listen i was all ready to rank dfqc’s father as worst father of the year right up there with jiang fengmian and now what am i supposed to do with this knowledge that he actually loved his son and played kick ball and gave him hUGS?? that in order to save their people it seems, he had to make dfqc powerful enough even if it meant dfqc would have no emotional connection that’ll prevent him from killing his father to ascend the throne. that dfqc might still love his father and their people even if he doesn’t understand what that means anymore. and their tribe? loves him too????? enough to be angry that he unintentionally abandoned them??? LET ME LIVE

so um anyway jiang cheng canonically does not consider wei wuxian a servant—let alone “just a servant”—and does not treat him like one. idk where this idea came from but it is factually untrue.
in fact, jc repeatedly indicates that he thinks wwx’s station is on par with other gentry, that he likes the idea of being part of a pair with wwx, and even jokes with wwx, mocking the notion that wwx could be a servant.
after wwx was taken in, they were functionally raised as equals, and there is nothing in their interactions as youths that indicates or even hints that their relationship was master/servant instead of simply childhood friends.
and obviously wwx is not sect leader, so yeah, he is expected to defer to jc after the war, (and that’s not an inherently bad thing, that’s how leadership works) but jc lets him get away with SO much shit that Would Not Fly if wwx were a servant (or treated like one). if jc only regarded wwx as a servant, there is literally no reason to be as lenient as jc was with wwx’s loose canon tendencies.
i’m sorry, but there is simply no valid reading of their relationship where the dynamic of their relationship is master/servant. their relationship simply is not built on obligation, as much as they both try to act like it. this assumption undercuts a huge amount of context and motivation, leaving nonsensical character decisions and gaping plot holes. there is no mdzs unless they care about each other as individuals.
#jiang cheng#mdzs#mdzs talk#mo dao zu shi#moi#not to mention the fact that we literally never see wwx ever acting in the capacity of a servant#jc basically never asks anything of wwx#maybe ‘please don’t insult our colleagues (who are also our elders and have more power than us) to their faces’#or like ‘please refrain from picking fights with people we’re trying to establish professional relationships with’#up until wwx defects whenever someone started poking at wwx’s behavior jc just shut them down. ‘that’s the business of the jiang sect.’#and some of y’all have the audacity to claim that jc didn’t do anything for wwx#that he didn’t even care#it’s appalling#i’m super tempted to tag as canon jc#but i will. refrain.#begrudgingly.#i absolutely hate it when ppl insist not only that jc didn’t care abt wwx#but that wwx. didn’t care about jc.#that wwx’s side of things was entirely out of obligation and he did not care about jc as a person in the slightest.#like imma be real w u chief: wwx does not come out of this assumption looking good#in fact he looks like a real grade A asshole#bc if he DOES think he’s just fulfilling his duties then why tf would be flat out lie to jc about their relationship#and if he has a duty to the jiang sect. why the fuck isn’t he doing it. yeah yeah he gave up his core sure.#but it costs zero dollars to NOT antagonize ppl ur sect is trying to built rapport with#it costs zero dollars to consider the political fallout for your sect before you do risky shit#like a wwx that is sticking around out of ‘obligation’ is a real fucking dick#like. either make an attempt at fulfilling your actual obligations or like. just leave??#i mean jfc it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that he does in fact care about jc#and jc does in fact care about wwx#um anyway

When you really think about it, the revolutionary army suits Sabo so, so well. The main thing I can point to is when his shithead father made him return to Goa, how Sabo was more interested in protecting Ace and Luffy's freedom than his own. Little Sabo trying to save everyone in Grey Terminal all on his own. The fact he found his freedom by fighting for the freedom of others. He is just so 🤲 so special to me. He's such a well thought out character, and so much more complex than people think. Oda simply does not miss.

I’m just. Just thinking about how the ASL brothers might have different feelings on Dadan and her hut.
Like for starters Ace. Dadan is the woman who raised him though let’s be real he probably heard every step of the way how she never wanted to, how he was a burden on her. That piled on with the whole Roger’s offspring never should have existed, probably never made for a good pairing. But the funny thing with children is. A part of them, especially when young and developing want to make their caretaker happy and so. Maybe that’s why Ace was so independent from a young age. Being out of the house and caring for yourself meant he wouldn’t be a burden. Meaning Dadan would be happy. Though being alone also means he doesn’t have to listen to her or the others talk behind his back either.
Then after the fires. I think it clicked in his and her head of what they mean to each other. After all. Dadan says these horrible things about him yet she saves him from the fire and Bluejam pirates. He’s heard her say all this terrible things since he could remember and he patches up and care for her wounds carrying her home. I think after the fires. Ace really registers that Dadan is safe. And that’s why after Sabo left he and Luffy didn’t build their forts far in the privacy of the forest but right at her side. Because she’s safe.
Then there’s Luffy. Unlike Ace, Luffy to some degree had a stabile home growing up with Makino. Yes the girl was busy and yes she never had time for Luffy. But her bar was always open to him and she would always be there caring for him. Luffy knew what security was. And he also knew security came in all shapes and sizes. After all the red haired pirates were scrappy drunkards that would pester, tease, bully and heckle him any chance they got. But they cared for Luffy and he knew it. Shanks lost his arm for Luffy to keep him safe. So the bandits behaviour probably never threw him off. But the fact they were BANDITS did. You can’t blame him. His first traumatic experience that was a big part in the shaping of his childhood was caused by bandits.
But every day he came home battered, beaten, muddied, bruised. And just like Makino they would al patch him up. And just like Shank’s crew, would tease torment and bully him. Luffy knew they were safe from day one, and really he probably doesn’t think of her as a mother but she is still definitely family. She when he left on his journey. The fact they were bandits to him just meant they weren’t as cool as pirates. But she was still the best damn bandit in the world.
And finally Sabo. He actually has very little interaction with Dadan throughout the whole flashback besides farting while she talks and sharing a meal. But honestly that quick ease around her made me think. For someone who had such shitty absentee parents and then raised himself on the streets for at least months maybe even years. He was so… trusting? Sure he’s ten, and ten year olds aren’t really that suspecting of the world yet. But of someone of the background, it strikes me as odd.
Do you think he had heard about Dadan from Ace? Like come on, preteens be preteens. Surly Ace has arrived whining about Dadan and her bandits and to Sabo, tales of fighting for each meal. Being literally thrown into a bath tub and her screeching at other bandits and things probably sounds crazy, surreal, like a dream. He’d never say he’s jealous of Ace. After all he knows Dadan isn’t the best but a ‘family’ that talks to you must have sounded amazing. Sabo fit right in at Dadan’s hut because this was the family he had always wanted. And even if for a little while he got to treasure.

#the visual depictions are lovely#but what really gets me every time are the little cultural details in the music#music that tells the story of the Nativity while placing it in a world that's familiar to the listener#fur robed moujiks on snowboard plateaus in place of middle eastern shepherds#bark lodges instead of stables and rabbit skin in place of swaddling clothes#wandering hunter and chiefs from far off places instead of shepherds and wise men (man i love the Huron Carol)#and little french girls running to gather the village to come see Jesus#it's easy for an excess of historical concern to make Jesus feel distant and far off#/I know/ that Jesus was born in the ancient near east and have had my fill of books and sermons and the like unpacking the implications#I've laughed with my friends and family at the wild inaccuracies of Nativity sets and tellings#the crazy blonde mary in the kids nativity set at Walmart#what is that alpaca doing at the living Nativity don't they know those are south American?#yada yada#and then i look at these carols and think. it's okay not to get mired in the history. good even#yes Jesus entered into time and space in a very specific manner#but he also came for all of us#as another carol says: we see him come and know him ours#i just think this practice is lovely#that the impact of the Incarnation was such that it send little french girls running to their villages#and drew algonquin hunters and russian peasants to the manger to see him#it's the great crowd of witnesses in a way#all of us together preparing him room throughout all the corners of the earth#in Bethlehem that night it was only the shepherds who got to see him#but in spirit it was all of us#because it's just like the angel said:#good news of great joy which will be to all people#to all people#starting with the shepherds and going out to all the earth#unto us a child is born#intertextuality

So I was Tasha Yar at a Halloween party this year, and had this conversation
rando: yeah she's Yar -- if she were Data, her uniform would be a different color
me: -pause- No. Yar and Data wear the same color uniform
rando: Are you sure? I think he wears blue
me: I am very sure
rando: I SWEAR he wears blue, you know, the sciences uniform! Let's google this
me: We don't need to google this because I literally have pictures of him saved on my phone
this is the first picture i pull up

"The shackles holding you back are but a mere product of the imbalance within your life. You must accept your insignificance for proper happiness."
An Emanator of Equilibrium who originates from the dead planet Alpha Zedara. She has stripped herself of all mortal constraints, even most of her identity, to reach pure balance within the world. Seen as cold and unfeeling, the mysterious woman is never encountered within one place for too long as she's sworn to never get attached once again.
Alas, as a former mortal with remants of her heart still intact — Even an emanator reaches its limits in some situations.
English Voice: Suzie Yeung

Honestly, like, the girlbossification of historical women has been around since before "girlboss" was even a thing and it is damaging and bad and awful but I think what's just as bad as these reactions to it:
the people who take offence that the wrong woman has been girlbossed, what about their fave? She's so much better than that woman and so obscure! Their fave woman is generally not obscure in any sense of the word, they're just writing spitefic now.
the people who let it rot their brains so much that it impacts the way they see the real woman, even if they're professional historians and should know better, so they constantly go out of their way to talk about they're overrated and not special and actually horrible.
the people who get all "what about the men??" and are basically the equivalent of "#MeToo has gone too far, think about all the precious baby men who have been vilified by the evil women!"
