Lord Pinkleton in broadway cinderella is French and my only logic for this because I still haven’t watched it is that he has one line in a song where he sounds like the peas from Veggietales and those peas are French.

This is probably totally niche because it’s Rodgers and Hammersteins Cinderella, but specifically the one I’m working on at my local theatre. Characters are probably played different for each show. But god the songs are ADDICTING. I have not stopped looping them in my head.

Random: In high school we did Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s Cinderella for our yearly musical and I played the character Lord Pinkleton, well the musical director always came up with little nicknames for the cast and she accidentally let Lord Pink Daddy slip. I was called that for the rest of the year and during a live, recorded performance, audience and all, the lead male called me Lord Pink Daddy.

It’s shot from the very front row of the stalls at the side so, although this causes a lot of problems for the brave person who filmed it, we DO get many nice close-ups and a chance to see the show from quite an unusual angle at times! Very clear sound throughout.

(1) Ok now I have another idea based off the DR kids being in "Cinderella". Ok what if Leon or Souda or one of the other characters played Lord Pinkleton (He's the guy who announces that the PRINCE IS GIVING A BALL) starts to sing "the prince is giving a ball" but either on accident or on purpose, he sings "THE PRINCE IS SHOWING HIS BALLS!!!" Now imagine that the rest of the cast joins in. Taka (who plays Jean-Michel) tries to stop them, but the ensemble says "shh he's showing his balls"

okay i’m going to highlight some points from tonight and then hit the hay because i have to take my grandma somewhere literally in like four hours SO:

the choreo changed in the prince is giving a ball, the waltz, the act one closer, stepsisters lament, and basically any other scene in act two involving the staircase. the staircase for some reason?? wasn’t there. it’s really bugging me that i don’t know why. the only thing i can think of is maybe they cut it for the last performance of each stop because they have to get it packed up and ready to go to the next venue idk.

during the prince is giving a ball the part where ella sings “i wish a lot of things i’ve never wished before” as she’s walking toward lord pinkleton to get the invitation, marie is moving her hand forward with her, like she’s magically pushing ella towards him in order to get one.

ella is the life of the party at every party i am not taking suggestions

usually in the kiss after the waltz, it’s topher who initiates the kiss with ella, and it usually catches her off guard. this time, ella looked to have initiated it and she literally cups his cheek in her hand it was so soft.

also when she says “this is all so wonderful, you are so wonderful” she cups his cheeks again wow i was so soft for their dynamic

lukas was an “eh” topher. his acting was really good and his comedic timing was great. he reminded me a lot of joe carroll’s topher. but he kinda fell short on his voice. i think it was just more his technique than his actual voice because i enjoyed it at times and absolutely hated it at others.

kaitlyn was obviously a beautiful ella and i think what i loved most about her was that her ella felt everything extremely deeply. most actresses who play ella do, but they usually focus on her optimism, her happiness and kindness and it’s ella’s sadness that they really portray as her feeling it very deeply. kaitlyn did that too, but she also played a very angry ella. the scene after madame tore her dress, she was so angry and upset. it makes me so happy because it showed that ella feels anger just like everyone else. just because she’s soft and kind doesn’t mean she doesn’t get angry.

oh god speaking of madame ripping ella’s dress, sarah smith’s madame got so much more angry in this scene than i saw her get last time. she was really yelling at ella and by the time she ripped the bottom of her dress and threw it back at ella, she was standing right over her and i was honestly thinking that she was going to hit her. they really give a good view of the emotional abuse ella goes through, but due to the family nature of the show, they just brush over the physical abuse. this is the first time they really showed it, because i was honestly convinced that she was going to hurt her, the way she was standing above her like that.

after do i love you because you’re beautiful, when ella begins to run off again, topher is physically holding her back from running away. he grabs her waist and tries to get her to stay and you can see how she kind of melts into him and doesn’t want to leave. i mean wow honestly they were very physical with each other i was living for every second of it.

when ella said yes to the proposal, topher picked her up off the ground and hugged her i was so shook no pair has ever done that before

i might remember more tomorrow but again if u want the audio hmu. there was a little girl beside me who was talking a lot through act two, but it shouldn’t take much quality away from it. i’ll post some tracks tomorrow.

CASTING DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT: We are seeking all ethnicities, types, and genders for all roles. Where gender-specific pronouns are used, they are used to describe the gender identity/presentation of the characters and not the gender of the actors playing those characters. TUMBLERS (FOX & RACCOON): To play characters 20s-30s, including the Fox footman and Raccoon carriage driver. ANY ETHNICITY. ELLA: (Seeking Understudy Only) 20's. ANY ETHNICITY. Beautiful and expressive traditional musical theatre soprano mix. An elegant dancer, she must have strong dance and partnering skills and great comedic timing. Though no one notices her beneath her rags and quiet demeanor, she is opinionated, charismatic, passionate, funny, and effortlessly beautiful. Idealistic and hopeful, she courageously challenges the prince to change the policies in his kingdom – and helps him discover who he truly is. Always her late father’s daughter, she is determined to see the good in everyone despite her hardships and suffering. We see her blossom into a confident woman.

GABRIELLE: (Seeking Understudy Only) 20’s. ANY ETHNICITY. Must have great comic timing. Strong and expressive traditional musical theatre voice. Ella’s stepsister and daughter of Madame. Encouraged by her mother and sister to value material wealth and social status, she unenthusiastically joins them in their abrasive behavior. She has always followed rules but her awkward exterior hides a fiery revolutionary spirit. Passionate, empathetic, and witty, she is drawn to Ella and Jean-Michel. Ironically aware that she doesn’t fit in with her family.

LORD PINKLETON: (Seeking Understudy Only) Plays 30’s to 40’s. ANY ETHNICITY. The Lord Chancellor’s right-hand man. Announces royal balls, banquets, and even the weather to the villagers. Must have great comic timing. Powerful operatic tenor to an A.

PREPARATION: Please be prepared to dance in form-fitting dance attire.  Ladies, bring heels and ballet flats.  Men, bring jazz shoes or character shoes.  Prepare 16 bars of a LEGIT TRADITIONAL MUSICAL THEATRE song that shows your range in case you are asked to sing. I was gonna be mad but I checked it out to see and I guess the voice actors are Swedish and they’re pretending to be French. I was about to crash out if my entire childhood was a lie and the peas were Swedes

my point stands about Lord Pinkleton sounding like the French/Swedish peas though.

Lord Pinkleton in broadway cinderella is French and my only logic for this because I still haven’t watched it is that he has one line in a song where he sounds like the peas from Veggietales and those peas are French.
