i've been listening to sri lakshmi ji's aarti all morning and it occurred to me. the reason "praise the sisters" and just "the sisters" in general sounds odd to me is b/c in hinduism, ppl take names or have different monikers to invoke them. so it'd be more like "jai jai sindhurava!" etc or they would probably say address them as a collective as "tridevi", as though they're three in one entity, which is a common theme for gods and goddesses in hindu mythology

there's a late 2000s singer named himesh reshammiya who always says at the start of his concernts, "jai mata di, let's rock!"

and "jai mata di"/"jai mata ki" or "tridevi ki jai" sound a lot more natural to me than "praise the sisters!". for context, "jai" means "victory," but in this context, it's often translated to "glory to the mother goddess" (jai mata di, mata means mother but when ppl say "jai mata di", they are referring to a mother goddess figure)

for those curious, sri lakshmi ji ki aarti goes like this:

Om Jai Lakshmi Mata, Mayya Jai Lakshmi Mata (Glory to the Mother goddess lakshmi, Mother victory to you)

Tum ko nishdin sevat, Mayya Ji ko nishdin sevat (To you, we devote service everyday; To Mother, we devote ourselves everyday) Har Vishnu Vidhata! Om Jai Lakshmi Mata (Lord Vishnu meditates on you; Glory to the Mother goddess Lakshmi!)

the prayer goes on with a lot of beautiful lyrics, but one of my favorites translates to "in you, anything becomes possible". it's a very hopeful, spiritual feeling.

on another note, it feels strange to see turkish coded folks pray to anyone but allah, but this is where i shrug and say it wasn't important to the story the devs were trying to tell.
