Thanks for sending one in! I enjoyed writing this!
#27: Support Group AU MASH Ship: Piercintyre Warnings: Mentions of alcoholism and hospital treatments.
A/N: This started out as CharHawk but then i was like wait! Trapper is also from Boston, so then it became a full reunion/ Piercintyre implied ship!
After the police action that was the Korean War, Hawkeye found himself frequenting Emergency Rooms getting treatments for alcohol poisoning. His father was in constant contact with the best therapists in Bangor Maine. It wasn’t until one December morning, when Hawkeye awoke from another charcoal treatment did his dad finally decide to put an end to this senselessness.
“Benjamin. This is getting ridiculous, you're 35 years old! I don’t mind you living at home. I really love it actually, however, I’m going to need you to try to get sober or I need you to move out.”
And that is how Hawkeye found himself sitting in a fold up metal chair in the basement of a church in Boston Massachusetts.
“My name is Alex and welcome to Celebrate Recovery! It doesn’t matter if this is your first time or your one hundredth time, we welcome you! And no matter what your hurt, habit, or hang up is, you belong here!” introduced the leader of the group before jumping off the stage at the front of the room.
All Hawkeye could do was roll his eyes, he didn’t think he really belonged in the group regardless of what Alex said.
He watched as a different man jumped up onto stage and began speaking,
“For today’s meeting, we have testimony from one of our members. He is a war vet who served in the Korean War, a successful thoracic surgeon here at Boston Mercy Hospital, and he is here to share his story! Join me in welcoming to the stage….  Charles Emerson Winchester the third.”
Everyone around Hawkeye began clapping and cheering, while Hawk sat there with his mouth gaping open. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing! Charles was a frequent flier with this group???
And sure enough, he watched the boisterous Charles walk up to the stage.
“As Alex mentioned, my name is Charles. I am here today to talk about what this group has done for me. So I guess I should start with my childhood” began the man.
Still in shock from what he was seeing, Hawkeye barely noticed a guy slip in and take the vacant seat next to him.
“Ugh, today is just testimony day? Damn! I just need to get my nine month chip.” whispered the guy to Hawk.
Looking at the guy, it took Hawkeye a second to register who was sitting next to him.
“Trap?” he cautiously asked.
Smiling the biggest smile, Trapper looked at Hawkeye and stated, “the one and only! How have you been Hawk?”
Shrugging his shoulders, Hawk didn’t dare to speak cause he knew he would break down if he did.
“What are you nine months sober from?” asked Hawk, while testing his voice.
Smiling, Trapper replied, “same as most of these guys, alcoholism. That doctor at the conference back in Tokyo wasn’t wrong about alcoholism. It was bad when I got home. But I found this group and I’m doing better. I got a sponsor and everything!”
Hawkeye was in shock, “wow! Good for you Trap.”
After their little reunion they listened to the rest of Charles’s testimony before he rounded it out by bringing up how his escapism from the war was music and his escapism from reality post war was alcohol and how once he learned he was using the bottle to fill the space the traumas of the war brought upon him, he found the group and has been sober ever since.
After Charles' testimony, Alex held the chip ceremony and after that everyone got up to leave.
“Hawk! You should meet some of the guys! One of them could even be your sponsor. But you’ll have to ask them!” exclaimed Trap while putting on his coat.
“Sure” replied Hawk while also putting on his coat.
Trapper then proceeded to walk Hawkeye around the room like a puppy introducing him to everyone.
“Pierce, I’m surprised to see you present at this establishment. I thought for sure someone of your caliber would have been able to cope with the war”exclaimed Charles while making his way towards Hawkeye and Trapper.
Looking between the two, Trapper asked in confusion, “you guys know each other?”
“Charles was ferret face’s replacement” gritted Hawk through a fake smile.
“Huh, well looks like its  a 4077 reunion up in here” laughed Trapper, while trying to loosen the tension that had built up.
“Yea,” agreed Charles.
Standing there, Trapper realized Hawk and Charles were sizing each other up and still had some pent up emotions from the war between each other, so to get Hawk out of there and save Charles’s ten months anger chip becoming a day one chip, he quickly spoke up, “Well, your testimony was good Charles. I liked the part about escapism, it really spoke to me. Uh I gotta get this one to the train before he misses it and is stuck in Massachusetts all night” and with that he all but dragged Hawkeye out of the church and onto the street.
“Look, uh I know things have been different between us since I was discharged, but if your not doing anything, uh Louis has the kids tonight and the apartment is pretty lonely when those munchins aren’t there, so if you wanna come over we could have some coffee or something” boldly asked Trap.
Thinking about what he was implying with the phrasing of his sentence, Hawkeye nodded and the two headed towards Trapper’s car.
Fin.
