Research and Fact Checking on the "Content" Section, especially on lesser known topics like the musical or the cut content! (Pspspsps calling the five of you who actually know what the musical is)

RESEARCH AND FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCES OF THE ONCELER FANDOM'S EARLY DAYS!! I joined this place in 2023 so I don't know much about the early days of the fandom, and I want to know SO much more than I do! I want to know the scope, everything from the in-jokes to the aus to the deoncelerization. If you've been in this fandom since 2012 I would LOVE to hear from you!

Last but not least, I want the end of this video to be a love letter to this community, sharing firsthand experiences of what the Onceler as a character and the fandom means to you! I want to conduct interviews with people over discord (which is going to be a lot less fancy than it sounds so dw, it's not going to be an interrogation LMAO)

Specifics are subject to change but one thing will stay, I want to end the video to be made out of raw Love and Appreciation for this fandom, showcasing the side of this little corner of the internet that people who brush it off as mindless cringe don't see. All I've seen from this community is love and support and I want to be the video essayist who shows it for what it is!

At the moment I don't really have much of a plan (I'm not a very good planner lol), but if enough interets garners I know it'll help me streamline my motivation and come up with a game plan!

Basics

Hi!!!

My name is Kesar (or any other variant of the name Caesar is fine to call me!) and I am 15. I am neurodivergent. I am an Asian-European (India and Sweden!), Hindu, and my pronouns are he/they!

Interests and Likes

I have a hyperfixation/special interest (I don't know which to use because I'm in denial about being autistic LMAO) of the Mediterranean, mostly Italy and Spain but also France, Portugal, Egypt, Greece, etc!

Languages

Due to my interest, I have taught myself Italian all on my own and I study Spanish at school since 2020, so I can speak them both at a good level.

All of the languages I speak as well as some more info on my history with them:

Swedish, I speak it every day and a bit at home

Hindi, I speak it every day at home with my family

English, I speak it here and I consume a lot of English media. Also I went to an international school for a couple of years.

Spanish, I've been learning it at school. Ever since I started learning it I've been the best in the class (this is very much a flex, I am very proud of the fact). I speak it at a very good level but I'm not close to fluent.

Italian, I am very proud of that I speak it because I learnt it all on my own using primarily music. I started learning it in 2021 but then took a LONG break for almost 2 years and in 2023 I got back on track and learnt it so well I'm almost at the same level at it as I am at Spanish hahaha

French, as I speak Spanish and Italian it wasn't that hard for me to get a grasp at French. I'm definitely not good at it and am best at written French, not spoken, but I understand enough to say I know it. Also, I can carry a conversation in French so. Yeah. I also really like Lupin.

Urdu, as I speak Hindi I understand Urdu well. Of course there are words I don't know, but since I understand so much of it and I speak it better than I speak Spanish or Italian I had to include it.

Music

My favourite song artists are Marco Mengoni and MIKA. They are my top 2. I love them so much.

I also listen to Mahmood, Måneskin, Queen, The Lonely Island, Lady Gaga, Kali Uchis, Megan Thee Stallion, Veronica Maggio, Shreya Ghoshal, and a lot more.

Apart from that I like English music from 2000 to the late 2010s. I also like Hindi music, rap (i listen to a LOT of Megan Thee Stallion, she's such a queen), Eurovision (although I am not supporting them this year due to them including Israel, Free Palestine🇵🇸), Hispanic music, Francophone music, Italian music and Swedish music. I also enjoy classical, both South Asian and European.

TV

I love TV! My favourites are dramedies. I like comedy a lot. My favourite type of show would be sitcoms because I understand them and I grew up with them and I like their humour. Here are TV shows I very, very strongly like in no particular order:

Psych, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Community, 1899, Mythic Quest, Lupin, Monk, SNL (Saturday Night Live) and probably more that I just don't remember right now.

I have also watched a lot of other things, but this is all that comes to mind.

There are films that I really like, and most of them I have watched more than a few times. Like there were literally periods when I would just keep rewatching these:

The Kung Fu Panda film series, The Hotel Transylvania film series, The Lorax (specifically the Italian dub), The Shrek film series, and once again probably many more.

Other stuff I like:

Doraemon, Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse & Across The Spiderverse, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan (2020), Smiley (2022), Saiki K (TV series, I haven't been able to read the manga :/), etc.

Books

Mostly I read fact books, in middle school the librarian hated me for (metaphorically) eating up all the books on ancient Egypt, but I also have a few books I really like!

I love Rick Riordan. My favourite from him is definitely The Kane Chronicles but I also like PJO. I'm TKC all the way, though.

I also like Geronimo & Thea Stilton as well as Diary of a Wimpy Kid. They give me comfort.

I have a lot of queer books I bought for the sole reason of them being queer but I haven't read them yet hahahaha. I'm almost finished with Friday I'm In Love by Camryn Garrett!

I am also reading Babel by R. F. Kuang and Marina by Carlos Ruiz Zafón!

also about falling in love with never seeing someone, I think it’s possible but not ideal, like I fell in love with that one online friend without knowing what they looked like and then a couple months in I knew what they looked like and it didn’t affect how I felt, but also as we kept talking more quirks started popping up and we’ve never called or FaceTimed but rn there’s some stuff about her that I’m like yeahh I’m kinda glad she didn’t feel the same way. I think it’s possible but not ideal for something to last in most cases. This is after talking for 2 years, Spencer fell in love with her because he didn’t get to that point

Hii! i see you're really into the Lorax musical and I'm a little confused about something

I saw the musical back in 2021 during the quarantine, on zoom. It seems to be the same but also not? It was also at London's old vic, the Lorax puppet looks the same, but the actors are different, and a lot of things seems different too, but it might only be because it was during the quarantine so they had to adapt it to be recordable, maybe some actors where unavailable too, or simply because it's more recent. Tbh I don't know much about the musical so :')

I was wondering if you knew anything about it :3 if you want to, I have a Google drive with a few pictures and videos (very bad quality tho, I had to record my laptop's screen with my phone ahah)

And yes, as far as we know, the 2021 version was slightly different than the 2015-2018 ones, there's a new cast there (well, kinda, some of the actors from original stageplay are still there, Richard Katz for example), slightly different decorations and scenes (sadly, from what i saw, it looks very "cheap" compared to original, but i really hope they bring the OG stageplay back someday, they really had some crazy props featured there), and i also have a feeling that they've changed some parts of the script as well, but i am interested in all versions and content i could possibly find, so yeah, feel free to drop me a link :3

Anon, you have opened a can of worms. I wrote more than 400 and that's still not all I wanted to say but it was getting long already. TL;DR in the last paragraph.

You must know I haven't been introduced to the Lorax as a child. I took interest in it in 2021 because I heard Biggering. Previously all I knew was something something oncest. Then I watched '72 version and read the original book (in this order). And after doing so I have decided to watch 2012 version as well.

It's not a terrible movie as far as children movies go. I believe I have some idea about animated American movies from the first half of 2010s and it's really not the worst. However it isn't good Lorax adaptation. It uses its runtime really non-efficiently. It has some good ideas but it's too scared to take them further. When you learn more about its concept art and deleted songs it starts physically hurt. So much wasted potential. We really could get a masterpiece.

While I may not take Lorax philosophy as my own I can understand it and see when it's underutilized. The environmental message falls flat. They make it about trees (all trees in the world) and it was never about trees. Once-ler says in '72 version something like "never in my life I have seen treese like these" (it may be not word for word I quote from memory). Truffula is not the only kind of tree in Lorax-verse. And more important it is a SYMBOL. What Once-ler does is symbolic. Once-ler and Lorax are themselves a symbols. Both older versions are great cautionary tales for children because they use symbols and allegories to express complex concepts in a simple manner. In 2012 version Once-ler and Lorax don't work as symbols.

I also don't like the direction they took with the Once-ler. Despite having a longer screentime he is still less complex than his '72 version (some people say ‘72 and book versions are identical but that's a lie. But it's a thing for another post). He's transformation into a villain is unrealistic and dumb. It only takes a length of how bad can I be. He destroys the environment because his family told him to do so. Struggling with own conscience? Thinking about what will happen to your workers, to the economy if you quit? Nah.

And I don't like his design. It's not even that he is a human. It's that stupid fedora and the fact he doesn’t age. He should! Then it wouldn't look like his company lasted for two years.

TL;DR: It's not the worst thing ever but I don’t like it. It misses the point of the original and has a lot of underused potential.

My name is Allie and I have been a fan of Blue Sky Studios since 2002. Ice age was the whole entire reason for me to unleash my artistic talent that I have deep down in my soul. The movie brought me happiness and joy over the years that I've grown up with until the Studio has shut down in 2021 due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
