Some late night fic. Kevin and Argit argue about their love lives, sort of.

“At least with Looma we would have had security-” Rolling his eyes, Kevin didn’t bother to hold back his groan. “-social security, financial security, none of the old crew fucking with us.”

“And I’d have had to deal with her shit,” he huffed, burrowing deeper into the machine he was working on. “Seven-sixteen.”

“If she couldn’t learn, well, she was a soldier,” Argit argued, tossing the socket to be caught blind. “Get a kid out of her to secure our place in court and then she’s lost in combat. Worst scenario, sudden organ failure, absolute tragedy, we and our kitten are set for life. She even fucking liked you.”

“My standards are higher than ‘they like me’!”

“Bullshit! Your standards are ‘says they like me’!”

“If you’re so worried about it,” Kevin growled, “find a rich husband.”

“I’ve been trying, ever since I realized you were gonna fuck up this Looma thing.” Huffing himself, Argit tore into a bag of dried fruit. “Options are limited for a guy like me, you’re the one everyone’s into. But no, you had to go for fucking Red. You know how much money Benny’s got?” Popping out of the mass of metal, Kevin glowered at him.

“You think I don’t know how much money Ben has!?! If I’d known then that he’d be getting brand deals in another year, I’d have made a fucking move!”

“So instead, you went with the one you’re gonna be having to support.”

“We don’t know that.”

“Oh please, where’s she going in life? Nowhere, she’s said herself she doesn’t know what she’s doing.” Kevin pointedly stole a piece of fruit.

“If you’re that worried about getting Tennyson money, you grab Ben.”

“I’ve seen the numbers, Ravrsa, if I had a shot there’d have been flowers and elders by now. Instead, now I gotta run around trying to find a man worth the trouble I can get, or set you up with a better catch.”

“G’s a perfectly good catch!”

“She’s a bitch who got you killed,” Argit said, watching Kevin go back to his work with a derisive snort, “and put you on the radar of all her enemies.”

“Ben’s not any better,” Kevin pointed out.

“Benny’d pay the fucking bills.”

“Have you ever thought that maybe I’m looking for more than just somebody to keep a roof over my head?”

“Of course you are, if you weren’t you’d be smarter about who you go for.” Heaving a sigh, Argit leaned back against the ratty old couch. “I want you happy, Ravrsa, I really do, but that good match you’ve been trying to find hasn’t shown up yet, and I don’t want us going hungry again.”

“That’s not gonna happen.”

“You’re living in the backroom of somebody else’s garage. I’m living with a guy three times our age. Your income’s iffy again, after all the shit with the Tennysons, moving out here, and mine never got stable. Forgive me if I’m a little paranoid about our future.” With another groan, Kevin slipped back out of the machine, heaving a sigh as he turned to Argit. Met his eyes.

“G’s a good match-”

“You’re in denial again, Ravrsa.” He reached out and yanked gently at one of Argit’s ears.

“G’s a good match, we’re not gonna end up hungry on the streets again, everything is gonna be fine.” With a quiet, snorting laugh, Kevin flashed a quick, toothy smile. “I am keeping an eye out for a man for you though.”

“Thank you!” Argit threw his arms up in the air, hardly noticing when fruit scattered about. “Was beginning to worry I was the only sane one here!”

“Money’s only coming second,” Kevin made sure to clarify. “I’ll find you a decent man if it kills me.” Shaking his head, Argit snorted.

“I don’t need decent,” he said. “Get me rich and not stupid enough to raise his hand, I’ll be happy enough.”

“Sorry Hedgehog, got higher standards than that.” He snorted again.

“That’s going in your eulogy, I hope you know.”

Oh and forgot to mention that Flor might have sent a warning message to the Incursean and the Tetramand Royal family with a note says he will wipe out there race if the princesses ever try to do anything funny like try to force Ben to marry them on the note he added how he can off them in many ways creative and colorful ways not just there family but also maybe there people. This got Looma and Attea fearful who ever sent that and just giving them a scenario they are not getting Ben. Despite Flor not wanting to hurt kids (It doesn't mean Flor wouldn't be teaching some prideful princesses there place if they crossed a line.)

Cassie’s relationship with Ben’s other love interests

(well, a selected few of them… since she only gets to meet the important? ones djhfkjsdhf)

Some general preface:

-Cassie’s self-esteem is so bad that the first second she realizes that someone else is a potential romantic partner for Ben, her initial thought would be, “ah well.. I’m hopeless. This is it for me. Goodbye”. Because of that, she never really tries to compete for his affections and just takes a loooooong step away from the action.

Some personal + additional notes below the post!

Kai Green

When Cassie heard from Rook that Ben was supposedly destined to be with Kai, the blondie was immediately devastated at the recent discovery. She was already so negative with herself, and the fact that her #1 fear ended up becoming reality just really broke her. That being said, Cassie doesn’t have much of a negative initial opinion on Kai, and actually wanted to meet Ben’s destined lover in the flesh [1]. They were eventually able to have their first interaction with each other when both girls were forced to be in the game show to compete for Ben. Upon hearing from Kai that she was actually annoyed at the fact that she was basically forced to be with a guy she’s supposedly annoyed with, it’s become Cassie’s mission to discover who was exactly that traveled to the past and foretold future events [2]. From the same episode, Cassie was implied to be a bit bothered with Ben and Kai’s constant bickering but would constantly remind herself that ‘fate has been sealed’ and this is how things are supposed to be.

Ester

Ben’s budding feelings for Cassie played a part as to why his relationship [3] with Ester never really went somewhere. Though the Kraaho was still somewhat pursuing her relationship with Ben, Ester was legitimately confused as to whether he was actually serious with her or Cassie [4]. Aside from that, the two girls don’t actually have much problems with each other. In fact, there would be small moments where Ester would go to Cassie’s assistance whenever the latter is visibly being anxious about a current situation (see: Rules of Engagement).

Julie Yamamoto

In all due honesty, Cassie was initially extremely jealous of Julie being Ben’s girlfriend at some point and that sort muddled the former’s opinion about the other for quite some time [5]. Due to the state of Cassie’s mental being at the time, she never really interacted with Julie, but it was safe to say that the latter was extremely concerned when the blonde just broke down. Cassie’s initial opinion about Julie immediately crumbled during the latter’s return in Rules of Engagement, seeing how the tennis player was extremely concerned for the other, Cassie felt extremely bad for thinking about Julie so badly.

Attea and Looma

Personal notes:

Cassie and Kai literally never interacted until the former became Mobius and was forced to participate in the Most Dangerous Game Show. At that point, Kai had no idea she was talking to Cassie since the latter was considered deceased due to preceding events.

If you follow my posts, the culprit was Mobius’ future student that was Kenny. Needless to say, Cassie was extremely pissed not only because the kid broke an important rule for time travelers, but because she was extremely heartbroken when the revelation was first revealed.

I don’t know for anyone else, but my HC is that Ben and Ester’s relationship never really progressed romantically and was left in extremely in a confusing stage until the latter got together with Antonio.

In Cassie’s story, Ben was dating with Ester while he was extremely confused with his feelings towards his childhood best friend. It’s a confusing scenario, but in reality it happens yo.

I usually type Cassie as this ‘uwu innocent shy baby’ but she had some rather nasty and internally misogynistic beliefs at the beginning of the show. It’s a bit nasty and icky, but that’s the reality of writing characters, gotta step out of comfort zones! Of course, character development is important and writing how your OCs step out of that belief is crucial! For Cassie, with the help of time traveling, she was able to witness how messed up history was towards women and realized how society made little girls reject femininity.

I was gonna put Elena somewhere in this list but since I'm NOT too extremely sure about the information I have yet, I've decided in refraining from doing so until things are good.

Defending Ben Tennyson (Part 2) - Ben’s “Harem”

Something I hear a lot about this concept is the belief that this is “Ben’s fault”. He is considered unfaithful, a player, and in turn this is why his failed relationships have been blamed on him only. 

I’d like to argue that this is in fact not true. 

In the beginning of the series, 10 year old Ben Tennyson found the omnitrix and decided out of the goodness of his heart that maybe…he could use this power to help people. As I mentioned in my last essay (Defending Ben 10 part 1), Ben is not a perfect person. Of course he has character traits that are considered to be “flaws”. But that’s okay, it makes him realistic and human. What matters to me at least is that these flaws are not the core of his character, and that most of them are explained as an effect of another aspect of his life. For example, cockiness to cover up fears. 

The core of his character is the selfless, sweet boy who only wanted to help anyone who needs help. 

“It’s in my interest to help anybody who needs it” (Ben, to Reiny - Ben 10 : Alien Force episode “Alone Together”)

… and also (understandably so) had dreams of being a cool superhero.

After he took off the watch, he had the opportunity of returning to a normal life. A life where he would have privacy, be allowed to be himself with minimal judgement, and where he and those who he loved would be safe. But he chose to continue. And the driving force behind this decision was because he wanted to save his Grampa. Out of the goodness of his heart.

After his secret was revealed to the world, his already difficult life had just gotten that much harder. His selfless and pure intentions had unfair consequences. No more privacy, forced to grow up quickly, no time for things like soccer or even high school and struggles with being accepted by his peers. On top of all this, his relationship with his girlfriend Julie suffered terribly. Which he tried to the best of his ability to keep, but it’s hard to understand what your boyfriend is going through when your life is so drastically different I guess. 

Over the course of UA and OV, Ben has acquired quite the large group of love interests, or in other words, harem. I am aware that part of this was for comedic purposes…but realistically (and as a girl with a crush on him herself) I can see why most of these girls like him. Lots of them are superficial and power hungry, and/or see Ben + his powers as an object that they wish to possess. He’s useful to them. There are some of them that actually like him because he’s cute, but I like to think that most of these women realize the point I made earlier. 

 The core of his character is the selfless, sweet boy who only wanted to help anyone who needs help.

At least this is why I like him…that and he’s cute. 

Here’s another thing that I think is important to point out. It has been stated multiple times, to the point where people believe he doesn’t want any romantic relationships at all, that Ben is oblivious to romance. Sometimes, he can’t even take a hint that a girl likes him. He does not actively seek out new relationships with women anyway and would much rather play his favourite video games than deal with crazy girlfriends. Let the boy play Sumo Slammers, I say. Though occasionally he may find a girl attractive, but usually he doesn’t go out of his way to pursue her. His job as an intergalactic superhero allows him to meet lots of new people and aliens…some of which are women, and a lot of which are crazy women. 

It’s inevitable that there will be a lot of women in his life. That doesn’t mean he likes all of them romantically. In fact, Ben does not even encourage this harem. A few episodes that stick out to me in terms of Ben + his harem are the OV episodes “Many Happy Returns”, “Rules of Engagement”, “Catfight” and “The Most Dangerous Game Show”.

In “Many Happy Returns” when Gwen and Kevin return with unwanted and unexpected trouble on Kevin’s part, Ben tries to help his friend even though Kevin probably deserves the consequences of what he did. In the end, Ben gets stuck with being engaged to Looma. This scenario is continued in “Rules of Engagement” (without Gwen / Kevin). Ben’s ex girlfriend Julie returns, as well as Looma. And of course, even after Julie presents her new boyfriend to Ben, she sees Looma as another reason why she should break up with Ben even she doesn’t know the whole story. It’s not like Ben is showing any actual affection towards Looma anyway, so why does she act like all the women in his life are after him because of his own influence? 

In “Catfight” after Ben is freed from being transformed against his will into what either girl wanted him to be instead of what he is, he says this to stop their fighting :

“Listen to yourselves. You’ve both defeated me at some point or other. Neither of you need some trophy guy hanging on your arm. You’re both strong, capable leaders on your own. And it’s high time your four-armed and froggy followers respectively, well, respected that.” 

I respect him for saying this, instead of just beating them both up needlessly. 

In “The Most Dangerous Game Show” Ben did not encourage the girls to fight over him, yet they still did because I know for a fact that most of them see how valuable he is. Whether they admit to liking him or not. 

This is Ben at the beginning of this episode :

He doesn’t look very happy about this. He even had to tell the girls to stop fighting each other and start fighting together. Because he’s saved the world so many times he knows what it’s like to have to compromise with people you may not like in order to achieve a mutual goal.  

This is why I believe that Ben’s harem is not his fault and that he should not be the only one to blame for his girl problems. It’s the girls who formed his harem that are to blame, not him. He’s just gotten so much shit for this that sometimes I wonder who people are talking about when they insult and criticize him because the words they use don’t describe Benjamin Kirby Tennyson. He’s written so out of character in harem fanfics and such that I just couldn’t help but take a step back and recognize who he really is and try to explain it to the unkind internet. 

I want to protect / defend him…just like he does for everyone else.

In this little scenario Ben 23 is dumped in Ben's universe again by Azmut 23, and Ben decides to take him with him in the undertown, but it seems that two Bens just attract too much attention, and now a krowd of fan-girls has surrounded them.

Looks like Kai is not too pleased by the fact that Ben is so popular and it also looks like Attea and Looma are too attracted by that little blue miniaturized  Ben (Ben 23 is not amused).

In this embarrassing senario, my oc Iris (the green one) and Sespia's oc Mies (the rabbit like), walk in.

-      Mies is inspired from an Asiatic legend that tells that the Moon is inhabited by a race of bunny that know the secret of the elixirof long life. In this AU the moon was actually inhabitated by a mistic race of alien rabbits that had indeed the knowledge for the creation of the elixir of long life.

Many aliens wanted to have this knowledge and so Mies's kind was often kidnapped or persecuted.

This brought the mistic alien rabbits to bury their magical powers and, in the end, to completely left the Moon to go to live in others planet.

These mistics aliens are now almost forgotten, for the good and for the bad.

Mies left her home planet with her parents and, once grown, she started traveling aroun the universe and she became a fighter. One day she became part of the crew of the Lovelyduck with Captain Rad as her superior.

She eventually met Ben and became friend with him.

One "luky" day she ended in universe 23 while she was eating a Smooty (guess how?) and casually she saved Ben 23's life. Azmut 23, impressed by her skills, employed Mies as Ben 23's bodyguard and asked her to remain hin his universe.

-        Iris was inspired by the fact that it would be funny to see a creature similar to Vigax becoming Ben's girlfriend.

Iris is a genetic accident provoked by an Omnitrix' prototype and Vilgax's mate.

In this AU, when Vilgax was young, he had a lovely mate that would have soon given him a baby.

One day the lovely woman had the bad luck of touching an unstable prototype of the Onmitrix.

The contact provoked the reaction of the alien tecnology that fused the baby with a random alien's DNA. The lovely woman did not know about the accident untill the day of the birth of the baby.

She has human DNA! How?!  When?!  What to do now?!

The baby was abbandoned, and it was told to Vilgax that his mate had naturally aborted.

She was raised by an alegant waitress untill she was 15, then by a funny bounty hunter untill she became 18, and then she went to the Plumber's accademy but was rejected. (unnown to her, they discovered a strange genetic similarity to Vilgax, and so decided to send her away, just in case...)

Iris found work as a bodyguard and saved enough money to buy a dwarf-vulpimancer, and now she live on Earth waiting to find an other job.

One day she met Ben, or maybe Ben met her, it's not known... but if I were in you I would ask that sorcerer of Iglif.
