Dubrovnik and Elaphiti islands-

Becca lured Matt into a miserable uphill run complete with stairs, thorns, snakes, non-existent trails and plenty of heat/humidity to start the day, but somehow he survived. He sort of enjoyed the views down on old town and various islands to the southwest as well as the mountains of Bosnia to the northeast. At one point we came across a memorial for a village that was destroyed in the war and it was wild to think about this same area we are relaxing in today being a war zone about 30 years ago. We eventually made it home to the kiddos and took them back to the soccer court for more exercise (as well as Matt getting roped into filming a Croatian guy trying to land the same trick on his skateboard like 20 times…but he eventually did it!). After getting extra sweaty in full sun on the court we grabbed gelato/milkshakes at dolce vita then headed back to prep for the big event of the day: our boat rental! Matt had had to promise the broker the day before that he knew how to drive a boat (otherwise there was going to be a “skipper” included in the price) so was a bit nervous he’d lose face on picking it up, but told himself he definitely knew what he was doing with regards to boat driving. The first hurdle turned out to be surviving the “private transfer” to the boat dock our broker had arranged. This turned out to be a van that was packed overfull and driven by a young Croatian man who was constantly honking, yelling at people out the window and driving the van on backroads and high rates of speed. We somehow made it to the boat docks unscathed and the rental guy gave Matt a quick rundown of the boat and its various quirks including the check engine being always on as well as what trim levels to run at for various RPMs. We then headed out smoothly with the only slight error being Matt forgot to instruct the crew to pull in the bumpers on the L side of the boat after we set sail so we were cruising with those dangling over the edge for a bit until he realized his mistake. The goal was exploring the Elaphiti islands so we headed to the first of the 3 islands and anchored alongside a bunch of other boats by “blue cave” to start. We had a good time swimming in the cove but could not tell much about the cave itself from where we parked. We then motored on to the biggest goal of the trip: Sunj beach on Lopud island. This was advertised in several places as the best beach around due to it being large and sandy so we were excited to see it. We anchored just outside the swim rope/buoys that extended out from the beach. Then Matt swam into the beach with the 4 kids and had a good time playing in the soft sand and playing in the shallow water and with the water swing for an hour or so while Becca napped on the boat. The only casualty of this awesome area is we think Matt’s prescription sunglasses were left on the beach in the shuffle to get kid lifejackets back on for the swim back to the boat (oh well!). We then maxed out the boat RPMs on a smooth cruise back to the rental dock in order to make it back exactly 4 hours after departure as agreed. Despite having the same van driver on the way back it was a lot tamer drive home (we think on the outbound leg he was trying to show off for some fellow Croatian males his same age who were in the van with us en route to renting some jet skis). We made a tasty dinner in of pizza, gnocchi and salad and enjoyed it out on our balcony at sunset, then packed a bit and got to bet slightly earlier than the night before.

Nema slobodne ceste između Dalmacije i unutrašnjosti, u Gračacu otvoren prihvatni centar za putnike koji su zapeli u prometu

Zbog nevremena od 14,30 sati nema slobodnog cestovnog pravca za sve skupine vozila iz smjera Dalmacije prema unutrašnjosti i obrnuto, javlja Hrvatski autoklub (HAK)     Zbog vremenskih prilika i stanja u prometu u Gračacu je aktiviran Stožer civilne zaštite, a na teren su upućeni jedan djelatnik iz Službe civilne zaštite Zadar s načelnikom Stožera civilne zaštite Grada Obrovca, izvijestili su iz Civilne zaštite. Izuzetno je otežano prometovanje od obale prema unutrašnjosti - zatvorene su A1 (sv. Rok) i D27 (Obrovac), a zbog prometne nesreće između Kistanja i Knina otežano se prometuje prema Kninu (spoj na cestu D1). Od 14.30 sati do daljnjega nema slobodnog cestovnog pravca za sve skupine vozila iz smjera Dalmacije prema unutrašnjosti i obrnuto. U Gračacu je otvoren prihvatni centar za putnike zapele u prometu, na adresi Nikole Tesle 37, kod mosta u Gračacu. Svi ugostiteljski objekti bit će otvoreni tijekom noći. U pripravnosti je i dječji vrtić u Obrovcu, Ivane Mažuranić 4, za prihvat putnika ako se ukaže potreba. Vrtić je grijan i može pružiti smještaj za 100-tinjak osoba. Kontakt osoba u vrtiću je Dražen Breulj, 098 973 1350. Zbog prometnih nesreća prekinut je promet na državnoj cesti Obrovac-Gračac (DC27) - (prepriječeno teretno vozilo), a vozi se jednim trakom, naizmjence, na dionici Kistanje-Knin u mjestu Radučić (DC59). U tijeku je zimsko održavanje cesta pa su česti zastoji iza vozila zimske službe koja se kreću sporije. Vozače se poziva na strpljenje. Zimski su uvjeti na većini cesta u Lici i Gorskom kotaru te u unutrašnjosti.  

U priobalju puše bura, povremeno s olujnim i orkanskim udarima. U prekidu su pojedine trajektne, katamaranske i brodske linije. Vozačima se savjetujemo da prilagode brzinu i način vožnje uvjetima na cestama, održavaju sigurnosni razmak između vozila i na put ne kreću bez propisne zimske opreme. Za kamione s prikolicama i tegljače s poluprikolicama trenutno nema slobodnog cestovnog pravca iz smjera unutrašnjosti prema Rijeci ili Istri i obrnuto.   Samo za osobna vozila otvoreni su: autocesta A6 Rijeka-Zagreb između čvorova Kikovica i Delnice; dionica riječke obilaznice (A7) između čvorova Škurinje i Orehovica (obilazak je kroz grad Rijeku); Jadranska magistrala (DC8) između Novog Vinodolskog i Senja, Paški most i Krčki most. Na dionici Jadranske magistrale (DC8) Bakar-Novi Vinodolski, dionici autoceste A7 Draga (Rijeka Istok)-Šmrika, državnoj cesti između čvora i mjesta Križišće, lokalnoj cesti Kraljevica-Križišće (LC58107) zabrana je prometa za autobuse na kat, vozila s kamp-prikolicama, motocikle, dostavna vozila i vozila s natkrivenim teretnim prostorom (I. i II. skupina vozila). Sljemenska cesta zatvorena je sa zagrebačke strane od Blizneca prema vrhu. Na širem području Pule i Labina poziva se vozače na pojačan oprez, zbog stabala na kolniku i granja.

The boy had a stupidly nice smile, and an even nicer laugh. Of course he was charming as hell just being himself, and she couldn't deny he knew how to use that to his advantage. However, she loved to see him coming into more of himself as of late, opening up in an authentic and genuine way. "Don't be cheeky now, Mr Flynn," the brunette warned, though her tone didn't exactly match the smile that remained on her features. "I swear, I'm going to kill you." Leyla was acutely aware of the stares they were getting by those surrounding them, or maybe the prudeness in her was making itself known and she was very much overthinking it. There it was again, that natural charm and cheekiness shining through. And the company. That's probably why he got so many free donuts, he always knew how to make her smile. Asshole. She grabbed a brownie, then, readying herself for the onslaught of... well, whatever would come about from the meeting. "Ha, funny. You know, you'll be eating your words when today's book club leader starts."

A bell sounded, at the hands of the dramatic Mrs Robinson of course. The room began to fall silent as she called the beginning of the book club meeting. "Shall we?" She motions towards the circle of chairs, veering towards the comfy lounges. "You're in for it, Flynn." It seemed like only minutes into the meeting that the point of talk veered from the premise of the story to, of course, smut. "Here we go," she grumbles under her breath. "Is there something you'd like to point out, Ms Yilmaz?" Leyla paused, momentarily caught off guard by the elderly lady's question, but soon found her answer. "So sorry, Mrs Robinson. Callum was just mentioning how much he'd like to read this chapter out lopud. I was letting him know that you, of course, would probably prefer to but.." Leyla glanced to her left, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she shot Callum a mischievous grin. "I honestly have not seen him so keen to read a chapter of a book since he joined book club."

The way the drink flew out of her mouth made Callum laugh to the point of tears. He had hoped for a reaction but didn't think it would be that extreme. Clearly, she didn't expect such directness from him, and part of him enjoyed that he knew that now. To tease her some. His cheeks were always fire red, so now he knew how to make them dimples burn a little. The glint in his eye was obvious, and the smirk that went along with it deserved the glare. "No, you don't," he immediately fired back with a wink. Callum wasn't usually this confident but was caught up in the moment. It was sure to backfire in time, but for now, he was savouring the feeling. It was rare these days.

Callum protected the plate of cookies with his forearm and glared back at her for even suggesting such cruelty. "Hey now, don't get mad at me because the book has sex in it," he laughed, unable to help the grin that lit up his face again. "And the company," he admitted. Now that the threat against his snacks was gone, he stood beside her and threw an arm around her shoulders. "Mainly the treats, but you're not so bad..." he glanced at the crowd as his arm returned to his side, "And Mrs Robinson is always a good laugh."
