. Disregard to previous canon. The same thing happened to Jin in Tekken 6. Jin was a complete good guy, but then he was suddenly turned into a ruthless, heartless, warmonger all because Harada thought it was "cool", again - disregard to what Jin was, what his story meant, everything his character was.

Or how Zafina had Azazel in her arm, could've potentially became a more important character because of this new power she possessed. Only... for Kazuya to take it away from her at practically the start of the game. A story for her character that went nowhere.

Because of that, it's just so hard to even become attached to a character because you just don't know when they're going to be completely changed into something they weren't... or when their stories will be dropped and they'll go nowhere. (Paul from being a comedic relief who had amazing feats of strength, to just becoming a complete joke with no wins and that nobody takes seriously. Or Asuka, obviously meant to be Jin's cousin and even hinted at possessing Jun's powers of purification. Only... for her to become Lili's sidekick and completely irrelevant to the story. Even Lili gets more respect than she does in TK8)

Then of course, with characters not being able to stay dead... not even for a single game. It's becomes more difficult to care when a character "dies" or is "about to die" when you know nothing is gonna happen. The character will come back, regardless of how they died, just because the writers want to use them again. Even if it means ruining the weight of the other games, or the developments characters had.

There's also the problem with the game itself becoming too saturated with jokes. I've spoke about this somewhat recently, but before, a lot of the characters were allowed serious endings or side stories. (Like check out Tekken 4's endings, I think almost every character had a serious ending with real character development in that one). But now the majority of the character endings are just either fluff or wacky shenanigans. Which again, makes you feel less invested in the characters when nothing serious is actually going on, and also makes it feel like the writers just... don't care as much anymore.

And I get that Tekken is a fighting game, but like... it still has a story it "proudly" presents. Therefore, it's still something people are liable to get invested in, and become disappointed when all canon is thrown out the window. It just makes you wonder what's the point of caring about what happens if it's gonna be undone in the next game. It makes you wonder why care about a character when their story, or even the character themselves, can be changed completely next game?

Of course, I love Tekken, and I am interested in seeing how crazy it can get. But I will say, I am becoming less invested with each game lol! TK4 had amazing writing and aesthetics, and I really wish the game could've kept following in TK4's footsteps rather than going completely off the rails like this. Really, TK's writing peaked at TK2-TK4, then it started going downhill from TK5.

Happy Birthday Perrin!!! It's really been 10 whole years... it's honestly astounding to even say this. Lil bro's so old...

Ok! if you clicked the keep reading button, expect to be here for a while, for i will be walking you through every single design and aus in this drawing and the history behind it!!

Perrin, or his old name, Peater, is a silly, bastardly little boy that has the magical powers to make people's dreams into reality. But that's just his canon lore. He also used to be a winged swordsman, a kirby with a repeater hat, and a little alien that escaped a lab. In different universes, he's a phantom thief, a god, a demon, or just a simple schoolboy!

Essentially, I use him for almost any story ideas that i find cool. He's one of the first ocs that I made and he gets involved in almost anything due to him being the favorite oc. His personality, still, has been very consistent, but you should just read his Toyhouse page if you wanna learn more because I don't want this to get any longer than it already is rn

Ok! Let's get started on the first design!!

~ Kirby Era ~

Before Perrin was a human, he was a puffball!

I used to be a huge PvZ and Kirby fan (still is) and so Perrin was born as a combination of both of those things. The general gist is that its a Kirby with a Peashooter hat. Simple enough.

The left design however, was I think another concept for Perrin that I had earlier or around the same time as Kirbypeater (this is the name for the Kirby version of Perrin) So I also considered that design a Perrin design as well. Also it's just super fucking funny because of how much it stands out. It straight up looks like a Mary Sue.

These two designs have absolutely zero lore, most of their lore will be coming with the next designs!!

2015 was honestly peak Kirbypeater era in terms of development. I drew him a LOT and gave him some personality and powers.

There were also a lot of design variations aside from these four (ignore the human one for now) most of them comes down to his bandanna color, his shoes, and whether he's wearing the repeater hat or not.

I was also a big Strikeforce Squad fan during that time so I reaally reaaally wanted him to be part of the lore and be a member lmao

You can notice that I changed the Peashooter to Repeater, which is my favorite plant in pvz. Around the end I changed it to Primal Peashooter, but that change was something I ended up not approving of in the future.

The katana is inspired by Zoro from One Piece, which is my fav OP character. His swordsman skill came extremely early on. The green hair guy (the one that got hit by the pea) is just mid 2015 Kirbypeater without the hat. Sometimes he has black hair however, which hairstyle was based off of Len Kagamine/Glutamine (the utaite)

~ 2016 - 2017 ~ The Blue Bitch Era

Sadly, the Kirbypeater era has now come to an end, because shortly after 2015, I decided to transition from drawing little funny kirby creatures to little funny boys.

Okay, let's go back to the guy riding the roadroller, because that was Perrin's first human design !!

The roadroller was a reference to this vocaloid song, if you didn't know already.

The first human design takes the black hair design from Kirbypeater, and the sweater was clearly inspired from my Undertale obsession back then 😔 little did he know that sweater was gonna stay for so damn long...

The part that did not stay long however were the green eyes and the black hair, that drawing was mostly a proof of concept only and didn't really reflect on what he'd become later.

ngl, this drawing is pretty damn good for a first time. I think i really didn't want to screw up back then.

THEN OUT OF NOWHERE?? HIS SWEATER THEN TURNED BLUE!!

I call this little era the blue bitch era because the sweater he wore turned blue for no damn reason, like no, you're suppose to be green, not blue... the disappointment i hold is immense right now.

Other than the blue, his iconic green hair first appeared during this time!! I also changed his eyes to brown, maybe as a way to make his design more grounded to real life? at least i think thats what little me was going at.

The second picture is the first AU i made for Perrin, based off of my playthrough of Pokemon Crystal where I named my pokemon after my Sony Sketch friends (hence Pokesketch.) Perrin would be the trainer and yeah.

I have no fucking idea what I was cooking for the third reference sheet, I think i wanted to imitate the ref sheet style a friend had and ended up making something INSANELY cringe. the undertale fan stink radiates off of that drawing and you guys are free to make fun of it as much as you want.

this design was made as a sort of inside joke between my friends one day, where all of us just decided to have the same profile pic and name as this one other friend. the pfp (center) was of their ink sans oc and it was fucking funny as hell

it lasted like one day but i think that design is too good to not include in the art piece. you can see him fighting the chara perrin guy as a little nod to their similar inspirations #iloveundertale

~ 2018 - 2019 ~ Ninja Perrin makes an appearance ! Also these weird guys are here for some reason.

This era is kinda weird because there's nothing really stands out in terms of changes. But that's ok! Life isn't always just bumps and... idk where i was going with that uh anyways NINJA PERRIN

his swordsman ass is back again and now as a funny ninja guy!! honestly i cant recall lore wise why he was a ninja but i think it mightve been based off of naruto (i dont even watch naruto) also wow look guys his sweater finally stopped being blue! and now he has shorts!!!

also scratch that entire part about me saying there wasnt any significant changes because there was a time where i almost made perrin's hair NOT GREEN. that's right. absolutely BLASPHEMOUS. i shouldve been pelted with rocks for even considering such things.

but being real, i think a part of me back then felt? insecure about the fact that perrin's hair was an unnatural color for a while? green especially was not a common color to use back then so i felt like people didn't like him for that reason so i changed it to brown for a while to see if i liked it. uh spoiler alert i didnt and i changed it a month later i believe.

also you might be wondering why i only drew mid 2019 perrin wearing the ninja outfit and not early 2018. that is because that one drawing of ninja perrin from 2019 got meme'd to fucking DEATH by my friend because it had a funny face. i was forever scarred and so i decided to draw it as a funny reminder of that time.

Top 5 favorite videogame series?

5) Megaman. Very large, very varied, much deeper lore than one would think, it has something to offer to everyone. My favorite style is the Zero one, which I find the most replayable and satisfying.

4) Ace Attorney. Peak example of a series that combines zany tone with gripping emotional stories and memorable characters. Also the gameplay is simple enough to attract newcomers and engaging enough to make them stay.

3) Metroid. Probably the most consistent quality wise, I can only point to a few mediocre titles in a sea of excellent ones :P super fun gameplay combined with an unique atmosphere, that goes from oppressive to empowering. Also Samus wife of all time.

2) Castlevania. Oh don't mind me going insane over the lore and parallels and story threads and the uplifting tone of humanity defeating persevering evil <3 also yeah the games are fun, and overall I'd also say the quality is consistent despite the gameplay not as much lmao.

1) Sonic. Even if recently I've been falling off, which I regret. Nothing can erase that it has been a huge chunk of my life, the fun I had through the years, how it shaped me and my tastes :) also yeah the games are overall fun no matter what.

bg3 is the first larian game to have such a popularity within a non-male playerbase that it's sometimes easy to forget the core larian fandom that is just your average dudebro who games every other day with friends or by himself

these people are not interested in building, learning or understanding most of the world around them beyond looting and strategizing for combat. rpgs are mostly marketed to the dudes that like some funny dialogue options and the option to "fuck general woman #55". that's the rpg part for them. that and thinking they understand the story by never reading any piece of lore, interacting with npcs or trying to comprehend the main plot of the game

bg3 is the first game that actively markets itself as being wholly accepting, diverse and full of romance options. if you open ANY reddit thread that deals with any character discussion, it will consist of 60% men complaining about how they're "forced" to romance their male npcs or 20% men only liking shadowheart bc she's the "depressed meek one" of the group and the only conventionally attractive one bc obviously karlach is a butch lesbian and lae'zel is just ugly and rude. minthara is fine you see, because she's big drow mommy uwu but her character? nah she's a misandrist cunt she can die otherwise

-ok so theres this weird bit where we learn Stacy is ultra protective of her kids dating. There is some discussion about how that is super weird and doesn't make any sense to toby. Then some more discussion about how a lot of Stacy's past doesn't add up. Specifically, stacy's grandparents were purebloods (who hated her), which actually makes zero sense biologically considering how little fae blood Stacy has. Also worth considering, though not mentioned, TWO of stacy's children are powerful seers which makes no sense from what we know about thin blood in canon.

I think this *might* connect to my ongoing suspicions of Marcia as a character, who is a thinblooded changeling who consistently keeps showing up. Including in this book when she really didn't need to. At this point she has met multiple Firstborn and they initially seem alarmed/disturbed when they see her for no apparent reason. 14 books since her intro and we know nothing about her past or even her heritage, which is unheard of in this series. When that kind of info is obscured its always because there's a big twist associated with it. There is something going on there.

-speaking of. Um. Simon and Sylvester's bio mom was a human? Excuse me? What? Hello?

-sylvester refused to claim her as their legal mother so simon (angry about it) had to reject her too. A whole new layer to the "fuck Sylvester" cake and brings some interesting perspective to him stepping in as a paternal figure for toby, a homeless changeling? What the fuck, Sylvester?

-this is also one reason why not evil!Simon isn't a total asshole to Toby.

I immediately went and skimmed the two books he was in and caught two instances of foreshadowing.

In Ashes of Honor (#6) when toby meets him she describes him as familiar in a generic way. Like, she recognizes his voice and face immediately but can't place it.. This is never brought up again. In the final chapter of this book he is described the same way, as generic yet strangely familiar. So. A closer reading might be in order to see how other fae behave around him. It's possible Toby has a stronger reaction since he's her grandfather (and is the perspective character.)

And yeah, the fucking THROWAWAY "lady, let alone" line from The Brightest Fell (#11). At the time that just seemed awkward, or I guess a gratuitous Tam Lin reference. Fuck me. Also explains how he didnt implode or die from being trapped in Annwn.

-and it makes sense there isnt much more than that because it seems "officer thornton" doesnt know he's oberon. Like it's basically the situation Simon was in??? There's a throwaway "why in the world was Oberon disguised as a human and couldn't remember anything?" line but it isn't explored, so I assume its addressed in a future book.

OOF that’s so hard, and it’s... flexible? Like I mean, who I list as my favorites is gonna vary from game to game you know, but since you didn’t specify a game I’m going to assume you mean consistent favorites that I’ll hope/get excited for every game. SO in that case I would say:

1. Sub-Zero (has been my main since I got into MK, something about him just clicked for me and I never left. Except in MKX when I left to main Cassie hgghjdf but given what she becomes in MK11 I never should have abandoned my boy I’ll never make that mistake again)

2. Kitana

3. Mileena

4. Jade (for the record, Kitana, Mileena, and Jade are all very close)

5. Noob Saibot (some day...... some day he will be written well.... I speak that into existence)

6. Kung Jin (I hesitated to put him on here because he’s only been in one game so who knows what will become of him, but whatever, for now he belongs on here somewhere. I love this guy)

Cassie Cage - she was my main and my new favorite in MKX, but I really dislike what they’ve done with her for MK11, and tbh it’s retroactively made me like MKX!Cassie less, since I liked her mainly for what she represented to me and for the promise I thought she had. That’s kind of gone now

Jacqui and Takeda - I thought of the Kombat Kids as a package deal and the fact that they’re not all back and the two that are back barely interact in the game’s story has me feeling less interested in Kombat Kids as a whole, which is a shame because I really did love them, and MK11!Jacqui is still pretty great. Kung Jin still makes the list because he’s gay and as a fellow gay I appreciate the rep

D’Vorah - yeah yeah she killed a lot of fan favorites but she’s easily one of the best designs they’ve ever come up with and she’s cool af

Sonya Blade - I like her a lot, and I like using her in pretty much every game, but I can’t say she’s someone I get particularly excited for most of the time

Johnny Cage and Kung Lao - Same as Sonya, really

Kollector - lmao yeah so if we’re talking just MK11, I would actually put him in my top 5 because I think he’s super fun to play as plus y’all know I’m a shameless monster fucker. But if we’re talking the whole series, I don’t think he’s one of the more interesting characters in general. it’s a little mini-con that modelled it’s appearance off of Ratchet’s frame type, only of course, massively scaled down lmao 

for anyone unfamiliar with all the Arms Micron stuff, oh god, here we go

alright, ok, so: 

the Autobots have a bunch of mini-cons who started out as benign Cybertronian objects and weapons, but after being contaminated by the energon found on Earth (which is saturated with Unicron’s dark energy), this gave the objects/weapons some degree of sentience and the ability to transform 

the implications of this are honestly massive (objects/weapons of Cybertronian origin having the ability to develop a spark/processor/t-cog/etc. is WILD) 

but because the USA-centric / Western audiences don’t usually get toy-based gimmicks/tie-ins such as this (for a variety of reasons), Hasbro never marketed it outside of Japan 

it probably doesn’t help that TFP never had a particularly strong toy release in the West (in comparison to prior Transformers media and the related toy lines like for TFA), and it’s still bizarre to me that they kinda flubbed a lot of the TFP figure releases 

because the TFP series was a huge fan hit and the character designs are still well liked and SIGH I wonder how much of the S3 fuckery played a role in some of that towards the middle/end of the series, idk people signed NDAs so we’ll never really know lol 

but anyway, Takara Tomy handles all the Transformers stuff in Japan anyway (for the most part) so it was sort of left in their hands to do whatever with, within the Japanese/Asian Regional toy market 

so there was never a lot of really coherent lore built up about the Arms Microns beyond the toy back-of-the-box copy from Takara Tomy, as well as little bits and bobs here and there from Japan-release only TFP shorts (I think, anyway? there were a few TV spots for a couple channels, if I remember correctly, but I’m not sure so feel free to check me on that)

either way, because there’s no super coherent lore beyond the central premise of “items that come to life animated by Earth’s contaminated energon”, and because it wasn’t integrated in any detail into any canonical lore in the Western material, there is SO MUCH that could be done with this concept but we don’t have any further info to work with 

the implications that the Arms Microns were granted sentience and are essentially fully functional miniature Cybertronians via the CORRUPTED ESOTERIC POWER OF EARTH’S POISONOUS UNICRON-SATURATED ENERGON is wild as hell, 

and kind of makes me think that this concept may have been developed a little further removed from the core TFP Hasbro team (I’m not sure how much input or back and forth there may have been between Hasbro and Takara Tomy about this stuff) or at an earlier stage in series development overall before certain key consistencies were developed for the series, like dark energon being toxic / raising the dead, etc.

because that would at least make it make a little sense, sort of. 

but there’s like zero elaboration of any canon beyond the basic premise, so nobody has a clue, really, as far as I’m aware anyway 

like even the TFWiki is like, yeah, we don’t know either lol 

Ratchet Spanner and the other Arms Microns with robot modes resembling larger show-cast characters are considered separate characters by this wiki on the grounds that the only fiction we have on them is the over-arcing backstory of the Arms Microns: non-living weapons were exposed to special Earth energon and turned into living miniature robots. Obviously, being a new form for Ratchet doesn't really work with this. So until something official says otherwise...

Obviously, we never really got anything official, as far as I am aware, and since Arms Micron wasn’t a thing in the Western regional market, it just sorta was ignored altogether 

soooo what I’m saying is that because we don’t have any canonical information otherwise, 

feel free to have fun imagining a tiny mini-bot version of Ratchet running around the base, whenever it’s not being used as an actual wrench LMAO 

because technically, since this is at least canonical enough to be a Whole Thing, that is 100% something that happened at some point 

it is also very fun to imagine “living tools” in Ratchet’s work area 

like does he put out a bowl of energon for the mini-cons, like an automatic hamster water feeder thing or something, or just a rectangular tray-type cube of energon like a fucking trough LOL 

or are there a bunch of tiny energon cubes and he just rounds them all up for like breakfast refuelling like a boarding school teacher trying to get all the kids fed before everyone has to start doing shit 

if he “loses a tool” he can just like, call it’s name and it’ll show up like “me!” and just transform into a screwdriver or whatever

fair enough though, the tone of Arms Micron may or may not have worked in other regional markets/with other audiences 

obviously the tone of the Arms Micron stuff as well as the provided (but limited) backstory was probably just deemed not workable with the tone of the show as it was presented to other regional audiences outside of Japan 

like how would you market Arms Microns in the USA alongside the vibe of the series as it was presented to Western audiences as being an intentionally more tonally heavy series 

I mean TFP is a show in which two main characters commit a very blatant war crime and it’s framed as a good idea and totally okay to do, and nobody ever talks about the fact that they had a literal child actively assist in facilitating the carrying out of said war crime 

so I feel like Arms Micron as a whole thing is maybe a little tonally dissonant for the Western audiences, who are like, “hey remember when Bulkhead beat Starscream to death that one time and it was scary as shit” because yeah 

I mean the Japanese TFP release is absolutely fascinating to me because they made some very specific major changes that are just so interesting since they deviate so far from pretty much every other release/translation/edit of the series as intended for broadcast as far as I know 

so it’s pretty clear that the Japanese release of TFP was a very different approach overall, and it’s not surprising the toy line also deviated massively to cater to that regional market/audience -- it’s not an uncommon thing at all, but it’s a little uncommon for the differences to be so extreme, which is why I feel like TFP is a little bit of a special case of sorts 

like infamously, everything about Airachnid in the Japanese release of TFP is just so incredibly, bewilderingly far from any other regional release as far as I’m able to tell (I don’t have access to English subtitled non-English language releases of the series despite my best efforts to find as many as possible, aside from the Russian TFP dub which I’ve watched in entirety on YouTube even though I still can’t understand 99% of it lmao I’m doin’ my best)

TL;DR I love Arms Micron Ratchet Spanner, but everything about Arms Micron in general is somewhat bewildering, and I fully admit this is because I am nowhere near as familiar with the Japanese TFP content as one would need to be in order to contextualise this properly within the region-specific lore and the shifted series tone overall due to various translation and regionalisation changes 

TL;DR 2: there is canonically a tiny Ratchet mini-con who is himself a wrench and I think that’s neat

You're giving too much credit to Warren Ellis lmao. dude wanted to name Godbrand "Mathias Cronqvist" become somehow he missed that it was Dracula's human name, and you think he understood, or even cared about, Hector's narrative significance?

I can believe that the original plan for him was to slowly become the Hector we see in CoD, in the same way Alucard was meant to be perceived as younger than his SoTN self. That makes sense, in theory. While the real Hector would never consider culling as a good compromise, N!Hector displays some morals and doubts as early as episode 2: "All I'm saying is that our goals can be met without gleefully paddling in the blood of children." You can already see the contrast between him and N!Isaac, who is 100% loyal and ready to throw hands at anyone who dares to question Dracula: "No, no, no! Dracula will decide, not you. Threaten me all you like, I will die for him, if I don't kill you first. You do not question my loyalty." So this checks.

(also this is the mother of nitpicks but i hate how N!Isaac just calls Dracula by name. It's "Lord Dracula", asshole, at least be consistent with your bootlicking.)

Carmilla's inclusion threw everything off. She turned a perfectly good story of Hector slowly coming to terms with his own humanity and choosing to flee rather than become a weapon of mad slaughter, into a shitty GoT ripoff where she basically played politics and manipulations by taking advantage of the Lord's weakness to further her own agenda. And she used Hector's doubts to turn him on her side, stripping him of his agency. And then she humiliated him because look at the stronk kween as she beats the absolute shit of this weak, helpless, defenseless man. And after that, Hector derailed too much to even approach his original storyline: Ellis was too busy jerking off to his mommy fetish to care about an actual character arc, and the Deats allowed it because uhhhhh kojima already brought the horny we're just continuing her work :V

(Dracula doesn't look good either, btw, as he simply let Carmilla go after she humiliated him in front of the court and did what she wanted out of apathy because muh depression. Same for Isaac, who understood that making Carmilla happy would not be beneficial to them but went along with it because "she will stop causing mischief". No wonder Carmilla thinks all men are idiots :V oh but Hector, the only one who actually cared about unifying the squabbling generals, is the one called "a simple creature". fuck you.)

Speaking of which, it doesn't help that, as early as S2, Hector was seen in-universe as the weak link of the court. Dracula and Isaac have zero respect for him and constantly question his intelligence, a complete 180° from canon where Hector was Dracula's special babyboy favorite and Isaac was torn between respect and resentment. My questions about what the hell is he even doing there aside, I honestly don't know what was the point of that: I can see a parallel with Lenore later on, who also seems to not be very respected by her besties despite her alleged cunning, but since I doubt Lenore was in the plans, I can only see that as Ellis deciding to weaken Hector's character for... shit and giggles?

That being said. It sure is interesting how Dracula was treated as a poor grieving husband who totally deserved his happy ending with his happy wife, Isaac was given a whole speech about How Much He Has Changed and how super cool and badass and awesome he has become, while Hector, after being literally dehumanized and raped, only "evolved" by... deciding he had to bring Dracula back. And he was stopped by the ever so wise Isaac. Oh but who gives a shit about Curse of Darkness and its lore, it's just an aggressively mid PS2 game, totally irrelevant, we can mangle it as much as we want who cares about the stupid games they're old anyway hahahahahhahahaa
