You love the way your new designer dress hugs your figure tonight, sparkly fabric reflecting the light and making everything around you glow. You love the way the champagne bubbles tickle your tastebuds with their sour taste, on your third glass already and with no intention of stopping anytime soon. You especially love having Johnny eat you up with his eyes from the other side of the room, his honey-colored stare having an iron grip on you.
Letting your body move on its own accord and with a wobble in your step you walk over to where he’s standing, large body resting sideways on the decorated wall. Johnny’s a socialite, yet if you asked him what he did for a living you’d get a different answer every time. He’s a DJ at the biggest club in town, he’s a reality star, he owns real estate. Maybe he’s one of those pretty boys you pay handsomely to loop your arms around for the rest of the night.
And you don’t blame anyone that would want to have Johnny like this, hard to resist with this combination of tall height, dark locks, and even darker intentions. Tonight, he looks more expensive than all your jewelry combined with those leather pants that melt right over his thighs. He’d left the top button of his satin shirt unfastened, teasing you with his smooth, tanned skin, and you take the first leap of immorality by loosening the second one yourself. You’re endlessly jealous of those pearls for getting to loop around his neck.
“Undressing me before even saying hi?”
“Hi. Now can I do one more?”
He chuckles and you take it as a sign to hook your index on the third buttonhole, revealing the top row of his abs. They’re covered in small glitter particles from last night’s fun and you envision the masterpiece you could create with just some lipstick and your fingernails. A sweet smell hazes your mind further, a mixture of his cologne and that caramel-scented e-cig he likes nursing so much.
He hums while still frustratingly keeping his hands to himself, towering over you with his broad shoulders and crushing the surge of confidence caused by the liquid courage, “What has you so naughty tonight baby girl?”
“You”
He loves having people inflate his ego and you know how to take advantage of this fact very well. He pushes back his long bangs with his hand, wet from the heat in the penthouse and finally pulling you closer with the other. His rings dig right over the dimples on your back, just low enough to toy with what’s considered inappropriate in a room full of people. Not that anyone cares, really; everyone is high on the substance of their choice and Johnny is just simply your favorite of vices.
“Naughty, naughty girl”, he muses and you follow his lips like you’re hypnotized, enjoying the degrading way he kisses his teeth.
“You know, when you pretend to be all righteous it makes me wanna fuck you even more”, you bite back and something changes in his eyes, pupils expanding like a big black hole that’s about to swallow you entirely.
His fingers leave his scalp to now grab onto your jaw, thumb hindering the blood from going to your head and forcing you to look away from the tattoo on his chest. You’re so close now that you notice his tongue is toying with some blue-colored candy, its original spherical shape now being a mere wafer-thin piece of sugar.
“You didn’t have a mouth this dirty last time I saw you”
“I thought you loved my mouth”
He grins at your wits, flashing you the same million-dollar smile that gets him free drinks and pretty people at his feet at all times before finally planting his lips on yours.
You think that out of all Johnny’s beauteous features, his lips have to be your favorite ones. Bow shaped and soft, they beg you to suck, nibble, and bruise them, the other party invitees be damned. His right hand, previously resting on your waist, is now grabbing your ass shamelessly, and he takes advantage of the gasp you let out to press the remaining candy against your own tongue. You’re so preoccupied with the way he twirls in your mouth that you’ve pliantly allowed him to corner you between the wall and his body, and when he starts to lick right over the middle of your throat you don’t know if the room is spinning because of the champagne or him.
“Fuck”, you mutter as your half-lidded eyes stare into the ceiling, a familiar hardness poking the top of your thigh.
“Language”, he scolds you against your skin, with a tone so cold you don’t know how it spreads so much warmth to your body, “Good girls don’t swear”
“What if I want to be bad?”
“Follow me”
“Follow me”
You weed your way between the groups of beautiful people, grabbing a glass of champagne on the way, until you reach what seems to be the door to the party thrower’s office. A big “DON’T ENTER” sign hangs from the knob and Johnny throws it to the confetti-filled floor without the slightest guilt, leading you inside the study.
It’s a spacious room, with full-length windows and a mahogany desk placed in front of a filled bookshelf. You don’t even manage to ask him where he wants you when he starts ravaging your neck again, his big body making you backtrack to the reclining leather chair in the end of the office. Unadulterated arousal pulses through you with every bite he leaves behind, and you push him down onto the seat, momentarily enjoying the view of him sprawled like that just for you.
Impatiently, Johnny grabs the back of your bare thighs, pulling you on top of him, and you quickly start to unfasten his braided black belt. Endlessly entertained by the thought of messing with you, he starts petting over the skimpy fabric of your underwear in an effort to distract you. It works, with your fingers shaking as they try to push his pants below his hips while his own start circling around your swollen clit.
A pitiful sob graces his ears as he pushes your soaked up panties to the side, petting your raw pussy that drips with a mess you’ve made just for him. You move your hand between his thighs in retaliation when he pushes two fingers inside you, working him into his full length as your moans harmonize into the most filthy of tunes.
“Tightest fucking pussy. Dripping wet too. Did I do this, pretty girl? Or was I just your victim for the night?”
“Just for you”, you moan out as you move along with his fingers inside you, your hand gliding easily over his cock with the aid of his precum.
He looks so fucking good like that; all messy and sweaty and all yours that you tug the bottom parts of his shirt away from one another, buttons breaking and dancing all over the floor.
“That was expensive”, he mentions playfully just to tease you, knowing damn well this shirt was nothing compared to Johnny’s net worth.
“And I’m priceless”
You take the glass of champagne that you’d left on the floor and start to spill some of the bubbly liquid over his chest, watching manically as it travels through the lines of his abs. The pale moonlight that seeps through the window kisses the wet skin, making him look irresistible as you lean down to suck the drink from the hollows where his muscles connect. Johnny weaves his fingers through your locks and giggles at the feeling, shivering when you reach his happy trail.
“Had enough of a taste?”
“I need one more thing”, you purr and take a condom out of your purse. He strokes his cock lazily as you open the foil carefully, eyeing you hungrily in the meantime, as if he hasn’t taken a good look at you already. When you’re done slipping the condom over his shaft you line the throbbing member to your opening, mentally preparing yourself for the girth you know is about to come.
A breathy whine leaves your lips when he slips fully inside you, and the way Johnny stretches you out already has you seeing stars.
Languidly but full of pleasure you start to circle your hips over him, enjoying the blinking light of the city that falls to your feet. A fleeting feeling of panic surges through you when you see all the people on the road and the balconies of the lower buildings, feeling even more exposed than you already are.
“Johnny, what if someone sees us?”, you ask him innocently but never once do you stop grinding your hips, making him smile at the empty question.
“I thought you wanted to be bad? Not a good girl anymore?”, he teases and thrusts his hips forward without a warning, making you shriek with how deep he reaches inside you. “A naughty, filthy girl that wants my cock in a party full of guests and with the whole city watching.”
He lifts his hand to drag down the fabric of your top, successfully freeing your chest and exposing you even more, loving the way your boobs look as you ride him.
“You think that just because anyone that happens to look up to see you being all slutty for me I’m not gonna fuck you against every surface in this room?”
You whimper at this promise, and your experience with him vouches that it will soon turn into reality.
“Please”, he scoffs, “you better bounce”

Stay with Me pt.3
Summary - You manage to escape from Scaramouche, if only for a moment before you realize there’s no escape. It only takes until you’re sitting back in your regular spot that you know what you need to do.
Pairings - Kitsune!Reader x Yan!Scaramouche
Warnings - Suggestive content, mentions of death, swearing, slight gore / blood
A/N - Its really hard to make this depressing while I’m vibing to Rasputin. Like no joke- I have it on one of the 1 hour playlists :D
Here you’ll find - pt.1 and pt.2
He’d left a key.
Scaramouche didnt make mistakes, not while he had you captive in the vicinity of his bedroom. He didnt have room for mistakes, not when you were watching his every movement while he was in your line of sight.
Sure, he mightve killed a person or two in front of you, but those were necessary mistakes. There was a sign on the door, it specified not to enter. You’d understand that, right?
Thats what he thought at least, lulling himself into belief after belief that you’d be there waiting for him every time. That you’d welcome him with open arms, even if there were chains ensnaring your wrists. That you’d accept your fate at his hands and submit yourself to him.
The Balladeer was a fool.
He’d kept you there for too long, and while you searched for an easy way to escape, time sent your head spinning. Into a spiral that begged only for the wind against your face, back laying on dirt with the familiar chirping up birds waking you up in the morning.
You wanted to go outside.
And when push comes to shove, you had to risk a little more to make it happen. Lure him into bed with kisses while your hands unbuttoned his vest. But what he believed to be alluring contacts was just your way of finding the keys hidden in the back pocket of his shorts.
It wasnt hard to find the one to your cuffs while he was asleep, cuddled in your chest with both arms around your waist as if to get you to stay put. You took the key, hiding them back in his clothing and hoping he didnt notice.
He didnt say anything the next day.
You werent going to wait any longer.
“Oh for fucks sake, why won't the goddamn door open?”
The room was left in tatters behind you, a little gift for Scaramouche once he got back. Turns out a pair of chains can smash up a lot of things, and rage can be used as a great source of strength when contained for such a long time.
But you’d done more than throw the blankets around, cut up the drawers and smash open the windows. Because your fists had bled red when you punched through the glass, puncturing your skin. Your knuckles were an ugly red, bruising already.
Ah, Scaramouche deserved a much better gift.
Gruesome as it was, you rubbed your knuckles against the pale walls. Till the blood stopped coming, till there was a nice little message for the boy which you held so dearly to your heart.
‘Balladeer.’
The first time you’d found out about him being a harbinger he’d told you not to call him by that name. You weren’t someone he associated with by work, you were a treasure to him. That’s why you continued to call him as he pleased, although the temptation always arose.
You were no longer his.
Shoving the door with your hand again, palm fiddling with the handle and groaning when it hardly budged. “Stupid,” you grumbled when the knob began to loosen. Backing up, you charged with your shoulder to the door, full force as the momentum broke the hinges. The door fell down with you along with it.
It was expected, you’d been stuck in the room for a long time, and thats considering you’d sat on the ground for decades. Your body was slight numb, muscles sore and unused for so long.
“You a-arent supposed to leave your room!”
A young man stood in the hallway along with a woman who looked relatively the same age. The two were wearing uniforms, flinching when you stood up from the debris and off the door. “Excuse me?” You asked, voice unnecessarily icy and stern. But you couldnt care less, you were going to get out of this house, damn anyone who stood in your way.
They both continued to shake when you walked towards them, staggering from side to side. The woman stepped up in front of the man, presenting a brave face. “If you leave the mansion, the harbinger will kill us all!”
“Well then I expect you should be on your way then. Actually…” you gestured to the maze of hallways. “You can lead the way.”
“What…?”
Your hand went limp to your side, an exasperated looking momentarily crossing your face before you sighed. “Im not staying trapped in that room, I’m sorry if that ruins your life, but frankly you're not the one stuck in there are you?” You took an extra step just to intimidate them, eyes wide to make the appearance of crazy. “It would be a great help if you showed me where he hid my vision too.”
“We can show you to the door…” The man began, “But the whereabouts of your vision are unknown, he wouldnt tell us something like that.”
A gift bestowed from the gods, a piece to help me thrive with my ambitions and pursue my goals.
Gone.
You really wished you’d taken to clawing out Scaramouche’s face instead, but you’d take what you got. Right now your main priority was getting out of this place, even if it meant leaving a piece of you behind.
“Door.” Your voice was raspy and there was a terrible feeling that crawled up to your throat, but you didnt have time to be emotional. “Show me where the door is… please.”
The conflict in their eyes dissipates by the time they lead you along, mumbling words between themselves. You didnt bother to try eavesdropping, you were so, so tired. You wanted to go home.
Anywhere. Anywhere but here.
It took a few minutes until you were standing in front of a grand door, almost twice the size of you and just as wide. You then began to notice the decorational plants and furniture that filled the empty space, there wasn't an inch of dust. Even though you could tell none of it was used.
“Hurry,” the man warned when you paused. “I dont know when our master is coming back, but if its soon, we’ll all be screwed.”
You couldnt feel your head as you numbly nodded, hand clenching the knob and flinging the set of doors open. “Thank you,” you merely mumbled, taking your first step out of the house in what felt like forever.
The days after that were a blur, the area around Scaramouche’s house were nothing but void. Empty and filled with forests and vast plains. You knew he didnt like people or socializing in general, but to this extent?
Your only option was to run.
Let your feet take you somewhere, anywhere. It was a constant pattern of running and taking breaks, leaning on a tree and gasping in a few breaths before you were again scurrying through the forest.
And yet you felt better than you’d felt in past months that you’d been stuck with Scaramouche.
Food became any boar you came across, the claws you’d spent so long hiding with Scaramouche coming to unleash a wrath beyond your comprehension. Till the animal was cut to shreds and no meat was left even to eat. You’d slaughtered it, without intention to eat or benefit for it, you’d killed it just to kill.
“I’m sorry,” you’d sobbed into the ground where you’d buried the harmless animal. Forehead pressed into the dirt as you pleaded for forgiveness to whatever archons would accept it. You couldn't even remember what archons you were supposed to pray to. “Forgive me- forgive me…”
But eventually you found your way around to somewhere you knew. Territory of Inazuma where you could find your way back, back home.
Where was home?
You’d been on the run from the vision hunt decree, abandoning your post for the Kitsune Saiguu for such a thing. Even now that you could return without a vision and as no threat under the decree…
You’d sacrificed everything for your vision.
Where were you to go now…?
Rain patted down, the trees providing only a slight cover as stray drops fell into your matted dirty hair. You didnt mind, it hid the tears that slid down your lifeless face, feet taking you into the far meadows of your hometown. Till you plopped down underneath a tree, knees curled to your chest and arms hugging them close. You were crying.
You were home.
____________________
“Awh,” a ginger haired murmured, elbow resting on the cool wood of the tabletop. “Is little Mouchie sad? I heard your kitty cat escaped~”
A death wish, even fatui that idly minded themselves around the bar knew it. Sipping cold drinks and swirling their cups, the soft chatter was nothing but a distraction from the main course of events. That being the smaller Harbinger who sat sulking in his seat, hunched over with a drink in hand. He’d drank far more than what was on the counter, but everytime he finished a glass, he’d smash it on the ground, watching the fragile glass shatter into pieces.
“I dont have a cat,'' was his only response, tone daring Childe to pursue further. To give him a reason to start throwing the glass in his face instead.
And Childe was an idiot when it came to challenging someone.
“No cat?” The rest of the drink in the taller harbinger’s glass was gone when he threw his head back. “Hmmm, I cant think of what else could’ve had you so enraptured in returning home then~!”
Scaramouche didnt respond, uneven bangs shadowing the bags under his eyes. “Stronger,” he said instead, elbow on the counter and hand outstretched for something. When there was no movement from the man managing the wine, the harbinger looked up. “I need something stronger to drink,” he repeated, voice seething.
“Of c-course!”
The glass was nestled in Scaramouche’s palm in no time, fingers curling around the circular form to down it in seconds. The drink merely slid down his throat in one movement, alcohol burning his senses. It didn’t matter, he was numbed by the growing rage inside of him.
Finally, he turned to the ginger haired boy, eyes hazily dancing along the counter till it reached his fingertips. Up his hand and along his arm, till Scaramouche was staring right into Childe’s eyes. “They escaped,” he admitted softly. “But it’s alright, because I sent something that’ll bring them back.”
Childe paused, raising his drink up away from his lips to pose a question. Hesitation danced along his features before he brought the glass back, he’d rather not provoke the shorter male any further. Wasn’t like he could interfere anyway.
____________________
“That… that…”
It was preposterous, having returned to that same spot for a day or two and heading back to the hometown you’d once lived in. The one Scaramouche had lived in. There shouldn’t have been an issue, you were solely gathering supplies for the sake of it, ambition driving you to travel far far away.
Out of Inazuma.
It was your new beginning, convincing yourself that you didn't need a vision. Finding some sort of purpose before Scaramouche shattered the vision and your life along with it. You’d seen how people had reacted when it had been ingrained in the statue, neutralized and broken. They lost hope, purpose and aspirations for anything new.
It’s not like the Raiden Shogun took my vision.
But youd taken that fact for granted, expecting some sort of new start without Scaramouche. A victory, getting away from him just for a split second and getting out of Inazuma altogether, you’d never see him again.
Until you got his message.
“How the hell…” You crushed the note until it was just crumbled paper in your hand, slowly leaning on the stone wall. “Piece of shit… what kind of person even…”
Not only did he manage to find you, but without making his presence known, he’d tugged at your one weakness with an ease that had you down on your knees.
You threw the paper to the ground, deliberate as you stared past the alleyway. Pensive as you considered your options. Damn, what options did you even have? You’d been an idiot to underestimate Scaramouche, he wasn’t a child, you knew that… but archons he seemed like one when he was with you. Shown you a vulnerability he wanted only you to see. But maybe that had been part of his plan all along, until all you believed was his soft demeanor.
He may act like a child, but he’s a harbinger.
You stared down at the crumbled piece of paper in disgust.
Not only that, but he has no regard for human life.
Either way, you’d lived decades more than him. You could face him, you would present yourself to him just as he expected you to. Even when everything in you rejected the idea, sobbed at the thought of returning to that house, those chains. Being locked up and confined only for the purpose of coddling a small boy, a selfish boy, a cruel boy.
Deep breath in, deep breath out.
You’d figure out a way, and this time you wouldn’t rule out the option of his death.
———————
Oh darling Y/n, how have you been?
I hope this letter reaches you rather soon, we both have much to discuss, no? About me, about you, and much more. You see, I’ve taken up quite a distaste to your little friends. Stone statues in Inazuma as small as Kitsunes truly hold no purpose, what will they do, come back to life? Haha, I should think not. I’ve already arranged to have them demolished, who knows what kind of material they might possess. Ah, and of course I’d show you the finishing product, unless you’re willing to come and have a chat with me once more? Under the Sakura tree like we used to, you’ve waited years, I believe you can wait for me?
I hope this letter reaches you in best interests. I’m always looking out for you after all.
Sincerely, your Balladeer
——————
It was raining.
Beautiful weather as you lay sitting there, feet crossed and tucked in the same you’d often do. After all, there was no need to fear the vision hunt decree or the Raiden Shogun. Let them come, let them take care of you before Scaramouche did.
You werent cold, not when the cold drops dampened your clothing, slipping down the length of your spine and drenching your face. Despite having lived in a luxury residency for such a long time, this was where you were most comfortable, enduring whatever the weather had for you, taking it with a smile. Because you were waiting…
The Kitsune Saiguu was a distant memory.
You were waiting for Scaramouche, the young boy that often bound into the field in lengthy strides, childlike wonder in his eyes. The one who’d cried when the other kids pushed him away, the one that just wanted to be praised. You’d held him in your arms, and now, even knowing the results, you wouldnt have done differently.
He was just a boy.
Just a boy when he joined the fatui, looking for praise that he was given. He created chaos and bellowed orders with a cruelty that was highly looked upon. Told that he was doing well, so he continued to do so.
He’s just a boy.
You wished you’d held him in your arms, if not only for a tad longer. Shield him away from the wrongness of the world, if only for one last time.
Banishing away your hatred for him was hard.
But you found it under the tree, rain soon dimming down to a clouded cold breeze that swept through the meadow. You’d hated him while stuck in the mansion, but you could now see it from a larger point of view. What he did was wrong of course, but you could remember him so vividly now. His small form giggling, tiny arms around your neck.
“Play with me!”
Was it your fault?
For not holding him tighter? For trying to rectify his bad doings and teach him what was wrong and right? Maybe if your grip was firmer, if you’d spoken to him about the warmth he’d given you that day when playing cards...
“Lazy ass.”
Burying down that pile of worry and insecurities, you took a deep breath in to relax. The edge of your lip perked up, only slightly. “Still terrible with your social skills arent you?”
Slowly securing a dry space under the three with you, Scaramouche sat down. His features were the same ones you’d grown accustomed to at his mansion. Rich clothes, sharp eyes, and the baby face that refused to go away. His movements were soft as he pulled out a deck of cards. The two of you didnt speak as he distributed them between you both. It was tense… no, it felt too much like the warmth form long ago to be tense. You only wished the situation to be different.
“I love you.”
But you could only offer a bitter smile to his words. “I love my vision,” you replied. “I love the Kitsune Saiguu, and I love my friends.”
His touch was gentle when his fingers came to gently cradle your cheek. Holding your face dearly as he peered into your eyes, his were soft. Different from the cruelty he held within, the hatred that burned and destruction that seeked to explode.
You saw a little boy.
Your hand came to press his hand further against your cheek, till you slid his palm to your lips. He appeared so calm when you pressed the first kiss, lips tracing the lines along his palm with all the care in the world.
But you needed to change your view, see him as the man he now was. As the man he had become.
“I love you,” he repeated, and you let go of his hand. It fell limp by his side, cards all but forgotten. There was a much more pressing matter at hand, because you truly needed to see him as he was.
It was necessary if you planned to kill him.

still in love | nakamoto yuta
pairing: yuta x reader genre: angst, fluff, exes to something more warnings: alcohol consumption, mild language word count: 2.2k song: still in love - jahkoy
for @hyuckdove thank you so much for requesting, sukie! i hope you enjoy it~
Friday night. Another night spent in your sweatpants on the hand-me-down couch in your small studio apartment. The city lights filter in through the windows, illuminating you from the side as the flashing of another Netflix show plays on in front of you--a show that you have seen before and definitely were not paying any attention to now.
Instead you find yourself swiping through dating apps, staring blank-faced into the eyes of boy after boy without anything even remotely close to interest stirring your thoughts or your heart.
Another gym selfie, another picture posing with a dog that probably was not theirs, a group photo with no indication as to which bleary-eyed goon was the owner of the profile. Swipe left, swipe left, swipe left, block. A buffet of options with nothing even remotely appealing on offer.
Just as you move your thumb to close the tab your eyes land on a face smiling at you through your screen and you feel your heart lurch to a stop in your chest.
Yuta, 25 New in town. Leader singer/guitar for Open Air. Let’s hit up some cafes and talk tunes
A short bio, but paired with the small gallery of photos it brings a flood of memories rushing through to the forefront of your mind. His hair was longer than it had been the last time you saw him--windswept and dyed in a myriad of colours depending on when each picture had been taken. Some on stage, some standing with friends, some just him alone in a record shop looking through vinyl like he was one the cover of a rock magazine. You flip back to the main photo and lose yourself inside of it.
His deep brown eyes stare back at you through the screen, stirring a pang of familiarity in your gut as you remember the last time you saw them--glancing at you through the window of a bus as he left home for bigger things. His broad smile reminds you of all those hot summers you spent together driving aimlessly through back roads and listening to the same three CDs on repeat.
Summers that, at the time, felt like they would never end; filled with so much love and affection that felt like it could stretch that time to eternity. Warmth from the sun, warmth from his arms, and the warmth that stirred in your heart at every touch.
A warmth that was now leeching its way back into your heart as you sat in silent awe, staring at this ghost from your past resurrected on your phone screen. With some effort you break the hypnosis and shake your head with a sharp inhale. ‘Just swipe left,’ you coach yourself mentally, hovering your thumb over the profile for a brief second before finally taking action.
Swipe right.
‘Shit.’
It’s A Match!
‘Fuck.’
Your heart seizes in your chest in panic and you race through your list of options. Block? Too extreme. Delete the app altogether? Coward. Unmatch? That’s an option.
Just as you move to press the button to try and salvage some modicum of dignity, a notification pops up indicating a new message. Too late, might as well open the message and see where it leads.
[Yuta] hey
You hesitate as a surge of bitterness swells inside of you at the message. Five years of silence and all you can get is ‘hey’? As if in answer to your growing anger, another message blinks to life on the screen.
[Yuta] what are you doing right now?
Curiosity overwhelms and before you can think better of it you type in a response and hit send.
[you] nothing
Maybe you should have made something up. Waited a while and then pretended like you were out with friends or at some event or another. Feign the illusion of a more interesting life than the one you were currently living, decked out in baggy, sauce stained sweatpants.
[Yuta] great! wanna meet for some drinks?
[you] now??
[Yuta] yeah! well tonight. whenever you can meet me :)
You run through a laundry list of excuses in your head but as if your fingers have taken on a mind of their own, you find yourself replying before you can settle on anything.
[you] sure. where?
[Yuta] meet me at zoetrope at 10 :)
[you] ok
The second you send the final confirmation your head swims with a rush of anxiety. Addled thoughts and worries race through your mind and you lean back across your couch cushions with a dramatic groan. ‘What am I doing?’ you scold yourself, before glancing at the time and heading towards your closet to dig out an appropriate outfit.
The minutes tick by as you sort through shirt after shirt, discarding them all as either “too casual” or “too try-hard”. What exactly was an appropriate outfit for a spontaneous meet-up with an ex-boyfriend you hadn’t seen in five years? An ex-boyfriend that you were still very unfortunately in love with, and at this point it looked as though those feelings were terminal. As in you were stuck with them. Forever. And this sudden meet-up was only going to further seal your fate in that regard.
It felt too late to back out now, though, so you trade in your sweats for a pair of tight jeans and a modest, yet flattering top--hoping that it would suffice for the occasion.
“What am I doing?” you grumble the repeated thought out loud into the mirror as you brush back your hair and wash the lazy day from your face.
“What am I doing?” you sigh as you climb into the taxi and give the driver the address to the bar.
“What the fuck am I doing?” you whisper under your breath as you alight on the pavement outside of the trendy bar. The windows are tinted, only emitting a faint orange glow from the dim lighting inside, and you inhale the crisp night air in a steadying breath before heading towards the massive copper doors and stepping inside.
A wall of noise hits you the second you step in--a cacophony of voices, chatting and laughing, mixing with the ever-present nu jazz filtering out through the speakers at a steady volume. It takes you a moment to hear someone calling your name through the crowd, but eventually you do, following the voice with your eyes until your gaze lands on Yuta.
He waves you over, grinning, and you feel yourself hesitate once again. Seeing him on the screen was shocking enough already, but seeing him standing before you--flesh and blood dressed in a smart coat and slick jeans--sends your mind (and heart) reeling. You plaster a smile on your face and weave your way towards the table he’s waiting at, tucked near the back of the bar.
“Hey,” he greets as you arrive, wrapping his arms around you in a hug that feels all too familiar. You allow yourself to sink into it, for a second, wrapping your arms around him in kind and inhaling the deep scent of his cologne. The same one he had been using since high school. The scent encircles you, comfortable and friendly, and you remember how even weeks after his departure from your life, all of your clothes still smelled like him. “It’s great to see you again,” he releases you and settles onto the leather barstool across the table from where you take your own seat.
A waitress swings by the table and you each order a drink; a momentary distraction before the inevitably awkward conversation begins.
“So,” he drawls, leaning back in his seat, “what have you been up to these days?”
The drinks are deposited on the table in front of you a moment later. You take a sip and as the last bit of hesitation drains from you, you tell him.
You run through your biggest experiences, achievements, disappointments; filling in the gaps of the last five years for the man that was supposed to be with you during them, but who left on a bus before they could even begin. And you listen to his as he does the same. His hopes, his fears, his dreams both realised and unrealised.
As the night drags on later, and the empty drink glasses accumulate on the stained walnut tabletop, your fears of the awkwardness that must surely exist between you slip away without ever materializing. Apart from one, massive unspoken question thrumming through your mind as you watch him throw his head back in laughter at one of your college stories, it felt as though things had just picked up exactly where they had left off.
It was comfortable. Almost too comfortable, and that was beginning to worry you more than anything. It felt like stepping back into dangerous territory. The potential of having your heart broken again was too real, too insistent, but the liquor coursing through your veins and the curiosity humming through your thoughts pushed you forward in a boldness uncharacteristic to how you usually acted.
A natural lull in the conversation comes after a time and you lean forward, draining your cocktail of the last of it’s liquid, and study Yuta’s face in the dim lighting. His eyes are closed as he momentarily loses himself in the swell of the music surrounding you. He looks relaxed--jaw unclenched, fingers tapping mindlessly against the hardwood of the table along with the melody, hair mussed after repeatedly running his hands through it throughout the night.
Why was he so relaxed?
You ponder the thought, rolling it over and over in your mind and each time you turn it over you come up with the only logical explanation.
He doesn’t feel anything towards you anymore.
Friendliness? Sure. A shared history and a familiar face in a new city offering a beacon of hope for him? Maybe. But love? Not at all.
He shakes himself out of his reverie as the song changes to something more upbeat and flashes you another pearly white smile and you feel your heart sink into your stomach. Of course he doesn’t feel anything for you anymore.
The waitress walks over with the bill, indicating that closing time was fast encroaching on your reunion, and you thank her with a smile before Yuta slips out his wallet and tucks some cash under an empty glass to cover the charges. “I guess that’s our cue,” he smiles, and you try to decipher the emotion behind it. Regret or relief? Through a slight haze of whiskey it was hard to tell. He slips his coat back on and you follow suit, weaving after him to the doorway and stepping out into the frigid air outside.
“This was nice,” he says, as you stand at the curb and watch the streets for a taxi to hail down.
“It was,” and, despite the worries and concerns still swimming through your mind, you mean it.
“We should do this again,” he grins and you feel your heart lurch in your chest. A fool’s hope rising up at the words despite them being a line spoken so often at the end of dates and so rarely followed through on. But was this even a date? If you were just friends, no feelings, did that mean it was more or less likely to be followed through on?
The questions crash through your thoughts and Yuta stands, watching as your internal crisis comes to a head before him and you finally give voice to the question you had wanted to ask since you matched him on that godforsaken dating app, “why did you break up with me?”
Subtext: when did you stop loving me?
His smile falters and he casts his gaze towards the sky. You feel your fingers grow numb from cold and from nerves as you stand and wait for his answer. Taxis pass, spitting up water from the recent rainfall underneath their tires as they drive by, and you wait in bated silence as he finds the words to say.
“I think,” the words finally find him and you snap to attention, ears straining to catch every syllable as they fall from his lips, “I think we had to grow apart. For a while.”
“Oh,” the brief hope that had burrowed it’s way into your heart slips free from you and you nod. Maybe you would cry later, but for now you just wanted to sink into the worn out seats of a taxi and speed away from this bar.
“But honestly,” he laughs--a short, strained chuckle, “I still wonder why I did it, too.”
“Oh,” a taxi pulls up to the curb and Yuta opens the door for you with a soft smile, brown eyes fixed on yours as you slide into the back of the yellow car.
“I’ll call you tomorrow,” he says before closing the door and it takes some gentle prompting from the driver for you to snap out of your stupor and finally offer up your address. A confused mixture of tears prickle at your eyes as you watch the city lights flash by through the window of the car as it weaves through street after street. A buzzing sounds out from the pocket of your coat and you slip your phone out to find a new message waiting for you.
[Yuta] and for the record, I never stopped loving you

series masterlist
“Okay- uhm, Sarah Cameron or Y/N Y/L/N?” John B questioned JJ as they sat at the front of the HMS Pogue enjoying the sun that shone down on the pair of them “easy Y/N” JJ asserted like it was the most obvious thing in the world, John B gave JJ a side eye “seriously, that girl seems so uptight, she needs a dick in her asap” John B chuckled taking another swig of the beer that was placed in his hand.
“You’re not wrong about that” JJ agreed, when John B suddenly had an idea mischievously staring JJ down who only shrugged, his face a question mark “what?” he finally asked glancing up at his best friend “I’ll bet you a hundred dollars that you can’t get her too fall in love with you within a month” John B dared, smugly looking over at JJ knowing he wouldn’t have the patience to be with a girl for more than an hour.
JJ wasn’t one to turn down a challenge, chuckling as his eyes met John B’s brown ones, staring each other down until JJ finally accepted the challenge shaking John B’s hand before saying “you’re on”.
You stared at your reflection in the mirror that stood before you, content with the fourth bikini you had tried on in the last ten minutes. Sarah had called you earlier asking if you wanted to join her and a couple of your other friends down at the beach, you weren’t one to turn down an offer like that so you got dressed before grabbing a bag that contained all the things you could possibly need for a beach day.
You quickly swung your bedroom door open calling out into the empty hallway that you were leaving only getting a small ‘okay’ in response from your dad, you rolled your eyes before making your way downstairs and towards the front door grabbing your car keys you headed towards your car and placed the bag in the passenger seat before starting it and driving down your long driveway towards the main road.
The weather was amazing and you’d spent the entire car ride listening to your ‘summer vibes’ playlist on Spotify belting out the lyrics to every single song as you drove down figure 8 and towards the cut.
When you finally arrived you grabbed your bag out of the passenger seat making your way towards your group of friends who were easy to spot amongst the crowds of people.
Sarah smiled when she saw you patting the empty spot next to her gesturing for you to sit down, you jogged over to them and immediately grabbed your towel and laid it neatly next to Sarah’s, quickly removing the clothes that covered your bikini.
“Damn Y/N, looking good” a sudden voice could be heard from behind you, you quickly turned around seeing JJ Maybank stand before you, he was infamous around these parts, best known for sleeping with girls and never talking to them again, you weren’t going to be one of his conquests, so you scoffed ignoring his flirtatious gestures as you sat down next to Sarah grabbing a white claw from the mini cooler your friend Lisa had brought with her.
This was going to be harder than he thought, JJ quietly spoke to himself eyes focused on your figure, he couldn’t deny it he liked what he saw, you were exactly his type but he knew if he was going to win this bet he couldn’t treat you like one of the many girls he’d been with, he knew you were different.
The weather was especially good today, your skin glistening in the sun rays as it shone down on you, “there’s gonna be a party down here tonight, we should totally go” you heard Sarah’s voice from beside you, you only shrugged not really feeling up to it knowing how those parties usually ended. “I think I’m gonna stay in tonight” you sighed propping yourself up on your elbows “no Y/N you’re not, you never go out with us come on it’ll be fun we can have pre-drinks at my house-” you raised your eyebrow at her cutting her off “come on don’t be such a party pooper” Sarah frowned giving you her best puppy dog eyes, you groaned letting your head fall back onto the towel “fine”.
The night quickly rolled around and you found yourself standing outside Sarah’s house. You took a deep breath before knocking on the door, within seconds Sarah was stood in front of you grabbing your wrist and dragging you behind her into the house.
Music was blasting from Sarah’s bedroom, all of your friends had already arrived and started drinking greeting you with hugs and compliments as you walked in the door, the only one sober was Lisa since she had been assigned driver for the night.
It didn’t take you long to start feeling a bit tipsy after downing a couple of shots, since if you were being honest you were quite the lightweight.
You wore jean shorts that perfectly complimented your figure and a white bandeau top along with your white vans, you were quite content with the girl who stared back at you in the mirror feeling confident about yourself for what felt like the first time in a while.
You were feeling very lightheaded when Sarah asked Lisa to get going wanting to get down to the beach as quickly as possible, maybe drinking so much hadn’t been the brightest idea you had.
“Y/N come on we're leaving” Sarah slurred grabbing your hand and leading you out the front door and into Lisa’s black jeep. Music was playing loudly out of the speakers as you belted along with the lyrics rolling down the window loving the feeling of the wind in your face.
It was a short drive down to the beach which felt even shorter in your intoxicated state and as soon as Lisa parked you immediately got out of the car Sarah trailing behind you as you made your way towards the crowds of drunk teenagers.
You hadn’t been there long when you decided you wanted more alcohol and made your way towards the keg to fill your cup with yet another drink, this isn’t gonna end well you thought downing the liquor in what could only be described as record time. “Didn’t know you had that in you Y/L/N” a familiar voice sounded behind you, you quickly turned around being face to face with the all too familiar Maybank boy.
“Well there’s a lot you don’t know about me” you flirted raising the cup back to your lips, feeling the alcohol coursing through your veins give you a newfound confidence, he chuckled shaking his head as he got closer to you “wouldn’t mind getting to know you better princess” he hummed, his confidence evident in the way he spoke, princess the word fell so graciously from his lips causing your knees to weaken but you quickly composed yourself clearing your throat and stating “in your dreams Maybank”.
“Always” he replied taking one step closer to you, placing both arms onto the keg behind you trapping you between him and it. You felt your breath getting caught in your throat as you looked back up at him lips only inches away from his, in your intoxicated mind this was a dream come true, but your sober self quickly took over, you didn’t feel like getting your heart broken by someone like JJ, not tonight at least.
You pressed your index finger against his chest pushing him away from you, “you really think I’m that easy, huh?” you scoffed biting down on your lip as you made your way past him ignoring his lingering stare as he watched you walk away.
When you were almost out of sight John B came up behind JJ putting a hand on his shoulder “wanna give me my hundred dollars now before you embarrass yourself any further or?” he gloated chuckling at JJ who only gave him a glare in return.
“I’m only getting started, you just wait” JJ assured him eyes lingering on your figure as he watched you dance with one of your many friends he didn’t know the name of, “whatever you say big man” John B chuckled ruffling JJ’s hair before going back to Pope and Kiara who sat in a circle around the bonfire.
“Care to dance?” his voice could be heard again from behind you, you rolled your eyes “you never give up do you?” you challenged turning to face him “not my style princess” he smirked knowing exactly what he was doing “stop calling me that” you really hated being one of those girls boys thought they could treat however they wanted and you knew JJ was only trying to sleep with you and you weren’t going to be one of the many girls he played, having more respect for yourself than that.
“Listen JJ I’m not interested in sleeping with you so if that’s the only thing you’re trying to do go find someone else” you spoke bluntly, JJ feigned being offended at your words as his hand went up to his heart “wow Y/N I’m hurt that you would think so lowly of me”
“seriously? with your reputation?” you scoffed raising an eyebrow at the boy who stood in front of you “didn’t realize I had a reputation sweetheart, but I’m flattered that you’ve heard of me” you rolled your eyes turning to walk away from him, but before you could he grabbed your wrist preventing you from moving any further.
“Seriously Y/N I really do like you- I’m sorry if I’m coming off as an ass I’ve just- I don’t know never felt this way about a girl before, I want to get to know you” the lie fell so perfectly from his lips, his eyes stuck on yours not breaking eye contact once as to sell the lie even more.
You were surprised at his words you’d never talked to him before and now he was saying he liked you? it didn’t make any sense. “Come on Y/N one date, that’s all I’m asking and if you still think I’m an ass after that I’ll never bother you again alright?” he pleaded. You were tempted at his words, he seemed sincere, his brows contorting as he stared at you hopefully.
“Alright one date, that’s it” he felt a boost in pride, your words feeding into his ego, but he was careful not to show it smiling innocently at you as he took his phone out so you could put your contact information into it.
“Better not make me regret this” you warned handing him his phone back “I promise you, I won’t” he smiled turning to walk away, blowing you a kiss causing a small chuckle to slip past your lips, maybe he wasn’t as bad as people had told you.
JJ walked towards John B, his head held high as he threw him his phone with your contact information open “no fucking way” John B stated in disbelieve staring down at the number with your name above it “told you I could do it man” JJ chuckled sitting down beside him opposite Kie and Pope.
“Do what?” Kie asked taking a sudden interest in JJ’s radiating confidence “It’s nothing me and JB just have a little bet going on” JJ smirked grabbing the phone out of John B’s hand, “whatever” Kiara waved him off turning back to Pope.
JJ felt a hint of guilt as his eyes met yours and a blush crept onto your cheeks, your eyes quickly diverting from his and back to Sarah’s, only a hint though.

Alpha Omega
Pairings: Colson x Reader
Warnings/Tags: alcohol, drunk, attempted rape (colson saves you before ANYTHING happens), potentially triggering dialogue about it the next morning, strangers to friends to lovers, smut, squirting 💦
A/N: Inspired by a weird dream I had and a real tweet I read, the person Jake in the fic was actually Jake Paul in my dream (ew). If you think the beginning backstory may trigger you and just want to read their friendship turn to lovers/smut, then scroll to the 2ND time skip marked with stars (***)
College mid-terms were finally over, which meant the same thing every year: the Alpha Omega annual fraternity party! It was the biggest party on campus every year, and even though it’s not really your scene, you decided to attend this year. Maybe it was the stress of mid-terms weighing extra heavy on your mind, but you needed an escape. But now, five full drinks and some shots later, you find yourself stumbling around the drink and keg area in the kitchen with a half-empty red solo cup, wondering how the hell you're supposed to find your way back to your dorm to sleep off what was obviously a very poor decision.
“Hey pretty thing,” you hear, suddenly feeling an arm slink around your waist.
“Do I know you?” you ask, disoriented and confused as your eyes try to focus on the face of the person touching you.
“The name’s Jake,” he shouts over the music, guiding you out of the kitchen and into the main party room. “You should come back to my room, you look like you need to lay down,” he says with ill-intent, but you’re too intoxicated to argue, letting him lead you up the stairs.
Even though most of your senses are impaired right now, you can’t mistake the distinct, pungent smell of weed wafting towards you as Jake escorts you down the hall once the two of you reach the top of the stairs.
“Yo, Jake!” a voice shouts from an open door, smoke billowing out as you pass.
“Hey Cols, what’s up?”
“Nothing much, man,” he says, blowing a smoke ring as he passes the blunt to his roommate Pete. “Wanna hit?”
“Maybe later, gotta get this pretty little thing back to room,” Jake answers.
“Aye, she alright? Colson questions, quickly rising to his feet.
“Yeah, pal she don’t look too good,” Pete coughs.
“Nah, man, that’s fucked up. She’s gooone!” Colson says getting a closer look at you. ‘You can’t talk her back to your room like this. That’s just wrong.”
“The fuck I can!” Jake retorts. “Look,” he says turning to you and lifting your slumped head. “You wanna go to my room with me don’t you, sexy?”
“N-nno” You slur, drunkenly shaking your head ‘Yes’
“See, she shook her ‘yes’,” Jake argues.
“Yeah, and her mouth said fuckin’ NO, Dawg!” Colson snaps back.
“Listen, I’m taking her to my room and there ain’t shit you can do about it!”
“The fuck there is!” Colson swings, his closed fist making contact with the side of Jake’s face, knocking him out cold.
***************************
The next thing you know you’re opening your eyes; an unfamiliar room and bed coming into view. You slowly sit up holding your throbbing head
“Hey, you’re awake,” says a soft voice to your right. Quickly, you turn your head in a panic to see a tall blonde sitting on the edge of the bed.
“W-who are you? Where.. Where am I?” you ask on the verge of tears.
“My name's Colson,” he reaches out for your hand. “I —”
“Don’t touch me!” You yell, scooting backwards pulling the covers up over you when you realize all you’re wearing is a thin, white, mens t-shirt. “Where are my clothes?”
“Aye, yo, it’s not like that. Relax, listen,” he stands with his hands up backing away from you. “I slept on the couch, I just wanted —”
“Where are my clothes!?” you demand.
“You threw up on them,” he answers.
“So lemme get this right … I threw up and you took off my clo —”
“NO! No! God no!” he says waving his arms. “My roommate Pete —”
“So your roommate Pete took off my clothes…?”
“NOOO! Please, just listen. I swear I was just trying to help you and keep you safe.” The desperation in his voice causes you to let down your guard a little. “I was saying, my roommate Pete. His girl. She stayed over last night and I asked her to help get you cleaned up and changed. I saw nothing I swear,” he puts his hands up again.
You sit there in silence, confused, trying to process everything he just said.
“You really don’t remember anything from last night? Do you?” He asks, stepping slowly back towards the bed.”
“No,” you shake your head, disappointed in yourself.
He cautiously begins to sit back down on the edge of the bed then pauses “Can I?”
You nod ‘yes’ and he takes a seat.
“Yo, you were in really rough shape last night. I’m assuming you had too much to drink?”
Yeah,” you admit looking ashamed.
“Aye, we’ve all been there. I’m just glad you’re ok,” he smiles. “Me and my homie Pete were just up here smoking when we seen some dude we know trying to take you back to his room. I could tell you were wrecked. Fuck, you where barely conscious. I tried to tell him how wrong that was but he wouldn’t listen so I knocked him the fuck out. I didn’t know where your dorm was or if you came to the party with anyone and I wanted to make sure you had a safe place to sleep it off.”
“ Thank you. I’m sorry I jumped to conclusions,” you apologize.
“Nah I completely understand,” he accepts your apology. ‘That’s why I wanted to be here when you woke up, I figured you might be a little confused.”
“More than a little,” you let out a small laugh.
Colson cracks a smile, then heads to his dresser, pulling out a pair of his athletic shorts. “Here, tell you what,” he says, tossing the shorts on the bed. “ Imma head out there —” he points to the door. Let you get dressed and I’ll drive you back to your dorm. Cool?”
“Cool,” you answer with a thumbs up and a smile as he steps out the room, closing the door behind him.
*******************
“Seriously, thank you so much,” you say when he pulls up to your dorm.”What can I do for you? I feel like I can’t thank you enough.”
“Nothing. Any respectable man would have done the same thing,” he says.”I can only hope that one day if god forbid my daughter even finds herself in that position that someone would do the same for her.”
“Awww, you have a daughter?”
“Yeah,” he smiles like a proud father, lifting his backside from the drivers seat to pull out his wallet. “Her name’s Casie,” he says opening to her picture.
“She’s beautiful.”
“Thank you,” he says, then tucking his wallet back into his pocket. “She lives with her mom but I still see her all the time.”
“I’m glad. You seem like you’d be a great father.” you smile. “Thanks again,” you add, stepping out of the car.
“Hey, ummm, wait,” he calls out the car window as you walk towards your dorm.
“Yeah?” you turn back to face him.
“Ain’t you in that bitch Mrs. Pearson’s creative writing class with me?”
“Oh yeah,” you thought he looked familiar. “You usually sit up in the back row right?”
“If you mean ‘take a nap in the back row’, then yeah that’s me”, he laughs.
“Well see you bright and early tomorrow then I guess,” you smile.
“Yeah, see ya,” he smiles back before driving off.
**************************************
The two of you became quite close after that. Gradually moving your seats closer and closer to be near each other in class and pairing up for projects together. You even got to meet his daughter Casie briefly once before her mom picked her up from their weekend visit. You spent a lot of your free time together. It was amazing how you could do absolutely nothing when you were together yet there was no awkward silence or moments: much like right now where you're both hanging out in your dorm just laying on your bed scrolling aimlessly through your phones.
“Oh my god why are men so stupid?” You blurt out in laughter, showing him a tweet on your phone. “This dude really had the audacity to make a whole ass thread about how to eat pussy but he obviously has no clue what he’s talking about; girls don’t squirt out of their clits!’ No wonder girls never cum and have to fake it. Ya’ll mother fuckers don’t even know where the clit IS, and I’m pretty sure squirting is just something made up by the porn industry cuz that shit never happens in real life.”
“Aye, nah I hope you aint including me in that, cuz lemme tell you, ya boy knows where the clit is! My girls always cum,” he smirks.
“Yeah, okay,” you roll your eyes. “How do you know they’re not faking?”
“Cuz squirting ain’t made up, that shits VERY real! Maybe not every time but it has happened so I know they weren’t faking,” he smiles. “You mean to tell me a guy has never made you cum?
“Uhn uh” you shake your head no.
“And you’ve never squirt... even ..uhh..by yourself...or with whatever toys you chicks use?”
“I mean I’ve cum alone, but never squirt. No,” you admit blushing. You and Colson have never discussed anything sexual with each other before.
“That’s bananas, dawg!” he exclaims, slapping the bed.
The room grows quiet, the silence feeling awkward for the first time in your whole friendship.
“Aye, uh you trust me right?” Colson breaks the silence
“Yeah, of course, with my life!” you exclaim.”Why?”
“Trust me enough to uhmm...show you what I can do?”
“Are--are you saying you wanna — “
“I wanna make you cum,” he blurts out, cutting you off. “If- if you’ll let me that is.”
“I...Uhmm..I..”, you stumble while thinking it over.
“Sorry… uhhh let’s just forget this whole conversation, okay?” he says ashamed, thinking he made you uncomfortable.
“Why not,” you blurt out nonchalantly.
“Wait!, why not, like… like you … you wanna —”
You silently shake your head yes biting your lip.
“Oh shit! For real?” He says in surprise, getting up off the bed. “Uhh, c’mere,” he calls you over to the edge of the bed.
You do as you're told crawling over to the edge, sitting with your legs dangling off the bed. “You know, you don’t gotta go easy with me,” you smirk waiting for him to make his next move.
“Good, I wasn’t planning on it,” he says, immediately flipping you over and yanking your panties off from under your dress.
“Ugh you boys are all the same,” you groan looking back at him assuming he’s just gonna start fucking you from behind. “Haven’t any of you even heard of foreplay?”
“Don’t tell me no one’s ever eaten your pussy from the back before?” he questions, kneeling down behind you.
With both hands he grabs your ass making it jiggle for him before delving his tongue between your folds, his tongue exploring every crevice. You gasp at the sensation and feel his muffled laugh buzz against your core, intensifying your pleasure. Gripping your ass tighter, he alternates between plunging a firm, pointed tongue in and out of your wet slit and assaulting your clit with a series of rapid fire kitten licks. Your legs weaken with each lash of his tongue, your body slowly collapsing against the bed.
“Keep that ass up, girl,” he pauses briefly to say. You try with all your might but it’s no use; Colson has reduced your legs to a pile of jello. Roughly he tosses you onto your back, spreads your thighs open and gets back to work. Keeping his tongue focused on your clit, he slides two fingers deep inside of you, his lengthy digits perfectly pressing against your G spot. “I can feel this pussy tightening around my fingers, I know you're close, right?” He pauses to ask cockily.
All you can manage is to nod, ‘yes’, your bottom lip clenched tightly between your teeth as you look down locking eyes with colson; the fiery passion in them is a stark contrast to their ice blue hue.
Colson quickens the pace of his fingers, the sloshing of your wetness audible as he brings you closer to the edge. Then resting his free hand on your mound he gently pulls back the hood of your clit with his thumb exposing the most sensitive part sending your body into convulsions when he rapidly flicks his tongue against it.
“Colson, FUCK!!! ” you scream out in pleasure as the most intense orgasm of your life rips through you. “Oh my god... oh my god,” you chant in pleasure and shock as you realize you’re actually squirting. Colson doesn’t miss a beat continuing to work you through your high, relishing in the mess you're making all over his face and fingers. When you finally stop twitching he removes his fingers and sits up with a smug look. He pulls off his shirt, wipes his glistening face with it, then tosses it on the floor and hurriedly starts undoing his belt.
“You didn’t think I was just gonna stop at one, did you?” He says cockily pulling himself from his boxers. “Awhh, fuck yeah, sooo wet and tight,” he groans as he pushes in, then bringing his hand between your two bodies, and begins to rub your clit as he thrusts.
“Mhmmmhhmm,” you moan, the bundle of nerves still sensitive from your prior orgasm.
“Told ya I could make you feel good,” he teases, his breath ghosting over that one reactive spot on your neck just behind your ear, causing you to let out a little squeak. “You like that?” He laughs, nipping at the same spot while his hips roll in like the tide, crashing repeatedly against the shore of your pelvis. He nips and kisses along your jawline making his way to your mouth, harshly tugging your bottom lip with a groan. Your tongue reaches out, searching for him as he pulls back.
“Fucking tease,” you whimper.
“That desperate to taste yourself on me?” He chaffs.
To be honest you’re desperate for everything he’s giving you right now; you’re body has never felt such pleasure. So when he offers his mouth back to you, you happily welcome the tart taste of yourself still present on his ravenous tongue. Your mouths move in a hungry rhythm, following suit with your hips. Your breaths and moans echo each others, increasing in speed and volume as climax nears. He can tell you’re so so close and he knows just how to get you there. He grabs your legs pulling you flush against him and throws your legs over his shoulder, keeping your thighs pinned to his chest with both arms as continues to pound you.
“Mhmmm… Yeah, Yeah, Fuck me! Fuck me!” you whine needily clawing at the sheets as you enjoy his cock from a whole new angle, slamming into your g-spot at the perfect tempo. It’s just a few more thrusts until he has you completely undone, cumming for the second time today.
“Jesus Christ, Colson” you moan breathily as you ride it out.
‘Ughggg,” he grunts loudly, quickly pulling out, your legs falling to hips as he finishes on your stomach.
“Can’t believe you were out here talkin’ ‘bout men don’t know where the clit is and no man ever made you cum,” he says mockingly after he catches his breath. “Nah, girl, you just been fucking with some losers. Gotta get you a real man like me.”
“Well looks like I got myself one now,” you smirk. “ because we will definitely be doing that again!”
“Awhhh shiiiit,” he says loudly, his hand covering his smile. “ Got you addicted to this dick already, huh?” He teases.
“Shut up,Colson-,” you laugh, chucking a pillow at him “- and go get me something to clean off my stomach.”

show me love | jaehyun
title: show me love pairing: jaehyun x reader genre: fluff request: “I have a fic idea for Valentine's Day 💀 Jaehyun's gf is busy trying to prepare a really sweet bday gift while Jaehyun is busy trying to prepare a really nice Valentine's Day gift for his gf?” word count: 2.2k warnings: alcohol use a/n: writing pure fluff is not as easy as you’d think, but maybe that’s only an issue when you’re emotionally constipated like me...💀 anyway, here’s to the birthday boy. 🌹
You want to be sure Jaehyun’s birthday gift is perfect this year, which is why you spent so much time saving up for it. To you, it often felt a little hard to measure up to all the lavish gifts he gets every year for his birthday from fans, friends, and family members—especially since it’s on Valentine’s Day—but he always claimed that you could get him anything and he’d love it.
You and Jaehyun haven’t met up very frequently this week, partly because you’d both been busy preparing your gifts for each other; you for his birthday, and him for Valentine’s Day. You weren’t too upset about that, though. Being able to see him when the day finally came around would make it even more special after the time spent away from each other.
It’d been a lot harder than you’d anticipated to keep your gift secret, but only because you’re so excited for him to finally know what you’d gotten for him. You’re eager to see his reaction to it and hear what he might say about it. You’re also wondering what he might be planning for you, but you’ve done your very best not to pester him about it too much—even though you really want to.
The day of his birthday, you’re so jittery that you even get up earlier than usual so you can get dressed and make sure your look for the day is perfect. You end up calling Jaehyun while you put your makeup on, not wanting to wait any longer to talk to him. It’s not too early in the day when you call, because you know he won’t like getting up at that hour, but maybe early enough to cause a small complaint.
“Hi Y/N,” he answers after a few seconds, voice a bit deeper than usual—probably because he just got up. You grin at the sound of his voice.
“Good morning! Happy birthday, baby! Did I wake you? I’m sorry, haha.”
“Y/N.” Jaehyun repeats your name and smiles on the other end. You can’t see this, but you can hear his laugh, which is full of happiness at your greeting. “Thank you, sweet girl. It’s fine, I don’t really care, I was gonna get up soon anyway.” You hear the sheets rustling in the background and figure that’s him getting up now. “And of course, Happy Valentine’s Day.”
“The day for lovers, how could I ever forget.” You smirk to yourself, sifting through your makeup bag for a certain highlighter. “By the way, you’re gonna come over today, right? I have something for you,” you tell him in a singsong-y mischievous tone.
“Oh?” Jaehyun perks up at that. “You want me to come over now? Because...I have something for you too, for Valentine’s Day, but it’s here at my place.”
“Ah, really?” You laugh. “Come to my place first, it’s your birthday and you should get your present first.”
“But since it’s my birthday, shouldn’t you come here? Do it for me~”
You almost roll over with laughter. “Aw, Jaehyun! I can’t believe you’re using that cute tone with me, I know you hate aegyo.”
He sighs, and you know he’s probably blushing from embarrassment. “Hmm, okay, okay. Never gonna do that one again. Should we flip a coin on it, then? If I win, you have to come over with whatever your gift is.”
You chuckle. “Flip a coin? You serious?”
“Dead serious. Get on FaceTime.”
“Now?” You snort and look at yourself in the mirror, makeup only half-done.
“You don’t want to? What are you hiding?” Now his voice takes on a sneaky note.
“I’m not hiding anything, but if that’s what you want, then prepare yourself...”
You both hang up and Jaehyun calls you on FaceTime a few seconds later. You smile when you see his face on the other end, still bare from just waking up. One corner of his mouth tugs up in a smirk when he sees you, then he bursts into a full grin, giggling at your half-made-up face.
“Well, that was unexpected.”
“Yes, yes, laugh it up! My own boyfriend clowning me on Valentine’s Day, how sweet of you.” You pout for good measure.
“You laugh at me nearly everyday,” he points out, and you must admit that he’s right. “Anyway, you always look pretty to me.” Then he pulls a hand through his hair in a way that he knows can always make you swoon, and you sigh in defeat.
“...Okay, you’re forgiven.”
You see him rummage around for a moment before the phone straightens again; now he holds a coin between his fingers. “So. What side do you want?”
“I guess heads.”
Jaehyun snickers momentarily before affecting a nonchalant expression again. “Yeah, I’ll take tails then.”
“Stop being dirty-minded,” you complain, rolling your eyes.
“I’m not, Y/N,” he insists, though his tone suggests otherwise. He flips the coin into the air and points the phone camera to where it landed on the ground—heads.
“I won! Now you have to come over,” you cheer.
“Fine, fine.” He shakes his head and laughs. “I’ll be over soon. Wait for me.”
“I wouldn’t go anywhere else, now would I?”
Jaehyun arrives at your place a little while later, and he’s a bit starstruck when you open the door. Now with your makeup finished, you’re wearing a red dress with heels to match and your hair is styled prettily, falling over your shoulders. You smile happily at him, pulling at his shoulders to get him to come inside.
“Hi Jaehyun,” you say, closing the door after him and hugging him. He squeezes you back tightly, leaving a kiss on your bare shoulder and breathing in the scent of your hair.
“Y/N. How do you manage to get prettier everyday?”
“Because you love me so much.” You give him a kiss and tug his hand to guide him into the living room. You lead him to sit down on your couch, though you don’t sit next to him just yet. “Okay, before I give you your gift, you gotta close your eyes first.”
“Close my eyes? What is it?” Jaehyun keeps hold of your hand as he asks this, grinning up at you.
“You won’t know until you do what I say, silly!” He relents, although a bit reluctantly, and lets go of your hand so he can close his eyes. You go to get his gift from your bedroom and come back into the living room with it, holding it out in front of him. “Open your eyes now.”
When he does, he sees you holding a small wrapped box. “Why’d I have to close my eyes? I still can’t tell what it is.” He chuckles as he takes it from you. “The suspense is gonna kill me,” he jokes as he begins unwrapping it.
When Jaehyun finally gets the wrapping off and gets the box open, his face softens as he sees what’s inside and takes it in his hand. You clasp your own hands together, your skin warming at his smile. “It might not be what you’re used to in terms of like, luxury, you know...but it looked nice and I thought it’d look good on you.”
“Y/N…you must’ve spent a lot on this,” Jaehyun murmurs, examining the shiny new face of the watch in his hand. He holds it as if it were a rare jewel, turning it on all its sides to examine it. It’s mostly black leather and silver, but it was still more than usual for your budget, costing you a few hundred dollars.
“I did save up for some months...and still had to use a payment plan for it. Good thing we never broke up in that timespan or I woulda been shit outta luck.” Jaehyun snorts and shakes his head at your statement, knowing you’d say something like that to lighten the mood.
“Thank you baby,” he says, sliding his new watch onto his wrist. “You know this means the world to me.” He goes over to the window to see it better in the natural lighting, holding it up to the light to see it sparkle. You go over to him and peek over his shoulder, grinning softly. “I’ll have to pay you back.” You raise your eyebrows.
“What? It’s your birthday present, why would you—”
“You’ll see later,” he says mysteriously, and you give him a curious look. “Meanwhile, we should go somewhere. The day’s still early, so let’s enjoy it.”
“You’re right,” you say, glancing at the new watch once more and then kissing him on the cheek. “Let’s go, then.”
It’s evening by the time you get back to Jaehyun’s place, having already eaten at an upscale restaurant that he’d reserved. You’d had no idea about it, and you were glad you’d taken the initiative to dress up today. Both of you spent the earlier part of the day going out to brunch and then exploring the city for a few hours, which even included taking one of those romantic boat rides that the nearby lake always offers on Valentine’s Day. You thought it would be kind of cheesy at first, but it turned out way more fun than you could imagine.
When you step inside his place, you’re surprised to see everything is decorated pretty lavishly; the overhead lights are dimmed, leaving a bunch of small tea lights as the main illumination. There are rose petals spread everywhere, too, and the sitting room is set up with pillows and blankets and a nice spread of chocolates and wine on the coffee table.
You gasp, studying the surroundings. “How did you arrange all this? We were together all day.”
“Had some help from the guys; they came while we were gone. Hope they didn’t take anything, though...” Jaehyun shrugs as if this whole setup is no big deal, but his dimples poke out from the gleeful smile on his lips. He picks up an unlit candle from the coffee table, and you notice there are a few more spread around. “Now that we’re here, we can light these. Safety first, you know.”
“Of course,” you snicker, taking your jacket and shoes off so you can sit down on one of the pillows. You take up the bottle of wine and inspect the label while Jaehyun finds a lighter for the candles. “Considering that we already drank at the restaurant...don’t be surprised if I’m off my ass by the end of the night.”
“We don’t have to drink it if you don’t want to,” he suggests, raising one eyebrow.
“Oh no, I want to!” Jaehyun laughs at your enthusiasm as you open the wine and pour a glass for each of you. Once he’s done lighting the candles, he goes into his room. You lean back on the cushion and take your glass in your hand, waiting for him to come back.
Jaehyun returns soon with his blazer discarded and the first few buttons of his shirt undone. “I see you’ve gotten relaxed, too.” You smirk, crossing your legs. “You look so handsome with your new watch. I’m glad I got it for you.”
“Then I think you’ll like this even more.”
“Hmm?” You turn to Jaehyun as he sits on one of the pillows beside you. Your eyes widen when he pulls out a velvet case you didn’t notice before. It’s not a ring case, though, which really would’ve caused you to fall out; it’s the kind you use for bracelets or necklaces. He places it in your hands, and you gingerly take it from him like it might vanish if handled too roughly. “Oh...what is…?”
“You have to open it.” He grins, mimicking your earlier teasing of him with his own gift. You set down your wine glass and open the velvet rectangle to find a delicate necklace lying inside. At the end of it is a small circle with tiny diamonds embedded in it.
“Oh wow...it’s perfect,” you whisper, taking it out of the box and looking it over with enamored eyes. “Is this what you meant by ‘paying me back’? Because, Jesus, this is Cartier. I think you’ve done more than enough.” You smile wistfully and shake your head.
“Let me put it on you,” he says, and you give him the necklace so he can do so. You turn away from him, and you shiver a little at the feeling of his breaths on the back of your neck and his fingertips brushing your skin. You face him again when he’s done fastening it and throw your arms around his neck, hugging him closer to you and smiling against his dimpled cheek.
“I love you, Jaehyun. Thank you so much.”
Jaehyun’s lips curve up at your words, and he tucks his face against you, pressing a gentle kiss to the side of your jaw. “I love you, Y/N.”

freedom.
y/n breaks up with her boyfriend, JJ Maybank. Rafe has to intervene.
:)
warnings: none I think?
He meant well. He loved me. He was protecting me.
I kept repeating these things to myself as I sat, looking at everyone having a good time.
There was a party at the Boneyard tonight. Things we always looked forward to yet I had come to dread them. My boyfriend, JJ, became a different person these nights. Our usual trust and respect was out the window.
“I’m going to get a drink.” I slapped my thighs and stood up facing everyone but, like clockwork, JJ stood up as well, “I got it.” with a tight smile. I frowned as he nudged me back down into my seat and I watched him disappear into the crowd. I looked around to my friends and no one seemed to be paying attention.
I was going crazy, I decided.
He didn’t trust me. Not that I had done anything to break it but he didn’t want the drama of someone looking at me for too long or causing problems with me. Didn’t want the fight, he said.
I looked around the beach seeing familiar faces, Sarah and Kie were dancing and laughing together. I sighed looking longingly at the carefree fun they were having. Pope and John B not even paying attention to them. Trust.
I must have caught Sarah’s eye because she ran up to me and grabbed my arms, “Come dance!” she giggled pulling me into her arms and out onto the makeshift dance floor. I smiled, I was with the girls, I would let loose. I deserved to have fun too. I let myself fall into the music and danced around with the two girls as we laughed before I felt an arm come around my waist, pulling me into him.
Right as I turned around to shake the random guys hold on me JJ found me with a stranger's hands gripping my side and I froze.
“Get off her.” JJ got into the guy’s personal space and lightly shoved him off of me as I put myself in between the two ready to de-escalate the situation.
“Relax JJ.” I pulled on his shirt when his eyes snapped back to mine and I stumbled back from the force. “I told you to stay there.” He ran his hand through his hair and I looked down as we caught the attention of a few other people.
“I’m bored JJ! I can’t just sit in the corner everywhere we go! I can’t take it anymore.” I shrieked, beyond frustrated, “Sarah and Kie have so much fun and you expect me to sit alone!” He scoffed, making my eyes water at how little he disregarded my feelings towards this.
He stepped forward but I took one back, not ready to be put back into the cage just yet. “I don’t want to leave yet,” I mumbled, feeling embarrassed at the way he handled me. “Let’s go talk somewhere quiet.” He grabbed my hand and started pulling me away from the crowd.
“No! I- I can’t do this anymore JJ!” I yanked my hand out of this grasp.
“Fine. I didn’t want you here in the first place. You come here, looking like that, and expect me not to worry about you?” He laughed but it was anything but kind.
“Like what, JJ?” I asked softly, looking down at my tube top and shorts.
“Like a slut, y/n” He answered without fault and I coughed out a laugh, tears leaking down my cheeks.
“You don’t trust me,” I whispered and stepped back again as he looked cold. “I’m done, JJ” My boyfriend of 6 months scoffed again, “No you aren’t.” and reached for my arm. I jumped out of his grasp and raised my voice, “Yes I am! I don’t want anything to do with you anymore!” The mean look on his face only egged me on further, he didn’t care, he wasn’t protecting me, and he didn’t love me.
I turned around to walk back to the main party, “So that’s it? You’re just leaving me so you can mess around with other guys, huh?” I shook my head, not looking back as I cried.
My determination to have a good time only increased as I looked for a source of alcohol. JJ didn’t like it when I drank around strangers so that’s exactly what I would do tonight. I found the keg and walked towards it before running straight into someone.
“Sorry,” I mumbled, wiping at my eyes and sidestepping the stranger blocking my path to freedom.
“Woah, Woah,” He grabbed my arm and kept me in place, the freakishly tall handsome boy looking down at me was none other than Rafe Cameron. “In a hurry?” he asked, scanning my face and looking mildly entertained.
“Yeah actually.” I looked pointedly towards the keg and he followed my line of sight, humming. “You don’t drink.” He said pointedly and I rolled my eyes.
“I do now” I pulled my arm away ready to walk away from Rafe but he put his arm around my shoulder and led me back to his friends.
“Well then let’s get you the good stuff.”
It turns out the “good stuff” wasn’t good at all. Some awful concoction that Kelce threw together but it did the trick as I danced away all of my sadness and fear from earlier.
“So where's Maybank, y/n?” Rafe asked as he watched me dance, smiling at me. I never had a problem with Rafe and his friends. I lived on Figure 8, making me a kook technically but I fit in with John B and his friends much better, that was until tonight.
“We broke up!” I yelled over the music and laughed twirling in a circle, feeling like I was floating. I caught the attention of Kelce and Topper and I finished my cup of mystery liquid.
“I’ll be right back!” I told them and relished in the fact no one cared. No questioning no yelling. Rafe nodded and looked back at his friends, falling into another conversation. That easy.
I stumbled around looking for Sarah to ask if I could stay the night at her house tonight. I couldn’t go home like this even though I lived close by, my parents would kill me. This was a usual thing for Sarah and me to stay together after a fun night. I spotted the girl and ran up to her, hugging her from behind as she giggled.
“You’re drunk!” she laughed, turning around to look at me, “So are you!” I poked her cheek as we giggled like children. “Can I spend the night?” I asked, pouting.
“I’m staying at the Chateau tonight!” she frowned, “JJ didn’t tell you?” Ah so they were all sleeping at John B’s tonight and no one knew I ended things with JJ. Perfect.
I waved her off, “No big deal!” I turned back to walk to the other side of the beach where I left Rafe when I felt an arm slide around my shoulders, “We need to get you home, y/n” it was JJ. I scowled and shoved him away, almost falling down from the alcohol.
He rolled his eyes, “Come on, you’re trashed.” he grabbed my waist impatiently and I flailed, wanting nothing more than to get away from him.
“Get off me!” I squealed as he started walking me off the beach and a familiar voice cut in.
“Forcing girls to go home with you now, Maybank?” Rafe sneered, his eyes caught on the hand wrapped around me. JJ shoved me, unintentional or not, and I fell into the sand with a yelp. I heard the noise of flesh hitting bone and gasps through the crowd. A fight had begun and Topped reached for me, pulling me up and away from the mess. He led us to Rafe’s truck and hauled me into the passenger's seat. He looked at my knees and brushed the sand off of them. I leaned my head onto his shoulder as he stood in front of me, both waiting for Rafe.
“You okay?” Topper asked, “I hate him.” I murmured, numb from tonight. I felt nothing for the boy I thought I loved an hour ago. Topper nodded and laughed, “That makes two of us.”
After a little while, Kelce walked back with Rafe trailing behind him looking angry but he didn’t look hurt. He said something to Topper before shutting my door and walking around to his side., “You can stay with me.” I nodded and he started the car. The drive was silent but I could feel the tension in the air.
When he pulled up to his house I opened my mouth but before I could say anything he was out of the car and was at my door, hauling the door open and helping me out. I let him lead the way in his familiar home and into his room.
“Im sorry,-”
“Is this a normal thing?”
We both blurted out at the same time and I blinked in confusion.
“Does he act like that with you all the time?” Rafe looked at me so seriously I felt as if I had done something wrong. I looked down to the ground and wrung my hands together feeling embarrassed.
I stuttered under his watchful eye, “It wasn't always like this.” I kept my head down and he kneeled in front of me forcing my head to up with a finger, meeting my eyes. My cheeks warmed, “I- he was just worried about me.” I cringed at my own words knowing how false they actually were. Rafe said nothing so I continued, “ I mean, sometimes he is right.” My eyes watered and I looked away.
And then the truth came out. “I hate him.” I said evenly, tears still running down my cheeks. “He called me a slut, I never want to see him again.” My lip wobbled and Rafe pulled me into a hug, running a hand through my hair as I cried.
“Never again, y/n.”

Pairing: Max Phillips x Reader (The Proposal AU) Word Count: 3.5k Warnings: R/18+ - drinking, alcohol, sass, so much sass, sexual tension, sexual innuendos, Max is a bastard man but he is...getting better?, also does he own casual clothes?
[Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [MASTERLIST]
You had taken Tylenol before you even went through security, but at this point you were pretty sure the entire bottle would not have prepared you for flying with Max Phillips. The non stop flight from JFK to Juno was almost ten hours and you had thought multiple times about stabbing your eardrums out with an ink pen. It wasn't that the flight was bad, in fact the flight itself was quite nice. First class was definitely a new experience but you could get used to it. The padded leather seats and extra leg room meant you could lean back and stretch. You propped yourself up with a pillow, and a book and was content to relax. There was just one problem, Max.
His presence was about as loud as he was and he insisted on chatting up the cute stewardesses, reading over your shoulder, and reminding you almost every fifteen minutes that this flight was boring. He at one point in time asked if you wanted to join the mile-high club and you fought the urge to snap your book shut and smack him with it.
The flight attendant walked by and asked if you needed anything and you sat up and gave her a warm smile.
"Yeah, um, I'll take a vodka cranberry, please."
Max raised an eyebrow and looked at you, "It's nine thirty in the morning."
"Oh, shoot. You're right!" You threw yourself over his lap and leaned into the isle to catch the attendant. Max grunted from the sudden weight of you and you bit back a grin. "I'm sorry, can you make it a Bloody Mary? Thank you."
You leaned back into your seat and opened the binder from immigration. Max dusted off his slacks and continued to look at you with curious disdain.
"Maybe you should eat something first?"
"It comes with celery, I think." You said without looking up. You could feel his eyes on you but refused to give him the satisfaction that it bothered you. The words on the page were suddenly the most interesting thing you had ever seen in your life and when he gave a heavy sigh, you grinned.
The attendant came back with your drink and you smiled as she set it on your fold out table tray.
"Is that the binder from I.N.S?" Max said and you nodded as you wrapped your lips around your straw and drank deep.
"Yup, and we have one week to learn all of this about each other. Which will be easy for me, because I can answer all of these questions about you--but you know nothing about me." You looked up and glared as he snatched the binder from you and started flipping through it.
"You expect me to believe you know all of this about me?"
"I do," you took another drink and turned in your seat to face him. "You never stop talking about yourself--and I've been listening to it for five years."
"Well," he said, flipping the page dramatically and looking at you with a grin. "I am my favorite subject."
"At least you can admit it."
He sat back in his seat and crossed his ankle over his knee, balancing the binder on his leg. "Alright, let's have at it then. What's my favorite color?"
"Red." You said without hesitation. "Which is ironic now, all things considered." He ignored the quip about his vampiric state and you leaned over the seat, making your drink slurp obnoxiously. "You know? Because of the blood--"
"Yes, I get the joke, dear." He moved his finger down the page. "What am I allergic to?"
"Soy, gluten," you ticked off on your fingers before waving your hand. "And a whole spectrum of human emotion."
"Are you going to be like this the whole time?" He looked at you exasperatedly and you shrugged. He sighed and shook his head. "Where did I grow up?"
"Transylvania."
"Okay. I'm done." He snapped the binder shut and you almost felt bad...almost.
"No! Okay, okay, come on, Max. I'm sorry," you put your hand on his arm and he looked down at it, making you pull back like he had burned you. "Queens. You grew up in queens. See?"
"Well, you grew up in Sitka. One down. Only two hundred and ninety-nine more questions to go."
You groaned and threw yourself over Max's lap again and held up your finger. "Excuse me, Ma'am?" You hailed the attendant. "Another Bloody Mary, please."
"Will you please, get off of me?" Max said, and you finished your drink and gave his nose a playful tweak.
You plopped back into your seat and leaned back against the headrest. "Next question."
"Do I have any scars?" He turned in his seat to mirror you.
"You have a pretty bad one on your knee. I see it every time you have your meetings with Ted. A.K.A--racquetball." Max nodded, indicating that you were correct and you continued. "So, what's it from? College sports, I'm guessing. What pretentious, frat-boy sport did you play? Soccer? Lacrosse?" You gasped and put a hand to your mouth. "Ultimate Frisbee?"
"You're very funny." He sneered and shook his head. "And I'm not telling you."
"What about me, Max? Do I have any scars?" You switched up the game. Proving that you knew everything about him wasn't going to get you very far with the government unless he could return the favor.
"No," he leaned in and lowered his voice. "But I'm pretty sure you have a tattoo."
You choked on your drink and the action made him smile. Taking a deep breath and a moment to wipe the tomato juice off of your sleeve, you glared at him. "Pretty sure?"
"Yes, when you had the nerve to be out with the flu and they stuck me with that idiotic temp, she accidentally transferred one of your calls to me. It was to confirm that you wanted to cancel your appointment with a laser removal company." He balanced his chin on his palm and continued to give you a smug grin. He was enjoying this now and it was suddenly a lot less fun.
"What are you getting at detective Phillips?"
"So, what is it?"
"No way," you took another large sip and blushed, turning away from him. "I'm not telling you."
"You know they're going to ask. I have to know. Is it a dolphin? An infinity symbol?...'live, laugh, love'?" He gave a mock gasp and put a hand to his mouth. He was imitating your earlier jest about his scar. This was still a game to him and all you had managed to do was encourage it by baiting him.
"You know, I really am glad you're having fun with this, but do remember I could go to prison. Give me that--" you snatched the binder back from him and he let you have it. "Next question. Whose place do we stay at, yours or mine?"
"That's easy," he kicked back in his chair and folded his hands on top of his chest. The action made you realize just how long he was. Between his broad shoulders and impressive calves, he barely fit in the chair. It had to be the alcohol talking. "We stay at mine," he said simply, drawing your gaze from his body.
"Why wouldn't we stay at mine?"
"Because I live at Central Park West. And you no doubt live in some squalid little studio apartment full of houseplants and a dusty, lonely, wine rack that you never use, because it's for guests you never have." He waved his hand as if imagining it and your jaw dropped.
You stayed quiet and closed the binder placing it in the pocket on the back of the seat in front of him. The small bursts of moments when Max wasn't being an asshole, it was easy to forget how real this was. He was charming and you both threw it back at one another so easily that it felt like a game. But when his real nature came roaring back to life and his dig against you was just a tad too deep--well, you didn't want to play anymore.
"What are you doing? We have more."
You sucked the rest of your drink down and put it on the edge of the tray for the attendant to take.
"We should get some rest." You said flatly, pulling the thin airline blanket up over your shoulder. "Knowing my mother, she has a big dinner or something planned."
"Wonderful," he said, folding his hands across his chest as he settled back into his seat.
The two of you stayed quiet for the majority of the trip. You frequently looked over your shoulder to see if he was even still next to you, as he didn't make a sound when he breathed. It was unnerving but no doubt had something to do with him being undead. Did he even need to breathe? You had certainly seen him do it. Was it an act? Fuck all of this was going to send your family over the edge.
The last time you pulled back your silk, airline stamped eye mask, Max wasn't in his seat. His table tray was pulled down and sitting on top of it was a small black velvet box. You looked around but he was nowhere to be seen.
Your fingers traced the shape of the box gently before you picked it up and pried it open. The ring that sat inside was stunning. It was gold, with a few small diamonds in the band on each side before leading up to the main piece--a large teardrop ruby rimmed with more diamonds. You weren't sure if the red stone was meant to be a joke but regardless, it was actually very pretty.
It slid over your finger in a perfect fit and you watched it sparkle in the sunlight from the window over your shoulder. Despite your frustrations, you had to admit, Max Phillips continued to be full of surprises.

Seeing Max rattle in his cramped seat while the puddle jumper took you from Juno to Sitka brought you more joy than it should have. His broad shoulders were folded in on themselves as and he was glaring straight ahead like finding a fixed point on the wall would keep him from committing murder. You knew the flight wouldn't be long, and after the amount of Bloody Marys you had consumed on the last plane, you were too buzzed to care.
As soon as your feet stepped down off of the stairs and onto the tarmac, you saw your family, waving and jumping on the side of the airstrip with a 'welcome home' sign. Oh boy. Here we go.
"Chad! Talk to me, champ." Max said loudly and you turned around to see he had put in his Bluetooth. It made you roll your eyes and you didn't bother to wait for him as you started towards your relatives.
Your mother was soft and sweet and the joy you felt as she squealed and threw her arms around your neck couldn't compare to any other kind of happiness. She smelled like home and fresh baked bread, like holiday candles and clean laundry--things that made you think of home. She pulled back to look at you like you had grown so much since she last saw you, despite being practically the same, and you laughed as she kissed each of your cheeks.
"Oh, I missed you!" She said, hugging you again before passing you off to your grandmother.
"Missed you, too, Mom. Hey, Nana," you said as you stooped down to hug the older woman.
Your mom paused and pulled you back close enough to sniff the air in front of you. "Honey, have you been drinking?"
“Oh--” you leaned back and shook your head, which was a mistake as the world spun just a little bit. “Of course not. There was a guy on the plane and he--”
"We don’t care about any of that," Your grandmother waved a hand to stop your mom from continuing to make a fuss over you. "Where's your man??"
You stopped breathing for a moment as you were suddenly reminded that you were lying to the people who loved you the most. With a bite of your lip, you looked over your shoulder and gestured to Max who was slowly making his way over to you and still talking on his earpiece.
"That's him, the one in the suit."
"Oh, my," your mom said, lowering her welcome sign and taking in the sight that was your boss and now assumed lover.
"You've been keeping that from us for five years?" Nana said as she elbowed you in the ribs and your mother glared at her. “He seems a bit overdressed.”
“Yeah,” you said, glancing down at your leggings, warm boots, and well worn over sized sweater in comparison to Max’s custom blue suit and silk tie. You hoped to god that Max had brought more suitable clothes for what was supposed to be a relaxing family oriented week in Alaska. “He does, doesn’t he?”
“Chad--I think I lost you. Can you hear me? Hello? Helloooo? Shit.” Max tapped the device in his ear repeatedly as he looked around like he would be able to see where there would be better signal. He had yet to acknowledge either you or your family and you clenched your fists at your side.
“Honey,” you said and Max had the audacity to hold up his finger to you as he continued to turn in a half circle. “Honey.” You tried again and finally you raised your voice curtly, “Max!”
“What?” he hissed and you reached up and took the earpiece out of his ear. It took everything you had not to turn and chuck it into the harbor. You gestured to your mom and grandmother and Max’s face changed into his large and inviting smile.
“We agreed not to bring work onto this trip, it’s family time, right?” You raised an eyebrow and he glared at you. “This is my mom and grandmother,” you gestured to them, keeping a firm hold on his Bluetooth and almost daring him to try and get it back.
“You won’t get any reception on that thing anyway, dear,” your grandma waved to Max and then around to the vast landscape. “Too many trees.” She took a few steps over to him and gave him a hug like he wasn’t a complete stranger. You had to give Max props, he hugged her back and managed not to look entirely uncomfortable as he silently worried she was going to wrinkle his suit. “Now, do you prefer to be called ‘Max’ or ‘Satan Reincarnated’? Because we’ve heard it both ways.” She laughed as she patted his chest and smiled up at him.
“Nana!” You looked at her wide-eyed and Max grinned from ear to ear. How was it that the elderly managed to get away with saying the most inappropriate things?
“Oh, have you?” he glanced at you and you felt your face get hot. “Max is fine. As long as I can call you Nana.” He continued to offer that grin that you knew to be his trademark salesman smile but it made your grandmother positively beam.
“Of course!” she said, patting his chest again and adjusting his pocket square. You ran a hand through your hair wanting to scream.
“Shall we?” You interjected and grabbed your suitcase with one hand and your mother’s arm with another. The two of you walked pointedly towards the edge of the pier and she looked at you with parental concern.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” you reassured with a shake of your head, slowing down for Max and your grandma could catch up. “I’m just tired.” If you continued to lie this much you were certain your nose was going to grow pointed.
Your mother helped the elderly woman down the ladder that connected the main strip to the edge of the pier where the family speedboat was parked. The chill off of the water made you shiver, it was definitely coming up on winter time and with the constant overcast came icy waters and snow. Max was just lucky it wasn’t summer time as the non-stop sunlight would have been an issue.
Looking over the ladder and feeling your body sway without even being on the water, you were starting to regret the amount of drinks you had had on the plane. You put a hand to your lips as a small amount of indigestion came up to the middle of your throat. Max stopped beside you and held his hand out expectantly.
“I’ll take my headset back, thank you,” he snarled and you ignored him. “Are you going to be sick? Pull yourself together--”
“Pull myself together? Pull m--” you shook your head and slapped the small device into his hand. “Unbelievable, you’re unbelievable.”
“This is going to be a long fucking week,” he said, looking at the boat as your family settled in. “I’m not getting in that. I cannot get these wet. They’re Armani.” He gestured to his shoes and you vowed in that moment that if you did wind up vomiting, it would be on those shoes.
“Hence the boat,” you gestured. It was the only way of getting to the island that the tiny town resided on, you were happy to make him swim but somehow you doubted that would go over very well with your family. “Either you climb down or you can stay here and I’ll see you in a week--”
“Fine. Fine.” He stopped arguing and climbed down the ladder, hopping the last few rungs to land firmly on the pier. He held up his arms as you passed down the suitcases and tossed his shoulder bag to him and he placed them in the back of the boat. “Are you coming?” he added impatiently as you leaned heavily on the railing at the top of the ladder.
“Give me a minute,” you said through gritted teeth.
“I told you to eat something. You’re drunk--”
“I am not.” You argued with him, straightening your posture and turning around to climb down the ladder. You were going to prove him wrong even if it meant that you landed on your ass. It was simple, all you needed to do was put one foot down in front of the other and keep a tight hold. Rinse and repeat until your feet were firmly planted on the wooden boards--simple.
“Lookin’ good, sweetheart,” Max said, and you didn’t have to look to know he was staring up at your ass. “Those leggings are nice--are you wearing a thong?”
“Oh my god, shut up, Max,” you paused and leaned your head against the ladder, wanting to both strangle him and dive into the pier and let the ocean take you far away from the week ahead of you. After a few moments, you regained your sense of self and took a few more rungs down.
“Almost there,” he encouraged and you let out a heavy sigh. “There ya go--annnnd, congratulations. I am now five hundred years old.”
“Good for you, old man,” you quipped and tried to push passed him. Your boot caught on one of the loose boards and there was nothing to catch yourself on as you started to tumble. Despite refusing to admit that Max was right, maybe you should have eaten something. Your desperate attempt to forget your current situation was about to land you in the middle of the freezing gulf. You heard your mom gasp from the boat but instead of hitting the water, Max’s arm shot around your waist and pulled you back against his chest with ease.
You stumbled and grabbed the front of his suit coat as you tried to turn around and he tightened his grip. He looked down at you with a grin that was much different than the one he had been giving your family. “Got ya.”
“Nice going, Max!” your grandmother cheered and you knew there would be no living with him after this.
“Thank you,” you said curtly and tried to move from his arms but he didn’t release you.
“What, no kiss?” he smirked, keeping his voice low enough that your family couldn't hear him. “I did just save your life.”
“Let. go. of. me. Max.” You said through gritted teeth and you braced for him to force a kiss on you for the sake of your family, but to your surprise, he released you. The way he watched you as you climbed into the boat, all dark eyes and wide grin, sent a shiver down your spine.

Cat and Mouse
Tiny bit edited but I’m so tired.
Kuroo x fem reader college AU.
explanation of the home layout in my head- three story mansion type. You walk in the big double doors and see a double stair case. The main floor has a study room, giant living room, a kitchen in the back, and a big bathroom. The second floor up the stairs is a big open room with another stair case in the back right corner that leads up to a landing that has a door that leads to another bathroom and the Farther up is the third floor that is just bedrooms. This house is OSHA violation but don’t dwell on that. It has a big backyard with a pool and volleyball court. It’s the volleyball teams frat house.
College AU where Kuroo, Bokuto, Tsukishima, and Hinata all go to the same college. Kuroo isn’t on the volleyball team but is always at the games and house hanging out when he’s not studying for his heavy medical exams.
The songs I talk about were just the ones that were playing while I wrote. Music feeds my creativity.

The moment you stepped into the frat house you regretted coming. The first party of the semester that you were invited to because you just got added to one of the frat guys group in a biology class, which honestly threw you off because the boy that asked you to come was super sweet with the cutest tangerine hair.
“A great way to make friends” you roommate said and then she promptly ditched you when she saw an old friend high school, she didn’t know that they went to the same college now and had to catch up, she told you to go get a drink to loosen up so you tried to make your way to where you hoped the kitchen would be in this god awful huge frat house.
The walls were lined with volleyball posters and more volleyball paraphernalia. You knew your school had a huge team but you didn’t know any more than that, you guessed this was the volleyball boys frat house and your suspicions were confirmed when you saw a picture and the same tangerine boy from your class was in it along with his team. “Huh” you say to yourself, your voice drowned in the music.
When you find the kitchen you take a shot, then one more, then a third for good measure before getting a can of soda from the fridge. You didn't care for nursing drinks, you liked to just get the alcohol in and then drink something you actually liked.
You took a yellow solo cup and filled it with cocoa puffs you found in a cupboard and then left the kitchen, you didn’t know anyone so you thought you would walk around and see what this place had to offer besides drunk college kids and volleyball.
You walk around the first floor, there was a pool in the back surrounded by people in bathing suits drunk and yelling, you laughed when a guy got hit in the face with a volleyball and as he looked up to get mad at whoever hit him, he caught your eye looking at him from the open sliding glass door. He was handsome, tall with messy black hair and a goofy smile. He had long arms and a white button up with rolled up sleeves tucked into distressed black jeans and black vans. He winks at you and you can’thelp but laugh and wave. You tip your cup back, pouring some of the cereal in your mouth before walking away from the door, not noticing how he started to make his way over to you.
When he gets to the door he looks around for you, trying to find where the angel went, he caught sight of your back on the other end of the room heading up the stairs and he takes off through the crowd with a smile on his lips.
You walk up the left side of the double staircase, making your way past drunk people and couples making out, to the top where you find a large room filled with more people and several games of beer pong happening. You catch the eye of tangerine dream and raise your cereal glass to him with a smile before tipping more cereal into your mouth and walking around the crowd to the next staircase, your skin buzzing as the alcohol gets to your system.
“Kuroo!” Hinata says as he makes it to the top of the stairs “Hey Kid! Great party” Kuroo says, his eyes scanning the room for you again, catching your hair as you walked up the next set of steps. His eyes finally focused on the small guy, he was saying something but Kuroo wasn’t hearing him, his mind was on you and the way you smiled at him. “I’m sorry Hinata. Do you know where this girl went? She was wearing a jean jacket and black shirt and had a soda and a cup?” Hinata thinks back to you and grins “H/C hair? And super gorgeous?” Kuroo nods “yes her” Hinata laughs “she went upstairs, you just missed her”
You walk around the top floor, it was all bedrooms and a few of them had socks on the door so you avoided those. You walked into one of the rooms that had an open door and flipped on the light. There was a king sized bed that was made and you were shocked that it actually smelled nice. You spot a lit candle and smile, tobacco smoke was the scent and you really liked it.
You walk around the room, looking at the posters of music and led lights around the edge of the ceiling. You looked at the standing mirror in the corner which was basically just a picture collage. You recognized a few of the volleyball team in the pictures and deduced that this room belonged to the player with the silver hair and golden eyes.
One whole wall was a chalkboard and you squealed when you saw a big bucket of chalk. You set down your soda on the dresser and picked up a piece of blue chalk and started doodling around his notes as you ate some more cereal. You drew hearts and several other shapes before drawing an owl in the middle of the wall and then wrote a note that said ‘great room, love the candle’
You leave the light on when you leave the room, making your way down the hall and checking out the other rooms, you set a record to play in the last one and listen to a song by an artist named Shelly as you admired dinosaurs on the bookshelves lining the top, swaying to the beat as you snooped through the messy contents on top of a dresser, hair care products, notebooks, and books lined the back and coins and pens were were in front. You grabbed a pen and a notebook and ripped out a page, folding and ripping off a perfect square before using the extra paper to write a note. You turned the small square of paper into an origami T-Rex, the only origami you knew, and set it next to his plastic figure of a triceratops. You write a note and place it next to the Dino, it said ‘rawr means...’ with a heart and a bad doodle of little foot from the dinosaur movies of your childhood
Kuroo made his way down the hall, avoiding all the socked ones but stopping in Bokuto’s room when he saw the light was on. He notices your soda still on the dresser, the cool condensation no doubt going to leave a mark on the wood. He looks through your doodles and chuckles at the owl. When he noticed your handwriting, that stood out among Bokuto’s horrid chicken scratch, he smiled again. ‘Who are you?” he writes by your note before making his way out and into different bedrooms.
You finish your snooping and head back to Bokuto’s room for your soda you forgot, passing a room that had some shouting and laughter but thinking nothing of it. You grab your soda but notice the response by your note, made by someone other than the person who lived in this room “who am i huh?” you pick up a red piece of chalk and write ‘just a girl’ before leaving the room and heading back down stairs.
Kuroo didn't mean to go into the bedroom with two people doing the deed in it, he didn't notice the sock that fell to the floor, but he couldn't help but laugh at the way the poor guy who was stripping, hestill had on his socks, one black and one a white tube sock that was up to his shin. “Sorry man” he says with a chuckle after he gets yelled at and quickly exits the room. He makes his way to the end of the hall and in the last room the light was still on smelling like a floral perfume, he was so close! He noticed that the record was still playing and smiled at how cute this was. Noticing your little Dino you left and another layer of tension finds it’s way to his heart. When he leaves the room he catches your back as you walk down stairs again. “Fuck” he says and takes off down the longer than normal hallway.
You walk around the room with the beer pong and smiled at HInata when she saw him again “hey do you want a hit?” a voice calls out and you finally notice the couch facing the windows in the room, completely hidden from the rest of the room. It was like it was it’s own little high universe in the middle of chaos. A few people were sitting around with brownies and bongs. You laugh “i might as well” you say and sit down in the middle of the group, sinking into the couch and disappearing from the room.
“What strain?” you ask as you hold your soda and cup between your thighs and grab the bong and a lighter from the nice girl beside you “uh i think it’s stoney pebbles” you nod “that’s a good one” you take a deep hit and lt out the smoke slowly in smoke rings. You giggle a few times before taking one more hit and passing it. “Hey i’ll trade you a brownie for that cereal” a guy says from the floor in front of you “deal dude” you say and pass him your cup before he hands you a homemade pot brownie that was wrapped in plastic.
God where was she! He thought as he looked around “hey did you find her? She just came down” Hinata asked and he shook his head “I’m always one step behind” he says as he looks around, admiring the smoke rings he saw come up from around the couch. Him and Hinata make their way around the big second floor room, looking at everyone closely to find you.
You talk a little to the group, exchanging numbers to match up whenever with the girl who you learned was named Sofia. You stand from the couch and stumble, giggling when floor boy, named Tony, caught you by your hips and steadied you. “Thanks man. See you guys around” you say with a wave as you take your soda and make your way back down the steps, taking a bite of the brownie as you went along.
“Dude!” Hinata says and points across the room to the stairs again “Fuck!” Kuroo exclaims, catching the attention of Tony. “dude that girl just gave me a cup of cocoa puffs. She's an angel!” Kuroo laughs your cup had cereal in it of all things, he guessed you were the one doing the smoke rings as well. He took off through the crowd again, trying to get to you.
You make your way to the bottom of the steps, brownie half eaten and you wrap it up, sticking it into your jacket pocket for later as you finish your soda and head back to the kitchen for another. You feel the weed mix with your alcohol as your body gets more relaxed. You grab another cup, filling it with some chocolate chips you found in a cupboard labeled “Hinata”, making you remember that it was the tangerine cutie boy from your class. You put pretzels on top of the chocolate chips and grab a bottle of water this time to try and get ahead of your dehydration you would feel in the morning.
You ignore your roommate full on sucking face with her friend from highschool on the couch in the study room and make your way to the living room where someone was playing halfway decent music while the furniture was pushed to the walls. You find the phone that was connected to the aux and picked it up, chuckling when the phone unlocked on the first try, 1111. You searched for a song on spotify, one that was stuck in your head since yesterday, Pain by King Princess, and set it to play next. The phone vibrates in your hand a text pops up in a banner, from ‘mom’ it said ‘Dinner tomorrow night, you’re still bringing the rolls right?’ smiling you flick it up and away as you go to your spotify profile and click follow before adding your signature playlist to whomever’s account this was. You place your cup and water on top of the table next to the phone and feel the music hit your soul as your song starts playing.
“There you are” he says to himself as he watches you mess with his phone on the table by the speakers, smiling when he saw you smile and holding his breath when he saw you flick away a notification. When you set his phone down he snapped back into action, making his way through the room over to you. You were now swaying around with the loud music, your arms swinging softly and your feet moving as you danced, you looked elegant and sweet dancing around with a smile on your lips.
You chuckled when someone grabbed your hand, spinning you around in a few circles before his hands landed on your rib area on your back, the heat sinking through your jacket and shirt, making you wish his palms were on bare skin. When your eyes focused you smiled “guy who got hit with volleyball” you say and he laughs “angel with the sweet smile” he quips back and tucks your hair behind your ear. “Kuroo” he says and you feel your heart skip “y/n” you say back and he grins “beautiful name for a beautiful woman” you laugh “does that line even work?” The song had changed to a slow song and your hands made their way to his shoulders as you swayed together in the dimly lit room.
“It has once or twice honestly” he admits and you shake your head “i’m not an easy girl to get Kuroo” you say and now it was his turn to laugh “oh I know that. I’ve been trying to find you all night” you cock your head “you have?” he nods “I liked the record choice in that last bedroom. And the drawings in Bokuto’s room” you laugh “you should have just yelled for me” he laughs “I could have. But you have led me down a pretty amazing adventure” you blush “i'm glad you think so, but why were you trying to find me?”he leans in close to your ear “to tell you how captivating you are and ask for your number”
you feel your cheeks get warmer at his proximity “that’s so cheesy i'm tempted to say no” he laughs “i’m just being honest beautiful” you roll your eyes “yeah sure. And next you’ll say that you dont talk to anyone else like this and i’m a special case” he mocks feeling hurt, a hand clutching his chest, “oooh it burns” he says sarcastically and you laugh “it only burns because it’s true”
he shakes his head “it’s not though” he smirks and you run your hands down his shoulders and chest, feeling his toned body beneath his shirt “oh yeah pretty boy? Then what is the truth?” he’s moved his hands to your hips and is now leading you as you dance from another faster paced song “the truth is this, I may have the looks, the ego, but I dont sleep around. I go after people I want to truly get to know. And you, sweetheart, are someone I would eally enjoy getting to know” you chuckle, your ears feeling warm as you look away with a smirk “okay Kuroo, i will trust you, but if we get to know each other and i find out you are really just a smooth talking asshole I have no issues calling your mom to talk” he laughs and holds you closer to him “my mama would love you” you roll your eyes, ignoring the way that made your heart pump quicker.
“So why do you want to get to know me so bad?” you ask as the music changed again, to a slower song again. He looks down into your eyes with a smile for a moment, until you can't help but smile back at him “that's why. Your smile. It’s beautiful and your eyes are kind.”
your breath hitches and you lean up, kissing his cheek “that was sweet i don't even care if it’s just a play” he raises his arms in the air, his fingertips almost hitting the ceiling fan “i’m not playing!” he says and you chuckle, pulling yourself close to him as you side step to a ‘put your records on’ over.
“Okay, okay. You’re not a player. I’ll trust you Kuroo. Does this house have a pet in it? I saw a leash by the door in the kitchen” he laughs and nods “Sasha, she's a golden retriever, she's probably in the garage” you bounce a little on your toes “lets go” you say and grab your water and cup of snacks, holding them in one hand like you used to with drinks when you were a server, the only skill you retained from those years at the Olive Garden, well i guess you also learned how to steal mints but that didn't matter in real life.
You hold out your free hand towards him “don’t lose me again” you say when he laces your fingers together and he chuckles “yes ma'am” he replies and you blush, shaking your head.
The garage had a jeep inside and several different sports boards on the wall, skateboards, snowboards, skis, you name it, it is in here. You hear jingling and a tail hitting a cage when you flip on the lights and you laugh as you open the cage. You shove your cups into Kuroo’s hands before the 75 pound dog jumps on you, pushing you to the ground to lick your face. you enjoyed the way Kuroo laughed when you hugged the doggy and kissed its face as you laid on the concrete. He sat down on the step and pet Sasha’s side as you held you.
You end up sitting side by side on the step, your back covered in dog hair and dirt but you don't care, as you keep ‘magically’ passing the dog’s toy between you both, causing her to get confused and tilt her head to the side as she watched it yet again disappear before reappearing in Kuroo’s hand behind his back. It was unreal to the dog, once you threw the toy she took a moment to really stare at it before running after it.
“Hey Kuroo” he hums “yeah?” you lace your fingers again and he pops a few of the chocolate chips in his mouth as you speak “you meant it when you said you want to get to know me? You’re not just smooth talking your way into my pants?” he squeezes your hand and turns so he can look at you in the eye “I meant it. I don’t want to smooth talk my way into your pants. I want to get to know you and take you out on an amazing date when you feel like a queen-” you lean in and press your lips to his for a second before pulling away with warm cheeks “what if i want to smooth talk my way into your pants huh?” he throws his head back with a small laugh “is that what you’re trying to do to me y/n?” he asks and you laugh with him “no. No. I want to get to know you too. You’re handsome and sweet” he blushes “thank you y/n” he whispers as he leans farther down to kiss your lips again, softly at first but more heated as you go, his tongue swirls slowly around with yours, the taste of salty chocolate filling your mouth from his tongue. his hands in your hair and on your cheek, your hands find their way into his hair as you moan into his mouth. He buys your bottom lip as he pulls away, your lip slapping against your teeth when he lets go. “oh pretty girl I want to make you mine” you chuckle and roll your eyes “I’m gonna make you work for it Kuroo” you whisper and he kisses your lips softly again, pulling back just a fraction to say “i’ll work as hard as i need. Believe it” you nod “good boy” you whisper and you see something flash in his eyes before you stand with a cheeky grin “wanna go draw penises on Bokuto’s chalkboard?” he stands up next to you and grins like a fool “a woman after my own heart” he brushes away a fake tear and you chuckle, taking his hand after he finishes cleaning up the dog toys and putting Sasha back in her crate.
You laugh as you compare your different penis drawings on the chalkboard wall, everything erased except for your note and owl. You laugh as you point to his extremely small one he drew “is that a self portrait?” you joked and he gasped “no way!” he exclaims and you just smile knowingly, man gives off major BDE. you draw a picture of a sunflower garden as he writes by your note ‘just the prettiest girl i've ever seen’

The wind whips around him as he steps through the freshly fallen snow. He's been here before. Both in his real life and in dreams. He knows how this will end. The Wolveswood calls to him like it had the first time he came here. Soon he will round the corner and find the small white pup buried in the snow at the foot of the giant oak.
But this time is different. He rounds the corner and catches the scent of something familiar. Someone. His footsteps quicken, the feeling of finding someone so familiar but foreign. As he approaches the base of the tree there is not a small pup but a woman. As he drops to his knees to uncover the body it stirs, familiar eyes meeting his. The eyes of a woman he hasn't seen in six years grip his heart and make him feel as if he's suffocating.
Shawn sits upright in his bed and looks around his bedroom. His alarm is set for four in the morning and it's a quarter till. There was no going back to sleep now.
___________________
You find yourself in the kitchen of the house you grew up in. The cabinets are painted with sunflowers and daisies they way they had always been. Something is cooking on the stove but you can't smell it. Small hands grip your pants and you look down to see a little boy trying to get your attention.
“Momma. Momma.”
You pick up the child and hold him on your hip. He's adorable, dark hair and dark eyes. From behind you a door opens and you look back. There's a man walking toward you, a smile on his face. He's familiar but you can't quite sort out why. He kisses the boy's head and then yours. The moment his lips meet your temple you know who it is and your heart soars. Shawn. You've missed him.
You wake up, eyes blinking out the sleep as your bedroom comes into focus. What a strange dream. You can only assume being back in town is what has triggered it. You can't help but wonder if Shawn is actually still around.

Moving back to Brighton was not something you expected to do any time soon, but after losing your apartment due to a rent increase and losing your job due to layoffs, moving back home seemed pretty good. You parents moved away recently and left the house to you and your brother. Jeremy had no interest in moving back to Brighton, he was getting married soon, halfway across the country too.
Driving into town brings a sense of nostalgia, a taste of home. You grew up here, born and raised in the little brick house on the corner of 12th and Main Street. The tiny garden your mom put in when you were ten still grows ever vibrant under the front windows. The old oak stands tall and proud in the front yard, the swing your dad put up when you and Jeremy were toddlers is still there as well. It felt amazing to have a sense of belonging again. The city was great but it wasn't home. Never was.
You drive down Main St and notice a lot of the shops are closed up or are new businesses all together. The grocery store is still open as well as the thrift shop and the printing place. The drug store and sports shop are still there too. The old liquor store has closed up and you are glad for it. Two years ago Brighton became a dry town, no alcohol sales allowed in the town limits. It wasn't a surprise, most of the werewolf townships were going dry. Liquor lead to reckless wolves and no one needed that in this day and age. Werewolves had enough trouble with humans already. While most humans didn't mind them, there were plenty who did. A few rotten apples can sour a bunch.
The old cafe is gone but over head is a sign that reads Full Moon Brew. A small coffee place no doubt. Curiosity gets the best of you and you pull over into a parking spot along the street. The wind whips your oversized sweater around you as you head into the shop, hair a mess from the weather.
The place is warm, both visually and physically. Old wood floors and rust orange tablecloths really set the mood. Little art pieces made of tea cups and spoons hang over head on the high ceilings. They're delightful, beautiful little mobiles. There is a small line of three people as you approach the counter. Somewhere nearby you hear a child squealing, but you don't see it.
The line moves up and you see a familiar face behind the counter. Those dark chocolate curls are as unmistakable as the laugh that comes out of him. Shawn. Gods you cannot believe he's still in town and after the dream you had this morning you can't believe you're actually seeing him. It makes your heart giddy with each step you take. Never did you think he would be in your life again. His voice, heavens and earth, his voice is still just as enticing as it was when you were a teenager.
“Next,” Shawn says cooly as the man in front of you steps forward. “What can I get for you today?”
Your pulse goes wild, the thought of facing him again after six years is sending you into a fit. He's the one man you always wanted, and leaving Brighton was a mistake. Never returning before now was a mistake. Gods knew you were in love with him when you left and they know you still are now. There was no denying it. Man alive you were going to have a conniption fit right here in this line.
“Ne-” Shawn's voice falls away, a cup tumbles to the floor behind the counter and you look up from where the man in front of you has moved. His legs replaced with the dark wood of the order counter. “Hey, I thought I recognized that perfume.”
“Hey.” You lift your eyes fully, forcing them to meet Shawn's. “Long time no see yeah?”
“Yeah.” He grins. His smile put the sun to shame. Bright, gorgeous and his teeth so perfectly straight. Those fangs a bit too large to be human, but that's because he wasn't. “You look good...I can't believe you're here.”
“Same actually.”
“What can I get you? I mean, you came for coffee right? Or did you come for me? I mean that would be weird?”
You chuckle nervously as you step forward and lay your hand on the counter top. “Can I get a-”
A toddler comes into view screaming from behind him. “Daddy! Daddy! I made drink!” The small boy brandishes a tall paper cup with a mysterious substance sloshing out of it.
Your heart stops. The boy from the dream. He has the same dark hair and dark eyes. This was too weird. “Daddy?” you whisper and Shawn looks at you.
He tears his eyes away from yours and looks to the boy. “This is my son.” He kneels down and takes a sip of whatever is in that cup. Brave man. “It's great bud! Go share with Ms. Lettie?”
“Okay!”
Shawn stands up and runs his hand over his hair. “I'm so sorry. He usually doesn't run in here like that. What can I get you?”
“I...I'm just going to have a mocha.”
“It's a long story.” He says as he rings you up. You didn't ask. You didn't need to. “I can explain later but I understand if you don't want to know its-”
You're not as shocked that he has a son as you are that your dream was happening before your very eyes. You aren't sure what to say. How do you explain a dream like that to someone you haven't talked to in years? The only thing you can manage to say is far from what you mean to but it comes out nonetheless. “Did you really drink that?”
“What?”
“The cup he had. Did you actually drink it?”
Shawn chuckles. “Yeah it's just water and apple juice. He mixes his sippy cups into a paper cup. It's fine.”
“Oh.” You laugh softly and hand over a ten dollar bill for your order. “And I'd love to talk later if you're free.”
“I'll leave my number on the receipt then.”
_____________________
The moment you step outside the wind picks up again and you cling to the warm cup in your hands. It's mid November but you can swear you see snow flurries whipping by in the gusts. You turn your back to the wind and walk toward your car. It's so cold you wish you'd grabbed a jacket this morning.
“Hey! Wait!”
You turn and Shawn is walking toward you. “What? Did I leave something?”
“Yeah.” He hands you your receipt with his number on it. “I forgot to give you this.”
“Oh! Right.” You smile down at the crumpled piece of thin paper. “I guess I would have known where to find you though.”
Shawn smiles. “Meet me at the Wolveswood around five?
“Won't your wife wonder where you're at?”
“Wife?
“Yeah...or girlfriend. The boy's mom?”
Shawn shakes his head. “No it's just me. I'll explain later. Five o'clock?”
“Yes. I'll be there.”
____________________
It's just before sunset as you stroll into the Wolveswood. The white trees and dark pines create a stunning and magical aura about the place and that's because in a way it was. Every werewolf township had a Wolveswood. There was something about the trees that grew in them that provided a perfect place for the wolves to be themselves unguarded and uninhibited.
You loved coming here as a kid, though your parents strongly advised against it. Being a human in a town of wolves you had to take precautions. Now that you're older you understand that it was only because the Wolveswood was a place for the residents to run free and you were not a wolf. Though the only times you entered was with Shawn and he would never let anything happen to you.
You head toward the massive oak that sits in the middle of the woods. It's a sprawling work of nature and is the most sacred tree in the Wolveswood. You have countless memories of this place. Most of which involved Shawn and the two of you hanging out after school. A stick breaks behind you and you see Shawn heading towards you in a dark navy sweater. The little boy from the shop is by his side, running ahead to jump on the sticks and snap them.
“You came,” Shawn smiles as he stops before you. “I was worried you might be weirded out by my son.”
“No not at all. I'm curious more than anything.”
Shawn leads you to the trunk of the tree and sits on one of it's massive exposed roots curving up out of the ground. “Well. It all started right here.”
“Like...”
“I found him here, lying abandoned in the snow two years ago almost. He didn't shift into a human for weeks. I had to fight the council to keep him.” Shawn chuckles and watches the boy chase a cardinal nearby. “I didn't know his name, I didn't even know if he knew his name. He didn't speak much, not even babble when he shifted.”
“Wow, he was just left out here?”
“Yeah. We tried everything to find out who his parents were but we can only assume it was a wandering pack or maybe some loners or something. Why they left him behind I can't fathom.”
“What's his name?”
“Myles, but he answers to Pup usually.”
You lower yourself onto the cold dirt and wave at Myles. “Hey pup, hello.”
Myles ducks behind Shawn and hides with his back to the root that Shawn's sitting on. You lean over to try and see him but he must be really curled into the trunk.
“He’s shy.” Shawn reaches back and rubs Myles’ hair. “I want to enroll him in preschool soon but I can't afford anywhere around here and the closest public place is two towns over.”
“What about the library?”
“Expensive. It's a private program.”
“But I'm starting work there next week. I can take him. Employees get free child care. No one is going to ask if he's mine if I bring in his documents.”
Shawn's face lights up. “You would do that? I mean you don't have to. I'll sort something out.” He shakes his head. “No I can't have you do that. I'll just home school him.”
You stand and lay your hand on Shawn's shoulder and he covers it with his own. “You’d do the same for me.”
“Of course I would.” He chuckles. “You know, I missed you. I missed my best friend. Why did we ever split up?”
“I missed you too Shawn, and we split because I wanted to see the world. But the world ended up being an apartment in the city and two part time jobs to get myself through community college. It wasn't worth it.”
“We all make mistakes.” He stands and his hand finds yours. “It's how we learn from them is what matters.”
“What did I learn?”
“That the grass isn't greener on the other side. Now, can I take you to dinner?”
“I'd love to go.”
Myles comes out from behind the root and grabs Shawn's free hand. “I'm hungry too dad.”
Shawn grabs him and hauls him up on his shoulders. “Wanna get a grilled cheese, bud?”
“Yeah!”
____________________
Dinner goes well. You and Shawn catch up on the last six years and discuss how things have been aside from the obvious. It feels like you never left. Being with Shawn feels as natural as if you had just been gone for a few days and came back home. Myles keeps to himself, eyeing you from time to time. He's adorable, all big eyes and big teeth as he puts away a grilled cheese and two plates of sweet potato fries. He could be Shawn's son, if he hadn't told you the truth you would have guessed he was his biologically.
“You're not a wolf.”
You and Shawn halt mid conversation to look at the boy who is leaning with his chin on his arms, staring at you. “What's that bud?”
Myles is silent.
“Pup, it's okay if she's not a wolf.” Shawn rubs his back and he sighs heavily.
“Smells funny.”
“Myles James please don't say that to people.” Shawn looks to you. “You don't smell funny. You smell amazing and I love your perfume.”
“He hasn't been around a lot of humans has he?” You ask, smiling at the two of them. This was amusing.
“No. Mostly the work clientele are wolves from town. You probably smell strange to him because you were in the city for so long. There's a difference between here and there.”
“I smell like city pollution?”
“No, no oh my god. Well maybe? I don't know. A few days in town and you'll be right as rain. I think it's time to head home. Someone needs to go to bed soon.”

The next few days you stop by the coffee shop and chat with Shawn a while before work. He's so cute when he's got his sleeves rolled up, whip cream smeared across his cheek and hair curly and a mess from the steam of the espresso machines. On the fourth day you come in, Myles is standing at the end of the counter waiting for you.
“Good morning pup,” you smile and wave at him. “How are you today?”
“Can I see your teeth?”
“My teeth?” You glance up at Shawn and he just sighs. “What for?”
“Because.” He bares his little teeth at you and you raise your eyebrows.
“Pup. Leave her alone.” Shawn sighs heavily as he makes your usual mocha with extra cream.
You grin big and show the small boy your teeth. He just squints and then nods. “Do I have teeth?” You ask with a giggle.
“Yes. Good.” And with that Myles just turns and goes back to his play area at the corner of the shop.
You stand up and Shawn passes you your drink. “I'm sorry. He had a nightmare last night and I guess all his teeth fell out. He asked me about mine this morning but he's always asking weird stuff so I didn't think about it.”
“I don't mind. He's curious. I'm just happy he talked to me.” You look over at the play area and Myles is coloring something on a little table.
Shawn smiles big and shakes his head. “He's something. Hey, do you want to go out tonight? My mom is available to babysit if you want.”
“Sure. I'd love some one on one time with you.”
“It's a date then. I'll pick you up at six?”
“I'll be there.”
____________________
A date with Shawn is just what you need. The two of you walking hand in hand through the park is just like old times. You don't feel so stressed like you had in the city. It's wonderful.
“So, a coffee shop huh?” You ask, breaking a silence that was comfortable but getting to be too much.
“Yeah. It's a funny story. Lettie needed help for the summer after you left. I wasn't going to stay for long, hell, I wanted to get out of here too. Everything reminded me of you.” Shawn swings your joined hands. “I found that I really enjoyed making drinks and creating things. I also discovered I loved cooking too. Lettie taught me everything. One summer turned into a year and then another year. Pretty soon I was running the place and Lettie retired.”
“But Lettie is still there?”
“She comes in now and again and she'll pick up a shift or two sometimes. It's just hard on her to work forty plus hours anymore.”
You stop and the two of you sit on a bench. “Why did you adopt Myles? You said you fought for him. Why?”
“Something inside me knew he was meant to be mine.” He looks down and fidgets his hands in his lap. “The way he looked at me, he reminded me of you. I can't explain it honestly, but there was something in that kid that was so very like you. I loved him the second I lifted his tiny form out of the snow.”
“You never thought you'd see me again did you?”
Shawn looks over and there's tears in his eyes and his lip trembles as he speaks. “No. No I didn't.”
You feel your chest cease up and tears blur your vision. You reach for Shawn's hand. “I'm so sorry.”
Shawn squeezes your hand tightly. “I figured six years was a sure thing. You were never coming back. Then you walk in the shop out of nowhere, and it was the most incredible moment when I saw you. I went home that night after our dinner and I had to make sure I was actually awake.”
“I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have ever left. I know you said I was your mate and-”
“You are. You still are.”
“And I didn't understand that then. I didn't really grasp what it meant. I thought it meant I'd be trapped here forever. But I think I do understand now. I think. I have an idea anyway.”
Shawn brings your hand up to kiss it and then leans over, cupping your cheek to kiss your lips softly. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.”
_____________________
Friday morning you walk into the coffee shop and it's a little early, Shawn must have just unlocked the door when he got in because the closed sign is still up and the lights are still off. There's a radio blaring from behind the counter and you can hear someone shouting along in the backroom.
Sure enough Shawn appears, backing through the swinging door with an arm full of a sack of beans to be roasted. He's shouting at the top of his lungs.
“Marry me Juliet you'll never have to be alone! I love you and that's all I really know!”
You grin as you approach the counter and watch him sing and dance along to the song. The two of you listened to that one all the time in highschool. He had even requested it at prom for you.
“Good morning.” You say softly and Shawn jumps, turning and flushing bright pink.
“Hey...you didn't see that did you?”
“Oh I got the whole performance. You're quite good, even for yelling the lyrics.”
“I couldn't help myself. It was our song. Remember?”
You laugh and walk around behind the counter to meet him. “Of course I remember. How could I ever forget?” You put yours arms around his middle and hug him. “I still listen to it sometimes too.”
Shawn holds you close and rests his chin on your head. “Are you still planning on taking Myles today?”
“Mmhmm. He's registered for the kids care, all I gotta do is bring him in.”
“Dad! Dad! I need juice!”
“Speaking of which, there he is.”
Myles comes wandering through the back room door. He holds his cup up and Shawn goes for the fridge to get a carton of juice for him.
“Are you excited for daycare today bud?” You ask as you squat down to his height. “You get to play with other little wolves. Does that sound fun?”
“Can I color?”
“Yep. And you get lunch, and music time and story time.”
“Dad?”
Shawn turns and looks down at his son. “Yes pup?”
“Can I go?”
“Yep. That's the plan.”
Myles takes his cup from Shawn and chews on the spout. “Okay. We can go now.”
“I'll lock up real quick. I want to take him in on his first day.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah. I should go with. He might have a hard time."
____________________
Daycare goes off without a hitch. Myles was shy at first but he opened up quickly. As soon as he realized he got to do all his favorite things with other little kids, it was like something switched on inside of him. That social pack mentality kicked in and he was ready to go.
For the first few days you went and checked on him every couple hours. There is a door with a half window that you could go and peek through to see the care room. He looked so happy, so energetic.
Until. The incident. One week into kids care and you're called away from the story time event in the library. Lena brings you to the little time out room, an old office, in the back of the daycare.
"Myles, do you wanna tell her what happened?" Lena, his co-teacher says as she closes the door.
"No."
"Should I tell her?"
Myles curls up where he's sitting on the pillow in the corner. "No!"
"Lena, let me talk to him." You say softly and Lena steps out. You're nervous. Myles isn't actually your kid, you have no place reprimanding him for whatever happened. "Pup?"
"No. Nononono."
You take a seat beside him and lean against the wall. "What happened? I thought you were having a good day? Sha- Dad made you pancakes and everything this morning."
"I bit Jacob." He whispers, sniffling and looking over at you. "We were playing!"
"Oh," you try not to chuckle. You thought this would be much more serious. "Did you say sorry?"
"Yeah."
"Why are you upset?"
Myles huffs. "Because I didn't want to tell you."
"Why not?"
"Because then Dad will make me come home."
You reach over and rub up and down his back. "I don't think Dad will make you come home for biting. You said you were playing?"
"Uh huh."
"And you got carried away and you said sorry?"
"Uh huh."
You run your hand over his hair and he falls sideways on his pillow. "No more biting okay?"
"Mmhmm." He sniffs. "Promise Dad won't make me stay home?"
"I promise. Let's get you back out there okay?"
"Okay."
_____________________
A few days after the biting incident Shawn decides to take Myles out into the wood for a run. It'll be his first one and he thinks maybe he's ready. If he's play fighting at school he's most likely ready to go out. Shawn invites you along and the three of you head for the Wolveswood.
"Are you excited pup?" You ask of the boy on your shoulders. "You and Dad get to run in the woods today!"
"You too!" Myles cheers and plays with your hair. "You gotta run too."
Shawn stops at the large oak tree and you set Myles down. "She doesn't shift, remember?"
"Oh yeah. Is she leaving?"
Shawn squats down and smiles. "She will still be here. You'll see bud, it'll be fun."
You take a seat on a root and watch as Shawn and Myles shift into their wolf forms. Shawn is pretty big, bigger than you remember and Myles is small like a couple months old puppy. He was small for his age so you're not surprised. The contrast between the two is alarming.
Shawn walks forward, nudging Myles toward you and he stumbles a bit. You reach out and pet Myles' head and he jumps into your lap.
"Hey bud," you pet his head again and he rolls onto your lap. "I don't think your dad wants you to lay on me."
Shawn paces and sits at the edge of the path. You set Myles down and he runs over to Shawn. You follow the two into the dense trees and it reminds you of when you would come here with Shawn when you were younger. The two of you spent hours with each other in these trees.
The two run along and you just enjoy the wilderness. It's just how you remember it being. The trees are all baren now, and the leaves cover the ground in beautiful orange and brown hues. Six years ago you left this place. How could you have been so stupid.
You feel something bump your back and you turn around to see Shawn. He has Myles at his side and you rub his ear softly. "What's up?"
Shawn bumps you harder and you stumble back. He does it again and you tumble into some leaves.
"Hey!" You brush leaves off your hair and Myles runs over, pouncing in the leaves around you. "What was that for?"
Shawn stalks towards you and Myles jumps in front of him, growling his hardest. You raise your eyebrows. Myles howls loudly.
Shawn shifts and stands before you and the pup. "Looks like someone is protective."
You put your hand out for him and he pulls you up. Myles runs off and hops around in the leaves nearby. "He reminds me of you."
"Yeah?"
"Mmhmm. Remember when we'd come out here with friends and you'd all shift?" You smile and shake your head. "You would never let anyone near me."
"Well that's because I had to keep you safe." He tucks some of your hair back as the wind picks up and blows it around. "Some of our friends were assholes."
"Yeah but no one would have hurt me."
"Accidents happen with young rambunctious wolves."
You smile softly and lean your head on his shoulder. "Yeah. You were always super cautious though." You loop your arm around his and he takes your hand.
"Do you think Myles is okay? Like I'm doing okay?"
"What? You're doing great. He's healthy and smart. He's not very big I'll admit but he was small when you found him right?"
"He was so tiny. Definitely the runt. It makes me sad to know he was possibly abandoned because he was so small they didn't think he'd survive."
You smile as Myles makes his way back toward you and Shawn. He looks delighted, like he's having the best time. "He's adorable."
"He likes you." Shawn says kissing your temple. "He knows that we're mates and he really looks up to you."
"He knows?"
"Hes a wolf. He can tell when others are taken. He might not understand it yet, I don't know, but he can definitely tell."
"I'm really glad I came back."
Shawn squeezes your side. "You can't imagine how I feel."
"I'm sure I can." You lay your head against his chest as he wraps his arms around you. "But I don't want to. I'm so sorry I put you through that loneliness."
"It's okay." He kisses your head. "You're here now. That's all that matters."
_____________________
It's a Monday when you and Myles head out of the Library front doors and see a woman sitting on the tree box. It's not unusual to see people sitting on the wood frame while waiting for someone or a ride or something. But there was something off about this woman. She put that sense of uneasiness in your heart, the way one might get when they experience something terrible. You guide Myles away from the tree and toward the sidewalk, hand firm in his.
"What's wrong?" He asks softly as you pick up the pace. Smart boy.
"Nothing Pup. I just want to see your dad."
"But you see him all the time."
You stop and pick Myles up and set him on your hip. He's heavy but not too bad. "I miss him is all. It was a long day."
"Yeah. It was." He sighs and lays his head on your shoulder. "Alpapabet is hard."
"Mmhmm." You murmur and hold his head against your shoulder. You can still feel the woman staring at you, but you will not look back and verify the feeling.
The walk to the coffee shop is long and exhausting with Myles on your hip. You don't want to put him down, something in you says to keep him as close as possible until you're with Shawn. The bell chimes over the door and you're glad to see the seating area is empty at the moment. It's nearly closing time, being late after noon, people aren't exactly flocking for coffee.
"Hey, how was school?" Shawn says, tossing a dish rag aside and walking out from behind the counter. "What's...?" You shake your head to cut him off.
You set Myles down and he begins to babble about his class and what he did all day. You take a seat and look out the window to see if the woman followed you.
Shawn sits across from you, having taken Myles to the play area behind the counter. "What happened?"
"Nothing happened. There was a woman outside the library and she made me uncomfortable. It's nothing, I just got a weird feeling."
"Was she saying anything? Did she approach you?"
You shake your head. "No. She just stared at me and Myles. It was weird, like I said, I was uncomfortable."
Shawn reaches across and takes your hands in his. "It's okay. Don't feel bad for trusting your instincts."
"No, I don't. I just hope Myles isn't uncomfortable."
"I don't think he is." He looks over at the small boy in the play area with his power rangers. "He seemed normal. Trust me, he will tell me if something is wrong. He has no filter. If something comes up again let me know?"
"Of course." You squeeze Shawn's hands. "I promise."

You and Shawn go out on a date Saturday night, his mom has Myles again. Shawn hasn't seemed himself all week since the incident with the woman. You don't think that's what is really bothering him, as he hasn't said anything at all. Something is on his mind though and you can read him like a book as he picks at his dinner unenthusiastically. It's unlike him not to eat.
"So, what's going on?" You say nonchalantly.
"Hmm? Why do you mean?"
"You're not eating. You've hardly said a word."
"Sorry." He sits up in his chair and looks at you. "I'm just thinking about work."
"Work?"
"Yeah. I've got some things to sort out. It's fine."
You reach over and rub his forearm. "Talk to me. I'm here for you."
Shawn takes a deep breath. "The shop isn't doing so great lately and I need to find a way to make extra income because just selling coffee for ten hours a day and only making the gross majority of my profit in the morning, isn't working out."
You nod. "I see. What have you come up with?"
"Food? But I'd need to sink more money into expenditures to get food to make that."
"Mmm. What if you do something simple? Two sandwiches and a soup offering? Bakery goods? Could you partner with another shop in town?"
"I could do simple items, things I can get in bulk for pretty cheap. Or buy baked goods in bulk for cheap and resell for a small margin."
"What about breakfast?"
"Pancake mix I can stretch, and eggs aren't too expensive." Shawn runs his hand over his hair. "I've got some in savings for Myles, just for like in case he needs something but I can use a little."
You lean your chin on your hand. "I can bring my parents patio set over to the shop and we can set it up out front for outdoor seating."
"Really? They've got that nice black set right?"
"Mmmhmm. They left it with the house and I am never going to use it. I can even help you prep if you need in the morning."
Shawn smiles big. "I could offer WiFi at the shop too?"
"You could, but remember that's another bill."
"Yeah, true but I think I could make it work. Maybe charge a bit for the WiFi?"
"You could. Or maybe bring in some live music? In the afternoons?"
Shawn nods and smiles slightly. "That'd be good, I could charge a small fee to set up. It'd definitely bring people in I think."
"Alright, then you have a plan." You steal a fry off his dinner plate. "You better eat now before I take it all."
Shawn slides his plate away from you. "I will eat. You're just as bad as Myles."
"Am not."
He grins. "You're right, he's worse because he is as bad as his Dad."
You roll your eyes. "You are terrible when it comes to food theft."
Shawn holds a fry up for you. "But I'll share. A good alpha cares for his mate."
"Stopppp," you groan and take the fry. "No mate talk right now."
"Save it for the bedroom?"
"Shawn!"
He cackles and you drop your head into your arms on the table. "Hey," he reaches over and scratches your head. "Don't be so shy. It's okay to be mated and talk about it."
"I know. It's just so much to think about still. We haven't taken the time to discuss it. I think I understand but y'know, I'll probably never fully understand."
"I'll help."
"I know. It's only been a few weeks...a month? Shit. I'm still processing my move and seeing you again and Myles. Everything has happened so fast. Don't get me wrong, I love that you're here and I love Myles a lot even though we've just met. I'm happy but I'm just a little overwhelmed, or maybe I'm overthinking."
Shawn takes your hand and squeezes your fingers together gently. "Take your time. No one is rushing you into anything. I'm here no matter what you decide to do."
"I'm not leaving, if you're wondering about that."
"I've wondered yeah."
"No, I'm home again, for good."
"Good because I'm not too keen on letting you go again."
___________________
Laying in bed with Shawn, staring at the ceiling, it feels like the last six years never happened. The man beside you is out cold, arm up over his head, jaw slack. He's so beautiful when he's like this. Relaxed, innocent, not a care in the world. You swallow hard and sigh heavily. You hate feeling like this, like everything is just going too well.
"What's wrong?" Shawn asks and breaks the silence. He shouldn't even be awake.
"I thought you were passed out."
"I was. I felt your heartbeat quicken and woke up."
"Oh."
Shawn rolls onto his side and slides his hand up your bare stomach to tuck it around your rib cage. "Have you slept?"
"A little."
"Is your brain too loud?" He yawns. "Anxiety?"
You pause. He remembers that you have anxiety. Of course he does. "Yeah, I'm just in my head."
He noses at your neck gently, gives you a little kiss and a soft lick. He's always done this. His affection has always been a little different than any other guy you've known. "Talk to me."
"There's nothing to discuss. It's just me, just my head. I'm overthinking everything and you know how it is."
"Let's get up." Shawn pushes up so he's leaning over you. "We'll get some water, have a snack or something."
"Alright. I'll try anything."
Half an hour later you're in the living room of Shawn's apartment, legs tucked up under you while the tv plays silently across from you. It's some early 2000s sitcom rerun that plays late at night on the lower cable channels. You're not paying much mind to it.
"Here, an adult lunchable." Shawn says, placing a plate with crackers, cheese slices and ham cubes on your lap.
You can't help but crack a smile. "Adult lunchable huh?"
"Yeah." He sits beside you and pulls the blanket off the back of the couch. "You heard me."
You pick up a cracker and a cheese with the ham and pop it in your mouth. It's good. Really good actually, the cheese is strong and you raise your eyebrows at Shawn.
"Aged swiss. I got it at the farmers market last week. It's so good." He grabs a combo of food from the plate and eats it.
"When did you get so fancy?"
"Sometimes you just gotta treat yourself. Besides, I thought you might like it too."
You giggle a bit and shake your head. "You're something else Shawn."
"I am." He curls his lip up to reveal his fangs. "That's not news though."
"Not like that you goofba-" A loud banging stops you dead mid sentence. It's almost three in the morning. Who the hell is knocking on a door? Or trying to break it down.
Shawn stands and goes to the window that overlooks the street below. The apartment is above the coffee shop, so there aren't any neighbors. "I can't see anyone."
"Maybe something fell in the shop?"
"No, that was a forced banging. I'm going down." Shawn grabs his jacket from beside the door and you jump up, setting the plate of food aside.
"What if someone is down there?"
"I'll kick their ass?" Shawn opens the door and you grab his arm. "Honey, I'm not going to let someone break into my shop and ruin my whole lively hood."
"Call the police."
"No time. I need to see what is going on."
"What if-" The sound of breaking glass makes you jump and let out a little scream.
Shawn runs down the stairs and you grip the railing to the lower door tightly. He disappears outside and you remain frozen, eyes trained on the doorway.
Five minutes or so tick by so slowly until he reappears. "What is it?"
"I have no idea." Shawn motions for you to come downstairs. "The window looks like it just fell out of the doorframe to the shop."
You follow Shawn outside and to the shop door. Sure enough there is absolutely no glass left in the frame. It's like he said, the glass just fell out and broke. "That's weird. What about the banging?"
"I'm not sure. The door is locked." He pulls his keys from his jacket pocket and unlocks the shop. "Stay here while I go inside."
You grip your phone in your pocket and wait for him to give you an all clear. A moment later he returns, the lights flickering on in the shop reveals nothing out of place. It just looks like the shop at closing time.
"This is wild, I can't tell what made the banging. That absolutely sounded like someone at the door."
"It did. I don't know. Maybe someone was trying to get help and then the glass popped out and scared them off?"
Shawn scrubs his hand over his face. "Yeah, maybe. I can't even tell if it was a wolf, there are too many lingering scents here."
"Let's clean up."
"I'll clean up. You go on up to the house. Try to sleep if you can."
You wrap your arms around yourself, his sweatshirt so warm against your skin. "I'm not tired anymore."
Shawn walks around a nearby table and cups your face in his hands. "Please? You haven't slept. I know you don't work tomorrow, but you need rest."
"But..."
"No buts." He kisses you softly. "Go upstairs."
You lay your hands on his chest. "Come get me if you need me."
"Yes darling."

You wake up sometime later, not remembering falling asleep. Your body must have been at it's limit. The light is dim shining in the window, likely a storm blowing in. Maybe it'll snow. You stretch out and your am collides with something soft.
You lift the blankets and find Myles curled up on Shawn's side of the bed. He's asleep, clutching his stuffed sea otter that he got at the zoo. He's told you the story about a hundred times in the last several weeks as small children do. Clearly it's very important to him. Shawn must have picked him up from his parents place before opening the shop.
The bedroom smells like coffee and you take a deep breath. It's so good. Rich and bright smelling with hints of hazelnut. You're such a sucker for coffee, Shawn really chose the perfect profession. You sit up and run your hand over your hair. Should you wake Myles up? No. Let him sleep.
Moving to get up you freeze, a little hand curling around your forearm. You look back and see Myles awake. He rubs his nose into the pillow.
"Good morning Pup."
"Mmmrning."
"I see you found me in Dad's bed."
Myles nods.
"Does Dad know you're in here?"
He giggles and shakes his head.
You run your hand over his hair. "It'll be our secr-"
Shawn walks in the open doorway and gasps playfully. "What is this? Have you stolen my mate?!"
Myles cackles and buries himself down in the bedding.
You laugh and Shawn leans down and kisses your forehead. "Good morning Shawn."
"Morning Honey." He tugs the blankets back to expose Myles. "I see I have a rouge pup in my bed, loving my mate up."
"Daddd! I was snugbulling!" Myles crawls over to your lap and lays his head on your thigh. "Momma's warm."
Your eyes go wide. Shawn must pick up on the way your heart stops because he lifts Myles off your lap and carries him over to the other side of the room. You can hear him say something to the boy but you can't make it out he is speaking so low. You remember your dream, the one from the day you found Shawn again. The one with the boy calling you Momma.
"Shawn?" You call out.
He turns and looks over to you, startled at the loudness of your voice. "Yes?"
"It's okay." You stand up and cross the room and put your arms out for Myles. "He can snuggle."
Shawn raises his eyebrows. "He can?"
"Yeah." You pet back Myles' mop of dark hair and he lays his head on your shoulder. "It'll be easier to start now."
"Are you ready for that? I thought you were still sorting things out?"
"I can't let myself wait to figure it out. I just have to do it, to be here and be in this." You kiss Myles' head. "I need to be a mate."
Shawn steps close and pulls you in, sandwiching Myles between the two of you. He presses a kiss to your head and whispers, "I love you."
"I love you, Shawn."
"I love you too Dad." Myles mumbles and blows a kiss. You both chuckle at him and he wiggles to be set down. "Breakfast Dad." He grabs Shawn's hand and you take the other one, fingers intertwining.

Another Monday comes following the really great weekend of staying at Shawn's place. You're sitting in the back office of the library getting books sorted that have been damaged. You're taking logs to make sure and order new ones of them. Your coworker Brenda who works the front desk walks in and closes the door behind her, making you look up from your work curiously because the door always stays open.
"Is Myles adopted?"
"Um, y-yeah?" You swallow thickly. Had someone found out he wasn't your son? It wasn't a big deal, but maybe it was. "Why?"
"Well, there was someone here asking to pick up a child early. She wouldn't give me a name but said his adopted mother worked here. I know you're not a wolf, so I thought maybe Myles was adopted and she was asking for him?"
You stand up and knock over your stack of books. "Is she still here? "
"No. She left when I told her she would need to bring a note of approval of absence from a parent."
You wrap your arms around yourself. "Do you have security camera access?"
"Yes of course." Brenda nods. "Do you need something?"
"I want to see the video footage of the woman who came in. Please?"
Brenda opens the door and waves you to follow. "Come on, I'll show you. Obviously you're concerned."
"Of course I am." You follow her down the hall. "If that woman was here for Myles then I need to know. No one should come for him besides myself, Shawn and Karen, Shawn's Mom. I'm going to assume it was not Karen."
"She would know his name, right?"
"Exactly."
____________________
After viewing the footage you call Shawn. The woman was the same one from the other day outside the library. The one who made you uncomfortable. The phone rings and rings. Shawn probably has it on the charger in the storage room. You click to hang up and go to Brenda.
"Can you put a note in Myles' file that no one is allowed to pick him up but Shawn or myself?"
"Of course. Is something going on? Do you think that woman was really here for Myles?"
"Yeah, maybe. Even if she wasn't, that behavior is extremely fishy. Can we ban her?"
Brenda nods and holds up a printed copy of a screengrab from her computer of the footage. "I'm already on it."
You nod. "Good. I'm going to finish my ordering. Let me know if anything else comes up."
____________________
As soon as you get to the shop with Myles and work you tell Shawn what happened, and how the woman was the same one that made you uneasy. Shawn closes up early and locks the front door. He's not happy, it's quite obvious.
"Does Myles know?" He asks as he sinks into the corner booth where you're sitting with a cup of tea he made for you.
"No, he doesn't. Brenda wasn't going to let him out of the care room under any circumstances. She didn't even know for sure if it was Myles she was asking for. The woman didn't know his name."
"Good." Shawn runs his hand over his hair and tugs. "You're absolutely sure this was the same woman?"
"Yes Shawn. I'm a thousand percent sure. I knew something was up, I just didn't know what. Why would someone try to take Myles?"
"I don't know." He looks to his son in the corner as he stages a little cafe with his power ranger toys and pretends to take an order. "I've had him for almost three years now. He'll be five, or what I assume is five, honestly we have no idea how old he is but developmentally he is almost five."
"His birthday is coming up?"
"Yeah. I found him just before New year's, out there in the snow."
"So that's his birthday?"
Shawn nods. "Mmhmm. The day I found him is his birthday. But that aside, I've had him this long and I've never had any problems. No one has ever come for him, or showed up looking for him."
"Maybe that woman is related?" You stir your tea and chew your lip nervously. "Maybe she has been looking for him."
"I've been afraid of that, but I figured that three years passed, no one would come back. Then again I thought six years was a sure thing you weren't coming back but here you are." Shawn lets out a heavy sigh that borders on a growl. "Fuck."
You reach across and grab his hand on the table. "Shawn, it's up to you what you want to do. You're Myles' father. If this woman is his mom, or his Grandma or related in someway, it's up to you if you want him to meet them. They left him, abandoned him to die in the Wolveswood years ago. They have no claim to him at all."
"I know. I'm torn. What if this woman can tell me something about him? What if I should know something?"
"I think in three years you would have found out if there was anything wrong with him. He's been to the doctor right?"
"Yes of course. Every six months he has his check ups and he's gotten everything he needs to be healthy. I even take him to the dentist twice a year to make sure his teeth aren't coming in wrong."
"Then he is fine. If that woman shows up again, then you can speak with her. Or if you don't want to do that, simply tell her to leave."
Shawn nods. "Yeah, I don't want to confuse Myles. I'll tell her to leave us alone."
"Sounds good."
"I do want to keep Myles here tomorrow. I'd just feel better if he was close, in case that woman comes back to the library."
"I'll let Lena know he'll be out." You bring Shawn's hand up and kiss it softly. "You're doing your best, don't stress."
"I know." He smiles tiredly. "I'm glad you're here."
"Me too."
______________________
Shawn keeps Myles home the next day. He has Lettie run the shop while he gives his son a really good day together. They go out for breakfast, go to the park, watch the geese at the lake, make lunch together. He makes sure Myles knows he is loved, not that he would really doubt it. Shawn gives everything he has and more to the child.
Wednesday rolls around and you have a day off since you're picking up a co-worker's Saturday shift. You decide to hang out with Shawn, learn a little bit about coffee and drink making. It's slow in the shop. Myles is down for a nap, Shawn having kept him home again since you wouldn't be at the library.
"So you wanna make drinks?" Shawn says sing songy and grabs a cup off the stack by the registers. "You wanna know my secrets?"
You giggle. "Share your sage advice oh wise barista."
"First you start with the bean!" Shawn grabs a handful of beans ready to go in the roaster. "THE MASTER OF ALL!"
You roll your eyes and let out a reluctant chuckle at his antics. "My god you're ridiculous."
"Maybe. But maybe I'm the bean whisperer. How bout that?"
You grab the cup from him and go to the coffee tanks. "Enough bean master, let's get to the mixy mixy."
Shawn chuckles to himself and steps up behind you. "Start with your brew strength." He points out each tank labeled with blonde, medium, dark roasts. "Then choose your flavors or sweeteners."
You pour out a dark roast cup. "I want caramel."
"This way, Honey." He says, going over to a little tiered set up on the back counter of pumps of flavouring. "Toasted caramel? Salted caramel?"
"Which is sweeter?"
"Toasted."
You lift the cup to the pump and out your palm over the spout. "How many?"
"Well, do you want the coffee to be lightly flavored or," He presses his nose into your hair and grabs your hips. "Extra sweet."
"Shawn," you giggle and he sways your hips in time with his. "Quit it."
"I can't help it." He wraps his arms around you. "I'm in one of my moods."
You pump down two squirts of the caramel and set the coffee down, eyes scanning for a stir stick. "Your moods huh?"
"Yeah." He slides a hand up your shirt and you slap your hand down against it to stop him. "We are in the shop Shawn!"
Shawn kisses along your neck and you can't help but shiver. "We've had fun in much worse places haven't we?"
"Shawn. Please, someone could walk in."
He lets out a growl and peels himself away from you. "Alright, fine. You ruin my fun."
You hold your cup up. "Maybe I have to because you have alpha brain right now and you just want to fuck and I want to learn how to make a caramel cream coffee."
"Yes darling." He shows you to the milk machine. "Alright so this is where we steak the milk. Please be careful."
You turn on the machine and wait as it bubbles inside. "Okay, when?"
"Hold on now." Shawn grabs a metal cup with a handle and gets under the bar to get a carton of milk. "We have to get the milk first."
"Oh. It's not in there?"
"No. It's going to just heat it." Shawn kisses your cheek. "Let me do it the first time okay?"
You step aside and he pours out the milk to a notch in the metal cup. He puts the cup up onto the spigot and flips it on. The machine bubbles and the milk gurgles in the cup. "That looks easy?"
"It's hot."
"You're hot." You smirk and Shawn gives you a warning look. You know you shouldn't tease him when he's already in a mood.
"Your milk." He pours it into your cup and stirs with a stir stick from a cup on top of the machine.
You lift the cup and take a sip. It's good. Not exactly what you wanted, but it's good nonetheless. "Should we check on Myles?"
Shawn nods. "He should be woken up. It's almost time for lunch."
"I'll go get him." You offer, setting aside your coffee. "You should watch the shop."
"I better not come up there and find you snuggled up if you don't return."
"But what if he wants snuggled? Shouldn't the baby boy be snuggled?"
Shawn rolls his eyes. "Five minutes. Don't spoil him."
"Oh he is already spoiled."
"Yeah," Shawn chuckles. "He is."
____________________
You walk into Myles' small bedroom and see him sleeping on his little toddler bed. It's precious, completely space themed with the bed being a rocketship. Shawn truly spoils this child rotten. You kneel beside the bed and lay your hand on his back, rocking him gently to wake him up.
"Pup, it's time to wake up now."
The moment your voice reaches his ears he jumps, small body jerking with incredible force as he presses himself to the wall. There is terror in his eyes for a flash of a second before he registers who you are.
"Myles are you alright? Did you have a nightmare?"
He crawls and begins to cry, arms wrapping around you as he clambors forward. You hold him, pulling him off the bed and into your lap as you take a seat on the floor more comfortably. He shakes, fingers curled tight in your shirt.
You rub his back and he continues his soft crying. "Tell me about it?"
"I was in the forest and Dad was gone and uh, uh a lady says I should go with her." He wipes his nose on your shoulder. "But but Dad said no because I don't know her that I don't do that. So I said no! and she got mad."
"Oh." You swallow hard, worried this dream could be connected to the woman who keeps appearing. "Did anything else happen?"
"No. I woked up and I thinked you were the lady."
"Oh bud, I'm sorry I scared you."
Myles releases you and sits on the floor in front of you. "It's okay Momma."
Your heart clenches. You won't get used to that name anytime soon. "Let's go see Dad. He probably has some lunch for you, or maybe we can get some."
"Oh good. I'm starving." Myles says matter of fact and goes to his bedroom door.
You follow after and he takes your hand as you go down the stairs to the door outside. It's busy, the shops across the street having people coming and going. You spot a woman on the bench across from the shop, opposite side of the street in front of the hardware store. It's her. You pick Myles up and he hugs you tightly. Your heart races and you stare at her, memorizing her face, hoping she is looking at you and understanding she is not welcome.
When you get into the shop it's busy and Shawn is rushing around behind the counter. The line is six deep. You carry Myles around behind the counter and into the storage room. Shawn gives you a look but you shake your head.
You wait until the line goes down and Shawn has a free moment to call him over to the backroom. He doesn't need much encouragement, he is on his way the second he realizes he is free.
"What is going on?" Shawn asks under his breath.
"Myles had a dream about the woman and she was across the street on a bench. I think she's stalking him."
Shawn sneers, flashing his teeth in a rare threatened alpha moment. His eyes go to the doors of the shop, scan across the windows to see anyone outside. "What does she look like?"
"My height, brown hair, quite a bit older than us. Maybe early forties? Or maybe time wasn't kind, but she is white and has on a brown sweater and-"
Shawn stalks across the shop and opens the door, going out and leaving you speechless.
"Daddy's mad." Myles mumbles and grabs your fingers. "Is he okay?"
"Yes pup. He is unhappy with someone outside."
"Can I have juice?"
You look around. "Where does Dad keep your cups?"
"Here." He walks over and pats a cupboard door under the register. "Juice is in the refridgermater."
You eye the front doors as you retrieve the juice for Myles. You don't want him to worry, but you're sure he already senses your anxiety rising.
A hand lands on your leg and you look down at Myles. He wraps his arms around your thigh. "It's okay Momma."
You clench your jaw and hold back your emotions. The boy is so sweet and so sensitive. You squat down and hand him his cup. "It's okay, I know. How bout we go see what Mr. Red ranger has ordered today?"
Myles smiles big and hurries off to the backroom where his toys are laying by a storage shelf.
The door jingles upon opening and you look over to see Shawn walking in. He's not much happier than he was before he went out. His teeth are still prominent, eyes wild. You're going to assume he has not found the woman.
"I don't like this." Shawn growls. "I don't play games and not with our son at risk."
"Our son."
"Yes that's what I said, I-" He stops and realizes the weight of his words. "My son. Our son? He calls you Momma so-"
"It's okay." You lay your hand on Shawn's shoulder. "He's our son."
"Yeah, he is. No one is going to take him."
"Over my dead body. She was gone wasn't she?"
"Yes. She was completely gone. I just want to talk to her, to find out what her problem is. We assume it's Myles, but maybe it's not?"
"You think she's after me?"
Shawn shrugs. "I don't know. She hasn't seen me as far as we know, and she's only come to your work until now. Maybe she needs to see you?"
"No, it's Myles. It has to be. He dreamed about her, there is something going on I just don't know what."
"Next time we see her, we will approach her."
"Absoultely. As long as I don't have Myles with me. I'm not risking her snatching him or something."
Shawn shakes his head. "No of course not. I have a feeling she will be back though. I'll take care of it."
_____________________
The next few days are quiet, not much going on at work or at the coffee shop. You have dinner with Shawn and Myles one night, go see a movie at the drive in another night. Life feels normal and good until you get home one evening and something isn't right.
It starts on your drive home. You turn the radio off while you think about the woman that has been appearing. You're not sure what has gotten you thinking about her, but something has. It bothers you. Why didn't she approach you? Why didn't she talk to you? What was her motive? It all points to Myles. She must be related somehow. Maybe she doesn't even know how yet. Maybe she just recognizes a familiar scent on him. You sigh and turn into the driveway of your house.
You sense something is wrong when you turn the handle on the front door and it's not even latched. You know you locked it because you locked yourself out that morning and had to go in through the garage to get your keys. You step back and grab the strap of your purse, hand going to your pocket for your phone.
"Anyway then he said he couldn't go but I know he could..." You spin around and see your neighbor and a friend walking past your house chit chatting.
"You okay honey?" The friend asks, stopping your neighbor in her conversation.
You step down off the porch and clutch your phone. "Y-yeah."
"You look like you've seen a ghost. Are you sure?"
"Actually..." You glance back at the door. "Have you two seen anyone here? Or anyone you don't recognize around the neighborhood?"
The neighbor shakes her head. "No, not that I can recall. Is something wrong? Is your house okay?"
"I think so? It's just my door is unlocked and I know I locked it this morning. I'm worried that someone may have broke in and-"
"Oh honey, call the police. I wouldn't mess around with that." The friend says, pulling out her phone. "My husband works at the precient let me just give him a call."
"Oh that's okay he's probably busy. I probably just made a mistake or something."
"Dear you should have someone stop by before you go inside. If you're confident you locked it and it's unlocked then you should not go in." Your neighbor ushers you toward the sidewalk. "There could be a feral wolf in there. Y'know I heard one of them rouge packs has been in the Wolveswood lately."
"What? Really?" You bring your phone up and open Shawn's contact. "When did you hear that?"
"About three days ago? Some of the ladies at the book club were talking about it. I really wish the city council would do something about it. What if one of the kids gets hurt out there?"
You nod and lift your phone to your ear. "Excuse me, sorry." The phone rings and rings. Finally after six times Shawn answers. "Shawn? Can you come by the house?"
"Of course. Should I bring Myles?"
"No. Drop him off at you mom's house. There is something going on."
Shawn says something to Myles. "I'll be there in a few minutes. Have you called anyone else?"
"No, um well, the neighbor is calling her husband who's a cop. I'm not sure what's going on but the door to the house is unlocked and...Shawn I don't want Myles to be scared. I don't want you to panic."
He takes a deep breath. "I know. I'll try to stay calm. I'm on my way."
You lower your phone and stare at the front door of the house. If that woman is in there you're going to lose your shit. This has gone too far. What if you had brought Myles home with you before stopping at the coffee shop? What if you went in and the woman was there? Would she hurt you? You step back and your neighbor lays her hand on your shoulder.
"Breath dear, you're turning blue."
"Sorry." You shake your head and take a deep breath. "I'm just nervous."
"That's alright. I understand, this isn't something to take lightly. Hopefully all is well and nothing has happened and you did just forget to lock the door."
"No, I locked it, and it's not even latched. Someone was in my house or is right now."
"The cops are coming." Your neighbor's friend says softly.
"Thank you."
____________________
The moment Shawn arrives he pulls you into his arms. The cops arrived only moments before and have gone into the house to investigate. Shawn buries his face in your hair and cups the back of your neck with his hand as if he let go for just a moment he might lose you. He's burning hot, skin radiating heat through his clothes and into you. You're sure he's going mad in his head, mind racing with every scenario that could have played out. You slide your hand up his back, nails raking gentle against his spine to soothe him, to bring him down from a feral high.
"The house is clear." An officer says as he approaches. His badge says Martin. "There's signs of an invasion, we'll need you to verify any missing items."
"Yeah, sure." You nod and step away from Shawn, hand going to his. "Come on honey."
Shawn walks with you to the front door and he tenses, eyes darting around as if he senses something, or someone. "What is going on?"
"Hmm."
Your hand falls away as you step through the door frame. "Is something wrong?"
He shakes his head and follows after you.
The house has been ransacked. Your living room is torn up, the couch flipped, Myles’ play pen is destroyed, the drawers of your end table opened and emptied. You cover your mouth and stifle a cry as you take it all in. Whoever it was, wanted something.
"Ma'am, I know this is difficult to take in. Please let us know if anything is gone. We will add it to the report."
"Is the whole house like this?" You turn and look at officer Martin and he gives a gentle sorrowful look.
“Some of the rooms are too.” Martin says.
"Oh my God."
"Honey, they'll find who did this." Shawn says and wraps his arm around you to pull you into his chest. "Or I will." He says under his breath.
You look at the mantle and a photo of you and Shawn with Myles is missing. "The photo from his first day of kids care."
Shawn looks back and forth across the mantle. "It's gone. Why would they take it?"
"For reference?"
Officer Martin steps in. "Something gone?"
"A photo of us with our son, Shawn's son technically." You explain, lifting another frame. "It's this big or so."
"Maybe it's in the mess." Officer Martin offers, looking around the floor. "Is there anything of value in the frame?"
"No, just the photo."
Shawn moves away from you and pulls the officer aside. "Sir, can I talk to you outside? It may pertain to the situation."
"Of course."
"Baby, I'll be right back, I'm going to talk to the cop outside okay?" Shawn calls to you as you walk into the kitchen.
You nod. "Yeah, okay I'll be here." You look around the kitchen and it's fine for the most part. Some stuff has been moved, drawers opened but not emptied. Beside the kitchen is the mudroom and it's untouched. You stare up the stairs adjacent, nervous to find out what your bedroom looks like, not to mention the other two rooms up there. You take a deep breath and start the climb to find out.
_____________________
Your room is untouched. It looks exactly how you left it this morning. You waste no time looking around and move to the guest room that was once your brother's bedroom. It's okay, the same as always. Then you go to the room that used to be yours, the smallest upstairs and the one you use for Myles when he comes over. It has a twin size bed and some of his toys in it. It is the room you're sure won't be untouched.
The door falls open when you push on it and inside is dark. You turn on the light and sure enough it looks like someone has localized a tornado in there. Everything from the bed sheets to the spare change of Myles' clothes are strewn about. You cover your mouth. Had the intruder really come for Myles, thinking he was here?
Shawn calls your name and you turn in the doorway to see him at the top of the stairs. "We should go get Myles."
"I'm not bringing him back here."
"No, we're not. We'll go to the apartment. I don't want you to stay here either. I think we should be together right now."
You walk down the hall to meet him and he puts his arm around you, cradling your head to his chest. "Why is someone doing this?"
"I don't know. They want Myles back? I can't imagine why. He was abandoned. It’s been years."
"I know. I just feel like it's my fault somehow. Everything started happening when we got back together."
"No, shh." Shawn kisses your head. "You haven't done anything wrong. Let's finish up with the officers here and go get Myles and go home. It's too stressful in this house right now."
_____________________
Morning comes the next day after a restless night and you wake up in Shawn's bed with a weight on your chest. It's Myles. He is using you as a pillow, legs and body stretched out across Shawn's side of the bed. You rest your hand on his hair and scratch gently. He stirs, wakened by your touch.
"Momma?" Your heart races, it does every time he calls you that.
"What, Pup?"
"I'm sorry."
"You didn't do anything. Why are you sorry?"
Myles turns his head and faces you, his little cheek squished into your skin. "Because you're scared." He pats his hand in time with your heartbeat over your chest.
You smile softly. "I'm not scared. I just woke up."
"But your heart is all bumbumbum."
"That's because I love you." You put your hand over his and he makes big eyes at you. "I realized you were sleeping on me and I am happy because you're my favorite pup."
Myles giggles. "Ohh. My heart goes bumbumbum too when you get me after school sometimes."
"That's when you get excited. Your heart can beat fast for a lot of reasons."
He nods. "Dad's does that when you are near him. What's that mean?"
You smile big and close your eyes. This child is so sweet, he has no idea. "It means Dad loves me and is happy when we are together. Let's go back to sleep. I'm very tired."
"Me too." Myles says as he stretches. He shifts around and lays beside you, cuddles against your side. "I love you too Momma."
You turn and hold him against you, chin on his head. He's warm like Shawn, the wolf in him making him run hotter than average. You close your eyes and relax, he's safe and so are you.
_____________________upadate
When you get up later in the morning Shawn is still gone. You assume he is at the shop working like usual but when you go down with Myles he isn't there.
"Lettie, is Shawn out?" You ask as you place Myles down by his toys.
The sweet old woman looks up from her magazine. "He wasn't here dear. I saw him come down this morning and head out across the street. He texted me last night about running the shop today for him. I figured he was going to your place but now I see that isn't the case."
"He left? He didn't say anything to me about that. What time did he leave?"
Lettie looks back at the clock. "Around five this morning."
"He's been gone all morning. Can you watch Myles? I'm gonna run upstairs and check for a note."
"Sure thing dear."
You head out the door and go to the door to the apartment stairs. Surely Shawn would have left a note or even a text saying he wasn't going to be at the shop. He never said anything about leaving yesterday, in fact he was pretty hell bent on keeping you and Myles close. You search the living room and kitchen counters for any notes. Nothing. No luck at all. Maybe something came up? But with who? His parents? The woman? You sink down onto the couch and stare at the ceiling.
"Shawn, what are you doing?" You ask out loud. "Why on Earth did you leave me here with Myles when shit is hitting the fan?"
You a,re torn. On one hand you want to go see if he's at the Wolveswood because you have a feeling that after finding out about a rogue pack he may have gone there for answers. On the other hand you have to keep Myles safe and leaving him with someone else isn't exactly your best option. Not that you stand a chance against a werewolf should anything happen gods forbid it but you'd rather he be with you.
There is no use keeping Myles downstairs with Lettie if Shawn's not working. You'll grab him and bring him back up for some breakfast and play time. It's best you just stay home and wait to hear from Shawn.
Two hours later and it's nearly noon. You've not heard from Shawn despite calling him twice and leaving messages. You're beginning to worry if he's alright. Myles knows something is wrong but he doesn't say anything, just sits real close and lays on your lap while you watch TV.
Nearly four in the afternoon and you have yet to know where Shawn is. Panic is starting to set in and you worry he's gone after the woman or the rogue wolves and gotten hurt. How could he be so reckless? How could he just leave you without warning? At least leave a note so you can send the police for him if he doesn't return by a certain time.
You grab your keys and get Myles dressed to go to his Karen's house. You're going to go after Shawn and the best place for Myles is her house. You have no idea how you're going to find him, but you're going to try locating his car first and work from there.
After leaving Myles with Karen you double back to the entrance of the Wolveswood. Sure enough Shawn's Jeep is there but you realize you have absolutely nothing to defend yourself with if you go inside. You turn back onto the road and head for your house. You have a taser in the top drawer of your dresser and you might have a knife or two in the garage from your dad's hunting and fishing stuff your parents kept in there.
You are in and out of the house fairly quickly, having found the taser and a good-sized knife for skinning deer. You hope you won't have to use either one but if the occasion comes you're ready. There is one last stop you need to make and it's at Shawn's place to lock up. You had forgotten in the rush to get Myles to Karen's place and you don't need someone wandering into his house.
You climb the stairs to the apartment and you freeze with your key in the lock. You can hear someone talking outside the lower door. It spooks you and you open the door and go inside, flipping the lock just in case. You go to the front windows and look down to see if there is anyone out there on their cell phone. There is someone there and it's a guy in maybe his thirties, looking at the door, then to your car. Your stomach sinks.
You feel around your pockets and realize you've left your phone in the car with your purse. Outside the guy stops talking and is standing in front of the door, looking up. You back away from the window and go to the kitchen. You grab a dining chair and shove it against the front door handle. The only other exit is through the fire escape in Myles' bedroom.
Just as you get the window open you can hear pounding on the front door you've blocked. As you suspected, the guy was not just some innocent passerby. You duck out of the window onto the railings of the fire escape. If you can just get down to the shop you know Lettie is in there cleaning up. You're not alone. You take a deep breath and try to calm your racing heart and shaking hands. Panic won't help you.
The latch on the ladder is stuck, rusty and unused. You kick at it trying to loosen it. If you can't get it undone you're not going to get down. The ladder stops short about ten feet from the ground and there isn't even a dumpster you can land on in a movie like escape. You kick harder and still nothing. You look up to the roof and there is a ladder there for maintenance but that's not going to help you if you're discovered. The roof is a trap.
You lean into the window and look around Myles' room for something you can hit the latch with. His room isn't exactly filled with tools or anything outside of plush blankets and action figures. There's a bottle of lotion on his dresser. Maybe it'll work as a lubricant. You crawl in and grab it and head back out to get to work.
Inside you hear the chair in front of the door scoot loudly against the wooden floor. You kick the latch one more time and it drops, the ladder extending down to the ground. Your heart clenches and you're gone, climbing down as fast as your hands and feet will allow. The ground under your feet is sweet solace as you barrel through the back storage room door into the cafe.
"Hey! Who's there?!"
"It's me Lettie!" You yell and head for the phone on the wall in the small office area where Shawn keeps his paperwork and invoices. "I don't have time to explain. Someone has broken into Shawn's apartment."
"What?!" Lettie looks up at the ceiling. "I heard some noise from up there but I figured you were just cleaning or something while Myles is away."
You dial the police and hold the phone against your ear as it rings. "I got out through the fire escape."
Lettie grabs her keys and heads for the front door. "That son of a bitch isn't getting away with this."
"Lettie! What're you doing?"
"I'm locking them in!"
"How?"
"I've got keys. It used to be my place before it was Shawn's. I've got the spares in case Shawn locks himself out." Lettie says triumphantly. "Let's see them escape now."
"Lettie- yes hello, I'd like to report a break in." You turn away from the old woman going out to lock the stairwell door to the apartment. "I'm at 223 Main Street at the Full Moon Brew coffee shop. My boyfriend's apartment above has been broken into. Yes I'm fine. No I'm not alone, I'm with an employee in the shop."
The operator asks a few more questions and informs you a squad car is on its way. Just as the woman is repeating back your information the line clicks and goes dead. "Hello?" You pull the phone away as the dial tone beeps. "Fuck."
Outside Shawn's Jeep pulls up in front of the shop and your heart stops. What impeccable timing. You can see Lettie talking to him and he looks upstairs then into the shop. He looks wild and you know he isn't going to wait for the police.
______________
"Shawn." You say softly as he enters the shop and strides up to you. "He's safe, he's with your mom."
"Oh thank Gods. How did you know what I was going to ask?"
"He's our son and he's not here." You glance up at the ceiling. "Of course you're going to ask."
"Who's in my house?"
"I have no idea. They showed up as soon as I got here to lock up. I'm pretty sure they followed me from the Wolveswood."
Shawn growls low and curls his fingers around the nearby countertop ledge. "He's one of them. There's a whole pack trying to find Myles. From what I gather he's the son of their alpha and his mother abandoned him because she and the alpha were not mates."
"How did they find him?"
"The mother confessed. She is the one we've been seeing everywhere. She thought she could just take him and save her life if she brought back the child before anyone found out she abandoned him." Shawn glares at the ceiling as footsteps creak across the floor boards. "I'm willing to bet that's the alpha."
"His dad."
"No. I'm his dad. I raised him and he is my child." He heads for the back door, following the footsteps overhead. "And no one is going to take him from you or me without going through my dead body."
"Shawn, don't start a fight. If you die, what happens to me? Do you really think they'll just interrogate me into giving Myles up and let me live?" You shake as you speak, voice trembling harshly. "Let the police take care of this."
Shawn stops at the backdoor and grips the frame harshly, the wood splintering under his grip. "I'm that guy's worst nightmare. He came after my family, my child. I won't wait for the police, I have to deal with him myself."
"Just wait! Shawn! No!" You shout as he runs out into the alley. He's going for the fire escape no doubt. You step out the door and he's already on the metal overhang above you.

YEONJUN
something random: not edited
____
You met Soobin three years ago, you walked into a grocery store and went down the cookie aisle. You bumped into him on accident, and he almost broke his back bending over and apologizing. He knew how to make you swoon. He then asked for your number and promised to pay you back. You didn’t know how many times he would put on this act of breaking his back and giving you a apology.
You never thought you would let it get to this point. Out of the three years you have been with Soobin, you never would have thought he would hit you. Neither did he, which is why he, once again bent over then left you on the floor and you watch him slam your front door. Your hand was cradling your burning cheek. You were more shocked than anything.
This has to be it; you couldn’t take it anymore. You hated yourself for staying with him for so long. You should have left when his brother Yeonjun asked if everything was okay a year ago. It was then when you knew, you knew it was not okay. Your mental health was completely depleted, you gained so much weight, and you could not even look at yourself in the mirror. The only thing keeping you going was Yeonjun, he was the light to everything. You were always at their house and so it was natural to become friends.
Yeonjun stood a bit shorter than Soobin. He being 5’11, and Soobin over six feet. You stand next to them, and you still look up a bit, you being 5’9. He gave off this hard look, always wearing darker, edgier clothes. He has piercings, or fakes ones at least. He looks so pretty, all the time. He is the one that makes you smile now. It truly acted different around you. A truly soft boy. If only he came around before Soobin.
Soobin, he was so great at first. His softness is was got you. He was a so sweet, taking you on lots of dates, and gifting you with gifts. You were not as lucky as he was, you did not have as much money, so you tried to give back with chores or art pieces, but it was not enough. He suddenly started to demand sex and treat you as if you owed him everything. He would get mad if you didn’t work out certain days, or if a chore was missed.
He was still soft at times, and he always apologized for the things he did to you, and you always forgave him. But now you just knew that he refused to let you go. And for your own sake you needed to leave. You just did not know how, nor did you want to leave Yeonjun behind.
You needed to just forget about what is happening for now, and deal with it later. You need to figure out how to break up with Soobin. Because he hit you, for the first time in your relationship he hit you. You could never forgive him for that.
You quickly suck it up as best you could, and you get in the shower. You decided to go out to the club. You quickly wash up and get dressed in a simple black slip dress. It bunched up in the right areas making your curves look great. You also put on some pretty black lace underwear that you never had the chance to wear.
You look in the mirror and notice how red it was on your face. You quickly pull out your makeup and put on a night glam look. You just wanted to go and get some drinks and then go to bed.
You finish up and call a cab. You didn’t even feel like dealing with friends, so you wanted to make sure you didn’t drive. You hoped that Yeonjun was here, he really loved dancing. He also loved drinking and music so it was a win to him. He fits in so well with the party crowd, but stands out so much at the same time.
You wore your AF1s for a reason instead of heels. You hated heels.
You go into the bar side of the building. It had less people and the music wasn’t as loud. There was a soundproof wall with a open door way letting in the music, but not to much. You sit at the bar and order a strong drink, and a couple of shots. You weren’t a big drinker, so you liked to down it and move on.
When you got the drinks, you drank both shots quickly and chased it with your main drink. You turn around in your seat, trying your best to hold everything down. What you didn’t expect is a almost neon yellow haired Yeonjun standing on the other side of the room, when your eyes met his head tilted a little bit. You waved at him, feeling relieved to see him here,
He wore all black and he walks straight towards you. The friends he was around looks at him confused, but connects it when they see you. You turn back around in your seat, trying to calm your heart beat down. The alcohol that you drank was started to burn through your body. He sits down next to you, but his body faces the room.
“What are you doing here? I thought you guys were having a date night?” He leans in and asks you. You just laughed softly, you don’t answer. Instead you throw back at least half of the drink down your throat.
Yeonjun frowns at what he sees. You’re acting strange, not like yourself. You’re drinking yourself into a depression, and he refuses to let you do so.
“Look at me.” He says. He words forced you to look at him in the eyes. His already worried face turned even more upset. “Why have you been crying?” His thumb runs across.
You grab his hand from your face, his fingers instantly grabbing yours.
“Lets just go dance.” You smile up to him. He doesn’t push it any further, and he just smiles and nods. He takes your hand tighter and leads you to the doorway that leads to the dance floor. It was filled with people, but he easily got you two towards the middle.
A slower song came on as he pulls you closer. You recognize it as Another Day by PARTYNEXTDOOR. He lays his hands on your waist and starts to rock with you. You lay your head on his chest a little, he lays his head on yours. He was so happy in this moment. He wish he could hold you forever.
You wrap your arms all the way around his waist. You then look up at him, he looks down and your eyes connect. It was a bit weird, it felt as if time had slowed down a bit. His gaze was so intense, and it made you so nervous. His hands reach up to your face. He holds onto your face to gently.
Was he going to kiss you?
You quickly turn around, rubbing your ass against him. You were blushing. His hands instantly found your waist again and started to guide you a little better to the beat. You leaned against him a little more. You let go a little bit, letting your body move more freely. You close your eyes and live in the moment a little. You felt the alcohol running thought your veins.
Where his hands lay, it tingles. Tingles so much.
As the song comes to an end, you tilt your head back a little more. With your eyes still closed, you could feel his head lean into your neck, his lips grazing against your skin. You let out a little gasp, enjoying the fresh feeling
The song Body by MINO came on, and his hands grip you tighter. His hands pull you in closer and his lips start leaving kisses all over your neck, and you let him.
He was on cloud 9. Not a drop of alcohol or drugs in him, and he felt a bit addicted. You’re his brother’s girl, he shouldn’t like you this much.
His hands start to travel up your body, applying pressure in the right areas. His hands leave trails of tingles behind. He turns you around so that you’re facing him.
“Ya know, Soobin will kill us if he seen us like this.” He says against your lips. His words make you freeze. He is right. He hit you already, what will he do next? You remove yourself from Yeonjuns warm embrace and leave. You were getting so overwhelmed so quickly. As you exit out of the door, you felt a hand on your wrist.
“Wait! Wait, Im sorry.” Yeonjun stars to go on. He let it go to far, he went to far. His heart was beating out of his chest. He could not lose you.
“No, youre fine. Its just-“you trailed off, bottom lip caught between your teeth as you contemplate what to say to him next. You could feel his eyes on you, scanning your face, examining the way your brows furrowed as you thought.
“Can we just go back to my apartment?” You ask him, your voice slurring slightly. He frowns a bit.
“You don’t wanna go back to So-“
“NO! Ill go home myself then.” You blurt out in frustration. You felt bad for not telling him, but why worry him? You turn around and start walking down the street. You didn’t think Yeonjun was following you until a moment later you look back and see the neon haired boy walking behind you with his jacket over his shoulder. His eyes were low and dark when they connect to yours. You just look forward and continue walking home.
You make your way up to your apartment and you unlock your door. Thankfully Soobin wasn’t here. You pop your shoes off and you head towards your bedroom.
“Yn.” His voice cuts through the quiet air. You turn back to him and look at him. All of the lights were off. The street lights shined in through your window, creating a shadow on half of his face. “Tell me whats wrong. Did Soobin do something to you? For the past three months you’ve been acting strange.” He finally asks you. You were afraid of this moment. The moment you were going to tell the most important person in your life your worst kept secret.
“He hit me, he actually hit me.” Your voice could barely get above a whisper. If you thought it was quiet in your home before, well now its dead silent. Its like time was actually frozen. “Yeonjun-?”
“When?” He voice cut you off. It made you get nervous.
“Its fine, im over it, I’m over him.” You shrug it off. You go to turn around, but he grabs you once again.
“No, you can’t be. I can’t let him get away with his. When did he do it YN?” He held you so gently, you couldn’t help but want more of it. You wrap your arms around his waist again.
“Today. He slapped me. But I know he didn’t mean it.” You mumble against chest. Your heart was beating so loudly in your ears. You felt his body tense up around you, and he pulls away from you slightly.
“What?” He sounded like he was out of breath. He pulls away completely. He looks at you a bit. You look completely normal to him. You look like you always do, fucking beautiful. But then he realized that he has only seen you in horrible lighting. He quickly pulls you to your room and turns on your light. He now notices how puffy your eye was. It was different from your usual crying eyes. Because only one looks damaged. How fucking hard did the man hit you.
“Yn, he couldn’t of just hit you? Are you sure this is the first time?” He asks you seriously. He had to know if his brother was truly a piece of shit or if the girl he was in love with blinded him.
You sighed.
“Its like every time he would get mad at me it would be for the littlest shit. And he would always explode, either breaking things around me or even breaking a finger.” You looked at Yeonjun in the eyes. “This time he hit me. And Im over it. I don’t deserve this. If you don’t believe me then fine.” You just shrug.
“Of course, I believe you.” He fights back and he tries to reach out to you but you dodge him. The look on his face when you did probably hurt you than the hit you received earlier. Before he could say anything, someone knocks on the door.
You both knew who it was. Soobin, coming to apologize and probably demand for makeup sex. Yeonjuns feet move faster than yours and he almost runs to the front door. You don’t follow, in fact you just shut your bedroom door.
Yeonjun opens the door and shoves Soobin away from it, shutting the door behind him.
“What the fuck?” Soobin says confused as fuck.
“Are you serious?!” Yeonjun yells at him. He has to hold back his voice before he wakes up the whole building. Instead he continues to shove him away from your home and down the stair.
“Look, I just want to apologize-“
“I don’t even want to know how many times you have ‘apologized’ to her. But she’s done with you. I’m done with you. Once you put your hands on her, its was really over with.”
“I already know. I am still so fucking sorry. I regret it so much.” He cries.
“Go home.” Yeonjun says walking away. He cannot even look at his brother in his eyes. He needs to go back to you and try his best not to let you slip through his fingers.
He opens your door and finds you sitting in the couch with your legs up. Your eyes connected with his when he spotted you.
“His he gone?” You ask softly. He does not know what to do. So, he just nods his head. “Are you going to leave now?” You ask him next.
“Do you want me to?” He asks almost as softly as you did, nerves making him feel nauseous.
“Not really. I don’t wanna lose you.” You mumble looking down at your fingers unsure of what to do to make him stay. You look at when he starts to move around. You watch him take his shoes off and make his way over to you.
Your eyes remain connected with him throughout the whole time. He bends down in front of you and drops to his knees. He slowly grabs your hands and holds them in his. You put your legs down and in the position you are now in they just fell naturally on both sides of him. He doesn’t stop there, he leans in even more. His face coming closer and closer to yours.
Its not that you freeze up, you just refused to move. You did not want to ruin this moment between you too. this could be the start of something truly beautiful.
He was moving slowly because he didn’t want to startle you incase you were to snap out of this for some reason. He just really wanted to show you that he refuses live without you.
Before you could do anything, his lips connected with yours. They were soft and gentle at first, barely pushing against your own lips. He pulls back just a tad to see how you were reacting to his moves. You reach up with one of your hands and caress his cheek. You truly could forget about Soobin with him. He made you and everything around you so much better.
Your hand made its way to the back of his head, lacing your fingers through his surprisingly soft neon hair. You push his head towards you, meeting him in the middle. Your lips connect with his. His was shocked at first by your sudden bluntness, but he quickly recovers by grabbing your waist and pulling you closer to him.
He wraps his arms around you, and you wrap your arms around his neck. Your hand controlled his head a bit, allowing you to gain control of everything. He let you.
Whatever you wanted from him; he would give it to you.

balancing on breaking branches: part one
jj goes to the water when the world begins to spiral around him. always has.
a/n: this will likely be a two or three part series, will be mayward too. i’m not sure when the next part of will be out, or if i’ll end up making this longer. inspired by this clip and title taken from exile by taylor swift. trigger warning for mentions of child abuse and minor references to drugs.
JJ goes to the water when the world begins to spiral around him. Always has.
———————————————————————
The day his mom left was a completely ordinary day. JJ was ten, his hair had been long enough that it was starting to fall over his eyes and he would have to tuck it behind his ears when he watched cartoons. Big John had been home that week and had asked JJ’s mom and dad if he could take both of the boys camping that weekend. JJ had eaten leftover mac and cheese for lunch and had put on a sweatshirt when he left to go meet John B because it was November and the air pinched at his pale skin.
Usually when somebody left there was a fight. A reason. At least, that’s what JJ had always heard. But JJ’s mom had been happy when he left—maybe she hadn’t, maybe JJ had only thought she was happy. She ruffled her fingers through his hair but she didn’t hug him, didn’t kiss the top of his head.
Luke wouldn’t tell JJ where she went. Why she left.
Instead, he drove to the liquor store and when he came back home he ran right through the mailbox and he had his music really loud.
JJ hadn’t understood that night. He knew his dad was angry but he ate some pretzel sticks while he tossed his hacky sack up and down at the foot of his bed. He didn’t have any trouble falling asleep.
She was still gone when he woke up. Still gone when he got home from school. Still gone when he got back from his camping trip with John B and Big John.
JJ started to cry when his dad yelled. She’s gone, boy. She ain’t coming back. It was the first time Luke had ever hit him.
It hurt. Fucking badly.
But JJ was ten and Luke told him he could never, ever tell anybody. JJ knew his dad had been drinking, that he was sad too. JJ waited until his dad fell asleep and then he grabbed his bike from the backyard and peddled as fast as he could until his tires hit sand.
It was too dark to surf or to swim. JJ didn’t want to get in the water, not really. The salt would just hurt the cut on his arm where Luke had pushed him too hard against the door hinge.
JJ sat on the sand, crossed his legs and tucked them beneath his bum. There was nobody around to hear him cry. He wished—just a little, unassuming wish—up to the stars that his Mom would come home soon.
She doesn’t.
———————————————————————
The first time somebody calls DCS on Luke is in fifth grade.
JJ thinks it was his teacher, because he wasn’t careful and he wore a short sleeve t-shirt when he knew better. Luke sits him down at the dining room table and explains how they’re going to handle it. He helps JJ cleans up the dishes that have been piling up in the sink and he puts all the alcohol from the living room into the cabinet above the fridge. He puts JJ’s clothes in the washer so there will be something clean for him to wear when the social worker gets there.
“I love you, son,” he says, and JJ clings to the words. “I don’t want them taking you away from me. And you don’t want to be away from your daddy either, do you?”
JJ shakes his head because he really doesn’t want that. It had been two months since his dad had last hit him. Two days ago, when he did though, it hadn’t even been that bad. Luke had picked him up after it was all over and held him. He had told him everything was going to be fine.
And it would be fine, if JJ did exactly what Luke told him and they could get the social worker to leave them alone.
It’s a woman and she gets to their house at exactly five—the time they had been given. JJ had his clean clothes on and is combing his hair when the doorbell rings.
She follows Luke around the house, glancing around the rooms and biting down on her lips or nodding at stupid things like electrical outlets or the ceiling fans. She watches JJ as he trails behind them and he stays close to Luke because if not the lady might reach out and steal him away from his dad.
After the house tour, the women wants to take JJ on a walk. He freezes but Luke just gives him a light pat on the shoulder and tells him to go with her. He isn’t sure but his dad smiles and the woman smiles and he follows her out the back door.
They walk around his house and down his street until they’ve reached the main road, and then they turn around and walk back.
She asks him all sorts of questions. He tells her about school and John B and Pope and about surfing. She asks about his mom but he doesn’t want to talk about that at all. He refuses to answer so instead she asks about his dad. He knows how to answer her questions. He remembers what Luke told him to say if he wanted to stay at home.
Before they go back inside she gives him a little piece of paper with her name and her phone number and tells him that if he ever feels scared at home he should go someplace real quiet and give her a call. He puts the little paper in his pocket and tells her he will—even though he knows he will throw the paper away as soon as she leaves.
When the visit is over Luke gives JJ a bowl of ice cream and they watch a movie. Luke starts drinking about ten minutes into it but he doesn’t drink himself into a fit, just into exhaustion and he’s asleep by nine. JJ cleans up his bowl and throws the empty bottles into the recycling bin out back. He sneaks the rest of the potato chips into his room and stays up late scribbling images of surf boards and super heroes on his school books.
———————————————————————
JJ gets really good at talking to social workers and the next time he has a home visit—which is in seventh grade—his dad doesn’t even have to tell him what to say. JJ cleans the house and puts his clothes in the washer and puts all the alcohol in the cabinet above the fridge. He makes coffee and gives two large cups of it to Luke while he searches under his bed to find textbooks to put on the kitchen table and on his desk. He lets Luke borrow his deodorant.
Nobody ever takes him away. Luke stops giving him ice cream after every visit. He never, ever hits him those nights. JJ always feels relieved. Relieved his dad isn’t angry. Relieved he is still at home.
But the relief drowns out of his body within a few days typically. He’ll do something to set Luke off—wrong place, wrong time—and Luke will hit him. Usually on his chest, sometimes around his neck. But it’s always careful. For as drunk and sloppy as Luke will be, it’s always careful.
A third of the time, Luke will say he loves JJ the next day. But he never says he’s sorry.
It hurts more and more the older JJ gets and he isn’t sure why because he’s getting bigger and stronger and Luke is getting older and drunker. JJ thinks it might just be in his head.
His dad always, always hits him on the anniversary of his mother’s disappearance. It’s usually the worst of the whole year. JJ goes to the beach at night when it’s all over and he has the sand all too himself. He keeps his cuts away from the salt water, laying down on his back tentatively so the dunes don’t put too much pressure on his bruises. He still makes wishes—very quiet, very secret wishes—to the stars. He wishes for his mom to come home. It was never like this before she left.
———————————————————————
The night of the ship wreck is a whole different type of hurt. The type of hurt that Luke can’t achieve through punches alone. The kind of hurt that JJ didn’t understand when he was ten and thought his mom would be walking through the front door by the end of the week. The kind of hurt that he couldn’t hide inside of him in front of Pope and Kiara and all the people surrounding them in that stuffy white tent.
When Officer Shoupe tells them what happened all JJ can do is clench his fists and yell because he’s not sad yet. He’s only angry.
The sadness takes a few minutes—his mind can’t process it that quickly. When it hits though, it hits hard. And JJ can’t hold back his tears, especially when he sees Pope and Kiara have started to cry. Mr. and Mrs. Carrera cradled Kie in their arms and JJ’s gut hurts. Pope’s mom runs across the tent and pulls him against her chest. Heyward holds them both. Suddenly, JJ remembers how cold it is. How alone he is.
Heyward looks up, as if he knew exactly what JJ was thinking, and reaches out his arm. JJ knows Heyward thinks he’s a shitty friend for Pope, that he’s shitty. But he is so close to falling completely apart and the thought of being held is too much to turn down. Heyward pulls him into the hug but Pope anchors him in place—keeps him from crumbling into the dirt.
Pope’s tears on his shoulder are wet and it reminds JJ that John B had drowned. The water had surrounded his body and penetrated through his lungs until he had no air left to breath. JJ chokes on his breath but there’s no water in his mouth and he tells himself to breath.
Pope breaks away and JJ’s legs sway. He reaches for Kie because Pope needs her. Pope doesn’t need JJ the way JJ needs Pope.
Maybe Heyward notices, maybe he’s just being kind. He cups JJ’s chin and tells him that he’s alright. He wraps his arms around JJ and it doesn’t hurt.
JJ wonders if maybe Heyward will ask JJ if he wants to stay the night but instead he offers JJ a ride home. JJ accepts because Pope and Kiara won’t let go of each other and that hurts too. JJ isn’t sure why. Maybe he feels left out. Maybe it’s something else.
Heyward leads him to the car and helps him with his seatbelt when his fingers shake too much to do it himself.
Luke is passed out on the couch when JJ gets home, which is a good thing for some many reasons. He doesn’t know about the Phantom yet. He won’t hear JJ cry himself to sleep. JJ watches Heyward’s headlights disappear through his bedroom window and he contemplates going to the ocean. Thunder breaks out across the sky and a bolt of lightning illuminates his bedroom through his mangled blinds so he takes off his boots and sheds his clothes onto the floor. He really wishes he could go to the beach. He really wishes his mom was here.
———————————————————————
Luke finds out about the Phantom the next day.
It’s bad.
———————————————————————
Everything changes after John B dies. It goes from John B and JJ and Pope and Kie to Pope and Kie and to just JJ. They grieve and it puts a space between them. Or at least, it’s easier to blame it on the grief than it is to blame it on himself.
JJ doesn’t answer Pope’s texts. Kie doesn’t reach out but Pope tells JJ, in one of the many unanswered messages, that Kie is really struggling. He says she won’t get out of bed. It’s sad but it makes JJ angry because he can’t lay around even if he wanted to. He has to work. He has to spend as little time as possible at home because Luke hits him a lot now. He has to figure out how he’s going to pay his restitution money. His hearing is coming up soon. He doesn’t reach out either.
He smokes a lot more. At first it’s just weed, because that’s all JJ has. But he can’t afford to keep buying it and save for his restitution fund, so finds Barry and he starts selling to earn his keep. Cocaine doesn’t relax him the way weed does. He’s scared to try heroin, so he doesn’t. Not yet. But he needs something because his body aches and he misses John B and he really misses Pope and Kiara but he can’t work up the strength to text either of them back.
He doesn’t see them all summer. Pope still texts him, but it’s less and less.
———————————————————————
JJ doesn’t show up to the first day of school because there’s a big purple bruise right across his face and he doesn’t have the energy for school. His probation officer is going to be mad because part of his deal was to go to school.
He was working for the Thorntons every day after school and on Saturdays too. He lost his job at the country club after Midsummers but he doesn’t actually get paid, per se, by the Thorntons. He just has to work off his debts. He also has to do community service—an idea Mrs. Thornton had because there wasn’t really twenty-five thousand dollars worth of work for JJ to do at her office or around their house.
Without any extra time to earn his own money, he can’t afford to eat very much. Luke rarely buys groceries, usually too drunk to notice or runs out to McDonalds for dinner. He never offers to get food for JJ. He hasn’t told JJ he loves him since JJ sunk the Phantom. JJ’s stomach growls and occasional Mrs. Thornton offers him some lunch or a glass of lemonade. He misses having Kie finesse them free food. He misses his paychecks. He misses his friends.
Between working off his debts to Barry and his debts to the Thorntons, JJ barely has a moment in the day to himself. So when he does, it’s late at night and tucked away on the beach. Summer is slowing starting to turn to fall and JJ brings a hoodie to keep him warm from the ocean breeze. He doesn’t let himself make any wishes. He can’t do that to himself any more.
He twirls his zippo between his fingers. Lighting it. Clicking it off. Lighting it again. His initials are carved into the front and it reminds him of the day he and John B smoked for the first time. He pushes the memory aside before it lingers long enough to hurt. JJ has a little bit of weed left but he’s not going to see Barry again for three days and doesn’t want to smoke it all right now.
JJ shoves the zippo in his pocket right as his phone vibrates. It’s Pope.
JJ has stopped even looking at the messages. He turned the preview off on his lock screen so he wouldn’t be tempted to open them anymore. But this isn’t a text, this is a call. JJ really doesn’t want to answer but his finger slides across the green bubble and suddenly Pope’s voice fills his ear.
“JJ?”
He’s not sure why Pope asks. Who did he expect to answer?
“Yeah.”
“You weren’t at school.”
“I wasn’t.”
Talking to Pope used to be easy. It doesn’t feel easy any more. JJ doesn’t know what to say. He hasn’t had a real conversation in a very long time.
“Why?”
“It doesn’t matter.”
And it doesn’t. School is absolutely irrelevant right now. If JJ were in school, he wouldn’t have time to sell for Barry and work for the Thorntons.
“It matters to me.”
Pope does that sometimes. Says something too thoughtful to JJ. Casually, as if he doesn’t realize the impact it has on JJ. Pope’s voice never wavers when he says stuff like that, when he cares too much. JJ isn’t sure why the words make him feel defense—Pope’s his best friend, it shouldn’t be as weird as it is. JJ grabs a handful of sand and watches the shadows fall between his fingers.
“I was sick. It’s not a big deal.”
“Sick? JJ, I know you’re not sick.”
“I could be sick.”
“You’re not.”
JJ doesn’t know how Pope knows he’s not really sick.
“Where are you?” he asks suddenly.
“In bed,” JJ lies.
“No, you’re not.”
How does Pope always know anyway?
“I’m falling asleep.”
“Dude, I can hear the wind. Are you at the beach or something?”
In the time JJ tries to think up a good lie, Pope seems to connect the dots.
“I’m coming. Which beach are you at?”
“I’m not—”
“JJ,” Pope says, and something about the tone of his voice makes JJ’s shoulders fall.
“Rixton’s Cove.”
“Stay. I’ll be there in five.”
Pope hangs up before JJ can respond. But he stays. Partly because he’s too tired to stand up. And, because he really can’t face Pope sober, he rolls the rest of his weed into a joint and lights up. He’s only had a few hits when he hears footsteps.
“It’s so cold,” Pope whines as he takes a seat next to JJ, “Why the fuck are you here?”
JJ shrugs—he knows that Pope can connect the dots for himself.
“I’ve missed you.”
“I know,” JJ says, because he’s not brave enough to say I’ve missed you too.
“It’s been two months,” Pope adds, as if JJ doesn’t know. Maybe he didn’t realize how quickly the days went by sometimes. “I’ve been so worried.”
Pope worries too much. Especially about JJ. He shifts and takes another hit.
“Dude,” Pope says softly, too softly for JJ. “Are you okay?” Based on the wavering of Pope’s voice, JJ can tell that Pope knows that he’s far from okay.
“Never better.”
It so much easier to lie.
“Don’t do this, man.”
“Do what?”
“Push me away. I’m sick of it.”
There’s no bite to Pope’s voice, only gentleness, and that’s what sets JJ off.
“Shut up, Pope. Just shup up!”
“What?”
“If I wanted to talk to you, I would’ve fucking texted you back.”
It’s dark, but JJ can see the way Pope tenses at that. It feels really good though, to release, so he keeps going.
“This is all your fault, you know that?”
“What’s my fault?”
“I said shut up!” It’s harsh. JJ knows how harsh it is. “Fifty thousand dollars, man. That’s what I owe because of you!”
Pope doesn’t seem to care that much that JJ wants him to shut up, because he asks, “How is it fifty?”
“Restitutions and reparations, man. All because of you. How do you think I’m gonna pay them back? How do you think I’m paying Barry back without any fucking money? How do you think I could possibly go to school when I’m working from sunrise until sunset just so I don’t go to fucking juvie, Pope? Huh?”
Pope is silent. It’s the first time JJ wants a response and he doesn’t say a word.
“I’m gonna be doing this for years because of you! John B’s fucking dead in the ocean somewhere and you and Kie are off macking on each other while I can’t even afford to fucking eat anymore and by the time I’ve paid off my debts you’re going to be off at some fancy school and Kie’s gonna be doing whatever the fuck she’s gonna do and where do you think I’ll be, huh?”
“What do you mean you can’t afford to eat?”
JJ rolls his eyes because that’s not what he wanted Pope to focus on.
“Bro, talk to me.”
Bro.
JJ kicks at the sand and tries to take a breath so his lungs don’t fill with water. Pope reaches out but JJ pulls away because it’s dark and JJ forget that it was Pope sitting next to him.
“JJ?”
It’s too soft. Pope is always too gentle.
JJ starts to cry and he wishes he was still angry. Anger is so much easier than this.
“I’m so sorry,” Pope says, reaching out for JJ again. This time JJ doesn’t pull away. He’s too tired. Pope’s hand rests on his shoulder. It’s firm but not so tight that it will bruise.
———————————————————————
Pope drove JJ to McDonald’s because it was open and JJ got lightheaded when they stood up. JJ wants to argue because the offer makes him feel pathetic but he feels dizzy and his stomach growls so he gets into Pope’s car and watches as raindrops begin to shower across the windows. The motion of the windshield wipers calms him a bit. Pope doesn’t say much on the way there.
He gets a milkshake after he forces JJ to order more than just a burger and fries. JJ really wanted more than that but he didn’t want to push. All the tables are open since nobody else is awake but they sit in the corner where it’s far enough from the counter that the employees won’t hear them.
Which is funny because they don’t really talk. At least, not for a while.
“Kie and I aren’t together,” Pope says once JJ is done with the two hamburgers and is starting on his fries. Pope’s only had a few sips of his milkshake.
“Really?” JJ asks, his voice raspy from the crying and filled with half-chewed fries. Pope nods.
“After everything that happened, neither of us really wanted to dive into a relationship.”
JJ doesn’t know what to say. For some reason he feels a bit relieved. He doesn’t know why—even though he does, in fact, know exactly why.
He’s always known. He’s always tried to convince himself he was confused. But he’s always known.
“She asks about you.”
“Oh.”
“I know you two don’t talk anymore, I know we don’t talk anymore. But we still care about you.”
Pope is too forward most of the time. He cares so openly that JJ can’t always believe Pope is real.
“Is there anything you want me to tell her?” Pope asks when JJ doesn’t say anything. It’s weird, to not be the talkative one. Pope is good at it though.
“Don’t tell her about this,” he asks, motioning down to the food. He hopes that Pope knows he’s talking about JJ not being able to eat.
“Nothing else? Not even a hello?”
“Hello is fine.”
“Okay, JJ,” Pope sighs and takes a sip of his milkshake. JJ knows he’s being difficult, he knows Pope is more patient than anybody he’s ever met, but it still makes his chest tighten. “Whatever.”
“I’m sorry.”
“What for?
“Tell Kie I said hi.”
“Why don’t you tell her yourself? Why don’t you ever talk to us anymore?”
JJ isn’t ready for this conversation but he’s all out of fries and Pope’s eyes are stuck on him and there’s no way he can just bolt. Well, maybe he can. Not if he lets his own eyes meet Pope’s though.
“Is it your dad?”
“Don’t ask me that.”
“JJ, come on. You’re my best friend, you don’t have to hide this shit from me.”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” And he didn’t. There was no way Pope knew what he was asking of JJ.
“Then tell me, JJ.”
And for a moment, JJ considers telling him. He really didn’t have much to lose.
“I don’t know.”
“What don’t you know?” Pope asks, his voice softer again. JJ’s eyes fall to his hands because looking at Pope makes him want to cry and he’s not doing that again tonight.
“I don’t know what you want me to say.”
JJ made the mistake of meeting Pope’s eyes. Warm and open and fucking up the way JJ felt. His breath hitched and he knew why.
“I want to know why we don’t talk anymore.”
Straight forward. Maybe for once in his life JJ can be straight forward.
“Because,” he took a deep breath, trying to remember all the reasons why he shouldn’t say anything, “it’s hard to talk to you sometimes.”
“Why?”
JJ wished they were still on the beach in the dark. Wished for a lot of things.
“Because I like you.”
He couldn’t take it back. Not now. Couldn’t spin it if he wanted to.
Pope’s eyes widened and then his brows scrunched as if he didn’t quite understand. JJ didn’t want to elaborate.
“You like me?”
JJ shrugged and bit down on his lip because everything felt like too much.
“You mean—?”
“Yeah, like that.”
“Oh,” Pope expressed quietly, shocked. He didn’t sound mad but he didn’t sound particularly excited either. JJ wanted to bury himself in the sand.
“Look, thanks for the food, but I have to get home,” JJ started, sliding out of the booth to stand up.
“Wait. Don’t,” Pope protested, standing up himself but JJ was always taking steps away.
“I have to go.”
And he ran all the way to the beach.

twenty four hours
a/n: ashton makes me very soft and very in love. a party and ice cream.
pairings: ashton irwin x oc
Ashton knew he shouldn’t be at this party. The copious amount of alcohol lining the bar, women willing to throw themselves at him at no cost and the loud music booming over his head. He shouldn’t be here, especially not after a break up. But his brothers insisted that he stop moping around at home playing old records and they brought him to this party. Heck, he didn’t even know who’s party this was. It was all a blur of people intoxicated and high, laughing at the stupid little things. He had a mock-tail in his hand, as he stood awkwardly in the middle of what was once the living room watching his friends chug beers and take one too many shots. His eyes were scanning the room, looking for some form of escape - a door, a person, just something he could run to. Then he saw it - the balcony door. It was slightly ajar and the outside looked empty through the tinted glass. He excused himself from his friends, whispering in Luke’s ear to make sure they didn’t leave without him. It was followed by a long whine and a “where are you goinggggggg” but Ashton couldn’t be bothered, he was headed straight for his escape. He pushed the sliding door open carefully, just enough so his body could slip out into the balcony but not wide enough for the drunkards to notice where he had gone. The cool air brushed his face softly and he finally felt like he could breathe.
“I guess party’s aren’t for you either?” The voice made Ashton jump, the mock-tail in his hand swooshing and splashing over the edge of the glass. He shook the wetness from his hand, looking up to see a girl leaning against the railings.
“Sorry I didn’t mean to scare you” She chuckled, handing a napkin to him to clean it off. He thanked her, before wiping the sticky liquid off his skin. He joined her to lean against the glass railing, overlooking the LA skyline.
“My friends made me come to this party, thought I was staying in too much” He told her as he set the now half empty class on the planters next to him. She nodded, taking a sip of the whiskey in her hands.
“I guess that makes two of us” She turned towards him, “This is supposed to be my party, but I’m out here drinking whiskey on the balcony, alone. My friends are probably drowning in disappointment”
Ashton laughed at her response, a first real laugh in three weeks. A smile was stuck on his face as he watched her - dark hair to her shoulders, black dress clinging onto her body and hugging her curves in all the right ways, and a pair of sparkly heels. She wasn’t perfect but he had to admit that she looked beautiful.
“Are you checking me out?” Ashton’s eyes went wide at her comment, words struggling to leave his mouth. She smiled and shook her head, downing the rest of her drink before placing the glass next to his.
“I’m kidding dude, chill” She reached her hand out and Ashton shook it, “Skylar Montez, you can call me Sky”
“Ashton Irwin”
“I know”
“You knew?”
“Having girls throwing themselves at you the entire night is not something that goes unnoticed, Mr Irwin” He chuckled, glancing back into the room to see a couple of girls surrounding his friends.
“And your 6 foot height along with a mop of red hair gave you away the moment you walked through those doors” Another laugh. He was starting to enjoy her company. They stood there in a comfortable silence, arms brushing against each other as they looked out at the scenery again. He closed his eyes after a couple of seconds, letting the cool breeze touch his face. His cheeks turned a soft shade of pink, and his hair was a mess of curls falling on his face. He felt someone grab his bicep, squeezing it slightly. His eyes opened to see her looking at him.
“I know this may sound crazy as fuck given I just met you five minutes ago, but do you want to bail? I know a place.”
“Uh-” Ashton’s eyes flickered to his drunk friends and back to her. She followed his eyes to the three boys, taking shot after shots of tequila.
“I could have someone drive them home, or they could just pass out here. It’s my house anyway.” Ashton smiled, deciding to say fuck it all tonight. He agreed and they slipped back into party, pushing themselves through the mass of people. Skylar stopped at one of the guys standing by the bar, looking too serious to be at this party. She whispered something in his ear before pointing to Ashton’s friends and the guy nodded before his eyes flicked over to Ashton. He felt the cold stare of the all-too-serious guy before he was being pulled away by Skylar. She changed her heels for a pair of white sneakers, grabbing her coat, purse and keys before they bolted out the door. The streets were quiet as they walked down the slope to the main road, she turned down a couple of small alleyways before they arrived in front of a bright neon sign - ICE CREAM: TWENTY FOUR HOURS. The smile on Ashton’s face couldn’t be any bigger when Skylar looked over at him. The bell rang loudly as he pushed the door open for her and they were met with the slightly warm air of the 80’s inspired ice cream shop. She was running straight to the counter like a small child and Ashton was following behind her. There wasn’t anyone behind the register, until she began ringing the bell by the counter non-stop. A boy, no older than Ashton stuck his head out from the back room, a smirk forming on his face when his eyes met with Skylar’s.
“Montez!”
“Russo!” She shouted back while they did a high-five over the counter. He wiped his hands down and began to take a huge empty cup and an ice cream scoop.
“The usual?” She nodded, eyes eagerly looking at the array of ice cream flavours under the glass. The guy then acknowledged Ashton’s presence, gesturing to the spread in front of him.
“How about you, brother?” Ashton’s eyes scanned the spread as they both stared at him. He pointed to the cream coloured tub with flecks of brown and dark purple - Rum and Raisin. If he wasn’t going to drink, he was going to at least have some in his ice cream. The guy nodded, scooping a huge amount into a tub and sticking a small wooden spoon on the top. He then scooped an array of flavours for Skylar’s cup, her’s definitely looking like a rainbow madness. Ashton rushed to the register before Skylar could and placed twenty dollars on the table. Skylar tried to push him out of his place but to no avail, the 6 foot giant was not budging. He pulled both their tubs of ice cream down from the counter and handed Skylar her tub.
“You can pay next time” She shook her head and rolled her eyes, stuffing the ice cream into her mouth. They sat in a tiny booth, Ashton’s legs barely being able to fit into the seats. His legs were stretched out under the table, carefully avoiding Skylar’s as they talked about everything under the sun. Ashton found out Skylar was the daughter of the owner of a multi-billion dollar company, hence the body guards watching over the party at her place. He found out that she was also a music producer, and when he searched her pseudonym on google, the longest list of songs (mostly hits) were all produced under her name. She told him about her break up, her hiatus from producing and how her friends convinced her to let them throw a party at her place. He told her about his break up, how they’d just got back from a world tour and they were planning on making another album already. She promised to help with the new album which made Ashton jump for joy inside.
They emptied out the ice cream in their tubs and Russo brought them hot teas while they talked. Ashton’s legs were now resting against hers under the table, they were both tired and high from the sugar in their system, and the sky was starting to lose its darkness.
“We should probably head back” She suggested when the sun started to peak through the windows of the shop. He agreed, helping her out of the booth and throwing their soggy, empty tubs away. She bid goodbye to Russo, him winking at Ashton when he opened the door for her. Their arms brushed each other as they walked back in silence, the exhaustion slowly creeping up their skin. Skylar felt her skin tingle when it came into contact with Ashton’s, and before she knew it, he intertwined his fingers with hers. She looked up at Ashton, who had a small smile on his face when he realised she didn’t let go of his hand or push him away.
“Is this okay?” He asked, rubbing small circles with his thumb. He didn’t want to get this wrong, especially not after what they’ve both been through. She nodded, leaning into him as they walked back to her home. The streets leading up to her house were now empty, the cars that were once there now gone except Ashton’s. They walked toward her house that now looked bigger in the daylight - two stories with a large garden, a couple of cars lining the garage. She was still leaning into him as they walked through the doors, one of the large serious men he met last night approaching her and leaning down to talk into her ear. She pushed him back slightly, smiling softly as her eyes flicked to Ashton, then back to him.
“It’s okay, you can say what you want to say” The guy nodded, clearing his throat, “Your friends are passed out on the couch, I didn’t get to send them home. Emily and Michaela left with some guys and the cleaners have cleaned up” Skylar thanked the older man and pulled Ashton along with her to the living room. Luke, Michael and Calum were all asleep on the couch, a blanket draped over them as they snored. Ashton shook his head at the sight, wanting to apologise but she was already tugging at his hand.
“Let your friends sleep it off for a couple more hours, and you can do the same” She smirked as she pulled him into her room, flopping on the bed immediately. He landed next to her with a loud ‘oof’ and she was snuggling up into his arms. He brought her closer, her hair tickling his nose as she hid her face in his chest. Skylar was out within seconds, soft snores escaping her lips. She was completely relaxed in his arms as was he, and he kissed the top of her head, strawberry scented shampoo filling his nose.
Maybe this party wasn’t that bad after all

Yo, anon from before. How about instead of the two fics, then maybe a short oneshot where Sokka and Zuko take a night walk and confess their feelings. If you don't want to do that then that's okay. Also, the art is really cool!
Hey so I took this and ran with it and ended up with over 2k words so! Enjoy your oneshot!
Zuko rubbed the sleep out of his eye, refocusing on the rolled parchment before him. He still couldn't tell if the character he was looking at had a stroke missing, or if it was simply a word he actually didn't know.
"Or," Sokka's voice drifted over his shoulder, startling him into dropping the scroll, "You're too tired to read. Come on, let's do something fun."
Zuko yawned, retrieving the scroll and rolling it up properly. "You're not going to try to make me go to bed?"
"Nope. Never works, anyway, you just end up staring at the ceiling and thinking about how much work you could be getting done, which kind of defeats the purpose."
Zuko couldn't help but huff out a short laugh. Sokka cracked that crooked grin he always got. "You know me so well. Well, what are we doing, then?"
Sokka presented him with a papier-mâché mask, pulling his own down over his face. The mask he wore was red and twisted, the mask of an evil spirit. He'd handed Zuko a blue one, reminiscent of his old Blue Spirit mask, but slightly different in its design. He imagined it was modeled for the same character.
"There's a festival going on in town. It's winding down by now, but we should still make it in time for the fireworks."
Zuko smiled, slipping the mask on and pulling a relatively casual robe from his armoire to pull on.
"Ooh, fancy. Getting dressed up for me?" Sokka teased. He was dressed down in Water Tribe blues, the soft cotton out of place compared with Zuko's silks.
"It's all I have." Zuko admitted, embarrassed.
Sokka shrugged. "It'll do. Just try not to get mugged."
"I'm more worried about getting caught by the guards. We're going to look like suspicious characters, sneaking out of the palace at night in masks."
"Then we have to be extra careful not to get caught, don't we?"
Zuko couldn't see his face, but he was perfectly familiar with the mischievous grin Sokka was undoubtedly wearing beneath the grimacing mask. Zuko's lips tugged into an answering conspiratorial smile.
"Lead the way."
Sokka obeyed, tugging the Fire Lord through the servant's corridors and to a suspiciously uneven spot in the wall. He slid a brick out of place, revealing a mechanism beneath, and directed Zuko to send a pulse of fire into it, revealing one of the palace's many secret passageways.
"How did you know this was here?" Zuko probed, padding quickly behind his guide.
"Oh, Ty Lee showed Suki, and Suki showed me. Pretty nifty, right?"
Of course, Ty Lee was perfectly familiar with the ins and outs of the palace. Azula never could sit still for long, not when there was trouble to get into, and never did so without someone to take the potential fall for her.
"Useful, yeah." Zuko agreed.
The air before them became suddenly cool, a breeze flowing in from the loose-fitting bricks in the flat wall. Sokka bent down, sliding his fingers between two of the bricks, and tugged on a hidden mechanism, sliding the other end of the passage open.
The wall opened up onto a rooftop in the upper part of the city, affording them a view of the streets below. Citizens in their finest clothes, donning masks of all colors and designs, bustled about the busy paths. Booths lined both sides of the main thoroughfare, merchants hawking their wares, gamesmasters recruiting players, the scent of foods wafting out from here and there.
Zuko had never attended a festival like this, personally. It would seem too common, and awfully unrefined, for a prince to be prancing about. They watched on from afar, once or twice, putting in official appearances, but even then…
Zuko couldn't remember festivals in the capital city having ever been so exuberant. People seemed joyous, unburdened, laughing openly and easily with one another, bumping into strangers without sparing a thought.
It was odd, yes, but also comforting, in a way the Fire Lord couldn't quite articulate.
"Come on! They're doing the fireworks by the harbor, we want to get a good view!" Sokka cut through his thoughts, as he was so talented at doing, and tugged him forward.
They hopped between rooftops for a bit, avoiding the bustling crowds, until they came to an alleyway with boxes stacked high, an easy way to descend. Zuko hopped down in two long jumps, easily reaching the street level before his companion, who was delicately sliding down each box.
"No fair! I have to be nice to my leg still!" Sokka whined. Zuko smirked back at him, hidden behind the blue mask.
"I'll keep that in mind. I forget how delicate you are, Princess."
"Hey!" Sokka punched him lightly in the shoulder. "You can't make that joke! You're an actual Prince!"
"I don't know if you've heard, but I've been promoted. I have a new title now."
"Yeah, yeah, get a big head about it." Sokka grumbled in mock aggravation.
"Don't worry, I could never get a bigger head than yours." Zuko held a hand to his face to cover his smile at Sokka's dramatically offended reaction, forgetting it was already hidden by the mask.
"Fine! I won't let you share my fire flakes, then!" Sokka stomped off, huffing.
"Oh, don't worry. I can afford my own." Zuko responded loftily.
"I changed my mind, actually! You're buying the snacks!"
Zuko stifled his laughter, following Sokka's lead as the other boy led the way between stalls, picking up various spicy snacks and a couple of drinks Zuko wasn't sure he trusted him with.
"Do you know how strong those are?" He interrogated. Sokka shrugged.
"We'll find out, won't we? Come on, let's go get a good seat. They're starting soon."
Sokka led the way through several alleys, away from the busy main street, until the crowd thinned.
The building he climbed up was in minor need of repair, and the windows were darkened, leaving them reasonably certain it was empty. Zuko gave him a leg up, minding the mostly-healed injury, and passed the snacks up after. He ignored the hand Sokka dangled down to assist him, smoothly vaulting up the wall onto the roof next to him.
"Show off." Sokka lifted his mask to rest on top of his head, revealing the dramatic roll of his eyes. Zuko followed suit, sliding his mask to the side, letting Sokka see his smirk. "Ugh, sit down already. And pass me the fire flakes."
Zuko complied, resting next to the other close enough for their knees to brush as they dangled their legs over the side of the roof. Sokka munched the spicy snack, using his drink to cool his mouth down. Again, Zuko worried about its strength, sipping at his own. It didn't taste very alcoholic, but it was also deliciously tangy, which could be pretty deceptive.
The whistle of the first firework pulled him from his musing.
The blast shot high in the sky, a sparkling array of colors scattering and shimmering against the dark sky beyond. The next blasts came in clusters, the explosions lighting up the sky in carefully coordinated patterns. Below, several master firebenders synchronised a dance with the fireworks, bending dragons of flame to follow the blasts.
"Wow…" Sokka breathed next to him.
Zuko understood the wonder. He'd seen fireworks before, sure, but they were never focussed near the palace. The noise alone was reason enough, and the soot left behind to clean up after solidified their location as far away from the nobility as possible.
"You know…" Sokka murmured, leaning into Zuko, their shoulders bumping together. "I always thought of firebending as a scary thing."
Zuko hummed. "It can be. You had good reason."
"Yeah, but…" Sokka huffed, choosing his words. "When we first went to a festival like this, we saw the fire dancers performing just like that, fire dragon and all. I'd never even considered that bending could be used for something like that. Something beautiful."
Sokka's eyes were trained on the display in front of them. Zuko searched them, looking for the further meaning in his words.
"All bending is like that, I think." Zuko finally said. Sokka tore his eyes away from the fireworks to catch his gaze. The colors reflected so clearly in his icy blue eyes. "Both beauty and danger. I mean, just look at what your sister can do with hers."
Sokka winced for a moment, leaning away. He forced a laugh. "Yeah, she's pretty scary. Everyone thinks of waterbending as soft and healing but, hoo boy, can she do some damage."
Zuko felt like he'd missed something, ruined a moment he hadn't even known was happening. He simply nodded. "Exactly."
They went back to sharing their snacks and watching the performance, a strange silence settling between them.
Zuko cleared his throat, desperate to destroy the awkwardness he'd unwittingly dropped on them. "So… what's the festival for? Do you know?"
Sokka laughed, genuinely this time. "Shouldn't you know? You're the Fire Lord, right?"
Zuko shrugged. Sokka smiled, looking out over the crowd a few streets away. "They're celebrating just to celebrate. Because they can."
"Oh."
Sokka nudged him, bumping their shoulders again. "We did this, you know. Even here, the people were scared. The war wasn't good for anyone. We made this possible."
Zuko shrunk into himself, familiar guilt settling into his stomach. Sokka set down the cup, nearly empty, and turned to face him fully, folding his legs under him.
"You made this possible." He emphasized. "This is why you've been working so hard. Your people can celebrate like this, have fun openly in the streets, watch some fireworks! Did you see how many people from other nations were there, too?" Sokka reached out, tilting Zuko's chin to force him to look back at him. Zuko swallowed, overwhelmed by the emotion in Sokka's crystal blue eyes. "We fought so hard for this, and it's finally possible. This is… well, this is what I wanted to show you." He dropped his hand, looking away, embarrassed. Zuko felt his lips part in surprise, eyes wide. He looked out over the crowd, that strangely comforting feeling from before returning, and then looked back at Sokka.
Compelled by an urge he'd felt many times before but never acted on, he leaned forward, reaching for Sokka's face. Cradling his cheeks in both hands, he drew him in, their lips finally meeting. Sokka's lips twitched into a smile against his, tilting his head properly and meeting the kiss firmly. Zuko felt like his brain had melted, unable to process the thought that Sokka was kissing him back, had so long ago convinced himself it was hopeless. Tentatively, he darted his tongue out, licking at Sokka's lower lip in a question. Again, Sokka responded positively, allowing him to deepen the kiss.
Zuko leaned forward further, bending Sokka back towards the tiles of the roof, crowding over him possessively. Sokka laughed against him, winding his arms around Zuko's neck.
"A little pushy, are we?" He smirked.
Zuko swallowed, pulling back as far as Sokka's arms would allow. "I, uh… I think, maybe, those drinks were, um, stronger than we thought?" He rambled defensively.
"Oh, no. You don't get to blame this on the alcohol." Sokka tugged him down, drawing him into another kiss. "Besides, I got virgin drinks anyway. Completely alcohol-free. Like a good boy."
Zuko stared in shock, agape. "You didn't!"
"I did!"
"You let me believe they were alcoholic!"
Sokka shrugged. "You decided that, yourself. I just didn't contradict you."
Zuko groaned, burying his face in Sokka's collarbone. "Ugh, it's the same thing!" He felt Sokka's laugh, shoulders moving against him. "I hate you."
"Well, I love you." Sokka grinned, nudging Zuko's temple with his nose, urging the other to meet his gaze again. "Hey. I mean it. I really do."
Zuko swore his heart stopped. The air disappeared from his lungs. The churning of the chi in his gut stilled. He stared.
"I love you." Sokka repeated.
Zuko swallowed. He buried his face in Sokka's shoulder again, rubbing his forehead against his collarbone. He couldn't meet his eyes when he said it. "I love you. Also."
A hearty laugh bumped him off of Sokka's shoulder, and the tribesman held his face in both hands. "Get back to kissing me, you big dork." He ordered.
Zuko had never been so glad to follow an order in his life.

Author’s Note: The Marauders are on a Mary Jane run and bump into some familiar faces at the exchange spot. Since this is Muggle AU and I can do whatever I want. JKR just owns the characters. Remus and crew are between 28-29. Tonks and Charlie are 19-20. More of an 8-9 year difference. First time writing all of the Marauders, please be nice :) has not been beta’d. TW: cursing, drunk kissing
“How the fuck did you lock Remus’ keys in his car?” Sirius exclaims, running a hand through his black locks “Now how are we supposed to get back to get home?”
“We could call Lily?” the blonde boy pipes up.
Both sandy haired men and Sirius look to the young man with glasses, “we could try that. She’s probably up.”
“Of course she is. She is waiting for a call from her boyfriend.” Sirius mutters walking towards the house in front of them.
“Are you sure this is the place?” the shabby dressed man asks by his side “It looks like a frat house.”
“This address Doracas gave me.”Sirius replies, pulling tightly at his leather jacket. “Come on.”
“I am not going in there.” Remus retorts .”You, James and Peter can go. We are almost thirty years old. I am too old for this.”
“Lily won’t come unless you ask her too. She’ll just say we fucked up and will have to figure it out ourselves.” James ackwoldeges. “So you have to use their phone to call.”
Remus resigns knowing that is something Lily would say grumbling “fine”
“How do we find the exchange spot?” James asks, leading the group into the house.
“That is a good question” Sirius answers as they cross the threshold to see a sitting room with a makeshift dance floor with the furniture pushed back against the wall. In one corner is a table with an array of various foods strung out. In the other corner, they see various kegs and large bottles of differing booze. On the makeshift dance floor, there seems to be what looks like a square block with people dancing. One of the faces looks familiar.
Wearing ripped jeans, cropped black Led Zeppelin shirt with a patched jean jacket, she could have been anyone at this party. However, with her nose ring and her hair gave her away. That bubblegum pink hair.
Grabbing her hand, she jumps and trips off the block. Not looking up after spilling her drink “Fuck off, you tosser”
“That’s no way to speak to family, Nymph” Sirius answers as she looks up from her soiled top.
“Sirius” the strange looking girl exclaims, sloshing her drink onto the floor as she hugs him a little too hard. “Don’t call me that and what are you doing here?”
“Getting the grass” he response holding her drink up right “You looked intoxicated, cous”
“If you want to buy some, it’s out back.” Tonks answers “I had a couple hits earlier.”
“Great, intoxicated and high.” Remus mutters behind Sirius with his hands in his pockets as Tonks glares at him.
“Let me introduce you to my cousin, well second cousin” Sirius breaks the glare motioning to the female ,“This is my cousin, Nymphadora Tonks.”
“Merlins bread, how many times do I have to tell you, it’s Tonks” the female retorts drunkenly gulping down the last of her drink. Turning behind her, “Charlie, can you fill me up again?”
The red haired boy who was doing what looked like keg stands not even five seconds ago, smiles and fills up her cup with the interesting looking drink.
“I can see where the family resembles is” Remus mutters again as she basically downs the drink, holds her cup out for another.
“I’m gonna go with James and Peter to grab Mary Jane,” Sirius whispers to Remus. “Keep an eye on her will you. Dromeda will never forgive me if she knew I was here and did not stop this. Whatever is this.”
Remus sighs trying his best to not be upset with his friends for having to be babysitter. Seeing she was going for another drink, he grabs her arm and pulls her away from the keg. “Let’s go into another room”
“No, I’m not going with you” Tonks replies pulling her arm back from his grip “I just met you.”
Realizing what she must think, he comments “ I’m not going to hurt you. I just think you should sit down and take a break.”
She eyes him up and down. He was cute. If you were into the person who was shy, always in the library type, “maybe you're right.”
“Come on, let's go into another room.” Remus guides her into the study and into a chair. “Here I’ll go grab you some water”
Coming back from the kitchen, he hands her some water. Looking up at him, she drunkenly kisses him. At first he doesn’t pull away, he will admit when he first saw her, she was cute. However, he pulls away from the kiss. She was drunk and he was older than her. She was still in college. He was sober. She was drunk. This had all of the signs to end badly.
As soon as he pulls away, she opens her eyes, looks around and puts her face in her hands,“Oh, fuck. I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I found out my girlfriend cheated on me this week and I thought you were being nice to me too, you know.”
“I was being nice to you because you are as drunk as a skunk.” Remus reminds her smirking “Plus if I ever let anything happen to you, Sirius would kill me.”
“Oh” Tonks answers, not understanding why his answer upset her so much. It was the alcohol, she convinced herself.
“But I understand why you wanted to get drunk. Heartache is tough.” Remus continues.
“Moony, we got it. Price rose but we got it.” Sirius exclaims calling back through the hallway.
“In here.” Remus answers as he realizes Tonks has fallen asleep in the chair.
“This house has a cordless.”James smiles giddley as he hands the phone to Remus.
Dialing Lily, he walks to the back of the study. The response on the end sounded groggy “Lily, I’m sorry to bother you, James locked the keys in my car. Would you mind picking us up?”
The answers could be heard loudly from the other side of the phone. “ The address is 135 Divine Dr. Thanks, we owe you.”
Handing the phone back to James “She should be here in 20 minutes.”
“Moony, why is my cousin laying on the floor?” Sirius asks. It seemed while he was talking to Lily, Tonks had fallen to the floor.
“Oh shit.” Remus mutters helping Sirius pick her back up onto the couch. “Let’s just say she is having a bad night.”
“She’s gonna have a bad morning, if not a bad night in a few hours.” James chuckles pointing out her drink had spilled all of the floor.
“Oh shut it!” Remus counters, not sure why his voice rises. “She is heartbroken. Leave her alone.”
James holds his hands up in mock surrender “You don’t have to get so defensive.”
“I think she should come back with us. I can phone Andromeda in the morning to come pick her up.” Sirius suggests trying not to voice his concern. “I do not want to leave her here. Not that I do not think she can fend for herself. She is a Black. Her Mum is Black.”
“Want me to help you get her outside?” Remus asks unsure why he wanted to protect this girl he had only just met a half hour ago. Sirius nods as he puts her left arm around his shoulder as Remus does her right.
Once outside, Tonks opens her eyes and slurs “I knew you liked me.”
“Of course, I like you cous. You’re family” Sirius chuckles attempting to keep Tonks on her own two feet. He knew sober that was tough, drunk was an entirely different story.
“No, silly. Him” she counters trying to point towards Remus but pointing the opposite way. “He kissed me.”
“I do not remember it happening like that “ Remus disputes looking towards Sirius. “I distinctly remember you kissing me.”
“Wait what happened in the 15 minutes I was gone?” Sirius asks his face laced with confusion.
“She assumed that the reason I wanted to get her alone and out of the main room was because I wanted to…”
“I still am not convinced. You are trying to take me home” Tonks interrupts talking much more loudly that decimal of the discussion should have been.
Remus groaned putting his hands in his front pockets, “Sirius, please”
“Hey, I didn’t get into this situation.” Sirius chuckles as Remus rolls his eyes.
“I do not want to get into your pants. You are drunk. You are not in your right mind to even discuss this. “ Remus addresses Tonks as the pink haired girl trips into him.
“But what if I want to discuss this.” Tonks whispers into his ear. Remus’ ears begin to flush red as a van pulls up in front of the house.
“Lily” James exclaims as rolls down the window.
“You guys owe me” Lily exclaims back with a roll of her eyes. Rolling the back seat car door open, Remus guides Tonks over to get into the car before asking “will you hold my hair when I get sick tonight?”
Remus chuckles nodding his head. He had a feeling this would not be the last time he would interact with Nymphadora Tonks.
